When speaking about the Oracles of Apollo, we often just mention the most famous oracle of Delphi with its Pythia or the oracle of Phocis with the Mount Parnassus nearby. However, Apollonian cults across the Ancient Mediterranean had not one or two, but more oracles out of which some major ones are: Delphi, Didyma, Hierapolis, and more - they were scattered across Mainland Greece and Asia Minor.
The oracle of the Ancient Didyma is one of these major sites that has had just as interesting of a history of divinatory practices as any other one of Apollo’s oracles.
Oracle of Didyma, first properly mentioned in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo, is a sanctuary located in the town Didim of Ancient Anatolia, Asia Minor (current Turkey), now formally known as Yenihisar. The name of the place is of unclear origin: some researchers suggested Greek origins, seeing that dydimos means “twin” and the association with Apollo and Artemis is obvious, but Artemis’ cult of Didyma had no connections nor mirroring of that of Apollo. Others suggested Zeus as the “partner” God of Apollo at the site - but we have so far found no evidence of there being a Zeus Didymos cult at any point of Ancient cultic activity. Fontenrose suggested that the name must be Carian (Anatolian language) and go along with other Anatolian place names: Sydima, Idyma, Loryma, Kibyma, and such.
The earliest archaeological finds so far discovered at the location site date the cult back to the 8th century BCE, possibly following the Ionian conquest over these Carian lands. The earliest dated pieces of pottery found in Didyma link us back to the 14th century BCE and the Mycenean civilization. Ancient writers, such as Pausanius, claim that the oracle has operated since the 11th century BCE, long before the Ionic invasion, but we are yet to find evidence to back up that claim. As of current, the city-sanctuary is attested to the Ionian cult of Apollo and is located around 10 kilometers South from the city of Miletus.
Tumblr media
While the structural identity of the temple is incredibly interesting and doubles the temple at Delphi in a lot, I will only mention some peculiarities that the Didyma temple of Apollo had: a temenos (a protective wall around a sacred place), a stoas (freestanding surrounding collonade), a circular altar, a naiskos (small inner altar with a pediment), a chresmographeion (office of the oracle), and a sacred well preceding the temple.
Interestingly enough, the temple of Apollo at Didyma, as many scholars agree, was likely built with the aim to create an underground adyton, or inner shrine. Archaeological research and astronomical events observed at the site show that the sanctuary, built slightly differently from other Apollonian oracles in terms of its stellar orientation, was probably meant to face the rising of the constellation of Lyra.
It is possible that the temple was unroofed in both Archaic and Hellenistic age, when the building went through major rebuilding. Interestingly enough, the site of Didyma had musical and drama contests held annually but lacked a theater or an odeion.
Tumblr media
The oracle of Didyma, though at first one of the two most popular oracular sites in Asia Minor, has seemingly gone through a decline after the destruction of the temple by Persians in the 5th century BCE. It has been through an uprising in the Hellenistic era with a following decline as Christianity spread, rendering the temple and the oracle unused as late as 3rd century AD.
Unfortunately, the information on the divinatory practices at the site of Didyma is not as well preserved as the information at other sites, such as the oracle of Delphi. We do know that the temple had a priest or a priestess to deliver versed prophecies - the gender of the deliverer of prophecies, through, is unknown.
Generally, there are two main types of divination that have been attested as used at the Didyma temple: mantic trance and cleromancy
Tumblr media
We do not know enough to state anything on the divinatory process involving mantic trance at the site during the Archaic age, as all evidence so far has been inconclusive. However, there are surviving inscriptions and writings that show the form of divinatory delivery as used at the site in the post-Archaic period, after the renown revival of the temple by Alexander the Great. The oracle, whether a man or a woman, delivered the prophecies likely directly in form of a dactylic hexameter. Some researches supposed that every Apollonian oracle worked this way, though we do know that some of them were specific about the gender of the oracle - not Didyma.
Perhaps the latter has something to do with the legendary hoi Branchidae, priests tending to the temple of Apollo at Didyma; said to root from Branchus, the God’s old lover.
The oracle of Delphi, a site that, according to geological investigations, likely did have a chasm under the bedrock that could indeed leak vapors into the room of the temple, is different from the oracle at Didyma as the Anatolian temple lacks same volcanic geology. It is thus unclear if the oracle of Didyma fell into mantic trance as it is at all or perhaps used different methods of entering it.
In fact, it is still unclear whether the very concept of a mantic trance was that prevailing over other divinatory types. The requests for the Pythia were, for example, so constant that other types of divinatory practices were constantly used at Delphi. As for Didyma, there is another divinatory method that researchers have so far found evidence of being used.
Tumblr media
Astragali, the animal bone knucklebones, have been found across all divinatory centers of the Ancient world. Traditionally made out of bones of ugulates (pigs, sheep, goats, etc.) those lots had numerical significance as they were split into named groups and attested numbers each. It is unclear why specific animals only were used for making astragali, though there’s been stastical research that showed certain bones of certain animals, when shaped correctly, gives better, more equal results when thrown as dice.
As a divinatory tool, astragali possessed a degree of uncertainty to them as they could be modified to change the outcome of the draw; however, some researchers state it was believed that the seemingly random outcome of the draw ensured the diviner bears no influence on the outcome of said draw.
Astragali are sometimes believed to be secondary to oracular advice, and this assumption is based on a few factors. Seeking out oracular help included involving oneself into an expensive and time-consuming procedure that included sacrificing a whole sheep or goat, buying a honey cake for an offering, and going through an extensive consultation; that, combined with how rarely oracles of Delphi, Didyma, and other sites spoke added on to the subjective higher validity of the process, though there’s no proof one way of divination had an actual “better” effect on the results received than the other.
Ancient Anatolia has known divination by what later was called astragali from as long ago as the Copper Age (5,000 - 3,000 BCE) with prominence in the Anatolian city of Alisar, modern Turkey. Middle Bronze Age (2,100 - 1,550 BCE) and Late Bronze Age (1,550 - 1,200 BCE) dated finds of astrogali near Aphrodisias, Turkey, and Beycesultan neared the location of Didyma, pointing out the possible usage of the knucklebones at the site, too. Local Hittites have used astragali as oracular devices since the 14th century BCE, and the tradition seemed to continue on until it changed somewhere between Bronze and Iron age.
The Archaic finds in Ancient Anatolia point out that the usage of astragali has been quite consistent both in the temple to Apollo and the temple to Artemis in Ephesus alongside its use in different local sancturies. The knucklebones found were made out of wood, bones, and sometimes glass - inscribed, clear, and modified alike. Most of the astragali found at the site of Didyma were modified by lead, thus heavy, and had inscriptions on them that point out that the knucklebones bore messages to the inquirer.
