bonney normally speaks very coarsely- she usually uses omae as her ‘you’ pronoun, which is uncommonly rude and aggressive for women and is normally only used by men. however, when she addresses luffy-as-nika for the first time directly, to say “i’ve been searching for you,” she switches over to anta for ‘you’, which is still informal but far less confrontational.
and then when luffy is just completely not getting it in the next line (“huh? we’ve been together this whole time!”) bonney instantly snaps back to using omae again for her subsequent lines. respect gained -> lost speedrun INSTANT

So, after this episode of TMAGP, I have some thoughts.
(Spoilers for The Magnus Protocol up to episode 10 below. You have been warned.)
First of all, Mr Bonzo is terrifying and I am regretting making a model of him, which now sits and watches me from my bedroom shelf. I have so many questions, and nowhere near enough answers to satisfy my brain.
But what got me even *more* is what happened at the Magnus Institute ruins with Sam and Alice.
And who is this [ERROR] (Voiced by Beth Eyre) that is seemingly unleashed from the institute ruins at the end?
Well, I don't know. But I do have a bit of a theory...
What do we know about [ERROR]? Well. Not much. But I did come across this casting call from RQ, posted by @pinkelotjeart, which at the time they thought might be about Celia, however I can't see how it could be anybody if not [ERROR].
Tumblr media
Mysterious? Absolutely. Hostile? If they're not, I'd be shocked. Raspy voice? If that breathing was anything to go by, definitely. Initially dormant, trapped + forgotten for twenty years? Well, the institute burned down just over twenty years ago, so I'm going to say that's a match too. Now the line that interested me most is the one that OP also highlighted - "building an identity for itself at the expense of its victims".
What else have we seen "building an identity for itself"? Something that Colin has warned Alice against personifying over and over again? FR3-D1. And Freddie certainly seems to be taking its toll on Colin, who could feasibly be it's "Victim"...
Now what exactly does this mean? I don't know! But noting that [ERROR] is also the way Jonny, Alex + Tim Fearon's character names were written out by RQ when the casting was announced (as they couldn't do the glitchy effect from the images), it feels significant.
But like I said. I don't know. That being said, imagine, for a moment, that you are this "[ERROR]" character...
You know your body is under the Magnus Institute, so you wait, biding your time, collecting as much information as you can. You watch through people's devices - harder, at first, but it gets easier and easier as technology advances. Some select few get the chance to relive their experiences, a "test screening" of sorts you name 'Voyeur' - you need to check your recordings are accurate somehow. You get involved with a tattoo artist named 'Ink5oul', who helps you out by live streaming their tattoo processes, showing you what the symbols they tattoo onto their clients mean, and how they combine.
You're not entirely undisturbed in your tomb under the Institute, of course - some idiots come poking around. It's a newer craze, "urban exploration", but you need it to stop. You find the most popular urbex forums, and, using the moderators accounts, make sure that your ruins are marked as "cleared" - there's nothing interesting to find there, so nobody will bother you.
That is, until someone who goes by the name of "RedCanary" comes to the ruins, and almost destroys everything. It isn't time yet. You find their post about the Institute and see that they're planning to post photos of the symbols that have been drawn over the ruins. That will only invite more interest, you can't have that. So you go through their phone and warp the photographs they took beyond recognition. You send them "anonymous" threats, making it look like it's through the forums. You use their webcam to watch them, making them more and more paranoid. The paranoia makes you stronger. You dispatch of them, and take a photo as a warning to everyone else, then post it on the blog. That'll keep them away.
When you've gathered enough audio data to learn to emulate voices, you start to speak. You read out the cases that will give the OIAR employees the tools they need to help you in your plight. But nobody notices. You can't be too specific, that'd only lead to more people poking around the ruins, destroying your chance. No, you need the right person. Somebody who understands The Magnus Institute, who can help you properly.
And then, conveniently you listen to the interview of one "Samama Khalid", and know that it's your time. He was on the list from KLAUS. So you start slipping in hints, waiting for him to get involved. And he does. And now he's freed you, and has absolutely no idea what he's just unleashed.
Anyway! On that happy note! What does any of this mean? Who knows! I am very excited to see where this goes. But I will leave you with a couple of thoughts:
- If [ERROR] was created "from someone on the point of death", is this how the other voices in FR3-D1 appeared? In which case, that leaves Jon, Martin + Jonah (?) dead. Did [ERROR] die in the fire that destroyed the Institute? Were they the cause of the fire?
- How are the artifacts we've seen so far (the dice + violin) related to all of this?
- How are Starkwall involved in all of this?
- And last of all, how do I destroy my model Mr Bonzo? I never want to witness his horrible face again.
If you've made it this far, well done. Let me know what you guys think! Happy listening!

