Deborah Kerr (Bonjour Tristesse, An Affair to Remember, The King and I)— For several decades she held the record for most Oscar nominations without a win (6 in total), and she was a prolific leading lady throughout the 40s and 50s. She's best known today for the romance An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant, and as the governess in The King and I. Many people have this erroneous perception of her as extremely prim, proper, and virginal, but this could not be further from the truth. When she first came to Hollywood under MGM she was typecast into boring decorative roles, but broke sexual boundaries for herself and Hollywood generally in From Here to Eternity, when she made out (horizontally!) with Burt Lancaster (on top of him!) in the famous Beach Scene. She went on to play many sexually conflicted women, a character type that would define most of her post- Eternity work. She continued to break Hays Code boundaries with Tea and Sympathy, which addresses homosexuality/homophobia head-on, and even did a topless scene in The Gypsy Moths 1969!! One of the only classic stars to do so. She deserves a more nuanced and frankly a hotter legacy than she currently has!!!

Ethel Merman (Anything Goes, Call Me Madam)— Possessed of a bold, brash voice, and an even bolder and brasher presence, Ethel Merman might be more well known for her stage roles, but she made several movies, and was bold and brash in them as well. Also I think if I don't submit her, she's going to come back and haunt me.

I think she was one of my first crushes before I realised I was bi in The King and I when I watched it as a kid honestly. The kissing scene in From Here to Eternity is iconic for a reason. Actually tried to learn the accents for the characters she was playing if they weren't English which is more than pretty much anyone else was doing then. Played very restrained characters who frequently seemed to be desperate not to be so restrained. Did horror movies without venturing into hagsploitation tropes. Gave Marni Nixon the credit she deserved for her share of the singing in The King and I.

Nominated for an Oscar six (6) times and never won, but besides her having actual talent (hot), and besides her looking Like That (very hot, also beautiful), she was always playing women who are, like, crazy repressed. She's hot in her most famous roles (mentioned above), and also some of her sexiest hacting is on display in An Affair to Remember (her hand on the bannister when Cary Grant kisses her off-screen??? HELLO???), Tea and Sympathy (when she's trying to persuade Tom not to go out and she keeps flexing her hands like she wants to reach out to him but can't??? ALLY BEHAVIOR! WE STAN!), and The Innocents (which opens and closes with extended shots of her hands bc director Jack Clayton was also an ally and he did that for ME). Much of her appeal also lies in the fact that she often played deeply repressed characters and you know what's hot? When those uptight characters finally unravel. It's sexy. It's cathartic. It's erotic. Plus, she's beautiful to look at in both black & white and technicolor, and the more of her films you see, the more you can't help but fall in love!

Literally is in thee most famously sexy scene of all time (or maybe just during the hays code era which is what we're talking about HELLO), which is the beach scene with Burt Lancaster in from here to eternity. To quote a tumblr post of a screen capture of a tweet of a video of joy behar on the view: "y'know, there used to be movies where they were kissing on the beach... From Here to Eternity. They're kissing-- Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr are Kissing on the Beach and then the WAVES crash!! You know exactly what they did!"

She might have a reputation of being chaste and virginal or whatever, but we all know it's the quiet ones who are certifiable FREAKS

OMG YES YES YES!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS WEFNLSNDFLKEN I LOVE THEM!!! I have SO many headcanons for these two <3

Sanji comes out to the crew not long after the time skip, but the first one to know is Robin and she's the one that encourages her to tell the others. However, Sanji is worried (and yes, I am making it Sanuso because I am just that annoying with them) because she isn't sure whether Usopp (they're dating already btw) will still love her after knowing this (not the fact that she's a girl, bc Usopp is like, extremely bi and Sanji knows this. It's more like the concept of being trans and her body and etcetc). Robin tells her about her and Franky and how she was also anxious at first (she's also transfem btw. She has wise older trans girl energy) but he loved her body just the way it is. Perfect. "SUPERRR!" in his words, of course. So Robin tells Sanji that she's sure Usopp will love her either way, but if, for any reason, he doesn't want to keep going with the relationship, that doesn't make Sanji less valuable. Just like Robin didn't need Franky to tell her she's beautiful for her to accept it.

