She-ra (2018) Con-Exclusive Merch & Giveaways
I'm assembling a master post of all officially-produced merch for the SPOP reboot, but it's focused on information. I have a separate post focused on promotion-exclusive items, and this post is dedicated to detailed information for the ambiguous middle ground: con exclusives. Some of these were given away and some were for sale.
If I get additional information on any of these specific items, I'll edit the post to add it, but if I find anything new then it'll go in a reblog addition as I've hit the image limit on this post.
Sometimes you have to click photos to see full images, as many are cut off due to varying dimensions. Any [x]s will lead to the source of the images, usually secondhand listings that will eventually become defunct. I use the best photos I can find.
Pins/Buttons:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The buttons (first two images) were at NYCC in 2018. [1st] [2nd].
Han Cholo sells a lot of pins on their website, but the four on the right were exclusive at SDCC one year (concept photo in the final reblog here, this post chain in general has a ton of photos of She-ra merch from a mix of sources). [3rd]
Misc:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A foam tiara (2 photos) and a (seemingly foam and plastic) flat sword were at NYCC 2018 & 2019 and SDCC 2019. [2nd], [3rd]
There aren't any good photos and I'm at the image limit anyway, but there are pictures in the final reblog here of knee-high socks that were given out at promo events (possibly cons) and in reviewer/influencer promo packages. They're patterned after She-ra's uniform and have a cape on the back. Any details on this would be appreciated if you know them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Temporary tattoos (far left) and stickers (middle left) were at NYCC 2019 and maybe also Power-Con. Coloring sheets and hair ties were at either NYCC or Power-Con. The coloring sheet is watercolor with paint squares provided at the top of the sheet. I believe the hair ties came in three colors (purple, pink, and blue) and the long post* has good photos of the pink one. If you want to look at approximately ten pixels, this listing has all three colors. [1st] [2nd] [3rd]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bookmarks were available at SDCC one year and likely any other locations that had the books (Power-Con, etc). [x]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Collector card sets featuring 16 of the characters were given out at cons, possibly SDCC 2018. First image is the front of the packaging, second is one of the cards, and the third is the back of the package. [1st] [2nd] [3rd]
Posters:
Buckle up, this is the final, longest part. Posters were at many conventions and some designs may have been available at multiple cons. I mostly want to catalogue the designs here and will list a con just when I know it. Most listings online are of fan reprints unless otherwise specified.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first four (left to right) were available at SDCC 2019. The 4th & 5th are the front and back of the same poster, which was probably also distributed at places like Power-Con or wherever they sold the books (since it's a Scholastic poster). [4th] [5th]
Here are clean social media uploads of the 2nd and 3rd image. The 2nd was also the cover image for season 3 and the front of the DVD for seasons 1-3.
The character mini prints in the bottom right [6th] seem to have been given out at multiple cons. They were probably at SDCC (year unknown) and/or Power-Con (year unknown). The collector card designs roughly followed their design pattern.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All three of these were at SDCC WonderCon. The first was 2019 and the second was probably 2018. The 3rd was supposedly at 2023 but was (probably) 2018 unless they still just had a bunch of extras laying around. WonderCon also had a variant of the 4th poster from the SDCC section above, but I can't find good photos of it and there's going to be a third variant of it further down too, so at this point I think you get it.
The first design is the cover image for season 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first was probably at NYCC 2018. The right two were given out at a NYCC 2019 panel, as well as sent out with an exclusive statuette to family bloggers to promote season 4.
The first design is the cover art for season one. Its design was also used for a shopping bag at Anime Expo 2019 (photo in the final reblog here). The second one is the cover image for season 4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Distribution currently unknown (if there ever was one). The second image is the cover for season 5. I'll edit on the distributions if I happen to find them, but I'm fine with what I've got here. I could have missed one or two posters, but since their distributions mostly amounted to handing out flyers, they're hard to find.

Rainbow Furby Deepdive
Now that I've decided my website is a sea slug fansite (long story) I don't have anywhere to put my rainbow furby research. I considered putting it in a youtube video, but decided to post it to tumblr instead.
Anyway, here it is! The forbidden furby lore.
Tumblr media
On the 14th of June 2016 supersonicmario0770 made a post on the adoptafurby forums. The thread was titled "Rainbow Furby?" and included a link to an archived ebay listing.
Tumblr media
"I have never seen one of these before or where it came from. I can't find it when I look it up, no sign of it anywhere online but this ebay listing. It's pink with rainbow ears, hair, and chest."
At first most forum members thought it was a customized furby with dyed fur, although some thought it could be an unknown prototype. While the ebay listing is unarchived, we know roughly what it said.
On the 15th aibo7m3 posted this:
Tumblr media
"I would err on the side of caution and and say that it's probably a custom too, but the seller's story is that this furby was an employee gift given to some of the members at tiger electronics (including her husband)."
Two weeks later on July 6th furbyandchips made a forum post, providing pictures of their own rainbow furby.
Tumblr media
"My friend bought me the other rainbow furby the seller on ebay was selling. Identical to this one. I do not believe it to be fake or custom made. I have inspected it closely and the bottom of the box was open, so the inside cardboard can be removed, but the furby is still attached to the cardboard and didn't look tampered with. All tags are present and in mint condition. Everything is as it should be and looks like it was made in a factory and not customized by someone. The seller told my friend the same story which I believe to be true going by the fact the other furby she bought with it was only furby number 4 of that release, which makes me think it could of been someone who worked for tiger to have such a early one. This furby is in a regular box but if you look at some of the other special editions they too were in regular boxes."
Three years later, on the 19th of January 2019 furbyandchips provided an update on their website heyfurby.com.
"Hello Furby Fans! To start off our new blog, I thought I would write about a very interesting Furby in our collection. I do not know her Furby name as I have never switched her on, she is still attached to the cardboard base from the factory. We decided to name her May May, which means Love ;-)
A good friend found May May on Ebay America and I have never seen another furby like her. A while ago I posted about May May on a furby forum to try and find out some information about her, but no one there had ever seen or heard of this furby. I'm not sure which generation she is, if she is a prototype, limited edition or something very special. She has all tags present and looks to be an Official Furby Release.
Looking at the photo you will see she has rainbow eyelashes and a purple face plate, unlike any other furby. She also has rainbow pattern ears, mane and belly.