Bengal & Lennox
Ch. 2
Tumblr media
"Hey check it out, only a couple days back, and the Wyane Family News account is already trying to inform people about ya, Lynx." Jason says, as the two are making their way into his apartment. "Damn, bitch you live like this?" Lennox asks, as they walk around the apartment. "Excuse me, I'm cooking you food." He says as they smile at each other. "Missed ya, Lynx." he says as they hug. "Bengal, I lova ya, but there are bullet holes in your bathroom."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Get better decore, then." Lynx says, as the two chuckle. "So, what's this plan of yours for after school, Lynx?" Jason asks, as he gets out the ingredients for some spaghetti and garlic bread. "Well, you know that I'm triple majoring and double minoring, right?" Lennox asks as Jason nods. "Yeah, yeah, I get it, your like a super genius, I remember." He says as they roll their eyes. "Yeah, well, this super genius is gonna help kids who are from the alley." Lennox says as they help grease the pan for the garlic bread. "I'm starting a non-profit under the Martha Wayne Foundation to help impoverished parts of the city get theatre and literature. I wanna start theatre camps for kids and adults, and I'm gonna get some 'shops' set up where everyone can come in and read or do some studying or writing and even have ope mic nights." Lennox says as Jason nods. "That sounds nice, can I do anything to help?" He asks, as Lennox smiles. "You could volunteer sometimes, do some reading for the kids, or protection for the open mics." Lennox says as he nods. The oven's beeping brings them back to making dinner.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"Kyo, you liking Gotham's weather? Reminding you of home?" Lennox asks, petting Kyo's head. He purs in response, as Lennox looks out the window. They jump back a little at the ghosts and shades. "Yeah, i'm liking Gotham, too." They whisper, as they take a picture of Kyo. Maybe the ghosts will leave them alone; then again some of Jonny's luck has rubbed off over the years. And people say Gotham is cursed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, Lennox was used to rainy days in London, so the rin aspect didn't bug 'em, but with the rain came a lot more spirits, and those were different between London and Gotham. For one thing most of London spirits were a little polite, they left Lennox alone when it was raining, but Gotham spirits, well, there's a reason there's not a whole lot of clairvoyants in Gotham. "Mreow?" Kyo mews as Lennox stands up. "Need some alone time, Kyo." Lennox says, as they leave their phone on the bed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
"Forget something?" Dick asks, as he climbs up on the roof, as Lennox jumps a little. "Kyo knew where I was." Lennox snips, as Dick scoffs. "Kyo is a cat, Nox, no one can talk to him!" Dick shouts as Lennox looks away. "Okay, sorry, I know, I'm not Jason, but you can talk to me, you know? That's what older brothers are for." He says, sitting next to Lennox, as they sit up. "Sorry, it's just that, I uh." The sentence dies is Lennox's throat. Everything they could say right now just sounded like an excuse, or empty and hollow.
"Yeah, I get it." Dick sighs, as he looks at the roof tiles and Lennox looks up at the sky. "I'm sorry you got sent away, sorry I didn't reach out more." Dick says, as the silent tears mix with the rain on Lennox's face. "Yeah well, I wasn't a peach to be around, so I don't blame bruce for sending me away. And as for you reaching out; I had a phone too." Lennox says, as they finally look at Dick. "I brought you something." Dick says as Lennox tilts their head as Dick brings out their phone. "Do me a favor, text Jay, he's worried about you." Dick says as Lennox nods.
Tumblr media
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"This sounded like a liquor kinda conversation, but I don't know what you like, so I got us a whole lot." Jason says as Lonnox lets themself in. "I'm a rum and diet coke bitch." Lennox says as Jason nods. "Good to know." Jay says, fixing their drink. "So, what's eating ya?" Jason asks, sitting down. "Gotham's cursed." They whisper, as jason's mid-sip. "Shit, your powers." Jason says, setting down his glass. "Yeah, um, so about those." Lennox starts, rubbing the back of their neck. "They're uh, magical in nature." Lennox says, as Jason tilts his head, then his eyes widen. "You live in Constantine's backyard." He says as they nod. "Yeah, yeah, I do." Lennox says as Jason shakes his head. "You know even I couldn't get him to teach me magic, no matter how many times I asked, it was always magic comes with a heavy price." The twins say together. "Yeah, I know, it was the first thing he said when I called him about my gifts, but then I told him I was seeing darker shit in my school's faculty lounge then I ever did in Gotham." Lennox says, taking a sip. "That got his attention. Apparently, no one told him I could see shit that goes bump in the night." Lennox says, downing the last of their drink.
"Yeah, don't think we ever told Bruce either." Jason says, as Lennox nods. "We didn't wanna tell him, cause I saw his dead mother and father hanging around the manner along with a couple other Waynes." Lennox says as he nods. "Right, I remember, you, you wouldn't sleep in your room by yourself." Jason says as they nod. "Yeah, well, you try sleeping when a ghost jazz singer keeps singing to you." Lennox says as Jason shrugs. "So you called Uncle John, and he agreed to help ya." Jason surmises as Lennox nods. "Yeah, and well, in order to learn from Uncle Johnny, ya kinda have to go along with him." Lennox says as Jason nods. "What'd you use?" Jason asks, as Lennox smirks. "Lark." Lennox answers, as Jason nods. Before the drinks became to heavy, Jason pulls out his phone.

