Watching battleship right now and it got me thinking about ur post wondering how maverick and ice would react to current recruitment methods like e-girls and I just have to wonder what their thoughts would have been about this movie. It's more focused on the ships and not so much the fighter jets, obviously, but still...just a giant ad for the Navy. Also Rihanna which is perhaps the most important part of it all.
im no whitemanologist but if ice & mav are anything like my dad theyd probably think it’s some pretty sick shit
full disclosure: had not seen battleship until just now, when i watched it so i could answer this ask. thoughts: man, what a waste of jesse plemons! actually the whole cast is kinda stacked: liam neeson COMPACFLT (fuck yeah), Rihanna, alexander skarsgard….. woof. and yeah, it’s a gigantic fuck-you ad for the navy, but even i got a freedom boner when they hopped on *that ship* at the very end (70-year-old ordnance notwithstanding). like, i get it. that kinda whipped ass actually.
as recruitment material it’s very interesting. *guy who has only ever seen top gun watching any other movie* WOW JUST LIKE TOP GUN!!! no, but seriously, all these pro-Navy pro-mil movies are pushing a characterization of the military & the people in it that is laughably absurd. Our main character is always some guy who’s quietly very talented but outwardly a huge asshole who never plays by the rules & stays in the institution that gives him power only by the skin of his teeth. These movies are about *belonging* and push a message that even the most screwy of screw-ups can find their place in the military with a little patriotism and perseverance (maverick voice: “just wanna serve my country and be the best fighter pilot in the Navy, SIR”)—when that’s clearly not true. so, yes, in Battleship hopper is our asshole persevering main character who does everything (EVERYTHING) wrong until he just happens to do one thing right (read sun tzu I guess?) & gets a command of his own. The message is, join the navy, doesn’t matter how much of a fuck-up you are in real life, you too can excel & be recognized & get the outrageously hot chick & lead other men & have immense power….
…when we get invaded by aliens. cause that’s always the other part of these movies that kinda confuses me: unless it’s a historical movie (black Hawk down, american sniper, SPR, hacksaw ridge etc) in the modern age of pro-mil movies we have to make up an enemy to propagandize. TGM’s “fifth-gen fighter” advanced nation, for instance. Not Russia and not Iran and not DPRK, some other shitholistan that isn’t made of real people so we can drop fictional bombs on them without feeling bad. And these fictional enemies are always more advanced than us, because we are perpetual underdogs (& have been since the AmRev war, it’s part of our historical DNA). But… that discrepancy doesn’t reflect reality, obvi. If Tom Cruise hadn’t wanted to film inside real planes, TGM could’ve been a 5-minute short film of an F-35 dropping a precision guided bunker buster from 40,000 feet. like, we have the logistical/materiel capability to execute pretty much any mission we want with little to no actual struggle. But that makes for poor propaganda storytelling. So… aliens it is
It is also worth engaging with Top Gun: Maverick as a recruitment text in and of itself, and I don’t mean like “oh planes cool = people want to join the navy” I mean, this is a movie where the CORE EMOTIONAL TENET is that a kid who wanted to be in the navy got shut out & is still pissed about it. The central emotional tenet of TGM is Rooster trying to finally prove to Maverick that he IS ready to join the Navy. The whole movie is built upon the assumption that the Navy is someplace You Want To Be. It’s not just a recruitment text, it’s a recruitment story. And again, it’s asshole-rule-breaker Maverick who juuuuust manages to stay in because he’s actually super talented all along and not actually a fuck-up, and the Navy legitimizes him as a person (in my reading, as a man) at the end… warlock voice: “You’re where you belong.” Is he, though? All the evidence seems to suggest otherwise!

I’d kill for a part two of that strictly scandalous concept where Hangman fucks Mavericks daughter. Just him realizing what he’s done.
HAHAHAHA. I loved this one. Here ya go. Just because I felt this on my bones, baby. and I know I've used the callsign Iris for a blurb once but imma use it again because it suits and I like it. :)
********************
Jakes shitting himself. Imagine it though— he’s in the locker room, zipping up his flight suit when Pete Mitchell slaps his hand down on Jake’s shoulder from behind. It scares the living shit out of him when he realises just who it is standing behind him.
“You have a good weekend Hangman—?” Mav asked as Jake turned to face him, eyes wide like he’s just been caught red handed and balls deep him Mavericks daughter.
“Huh?” Jakes trying to formulate a sentence to reply with, but he’s breaking out in a sweat, remembering just how fucked he knew he was when you introduced yourself a Lieutenant Mitchell. Pete Maverick Mitchell’s daughter. “Uh, sorry repeat the question sir?”
“I asked if you had a good weekend?” Pete always thought Jake was a little weird, a little overzealous and egotistical—but right this minute he could be considered a flight risk. With sweat practically dripping down his face and he looks over Pete’s shoulder to see his saving grace. Rooster.
“Yeah, yeah nah it was average—“ If you’d call fucking his captains daughter in the back of his truck average. That was a felony around here, a career ender, an act worthy of being lined up and executed point blank. “Listen, great chatting to you, But I gotta go—“ Mav doesn’t get a chance to even register what’s going on before Jake is hightailing it over towards Bradley, dragging him around the corner of the locker room with a clenched jaw and panicked eyes.
“Dude! What’s your problem!” Bradley’s hissing at Jake’s grip on his bicep. Being pulled away into a more discreet part of the men’s locker room.
“I’m gonna lose my fucking job—“ Bradley Bradshaw has never seen Jake Seresin so panicked before. He’s usually in control of every situation, every aspect of his life. But this? Whatever had him spooked must have been major because Bradley could see straight into Jake's soul, and he was terrified.
“What exactly did you do?”
“Not a what.” Jake groaned, smashing his fist against Fanboys stupid Star Wars themes locker or whatever the hell TV show he geeked over. “More like a who—“ Bradley’s not computing what Jake is trying to tell him. Watching as Jake turns, presses his back against the lockers, and slides towards the ground in complete and utter defeat. He can kiss this promotion goodbye and he hasn’t even made it through a full day.
“Can you be a little more specific? It’s too early to be deciphering codes.” Rooster just stands there, arms crossed as Jake lets his head rest against the flimsy doors of the lockers he’s resting up against—legs spread out.
“IfuckedMavsdaughter—“ Jake mumbles quickly and under his breath. Bradley only just makes out what he said as his eyes are blowing out of his head in pure shock. No, no this is too perfect.
“I’m sorry you did who?” Rooster needs to hear Jake say it clearly and as precisely as possible. “You did not!”
“I didn’t know she was Mavs daughter Rooster! You didn’t fucking tell me who she was!” Jake was right on that front, but Bradley wasn’t in the loop, when did spilling three entire schooners of alcohol on someone equates to fucking someone. “God! Do you know what he’s gonna do to me when he finds out? He’s gonna make my life a living hell!” Jake groans as he hits the back of his head against the locker in an act of self-pity.
“You fucked Y/n Iris Mitchell, he’s gonna hang you, Hangman.” Bradley loved this probably a little more than he should have. He knew his uncle all too well and he knew how protective he was of the daughter he didn’t know he had until you showed up at his doorstep one random Saturday afternoon. “He’s gonna string you up by your big toe on the flagpole—“
“I should just quiet before he has a chance to—“ Jakes squinting his eyes shut tight, all he can see is you riding him like you had nothing to lose in the back of his truck. He can feel your around him still, the tightest pussy he’s ever fucked. So warm and perfect and—young. Fuck, he should have know this would have eventually. “I’m a deadman walking.”
“Does she know who you are?” Bradley’s asking as he finally takes a knee and comes to sit against the lockers with his clearly distressed wingman. “Did you tell her you’re most likely her instructor? Her Lieutenant Commander?”
“Nope—“ Jake pops the P. “I was just gonna see how long I could go without running into her, avoid her at all costs.”
“Yeah something tells me that’s not gonna work.” Bradley chuckles, this is the best thing that’s ever happened to him. “But good luck man, honestly I’m rooting for you.” Rooster bumps his shoulder against Jakes as he stands. Looking down at the aviator having a clear existential crisis. “Stop sticking your dick into anything that moves at the Hard Deck—I’m honestly shocked something like this hasn’t happened sooner.”
“Can you just promise me that if I go missing you’ll tell the cops it was Mav?” Jake is as serious as he ever has been as he looks up at Rooster. “This is partly your fault to you big flightless bird—if I had been told, I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near her!” But all Bradley can do is laugh at Jake’s predicament.
“Sure thing pal, but she told you, you could have stopped and dealt with the blue balls—but I’m guessing the night didn’t end in the truck and you're big enough and ugly enough to deal with the consequences of your own actions.” Bradley feels like this whole situation is an early birth present. He’s beaming, smug even. Of course Jake fucked Mavs daughter, of course he did!  “I’ll see you out there.”
“You're a bad friend!” Jakes Shouting out as Bradley rounds the corner, he’s laughing as he shakes his head and exits the locker room only to run into you in the hall. Seeing an opportunity he just can’t resist passing up.
“Iris!” Bradley cooed, grabbing your attention as he jogs up beside you from behind, slinging a shoulder around you. “How’s induction day going so far?”
“I just came out of a lecture about weapons systems malfunctions with Lieutenant Commander Floyd.” You explained, pretty tickled pink with excitement that you were at TopGun. Not a lot of women got to experience such a feat. “He’s pretty intelligent.”