Her colours are amazing and I wonder if there are any more around like her. We will always treasure May May and hope to eventually find out more information about her. Stay tuned!"
furbyandchips quickly provided an update on the 21st. In this post, furbyandchips described searching the wayback machine for furby.com articles, finding what they were looking for on a page titled 'news updates'.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the 9th of November 1999 until the 1st of August 2000 a competition to design a furby took place on the back of Post brand cereals. Children 17 and under were asked to color in their own furby design, and send their entry in the mail by the 1st of August 2000. Twelve designs at random would then be selected and posted on furby.com where a winner could be voted by the public.
Tumblr media
The winner was Brittany from Missouri, who won a trip to the furby design studio in Illinois, as well as recieving their own furby. However, furbyandchips was still left with some unanswered questions.
"So it turns out that this is in fact an official Furby-Tiger Release! (some doubted this on AdoptaFurby Forum). I wonder if 'Brittany from Missouri' still has her Rainbow Furby? Also were any of the other 12 entries created?
As far as I know, there are only two Rainbow Furby's in existence. The one that I own, and the other one the original seller (maybe) still has? After some more detective work, I found out the other rainbow Furby had a highest bid of $525.00 before the seller chose to end the auction early! I can only guess they had a change of heart and wanted to keep it."
Eight months later, on the 11th of august 2019 an update was posted on the private facebook group Furby Collectors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Hi guys! I'm brand new to this group, and while I'm not a “collector” per-se, i am very proud of this furry rainbow dude right here. He's one of three in existence, made in 2000 when i was just 10 years old. i just so happened to be the lucky winner of a coloring “design your own Furby” contest hosted by Post cereals back in the day. i was flown to Rhode Island with my family and allowed to tour the Hasbro factory, meeting the artists, getting sneak peaks into prototype toys to come, and got to meet the CEO himself! He presented to me, in a formal greeting ceremony, with three of the Furbies I'd designed as a little girl. One to play with (kept outside of the box), one to keep sealed, and one they put into their archives. i felt ike a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Truly a dream come true for a kid. Sadly, when i was 16 years old, 13 years ago now, my boxed Furby was stolen from me and sold by my late older brother who had been battling an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking addiction. I've come to terms with it over the years, but have always wondered what happened to the rainbow siblings of this furry cutie. I'd seen images posted online of an Ebay listing with one of the sibling Furbies before but have not discovered much more about their fates. thought I'd reach out here and give a bit of backdrop to this weird story in hopes i may learn something! Here I've included a goofy photo of my multicolored friend from recently and a clipping of the arcticle written from when i was an excited 10 year old girl!"
This still leaves some questions. If the other furby furbyandchips's friend bought was number four, then why would the facebook poster believe there to be only three in existance, why would furbyandchip's believe only two to exist, and why would the original ebay seller say their husband recieved two as an employee gift?
We can most likely rule out the brother making both ebay listings, since he only had access to one furby. Could there be more rainbow furbies that we don't know of?
If you have any more information on this furby, please get in touch! I tracked down the news article the original creator was mentioned in, but I needed a newspaper.com subscription to view it so I wasn't able to get further information from that. I also wasn't able to check the facebook group for further updates as I don't use facebook. If anyone has pictures of the back of the rainbow furby and can share them, that would be appreciated!
Here's some more images:

if you ever feel up to it, i'd love to hear how you got the mew. hearing stories about people and their pokemon is really fun.
SOMEONE TOOK THE BAIT LET'S GOOO i wanted to talk about thisSDFFDKS
anyway i got my hadou mew through basically a miracle encounter - back in 2020 i was buying a lot of older pokemon games to fill holes in my collection, either games i never owned or games that i lost over the years from childhood, and as for my missing gen 3 games, i ended up going for japanese copies of firered and sapphire instead of english because having foreign carts is neat but mostly they're just a lot cheaper. buying secondhand pokemon games is always fun because often times the seller doesn't wipe or even check the save file and especially if the save file has a lot of playtime, they're like time capsules from a stranger right. so both games come in and the sapphire has nothing interesting but i'm perusing the boxes of this firered and uhhh
Tumblr media
LMAO my initial reaction says it all, i literally just found this thing on a completely random firered cart i bought! it was not advertised to have mew in it on the ebay listing, in fact the seller i bought from sells a LOT of imported japanese pokemon games (and other gba titles) so i imagine he just has a pile of these and he picked out a random one to mail me without so much as checking what was on it.
of course mythical pokemon on gen 3 carts are dubious, it's not like it's particularly hard to gameshark a mythical pokemon, especially considering that i've gotten a secondhand file before with shit like a box full of Deoxys caught at level 2 on the first route in hoenn LOL... so i was pretty serious about checking for legality on this thing as best i could - backed up the save file and inspected it in pkhex, all data was 100% accurate to the event and also reasonable RNG wise, like normal random IVs and stuff... checked for archived versions of this event mew, none of them were identical to online injectable ones, which means the owner couldn't have downloaded and injected it... and most of all, context clues
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's ancient pictures of this mew traded to my english leafgreen so it's readable for everyone - i had not done anything with this mew yet so it's completely untouched from how i found it here. we can tell from looking at this that whoever owned this mew was training it with the exp share as its still holding it and is level 23 despite being met at level 10, and the moveset... solarbeam, mega punch, dragon claw?? very random moveset that i can only imagine a child using. this mew looks like it was played with by its owner legitimately. additionally not shown here, the firered cart had a lot of playtime and like 2/3 of the dex complete, the boxes were full of pokemon that the owner had been breeding and a few unhatched eggs, like i hatched one and it was a completely normal eevee so they may have been getting extra eevees for pokedex purposes etc.
basically i cannot 100% confirm this mew was obtained legitimately without teleporting back in time and getting that japanese movie preorder bonus myself, but there is literally nothing strange about this mew and the save file it comes from is well loved and appeared to be played by a child doing normal pokemon stuff. so for all intents and purposes, this mew is definitely legit to me. actually insane happenstance. i have never gotten anything this crazy from a secondhand file before
think of it this way. some japanese kid in 2005 preorders a pokemon movie > he goes to the store to redeem it for a mew in person. in 2005. in japan. > he plays with the mew a bit > at some point he stops playing pokemon > he sells the game to some random american seller after never wiping the save or removing the mew > the american seller buys jp pokemon games in bulk to resell on ebay so he has a ton of them and probably doesn't check them for what's on them or the old save files > when i order it from this random ebay listing, the american seller picks a random fire red cartridge out of his bulk stash and mails it to me > it ends up in my hands 15 years later after the kid first got this mew
like holy shit it's a small fucking world huh
another old convo from the RM discord because i'm nostalgic about it, i had just started talking here at the time... i'm gonna be honest the ribbon master challenge and the people i met through it genuinely changed my life and this mew came into my life at the perfect time so it means a lot to me on top of being insanely cool
Tumblr media
anyways i went on about that longer than necessary but yeah bless my mew i love him

Let's Read Peanuts (Yes, all of it) - February 1953
There are lots of great strips I just don't have room to comment on. I strongly encourage everybody to read the full month at the official GoComics page. Today's month starts HERE.