Turns out everyone accepts her, of course, even Zoro is nice to her. Robin is next to Sanji when she tells them the truth about herself and how she'd like to be treated now. However, Sanji is looking at Usopp and Luffy the whole time. Her boyfriend and her captain. Luffy's the first one to break the silence, saying that as long as she's free and happy and still cooks for them, then it's alright!! Robin gives her a fond smile while it happens. Usopp approaches her when everybody is walking away, and without saying anything else, he just kisses her. A thing that is completely new because Usopp is mostly a man of words, but right now he just wants to kiss her, and Sanji isn't complaining. Also, if you're curious about the other straw hats' reactions (can you tell I'm super into this whole thing):

Franky: Now we have three SUPERRRR beautiful ladies on the ship!! 😎 (Or, another option: *Dramatically sobs because Sanji just told them the most heartbreaking story about her life and how she struggled to realize she was a girl*) Nami: Oh fucking finally, I thought I would have to deal with this forever. I thought you were a pervert but turns out you were just repressed as hell! Way to go, girl!!! Welcome to the club!! Zoro: She's still a pervert- Good for you, though. I'm still going to beat your ass when we fight. Not going easy just because of this, shitty cook. Brook: Oh, dear, I'm so glad there are more women here blessing us with their presence. Now, may I see your- *Nami hits him so hard his skull almost breaks in half* Chopper: Sanji!!! I'm so sorry we didn't know anything!!!! Now I feel bad for treating you like a man!!! You're not!!! You're a beautiful woman, Sanji!!! (Sanji: Chopper, I didn't even know. How the hell did you expect to realize first-) *Sobs* I- I don't know!! But I'm sure you'll be even cooler as a woman now!!!

Robin tells Franky ASAP to build a bed for Sanji in the girls' room, but she doesn't tell Sanji right away. Nami helps her move Sanji's stuff from the boys' bedroom to theirs, and they make it a bit cozier and wider for the three of them. After dinner, they show Sanji what they've done and she almost breaks down crying.

Sanji is kind of self-conscious about her body, and she actually really likes wearing her suits, so it isn't a problem. But sometimes she envies Robin and Nami's clothes and bodies, and she wants to be able to wear dresses and more fem clothes too. Robin notices without Sanji saying anything and ends up lending her discreet clothes from her wardrobe for now until they have the chance to go shopping. Nami, then, is the one to buy clothes for Sanji with her own money (as surprising as it sounds) because it's, and I quote: "A real emergency. The fact that I haven't seen you in heels yet is a crime".

She starts thinking about her hair one day when Usopp notices it's getting a lot longer, running his fingers through it. Sanji has always been used to short hair. She doesn't even mind having it like this. A lot of girls have short hair. But perhaps she can... Try. Not cutting it for a while. See where it goes. (Lil spoiler: Turns out she likes long hair because it reminds her of her mom <3 Usopp loves it because this way he can do all sorts of hairstyles with it!!!)

The first time she showers with the girls at some thermal baths they find on an island, she almost has a heart attack. Being a girl does not keep her from simping, she's just a lot more normal about it (I have the lil headcanon that Sanji's constant pervert behavior is just gender envy). But also it's the excitement and feeling of belonging!! Besides, bathing with them is sooo much calmer and nicer than with the boys.

Issues with her voice? Not to worry because Robin, being the wise older transfem she is, teaches Sanji how to feel more comfortable about it and shows her tricks to train it for her voice to sound more soothing and high.