“Bobs great—“ Bradley had known you since you were about sixteen, but you weren’t all that close for two people who’d be considered non-biological siblings. “Hey listen, I heard you left the Hard Deck with Hangman the other night.”
“Who’s Hangman?” You asked as you stopped in your tracks. “And how do you know I left with som—“ All things considered, when Jake had told you that if Hawaiian shirts were what you were into, you should be talking to Bradley, you could have said that you saw him more like a brother than anything else. But you didn’t, you played along and said that guys with moustaches weren't your type. “Oh—no please Rooster I didn’t.” Bradley could see the look of realisation creeping across your face. You’d fucked one of your TopGun instructors, hadn't you? “No—please it’s April fools isn’t it?”
“It’s October Iris—“ Bradley smirked, his moustache working to devour his upper lip entirely as he does. “Mavs gonna kill him—“
“Fuck what Mavs gonna do to him Bradshaw! I’m gonna get kicked out of Miramar if the admirals find out what I’ve done!” You're a mess, Bradley chuckles, hey maybe you and Jake had a few things in common. Your inability to cope during existential crises being one of them. “This ain’t happening! I need to talk to him, where is he?”
“He’s probably still writing his resignation on the locker room flo—“ Before Bradley can finish your sentence, he’s watching as you make a b-line directly for the locker room he’d just come out of.
On the hunt for Lieutenant Commander Jake ‘Deadman’  Seresin.

i'm obsessed with you.
Tumblr media
Bradley "Rooster Bradshaw x F!Reader
summary: Jake is sick of Rooster pining over you & takes matters into his own hands.
anon request: I have a rooster request! I’m thinking a fic where hangman asks reader to the military ball and we get a jealous rooster
t/w: mentions of alcohol, jealous!Rooster, friend!Jake, cursing.
Rooster's engrossed with the video game in front of him, only halfway paying attention to what his roommate is talking about.
"Anyway, I just thought I'd ask you," Jake finishes and Rooster realizes Jake is waiting for an answer of some kind.
Shaking his head, he says, "Yeah, man, whatever."
Surprise flickers across the blonde's face, but Rooster is right back into the video game, not bothering to probe.
Jake pulls his phone from his pocket and begins feverishly typing.
A ping comes a second later, Jake lightly pumping his fist.
~
Rooster holds an arm open to you later that evening at the Hard Deck. You slide right into his hold, slipping your arm around his waist. Bringing his beer bottle to his lips, he lets his other hand casually rest on your shoulder. To an outsider, they would think the two of you were dating.
Rooster hasn't had the guts to make that a reality.
He's content to let the gang make fun of him being in love with his best friend. There is no point in denying it, they all know how much he adores you.
Everyone but you, of course.
"Did he tell you?" you ask Rooster after a few pleasant moments of being in one another's arms.
"Hmm?" he asks, eyeing the game going on at the pool table. Phoenix does her best to flirt with Bob, but he's oblivious. She lines up her shot, sending Bob a wink before pulling back and making contact with the cue. The 7 ball makes its destination.
"Jake?" you probe.
Rooster still hasn't computed.
"Jake? Did he tell you he's taking me to the military ball? Where is your head tonight?" you poke him in his stomach.
Rooster's world stops. Hangman asked you to the ball?
That's what Jake was asking him this afternoon? If he could take you to the ball?
You always go to the ball with Rooster.
"Did you agree?" Rooster asks, knowing full well you did. Why else would Hangman have done that stupid little fist pump?
You shrug the shoulder against his torso, like it's no big deal. "Well, yeah. I know you and I always go together, but he told me he'd talked to you about it. You said it was fine." You're looking at him, your brows knitting together.
Of course you're confused. Hangman did talk to Rooster about it. Rooster had agreed. Because Rooster wasn't paying fucking attention.
And now he's fucking pissed.
Hangman joins the two of you. "Thanks for letting me borrow your girl." The grin he gives Rooster is dangerously close to the teasing grins he used to dish out before the two men squashed their animosity.
Rooster feels your chuckle against his body.
"We're just friends, Jake," you tell him. The blonde's eyebrow slightly raises. Rooster knows you missed it, but he sure as shit didn't.
The pain in Rooster's stomach at the word friend is almost too much to bare. Hearing that word was almost as disgusting as hearing how 'Jake' sounded coming from your pretty lips. Almost flirtatiously.
How could you be so blind to his feelings?
Was it because you liked Jake?
You and Hangman could get pretty flirty, but he usually kept it tame, keeping Rooster's feelings somewhat in mind. Hangman was a pretty touchy flirt, but he always kept his hands to himself.
Now the only thing Rooster can think about is Jake pulling you into him on the dance floor, spinning you around to the music. Or standing there, a possessive arm around your waist as he and Mav discuss the latest fucking Game of Thrones episode.
Rooster is beginning to find it quite hard to keep his anger at bay. What the fuck happened to the bro code?
Hangman watches Rooster intensely.
"What color will your dress be? I bet you're going to look so beautiful," Jake turns his attention to you, and Rooster's casual hold on you becomes tighter. More possessive. Just like Jake's hold will be at the ball.
"Oh, I haven't decided, maybe navy?" you say dreamily. You're supposed to be wearing a pretty, navy dress with Rooster, not Hangman.
The only thing keeping him going is your arm still locked around his waist.
Jake steps a little closer, his hand reaching out to take a stand of your H/C hair in between his fingers.
This does it.
Rooster snaps. "Do not touch her." He jerks you back, and your hair slips out of Hangman's hold.
You push yourself back from Rooster, taking in the men, your eyes wide.
Jake and Rooster stare one another down. Rooster takes in his 'friend,' noting the challenge behind his eyes.
"Come on, man," Hangman pushes.
Rooster feels like hitting him, but he knows the repercussions he'd have with Mav won't be worth it. Still, his hand curls in and out of a fist at his side.
One punch. Right against that perfect fucking jaw.
"Tell her," he mouths.
Confusion replaces his anger as quickly as it set in moments before.
Rooster turns toward you. You trade glances between the two men. Jake jerks his head toward you.
Words escape the man as he takes you in. The naivety across your features cause him to melt. Rooster swears you are the most adorable thing on the planet.
“I don’t want you to go the the ball with Hangman,” Rooster tells you. “I want you to go with me.”
“But—“ you begin, but Rooster cuts you off.
“Because I’m fucking obsessed with you.”
Your mouth falls open, and a sweet flush falls on your cheeks. “What?”
Rooster steps toward you, a newfound confidence coursing through his veins. He takes your face into his hands, craning your face up. He hovers his mouth over yours, pausing to relish in the fact that he has you so close. Savoring this moment as long as he can.
Before he can chicken out, he kisses you. Pulling you as close as he can before it becomes inappropriate, he deepens the kiss. You clutch his waist, gripping his t-shirt between your fingers.
When the kiss breaks, the two of you stare at one another, breathing heavy.
Hangman smacks Rooster on the back. "Atta boy! Been concocting this plan for weeks."
Jake gives the both of you a wide grin, and saunters toward the bar.
a/n: this request totally inspired me! I hope y'all like it!

Idea
After the mission, Jake apologizes to Mav and Bradley about bringing up the Goose incident, and explains that he was just trying to get Bradley to fly faster and better in a fucked up way. They both forgive him, and Bradley thinks maybe now they can both be good wingmen to each other.
However, that's not the case. Although Jake still hangs around the Dagger Squad and gets closer to them, he's hesitant around Bradley. Not enough for most people to notice, he's still a sarcastic asshole, but he's wary around Bradley and Bradley doesn't know why.
Jake is actually still hurt about the time at the Hard Deck when Bradley told him, "Hangman, the only place you'll lead anyone is an empty grave." Bradshaw brought up one of his greatest losses when he was just joking around. It hurt. He knew that the proper thing to do is talk about it, but instead he just keeps Bradshaw at a distance and watches him to make sure that the other man won't randomly lose his temper. He's only accepted in the Dagger Squad because he saved Rooster and Mav's lives, he won't fuck that up by accusing Rooster of being an ass about something that happened months ago. Rooster probably didn't even remember.
He was right, Rooster didn’t remember. Just that they were making jabs at each other.
Rooster is talking to Mav and Ice about Hangman being distant and Mav just tells him to give Hangman time to get used to having a team.
Ice starts hanging around the Top Gun base more, and eventually starts building rapport with the Dagger Squad. Especially Lieutenant Jake "Hangman" Seresin who seems to really look up at him. However, unlike others who do, Seresin can actually hold a conversation and doesn't just hang on his every word and treat him like some kind of god. Ice likes the kid.
(Ice thinks the Dagger Squad knows about his marriage with Mav and how he raised Bradley. Dagger Squad does not know.)
Eventually, Ice asks about his relationship with Rooster and Jake spills the whole thing about what Bradley said, and the lost of his former wingman. Ice is livid. He confronts Rooster about it, and tells Bradley to apologize and to better watch his temper.
When Bradley does, Jake asks how he knows about that stuff. Bradley said Ice did and how his uncle is always trying to make sure wingmen stick together.
Instead of being comforted about this, Jake feels betrayed. Betrayed that sometimes he told Ice in confidence was just out and about now and becomes upset about it and walks away. He feels stupid for not realizing that IceMav was a thing and that Bradley was their pseudo-son, and thinks that Ice just wanted to get close to him, so that Dagger Squad would stay together.