Feb 5, 1953
Tumblr media
Today: “Last night on the internet I read an AI-generated Sonic The Hedgehog erotic fanfic with ten million views”
Feb 6, 1953
Tumblr media
I know that those are supposed to be weird thought balloons but it looks like Snoopy just talks now.
Feb 11, 1953
Tumblr media
Bah, what's this nonsense? Schroeder never complained!
Tumblr media
Feb 14, 1953
Tumblr media
First Valentine comic? Maybe?? I really should have made a list of things to look out for when I started. -_-'
Feb 17, 1953
Tumblr media
OK, so apparently “Ivanhoe” was a novel written in 1819 by Walter Scott. It's been adapted several times in various formats including an early 1940's comic book and a 1952 live action film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Film trailer here.
I'd link to the comic but ~for some reason~ nobody bothered to scan and upload a 80+ year old comic nobody's ever hear of onto the internet. Rude!
Feb 21, 1953
Tumblr media
Paperboy comics continue to be good.
Feb 27, 1953
Tumblr media
Time is a flat circle.
Thoughts:
Apparently the only way to read that Ivanhoe comic (that I've been able to find) is to buy a physical copy off of eBay somewhere and consume it the old-fashioned way. Which is kind of a shame, right? I mean, would it have been especially good or noteworthy? Probably not, but reading a few issues would have been a fun way to get a peek into Schulz's mind and get a feel for the comics he was influenced by.
This kind of thing actually bothers me quite a bit and it's a topic that's been on my mind a lot lately. Think about it like this. Ctrl+Alt+Del is not a particularly good webcomic, but think about how many loss.jpg references have been made in various forms of media over the last couple decades that would simply stop making sense if the original comic were to become inaccessible.
Tumblr media
All media is connected. Artists are constantly drawing inspiration from and commenting on works that came before and understanding these influences is a key part of decoding any given work. This is true not only for popular media that everybody agrees is good but also for the absolute garbage that may have been your favorite creator's guilty pleasure. It ALL matters, and it should ALL be available for anybody who's interested. Which is why it makes me irrationally angry when I'm reminded that access to older media can be such a huge crapshoot.
Anyways, I guess my call to action is to... upload more old comics? Sure let's go with that. Maybe support some of the groups archiving old stuff while you're at it. Art is cool, and we should be doing more to let people actually see it.

It was awhile ago that you mentioned the whole grading thing, but I finally got the courage to talk about it a bit XD The way I see it is this: 1. It kind of gives you an idea of what shape the comic is in. In this way, you can have an idea of how long it will last, if pages are messed up, etc. 2. You can have an idea if something is overpriced or not based on that, at least some idea. As far as putting them in cases, I personally see it as a way to protect a piece of history you find it important. That's also how my boyfriend sees it (which the little I know about it at all is from him). Beyond that, I'm not really into it nor do I care much. I don't personally do grading, not as of now anyway, but I personally see that as its use. But like anything, it can get, weird and people can try to scam with it. Sorry this is super late XD Feel free not to respond XD
Interesting perspective on it. More power to you/your partner if it's something you appreciate, value is subjective after all. :)
It's just my personal feelings on it. Not judging anyone else for their collection habits, unless their one of the scammers/grifters/scalpers that have glommed onto the collection scene in recent years! XD
(Full disclosure my main exposure to the grading industry, is the absurdly overpriced eBay and other online store listings that pop up every time I try to find comics, as I have no local comic book store (the closest is like a four hour round drive to get to), so I have to get them online; and the infamous comic and Pokémon card grading scams of recent years.)
Protection I get, especially for older titles that were printed on poorer quality paper.
From my perspective as a toy collector it's the same reason I don't really get the appeal of keeping figures unopened in box... What's the point of having it if you can't play with it/ read it etc? (It's why I have no interest in original G1 transformers etc. as I don't want to risk breaking them.) Again it's just personal preference ultimately. I just get more out of a thing if I can interact with it than just look at it!
Maybe it's because I work a lot in collections outreach for museums, (not quite the same thing as that's much more about public engagement than personal interests), but people don't engage with history if it's just locked away in an archive where no one can see it! You get more interest if you let someone see or even hold a stone age axe (either real or a replica), than if you just show them a picture of it!

Yet Another JP Art Book Haul
Yes, I've got quite a bit again. But hey, these purchases have been spread out across a month-ish and weren't that expensive (all things considered). So I'll break it down.
Return To Avalon Fate Art Works
Tumblr media
Originally, I wasn't planning on buying this art book. It was an additional piece of another auction I was bidding on for all the Heaven's Feel production materials, but the auction ended up skyrocketing to around 400 dollars which I really wasn't looking to cough up for some art books. Instead, after the auction ended I found this art book by itself for around $25 which is a pretty decent steal when you consider it's a whopping 12 inches high and 8.6 inches wide.
It's just full of full color artwork and illustrations from all over the place, and it has a full timeline of the art works featured in the book at the end. It's a super cool look at the history of Fate (and Type-Moon) that I'd definitely recommend to fans of the series. Just don't get suckered into the eBay listings that can cost well over double and even into triple of that $25 price tag.
(Side Note: The art book is available in English, though at the very steep price tag of about 73CAD)
Tumblr media
Heaven's Feel: Presage Flower and Lost Butterfly Key Animations
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let me just say, Spring Song Key Animations is a pain to get. Nobody sells it, and those that do charge an arm and a leg. Despite that I'd still love to own it one day (alongside all the materials for Heaven's Feel). Regardless of wants and desires though, these books are pretty, very pretty. Getting to see under the hood of Ufotable's stunning work is just amazing. Also, a quick side note (and one I really should have taken pictures of), all the pages have an outline in the color of their cover so the edges of the pages appear the same as the cover. Also, the covers get lighter with each volume. They're very well thought out and beautiful books.