Eventually, Robin asks Sanji if she wants to try and contact Ivankov because they could help with her body, if she wants to. Sanji isn't sure. She feels like changing it completely would be like betraying herself because she doesn't want to be ashamed of her body. She's a girl no matter what, after all. But sometimes dysphoria is just... Too much. And perhaps living with a more fem body would help her. Robin tells her to take her time to think about it, and that no matter what she chooses she'll still be beautiful and a wonderful young woman!!

Silly lil thing but I think Robin would always use her hands (like, her extra hands) to keep Sanji's skirts covering her legs because girl be fighting with Zoro without realizing she's wearing a dress, lmao. The thing about her fighting style being all about kicking doesn't mix with well with some outfits.

Usopp used to be invited to girl nights, along with Chopper. Because Chopper is just, like, y'know, kind of their lil brother and Usopp is... Usopp is Usopp. He's the bestie of the gals. He's one of the girlies (he is not. He's just there because he's like the token gay friend in the girl group that always stands out. Like in teenage movies. Dude wants to be there and Nami doesn't complain). But once Sanji starts joining those girl nights, Usopp is completely banned from them. No boyfriends allowed.

Robin and Nami start using "Sanji-chan" to talk about her and it just makes her feel so so so happy!! (Actually I had to look up if Robin uses -chan for Nami and she actually does when talking to others about her???? Which is cute. I think they'd do it with Sanji for gender-affirming reasons mostly rather than just using honorifics).

Whenever Sanji argues with Usopp (surprisingly more often than you probably think, but it's just about stupid stuff) she always goes to Robin because she's the rational one and will probably help her better than anybody else. And also Usopp asks Nami for advice so Sanji can't exactly go to her.

If I start talking about my ideas for Whole Cake Island with transfem Sanji hiding that she's a girl and Luffy going after her to save her I might actually die so I won't (and this would probably change this whole thing to a Lusan post and we don't want that right now). But!! Thinking about Sanji in WCI missing Robin's presence because she always knows what to say, and not knowing if telling Reiju is a good idea.

I'm out of ideas ngl

ok i just said it doesn't really bother me but i do wanna rant a little bc it's SO insane to claim that you're only a real homosexual if you've never felt an ounce of attraction to ANYONE but your own gender... as though True Attraction is easily defined and quantifiable for everyone? as though gendered attraction is in and of itself something that involves some essence of other people's genders or whatever and not just what you percieve???

think of how many twinks have mistaken for butches and vice versa lmao. is everyone involved in those funny little mixups not a real gay anymore? hell, what about gay people in the closet who can't quite accept their attraction to their own gender yet but their "type" of the "appropriate" gender is effeminate guys/tomboys? if someone wants to enter the gay identity do they absolutely HAVE to renounce all past attraction to the "opposite" gender as fake? why? says who? why would it not be enough to say "i'm significantly happier and feel more natural embracing attraction to, and being with, my own gender"?

like yeah, personally, i do deem the attraction that i used to think i had for women as fake. but i'm an incredibly self-aware and self-analytical and generally In My Head person. i can look in there and see the throughline and know the exact reason i thought i liked girls, and hell, i can even remember the conscious thoughts i had where i was forcing myself to feel it. but i do NOT expect everyone to be the same?? like that would be insane. if everyone was as self-aware as me, specifically. that's not healthy lol.

but anyway, on that same vein, repression and the closet are seriously powerful things. there may have been a layer of conscious attempt to be masculine in the mix, but when i was 16 and searching for things to appreciate in girls' appearances and, because i was trying so hard, sometimes finding them, and acheiving that abstract feeling of attraction that i was looking for... would it really be SO insane if i now wanted to say that yes, i have been attracted to women, and i just got over it?

when i say that i'm not attracted to women now, that doesn't even mean that i have never been attracted to a single woman. it means that womanhood and femininity does not inherently appeal to me. that's where "exceptions" come in - it's literally not that deep. it's when you recognize that you're feeling something, and maybe you're unsure but it seems at least attraction-adjacent, but it's not related to the prerequisite of gender that's usually on your capacity for attraction; it's in spite of it. i have to imagine that the majority of the time when this happens, it's because the person is in fact somewhat androgynous, or some part of you percieved this person as the gender you do like when you weren't conscious of it, or there's some aspect of their appearance that has the right gendered "energy" to you. and sometimes people just look really fucking interesting, or people are just excpetionally beautiful, and it hits you so hard that it seems like attraction but you're really just in a brief moment of awe! sometimes you just enter the cosmic soup for a second!