Tumblr media
One of the most fascinating parts about the history of divination at the site of Archaic Didyma is that the delivery of responses from the Deity was, apparently, direct - not a very common happening across the Greek Apollonian temples. Usually, the delivery would be done through a medium though inscriptions from Didyma use third (”the God said...) and first (”I said...”) person to describe messages given by, apparently, Apollo. Herodotus marks an event where the men of Kyme asked the oracle for advice and, after receiving a dissatisfactory reply, have continued to ask across other oracles of the region, eventually growing angry and disturbing the birds nesting in the walls of one of the temples. That, according to the historian, angered the God enough to speak to the intruders directly and request to never come back. Whether true or not, this does show that at Didyma, the belief persisted that Apollo could deliver messages personally and directly.
Another inscription found at Didyma also points out that the God spoke to the prophet directly; Delphic and Lebadeian oracles occasionally spoke spontaneous utterances directly to the oracles, too. However, the incident of a God speaking to a mortal directly is still a rarity in Ancient Greek worldview.

Hello!!! I’m here to inquire about Aaliyah and Link’s full story as I can’t seem to find it in your Masterlist. If that’s ok? If it’s private and you just wanna just give out tidbits then that’s completely ok!!! I started reading your joint fic constellation and I’m hooked on it and the characters!!! I already went and asked about part four lol!
omgomgomgomgomgomgomg- OKAY I'VE REHEARSED FOR THIS-
I'm so glad you asked!
So, I did release one written portion already -> Here!
But! Im gonna be so real with you guys, I forgot I did it and have not worked on it at all fnofnf
I love answering questions about my girl so ask away! I'm also so glad you like constellations it has my heart fr. Part four is...on its way but with Kinktober and our adult lives (I'm a full time student and Bailey has a big girl job) it kinda got pushed back (And we're in our trigun eras). But it has been started!
So, let's talk about Aaliyah and Sage.
Their story starts in the Pre-Calamity era. Sage is still a knight, however, Aaliyah is now there too! She's a bastard child born out of wedlock to the village of Kakariko-- who take the phrase it takes a village a little too literally.
From very early in her life, Aaliyah is proclaimed the Sheikah Champion and spends her life training for this role. She learns ancient magic regarding rune extraction and usage (Basically how Impa fights in AOC) and in ancient swordsmanship.
She's taken to the castle with Purah and Impa and from there meets the other champions.
Her and Link didn't actually like each other all that much from the start? They were incredibly weary and on edge when the other was around bc of the other's skill set and how they could be an obvious threat to their current missions (Either protecting Zelda or staying with Impa).
Aaliyah actually made friends with Revali pretty easily because she wasn't gifted with this great courage or wisdom or any abilities. It was something she earned and worked incredibly hard to harness, like Revali's gale So they spent their free time talking shit about Link and the other champions in the garden for a while.
Link and Aaliyah only really started getting to know each other after a spar in the garden. Link kicked her ass, make no doubts about it (Lore accurate Link? Are you kidding? Aaliyah never stood a chance.), but after hearing her get her ass chewed out by Impa he bashfully offered a kind shoulder.
The thing about them that I LOVE incorporating into their story is that before they died? These two were honestly so adorable. In my head. But im giving you guess my head lore rn.
Like Aaliyah is the smart one out of them, okay? Let me set this straight. So, she knows things like sign language. So when she mindlessly does a wave of her hand to curse off a noble without them knowing? And Link, who ALSO knows sign language sees this?
OMFG- he chokes on his spit. And she looks over and just flushes this bright red, but has this shy little smile on her face because, 'hey, this guy isn't so bad?'.
Or Link just laying his head in her lap and letting her braid flowers into his hair while they sit in silence or he reads to her??
Or Aaliyah just sitting on a rock, pretending to be writing her daily prayers, but is really watching Link practice his swordsmanship with Fi?
They were that kind of cute.
ANYWAY-
So, in Eye of the Storm, I go into further depth onto how Aaliyah died-- protecting Link and Zelda.
If you haven't read it, heres the run down. They get surrounded by Yiga, and she dies because she sends Link and Zelda back with the slate, acting as a distraction so they have the time to leave.
Demon carver carves her ass.
Link watches, duh, because A) I needed him to have that trauma to form their relationship a little more and B) Traumatizing him is so fun.
Anyway, so she dies. The Sheikah are ancient beings with unyielding loyalty, since they follow the royal family everywhere this is obvious, and are hence incredibly loyal to their champion. They manage to save her with their plan B option. I'm pretty sure I wrote it as a makeshift shrine but it also is probably a little bit of black magic.
Anyway, a century passes. Aaliyah awakes in a place that had long since fell to ruins, mind blank and head empty.
But she's angry. She wakes up so mind numbingly angry and stomps off with her original slate. It's broken and doesn't work, but she uses it like a weapon. Eventually, she runs into Link! Woo, but like...
Imagine you lock two angry cats fighting for territory in a room and them throw a sprinkler in there.
They're both angry. They don't know anything, and resources are sparce, They fight, of course, and both eventually walk off with their tails between their legs. BUT they keep fucking meeting. AND ITS A PATTERN
Except they start relearning things! Like how to fight and how to use a bow, and they get better armor, better equipment. When Link shows up with a shield, she blows his ass up.
At some point, they start expecting to see each other. They stop fighting so much and instead share a campsite.
AND THEN- they happen to be walking towards a stable together and are just HIT with the imagery of her death <3
Thats also a mess that leaves them storming away from each other <3
They meet again in Kakariko and eventually talk it out. Aaliyah goes with him to the castle, does not fall through the floor, instead watched from above like :O. bc shes a dumbass.
She does make sure he stays alive though. Throws a fairy in a bottle at him at some point which hits him and he turns like >:( and she's just 'oops'.
Then they save Zelda yadda yadda. Aaliyah moves on with her life bc her and Zelda prolly hate each other (There is no prolly they do. They HATE each other. Like middle aged white women in PTA's.)
But, Aaliyah is such a big figure head to the Sheikah, there's no real escape. So her and Link slowly redevelop their relationship.
When the gloom starts spreading, Aaliyah remains at the castle base while they go to investigate, working with the people to sort them and everything.
Luckily for her, when Ganon is like >:) I'm back, she doesn't have to experience it first hand because she falls into a gloom pit. Takes her OUT man. She's stuck down there long enough that gloom probably sinks in and she gets super sick because of it
Eventually she finds this weird temple place right? And there's these parts right? Surely you see where I'm going with this
And so she builds this giant robot okay? In her tord Era (omg eddsworld is so old now that I think about it), and meets this...thing okay?