(Image borrowed from this incredible blog-meets-archive site for art books)
Tumblr media
Record of Lodoss War Anime Guide & Art Books
Tumblr media
It's still crazy to me just how old these books are. The OVA for Lodoss came out in 1990. Now I don't think I'm that young, but it came out before I was born. And here I have these books that look like they haven't aged a day, it's crazy.
Now truthfully, there's not a huge amount of real art to these books. They're very much guide books before they're art books, but what it does include in terms of explicit art is incredibly interesting and appealing.
Tumblr media
Dagashi Kashi Key Animation
Tumblr media
I am a big Kotoyama fan, I love both of their works and really hope that the Dagashi Kashi manga can make it here. So of course I'd jump on a Dagashi Kashi art book. It was interesting though, it's incredibly difficult to find listings for this art book anywhere on the internet. Just one of those items that hardly seems to exist, but it wasn't even that expensive. I was at the mercy of a single seller, but I got this for around $55 which isn't the end of the world.
It really is cool though, it reignites hope in me for LidenFilms to drop an art book for Call of The Night. But until then I'll happily enjoy my Dagashi Kashi art book. (Also, cool enough they include both the OP and ED in this art book, and it reads left to right. Weird, right?)
Tumblr media
Now for the big guns
Bakemonogatari Production Note & Key Animation Note Vol. 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a bit of a shock, to say the least. The Bakemonogatari Key Animation Notes typically go for around $100, so getting it and the Production Note for half of that was wild. Of course, I'm fighting an uphill battle with the latter volumes of the Key Animation Note almost exclusively going for that $100+ price tag.
Anyways, really impressive work as expected, and one of my favorite approaches for a Key Animation collection as it adds a small screenshot of the finished product at the bottom corner of each page. Also, the sheer volume of these production notes is wild. There's 3 whole books in the first one with over 1100 pages total. Crazy stuff.
(First image is Production Note, Second is Key Animation)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Garden of Sinners Storyboard Collection
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a big find. I'm a massive sucker for storyboard collections (have even more bought/ordered), so finding the 7 volume run for Garden of Sinners is awesome. For first time buyers though, it might seem a little odd. The books are oddly small. Like a regular JP manga volume kind of small, in contrast to the massive scale of various art books.
Regardless of size though, these things are really amazing to see the differences between the staff of each movie. How they approach the essence of storyboards and how direction is reflected in it, and plenty of other things. It's just so incredibly fascinating to me.

Yepyep I saw the list of things, that's the reason I asked. I meant it more in the sense of 'do you have any idea where/how to find the ones still missing' but I should have phrased it more clearly
Anyway, like I was saying, I think I might have a couple of the ones on the list? Not 100% sure though, and afaik all the ones I have are from DNA (please forgive Muchlax in the corner, I had to throw a bunch of stuff out of the way and only had so much space) They're pretty much all manga but I did manage to score the petit book for a really good price on ebay some time ago
Tumblr media
OH WOW, NICE!!! There aren't scans of any of these books online, as far as I know, and definitely not in the archive Volcanic manages over on the lore Discord. That Petit art book is an especially good find, congrats on that!! I've never seen that one for sale anywhere before.
I've been scoping out eBay, Yahoo Auctions JP, and Mercari JP for the books, in that order since eBay is usually the cheapest (don't need a proxy service) but Yahoo JP seems to have the best selection. Mercari JP usually has more of the popup shop stuff and merchandise instead of the actual books but sometimes books show up on there.
Suruga has some REALLY rare stuff, that's where I got the Dengeki PlaySstation mag, but it's entirely in Japanese and requires a proxy service to buy from outside of Japan. Here's a link to a modified search just for the books category for Guilty Gear: [clicky] (品切れ = out of stock)
Idk how much Japanese you know, but here are the full English titles for your books: Top row (Left to right):
Guilty Gear Petit 1 & 2 Official Fan Book
Guilty Gear X Comic Anthology (DNA Media Comics)
Guilty Gear X Plus Yonkoma Kings
Munchlax <3
Bottom row (L->R):
Guilty Gear X Yonkoma Kings
Guilty Gear XX ♯Reload Comic Anthology (DNA Media Comics)
Guilty Gear XX Comic Anthology (DNA Media Comics)
Guilty Gear XX Comic Anthology, volume 2
I had no idea the XX Comic Anthology had two volumes!! That's good to know. Adding a note to the guide post for that.
A few people on here in the tags on some of the manga posts I've made have mentioned owning some of the other manga volumes too, though I don't know how many people will be able to scan theirs. There was a guy on Reddit a while ago that had a full collection of all of the GG manga but didn't know how to scan them and idk if they ever will so I'm not holding my breath over it haha

so how exactly did you get these postcards? it's incredible the archive you have access to!
I bought them! Mostly from eBay and delcampe.net but sometimes from other places, too.
Some have been over $100 but most were $50 or less, some waaaaay less, just a couple of dollars. I'd say $25 is probably a decent average. Sometimes you get lucky on eBay and a seller doesn't know what they have, or they list it poorly so you get something great for pretty cheap (other times there's a bidding war and you're like 'yeah I'm not paying that much' and you bow out). One of my first major purchases was a set of 9 unused cards that was listed as 'Russian imperial princes and princesses' and it was actually OTMAA stuff: Two 1914 Anastasia, a 1914 Tatiana, a 1914 Maria, an Olga in court dress 1911, a Tatiana in court dress 1913, and two Alexeis. And then the ninth card? Just some random kids, not OTMAA or even royalty at all as far as I can tell.
Anyway, I got all those cards for $56!! Which is AMAZING because any one of those cards could have easily sold for that, and I got 8 of them!
You can see the 'epic eBay win' HERE.
So the moral of the story is be creative with your searches! I think being a librarian helps me here, because I understand how to construct search strings, and how to guess how people might have listed things wrong (for example 'princess' instead of 'grand duchess').

I don't want to complain about something relating to Christmas but I thought this was baffling enough to share. So I asked for Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles for Christmas, I found some on eBay but I can't say I've seen one out in the wild, it's not exactly the most common game. Anyway, all the eBay listings said "good" and whatnot but that could mean anything so there was one that said "Like New." and ho boy, was that an exaggeration. This is how it came:
Tumblr media
It came in a paper mailer, disc taped to a paper receipt. You can tell this person has no concept of gaming or taking care of your discs. Even had the gall to put on the page "Please write a review." Oh you better believe. I'm fine with it out of the case and everything but normally when that happens, they'll put it in an unlabelled stock case or maybe a plastic sleeve and at least put it in a semi contained bubble mailer to keep it protected but this person did the bare minimum asked of them on the assignment. The disc looked beat to crap and back, I gave it a good wipe down before even thinking about testing it. All things considered, it should've been cracked, if not from the cold weather it had to endure then from the shipping itself.