Jake starts distancing himself from Ice and starts withdrawing from the team.
Everything eventually gets straightened out with some intervention from Mav, Javy, and the rest of the Dagger Squad. Mav by telling Jake that Ice just likes to fix things, and accidentally oversteps. Javy by threatening Bradley to never ever say shit like that to Jake again. Ice then apologizes to Jake and tells him he just found Bradley's behavior unacceptable and didn't mean to overstep. Jake accepts the apology and they both start bonding again.
Bradley and Jake start becoming true wingmen not only in the air, but also on the ground.
Happy ending, Dagger Squad + IceMav all vibing together.

Headcanon Series #16
Ice and Mav finally get their shit together after the Uranium mission. Don't ask me how, theories in the comments. Anyway, they kiss in public - on base or something, it looked very dramatic - they become a couple and the next morning Ice walks into the building he works in (enter important navy office) and half the officers he passes look very pissed at him, ready to bite his head off. Especially older ones he's known since the 90s or so. Most of them grumble some unfriendly sounding greetings into his direction. Some of the younger ones though smile at him with such happiness and sometimes clap his shoulder or congrate him, he can't really comprehend what's happening.
He shrugs it off and enters his office, only to find out his long time secretary and dear friend Mrs. Lesser is about to leave. For a vacation. She's never taken a vacation before. Sure, some free time over the holidays or when Ice took a break from work, but never longer than a couple days. Now she's gone for a few weeks.
The weird events continue when two hours later, a mad looking Admiral Hanson stands in his door and rants something about Tom being childish and stupid and how he could do such a thing. "Seriously, Tom. All those years and now you gotta pull a stunt like that? I thought better of you."
After the third officer passing his office and muttering something among the lines of "Really great, Kazansky," Tom calls for a meeting. He's the COMPACFLT after all. He outranks most people in the building. And this seems rather serious.
"Gentlemen, I am at loss for words. Your overall behaviour today has not only been out of line for work but also simply disrespectful. If this has anything to do with the events from yesterday, I can only say I am disappointed. We are professionals and the government, the state and the people depend on our work. We can't let something from any of our private lifes affect us like this. We're grown men and we should be able to handle such things like grown men. We can only function as a united front."
There's an audible huff at the other end of the table, coming from Admiral Marcus. "Easy to say for you, you got the guy you've been thirsting over for the last 40 years, I lost about 200$ because of you and Mitchell." Admiral James, who sits next to him elbows him. Tom's eyebrow start to wander. "How exactly do you loose 200$ because of me? Please, elaborate."
Opposite from Marcus and James, Admiral Cameron pulls a thick folder from under the table and slides it over to Tom. Whispers and even gasps erupt. "It's over, so he might as well know now."
Tom opens the folder and is greeted with a long list of people, dates that reach back to the 80's and huge amounts of cash written down. Between the pages are various copied documents of conversations between him and Mav, pictures of them together on various occasions and hand-scribbled notes with more dates and different statements on them. Tom's eyebrows almost disappear in his hairline. "What is this?", he quietly asks, afraid of an honest answer.
Cameron sighs and speaks up: "Some guys from your Topgun Class apparently started this in 86'. It was about when you and Mitchell would get your shit together and do something against that unresolved tension between the two of you. They expanded their list with every squadron you both were in because you guys weren't subtle at all but also extremly stupid and the rest got a kick out of betting who'd give in first and when this would happen. At the ceremony in the 00's, when you got your stars, an Admiral got a hold on the list and decided to join. He brought it over here and no-one couldn't really resist. And now we heard of you and Mitchell eventually putting an end to this. Of course people are pissed, they bet way to high on the wrong guy or year!"
Tom's eyes skim down the list. It seems like every person he's known inside the Navy has their name written down on the yellowing paper. He spots Mrs. Lesser on there and let's out a surprised chuckle. "Marywas really good. Got almost 3000$ out of this. No wonder she's on vacation." He drages his hand over his face to regain some grip on the situation.
"I can't even- how did you manage to hide this from me for so long?", is the only question he gets out. James laughs. "We're the military. We have our ways." By now the whole table is chuckling or whispering in amusement. Tom can only shake his head, but also smiles. "Can I take this home? I need this in a proper display on my office wall. Or maybe over the dinner table. And you are all invited to an apology-BBQ."
Okay, I know this was weird, but in my head I can see so many people in the Navy that just see Pete and Tom working together and they think like "Yeah, these two are totally gonna end up together." I love people shipping IceMav, I'm sorry.

Slider has always known, Slider has eyes and a functioning enough brain to realize that Ice is completely obsessed with Maverick, Slider knows things, he’s the guy that’s always there
The first time they properly met Maverick Slider could already tell that he would be a pain in his ass, Ice started that flirty teasing, Slider knew that Ice meant for it to sound mean, he wanted to rile him up and play his game, but something about it was just off, the tension was way too thick for it to go unnoticed, he always wandered if Goose could feel it too. Still, he didn’t say anything, Ice could figure it out later
The bite was just unnecessary, Slider could tell that Mav was just as invested in this as his pilot was, they were dancing around each other like a weird fucking mating ritual, then Ice decides to do a bite, he obviously meant for it to be threatening, he knows that, but to Slider it just looked really gay, but he doesn’t bring it up, he shouldn’t bring it up, right? Ice trusts him. He still tries to push it, he asks him if he’s ok, that he needs to be careful and concentrate on their goal, Ice looks at him like he’s trying to figure something out, he turns and says “don’t worry about me, I know what I’m doing”
He does not in fact not what he’s doing, he catches feelings, it’s not just attraction, it’s not about sex, no, Ice cares about Maverick, Slider sees it in the way that he looks at him, he sees how much Ice wants to comfort Mav, how he looks at him when they get in their planes, how he tries to make sure he’s ok, that he’s safe, he cares, not just as a pilot
They make it back and Ice and Mav get worse, he truly didn’t think it was possible, “you can be my wingman any time” “bullshit you can be mine” that shit might as well be a love confession, and Slider realizes that it’s not just Ice that caught feeling, they’re both in love. But they don’t talk about it, Slider doesn’t bring it up, Ice will tell him, he knows that when he’s ready he’ll tell him
Slider is getting tired of waiting, it’s been about five years since they graduated top gun and Slider is getting really tired of this bullshit, sometimes Ice can’t hang out because he needs to “do something” Slider thinks that’s a weird nickname for Mav, sometimes when they all get together Ice will sit next to Mav, close enough so that their shoulders touch and they’ll spend the night talking to each other, laughing at secret jokes and looking at each other like they’re the most precious thing they’ve ever seen, Slider decides that he’s limiting the time Ice has to finally tell him, he really can’t take more of this “we think we’re great at keeping secrets” little act
A year later Slider has had a enough, Ice is buying groceries and Slider goes with him and when he sees Ice pick up some disgustingly sweet cookies he knows something’s up, Ice doesn’t like those cookies, so he asks, and Ice casually says “oh, Mav loves them” and he snaps, this cannot keep going, so he grabs him by the shoulders and looks him dead in the eye and tells him “I swear to god… I swear to fucking god Kazansky that if you don’t tell me that you’re fucking Maverick then I’m going to walk away and you’ll never hear from me again, I’ve had 6 years of you two being all stupid and in love and I have reached my limit, why won’t you fucking tell me, just tell me, please” Ice freezes, he opens and closes his mouth several times before he takes a deep breath, nods and shrugs “I’m fucking Maverick” Slider let’s out a sigh and pulls Ice into a hug “thank god for that” and it’s finally over
It’s not over, Slider soon finds out that knowing about Ice and Mav without them knowing that he knows is way better than knowing about them and them knowing he knows, because now he actually has to play “best friend of your boyfriend”, he’s the guy Mav asks what to get Ice for his birthday, he’s the guy that Ice whines to about Mav, he’s the guy that has lied countless times for their asses, he’s the guy that needs to be there when Ice wants to propose, he’s the guy that has to endure hours of ring shopping with an insufferably nervous Ice, he’s the guy that has to execute their proposal plan to perfection, yes, even when Ice decides to change it last minute, he’s the guy that needs to make sure that their little backyard wedding is absolutely perfect, he’s the guy that has to write the greatest best man speech anyone has ever heard, he’s the guy that has to give all his parenting advices to Ice when Bradley comes into their lives, he’s the guy that has to tell Bradley all the embarrassing stories about them, he’s the guy that has to help Bradley sneak out of their house to go to a party, he’s the guy that has to be there for Ice when Bradley leaves, he’s the guy that has to help Mav deal with Ice’s cancer, he’s the guy that hugs Ice until neither of them can breath when he’s officially cancer free, he’s the guy that has to give an even better best man speech when they get married again, legally this time, he’s the guy that cries his eyes out when Ice gets his second diagnosis, he’s the guy that holds his hand when he’s dying, he’s the guy that has to be there at the funeral to make sure everything’s in order, just like Ice would’ve wanted it, he’s the guy that has to shake hands with people he doesn’t know because “yes he was a great guy”, he’s the guy that has to make sure Mav is alright after Ice is gone
He’s the guy, he’s always known and he’s always been there

That Lovin' Feelin' - Goose
Pairing: Nick "Goose" Bradshaw / Mitchell! Fem! OC | Reader
Word Count: 4.3k
Warnings: Intense Mutual Pining, Obliviousness, Suggestive Language, Second Person ("You") POV but No Use of Y/N
This work, all of my other works, and my entire blog are 18+ Only.