And the thing is like 🤨 u aren't swordsman link and aaliyah is like 🤨 yeah what of it?
And mineru is all ...u did all this? And aaliyah is like yeah suck it bitch. And then mineru is like "aight you cool then. Lemme show you this cool room. It'll give you a cool necklace AND a headpiece. And outfit ig"
So aaliyah gets that green neck piece and hairpiece I've drawn her with once. She doesn't care for the hairpiece but she'll wear it for special occasions.
The link appears FINALLY >:( AND they have this whole Spiderman moment where they're point at each other, as if shocked to see the other)
"I thought you were dead?"
"YOU FUCKING FELL THROUGH A HOLE AND DIDNT THINK TO STAY PUT SO I COULD FIND YOU?"
It's great.
So aaliyah gets her spirit stone as the Sage of spirits and her giant rock.
Then she visits purah gets her own purah pad. She gets to keep her bombs AND stasis bc I said so. And her giant robot.
From there they go around trying to bring order back to their hyrule bc like...Zelda isnt in danger really? They know where she is and she seems fine.
They get a new house bc someone took theirs smh (they were just roommates in that first house guys lmao) and take turns with the shrines to reduce the gloom in their systems
Okay sidebar; when I was doing that aaliyah and Tia bits I wasn't lying about aaliyah being like in hyrule but she's liked in the same sense Robin hood was liked. Nobles hate her
But tulin likes her and so does teba and saki
Yunobo does not.
Sidon and yona think of her and Sage like puppies. Like they are the embodiment of that one meme that's just
Zora, with either hanging off them: GET YOUR FUCKING HYLIAN
Sidon/ Yona: they don't bite 😊
Zora: YES THEY FUCKING DO-
riju also likes them. They are the Honorary siblings of hyrule even if they claim to hate everyone.
There are few people that have gotten through
That being said, they are scary to the average stablehand
They are scarred and ragged and look like if you breath at them wrong they'll fucking gut you.
Which they might but that's not the point
Eventually they run out of reasons to not fight Ganon and have to go...do that
This one they take on together bc they are common law married bc I said so
They've spent so much time together now its only natural. Like yeah its not gay to kiss the homies goodnight but its a little gay when you guys live together cook meals together and lay on the couch talking about life together
Even historians are calling them lovers at this point
So they save Zelda! I hate how end of totk goes and I think she should've STAYED a dragon but also I need her human for the drama between her and aaliyah. Maybe she has horns and scales and she's also now a little fucked up.
Sage KEEPS HIS RAURU ARM HE DOES NOT GET HIS NORMAL ARM. thank you.
Aaliyah and Sage mostly try to live a normal life but yk...
Natura tries to demand Sage back to his knightly role but after everything that just happened he's like "not a chance"
He becomes a lovely househusband that terrifies newcomers in Tarrey town but the locals love him
He offers protection quality recipes and is willing to go Gerudo for this one ingredient Harriet needed for her stew that night
Aaliyah remains a diplomat of sorts since people trust her rather than this figurehead for focused on digging through the remains of her people for info on tech they shouldn't ever try to harness rather than ..yk.... govern.
She tends to stick close to Sage tho
Their relationship is very...codependent. I think I've said this before but these two learn to rely on each other
Its not healthy and I don't condone this type of relationship but it's so fun to write
These two are disgustingly reliant on the other. It's the type of relationship where they only do self care things for the other person to know they're okay
They are grossly jealous individuals, incredibly possessive and will have extremist reactions to people trying to flirt with what's theirs
I cannot emphasize how toxic this is for anyone. But these two make it work
Only these two who are FICTIONAL. THIS IS NOT THE TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP THAT IS HEALTHY. DO NOT LOOK FOR THIS IN A PARTNER.
These two have a history together and with their broken psyche it gets twisted.
But they're happy together and stop their other half from destroying hyrule.
And in the end that's all that matters <3
If you have any other questions regarding these two I'd be more than happy to answer them 😊😊

Across the Universe(s)
Linked Universe
It was one of those nights, the kind where sleep wasn’t going to come no matter how long Wild laid there and stared into the dark.
Fortunately, Sky was on watch and would welcome the company rather than send Wild back to his bedroll to “at least try” to sleep.
At Wild’s approach, Sky looked up and gave him a gentle smile before opening one side of his sailcloth and inviting Wild to his side.
Curled up just outside the glow of the campfire, the stars were bright and glittering in the darkness above them. There were so many that it was hard to make out any recognizable constellations.
Were these even the same stars from his era, Wild thought to himself as he let his mind wander. Maybe they were different stars? Could that even happen? Maybe this isn’t even his timeline?
“What’s on your mind, champion?”
Wild shook himself out of his head at Sky’s question. “Do you ever wonder…” Wild trailed off. Was there a not-weird way to voice his thoughts?
“Wonder what?” Sky asked, never any judgment in his voice.
“We all come from different eras, right?”
“Yeah.”
“But like, what if there’s other eras from other worlds?
“Like another universe?”
“Yeah.”
Sky paused to consider the idea. “I suppose anything’s possible. Are you thinking something like…” he trailed off, thinking of a way to say it delicately, “…if you’d defeated the Calamity the first time?”
“Mmmmm, yeah, I’ve thought about that before,” Wild admitted, “but now I’m thinking about all of us meeting.”
Sky exhaled. Thank goodness. “What about us meeting?”
“What if there’s another us, another Sky and Wild, sitting just like this, in some other place or time, having the same conversation.”
Sky smiled at the idea. “Do you think we’d be the same Sky and Wild? Or the same everyone else?”
“I mean, maybe? Like, maybe a little different.”
“How so?”
“Maybe we’d been picked up for his trip at different points in life? Like Wind is the oldest and Time is the youngest.”
“Oh goddesses,” Sky tried to smother is laughter at the image in his mind.
“Maybe in other me’s world my Champion’s tunic is yellow? And your loftwing is blue?” Wild said as a yawn escaped him.
“Ooooh, now that’d be something.” Sky chuckled.
Wild leaned into Sky’s side and let his mind wander again.
What if…?

This is a entry for @miphlinkweek event Miphlink week 2023 day 1: Stargazing. This can be set in the 100 years before Breath of the Wild or Age of Calamity. Some of the constellations are references to the Legend of Zelda series.