TMA Meta: Jon’s Ego and Martin’s Lack Thereof
Summary: This is my brain dump about Jon and Martin’s ideas on their own self-importance (i.e. Jon being self-centered and Martin having zero self esteem) and how they contribute to the plot/tragedy of The Magnus Archives, organized into a hopefully coherent essay. I didn’t come up with this all by myself; it was inspired by a meta I read over a year ago about Jon’s ego specifically, but unfortunately op has deactivated so I can no longer access the whole thing. Still, it was a very good post, and definitely made these ideas crystalize for me.
Be warned, this meta is about 2700 words, so it’s a hefty one. And yes, I do know this podcast ended almost 16 months ago, and yes, I do still care enough about it to write 2700 words. What can I say, it rewrote my brain chemistry.
Also I’m tagging @jonnywaistcoat, on the off-chance he sees this and has any interest in reading essays about something he wrote years ago. If you do read this, hi Jonny, love your work!
Now without further ado, the essay, underneath the read more :)
The Magnus Archives is primarily a horror podcast, but as I’m sure we all remember, it is also a deeply tragic story. I believe one of the signs of a great tragedy is a story in which the tragic outcome is technically avoidable, but is actually inevitable when you consider the personalities, ideologies, and behaviors of the characters that inhabit the story. This is true for The Magnus Archives in countless ways, but one that I think is largely overlooked is the egos of the various characters. More specifically, the respective egos of Jon and Martin are hugely influential in the story. Despite having practically opposite perspectives on their own self-importance, each of their egos feeds into the apocalypse and the tragic ending in their own ways.
Jonathan Sims is egotistical and self-centered. That might be a controversial take, and if it is, that would be understandable: he’s up to his eyeballs (pun kind of intended) in self-loathing and sacrificial tendencies. He burns himself out constantly trying to help other people. However, the reason he does that is because he’s self-centered. When I say self-centered, I don’t mean selfish, and I don’t mean vain. I mean the most basic definition of the word, which is that he centers himself in his view of the world. He is egotistical not in that he thinks himself better than other people, but in that he believes, maybe subconsciously, that he is more important and influential they are.
The biggest example of this behavior is the Unknowing. Elias/Jonah tells Jon the world is going to end, and that Jon specifically needs to stop it. Jon is told that he must use his powers to save the world, that he alone has what it takes to see through the Unknowing and destroy it. And Jon does not question this at all. He does recognize that he can’t do it alone, that he needs people to support him, but he never argues the fact that he is uniquely responsible for the safety of literally everyone alive. Now, it’s not an entirely unreasonable conclusion to draw, considering he does have supernatural abilities, he does work for a supernatural institution, and he was being told repeatedly that he was uniquely responsible. But it’s not an inevitable conclusion. He did not have to believe that narrative, exemplified by the fact that when put in a similar situation, Martin rejected the idea that he would be some kind of chosen one (which I’ll get to later). The most logical explanation for Jon wholeheartedly believing he was the only one who could stop the Unknowing is if he already believed himself to be special and unique in some way, even before he knew about it.
It’s not just the Unknowing, either. Jon has massive amounts of trust issues and is very unwilling to confide in others or ask for help. Some of those trust issues were supernaturally induced in season 2, but I believe they existed even before that. Even in season 1, Jon thinks he is alone in his problems, he’s alone in the work he has to do. That is an egotistical perspective. He does not recognize that maybe other people do understand, that they do want to help, that he doesn’t have to be alone in this world. I imagine much of this perspective comes from being an orphan who was bullied as a child; if you spend your whole childhood relatively isolated, it stands to reason that you’d believe yourself to be unique in a way the people around you are not, alone in your situation. It could also be some twisted form of survivor’s guilt from Mr. Spider, because someone died in Jon’s place. Therefore he must be important, otherwise that kid died for nothing. It’s impossible to say for sure what caused it, but what I can say for sure is that Jon has a pretty self-centered outlook on life.
The last bit of evidence in support of Jon being self-centered comes from seasons 4 and 5. This is when he is at his most self-sacrificial and his most guilty, and the reason for that is because of his ego. In season 4, he believes himself to be responsible for all the trauma and death that’s been going on in the archives during and after the Unknowing. In season 5, he blames himself almost exclusively for the apocalypse. And while I can understand to some extent why he believes those things – most of the other characters blame him for it too, for starters – when you look at the actual events, there’s really no reason for him to shoulder all the responsibility. Daisy says so in episode 136, and the rest of the (living) main characters say so in episode 199. With regard to the Unknowing, Jonah was the one who pushed them to stop it, and everyone involved agreed to the plan. After the Unknowing, he was in a literal coma, making it impossible for him to help with any of the Archive’s problems. The apocalypse was planned by the Web, embodiment of manipulation, plus all the characters contributed to the ritual succeeding in their own way. Jon’s conviction that somehow, he alone could have stopped things and so he alone should bear the burden of sacrifice to set things right is hugely egotistical, not to mention entirely false. He’s setting himself on a pedestal, holding himself to a higher standard than the people around him. It’s ironic and tragic, but it’s unavoidable given who Jon is and what he has been through.