I wouldn't have been surprised if it didn't work but lo and behold, it did, I guess that's what matters. In fact, it acts like it's never been used, no save files, nothing unlocked (there are archives and stuff) so this person somehow stumbled upon this uncommon game, didn't play it but took it out and lost the case, probably left it lying somewhere and then put it on eBay to which they thought "Yeah, this is 'LIKE NEW'." to later tape to a piece of paper and send. I can just barely fathom the thought process of what this thing has went through.

Tech Patterns, circa '98
(heads-up: this is long. I fell down a rabbit hole.)
Found a really cool vintage pattern while poking around Ebay (I’m ~1100 patterns in, it’s for a project, give me another month or two) and found this absolute banger of a pattern:
Tumblr media
Earth Rise by LORRAC designs, circa 1998. It says it’s part of their ‘Science & Technology Series’, and as soon as I saw it I knew I’d give my left and right thumbs to get to see what the rest of those look like-- we talking astronomy? Chemistry? CRT monitors and the shiny newfangled Windows 98?
A quick google brings up old listings or photos for three more astronomy patterns from the series (The Solar System, Moons of Saturn, and Jupiter), plus a single bit of technology: Anita at Cyberstitchers.com posted a photo of one of her finished LORRAC patterns back in 2004, and check it out! It slaps, too!
Tumblr media
It is so good! I’ve never seen a cross stitch pattern like it! I’ve been sorting through Santas and floral borders and Precious Moments Angels this whole project and this smashed computer feels life-changing. (of course, it’s also uh... probably 1am this is going down? once it hits 2:00 the tumblr ads will start looking pretty profound, too)
Googling doesn’t bring up any central collections, and the only contact info on Earth Rise is a residential address in Louisiana (not even an artist’s name!). Doesn’t help that most of the photos are pretty bad-- heck, the computer one’s almost old enough to vote-- but the pic for Moons of Saturn is legible, and it’s got something new at the bottom: a website address.
http://www.neosoft.com/~cac/ doesn’t go much of anywhere anymore, but pop it in the Wayback machine, and---
Tumblr media
We are golden!! And they even archived the gif of a cute little dog!
From this archive snapshot I’m able to slide forward all the way up to 2003 and their second website, lorracdesigns.com-- still only exists in the archive, and not all the images work, but the ones they have are magnificent.
And there are a LOT of technology ones.
Guys gals and pals, feast your eyes on Office Beanies:
Tumblr media
You Have MAIL!!
Tumblr media
WWW Logo (”Show the world that you are a Web Surfer with this WWW logo. Finish it as a magnet or pin and display it proudly.” heck yeah I would! I am a web surfer!)
Tumblr media
Computer Kid
Tumblr media
Evil Computer
Tumblr media
and my absolute favorite, Please Logoff:
Tumblr media
…and this last one’s a freebie, too! The PDF download is long gone, but the list of floss colors is still up. Between this image and the list I should be able to reconstruct the pattern... so wish me luck! 🤞
Only one mystery remains, then... who was the artist behind LORRAC? I can’t find a name anywhere, not on the whole site. I wonder who they were, what they were like-- they made some really funny and unique patterns, and beautiful ones, too. The pattern themes make me think that the artist was a young adult then, twenty years ago, so odds are that they’re still out there stitching somewhere. I wish I could tell them how much I like their old art. But hey, that’s the internet for you. 🥂
Anyway if you’d like to check out some really unique patterns and also feel nostalgic for the ancient internet, the LORRAC site archive is here. While exploring I also found a fully-intact Angelfire page listing dozens of other cross-stitch sites from the same era-- some may still be up, others might be archived, either way: if you need a rabbit hole, check them out! :)

Since Unus Annus is ending today, I’ll just give a list of my favourites videos and a short explanation on why:
Cooking with sex toys: Started so serious with the first video and this just threw a curve ball at us, I love it. Also hilarious.
Purging our sins with a Neti Pot: “Mom no”
Baby hands operation: Waterboarding a fucking table top game and the butterfly flying off the body because Ethan hit it. Hilarious.
2 truths 1 lie- waxing edition: “How do you feel about Korea?”
Helium therapy: Abigail.
Drawing memes from memory: Ethan tried but only made for excellent comedic drawings.
An AI predicts how we’re going to die:  It was really funny. Don’t know what else to tell you.
Mark and Ethan attempt an escape room: It was just these two trying to be as logical as possible and being idiots at the same time.
Ethan gives Mark a Viking funeral: I still perfectly remember Mark sliding down the stairs at tremendous speed and getting stuck in the cardboard coffin.
The great meat mistake: Ethan struggles to speak.
We made nude paintings of each other: Any frame looked like was straight up p0rn.
Ethan’s relaxing and totally normal nail salon: Mark has an existential crisis.
Hiding our sins from Amy’s holy peepers: “agh my wound” and “this is for a bit but how long is this gonna stay there”.
Who can make themselves taller: Mark has an existential crisis: I could’ve been an engineer edition.
We took an IQ test: I…how do you get a 3?
Mark and Ethan go casket shopping: just two pals shopping for a coffin that best suit them.
We take a lie detector to uncover our darkest sins: it was just fun to see the spikes.
Learning to breath underwater: Grade A material for memes.
2 absolute beginners experience the dancing glory that is salsa: super fun, another great grade A meme material.
Mark and Ethan learn about the human body: genitalia.
DIY cheese: it’s the dance of Italy OooOoH
Looking at long lost memes: it was just the two of them looking at memes.
Literally eating fire: ‘twas interesting! Also the face.
Nutball: the most dangerous game: Fun, don’t do it tho.
Our perfect (and last) valentine’s day: BENJAMIN KETCHUP and tiny will smith.
Being attacked by a fully trained body guard dog: I couldn’t understand the man because of the heavy russian accent but still loved the video.
The ultimate trolley problem: Just really fucking fun, really made me laugh.
Real ghost hunting at an abandoned zoo: kinda scary, but Mark and Ethan were great comedic relief.
DIY chiropractor: *stabs a soda can* *chugs the whole thing from the incision* *in an accent* “You ready?”