Summary: You may or may not have a big fat crush on your brother's best friend. And Goose may or may not have a big fat crush on you. Luckily for both of you, Maverick is completely oblivious.
[Reader is mentioned to be a woman, but there is no description of anything appearance wise. Reader is Maverick's twin sister and a nurse at the naval hospital.]
A.N. Set during Top Gun (the O Club Scene). In this work, let's just imagine that Goose and Carole never crossed paths and Carole is off living her best life elsewhere. Absolutely no shade to Carole, just wanted some Goose love. And I guess sorry Bradley for wiping away your existence.
Part 2 Part 3
Master List
Tumblr media
It was a sunny, warm day in Miramar and you just wanted some peace and quiet on your day off. But there was no such thing as a quiet day off when your horrifically annoying twin brother was in town to attend TOP GUN. Just as you flipped to a new page, you heard the distinct sound of Goose’s car pulling up your short driveway.
And three seconds later, the back door opened and Maverick stepped out.
“There you are,” he stated, holding the door open for Goose.
“Yes, I was, in fact, missing from my own house. Thank you for finding me,” you muttered, not even glancing up from your book. “And aren’t you two supposed to be at training right now?”
“It was just introductions,” Maverick replied, dropping into the seat across from you.
“Pete Mitchell, if you dare put your dirty boots on my coffee table,” you warned him, picking your head up from the book. Maverick’s foot hovered just an inch above the coffee table until Goose pushed it aside so that he could sit down in the other seat. “Why are you even here? You have your own houses, go do stupid shit there.”
“We were going to go to lunch and because I’m a nice brother who remembered that you have today off, I decided to stop over here to ask you if you wanted to come,” Maverick replied, gesturing innocently to himself. “And this is the thanks I get?”
“Pass,” you huffed, turning back to your book.
“Mav will pay,” Goose stated, causing you to slowly pick your head up.
“Well, now you’re speaking my language.”
Maverick scoffed and nudged Goose in the side before standing up from his chair. You shared a small smile with Goose before turning to your brother.
“We leave in five minutes. Come on, I’m hungry,” Maverick replied, urging you to your feet. “Get dressed into real people clothes.”
“Real people clothes?” you scoffed, glaring over at Maverick. “Hey, Pete, I read something quite interesting in this book that might interest you.”
“What?”
You pulled out your middle finger from behind your book, earning another eye roll from Maverick. He waved his hand dismissively and headed inside, undoubtedly to raid your fridge even though you were about to head out to lunch.
“Who pissed in his cornflakes this morning?” you asked, slowly getting to your feet.
“I think one of the other pilots threw him off a bit,” Goose replied, sending you a smile that had your heart fluttering. “I wouldn’t worry about it.”
“Alright,” you agreed, nodding slowly. “Thanks, Goosie.”
“Anytime.”
Goose got up from his seat and turned towards the door. You thanked Goose as he held the door open for your before darting inside, trying to hide your ridiculously awkward behavior from him. Walking quickly to your bedroom, you closed the door and leaned against it for a moment.
“Really smooth,” you scolded yourself, shaking your head. “One of these days, he’s going to say something. And you’re going to be fucked. And not in the way you want to be.”
It wasn’t like you planned to have an uncontrollable schoolgirl crush on your brother’s best friend. You didn’t ask for it. It just happened. And you tried to push it out of your mind—you went on other dates and saw other guys—but the second that Nick Bradshaw walked back into Miramar, it was like all of that personal growth just went out the window.
Thankfully, Goose was too nice to say anything about it. And Maverick was too arrogant and self-centered to notice the looks that you threw in Goose’s direction. But one of these days, Goose was going to say something and Maverick was going to be pissed at you.
As if you needed more problems in your life.
Tossing your book onto your bed, you walked over to your drawers and pulled out a simple tee shirt and a pair of jean shorts fit for the hot summer weather. Quickly pulling on a pair of beaten-up Converse, you grabbed your purse and headed out into the main part of your house, where Goose and Maverick were waiting for you.
“Alright, I’m ready to go.”
“Finally,” Maverick sighed, hopping off the counter.
You rolled your eyes at Maverick before turning to grab your keys off the hook. Pulling the set of car keys out of the way, you grabbed your house keys and moved to shove them into your purse. But when the edge of the key ring caught on the zipper of your purse, the keys dropped to the ground.
“Dammit,” you muttered, bending down to grab them.
Goose, meanwhile, who was standing right behind you, quickly averted his gaze as the denim of your shorts rode up just a little higher than normal. He knew from personal experience that if he didn’t look away immediately, he wasn’t going to look away. And Maverick could be a little slow, but if Goose openly stared at your ass like he wanted to take a bite out of it, even Maverick would notice.
“Alright, let’s go,” you stated, straightening up.
Goose smacked himself lightly on the cheek to remind himself to focus before heading out of the house behind you and Maverick.
After lunch, Maverick managed to convince you to go along with their shenanigans for the rest of the day. Including—to your complete frustration—a night out at the O Club.
But you had the day off tomorrow as well, so you were running out of excuses.
Applying some bright red lipstick, you straightened up in your bathroom and made some last-minute adjustments. You weren’t going to actually go out searching for anything tonight, but that didn’t mean that you couldn’t have a little fun. It was nice to be complimented and to feel like an actual woman rather than a blob of scrubs once in a while.
Satisfied with your appearance, you grabbed your purse and walked out to your living room to wait for Goose and Maverick to come around and pick you up. Pulling on a pair of strappy heels, you picked your head up when you heard the Bronco coming around the corner again. Locking up your house, you trotted down to where Goose pulled over.
“Hey,” you called, pulling the back door open. Noticing the uniforms that Goose and Maverick were wearing, you managed a small, bashful smile when you caught Goose’s eye. “You pulled out the summer whites for the occasion?”
“Have to look the part,” Maverick answered instead, completely oblivious to the look that you were sending Goose.
“Right,” you drawled, leaning back in your seat.
You glanced out the window as Goose discreetly fixed his rearview mirror to give him a slightly better view of you in a dress that he hadn’t seen you in before. Clearing his throat to remind himself that he needed to focus on the road and not the hints of your breasts that were outlined by the particular cut of the dress, Goose put the car in drive.
The O Club was packed full by the time that you, Goose, and Maverick arrived. You stuck close to Goose, who was tall enough that he could see over most of the crowd, as Maverick and Goose surveyed over the patrons.
“This is what I call a target rich environment,” Maverick stated with a wide smirk.
You immediately reached over and smacked your brother on the back of his head, causing him to whine and shoot you a glare as he rubbed the tender skin.
“You deserved it. I’m not going to apologize,” you stated before heading for the bar.
“You live your life between your legs, Mav,” Goose added, squeezing Maverick’s shoulder before following after you.
“Goose, even you could get laid in a place like this,” Maverick replied, patting Goose on the back.
“I’m telling you; I’d be happy to find a girl to talk dirty to me.”
That line caused you to momentarily pause, which resulted in Goose running into the back of you. Goose grabbed your arm to steady you and you tried to not buckle under his concerned gaze. Your eyes widened at your newfound proximity as Goose shot you an apologetic smile.
“Sorry, honey.”
“It’s not your fault. It’s crowded in here,” you mumbled out bashfully.
You cleared your throat and turned back for the bar, reminding yourself to keep cool. Goose and Maverick stepped up beside you at the bar and ordered their beers. When the bartender turned to you, you requested a bit of a stronger beverage to get you through the evening. At least that way, if you did something stupid, you could blame it on the alcohol.
The bartender placed Maverick and Goose’s drinks down first before walking off to grab the ingredients for your drink. You fiddled with your fingers and looked up when Goose spoke up.
“Mav, you know who the best is? That’s him, Iceman,” Goose stated, gesturing across the bar.
You and Maverick turned in sync to the man in question. He was tall and dressed in the same uniform as Maverick and Goose with a solid tan and frosted tips. But you were more focused on the fact that he was wearing sunglasses inside at night like a douche bag and that the glass that he was drinking from had an obscene amount of ice in it.
Well, at least he lived up to his callsign.
“It’s the way he flies. Ice cold. No mistakes. He just wears you down, you get bored, frustrated, you do something stupid, and he’s got you,” Goose explained, taking a swig from his beer.
You smiled at the bartender and thanked him when he placed your drink down in front of you. Pulling your drink back to you and taking a sip, you turned around when Goose called out to another aviator that was walking over to this side of the bar.
“Hey, hey, Slider,” Goose chuckled, grabbing onto the set of wings on Slider’s uniform, “I thought that you wanted to be a pilot, man, what happened?”
“Goose, you’re such a dickhead. Whose butt did you kiss to get in here, huh?” Slider asked, tilting his chin up.
“Well, the list is long but distinguished,” Goose joked, playing along.
“Yeah, well so is my Johnson,” Slider replied, knocking back a shot.
Setting the glass down on the bar, Slider set his sights on you. Slider sent you a smirk that both Goose and Maverick immediately noticed and did not appreciate.
“And it is available,” Slider added, sending you a wink.
“Yeah, well, she’s not,” Goose stated, causing Slider to turn to him.
