Gabbiani’s works are labors of love, made painstakingly with a cutter and archival colored papers. This time and attention models an admiration for the resilience of a primary world that slowly manages to survive in the most inhospitable surroundings against most odds. ⁣Reminiscent of Ukiyo-ē, Japanese woodblock prints, Gabbiani’s collages present a transcendental vision of the world; we see the sparks of fireworks against a blue-black sky, far-off city lights and terrain reduced to simple outline. The scene is both everywhere and no where, at no particular point in time besides the ever-present moment. 🎆🔮💜⁣ @francesca_gabbiani ⁣ ⁣ Alongside Gabbiani’s works on view in the exhibition are a selection of surreal collage works by Marnie Weber and uncanny photographs by Dean Sameshima also created in the 1990s.