What does astrology say about our friendship: *thrusts* “sorry”
Amazon shopping for the apocalypse: it was just them buying supplies and it was fun to watch.
Ultimate youtuber boxing showdown: It was really funny how they imagined their dramatic entrances to the boxing ring.
We made every youtuber battle in the hunger games: Beware of Zoella.
The creepiest videos on youtube: I just like scary stuff and two idiots bringing comfort with their presence.
What the hell is a pink trombone?: This is not a fleshlight.
We played strip poker: Beginner’s luck  is amazing.
Mark cooks blindfolded while Ethan guides him through facetime: This is just Ethan getting stressed out while Mark did whatever he wanted.
Reacting to your hilarious green screen memes: y’all are amazing.
Mark teaches Ethan to read with hooked on phonics: E E F
Mark and Ethan become United States citizens: it’s just them roasting the us government.
Finding the most cursed image on the internet: it’s them either laughing our cringing.
Creating Mark FISHbach: Ethan likes to swim and is a graceful merman, Mark not so much.
Dummy THICC for dummies – a tale of two butts – Pushing our butts even further beyond: “Oh what’s that? A tier 3 sub?”
Dunking oreos I literally anything but milk: Soy sauce is always higher than what you’d think.
Preparing a 5-star meal for our youtube famous dogs: it’s adorable, also you can smell chaos in that video.
Mark teaches Ethan how to play the trumpet: Ethan struggles and makes Mark upset.
Momiplier teaches self-defense: she’s SO funny.
Mark’s outdoor escape room: AVADA KEDABRA
Mark teaches Ethan how to march in a marching band: His form was like an S, literally.
2 adults take a 4th grade math class: Ethan’s reaction to “welcome to math class” hit deep.
We accidentally made an SCP while Amy was away: “I FORGOT ABOUT THE DEMONS INSIDE”
Learning to use the force: think thiiink THIIIIINK
This is for fun and not a fetish: this was my birthday video J
Mark conquers his fear of night swimming: THE GONGOOZLER
We bought every Grinch costume on Ebay: It was great.
Pressure washing our sins away: Ethan was really excited about the pressure washer and I liked it because I get really excited about vacuums so it felt relatable for me.
The Unus Annus Annual Costume Contest: You know.
Ethan kidnapped Mark: Ethan doesn’t remember his own puzzles but Marks plays along anyway because he doesn’t want him to feel bad.
The Unus Annus last supper: Amy popped off with the foods.
Being brutally honest with eachother: made me cry, but from inspiration and a pinch of sadness.
Recreating every single Unus Annus video: “Siri, call us daddy” “I don’t see a father in your contacts”
All our video ideas that never happened: really fun to imagine the videos, and lowkey would’ve loved to see the Youtuber Graduation that Ethan thought of for the youtubers that never went or finished college. And Fuckmachine Thanksgiving
Everything’s legal If you’re dead: Mark’s lawyer struggles because Mark is trying to commit fraud and in the meantime Ethan makes breakfast with a fuckmachine .
I loved all the videos but this are just my personal favourites. As of posting this, in 44 minutes the last video will be up. And it’ll all end.
I won’t be able to re watch the magic but I can still remember. Thank you everyone, and of course, please don’t harass anyone that posts anything related to Unus Annus once the channel is deleted. Mark and Ethan expressed that they don’t want archive channels but it’s still their desition. I’m sure that those who made channel explicitly mmaking edits or those that made blogs centered in Unus Annus are those who have commited to the idea of the channel.
Let people make edits, memes and art, don’t be mean.
Memento Mori.
Unus Annus.

Part 4 - I’ve Been Duped...
It was to be expected that some of those who brought us some of the less essential Fall releases would also respond to Smith's death. One of worst was the first to arrive and it came from perennial recyclers Secret Records; a repackaging of 10 live tracks from the 2002 “A Touch Sensitive” DVD – already reconfigured multiple times – on an LP titled, and this absolutely beggars belief, “Best Of” and credited to “The Fall & Mark E Smith”, a credit never once used on a release in Smith's lifetime (a few gig posters, yes but never a record). Released just 3 months after Smith's death for about £18-20, this received the derision it deserved and, judging from the number of copies for sale on Discogs and their current asking prices, it appears to have sold just a little more than fuck all.
But even this was overshadowed come March 2019 when Ozit/Dandelion released what has to be The Worst Fall Release Ever. Pressed into horrid orange vinyl, the contents of “Mark's Personal Holiday Tony Tapes” were staggeringly poor. Proudly labelled as “Non-Record-Store-Day Release” (was it turned down?) the record boasted just 8 tracks. The album tried to elide its rotten contents by calling all the tracks “Mark's Personal Holiday Tony Tapes”. Track 1 was a 6 minute version of “Last Nacht” from “I Am Kurious Oranj”. The released track doesn't actually feature within the 6 minutes so this is probably an outtake and therefore probably not owned by Beggars Banquet. There is a drop out lasting several seconds that has gone uncorrected and it's about 4 minutes longer than it needs to be, confirming the brevity of the version used in 1988 to be bob on. Tracks 2, 4, 6 and 8 are live tracks from 1981, all of which had already been released on the otherwise unimpressive “Northern Cream” DVD. What is barely credible is that tracks 3, 5 and 7 are also “Last Nacht” but not further alternates, rather being Track 1 cut into 2 minute pieces and simply repeated! Did they think we wouldn't notice?! Utterly awful, thoroughly exploitative and an absolute disgrace. They also stumped up a 30 minute DVD of MES being interviewed. This bore the thoroughly unappealing title “30 Minutes On A Manchester Slag Heap”. I only ever saw this for sale on eBay but a couple of clicks confirmed that it was Ozit/Dandelion product being sold by them through that channel. The cover was of a slag heap rather than of MES. Enough said.
OK, let's tidy up, what's next?
The immediate future sees 2 vinyl releases in the August “drop” of the now-staggered, socially-distanced RSD2020; a double LP of “[Austurbæjarbíó] - Reykjavík Live 1983” on the now inevitable splatter vinyl and a single LP of  “Cerebral Caustic” on multi-coloured “bonkers” (their word, absofuckinglutely not mine) splatter vinyl because of course it is. That's all for RSD this year, a move which represents far better judgement by the organisers. A studio album out of print on vinyl for 25 years and a properly sought after live release on the format for the first time? Yeah, that fits well with what RSD was meant to be back when we all queued up for a “Bury Pts 2 + 4” 7” in 2010.