“She’s my sister, Kerner, so keep your mitts off of her,” Maverick replied, earning an eyeroll from you.
“But you said that your Johnson is both long and distinguished?” you asked Slider, taking a long sip of your drink as you toyed with all three aviators at once.
Maverick and Goose whipped around to shoot your exasperated and incredulous looks, which you promptly ignored. After all, it wasn’t like you were actually going to consider going home with Slider. You didn’t want anything to do with the whole TOP GUN bullshit. But that didn’t mean that you couldn’t mess with Maverick after he was such a little shit to you.
“She’s not serious,” Maverick stated, grabbing you and tugging you closer to him.
“I’m just trying to make conversation,” you replied, shrugging your shoulders. Turning back to Goose and Slider, who seemed to be having some kind of territorial staring contest, you gestured between them. “So, how do you two know each other?”
“We went to the Academy together,” Goose explained, still shooting Slider a death glare.
“You’re a RIO then?” you asked Slider.
“He flies with Iceman,” Goose answered before Slider could.
“That’s Mr. Iceman to you,” Slider corrected Goose before gesturing over to his pilot.
“Hey, Mother Goose, how’s it going?” Ice greeted him.
Iceman stepped up and offered Goose a genuine smile as he reached over to shake Goose’s hand. Goose broke his staring contest with Slider to return Ice’s polite greeting.
“I’m doing good, Tom,” Goose replied before gesturing over to Maverick. “This is Pete Mitchell. Pete, this is Tom Kazansky.”
While Maverick and Ice exchanged their quips and attempts to feel each other out, you simply sipped at your drink, a bit bored to be honest. You glanced up when Goose stepped in front of you, blocking you from Slider’s view, before turning back to the exchange between Maverick and Ice.
“Mav, you must have sold under a lucky star, huh?” Slider asked, causing the group to turn to him. “First, the MiG and then you guys slide into Cougar’s spot.”
“Hey, we didn’t slide into Cougar’s spot, it was ours, okay?” Goose stated, squaring up to Slider again.
“Yeah, well some pilots wait their whole careers just to see a MiG up close,” Slider stated, picking up another shot. “Guess you guys are lucky and famous, huh?”
“No, you mean notorious,” Ice corrected his RIO before setting his sights on you. Identifying you as a target, since you were sandwiched in between Goose and Maverick, Ice offered you a flirtatious smile. “If you want to hang out with a real group of aviators, we’ll be over there.” Ice turned back to Maverick and Goose, who were both now glaring daggers into his skull. “I’ll see you two around.”
“You can count on it,” Maverick stated pointedly.
“Bye,” you called after them, earning a pinch in your side from Maverick.
“They were abused children,” Goose stated, leaning on the bar with a dead serious expression.
“Goose!” you admonished, nudging him in the side.
“What?”
“That’s so rude,” you scolded him, though you couldn’t help the smile or light giggle that escaped.
“Then why are you laughing, honey?” Goose shot back.
He smiled at you in a way that instantly had your heart fluttering. But Maverick, ever the oblivious and indirect cockblock, broke the moment.
“We’re going to have a good time,” Maverick stated, holding up his drink.
You clinked your drinks together before Goose and Maverick turned to survey the rest of the bar. You, however, were sneaking not very subtle looks in Goose’s direction. It wasn’t your fault that he looked that good in his fancy white uniform.
But, of course, as soon as Maverick set his sights on some poor woman across the way, you were on your own once again. And that was why you never came out to the bars with your brother. Picking up your drink, you were about to head to a booth or a seat elsewhere when Ice swooped in, cutting off your escape.
“I don’t believe that I caught your name earlier,” Ice stated, leaning on the bar with a confident smirk.
“I don’t believe that I gave you my name earlier,” you replied calmly, turning to face Ice. You set your drink down and retook your seat. “But I know that you’re Iceman.”
“Hard to forget a face like mine,” Ice remarked, causing you to let out an amused noise.
“Did you practice that one in the mirror?”
“I can see the resemblance. Between you and your brother,” Ice stated, earning a sharp look from you.
“What do you want from me?” you asked, getting straight to the point.
“I just wanted to talk. To get to know you.”
“You wanted to get to know my brother, actually,” you corrected Ice, twirling your drink around on the bar top. “You know, so that you can win the TOP GUN trophy and everything since he’s most likely your biggest competition.”
“I’m horrified that you think that I would use a lady’s attention for such nefarious purposes,” Ice drawled, causing you to playfully roll your eyes. “Really, I’m hurt. And I hear that you’re a nurse, so I think that you can help me get better, right?”
Ice leaned in closer, but you didn’t back down. You held his gaze confidently and reached for your drink.
“Is my brother glaring holes into the side of your head right now?” you asked, taking casual a sip.
“Yeah, but your personal bodyguard is going to get over here first,” Ice remarked, causing you to raise an eyebrow.
“Who?”
“Hey,” Goose called loudly, causing you and Ice to turn to him, “what are we talking about over here, huh? Let me just . . .” Goose situated himself in between Ice and you, causing Ice to shoot you an amused look. “So, what were we talking about?”
“Nothing too scandalous,” Ice replied, standing up straighter. He turned to you with a friendly smirk. “But I should get going. It was nice meeting you. And I’ll see you tomorrow, Goose.”
Ice walked off, leaving Goose and you alone. Goose waited a moments before turning urgently to you.
“Did he say anything to you?” Goose asked quietly, looking concerned.
“No, he was just messing with me. He just wants to get in Maverick’s head,”you replied, dismissing Goose’s concern. But when Goose didn’t change his expression, you leaned forward and grabbed his shoulder. “I’m fine, Goosie. He’s hardly the first cocky aviator that I’ve dealt with.”
“You sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure, Nick.”
You offered Goose a small smile, twisting in your bar seat. Goose nodded in return, though he still looked a bit on edge as he glanced around the O Club. He leaned in closer to you to keep his voice low and still be heard over the music of the club. And if he noticed how your eyes widened slightly and your breath caught in your throat, he didn’t mention it.
“And by the way, I would stay away from Slider too. Trust me, he stinks. Never uses soap. Hardly ever does his laundry and—”
“—Goose,” you interjected, cutting off his ramble about Slider’s unkemptness, “I wasn’t going to go home with Slider.”
“You weren’t?” Goose asked, looking more than a little relieved.
“No, I was just messing with my brother,” you assured Goose, taking another sip of your drink. “And besides, I generally avoid going out with guys who make any sort of announcements about their genitals during the first five seconds of me knowing them.”
“Oh, okay,” Goose breathed out, a small easygoing smile returning to his lips.
You and Goose shared a small smile before Goose turned in his seat so that he was facing the bar. He gestured to your drink, which was starting to run low.
“Did you want another drink?”
“That depends,” you replied, twirling your straw around. “How long do you think we’ll still be here for?”
“I don’t know,” Goose answered honestly, glancing around the bar. “Mav sort of ran off with a woman, but I’m not really sure how that’s going.”
“I don’t want to know how that’s going,” you stated, wrinkling your nose in disgust.
“Then we’ll get you another drink,” Goose decided, causing you to smile and nod.
“Alright, Goosie, you’ve convinced me.”
Goose flagged down the bartender and ordered them both another round. The bartender placed your drinks down and Goose and you clinked them together before falling back into a conversation. There was still no sign of Maverick anywhere, so you entertained yourselves.
“Anything fun happening down at the hospital?” Goose asked, causing you to snort.
“I don’t want to disgust you.”
“Hey, hey, I’m a tough guy, I can handle it,” Goose replied, earning a light chuckle.
“Didn’t one of the nurses have to hold you down when you got a shot?” you asked, twisting your lips into a well-meaning smirk.
“It was a huge needle,” Goose exaggerated, causing you to laugh. “I was hardly the only guy who walked out of there a little paler than they were when they went in there.” Goose took a sip of his beer before pointing a figure over at you. “And Mav wasn’t supposed to tell anyone about that.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone else,” you assured Goose, reaching for your drink.
You glanced around at the bar, taking a long sip. And you were completely unaware of the way that Goose was staring at you. How closely he was analyzing the way that your bright red lips wrapped around the straw. Or how he noticed that the way that you leaned forward gave him a better peak of your cleavage.
Tugging at his collar, Goose forced himself to look away and chugged some of his beer.
“Do you have work tomorrow?” Goose asked, trying to move to a very professional conversation topic.
“No, this is technically my ‘weekend,’” you replied, making air quotes with your fingers. “So, I don’t work tomorrow, but then I work three days straight after that.”
“Sorry that we’ve been dragging you around with us on your day off,” Goose offered, causing you to send him a small smile.
“It’s not all bad,” you assured him, tilting your head to the side. “It’s nice to catch up with you. You guys, I mean. It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other.”
“Seven months,” Goose agreed, tapping his fingers on the bar top.
“Yeah, it’s been a while,” you stated softly. You locked eyes with Goose and flicked your tongue out between your lips to catch the last drop of your sip, which Goose, of course, noticed. “Any big plans for you shore leave?”
“Maybe a few,” Goose replied, causing you to perk up.
“Like what?”
“Uh . . .” Goose trailed off awkwardly, trying to come up with something off the top of his head that was actually appropriate to say aloud to you, “. . . I really wanted to catch up on the movies that I missed.” You nodded slowly, causing Goose to sweat a bit. “You know me and movies.”