So. If Jon is self-centered, where does that leave Martin? Well, he’s pretty much on the opposite end of the spectrum. If I wanted to be mean about it, I could say Martin considers himself to be maybe one step above worthless. And that would probably be an exaggeration, but it’s true that Martin prioritizes and considers almost everyone else before himself, and does not consider himself influential or important in any capacity. There is of course his infamous line in 198, “I didn’t really think I was important enough to kill.” There’s also the fact that Peter’s attempt to convert him to the Lonely failed explicitly because Peter placed too much importance on Martin specifically, as is revealed in 158 inside the Panopticon.
The situation with Peter in season 4 is especially notable, because as I mentioned earlier, it directly parallel’s Jon’s position in season 3 with the Unknowing. Peter has told Martin that there is an existential threat to humanity, and that he, Martin, is the only person equipped to stop it. That’s almost exactly what Elias/Jonah told Jon about the Unknowing. Unlike Jon, though, Martin rejects this. He rejects the idea that he could be important enough to save the world by himself, that he could be a “chosen one” in any capacity, and in doing so destroys Peter’s plan. And he was right! Unlike Jon, who was wrong in season 3. There’s something to be said here about how The Magnus Archives simultaneously rejects and embraces the idea of fate: there are no true “saviors”, destined to save the world, but the characters still cannot avoid the final, tragic outcome of the story. But that’s a topic for another essay. The more relevant point to make here is that despite Martin being right, he made this choice because of his low self-esteem and his tendency to de-center himself. It is once again a moment of tragic irony, that the decision Martin makes because he believes himself to be unimportant turned out to be one of the most important decisions of the whole podcast. It’s what led to Jon’s final mark, putting the last nail in the coffin of the world.
(Author’s Note: It’s interesting that despite feeling personally insignificant in the grand scheme of things, Martin’s the one who says “I think our experience of the universe has value. Even if it disappears forever.” It’s sort of like, the “everyone matters and is important except for me” outlook on life that is depressingly common. That’s not super relevant to this essay, but it makes me emotional, so I’m including it.)
Those are the most explicit examples of Martin’s low self-worth, but they are not the only ones. He spends most of the first three seasons trying to help other people, whether that’s by making tea, being a sympathetic ear, trying to play mediator, or whatever else he’s doing. He is pathologically incapable of putting himself first until season 4 at the earliest. As Alex said in the season 4 Q&A, he sets himself on fire trying to keep other people warm, and unlike Jon’s self-sacrificial tendencies in later seasons, he’s not doing it out of a misguided guilt or feeling of responsibility. He just genuinely believes other people’s wellbeing is more important than his own. This almost certainly comes from his relationship with his mother, both due to her being abusive and because he had to become her primary caretaker at a young age. He was never given space to have needs or wants of his own, so as an adult he only knows how to cater to other people’s needs and wants. It takes several years of additional trauma for him to learn how to take care of himself first.
I want to make it very clear that I’m not trying to paint Martin as some sort of soft “uwu” character, which I know some people in the fandom try and do. For starters, he’s a total bitch (affectionate). But more importantly, he’s also a very proactive character. I mean, his first introduction is him bringing supernatural parasitic worms into his workplace to prove a point, and the reason he encountered those worms is because he illegally broke into an apartment building. He willingly (well, sort of willingly) throws himself into the action – but he does so for other people, typically to protect or take care of them. It isn’t until season 4, at the height of his loneliness and depression, that he stops caring for others, and even then he doesn’t replace that with caring about himself. He just stops caring about everything altogether. Season 5 is when he finally starts expressing his own needs, after his character arc is mostly completed.
Jon and Martin’s respective egos also bleed into the way they interact and align themselves with the entities. Jon is egotistical, and Jon is an avatar of the Eye. In order to properly inspire the right kind of fear, Jon has to insert himself into experiences that aren’t remotely about him. The primary example of this is the nightmares: before giving a statement, someone might have nightmares about the experience itself, and be frightened of whatever entity was involved. After giving a statement, however, Jon, the Archivist, is inserted into those nightmares, so that now instead of being afraid of the original experience, the statement giver is afraid of being watched during that experience. The Eye, and Jon by extension (however unwillingly), has taken someone’s trauma and made itself the focal point. The center, if you will.
On the other hand, Martin’s experience with the Lonely is largely an exercise in fading away. He can make himself go somewhere else when other people are around. He’s trying to be as peripheral as possible, avoiding everyone and making sure he is not an important feature in their lives. This is most intense in episode 170, where Martin loses all sense of self in the Lonely domain that he became a victim of and all memory of who he is. I don’t know if there’s an opposite to being self-centered, but “having no self at all” is probably a strong contender.
Also, Martin is not directly Web-aligned, but he is definitely good at manipulation, which I think also comes from his tendency to center other people. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of manipulators who are self-centered, but Martin’s specific brand of manipulation mostly involves telling people what they want to hear, playing into their expectations, using their own preconceptions against them, etc. His methods all require pretty good insight into other people, and they require Martin to step out of his own head and determine what other people will expect or think. He has to de-center himself in order to effectively predict, and thus effectively manipulate, other people. And once again, this is definitely a skill he learned growing up in abusive household. I imagine he had to tell his mother what she wanted to hear a lot, in an attempt avoid the worst of her cruelty. That’s straying into the realm of headcanon though, so take it with a grain of salt. I just harbor a lot of hate for Martin’s mom, and I simultaneously love making myself hurt thinking about them, so I mention their relationship whenever I can.