and feeling superior about having never had this happen to you is... well, it's just that, isn't it? it's purely about feeling superior. i honestly don't even believe that it's truly the case for that one person. i feel like the internal need to say shit like that has got to come from an insecurity about the fact that you're not that "true homosexual" that you're claiming deserves to never be implied to have things in common with all other gay people.

furthermore... the notion of it being homophobic to identify as gay when you're "not 100% internally homosexual"? well i mean obviously that's the terf shit. it's the braindead idea that other people's identities take anything away from you. as if anyone actually identifies as gay "when they're actually bi" just for fun and not because their "straight" attraction is extremely incidental and/or just does not preclude actually acting on it... like duh, lol. and even if it was for fun, it literally still takes nothing. it's a completely imaginary danger.

and it's so batshit in particular bc going out of your way to harass other gay people and tell them they're not gay is objectively the fucking homophobic thing??? like how on earth do you see yourself as the better person here. christ lol

DC has once again accidentally given Dick Grayson an interesting character trait by being repressed bigots and I can’t stop thinking about it

Specifically this time I’m thinking about how they keep queerbaiting Dick but it actually makes sense with his character if you think about it for two seconds

Because No, I Don’t Think That He Would be open about his sexuality with others, if he has come to terms with it at all

While I’d love to talk about the history of queerness in comics, I don’t have the energy for it right now. What I will say however is that modern day Dick Grayson is written as a very millennial character, in both fan-spaces and modern comics despite whatever age the retcons have set

I think people forget how far queer acceptance has come in recent history, twenty years ago, even ten years ago, we were not at the place we are now, it’s honestly insane how quickly things changed from 2015 to now

Like, No He Wouldn’t be ‘out and proud’ in the Gen Z sense, most older gay people that I know are private about their gender and sexuality, either because of bullying when they were younger, abuse, or the media never picturing queer people as anything other than villains or jokes

He’s had constant media pressure on him from an early age, in both aspects of his identity, his ethnicity already makes him stray from the ideal cishet WASP that a private school and Bruce’s social circles would want him to be, even as he got older his love life was in the public eye when he dated Kori as Dick Grayson

And that’s not even getting into how his relationship with his sexuality would be affected by his history of sexual abuse

Him appearing on pride covers/events or openly supporting queer people in the text is different from him turning to the audience and saying “Hey, I’m bisexual,” or “Did you know that I’ve always been demisexual and biromantic?” or even a “I like guys too,” and frankly it would be out of character for him to say so

For some people, being out to close family and friends is wildly different from ‘coming out,’ especially for a public figure like Dick Grayson or Nightwing is in his world. And I feel like that could make an interesting dynamic with a member of his family like Tim, who is out publicly as Tim Drake-Wayne. Tim who is written as a part of Gen Z in his early twenties or something rn (even though 90’s kid Tim will always have my heart)

And this is a personal anecdote but I’m thinking about how my little sister and I were standing in the checkout line one day and she starts talking about how gay an outfit that I tried on looked, and how quickly I changed the subject. She about nine years younger than me but old enough to know that we live in a conservative area. It was a bit panic inducing, and it’s so interesting to think about how even though I’m on the older side of Gen Z, I was still raised in a culture that said we don’t talk about these things especially not in public. Like I was still called a dyke in middle school but when I hit junior year all of a sudden it was trendy (if a bit fetishized) to be bi. She, thankfully, never really has to deal with that

So whenever he’s on a pride variant cover and people are complaining about a lack of formal representation, all I can do is seethe bc yes it’s completely in character for him but obviously detective comics comics isn’t doing it on purpose