“Right,” you held out, raising a slightly suspicious eyebrow. “Well, if you want, there’s this drive-in place nearby that just opened up.”
“You ever been before?” Goose asked, causing you to shake your head.
“No, I haven’t. My coworker recommended it to me.”
“Did you want to go some time?” Goose offered softly, earning a wide doe-eyed look from you.
“Me?” you asked, gesturing to yourself.
“Yeah, you,” Goose laughed, trying to hide the fact that he was most definitely sweating through his shirt. “Who else?”
You opened your mouth, trying to find a way to respond to Goose’s offer that was appropriate and not at all desperate, when Charlie, the woman that Maverick serenaded earlier on the other side of the bar, walked by you.
“Your friend was magnificent,” Charlie stated confidently.
Goose sat up and watched Charlie walk away. You gagged when you noticed your brother walking over with a pleased smirk.
“You’re disgusting, you know that?” you huffed, shooting Maverick a look.
“What the hell did Ice want?” Maverick asked, quickly changing the topic of conversation.
“Nothing.”
You reached for your drink and pulled the straw out. Bringing the cup to your lips, you chugged the rest of it, earning an eye roll from Maverick and an amazed look from Goose. But then Goose caught the sight of the condensation from the outside of the glass rolling down your neck and got distracted again. Setting the glass down on the bar top, you turned back to Goose and Maverick.
“Can we go then? I’d prefer to not see you accost anyone else in this place,” you stated, standing up from your seat.
“Yeah, let’s go.”
They paid off their tabs before heading out to the car. Goose drove you back to your house, trying to not sink in his seat when he still lacked any answer to his offer. You didn’t look at him, staring out the window, and chatting casually with Maverick. Pulling up alongside your house, Goose put the car in park and smiled back at you. You returned it, leaning forward a bit.
“Thanks for driving, Goosie.” Turning to the both of them, you reined in the more schoolgirl-like bashfulness. “I’ll see you guys later.”
“Have a good night,” Goose replied softly.
“I’ll call you if we’re going something,” Maverick offered as you got out of the Bronco.
“Sounds good,” you agreed, shutting the door behind you. Looking past your brother, who had his window rolled down, you offered Goose a shy smile. “And if you wanted to go to the drive-in, just . . . let me know.”
“The drive-in?” Maverick asked, confused and oblivious.
“I’ll—we’ll,” Goose caught himself, “we’ll do that, yeah.”
But the smile that he sent you next clearly communicated that he would call you. And that maybe he would forget to invite Maverick along. And then maybe you would forget to suggest for Maverick to come along too. And then you would just accidentally go to the drive-in, just the two of you. And maybe Maverick would just never hear about it.
“I’d like that,” you agreed, adding to Maverick’s confusion. “I’ll see you guys later. Goodnight.”
“Night,” Maverick and Goose echoed.
They waited until you were safely inside your house before Goose put the car back into drive. Maverick frowned a bit, thinking over your strange words.
“Drive-in?” he asked Goose, who stared straight ahead to not give anything away.
“I wouldn’t worry about it,” Goose stated, waving his hand to the side. “Maybe she was just tipsy.”

So, hear me out. Bradley knows about the Iceman but doesn't know him.
He's the friend Uncle Mav takes for important dinners once in a blue moon, and Bradley feels awkward around him because the man is tall, even if not the tallest man in his young life, and even if his mom tells him to go say hi, he hides behind Mav's leg and spends most of the night looking out at this man like he is some sort of mythical creature who not only knew his dad, Nick, but flew with him too. There's a picture in moma's bedroom of the five of them: moma, dad, uncle Mav, uncle Slider, and the Iceman.
Iceman is the man that Bradley hates a little bit because when he ships out, Uncle Slider wakes up at actual dawn, and Bradley can never get back to sleep because then his mom gets up too, and Uncle Mav really really tries to walk around on his tips when he comes through the door with him, but Bradley is awake. And it's too soon for him. So he has the right to hate him a little bit because of that.
In the years to come, the Iceman is going to be a voice over the phone, a sporadic presence over their table, and the person who will make Uncle Slider, who he calls Papa these days, cry like a baby the day he and his mom got married. And he's going to be the person with whom Uncle Mav sometimes disappears for weeks at a time, sometimes even months, coming back generally more tanned and happy than Bradley can remember him even being. He is the man who sends letters and postcards that his mom pins on the fridge and the man who makes his Papa leave the house at 2 am because his plane had been shot down and nobody knows shit about what happened. He's the man who forces him to wear his suit because of the medals and all that, and he has to go, especially if they are in the afternoon. (It's that Iceman forces him in the suits, nope, that's all his mom's work).
So yeah, he knows of the man, but he knows very little of him, and maybe he spent about twenty hours in his presence and company in his sixteen years of life. Then, during a party, some of his classmates ask if his uncle Mav is single because her aunt is interested in him, and Bradley doesn't know how to answer. When he asks his mom that same afternoon about Mav's love life, she shrugs and says, "He has someone, baby goose, had for a long time," and that's all he gets out of her, besides a single long look at the photo of Mav and the Iceman.
Something happens in the two years he and uncle Mav don't talk because something stupid Bradley said and something equally stupid Mav answered, and Mav writes to him a lot—letters, mail, and even a wedding invitation he sees five months later because he was away for his training and didn't switch postal codes. He doesn't open it because he's still angry with him, and his mom is so fucking disappointed with Bradley because "he got married and you weren't there". This thing hunts him for a long while, until he doesn't see Mav by chance when he gets assigned to Top Gun for the first time. He's wearing his wedding band, and he smiles sadly at him before saluting a superior and disappearing in the crowds, talking away with the base commander.
(It takes another half a year before they reconcile, but Mav doesn't talk about his spouse, and Bradley doesn't ask. He hears, thanks to the gossip vines, that the Iceman is getting his second star, and his mom talks, with Papa about his white hair and how distinguished he looked, during a barbecue the week before. Papa laughs and says, "Yeah, I'm sure he thinks exactly the same.")
But then he gets to know the Iceman, and not only of him after the mission, after he and Mav almost died, the man himself, with four stars on his shoulders and enough commandments on his chest to make the jacket look really heavy to wear, came to salute them on the bridge, shaking hands with every pilto and exchanging a couple of words with Mav himself. They are back on the land, Mav is sleeping in the back of the Bronco when they arrive home, and Carole and Ron are already at the front door waiting for him, talking with a guy sitting on the patio swing.
"Hey Mav, we are here," he says, gently shocking the man.
It almost happens all too fast, considering Uncle Mav is injured, and he's limping because his ankle is in a cast. He wakes up and looks around like he doesn't know where he is, but then his eyes focus on the figure who's looking back at him and who's getting up and walking towards them. And oh god, the Iceman is there, the fucking Admiral is in his backyard, and he's walking towards his car, but his eyes are on the person behind him, who's trying to get out of the car without killing himself.
"Kazansky, fancy finding you here," Mav starts, straddling himself against the Bronco.
"I was in the neighbourhood, so I thought to come by and say hi," he says, all serious but with a smile trying to creep on his features.
"Always a pleasure to see you, Admiral," Mav answers, already taking a step towards him.
"It is always a pleasure to know you are alive, Captain," he said, closing the distance between them, taking his face between his hands, and kissing him slowly.
"Fuck Pete, Jesus Christ, baby, I'm so happy you're home," he murmurs, and Bradley knows he shouldn't be hearing this because it's private and not for his ears. So he slips out of the car, as silently as he can and walks towards his mama and papa who engulf him in the biggest, warmest hug he has received in a little while.
He doesn't know how long they spend like that, hugging each other and not really talking because Bradley is getting all the comfort he needs by only being there, until Mav pats him on the back and says, "Hey B, I want to introduce you to someone."
And Admiral Kazansky smiles at him, not in the polite way he got accustomed to seeing him smile, but in a warmer, more familiar way: "Hi, I don't think you really remember about me, I'm Tom, Pete's husband."
So, at the end of the day, he knows of the Iceman, because of gossip, and knows a little about him because his mom and papa talk a lot about him, but he can say he personally knows Tom Kazansky, the man who married his uncle Pete and who sits in front of him every time they come over for dinner.

YEAR 3 - Non-angsty Nepo!Baby Bradley and his years at the USNA and his head-in-the-sand approach to the nepotism and the fact that he ends up being known as the guy with the two hot dads instead...
YEAR THREE - 2003 - PART 3
Bradley’s time in San Diego is now numbered in days rather than weeks and Tom helps him pack for his first extended stay on a cruiser. Tom wonders if his name was even put into a hat for a place on a submarine; unlike his relationship with Man and him, it’s no secret that Bradley wants to fly. If a carrier had been an option he’s pretty sure Bradley would have gotten that. He’s seen Bradley’s report though, knows he’s excelling in all areas, clearly determined to succeed and he’s so proud. Of course, Bradley still needs to take part in the standard summer activities, despite having grown up and having them happening around him constantly, getting dragged across the country to attend various things in his shadow.
“You know I’ll be visiting the USS Princeton while you’re onboard.”
“Yeah yeah, I promise not to have to be thrown overboard for insubordination.”
“No, that wasn’t… I was more thinking that you might find yourself hearing things about me which are going to make you want to pop someone in the nose.”
                “Like what?”
“Oh god, all sorts of shit. People think I don’t know what they say behind my back but trust me, I know.”
                “I haven’t heard anything!”
