Hi! It's been a while!
I haven't posted something like this in a long time, but with The Bad Batch now being over, I wanted to talk about a few things.
I was in a bad space in life when the bad batch came out, I was extremely depressed and unsure of what I would end up doing. But when this show came out, I found comfort in it. I remember staying up late to watch the show at release, I remember going through a roller-coaster of emotions with every action packed and drama filled episodes, I remember laughing at the antics that these clones got into... I remember looking forward every week to see what this squad would do, and because of that, it gave me a purpose to see what I wanted to do for my own life. If these clones can do something, then so can I!
I found my passion and love for animals, wanting to care for them in a medical environment. I started as a simple kennel technician, to a certified veterinarian assistant, and now? Now I'm getting ready to go back to school to become a licensed veterinary technician!! And I have to say, it was thanks to this show that gave me a purpose to find a future for myself.
I met so many amazing people through this show, life long friends, bonding over this show and star wars in general. I was introduced to many artist and writers who brought more life to this show.
To everyone who happens to pass by this post, who is drying their tears after the finale, who is afraid of what the future might bring... Just remember, that if clone force 99 can have a peaceful future, then so can you. It's our turn to find our place in this large galaxy.

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you!
I first saw your centipede posts months ago and was enthralled with these little guys off the bat. After a ton to research on all things centipede and the encouragement of a close friend, I decided to get my first centipede about a month ago and so far it going great! I absolutely love him/her/them with all my heart and am constantly fascinated with their behavior and habits.
I also work in veterinary medicine as a licensed technician (and am in school working on my undergrad degree to hopefully become a doctor of veterinary medicine someday) and would love to be able to one day provide care for more exotic animals including invertebrates. Thank you for igniting a passion for learning more about inverts. ❤️🪲🪱🦂🦗
Tumblr media
while I’m happy that you did your research, bought a captive bred (or at least CH) specimen, and enjoy your centipede (which is more than most people do) this still made me a bit sad to hear because I don’t want my posts to encourage keeping centipedes without breeding them.
I don’t mean to single you out specifically, especially since you seem like a very responsible keeper, so speaking in general to everybody I really wish more centipedes were captive bred, and that includes breeding specimens which are themselves CBB. I see this a lot with the biggest, fanciest, rarest mantises, amblypygi, and centipedes: wild or first generation CBB end up being single “trophy pets” that are not bred (either keeper can’t find more, or isn’t interested) and therefore just take away from the hobby rather than adding to a stable captive population.
in the case of South American giant Scolopendra like your galapagoensis, captive breeding can be serious because they have very short lifespans: about ~5 years is what I hear from other keepers, and females have only one large clutch in their lives because she dies for her offspring to consume. fortunately their size, rarity, and the beefy price tag that accompanies those traits make them a species breeders are willing to produce these days, but even then there can’t be more than a handful of breeding adults with a fairly limited gene pool.
it’s probably even worse for species like S. polymorpha and S. dehaani which are only wild caught and almost never intentionally captive bred. these are the “cheap” centipedes in the US, with polys being caught in the southwest deserts and dehaani being imported in bulk from Vietnam. these are the species novice keepers get, and never breed, and that continues to fuel demand for collection. there isn’t any data on how collection impacts wild populations but in my opinion collection is never necessary when captive breeding is possible (even if it can be tedious in centipedes).
anyway, I hope I did not come off as attacking you—you are more responsible than most, and I’m sure your centipede will have a good life. but I feel very guilty when I hear “I love your posts so I got myself a centipede!” because that centipede is so rarely captive bred, and even if it is, it probably won’t ever get to contribute diversity to the captive population.
I’d started keeping Scolopendra myself with the intent to breed and support captive populations, and a combination of naivety and bad luck meant almost all of my centipede projects failed. I have no plans to breed centipedes for at least several more years. a majority of the videos I post are fairly old, and I only have a handful of centipedes remaining. I often wonder if I should just stop posting about anything scolo-related because I don’t really want to inspire others to keep centipedes if they’re not going to breed them. I do not think this is exaggeration or “gatekeeping” because not breeding animals is how they become imperiled in the wild and extinct in captivity at the same time (many tarantulas and reptiles have experienced this). to me, indirectly supporting that outweighs what I’m actually trying to do—inspire people to stop being scared and enjoy arthropods, in captivity or in the wild.
anyway, I’m sorry to write all of this up under your ask but I’m not sure where else it makes sense to say. good luck with your galap & I hope its next molt goes well

Same anon: California SB 1459 - "(2) Existing law makes it a misdemeanor to willfully abandon any animal, except as provided. This bill would create an exception to the above-described crime for animals released by a licensed veterinarian or veterinary technician if the release is pursuant to a program of trapping, neutering, and releasing feral or stray cats." I apologize for the oversimplification in saying it "exempts cats" as technically it specifies TNR programs, so I should have said "exempts feral or stray cats."
Ooh I see, thank you for the clarification! Do you know which groups specifically are lobbying for this? (No worries if you're not comfortable sharing, I'm just curious!) And no worries about the simplification, there are only so many characters in an ask box haha.
I still definitely think it is odd to exempt feral/stray cats, even if it is for the purpose of TNR. In my experience and by what I've heard, fully adoptable cats are often encouraged to be released to the streets because there is an ongoing TNR/"community cat" program in the area. My local animal control won't even take in cats unless they're dying or dead. This would just encourage that. Sure it keeps cats out of shelters, but it also keeps friendly cats out of homes, too.