Now, a fun wee question mark was raised over “CC” when the RSD website credited the release to Demon rather than Cherry Red. It appears Demon have the Permanent Records catalogue and have also announced clear vinyl reissues of “The Infotainment Scan”, “Middle Class Revolt”, “The Twenty-Seven Points” and, perhaps most interestingly, “The Post Nearly Man”, all on clear vinyl with expanded artwork from Pascal LeGras. It looks as though these are coming in under the £20 mark (£25 for T27P) and I reckon they'll be popular – I fancy nabbing MCR and TPNM myself. A bit of a downer that all of these, except, oddly, “The Post Nearly Man” were recently rescheduled from September 2020 to January 2021 but hey ho – probably Covid-related, much like everything else.
As for Cherry Red, whilst one report had it that “Are You Are Missing Winner” was next, they are finally releasing a 3CD/2LP edition of “Imperial Wax Solvent” in October. This includes the much-discussed original mix by Grant Showbiz and a previously unavailable live set from shortly after the album's original release. This is, basically, exactly what we wanted. Hurrah! Can't wait.
Thanks to the speculation re: AYAMW, there was a little disappointment in come quarters and I can certainly see a healthy audience for a straight single LP pressing of that as it was only ever available on a picture disc vinyl before. Here's hoping they won't go for a double splatter vinyl with unnecessary extras (“Where's The Fuckin' Taxi? Cunt” on vinyl? Come on, SPARE US).
To yr present authors surprise, an expanded edition of “The Frenz Experiment” was announced for release by Beggars Banquet/Arkive in October. I had reckoned a new vinyl edition was likely as it was the only studio album on BB not yet afforded a new pressing and the addition of a second LP with various singles tracks was no surprise either, given that there are similar packages available for “TWAFW”, “TNSG” and “Bend Sinister”. A very pleasant surprise however is the inclusion of the group's Janice Long session from 1987, their only unreleased Radio 1 session. Also, “A Day In The Life” has been licenced for the this also (it was the only studio recording from the era missing from “5 Albums”). The Long session and “...Life” are only on the CD version. As such, this release very much follows the pattern of the “Bend Sinister” reissue from 2018 and is likely inspired by the near ecstatic reception and healthy sales that release enjoyed. Nice that the CD edition is £12 this time, having been more like £22 for “Bend Sinister”.
Let Them Eat Vinyl are responsible for the illustration...they are planning an almost ludicrous onslaught of Fall vinyl. Their website currently lists an almost unbelievable THIRTY ONE Fall LP releases for the three months running September to November. Thirty-one. Now – this includes “Interim” which is already on the shelves but it also includes the “Live From The Vaults” releases. It was assumed from the inclusion of two of these on Cherry Red's “Dragnet” 3CD box that these were part of the Fall Sound Archive deal that MES cut with CR in the years before his death which makes this a bit interesting. Also, LTEV are also claiming they will release “The Post-Nearly Man” on vinyl in October, which clashes with Demon's schedule – they originally had Smith and The Fall's albums for Permanent Records releases slated for reissue in September but all except TPNM have been moved. Meanwhile, “Cog Sinister” are about to release TPNM on CD! After being unavailable and highly prized for 2 decades, we're now set for 3 separate reissues within 2 months!  Anyway, the vast majority of the remaining LTEV are discs from the 2 “sets of ten (really eleven)” although also included are the excellent “I Am Pure As Oranj” and the first vinyl edition of “The Light User Syndrome” since its original release in 1996. Caveat Emptor, as the saying goes.
Narnack are also hinting that a 3LP “Fall Heads Roll” isn't too far off. Having teased this for a couple of years, Early in 2020, it was announced that the label was folding. This announcement was deleted and Narnack immediately moved on to asking fans to suggest what additional material could be added to this new version. Never one of their best, there would have to be some impressive outtakes to persuade yr persent scribe to cough up.
Elsewhere, Phonogram have yet to succumb to new vinyl pressings of their albums, despite the prices fetched on the collectors market for these, especially “Code-Selfish”. This may be partly due to what seems to have been a relatively low take-up for their 6CD box set from 2017. Titled “The Fontana Years”, this was just the 2CD editions of the three albums from 2007 in a box. It therefore looked weak next to the “Singles 1978-2016” box set as well as providing nothing attractive to the faithful who already had them. It hit the shelves at £35-40 a time and, unsurprisingly, remained there and can now be scored for around £20.
The much requested expansion of “The Real New Fall LP” with the original, very different mix of the album has yet to appear. At last count, contractual wrangles between the UK and US were said to be in the way but who knows? If “Levitate” can reappear, surely this can too.
Of course, we never know what else the less-salubrious end of the market will have for us but we shall approach with due caution.
The cold reality: what we get now is all there is. Mark E Smith now exists for Fall fans on paper, on magnetic tape, on vinyl and in combinations of 0 and 1. A sad fact. But it is clear that the appetite for The Fall is, if anything, increasing. Hindsight is presenting The Fall in a particularly clear light. In such a stylised, filtered and carefully marketed world, full of covert strategies and manipulative messaging, The Fall are reassuringly flawed, human, real. Their jagged edges, their constant state of flux, their DIY presentation and their disinterest in convention draws in the curious. The quantity of music suits an insatiable, want-it-all-and-now culture and, having made their albums for the vinyl format as well as bringing us so many magnificent 3-4 minute singles, their music is almost perfectly suited to today's market place where vinyl albums mix with song-by-song streams. People who love to write about music always loved The Fall and it seems that this is every bit as true today as it was in the days when we never had to wait any more than a few months for a missive of some sort, be it an album, a single, a Peel session or even just an entertaining interview.
Given that The Beatles – the most lauded rock/pop act of all time - have finally reached a generation to whom their blithe optimism means absolutely nothing, it is impossible to say how anything in music will be regarded 20 years from now. But for now, at least, The Fall endure. Their vibrations remain intense and powerful. And we, the people, dance to the waves.
Nine out of ten? Nah. Ten out of ten. Top marks.

Psssst do you happen to have any tips or beginners links for newbies who are interested in getting in to the BJD hobby? 👀
*SOFT SCREECH* ALICE COME DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WITH ME... /CLAMBERS FOR
This is a very slap-dash tips post, because a full fledged crash-course would take me much longer than a day to assemble. I think this could get someone started, but I can always answer specific questions if you have them in the future. ❤️
BJD 101: For a rundown of definitions, terminology, and origins of the hobby, I highly recommend checking out the Wikipedia article. (Warning for old vaguely spooky doll photos) I honestly wish I just read this when I got started, haha. It’s not everything, but it’s definitely a start.