“You’ve not done any active service yet. Fresh greenie not even a proper upperclassman yet. You’ll hear stuff.”
The expression on Bradley’s face is equally angry and annoyed and Tom holds back a groan.
“Bradley, I’m serious. You’re really going to have to hold back if you get angry. Don’t worry about my honor okay. You’ve spent the last couple of years pretending you don’t know me and Mav at all, don’t blow your cover over something stupid that doesn’t matter. You understand?”
“Yeah. Thanks Ice. And thanks for going along with this whole thing, I know it probably feels a bit stupid some days, but it’s really nice knowing that the friends I’ve made are my friends because of me you know, not because of what connections I might have.”
“Yeah kid, I get it. Fair warning they might feel pretty pissed when they do find out though.”
“Nah, I’ve picked good friends. I reckon they’ll understand.”
“Okay. Now did you need anything else? I know Mav has been riding you hard about your flight hours…”
Mav of course has made the most of whatever spare time they’ve had and ensured Bradley built up his flight hours again so his license doesn’t lapse. Tom doesn’t think there are going to be very many other upperclassman with as much flight experience as Bradley. Talk about being overqualified. However he also knows it makes for a damn strong application so he’s supported Mav in his undertaking.
They say goodbye to Bradley on the porch, tell him they’ll see him onboard when he’s mixing with the enlisted personnel and Tom wishes they could watch him board, feels like it’s another milestone he’s going to miss. Reminds himself firmly that he’ll see him again onboard the same damn ship and he’ll have plenty of opportunities in the future to wave Bradley off on deployment.
…             …             …
He doesn’t punch anyone, didn’t even need the warning, wonders what Ice thinks people say about him. He’d heard them talk, but nothing more than him being brass and being very cool-headed in times of crisis. It’s all been pretty benign stuff really, and no-one had stopped talking when he entered a room or anything.
For the first time ever he puts up a photo of Ice and Mav beside his bed. It’s weird, but he can see why people don’t see Admiral Kazansky. He’s got a few copies of the photo, Slider having printed him off a bunch in thanks for forwarding him the electronic file and that is probably going to come back and bite him in the ass at some stage. Now he’s back in Bancroft, preparing to help with Plebe Summer, this time older and not being expected to have to deal with people yelling in his face while not reacting. It’s going to be a cake-walk in comparison to two years ago and he’s looking forward to it.
“You’re not meant to be in here,” Bradley says, seeing Natasha at the end of his dorm bed.
“I was sent to collect you, I have permission,” she says, hand waving away his concerns. “Let me look at that photo. Holy shit… I thought your first dad was hot, but your other dad? I mean… wow. I know I told you I like girls more than boys, but these are the type of boys that I prefer…” she says, tapping the photo. “Huh. Maybe it’s just men and women, because to be honest I don’t find anyone here very attractive.”
“Gross,” Bradley states, because he’s very firmly kept the company of his own hand when he’s been on base. His summers are probably a lot wilder than Mav or Ice think they are, but he tries to make use of every night he has home once they’re
“To you maybe… pretty sure you’d find my brother hot.”
                “If I did, I wouldn’t tell you!”
                “That’s because you’re repressed.”
“Rather be repressed than find either of my dads hot thanks!”
“Okay. That’s fair. And you probably won’t be too ugly once you grow into your face…”
“Wow, you really know how to flatter a guy…”
…             …             …
Plebe Summer starts and Bradley throws himself into being the best role model he can. He knows that in the future some of these people will be his peers, maybe even be his superior, but right now they have to get through what he still considers the hardest summer of their life. Of course hardly anyone drops out, the selection criteria is far too difficult and physically rigorous to make it something someone would easily just drop-out from without serious consideration first. There’s friendly competition and even friendlier encouragement, the brigades working together.
There’s one guy that keeps catching his eye and he’s not sure if it’s deliberate on the guy’s part, somehow magically putting himself nearly always in Bradley’s line of sight. Or whether he’s only got himself to blame, eyes just drifting to watch. Either way he’s really fucking horny and the guy is hot. Not that he will do anything, but it doesn’t stop him thinking about it.
“Now there is a guy who doesn’t need to grow into his looks…”
                He silently agrees.
God what he wouldn’t do to get his hands on him.
Ah well. His own hands on his own body and his mind on another it is.
…             …             …
“Do I have a sign on me that says to tell me if you’re gay? Or a lesbian? Or bisexual?”
“Um… not literally. But there is the common knowledge that you have smoking hot dads and therefor okay with the gay.”
                Bradley groans.
“I had another guy come out to me today. No reason. Just to tell me. Also he said he thinks we’re cute together.”
                “Ew.”
                “I just nodded and smiled.”
…             …             …
Michael Williams sighs. It’s the second… complaint? Notification? Information? Tips? Regardless, they’re both about Bradley Bradshaw’s relationship with Natasha Trace. They’ve been spied coming out of rooms together, otherwise small, dark, empty rooms like the store rooms. Fraternization. Actions unbecoming. Fuck. The kid wants to be treated like all the other kids, he’d be getting pulled into Mack’s office for a dressing down, short and sharp. Both of them would be.
Part of him wants to, still a little ticked off at the whole stunt Bradshaw is pulling. He’s not familiar with him outside of watching him last year, seeing a whole raft of his superior officers watch as Admiral Kazansky toured the campus dressed as a civilian. But also Bradshaw is good. He does everything well, more than well. And he’s cheerful and helpful and encourages the underclassmen and there had been no fault in any of his behavior.
                Until now.
He walks down the corridor to Admiral Kerner’s office, nervous as he knocks on the open door.
“Sir. Do you have a moment?”
                “Of course, come in.”
He does, closes the door behind him and notes the eyebrow raise and the lean back in the chair. He has his full attention.
“Sir. I need you to do a favor and make a call to your friend Kazansky.”
                “Why, what’s happened?”
“I’ve got two instances of fraternization for Bradley Bradshaw and Natasha Trace.”
“And you want to do what? Tattle on him to his uncle?”
“No, I was actually after guidance on how I should proceed. I would pull them both into my office and give them a stern talking to, and a warning. Is that appropriate?”
“Bradshaw and Trace are the same rank Captain, it’s not exactly forbidden, just heavily frowned upon. The fact you have had two complaints tells me that this is more likely a case of sour grapes on whoever is complaining, so I’d be having a talk with them as well. But let me see if I can get Ice on the blower…”
Michael will never understand naval aviators and their call signs, but he stands and waits as Admiral Kerner dials, then asks to be put through. Obviously whoever it is on the other end knows not to mess with one Admiral ringing another. He listens to the one-sided conversation and watches Admiral Kerner’s face with interest.
“Hey Ice, it’s Sli. Yes, well, I didn’t think I’d be speaking to you today either. Look. Yeah. This is about Bradley. Did you talk to him about behavior?” Face curious, openly contemplative.
“Okay, so you covered that with him. Then why are we looking at two instances of fraternization?” Eyes narrowed and considering.
“No, it’s with a fellow midshipman. Also an upperclassman.” Serious.
“Yes, I’m aware it’s not actual fraternization.” An eyeroll.
“Yes, it is.” Face back to curious, speculative.
                “Oh. Huh.” Surprise.
“I did think it was maybe a case of sour grapes, jealousy at his general capabilities and the fact that he’s generally well liked amongst his peers. Except by a couple apparently.”
“Yes well, he’ll be fine. We’ll pull them in and give them a heads up. Both of them. Midshipman Trace is equally talented and capable.”
“Yeah, was nice talking to you too. Will have to have a proper catchup when it’s not about work.”
…             …             …
Jake isn’t sure what he has to do to get the guys sole undivided attention, but he’s not going to give up trying. He’s so good at everything, competent in this easy way that turns him on in ways he’s never thought were possible, and he’s a teenager and being horny is pretty much a permanent state for him. Except when he’s too tired to even think, which unfortunately for his first year at USNA is a whole lot of the time. Either it gets easier or people just learn how to cope with everything better because Midshipman Bradshaw makes it look easy.
…             …             …
“Oh god, it was horrible. I can’t do it again. How do they do it?”
                “What are you talking about?”
                “Submarines! Going under the water…”
“Uh…” Tom exchanges a look with Pete and opens his mouth. Closes it again. Bradley is back home for part of summer, having just experienced his first dive and he’s at a bit of a loss.
“Bradley. Buddy. Uh. You realize you’re in the Navy right? And that has, uh, a lot to do with the water?” Mav says.
“But I’m going to fly planes!”
“Maybe he should have joined the airforce,” Tom muses.
“You wash your mouth out right now!”
…             …             …
“Seriously, if I was going to fuck around I’d do it somewhere far less obvious than the fucking storeroom!”
Tom winces, because clearly Pete has heard the rumors about Bradley and Natasha Trace. God he loves the rumor mill of the US Navy, bunch of gossipers the lot of them. He hadn’t bothered mentioning anything, because he knew nothing was happening. Mav is of course mentioning it. In the worst possible way. Clearly having forgotten that Bradley came out as gay several years ago and that Natasha Trace is a woman. He’s going to need a coffee.
“Bradley! What do you mean Bradley? Don’t walk away from me young man!”
“You said we leave our ranks at the door with our shoes, so this conversation is over! And I said if!”
“I know what if means in this house, and it definitely means something definitely happened!”