With a bit off time from training, with the sky clear for tonight, Link and Mipha sit down a safe area in Hyrule Field and look up at the night sky. Mipha try to find any of the constellations that she could recognize from her books. Her golden eyes move, scanning the stars, until she find one and point it to Link, “Look, it’s the Great Bear!” Link recall from what his father told him as he look at the night sky, “To the north, you can find the constellation Volvagia. I hear legends that Volvgia was a dragon slayed by the Hero of Time thousand of millions in the Era of Myths and Legends of Old Hyrule.” Mipha unintentionally said with a happy smile, “The same Hylian sword master that my ancestor Ruta was in love with.” This got Link’s attention and Mipha quickly brush over what she just said. The Hylian knight only sigh as he never that he could never married Mipha, the princess he loved, as the legends never said that the hero would marry a princess. They usually ended with the hero defeating a incarnation of the great evil they would faced and bring peace to the land of Hyrule, not continue to tell what happen to the hero after their victory. Still, Link quickly point to the constellation Minish Cap to get Mipha happy so they can enjoy their time stargazing together. Mipha even find the constellation Sword Spirit before Link to his surprise.

1. I was born on November 21st, so I’m a Scorpio
2. Scorpio is associated with the colors maroon, brown, and black. The associated animal is a Scorpion because it’s related to a Greek myth where Orion got stung to death by a scorpion which is why the star Orion sets as Scorpius.
3. Scorpio is linked to the planet Pluto which is said to govern destruction and transformation and is dark and mysterious like Scorpios.
4. I also included the constellation for Scorpio, the M symbol which represents creation and destruction, and an eagle because Scorpio’s are said to have powerful vision and spot details like eagles.
attendance prompt:
“Pink is, after all, just faded red, which in the era of scarlet-jacketed soldiers and red-robed cardinals was the most masculine color, while blue was the signature hue of the Virgin Mary” (p. 115).
This quote was interesting because the opposite is true today, where pink is generally considered feminine and blue is considered masculine. I think the switch in what is considered masculine and feminine just proves how gender norms are social constructs that are constantly subject to change

Late Primorial Age ancestry
So for those who don't know about this Puyo headcanon blog yet I am @rabbitriceball and I have made a headcanon timeline for the SEGA-era Puyo universe. It only has three ages compared to the infamous Madou Cronology's six: the Primorial Age, the Dawning Age, and the Modern Era (which is its own age). The war between humans and Heaven still happens, but it is different...let me just sum up history prior to this point.
Universe comes to existence, cosmic force comes to existence and expands universe, cosmic force creates a manifestation of itself in the form of a young girl, a goddess and god become born and fight each other, girl breaks up the fight and the two end up creating the Primorial Puyo Puyo world, angels are born, girl creates her brother as a companion, humans are born, the Constellation Zone is formed, some guy manages completes a decade long journey to the edge of the universe and gets awarded for it, Puyos come to exist, and what becomes Ringo's world becomes linked to the Puyo world.
and then the war happens.
As I said, what happened during the war is different to the Madou Chronology. First off, Dark Prince (Lucifer, as he was known back then) still participated in the war and managed to lose a few times and got cast out of heaven after the war ended as a result. Speaking of Lilith, she doesn't participate in the war at all. In this timeline, she was a child when this happened.
Anyway onto the ancestry, the thing that the title states to have. Marle and Squares aren't on here, they're obviously still here, and they've been around long before the war began. Carbuncle and Dark Prince/Lucifer exist around this time too, so they're not listed here either. Most of these guys live in like a village that existed before Arca or Primp did, and none of the residents there partake in the war. The Goddess of the Sun and God of the Moon also aren't taking sides and in fact were trying to find away to stop the war from happening.
Arle Nadja ← Lilith (quite the obvious one. Would end up helping the Goddess and God find a way to end the war and puts herself on a fetch quest for the Seraphim Orb)
Original demon (Cyan & Crimson Spirit's original form) ← A demon that the Goddess was once friends with. Would birth the demon that would split off into Sig's ancestor and Possesed Klug.
Amitie ← Goddess of the Sun (Would end up using the Seraphim Orb to split the world in to at the cost of her physical form. She regretted "dying" this way)
??? ← God of the Moon (rumors say he still exists in his true form, but he was grieved by the loss of the Goddess. He holds no grudge towards Lilith, since the Goddess brought her "death" on herself, and there are rumors circulating about a reincarnation existing in the present day somewhere...)
Klug ← A guy that wanted to write a famous book in ancient times.
Ms. Accord ← A teacher that Lilith went to to learn magic spells.
Lemres ← A wandering merchant who runs the only store in the village, much like the shopkeepers in Madou Monogatari. Like his descendant, he likes making sweets to give to people, which in this case is traditional Japanese sweets like dango and monaka.
Rulue ← A previous Fighting Queen.
And I think that's it until I can think of some more.

FROM PLANE TO PLANE - inside the plane ... THE FINAL PROBLEM
An attempt to unravel the Sherlock BBC Tapestry based on metaphorical reading
This episode’s theme adds yet another cycle to all the previous ones since TSOT, the great turning point of the story. That’s five cycles in total (HLV, TAB, TST, TLD, TFP). Six, if one counts everything that takes place before Sherlock’s ‘I'm in love’ revelation in TSOT as the great basic cycle of the show. The pattern ‘five to six’ feels a bit familiar, because a similar constellation can be noticed regarding the six bombs, linked with five pips in TGG, the six busts that belong to five owners in TST, the five creators of the H.O.U.N.D. aerosol + Dr Frankland who developed it further or the way Sherlock counts Major Barrymore’s six books about Thatcher in THOB ...
‘Copy of “The Downing Street Years” (a memoir by M Thatcher); one, two, three, four, five separate biographies of Thatcher’.
Maybe there’s yet another, deeper meaning behind those books, a meaning that has nothing to do with Thatcher as a historical figure per se. The etymological origin of ‘thatch’ basically means ‘to cover’ something. Seeing one of those Thatcher busts crumbling down Sherlock’s face in TST, like a melting mask, seems only to confirm this interpretation. The six books on the other hand consist of five biographies + one autobiography and that’s another very prominent theme in Sherlock BBC. The famous biographer of many stories gets finally replaced by Sherlock himself when he takes over John’s blog and becomes his own author.  (Batches of six  Sherlock’s website)
Anyway, in The Final Problem once again a flight into the past - into Sherlock’s childhood - turns out to be the centerpiece of an episode. Except one young girl, everyone on board, even the pilot (‘the driver’) is asleep. While this flight continues, the girl high up in the sky and a woman locked up in a prison cell at the lowest level on an island surrounded by water, confront Sherlock with different problems. The girl wants to land the plane. The woman wants Sherlock to recognize the truth about his own persona and in order to achieve this, Sherlock has to undergo five tasks. Only then he is presented with the Musgrave Riddle, whose solution will allow him to get the plane back to earth and John out of a well. None other than Jim Moriarty acts as the stationmaster of Eurus’ experiments and when the riddle is solved and the flight reaches its destination, Sherlock finds himself in a surreal world, where two different locations seem to exist side by side and where past and present collide. When Sherlock enters the cockpit, he enters also his lost sister’s room at Musgrave Hall, the ancestral home of the Holmes family, while simultaneously the descending plane is now very close over London.