I'm not on here very often anymore, but here's another life update: I got into LVT (licensed veterinary technician) school! It's a very selective program (at least in my state, it's very difficult to get into LVT school) that only accepts 22 students a year. It's a 2 year long program, and I'll sit for my VTNE licensing exam in late 2025. I'm incredibly excited. I've been in the vet field for 4 years now, and 3 years at my current hospital. I feel like I'm finally able to get my career moving, and I'll be able to actually have options, and with way the wages in my state are going, there's a good chance I'll be able to make $25-$30 an hour when I finish school -- especially since I'm paying my way with my life savings, have another associate degree as a back up, and have no student loan debt. So yay! I'm very happy. Follow me on my workblr @jelliclevettechstudent for sporadic updates on that.

Addressing Response to Customer Difficulties: Starting Point
What are the common problems encountered by CMU students nowadays?
In this journal, you will learn about our journey of finding problems and how we were able to come up with this particular product in order to achieve a more efficient and productive academic life for college students.
The first thing we did during the first week was to create a plan on how we will conduct our interview and how many prospective people we need including the college they should be from. The team agreed on making interviews by pair; one person will do the asking while the other will do the documentation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After some interviews, we gathered all the information and shared it together with other members.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After giving it some thought, we took notes of the problems raised and created possible solutions to each of them. The next day, we interviewed another group of people for further investigation. The following is the summarization of the data gathered from respondents.
Data Gathered:
• 2Males (From Agriculture) - Problem: Garbage’s on Agriculture Benches
• 1 male (From CAS) - Problem: Lack of trash bins & sometimes no water on Comfort Rooms
• 1 Female (From CFES) - Problem: CMU market is too far printings
• 1 Female (From CBM) - Problem: CMU market is too far school supplies
• 2 Females (Graduate Students) -Problem: Financial problem
• 1 Female (Veterinary Medicine) - Problem: CMU market is too far printing
• 1 Female (Education) -Problem: Slow internet
• 5 Females (CAS, Psychology) -Problem: Lack of benches
A total of 14 customers are interviewed. And then we all gathered together to brainstorm and discuss our possible plans.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
In consideration of the data’s we have gathered while conducting interviews, we noticed that there was diverse array of problems from our customers' answers. The group decided to formulate possible solutions to the problems while also considering the opportunity to profit. The most significant one was financial problems, our chosen solution for this was to construct or create a platform for a marketplace where we will play the role of a broker. It aims to give opportunities for students to:
1. Dispose of their old possessions through selling second-hand items (books, print-outs, yoga mats, swimsuits, etc.) 2. Allows them to buy items at a lesser price. 3. Easy access for available boarding houses in the area.
However, it requires a lot of estimations and assumptions and we found out that CMU already has an online marketplace.
Another best alternative we are able to formulate was the solution to the distance of the CMU market in regards to printing services. We came up with the decision to choose the printing problems to be addressed. After considering other variables, the team has made an idea of providing a self-service, coin-generated, Vendo printing machine rather than using a regular printer which needs someone to operate and provide assistance for all the time. It is super convenient and can be less hassle since we only need to provide maintenance for it once in a while. For that cause, we did research if this product is available in the market or is yet to be created.
To find out that it is currently unavailable in the local market, we are advised to manufacture the product ourselves, because formulating it on our own and managing its service function would dampen the fixed cost, causing us to hardly match the value of the product in the value the customers can afford to give which can dampen the possibility of profitability. With that in plan, we established steps to properly manufacture the product and as to where we will market it.
The group formulated the following measures:
• Collaborate with people with expertise in the making of the product (IT technicians/ Engineers) • Interview experts as to the costs of manufacture, the processes and licenses needed to manufacture the product. • Have the estimation as to the possibility of profitability or determine the economic value of the product in a certain point of time. • Make a model or prototype of the product, as to the process of using it • Devise a clear plan on whom to sell the product.
To sum up, working with other institutions to create a clear plan for marketing your product might be a smart step to access new markets, make use of pooled resources, and ultimately succeed more in the education industry. Our teamwork leads to productivity, innovation, decision-making, communication and personla growth, while also fostering strong relationships among team members.

i've been avoiding looking up any info on how to become a certified veterinary technician in oregon because after passing my national & state board exams i never paid the $300 or whatever to actually get my license in arizona, not because i couldn't afford it but because i was tired. my mental health was complete shit & after 2 years of school & 2 really really intense ER internships, i couldn't do anything else. i wanted to just get the move over with & take a break. then covid happened & the break ended up being 3 years.
anyway, i don't know who to talk to about getting started again (maybe faculty at a local vet tech college program could help me?) but i THINK, from the looks of it, i'd just need to have my school transcript & VTNE (national board exam) score sent to oregon's accreditation board, then take the open-book state test for $75, & i should be on track to CVT certification. that could be a good goal for this year, depending on timing.

Summary:
Humans are weird and are never satisfied with what they already have. They have to alter everything around them to make their own lives more convenient. Including other lifeforms. For example, people tampered with genetics to make fish that glow in the dark. Why? For no other reason than they thought they would make radical pets. As technology advanced, people moved from tampering with simple genetics to tampering with soul energy itself. Thus, Bitties were created: Tiny skeleton creatures powered by soul energy. And of course, almost immediately, they too were patented and sold as “pets.” But being simple things made only of bones and souls, could they really be considered alive? What does it even mean to be alive? What is a soul? You really didn’t want to think about such headache-inducing existential questions. All you wanted to do was earn enough to go to school, get your veterinary technician license, and live a simple and happy existence. But life had other plans for you in the form of an angry little creature staring you down from the confines of a jar. What the hell?