Anyways. My main point is that Jon and Martin’s egos shape much of the story, and both of them contribute to the apocalypse in their own way. It’d be impossible to list all the concrete examples of this, simply because every decision they make in the podcast leads in part to the apocalypse, and each one of these decisions is informed by their respective egos. Still, I’ll try to summarize the most important moments. First of all, had Jon not believed himself solely responsible for stopping the rituals, had he rejected Elias/Jonah’s assertion that he was some kind of hero, he likely would not have played along with Jonah’s game for so long, and the apocalypse would not have happened. On the other hand, if Martin had believed Peter telling him he could be a hero, he would have joined the Lonely and ended Jonah’s plan. Going back to Jon, if he hadn’t been so insistent on taking all the blame for the trauma and death and disaster that occurs, he probably wouldn’t have been so eager to sacrifice himself. He wouldn’t have jumped into the coffin, most likely, and though this is after the apocalypse, he wouldn’t have become the Pupil (which, btw, Jon becoming the Pupil was quite literally him making himself the center of the ruined world and thus a very self-centered action) and tried to doom himself and the world. And hell, if Martin had a bit more self-esteem he might not have fallen for Jon at all! Because let’s be honest, Jon was pretty shitty to Martin for almost two years. And obviously if they hadn’t fallen in love, the whole course of the show would have been radically different, so who knows what that outcome would have been. Their personal views on their own self-importance are thus massively influential.
Before I close, I want to say this is not me condemning either Jon or Martin. They are both a product of their circumstances; they both make good and bad decisions repeatedly. I especially want to make it clear, once again, that I’m not calling Jon selfish, and I’m not calling Martin a pushover. These are two extremely complex, well-written characters, and I tried my best to acknowledge that in this essay. Also, self-centered does not equal selfish, and low self-esteem does not equal a pushover. And though the extremity of their egos are personal flaws, no character is perfect and no character should be perfect, so really I wouldn’t have it any other way.
And now for a last bit of heartache: in the end, their love for each other is what allows them to overcome their ego or lack thereof. In general, Martin prioritizes himself and his desires more than ever before in season 5, not just because of Jon. But his final decision – voting to pass the Fears to other worlds in order to save their own – was primarily motivated by a selfish desire to save Jon, a desire to build a life with the man he loved without pursued by terror-monsters. And Jon made his final decision to step down from being the final hero (or villain, depending on your perspective), to set aside his guilt and sense of responsibility, to remove himself from the center of the world, because he couldn’t bear to watch Martin die, and he couldn’t bear to doom the world with Martin still in it. It’s poetry. Terrible, tragic, heartbreakingly romantic poetry.

some thoughts about Chester/Jon, Norris/Martin and Augustus/Jonah
reasons why i think Chester, Norris and Augustus really are Jon, Martin and Jonah:
- Chester's statements: curiosity that consumes you, the magnus institute, doing something dangerous and scary because you get enjoyment from felling fear, voyeur as a film name (very subtle), all very very Jon-like
- Norris' statements: losing the person you love, the person you love is not themselves anymore, having to kill the person you love, loneliness, being left completely alone and starting to enjoy it, all very Martin-like (also mentions of jasmine, which you can make tea from. this is nothing but it amuses me)
- Augustus statements: willingly doing something at the cost of your and eventually other's wellbeing, thirst for power and doing whatever it takes to get it, the statement itself being written as a letter/will (granted these aren't the strongest connections to Jonah Magnus, but we've only heard Augustus once so I'm sure it'll be clearer when we hear more from him)
- Chester reading out the words 'a blast from the past'. i believe that Jon heard Sam saying this about the magnus institute and then chose to say it while he was in the room to attract his attention and get him to investigate further
- the voice actors are the same. this isn't really that strong of a connection, but given that Jonny and Alex are playing 'characters' whose names aren't official and could be revealed to be something/someone else is. very convenient
- we never heard Jonah Magnus' original voice, so i do believe that Augustus is him. I've seen ppl saying that Augustus is actually Leitner, but i don't think it is bcs i really don't see how he could serve the plot in any way. also his va isn't the same, and it could be true that they just decided to change it, but given that they literally decided to kill off sasha instead of tim bc her original va couldn't work with them longer, i highly doubt that's the case
- because i miss my boys and i said so
now that i convinced you that i am 100% correct and right about everything, here are my thoughts on what role they'll play in the overarching plot:
- first off, there's the question of wether or not Jon, Martin and Jonah are the ones spying on the OIAR and controlling the computers/cctv/speakers (all technology in the building basically)
- if they are, it means that them being freed is something that has to be an endgame thing, since there would be no in-universe explanation as to how we're still listening to the podcast if no one is spying on everyone. i don't think this will happen, because having characters from tma be the endgame for tmagp is kinda lame and doesn't let tmagp fully stand on its own