As is often the case in Sherlock BBC, a similar constellation has already happened before with another plane - the one that takes off by the end of HLV. This flight is supposed to take Sherlock to an undercover assignment in Eastern Europe but instead it carries him right into TABs so called ‘drug induced Victorian fever dream’ and with that, into the great detective’s literary youth. At the end of this case, Sherlock follows Jim Moriarty and ‘flies’ down the Reichenbach Falls. When the plane finally lands and Sherlock returns to London, 221b has become a surreal place where two parallel worlds exist side by side, where past and present collide and where ‘a logician should be able to infer the possibility of ‘Reichenbach’ (Rich Brook) just from a drop of water (emotions)’.
Tumblr media
Although the destination of the ‘flight’ in TFP has great resemblance with the one in TAB - both carry Sherlock back to his beginnings and both end in a surreal parallel universe - the second 'flight’ goes still a bit deeper as the previous one. The first flight starts at the end of HLV and subsequentely confronts Sherlock with the birth of his literary character in the Victorian Era, starting at the famous moment when he meets Dr Watson for the first time. The integration of Musgrave and Victor Trevor into the second flight in TFP, connects this episode again to Sherlock’s literary youth but also to his college years, a time in which he hadn’t yet made the acquaintance of Dr Watson. Sherlock has now reached a point BEFORE the beginning, one might say.
TBC below the cut .....
Themes from previous episodes ... repeated and changed:
The episode starts with the motive of the revengeful ghost sister from TAB. This time though Sherlock isn’t confronted with a group of people called a league of furies, an invisible army, a monstrous regiment. It’s only one person that challenges him now, his own sister Eurus, the East Wind, who was locked away and forgotten a long time ago.
The Baker Street explosion in TGG is repeated but this time it takes the opposite direction. Not from the outside in but instead from the inside out (Symbolism of exploding bombs). On a metaphorical level those differently aimed explosions can be connected to the mirror-shootings of Sherlock and Mary in HLV and TST. Meaning: if an explosive idea starts inside Sherlock’s mind palace and goes outwards, it would hit first Sherlock’s heart and only then his facade, Mary. (On behalf of AMO)
The jump out of the living room window in 221b can be associated with Sherlock’s jump from Bart’s roof that ends his confrontation with Jim, the bomber, at the end of TRF. This time though Sherlock isn’t alone. He jumps side by side with John while Mycroft takes the door.
The same pattern is repeated in the very next scene. Sherlock and John land on the roof of a ship somewhere in the middle of an unspecified ocean. Although only Sherlock’s jump down to the ship’s deck can be seen on screen, one can assume that John takes the same way. Mycroft on the other hand, chooses again a different and never explained route to Sherrinford.
Like Baskerville in THOB, the high security prison Sherrinford is also a heavily protected government facility. Other than in Baskerville, Sherlock and John are now accompanied by Mycroft and this time Sherlock doesn’t stop at the first underground level but goes all the way down to the deepest floor (where the bins are kept). Here he meets Eurus, while Mycroft and John interrogate the prison’s Governor.
In Baskervill as well as in Sherrinford experiments are coducted - ‘all totally scientific, under laboratory conditions’. In THOB it is Sherlock who monitors John on a screen, while the doctor is convinced to be exposed to the presence of the HOUND. In TFP Sherlock, John and Mycroft are monitored by Eurus on a screen, while Jim - the HOUND - acts as stationmaster of the experiments.  (Like brother, like sister)
The five tasks of Sherrinford
Eurus’ experiments follow the same pattern of ‘five’ that also turns up in the five bombing victims in TGG, the five funny stories in TSOT and the five bust-owner cases in TST. But the five tasks of Sherrinford are set up not only as mirrors for certain events in previous episodes, they seem to be connected to the individual Series of the show as well.
THE GOVERNOR AND HIS WIFE .... the first task is about a suicide that’s acually murder. Furthermore, the sacrifice-motive and a close connection to the fourth task is also highlighted. This provides a mirror for the whole show. The serieal killer theme of S1-ASIP that is repeated in S4-TLD and Sherlock’s attempt to save John Watson, even at the cost of his own life, all of this is brought together in the first task. The first and the fourth task are linked in the same way as S1 and S4. (The Governor and his Wife - revisited&expanded)
THE THREE GARRIDEBS .... in the second task a choice has to be made out of three possibilities. Sherlock faces the same problem in S2-TRF, mirrored by the three fall-solutions revealed in TEH. A loving friendship without sex is placed opposite sex and opposite reason and intellect. Those three aspects are represented by (John-mirror) Molly and the ‘good bye kiss of the hero’, Jim and the ‘let’s elope, baby’ scene and Mycroft who represents Sherlock’s final decision: ‘the pure mind prevails, only the work counts’. But in the end all three possibilities lead to the same outcome.
THE COFFIN FOR LOVE .... in the third task a row of deductions leads to an important revelation: ‘I love you’. Sherlock speaks the words in front of a mirror to Molly, who acts herself as a mirror for John. This reflects Sherlock’s best man speech in S3-TSOT, in which he deduces himself into love, while his facade has already been penetrated and the seed of love planted.
MYCROFT OR JOHN .... the fourth task is about a decision between reason and intellect on the one hand and the desire for love and sex on the other. In S4-TLD Sherlock first distances himself from Mycroft and focuses on his first meeting with John - mirrored by Faith. The ‘sign of two’ is visually addressed by the appearance of two different Faiths ... two different perspectives of John ... eternal friend or potential lover.  (From therapist to therapist)
Confronted with the fourth task, Sherlock isn’t able to choose either reason&intellect over love&sex. Instead he wants to stop the experiment by taking himself out of the game. Eurus interferes and literally ‘spiked’ by his emotional core, Sherlock is forced to go deeper until he reaches his ‘ancestral home’ where the heart of the matter lies - or to put it in the synonymus german phrase ‘wo der Hund begraben liegt’ (where the dog lies buried). If there’s indeed this ‘pattern of five’ used as a basis for the Sherrinford tasks, the fifth and final task, the Musgrave Riddle, should point to Series Five (if there ever is one) and the end of the story.
