people are discoursing about the laios and shiro fight bc that was always going to happen but i do hope that wave crests quickly and we can all come to see it as what it is: literally one of the best written fights between two people who are both entirely justified in their actions and acting without any malice or cruelty of all time
#theres a tendency - especially in action and faction based media (which a lot of fantasy is or is in dialogue with) - to depict fights only#as happening between someone who Is Right and someone who Is Wrong#and getting to see a full on beatdown between two dudes who are both acting in an entirely understandible way and who both dont actually#want to hurt the other at all - to the extent where their desire to maintain a positive relationship with each other is the SOURCE of their#conflict in the first place - is just so cathartic to see#like unpopular opinion but sometimes you do just need to Fight someone to work through issues youre having#like irl i would not recommend that extent of Force obviously#but if you're two people in a situation where neither has active power over the other sometimes the healthiest option involves expressing#and receiving genuine anger that is not filtered through a social buffer#like sometimes you just need to yell that someone is pissing you off by how much they invade ur time and space and sometimes you need to#yell that someone is sabotaging your ability to interact with them by not expressing any discomfort with your behaviour ever#AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO BE YELLED AT#BECAUSE it sucks. it sucks to experience and until you can both share that space of feeling awful with each other youre not gonna get past#it and you're not gonna understand each other's pain#i think they're both wonderfully well written characters and its a testament to their depth as people that i can so easily understand why#and how both of them are behaving the way they do#im still only like halfway through the manga but it is like my favourite character interaction scene so far#fred says a thing#dunmeshi

I'm against headcanoning Percy as transmasc because it's disrespectful to Percy's character and offensive in general because Percy is a transFEM character.Within canon she was intended as a cis male, yes, but one that defies traditional manhood regularly by not being masculine in presentation, behavior or tastes and is textually a misandrist who thinks guys who ARE hypermasculine are gross creepy losers and frequently genuinely wonders what other girls see in them as a contrast to how enamored most female characters are with them for it and that's how a lot irl transfems are with dudes be they attracted to men or not but back on topic,Percy is 1.Justified in this mentality because almost every man she's met has been horrible to her(deadbeat birthdad, abusive stepdad, mostly male bullies, the first older male figure in her life she thought was good was a serial pedophile and fascist who groomed the kids she went to summer camp with into his soldiers and tons of male deities are really cruel to her and even innapropriate to an extent)and 2.Validated in it explicitly in TTC with the Zoe,Hunters of Artemis and Hercules subplot where she proves herself as being totally different from cis men and the 'exception' to how greek 'men' are rather than the rule. This applies to her human side too as she's nothing like stereotypical human boys either and this is constantly aknowledged and commented on and framed as what makes her the best hero in the franchise and most worthy of our protagonist
Percy also loves and respects women and considers them inherently better than men because they're women and says this in her narration tons of times and shows a big implied preference for either gender neutrality or strong femininity on herself too as she complains about having to present as extra male but never protests to girlyness and actually actively likes it.She shows (gender) envy to fem characters often and there's even a moment where she compares her relathionship with Nico to her acting like his mom-Not parental, she said she 'sounded like [my] mother'.There's some misc things also thrown in there that aren't solid proof but do help things come together like how sea motifs have so much femininity combined with 'The sea does not like to be restrained' and her blue obsession which is a 'boy' color but came from her mom and her being a punk with streaked hair and a love for burgers(haha)and eldest daughter and overall,Percy's so obviously wants to and should be a trans woman because it improves the story and would maker her way happier than being forced to live as a genderconforming binary man
Obviously Percy can be a femme man but that dosen't mean she can't be transfem too since i personally headcanon her as bigender with she/he/they/a hoard of neos pronouns pretty often and transmasc Percy/'positive and healthy and soft masculinity' Percy just dosen't.........do good for Percy's character and weakens it if anything because it dosen't suit her and goes DIRECTLY against who she is and turns her into something she's not i.e a normal man.Percy shouldn't have to be forced to be normal because to begin with, she's representation for neurodivergent people who're outcasts even amongst a lot of other neurodivergent people and it's just mean-spirited to us,'us' being audhd people and trans femmes both transmasc and transfeminine.Pjo fans who headcanon Percy as transmasc have a LOT of overlap with trans guys who say cruel things about femme tboys and he/him femmes regardless of specific orientation and gender and their transmisogyny i've seen so often is appalling
One time i tried to explain to a person who called TTC 'Percy Jackson and the Ra.dical Feminists' in their post that kept getting recommended to me was offensive because the Hunters are male explotation victims in-universe and in the og myths were a lesbian metaphor/slang for lesbians and Thalia's extremely tgirl-coded and even showed them the tweet by Rick where someone asked if they accept trans girls and he said yes and they tried to lecture me by saying ra.dfem has multiple meanings and that they meant 'misandrists' and tried to do a gotcha by saying i've hated on tboy Percy in the past even though I'M a tboy and they aren't and they were a fucking Apollo stan. This always happens, nobody who dosen't see transfem Percy understands the actual messages of the series or questions the bad ones or gives Percy her actual personality and story. And why is that?Because Percy IS transFEM and you need to overhaul her entierly to make her tme.Which is absolutely awful to do because she's the perfect character and the best role model neurodivergent kids could ever ask for.Transfems and trans femmes deserve Percy.Percy deserves to be herself too.Instead of what normie cyberbullies want her to be