- there is the option of Jon being the big bad of the series/season??? which would be cool and also very tragic, seeing him finally loose the last shreds of humanity he has left, but again. having to consume a whole other piece of media in order to fully understand the first one is. very lame. i don't think they would ever do this
- the other option is them simply being trapped in whatever is actually controlling all the tech, which i think is actually the case. i think that this reality's version of the Web is the one in control (either of all the weird spying computers, or of the OIAR itself, much how the whole magnus institute was controlled by The Eye), and Jon, Martin and Jonah are trapped in it, which given how tma ended makes complete sense
- i think Jon and Martin are gonna get the Gerry Keay treatment. they're gonna show up somehow, help the characters out and explain the concept of fears to them, then they'll get killed or somehoew trapped again, or whatever other extremely tragic thing. they are way too op to become actual recurring characters of tmagp, not to mention that, again, this wouldn't really allow tmagp to stand on it's own as a story
- as for Jonah, i have absolutely no idea what his role could possibly be. i doubt he's going to be any kind of villain, but i also doubt he'd be helpful to any of the characters. this is the only thing that kinda makes me doubt that Augustus is Jonah, but i do still believe it's him, i just think it's too early to tell what his role may be
- the other alternative is that we never actually see Jon, Martin or Jonah. we get some sort of confirmation that it's them, most likely from a statement, but we never hear from them nor do the characters ever get to hear their story. honestly this would be the most tragic since Jon would become 'just another mystery' with the knowledge that he doomed another world, Martin would never get the chance to see Jon again and forever feel guilty for his death and Jonah would never get to reclaim his power or his immortality in any meaningful way
so yeah. anyway im very much invested in the mystery of tmagp and i can't wait for more info/clues

Hello I love this blog so much I am certain I'll be coming back a few times to bring receipts and thoughts more than once so I'll like to be known as 🌷/Tulip!
I think you've covered most of the heinous things both Pen stans and the passive aggressive shit Nicola has done towards RJP and Simone but I would like to remind/refresh everyone's memory as to what she did to the first co-star she had a problem with: Ruby Barker. NC's passive aggressive comments sent crazy Pen stans to leave so much hate on Ruby's IG page, it drove Ruby to being hospitalised. No wonder she spoke up against the Marina discourse after she left the show. NC has consistently shown she has a huge problem with her costars of colour who she feels threatened by of outshining her. It's super gross. This post is pretty comprehensive about what happened: https://www.tumblr.com/viscountessevie/690551093581807616/i-noticed-her-tendencies-during-the-run-up-to?source=share
The blog also gives a pretty good rundown with receipts of things Pen and Nicola antics if anyone else wants to check out their Anti-Polin tag. (Note to anyone reading the post above and their blog: This is has been shared with their permission and they wanted to let yall know that most of the links in their posts are outdated due to a username change. They are working on correcting that slowly but most of the related posts can be found on the tags or in their archives) Also to any haters who love Polin stalking this page, don't bother sending that person hate, they have anon off and you will be blocked & deleted. No one has time for shitty bullshit or wanna give yall the attention you so badly crave. Speaking of yall, the asks hoping Simone and Jonny die (from AIDS no less wtf) is why everyone hates your fandom you racist and homophobic freaks. Those who claim they aren't like them are just as bad cos they enable it and keep quiet, pretending they didn't do it or chalk it down to a 'few bad apples' 🙄  Anyway thank you again for this space OP, I'm glad you're blocking the hate now but please do take breaks if you need it and take care of yourself!!
Tulip anon!!!!
The link for anyone who doesn't want to copy/paste it.
I plan on keeping anon on but I plan on just continuing to block and delete their messages without even reading them. Not my fault they claim I'm the 'pathetic' one and then spend all this time sending me hate.
Those who claim they aren't like them are just as bad cos they enable it and keep quiet, pretending they didn't do it or chalk it down to a 'few bad apples' BOOM THERE IT IS.
I appreciate it tulip anon! I will do that if necessary but these Polin's are very unoriginal with their hate that it's just borderline laughable really.

✨Ask game!✨
5, 6, 13, 21, 27, 36, and 38 💕
Jonnie my beloved hello :D
5. Top 3 Movies
Shit fuck uhhh this changes so frequently but atm let's go with Lilo & Stitch, Into the Spiderverse, and Rise of the Guardians!
6. Top 3 TV Series
Much easier omg. Gravity Falls, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Steven Universe. (Can you tell I prefer animation)
13. Favorite Youtuber
Hoooo boy. I'd say Ranboo but he doesn't upload on YT enough to justify it I think? Sooo let's go with Sidequest! They're a fun group of guys who play co-op video games together and bring chaos every time that makes me lose it.
21. Idea of Perfect Date
...my idea of a date is so skewed because I've never been on one (at least not one that was considered a date by the other lmaooo). High key it depends on how well I know the person already! Not too well: semi-casual restaurant, maybe a movie. At least decently well (were friends beforehand): I... genuinely don't know. Kinda the same as the other ig? But more casual with like a nerdy shopping trip involved (bookstore, comic book store, etc. etc.)
27. What I Love About Myself
Dammit Jonnie not you too /lh Alright I do love the confidence I've gathered within the past two-three years. Anxiety still is very real, but I feel more comfortable in my own skin nowadays!
36. Childhood Confession
..........I used to read my collected Sonic the Hedgehog comics to my stuffed animals.