5.  MUSGRAVE AND VICTOR TREVOR - the time BEFORE John .... Sherlock falls backwards and sinks into a black mass. When he awakens he lies face down on a table in a grey chamber. The surrounding walls are plastered with old family pictures, some torn and patched together incorrectly (the various SH adaptations maybe). Sherlock finds the food bowl of his childhood dog Redbeard. While he examines room and pictures Sherlock is alternatingly in contact with adult Eurus, John and little Eurus, the girl on the plane. A ‘draft’ (a wind) and a ‘gap’ (mind the gap) lead Sherlock to the realisation that the walls are not real. He pushes them open and finds himself at Musgrave Hall, his ancestral home. Once inside the house, adult Eurus confronts him with the Musgrave Riddle, an encrypted song she once composed, that is supposed to lead Sherlock to his lost childhood dog Redbeard. Adult Eurus calls herself ‘Jim’s revenge’ and she orders Sherlock to find Redbeard, while water starts pouring down on John in the well and little Eurus on the now shaking plane cries for help. Meanwhile John finds old bones and a human skull at the bottom of the well and comes to the conclusion that Mycroft lied to both of them. When he informs Sherlock about his discovery, Sherlock starts finally to remember and Redbeard the lost dog turns into Victor Trevor, the lost boy who called himself Redbeard when he played ‘pirate’ with his best friend Sherlock, who had chosen ‘Yellowbeard’ as his pirate name. Victor visually appears to be in the same position inside the well as John and Eurus confirms that she had been the one responsible for this in the past as well as now. To save John from drowning, Sherlock has to solve the riddle in time. When Eurus repeats the words ‘no one’, Sherlock remembers the wrong dates on Nemo’s (no-one’s) gravestone. He leaves the house and investigates the dates on the ‘funny gravestones’, among which he once used to play as a boy. Sherlock manages to arrange the dates in the correct order and attaches them to the words of Eurus’ song. ‘Seek my room’ turns out to be the solution of the riddle. When Sherlock reaches Eurus’ room and opens the door, he opens also the door to the cockpit of the descending plane. The moment he looks at the little girl and the sleeping pilot next to her, he looks also at adult Eurus in her old and burnt childhood room. Girl and woman become one person and time starts running backwards all the way to the episode’s intro, to the very moment when the sleeping girl on the plane awakens and opens her eyes. Then there’s another short time jump to little Eurus who plays with her toy plane next to a beach .....
Tumblr media
And then onwards .....
Temporary condlusion:  Sherlock is able to solve the riddle that has been set up for him by his emotional core. Little Eurus on the plane and adult Eurus in her old childhood room merge into one character ... a sign that Sherlock’s persona has developed and reached more harmony. Sherlock manages to save John from drowning at the bottom of the well. The ‘family’ seems to be whole again. Mycroft (reason and intellect) has lost a noticable degree of his former position and power. Eurus (emotional core), although still under tight controll, communicates with Sherlock and together they are able to create beautiful and heartwarming music. Baker Steet 221b gets restored and Sherlock and John continue to solve their exceptional cases .... like they always did and they always will .... after all, they are still Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.
Three possible future cases:
THE VENTRILOQUIST’S DUMMY - he sits in the client’s chair and the operator seems to be dressed in black and hides behind the chair
Tumblr media
THE CASE OF THE DANCING MEN - cyphers are written on a blackboard in front of the fireplace. They  translate into: “Am here Abe Slaney” and are a reference to the canon case of The Dancing Men (X)
Tumblr media
THE MYSTERIOUS VIKING - he lies unconscious on the living room floor and John tries to wake him up, patting his face and examining his eye
Tumblr media
All three settings refer to subjects that have already come up in previous episodes.
A red balloon is used as head for the ‘dummy of the guy’, sitting in a pushchair, for Guy Fawkes day in TEH and also for John’s head, bound to the client’s chair, in TST. (X X)
The world’s run on codes and cyphers, tells Sherlock in TBB and paired cyphers are the secret code of the Black Lotus Gang in the same episode. (X X)
Initially Sherlock wanted to become a pirate, that’s what Mycroft tells in ASIB and Sherlock calls himself a pirate in TFP. (X X)
This might indicate that the three episodes of a possible futer series could deal with John and the truth about his substitute, a secret finally revealed and Sherlock, sailing the vast ocean of emotions free like a pirate. :)
The big difference
There’s only one big difference, one enormous change, that distiguishes other Sherlock Holmes adaptations from Sherlock BBC, and this is .... Rosie. Little Rosamund, the new life, whose existence Sherlock deduced unexpectedly after his ‘I’m in love’ revelation at the turning point of the story, in TSOT (The elephant in the room   A Christmas Tale). By the end of TFP Rosie lives in Baker Street, lovingly nutured and cared for by Sherlock and John. This child has been given a very special name and how that name is meant to be read in this story is explicitly stated by Molly during the christening scene in TST.
‘Rosamund ... means ‘rose of the world’ ... Rosa Mundi
According to Jim’s message in TGG: ‘The clue’s in the name’, the meaning of names really seems to be very important in Sherlock BBC. Molly’s direct reference to precisely THIS rose makes it rather easy to find a more than fitting reference. ‘Rose of the world’ translates into the Latin ‘Rosa Mundi’, which is the name of an actually existing, historical rose, also famously known by it’s botanical name ‘Rosa gallica versicolor’.
About that rose:  Rosa Mundi is a sport of the Apothecary Rose (Rosa gallica officinalis) and is probably the oldest and best known of the striped roses. Many legends surround this rose; the most romantic is that it was named for 'Fair Rosamund', mistress of Henry II. Rosa Mundi is also depicted in Botticelli’s work “Virgin Adoring the Sleeping Christ Child”. x x
Versicolor or Rosa Mundi must be one of the most popular of all old roses with its light crimson flowers splashed and striped with shades of pale pink. It grows up to 4 feet and is one of those garden shrubs that makes you stand still for a long while in pure admiration. x
On Youtube:  Old Garden Roses-The Gallicas (at 6.01 about Rosa Mundi and the story of Henry II & Eleanor of Aquitaine (parents of Richard the Lionheart and Prince John) and the young lady Jane Clifford, who was that beautiful that everyone just called her the Fair Rosamund.