#he would not say that but it’s about dick being open about aspects of his identity #and this isn’t to say I hate fanon AUs where everyone is gay with no consequences and homophobia doesn’t exist #I just was thinking about how DC keeps baiting the fandom with little quips and covers and cameos #but if they had him outright come out on page and pretended like he’s never had any struggles with his sexuality I think I’d actually riot #he strikes me as the kind of person to come out to his family much later in life #after he’s got everything in his brain figured out #when Dick Grayson trusts you with information about his life he’s giving you a gift #and it’s shown that he’s only going to give it to people he knows won’t use it to their advantage #dick grayson analysis #dick grayson #this got long #*

everyone wonders why mcvries and stebbins became so fixed on garraty who is literally just a guy but i think the answer is because they both clocked him as gay

garraty is like those guys who date girls and everything but you always get some minor gay vibes from him. i don't how to explain it but in my defense there's a least three characters in the walk who think garraty is queer: stebbins, mcvries and parker

garraty has massive good nice american boy energy and he looks kinda normal compared to the others but we all know deep down he has a bunch of unresolved sexual issues and he's not good at hiding it

also he spends a lot of time staring at the other boys. that's literally canon. mcvries spent all that time flirting with him firstly bc he thought garraty was cute and second bc he sensed he was possibly closeted or in denial about being bi/gay

and stebbins was fixated on garraty bc of that as well i mean SO MANY of their interactions are basically stebbins teasing him for being sexually repressed

okay, but the fact I'm pretty sure Maki's LHS is about that friend (she tells Shuichi she used to play family with that friend and then in LHS she's like "we used to play family and we promised to become one when we grow up")

one of my fav "this is actually qp now, not doing the sibling dynamic" Amami ships beside amaguji, amamatsu is a bit below, it's the basic default cute option that will be good to see with any dynamic so I don't go for it, seen too much background romantic amamatsu in fics that protag Harukawa fic that seems silly if you judge it by it's cover is doing harumami propaganda to me, I think it's literally titled "ass in an assassin", unless I mistaken it with something else (since I know the title exists, I just hope I associate it with the correct fic)

The first thing a Vrul child ever learns is fear. Or at least, that was the first thing Krill ever learned. Under the eyes of the council, all young Vrul just out of Larvae state came to know that the universe, even their own world, was dangerous, uncaring, and full of hostility. And, at least to the Vrul, this was somewhat of a reality considering that the central cities and the councils of the Vrul homeworld had been made in response to a sort of fungal zombie apocalypse that occurred over thousands of years ago, so long that their people somehow managed to forget up until recently.

For these reasons, though they had been unknown to the universe at large, it was once assumed that Vrul neuroticism was simply a natural trait of their species, prone to overstressing and nervousness, but it turned out the behavior was a product of learned helplessness, repression and something like brainwashing that had been carried out for as long as anyone could remember.

The result?

Krill had never not been afraid.

Once upon a time he had spent most of his energy being afraid for himself, what could happen to him, what would happen to his career, what, what what, but when he had finally broken from the council and fallen in with a group of humans, that fear had turned into the fear FOR someone else; who would get hurt next, how could he protect them, what would happen if he didn’t manage to.

That fear had continued with him for the better part of a decade or so, but now….. Well Krill had a new fear.

A fear for the entire universe: what would happen if the void won, how would they stop it, and what could he even do to help. Ever since taking a step back onto arcadia, and becoming the dean of medicine and the chief of surgery, Krill had been happy enough to take on a more supporting role. He had mostly given up his active participation in everything that was going on content to do what he was best a.

In a time of peace, Krill really thrived, because in a time of peace there was no greater enemy than the reality of mortal frailty.

But now.

Things were getting bad again, things had gotten bad on a cosmic scale, and now he found himself back where it all started, on a ship headed towards the unknown, possibly death.