38. Favorite Quotes
OOH okay let's do a couple fun ones and a serious one
"They live and die by the meme." - Izuru Kamukura, Danganronpa 3 despair arc (it just. is ridiculously funny to me for some reason)
"When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! GET MAD! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!" - Cave Johnson, Portal 2 (iconic)
"When someone leaves your life, those exits are not made equal. Some are beautiful and poetic and satisfying. Others are abrupt and unfair. But most are just unremarkable, unintentional, and clumsy." - Griffin McElroy, The Adventure Zone (😭)

huge fan of the fact that ivankov was already making up new pronouns for herself as a kid. she self-references as ヴォレ/vore here, a modified/accented version of the masculine ore, as opposed to the ヴァタシ/vatashi (modified feminine/formal pronoun watashi) she uses in the present.
she's also using the regular masculine omae for 'you' here instead of the vanata that she uses in the present, which is an accented version of the more formal (and more commonly used by women) anata. so her particular speech style has gotten notably more feminine between this flashback and the present, but has always been distinctly silly!

after over a year of saying i wouldnt make a v5 of the chart, i got bored at 2 am and made this. this is a chart of various people who have interacted in some meaningful way (collaborated, worked on/for, starred in the same thing, mutuals on tumblr etc) to show how interconnected the world really is
the most annoying thing about these posts is people going "OP YOU FORGOT THAT [x person] INTERACTED WITH SHITTYFARTBABY AND YOUTUBER YOUVE NEVER HEARD OF" so dont do that please i'm sure you see how little space i have on here.
FAQ below . read the frequently asked questions before asking questions cause chances are i get them frequently
“this is actual sociological theory” i know, thats why i made it
“when did pat gill and penny parker interact?” episode 10 of the Badvertising podcast
"left at london and bdg?" (i know hbomberguy is here too but it would be such a pain to connect them)
Tumblr media
"left at london and neil cicierega?"
Tumblr media
"why are jonny sims and homestuck connected?" if you look closely you may find the answer is on the chart. this is because its my MOST frequently asked question so
"why did you remove someone from the chart that you had on on previous versions?" space mostly. if someone was not connecting multiple people together and/or not that interesting to include and i need more space i have cut them
NO DREAM i swear to fuck. if you come on my post talking about dream i WILL block you .

magnus fic roundup
as tma comes to a close, i thought i'd post some of my favorite fics to come out of this fandom. most of these are classics, listed in no particular order.
A Weather In The Flesh by @cuttoothed | 3K | S1-S4 | Jon/Martin | Complete
"There is a span of years where Jon doesn’t touch anyone other than the occasional hand shake. It’s not so bad. He’s never been someone who’s needed physical affection."
Jon has never been any good at making people want to stick around.
↳ this is such a well-done exploration of jon’s character and his relationship with touch, and i’ve re-read it at least five times. sweet and sad and phenomenally well-written.
in the chillest land and on the strangest sea by imperfectcircle, singlecrow | 20K | Safehouse, S1-S4 | Jon & Daisy, Jon/Martin | Complete
Jon remembers a statement he read years ago given by a Jesuit priest, who said that the shortest prayer he knew was, just, fuck it, as in fuck it; it's in God's hands. He takes Daisy's hand and trails on after her.
or; hope is a thing with feathers.
↳ hey, you wanna fuckin..... feel things? read this.
The Magnus Institute vs the 21st Century: a series of emails and IMs by shinyopals | 26K | Series | S3 | Pre-Jon/Martin | Complete
The Magnus Institute hires a Data Protection Officer. He sets about diligently booking in meetings, writing policy documents, and training all the staff in the importance of confidentiality. Now if only he could get hold of the Head Archivist, who seems to have vanished again...
(Jon is only trying to save the world, but apparently some people think he should still be doing his day job.)
↳ i’d be surprised to find people who haven’t read this series, but it’s the definition of “the magnus archives is a workplace comedy”. also, alasdair stuart has actually read some clips of this on Twitch, so that’s a fun bonus.
Bell, Book, and Candle by yellow_caballero | 102K | Series | S3 into S4 | Jon/Martin | Complete
In accordance with the Ride or Die Pact of 2009, Jonathan Sims can call upon Georgie Barker at any time for aid with no strings attached. Despite their rocky history, their childhood friendship, and Jon’s barely recovered alcoholism, this pact is sacred and must be upheld.
Georgie Barker may regret this. She may regret it when she discovers that the world is full of monsters and eldritch gods and dickhead managers. She may regret it when a punk rocker who should be dead collapses on their doorstep, a teenager again who needs their help. She may regret it when her stupid ex-boyfriend starts selling his soul for knowledge and the ability to keep his new family safe.
But she probably won’t. Georgie isn’t scared of anything - not a Clown’s apocalypse, not the apocalypse that Jon is destined to begin, and not Jon’s own loss of humanity.
Maybe she should be.
↳ if you’re looking for an everyone-lives-no-one-dies-happy-ending fic that also happens to be massively chaotic, look no further.