Additionally:  the Spirit of Ecstasy, the bonnet ornament sculpture on Rolls-Royce cars (very prominently set in scene on Lady Smallwood’s car in HLV) is called Eleanor:  from the Old French name Alienòr.  Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine was initially named Aenor after her mother, and in order to distinguish her from the mother, she was called by the phrase ‘alia Aenor’ that means ‘the other Aenor’ (X).
Painting of Rosa Mundi, Rosa Versicolor: Alida Withoos possibly 1700
Tumblr media
And again the clue's in the name ...
As mentioned above, the botanical name of Rosa Mundi is Rosa Versicolor. The word ‘VERSICOLOR’ describes something that has different colours or something that is changeable in colour in different lights (’I’m sooo changeable’ Jim in TGG). This effect can also be called ‘iridescent’ (X X) ... meaning:
having a play of lustrous rainbow colors
varying in color when seen in different lights or from different angles
coloured like the iris or a rainbow
Little Rosie - the so called 'elephant in the womb' by the creators of Sherlock BBC at SDCC (ca 28.00 in) - has been given the name of a famous rose whose synonym translates into ‘RAINBOW’. And by the end of TFP this sparkling little rainbow has found a home in 221b Baker Street. The words chosen to start Mary’s epilogue at the end of that episode seem to point also to a future in which Sherlock and John are joined in a relationship beyond friendship or family.
“I know you two; and if I’m gone, I know what you could become ... because I know who you really are.”
What else could those two men only become when the ‘wife’ is gone, when Sherlock’s facade is gone? Mary had been created as guardian to protect John and Sherlock (as well as Doyle himself) from a cruel law of society. Over the course of more than a century she has fulfilled this task. Now her protection isn’t necessary anymore. Sherlock and John can finally be who they really are ... two addicts, yes ... (addiction=chemistry of love) ... two men united by the bond of love ... and thus a little RAINBOW has risen in Baker Street 221b.
Tumblr media
PS .....
As menitioned above, the time laps starts when Sherlock enters Eurus’ room, which is also the cockpit of the plane. That’s the moment when time starts runnning backwards to the beginning of the episode’s intro. Interestingly the time laps doesn’t end on the girls closed eyes though but jumps further ahead to little Eurus who plays with her toy plane next to a beach. Although Sherlock has entered the cockpit and the plane is very close over London, there’s no actual scene that shows the landing or any passengers leaving it. This scene conveys the same ambigious feeling as the one at the end of TAB in which Sherlock’s voluntary ‘flight’ down the ‘waterfall’ is aimed at the Reichenbach Cauldron but actually ends at the tarmac from HLV. And the same ambiguity resonates in Sherlock’s declaration immediately after leaving that plane:
‘Moriarty is dead, no question. But more importantly ... I know exactly what he’s going to do next.’
And when Sherlock reaches Baker Street it turns out that inside 221b he is still trapped in the Victorian Era while outside it’s modern times. The next episode, The Six Thatchers, starts and ends with Sherlock surrounded by water. This easily leads to the assumtion that the story told in Series Four actually takes place inside the depths of the Reichenbach Cauldron (Rich Brook’s Cauldron) and that the episode with the girl on the plane, told in TFP, is just a ‘flight inside a flight’, a Matroshka-Flight, one might say ... and that the flight from HLV hasn’t quite reached its final destination as well.
At the beginning - or more precisely BEFORE the beginning - of Sherlock BBC stands the inofficial and never aired episode, commonly known as the UNAIRED PILOT. It can be watched on DVD and there has even been a panel at Sherlocked Con 2016 for said PILOT with Steven Moffat and Phil Davis, who played serial killer Jeff Hope (X). Sadly there’s almost no material to be found on that topic.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, the pilot-theme plays also a quite important role in the officially aired show. Throughout the course of the story Sherlock is repeatedly confronted with certain experiences that include: jumping, falling, flying (by plane and by himself), becoming a pilot and landing a plane. All of this looks very much like a continuous pattern, like a string of scenarios, maybe conducted inside the fanciful and creative mind of Sherlock Holmes. A pattern that could easily be read as a metaphor for ‘falling in love’ .... and the process of falling in love happens inside the brain and is based on chemistry. (The chemistry of love)

The Strange Connection Between Sleep and Weight Loss
In our relentless pursuit of productivity and packed schedules, the act of securing a restorative night's sleep often becomes a luxury we can ill afford. We sacrifice precious hours of slumber in the name of work deadlines, Netflix binges, or the endless scroll of our smartphones. But what if we told you that the quantity and quality of your sleep are inextricably linked to your body weight? That's right—there exists a curious and captivating connection between the realm of sleep and the pursuit of weight loss. In this deep dive into the enigmatic relationship between sleep and shedding those extra pounds, we'll unravel the astonishing science that underpins this paradoxical phenomenon.
Deciphering Sleep Cycles: A Complex Ballet
To appreciate the complex interplay between sleep and weight loss, it is imperative to grasp the intricacies of sleep cycles. Sleep is no monolithic state but an ever-evolving process characterized by distinct stages. Two primary categories emerge: rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM sleep. REM sleep, the stage where dreams unfurl their mysteries, stands as the guardian of cognitive function and memory consolidation.
The Weight Loss Enigma: A Scientific Prelude Before we embark on our exploration of the labyrinthine connection between sleep and weight, let's take a moment to cast a fleeting glance at the scientific essence of weight loss. At its core, weight loss revolves around the principle of expending more calories than one consumes. Yet, this simplistic equation barely scratches the surface of the intricate dance of hormones, metabolism, and behaviors that orchestrate our body weight.
Hormonal Chaos: The Sleep-Weight Nexus One of the pivotal mechanisms of knitting sleep and weight together is the profound impact of sleep deprivation on our hormonal orchestra. Sleep deprivation disrupts the delicate equilibrium of hunger-related hormones, ushering in an era of heightened ghrelin, the insatiable appetite stimulator, and a dwindling supply of leptin, the herald of fullness.
The Temptation Quandary: Sleep's Influence on Appetite It should come as no surprise that sleep deprivation often transforms us into seekers of solace in the arms of sugary, calorie-laden comfort foods. The loss of sleep casts a shadow over the prefrontal cortex, the commander of decision-making and impulse control, making the midnight snack a siren's call nearly impossible to resist.
Slumber's Subdued Metabolism: A Puzzling Twist Another fascinating facet of the sleep-weight saga is its compelling influence on metabolism. Sleep deprivation administers a sluggish blow to your metabolic furnace, rendering the calorie-burning process less efficient. This means that even if your dietary intake remains constant, sleeplessness may surreptitiously tip the scales toward weight gain.