Study! Read as much as you possibly can!! Especially terminology and maintenance. I highly recommend watching a bunch of unboxing and review videos- it might seem silly, but they're really helpful to get an idea of scale, how they function/pose, and how they look and feel when handled by a human. I also recommend trying to find owner photos of dolls you’re interested in, because sometimes the store photos are limited!
Join a community! Consider joining a forum like den of angels or a facebook bjd group like BJD Addicts! Exposure to the hobby is really helpful and you learn way faster. It’s fine if you’re shy, you don’t have to interact if you don’t want to- I like lurking DoA for the valuable tutorials and threads on doll brands I'm interested in. Tip: You can view some of DoA’s threads without an account by searching "[subject/doll of choice] den of angels" in google, but i got tired of that pretty fast. Signing up takes a few weeks to get approved but it's worth it for all the knowledge, even old archived stuff.
Window-shop until you drop!! I think the number one regret in the hobby is 'too many dolls, not enough time to love any of them'. So I HIGHLY recommend making wish-lists. These help a lot with avoiding impulse purchases and buyer’s remorse. There are a loooot of dolls out there, so if you've seen a huge majority of them, you'll be more picky.
For me, wishlists include both dream/grail dolls, tentative desires i’m not sure about but want to remember the name of, dolls I could never afford but feel validated writing down somewhere, and also cataloging info- measurements, wig/eye/shoe sizes, resin colors, price, current availability, dealer websites, etc. it becomes such a godsend when you shop for them. you’ll thank me later!!
I spent a lot of time browsing dealer websites like Alice's Collections, Legenddoll, Denver Doll, DOLK Station, etc- I linked some of those here. This is to see what my tastes are. Not EVERY doll company will go through all or any dealers, but it’s a good start!
If you’re the social type, going to conventions or local bjd meetups can help with getting an idea of your preferences! I accidentally walked by one at sakuracon last year and got to hold an MSD and an 11cm tiny, and that was REALLY helpful for me to realize I DID like those sizes. If other doll owners will let you hold theirs, I totally recommend it! (Always ask first, of course! Not everyone is comfortable with it!)
Go!! Slow!!! if you think you're taking it easy, go even slower. i'm so serious. it's so easy to get dazzled, over-eager, or totally overwhelmed by this hobby. especially if you have a habit of hyper focus/special interest tenancies like i do.
Patience is a virtue anyway: If you’re not buying second-hand or in-stock dolls, you will be waiting a while for your doll. Anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on the company and how backlogged they may be at any given point. Dolls are usually pre-order and take time to be made.
Some people like to just buy sculpts and let a character ‘come to them’, which is absolutely valid so if you wanna just go on a feeling that’s great!! i totally can’t afford that route most of the time, so I spend a lot of time mood-boarding for my potential dolls using pinterest and my own art to see just how in love with an idea i am and highly recommend it. I’ll ramble about this in another post soon.
Budget! They are not very cheap like 10-20$ fashion dolls at wal-mart, so those new to the hobby may be shocked. This hobby is an investment and an indulgence/luxury, as with most Nice Things. But don’t be discouraged! There are affordable dolls out there, a lot of Dealer websites offer layaway plans, and the second-hand market is always circulating things!
Here is a DoA list of dolls that are under 300$.
Note: Size of dolls often scale with price, so the bigger it is, the more expensive (and HEAVY) it will be. Some videos on BJD sizing here and here, but Flickr is crawling with height comparisons as well.
Craft or Not To Craft: Are you team 'i'm gonna sew/craft stuff/do wigs/eyes/faceups for my doll' or team 'i'm gonna buy clothes/props/faceups/wigs/etc from other artists!'? I know most people end up being a little bit of both, but these things both cost time or money (or both) so you wanna think about that in the overall price when you're considering a doll. It seems intimidating, but really, it’s the responsible thing to do. I’d rather plan for it than have a naked sad doll to feel bad about. Some personal recommendations below helped me get started:
Wigs: Monique Gold Collection wigs are affordable in the 20 dollar range, and have incredibly soft fiber! (You can find a lot of these available through ebay sellers as well)
Eyes: Lemonjellyshoppe and CandyKittenEmporium have some incredible eyes and also do custom orders!
Sewing Patterns: DGRequim on etsy and SproutyDoll have both been very nice to use and easy understand and modify to fit your doll!
When you’re savvy on the sizing of your dolls and if you’re comfy with secondhand sales, Facebook groups like BJD Addicts Sales & Commissions, BJD Lovers Sales, and BJD Adoption has a lot of people selling BJDs and accessories, oftentimes discounted for de-stashing or collection overhauls!
In addition to the other dealer sites I linked before, Dollmore (which also has an ebay shop) has a lot of options on everything!
Rec@sts and the community- This is a veeery hot button topic, but you’ll probably see a lot of it the more you get into the hobby. I don’t want to talk about it a lot because of the negativity it attracts, but to sum it up: BJDs are essentially commissioned art pieces. They are hand sculpted by an artist or small group of artists, and then cast in resin and refined and strung by hand. There are people that will cast copies of them and sell them for a very cheap profit. To put it simply, it’s theft, and it effects the livelihood of people that make a living of their art. A lot of companies stop making dolls because they can’t compete anymore. Most official doll/art related conventions (LDoll, Resin Rose, etc) ban rec@sted dolls, as well as DoA and several of the facebook groups. Be sure to read all the rules of groups/forums you join them.
A lot of people come into this hobby unaware of this and buy a bootleg doll on sites like Ebay or Aliexpress, and then get turned away from the community without understanding why. There are understandable circumstances that cause someone to end up with a bootleg doll, but it’s also important to respect the artists and creators that share their art with the public.
On that note: Sometimes people will resell 2nd hand dolls as legit when they are not. Be careful about who you buy second-hand dolls from. Also, keeping certificates of authenticity (CoAs), receipts, and original packaging is must if you ever plan to resell your doll!
I... think that’s everything major I can think of... at least enough to get someone started? I know a lot of it is a bit vague, but if you wanted my opinion on a certain brand or size of doll or budgeting tips if money is tight, I’d be happy to give my personal preferences on that separately!! But otherwise, good luck and happy treasure hunting! ヾ(^-^)ノ
