“Signals” is still the funniest episode of She-ra.... frankly it embodies the strengths and weaknesses of the show at this stage...  

Rebellion story: Ridiculous scooby doo shenanigans. It turns out the GHOSTS were HOLOGRAMS!!!!!  Everyone realises their friendship is the thing that mattered. Bow misinterprets an incredibly plot important signal for a glitch on his tracker pad. This glitch is interpreted correctly as a signal later... entirely offscreen. 

Horde story: Threatening political intrigue as Catra claws her way to power, is at constant risk of death, and gets accidentally usurped by a sunshine gremlin with no self preservation instinct. How? She was the only one brazen and dumb enough to tell the Evil Supreme Overlord that his electronics were below the standard of a middle school student. Somehow this is an incredible plot twist with huge implications for the rest of the story and for Catra’s psyche. 

#also: other characters? what other characters? the show is struggling enough to get even 3 or 4 of each side in each ep #especially at this part where the horde is kind of bloated with 5 major characters #while the rebellion has barely got time for best friend squad but apparently uses that time on scooby doo plots #yeahhhhhh they were not interesting in s2 at all im sorry #thus mermista perfuma and frosta were ENTIRELY ABSENT #she ra #spop #i love analysing these things i can tell why they did most of this #its not quite like owl house while i scream begging them to stop giving us kikimora

hey it's me, the resident loom hater, up thinking about how much i hate the loom again. wondering what you would have made the Big Evil Bad guy for s2 instead of a loom- if you choose to respond this it can be a serious and well-thought out answer that genuinely works OR you can say "a really large hamster" and both would be more compelling than The Loom. personally i wanted renslayer full bad guy arc. anyway peace and love but not to the loom.

I don't know really, because a new villain would require everything to be different, and then I have to think of a plot and there's a good 90 to 95% chance that whatever I thought up I'd like it more than That Fucking Loom, and then I would yet again be mad at the wasted potential and the fact that I cannot fix that :S

Thinking about how EP 5 was so Stizzy Coded

#izzy hands #and 1-3 was edizzy #but honestly why did they give izzy so better moments with stede and ed than gb had with eachother #like there were a few decent moments #but none of them beat izzy and stede with the cursed suit and the ed and izzy gun scene #honestly 1-3 & 5 are my only valid eps of s2 #4 & 6 had good moments that unfortunately went nowhere/came out of nowhere and thus fall flat for me #ep 5 lives in its own imaginary universe where the rest of the season never happens #and we have a stede and izzy training plot as well as an ed reconnects with the crew plot for the rest of the show #and those happening together builds a strong crew that stops ricky / whatever villain #everytime I see that gifset of izzy giving the 😉👌 to stede and stede gives a big smile my heart grows

I have to wonder how much of s2 being "not good" was more a product of people constantly complaining about it and even going through the trouble to meet Anthony only to insult him to his face and say they hated the season. I feel like a lot of the pacing and problems started when Anthony gave up on the literal main conceit of the series: Monster Of The Week btvs shit. And sure, he said that he supposedly agreed with the fandom that the first like 10 episodes weren't "going anywhere" but we had all the time in the world to fuck around in s1 and do literally nothing but talk around a car for episodes at a time so I don't think it would've been bad if we hung out at school and weren't going for Plot™!!!! nonstop with no breaks.

And to be fair this happens with pretty much every one of these spontaneous succeses. It happened with Taz Amnesty going way too hard, too fast and not necessarily taking the time to pace it correctly and just live in the world. They want to recapture that magic that the first season had but forget that magic usually comes from fucking around for 30 episodes to sufficiently (though, accidentally) come to that great and badass final episode conclusion.

I love Anthony very much and I think he is genuinely an amazing writer but as someone who has played the pre-sequel, I can definitively tell you when Anthony Burch is halfassing something lol. I don't think he didn't care about the season, I think he was just super stressed and the way they were going about this season wasn't supporting his strengths as a creative. He's obviously very good coming up with the most heart wrenching shit you've ever seen on the fly and he's good at writing a planned and prepared story but he's not as good at trying to do plan a semi-prepared story with half baked ideas literally in the moment as it's happening. Anyone would forget shit even the important things when you're trying to juggle multiple plot lines and execute character arcs. And it is funny but I can't imagine the Psychological Warfare the dads put him through is all that helpful when you're trying to figure out how to bring a football stadium organically in the story lol.

I really hope our parasocial distant father who fucked our mom and then left for milk takes a rest and pulls himself away from all this negativity and he finally just gets to be a Deranged Small Child with a Knife again. Thats clearly all he wants and who can blame him

weird to think that next season could be the last season of bob's burgers EVER. like I don't think it will be (it has good viewership and s13 and s14 have some of the highest rated and most critically-acclaimed episodes of the show so the quality is still pretty consistent) but we don't have any confirmation of renewal past s15 so we could be facing like the last 30 episodes of the show right now. which feels rude like wtf I just got here!!! let me settle in at least before u go.....