fic rec and review: trust your heart if the seas catch fire (taehyung/jungkook)
author: maxx link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/4382348 ship: taehyung/jungkook rating: not specified but i would say like nc16 HAHA i know that's not the way books are rated but i forgot how to do it so LOL type: slow burn; alternate universe; angst (to some extent); unrequited love words: 131, 734 summary: "Sometimes I wonder whether you'd be better off without me. Whether you really need me at all." Taehyung has always doubted his necessity to the group, as well as to Jungkook. Usually a knock on the head would suffice to bring him back to his senses. But this time, it seems someone was listening to his request. Now, everything has changed. He's in a world where Jungkook and the rest of the group are still famous, but he isn't. my review: holy moley of all that's alive (that makes no sense BUT IDC) this book was one of the best fanfic i've read so far GURLL i'm crying. ok but to review this book: let's break it down, shall we? firstly, the plot. OH shit it gets goooooood. so without any spoilers, it's basically about how taehyung feels like he's not needed by bts and by jungkook (whom he's in love with, and it's kindof unrequited, i say kindof because it's a bit complicated LOLZ), and he feels very burdensome. he has a bunch of these negative thoughts plaguing him at all times about how he's just very extra (this actlly made me pretty :-( because i realized that even tho the members are really happy and shit all the time in front of us fans, they probably have a lot of these negative thoughts too???? bc expectations and shit???? sighz) everywhere. and as a result BAM some higher power rushes in and BAM shoves him into a parallel universe DUN DUN DUN! in said parallel universe, taehyung finds himself basically being a common peasant, and uncovers that in this world, he's never been a part of bts and he's never even met them before. this makes him go on a magical adventure to force his friendship upon them (it's not actlly magical guys, this isn't a harry potter au) and that's what most of the book is about. however, as this happens, he also starts to realize that perhaps this world isn't as amazing as it seems to be, and finds himself wishing to return to his own world. as we go further into the book, WOWZA we stumble upon another narrative, this time in the perspective of taehyung-from-the-parallel-universe who's found himself thrown into the original universe. so obviously he's like DEFEK when he wakes up in a new world and finds out that he's now a part of bts! so then we follow him as he kindof tries to figure out his way around that world. there's a lot more cool shit that happens, honestly, but i can't say more without spoiling it? i'm already a bit concerned that i'm teetering on the edge of spoilers with the little run-through i've provided here so HAHAHA idk i tried y'all. so ya, this is a really cool plot and sure, it might not seem all that original, like it's just a universe switch-up but i feel like the author really took up this somewhat cliche idea in an original manner and incorporated it into her book? if that makes any sense whatsoever. however, for plot, i think plot movement also plays a large deal and one thing i didn't enjoy as much was the way the book dragged at some points. i think some people might enjoy it because more material to read and on days where i'm feeling particularly trashy I LOVE IT AS WELL but alas, i was reading this while procrastinating studying for my exams so the extra content was not that fun for me. but i felt that the plot started to move along much better as we neared the last quarter of the book so yay! plot: 7/10 secondly, characterization! from the bottom of my teeny heart, i felt like this book REALLY captured the bts members' characters well! this is hard to do without spoiling anything LOL but it's very easy to see the little quirks that the guys have irl be reflected in the book. e.g. biggest example is probably jin, who acts as a confidante for taehyung in the book several times and i feel like he's that kinda person irl too which is really cooL and i liked that!! taehyung's character is also very excitable, spontaneous as all hell (to an extent that screw him over sometimes) and a very, very sweet human BEAN. and for me, characterization is pretty important because i don't like reading fics where the characters are shallow af and it wouldn't make a difference if you were to replace them with a carrot. i think the character arc was really wonderful as well, it was really cool seeing how the people in the story changed as they experienced the events that they did and GAHHHHH IT WAS BEEAUTIFUL I WAS Tearing up forrealz characterization: 7/10 next, we move onto the quality of writing/writing style! this plays A HUGE role in me enjoying a book because i like my fics to have on point茅 english and a way of writing that pulls me into the universe and doesn't let me leave. and gosh, this writer did not disappoint. ah, their writing was genuinely so fluid and expressive; good structure, grammar and vocabulary. loved it. (i don't really know what to elaborate on in this section so i'm just leaving it like this lmaoz) quality of writing: 8/10 not quite sure what else i should add to this review so i'll leave my first ever review at that and say that overall, this was a pretty damn good book, highly recommend everyone to read eSPECIally all u taekook shippers HAHAHA hope u liked reading my review and that i didn't sound obnoxious AF (or pretentious or some shit, i just wanted to share my opinions lel). this was also a super long review and idk if people even give enough of a shit to read this so maybe i should just write super short ones that r like mad summarized to 2 lines HAHAH i'll see what happens. have a nice day, people! :)