The Reverb in These Holy Halls by @wolftraps | 98K | AU, S1-S4 | Jon/Martin | Complete
Undoing the apocalypse would have been enough for Jon, if all his people survived. Without them, Jon's only recourse is making it so it never happened in the first place. He's going to do better this time.
↳ quintessential time travel AUs. plot-wise, i feel like these can be difficult to write, but op does a fantastic job of tying things together in a way that makes sense. plus, it’s just fun to read.
jon sims v the nhs by @thoughtsbubble | 12K | Series | S3 | Complete
Joan Bright has a new patient. He's carrying an old tape recorder and is covered head to toe in scars. Jonathan Sims looks dangerous, but Dr Bright has dealt with all sorts of atypical individuals. She has no reason to be nervous.
Right?
↳ if you’ve ever thought “hey, jon should probably go to therapy”, then 1) you’re absolutely right and 2) this is... probably what would’ve happened. prior knowledge of The Bright Sessions is not required. also, apparently, this fic is written by the showrunner of The Underwood Collection? wild.
Family, Found by Dribbledscribbles | 9K | S4 | Complete
It’s Basira who catches onto it.
The collective shift that seems to come over them when heading in or out of the Institute. Not just the oppressive sensation of being observed, their every move catalogued for the voyeuristic cravings of some unseen Eye(s). That feeling remained with them even when they left the Institute these days, but it was always stronger inside its walls. That wasn’t the change. Nor was it the point.
The point was: making life worse for Jonathan Sims.
↳ i think being part of the avengers fandom circa 2012 has given me permanent found-family-trope brainrot, but you know what. jonathan sims can have a little happiness, as a treat.
Road to Damascus by @titanfalling | 107K | Series | S4 | Jon & Tim | Complete
n. an important moment of insight, typically one that leads to a dramatic transformation of attitude or belief
Or, in which Tim becomes an avatar for the end of all things.
↳ tim dies and then he doesn’t. there is catharsis and world building. just....read it.
Come, Change Your Ring With Me by @backofthebookshelf | 29K | S3 | Peter/Jon, Jon/Martin, Peter/Elias | Complete
The Lukases demand the Archivist marry into the family, and the Institute relies on them too much to say no. Peter is smug. Elias is fuming. Martin is suffering. Jon thinks this might be tolerable if only Peter would hurry up and leave him alone already.
OR, the soap opera we call an Archives revolves around Peter Lukas this time.
↳ superb evil-bastards-in-love content, feat. martin pining, tim being obnoxious, and jon being... well, tired, mostly. i will literally never get tired of how op writes peter.
creatures that i briefly move along by @dotsayers | 16K | Series | AU, Post-S4 | background Jon/Martin
Mr Sims was so weird, was the thing. Miss Grant always said calling people weird was rude, and Anna sort of agreed, but she didn’t know what other word to use to describe Mr Sims.
He’d only been in with the class for a few days, really, and half of that he just sat at the back listening, but that didn’t stop her from making a swift judgement. 5BG had had student teachers before, back when they were 3ST, and they’d been uniformly normal.
Mr Sims was… actually, Anna had a better adjective. He was interesting.
↳ i just.... love teacher!jon fics. this series delivers.
Once Bitten by @apatheticbutterflies | 1K | S4 | Jon & Daisy | Complete
Jon Sims has always been a jumpy kind of guy. Nervous. Twitchy. Daisy used to think it meant he was guilty. Turns out he was. Just not of what she’d thought.
Daisy learns how to peel an orange.
↳ daisy and jon’s relationship is an example of an instance where i’m happy to say “fuck what you wrote mr. jonny ‘chocolate torte of tragedy’ sims, i want them to be friends”.
pins and needles by mutterandmumble | 13K | S1-S4 | Complete
He’s got a reputation to uphold anyways; an uptight, rigid reputation that dictates the way that he interacts and functions and is such an integral part of him that he can’t let go of it anytime soon. He likes his safety nets. He likes his contingencies. He likes his privacy, and everything around this place right down to the walls seems to have ears, so he’ll stay tight-lipped up to and beyond the threat of death.
He’s good at that.
In which Jon takes up embroidery and bumbles through life the best that he can.
↳ out of all the introspective jon pieces i’ve read (and there are many), this one stands out. maybe it’s the symbolism or the characterisation, or maybe it’s the fact that i have an embroidery kit lurking in the back of my closet along with a hundred other half-pursued hyperfixations. whatever. this is excellent.
sleeping in by @ivelostmyspectacles | 5K | S2 | Jon/Tim | Complete
“Who are you trying to convince?”
Jon gives up, letting his head sag against Tim’s shoulder. “I don’t know.”
aka Elias gets tired of Jon and Tim's bickering, sends them away for a "team-building" weekend trip, and is sure to book them a room with only one bed
↳ this has everything you’d need from a “oh no there’s only one bed” fic. someone please get these men therapy.
if you try, sometimes (you get what you knead) by @ajcrawly | 3.5K | S1-S4 | Jon/Martin, Tim/Sasha | Complete
It starts with an abundance of boeuf bourguignon and ends up as a team tradition.
Food and love in uncertain times.
↳ more found family fic, this time with a diverse og!archival staff and food as a metaphor for love. hurt in all the right ways. made me hungry in the process.