REM Sleep: The Hero in This Tale In the constellation of sleep stages, REM sleep emerges as a luminary of unparalleled significance in the interplay between sleep and weight. During the reign of REM, your brain engages in a symphony of activity, choreographing increased incineration of calories and a mesmerizing breakdown of fat.
The Sleep-Weight Nexus: Fathoming the Fundamentals To plunge even deeper into the enigmatic alliance of sleep and weight loss, we must lay bare the foundations that underlie this complex relationship. Sleep is no pedestrian biological ritual but an intricately woven tapestry of stages, including the ever-elusive REM and the steadfast non-REM.
The Hormonal Web: Ghrelin and Leptin's Slumbering Dance At the heart of the sleep-weight connection, a hormonal waltz unfolds, guided by the enigmatic maestros, ghrelin, and leptin, the twin titans of hunger regulation. The potency of these hormones waxes and wanes, dictated by the tapestry of sleep's duration and quality.
The Modern Plague: Sleep Starvation In our brave new world, governed by relentless schedules and ceaseless connectivity, sleep often falls victim to our ceaseless pursuit of productivity, pleasure, and pixelated screens. The outcome? Chronic sleep deprivation—a relentless juggernaut that threatens to capsize our weight loss ambitions.
Unmasking the Silent Predators: Sleep Disorders As silent as shadows, sleep disorders like insomnia and sleep apnea prowl our nights, often eluding detection. Yet, their impact reverberates far beyond the realm of dreams, reaching into the domain of weight gain and obesity.
The Alchemy of Sleep and Hunger: Ghrelin and Leptin's Pas de Deux Delving deeper into the labyrinthine science of sleep and weight, let us embark on a voyage into the inner workings of ghrelin and leptin—two hormonal architects whose designs are profoundly influenced by the contours of your sleep patterns.
Slumber's Metabolic Symphony: An Ode to Renewal Sleep unfurls a clandestine yet magnificent symphony of metabolic rejuvenation. In the realm of dreams, your body undertakes essential repairs and restoration, rekindling your metabolic vigor and, paradoxically, fostering weight loss.

happy halloween! have y’all seen scara’s drip? D A M N. it’s kinda scary how it’s also the anniversary of bohemian rhapsody as well as when the 1.1 trailer came out, when we first met him. interesting...
enough of that, how have y’all been? so persona 5 royal was released on the 21st and i’ve been playing it ever since. as someone who majored in psych as an undergrad and studying counseling psych for grad school, the information about personas and shadows are accurate and literally, i’ve haven’t been this happy. also, the storyline and the characters are AMAZING (i'm in my akechi kisser era lol love that pancake loser to death and i’m an ann kinnie love her). i’m looking forward to play strikers afterwards and both p3 and p4 when they get released 1/19/23.
some of the genshin impact vas are in that game -- ann’s, ryuji’s, and mishima’s specifically -- and that gave me an idea of a persona au. each nation released so far will get their own hcs!
persona has a feature called social links where you hang out with characters you’ve met throughout the game and they’ll give power-ups for your journey. i’ll be assigning a character to a role in the team for each nation, what persona they would have based on constellations, and what arcana they would have for their social links with the reader based on their personalities and ideals. i hope that makes sense?
teams:
mondstadt - amber, kaeya, jean, lisa, diluc, venti, mona, albedo, eula
liyue - ningguang, keqing, tartaglia (childe), zhongli, ganyu, xiao, hu tao, yanfei, shenhe, yelan
inazuma - kazuha, ayaka, yoimiya, ei, yae, sara, kokomi, thoma, gorou
sumeru - tighnari, collei, cyno, candace, nilou, nahida, al-haitham, kaveh, dehya, scaramouche (wanderer)
notes:
each team has 9-10 members each. p3 to p5 the range was 8-10.
team composition was based on the characters who participated in the main storyline and/or were considered important during the interludes. in some cases, some were important to the event storyline (e.g., mona and albedo) and some were just thrown in there (e.g., hu tao and kaveh).
childe is in the liyue team as he was released during that chapter i.
scaramouche is in the sumeru team instead of inazuma as he was released during chapter iii and received his vision in the nation (check drip marketing).
it felt like a crime not including itto into the inazuma team because his eng va max mittelman voiced ryuji so i was thinking of including social links with npcs (as in playable characters of genshin who aren’t in the team but can benefit from forming relationships with you) as well.

This painting is by the artist, Ferdinand Piloty, (?1786-1844?) who painted a stylistically-similar scene of Kriemhild and her mother in the blog post I still haven't completed (link here). It refers to the tragic 12th century love story of Cornish king, Tristan, and Irish princess, Isolde (aka Iseult). The tale was adapted into an opera by Richard Wagner between 1857 and 1859. I like the painting because of the gold background and intricate tree design.
The image is just one of loads of fresh material I have unearthed while making my latest scrapbook. Other items include pictures of lesser-known animals (geunons, gaurs and peccaries); various flowers; different types of fish (glass fish, icicle fish, goatfish); depictions of zodiacal signs (from Krakow's Kupa Synagogue, and Jaipur's Janta Mantar observatory); bizarre illustrations from alchemical manuscripts; Renaissance- and Baroque-era portraits of saints (Barbara, Catherine and Rose of Lima); artworks by Vincent van Gogh; watercolour paintings of fairies, oil paintings of angels, and woodcut renderings of witches; information about bees and bee-keeping; ancient Chinese and medieval European agricultural practices; the history of weather vanes; snippets of info about and paintings by Egon Schiele; the history of the dodo and its genetic relation, the solitaire (now both extinct); a brief history of the factory-village of Port Sunlight (similar to the story of Sir Titus Salt and Saltaire in West Yorkshire, it was built by an industrialist - William Hesketh Lever* - to house his estate workers); an engraving of Hester Prynne and her daughter from Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel 'The Scarlet Letter'; information and illustrations pertaining to the use of runes in the practice of magic; the constellation of Gemini as portrayed in various manuscripts (e.g. the Bedford Book of Hours, and a Turkish treatise on astrology); info about Halley's comet, the Geminid meteor shower, the festivals of Saturnalia and Lupercalia, and a woodcut from a 16th century English Shepherd's Calendar; and portraits and snippets of info about the (sadly, tragic lives) of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, Mary Queen of Scots, Lady Emma Hamilton, Isadora Duncan, Marie Antoinette and Anne Boleyn.
It's a pity I can't mass-produce my scrapbooks, because I reckon they would be bestsellers!
*The Lady Lever Art Gallery in Liverpool was established by WHL after the death of his wife, and is set in the garden village of Port Sunlight, on the Wirral.