And he was terrified

He stared out at the vast darkness, the wash of black that dominated the reaches of the night sky. One of his cerebral hemispheres idly tried to count the stars but lost track somewhere in the thousands, and eventually gave up, his thoughts petering away into concern and frustration.

Krill the support class, he mused idly.

He had taken that metaphor from one of those tabletop role playing games Riss had roped him into. Krill had recommended it to his colleague once, and ever since Riss had roped him into a game every tuesday night with a dedicated band of very nerdy humans at the nearby dice shop.

Krill had chosen a barbarian as his incarnation, and Riss hadn’t failed to point out later that evening that the choice was somewhat telling about Krill’s own psyche. Krill had rolled his eyes at the shrink, but Riss had continued undaunted.

“You feel physically inadequate in your everyday life. You are surrounded by people and beings who have the capacity for immense strength, durability, and combat skill, and despite all your intelligence, all your knowledge, you are easily squishable, like a support class wizard.” he tacked on thoughtfully to the end.

Krill did not like being psychoanalyzed, which was funny considering the person he had chosen to cohabitate with.

What Krill was to medicine, Riss was to the mind. Krill admired his dedication, intelligence and ability to have a rousing argument, but sometimes the little vrul was incredibly punchable. The more annoying part was that Riss was actually bigger than Krill, by about an inch, and thicker in the limbs, so even if Krill wanted to punch him, it probably wouldn’t do any good.

Krill, like most medical professionals of the body, had thrown away Riss’s opinion out of hand and grumbled about how his “analysis” was simply a matter of opinion and not a very good one at that, while also secretly knowing that Riss had just been pointing out an obvious truth that krill himself refused to acknowledge.

He was weak

And he hated it

He told everyone he was fine with staying behind where it was safe, and he wouldn’t have been lying if the others he cared about were willing to do the same, but he was surrounded on all sides by a bunch of self sacrificial heroes, and none of them ever did anything unless it was to their own detriment.

And krill could do nothing.

Not until after the fact when things might have already started to get out of hand.

He hated watching them go off without him to do dangerous things only to sit there and twiddle his antenna while he waited for them to return. Not to mention, when you are support class stuck in a group of tanks, you sometimes tend to get left behind through not intention of the tanks.

It’s just, he simply couldn’t keep up.

Oh and this was not even to mention all the fear he had surrounding his own progeny: Clotho, Atropos and Lachesis, but if he opened that can of worms right now, he would probably drown in it.

“Now that’s a brooding face if I ever saw one.” Riss said from the doorway.

Krill looked up from his warm cup of sugar water, and turned away from the vast reaches of space, and the shattered carnage contained within, “This is just my face.”

Riss shook his head and stepped further inside, four legs dancing easily around the door before shutting it behind him, “No, that’s a brooding face.”

“I am always brooding.” Krill shot back stubbornly

Riss smirked, “Yeah but this is the more serious kind of brooding.”

Krill huffed, “Next time I will attempt to wear my less serious brooding face.”

Riss, Krill’s most tolerable cohabitant, took a seat across from him.

The two of them had met a few years ago after Riss had risked his life to get away from the Vrul council, and a termination order had been placed on his head. Technically they had met before that briefly on occasion many years ago when Riss had fallen in a river and Admiral Vir had jumped in to save him, but Krill hardly counted that.

Riss hadn’t been very old at the time, and Krill didn’t see that it counted.

Since meeting more officially, the two of them had made an agreement, an experiment meant to defy the Vrul council and prove the brainwashing that they knew had been happening all along. Each donating genetic material to the project, they had come up with the triplets, progeny to observe and learn from in a stable environment to see just how the average Vrul might actually behave under low-pressure upbringings.

They were the first Vrul to be born and raised without the influence of the council.

They were little monsters.

And now Krill was stuck with a cohabitant, though he tried not to argue as it was occasionally nice to have someone to talk to.

He supposed he liked Riss enough.

Maybe.

“So are you going to talk to me?” Riss asked, slumping back into his seat.

Krill snorted and took a sip, “That depends, are you going to try and use your jedi mind powers on me.”

Riss held out his hand, and krill reluctantly handed over his sugar water. Riss took a gently sip before passing the cup back, “Adam is rubbing off on you.”

Krill snorted, “How can he not. The amount of ancient pop culture references he uses is astounding.”

“Or could it be that you miss your friend, and are trying to find a way to reconnect with him on some level?” Riss said, the nonchalance just oozing out of him.

Krill had to fight down the sudden desire to throw a brick at his head but refrained.

“I thought I said no jedi mind powers.”

“I’m not using my jedi mind powers. I am using my “we have lived together for over four years'' powers, and I think you are frustrated that the current circumstances are not conducive to you being involved. The stakes are too high, and you are not equipped to handle it. In the end that results in all of your friends leaving you behind to protect you, and you have to sit around and wait for them to come back. Back in the old days the stakes were low enough you could sometimes be involved, but now a war is going on and there is no place for you on the front lines where all of your friends tend to go.”

Krill actually had a medical textbook in his hand before deciding better of throwing it at Riss and set the book down.

Riss waited.

Krill waited.

“Talk to me.”

“Why?”

Riss huffed, “For architect’s sake krill, I don’t know, we live together, we have children together, we spend an inordinate amount of time together, oh and listening to people talk is my actual JOB. IF none of those reasons are good enough than CLEARLy I have misread this situation.”

Krill lifted his head chin jutting stubbornly, “Maybe you have.”

Riss rolled his head in a mimicry of eye rolling, so hard Krill thought he was going to snap his spinal column, “Rings of Nebulon you are stubborn.”

Krill huffed but went quiet.

Riss waited patiently.

Krill hated it but somehow the stupidsmugness of Riss worked it’s magic and he wilted, “I detest being useless. The most work I do these days is to give other people magical powers on occasion and sit in on the war meetings, which I know Adam only does because we are friends, and not actually because he needs my opinion. I am not a tactician, I am a surgeon.”

Riss tilted his head slightly.

Krill threw up his hands. Now that he was going, he wasn’t going to be able to stop, “I am useless in all of this. I wish there was more than I could do to PREVENT people from getting hurt instead of just dealing with the aftermath. I wish there was something that I could do.”

Riss reached out and took the cup Krill offered to him, “Mmmmm….” there was a long silence between the two of them. Krill really didn’t expect Riss to offer a solution, as there were no real solutions to be had, “Have you ever thought about undergoing the surgery yourself.”

Krill nearly spit out his mouthful of sugar water, “What!”

Riss looked up at him and shrugged, “You want to help so bad, why not unleash your anima power and get the surgery.”

Krill frowned, “I can’t do surgery on myself.”

He shook his head, “No, but, Dr. Katie has been working for you for years. By all rights she is an incredibly talented surgeon.”

Krill shook his head, “She’s talented for a human, but it takes all four of my cortical hemispheres to perform the surgery without killing anyone. As good as Katie is, which is very good, she is still human. The surgery would require her to stand in one place for nearly a day straight, no eating or sleeping.”

Riss shook his head, “No she doesn't, the hardest part of the surgery is the last part of the surgery. Plenty of people can perform the first part, you have just always insisted on doing it yourself. Katie has done microneurosurgery on plenty of occasions.”

Krill still shook his head, “I allow Conn to connect to one of my hemispheres independently so I can see where I am going when I make that last cut, that is not something a human can do.”

Riss held out his hands, “Look, you can shoot down the idea all you want, but I think Katie can do it, and i think it would be the answer to your problem. Imagine Krill, you could help your friends on the battlefield not just as a support.”

Krill paused, “And if Katie fails, my soul goes to the necrotorium.”

Riss frowned, “Risks in all things I suppose.”

Krill found that to be a bit of an understatement, but still, the idea was at least interesting.