…             …             …
“Do I even want to know?” Tom asks, taking a quiet sip of coffee.
“Mav’s scared I might be having sex.”
Tom raises an eyebrow, he’s fully aware Bradley’s been sneaking out for the last couple of years. He guesses Bradley’s now feeling mature enough to talk about it. Good.
                “Are you being safe?”
                “Yes.”
“Good enough for me. Don’t get caught.”
                Bradley scoffs.
“I learnt from the best remember!”
“He got caught plenty of times,” Tom says dryly.
                “I meant you Ice.”
                “Oh.”
It’s been a long time since he’s blushed.

“Okay, you know this is actually really stupid.” You complain, curled up in the backseat of Carole’s car. “Everyone else wants to sleep together, why can’t we?”
“You know how the guys are,” Ice huffs from the other end of the phone. “They’re turning it into a competition.”
“Yeah, and who’s idea was it?” You scoff. “Maverick’s. He’s single and an asshole, he doesn’t have any stake in the game, of course he would propose something like this.”
Something like this being, for your autumn break trip to a cabin, sleeping arrangements are all girls together, and all boys together. Despite the fact, that the trip is made up of some of the soccer team, and their girlfriends. Mav even thought it would be funny to have whoever caves first, buy everyone dinner on the last night.
You sigh loudly, ignoring Carole’s chuckle from the driver’s seat. Her and Goose finally got their shit together, and they’ve been happily dating since summer.
“And of course you won’t crack, because you love to win.” You whine pitifully, more to yourself than your boyfriend. “I’ll see you when we get there.”
You hang up and shove your phone into your purse, leaning your head against the window, watching a flurry of orange as you pass a multitude of trees.
Not much more time passes before you’re pulling up at the cabin, clearly the last ones there, if the amount of cars shoved into the dirt driveway, is anything to go by.
Ice, Goose, and Slider are quick to come out and help with the bags in the back of Carole’s trunk.
“Hiya honey,” Goose greets, before dipping Carole in a dramatic kiss. You turn to see Ice, and pout, before falling into his arms.
“Hey baby,” He murmurs, pressing a kiss at your hairline.
“Icey,” You whine. “Missed you.”
“Pretty girl.” He coos. “I missed you too.”
Following a week of mid-terms, you’d barely gotten to see your boyfriend. Both of you had stacked schedules with exams and papers, and Ice had a big game right before break began. You were looking forward to a long weekend with him, snuggled into his arms while you sleep, the way you hadn’t been able to.
His arms squeeze easily around your waist, and he lifts you a bit until you can’t help but smile. You fist your hands in the material of his sweatshirt.
“Was lookin’ forward to sleeping with you this weekend.” You tell him quietly. “I didn’t sleep well last week.”
“I know, me too.” He says, lips at your temple. “I’m sorry angel.”
“Not your fault your friends are stupid.”
He chuckles, squeezing you one more time before setting you down. He grabs your duffel bag and purse, waiting for you to shut your car door, before heading inside.
“Carole and I are sharing a room, I think,” You frown. “That’s what Marcy said in the group chat.” Marcy, Slider’s girlfriend, was also very upset about the sleeping arrangements, had coordinated which room everyone is staying in. Your boyfriend nods and continues in, before stopping at a room and gently setting your bags down.
You notice two beds, neither much bigger than a twin, but still an upgrade from the college dorm bed Ice had snuck in, to share with you countless times the previous year.
“Look baby,” You whine. “We could totally fit in here, you always cuddle up anyway.”
“I know, sweet girl,” He soothes with a kiss to your temple.
Carole comes in a second later, Goose rolling her suitcase while she spouts similar complaints that you had.
“Just because Mav isn’t getting any, doesn’t mean he has to ruin it for the rest of us.” She huffs, crossing her arms against her chest. Goose barely bites back his snort, throwing his head back in laughter before Carole sticks a withering glare on him.
You nod in agreement, turning towards her. “That’s what I was just telling him, I mean why did anyone invite him anyway? He’s fucking annoying.”
“Okay,” Ice warns softly. “Not that I don’t currently share the sentiment, but Mav’s room is right down the hall and I’m sure he can hear us.”
You roll your eyes but oblige, leaning into him. “Are we allowed to sit together on the couch at least?”
Tumblr media
You packed everything you need for your night time routine and to sleep. Your face is washed, teeth are brushed, and now you’re scrolling on your phone, trying to chill before bed. Carole had long snuck out of your room and into Goose’s—you wish your boyfriend didn’t take everything so seriously. Goose laughed in Mav’s face when he proposed the competition—so it’s too quiet and you don’t have anyone to talk to. Right in the middle of your scroll through Tik Tok, your phone buzzes with a text.
I miss u
You smile, imagining your boyfriend curled up in his bed, missing you enough to send you text.
Come in
You respond.
Carole left. We can push the beds together :)
He sends back:
We don’t need that much room.
Less than a minute later, your door is being pushed open and your boyfriend, clad in boxers and an old crewneck is suddenly sliding in behind you, arms circling your waist.
“Missed you.” He mumbles into your neck, the tip of his nose cold against the skin.
“You’re not allowed to agree to any of Mav’s dumb bets, ever again.” You grumble. “Last time you had to bleach your hair and now this.”
“I know baby,” He coos. “No more, I promise.”

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
3 days before- Monday 6:07 PM
The Bradshaw-Seresin family, the Bradshaws, and the Kazansky-Mitchells were at dinner. This was a traditional family get-together. They all gather at the Kazansky-Mitchell household, each week it changes. Everyone was enjoying a good meal that they all contributed to. Friendly chatter was going back and forth.
"I have a game this Friday. I was hoping you all would be able to make it." Y/N said in a happy go lucky voice. She knew they had busy lives but if they made a promise they usually kept it.
"Of course, we'll be there Chick! Your grandma and I wouldn't miss it for anything." Goose said with an equally happy voice.
"Sunshine of course we're going to be there." Mav said and Ice nodded his head agreeing.
"Sweets, you know your dad and I will be there! We love watching you play!" Jake said.
"Pops do you promise to be there?" She asked knowing how busy he can get.
"Yes, Darling. I promise." Jake replies to her while looking at her with a smile.
"What time is it again?" Bradley asked just wanting to make sure.
"7 PM." She said looking at him with excited eyes.
Present- Thursday 6 PM
"I have a meeting tomorrow at 6 PM so I won't be home until late.” Jake said as he took a bite of his pot roast that Bradley threw into the crock pot before heading to work that morning, Y/N stopped eating and so did Bradley.
“Tomorrow as in Friday? Are you sure it’s this Friday?” Bradley asked knowing that Y/N had a game that day. Jake stops eating and looks at him.
“Yea it’s this Friday.” Jake said confused
“I have a game at 7 that night.” Y/N said a little heartbroken. Bradley looked at her and it broke his heart. He hated seeing her cry or get upset. It hits Jake full force.
“Aw, shit. It is isn't?” Both of the other occupants nodded their heads while he brought his hand up to his face to rub it and run it through his hair. “Well the meeting is at 6 PM, I can go to it and get to the field on time.” He said, sounding sure of himself.
“Jake, her game is at 7 and your meeting is at 6 and you know how long those meetings take. You’ll never get to the field on time.” Bradley says coming to defend his daughter.
“Would you just lay off of me for a second? I forgot about the game.” he replied angrily at Bradley.
“How could you forget? Are you stupid? It’s on the calendar on the fridge and everyone has been talking about it including Warlock. You promised!” Y/N said getting upset that her Pops had forgotten about her game. He never forgets about one.
“Y/N/N this meeting is very important to your Pops. Your dad can record the game and we can watch it later.” everything he was saying was just making her angry.
“What about me and my game, isn’t that important to you?” she asked, getting upset and Bradley could sense but knew to stay out of it and jump in when needed.
“Yes, Darling that’s even more important to me.” he replied getting frustrated but he needed to go to this meeting.
“Then don’t go to the stupid meeting.” she knew it wasn't stupid but she was angry and saying what was coming to her mind right then and there. Bradley could feel the tension between both of them but he supposes a fight like this was bound to happen, they were both too much alike and so stubborn.
“That’s enough young lady.” he said pointing a finger at her and getting to his boiling point.
“You know what? Don’t come to my game. Go to your stupid meeting that is more important to you than me.” she said getting up from the table and storming off up the stairs to her room. Jake got up and started to follow her, leaving Bradley sitting at the table.
“Hey where are you going?” she stops briefly
“I don’t want to be around you! I don’t want you to come to my game!” she yelled and continued up the stairs.
“Oh come on Sweets, you’re important to me and so is the game.” he said stopping at the end of the stairs and her in the middle. She huffed and turned around and he followed.
“Y/N, come back here. We’re not done talking.” he yelled, raising his voice. Meanwhile, Bradley had pushed his plate back and had his head on his arms trying to block it out since he hated when his little family fought.
“No! You can’t tell me what to do! I don’t have to listen to you!” Y/N yelled as she was at the entrance of her door and so was Jake. She turned around when he roughly grabbed her, a little too rough and wouldn’t let go but she was too fired up to say anything.
“Yes you do!” he yelled back, grip getting tighter on her wrist and she winced but he didn’t notice.
“Why should I!?” she yelled back trying to remove her wrist.
“Because I’m your father, that’s why you have to listen to me.” Fire was in his eyes and so it was in her eyes too.
“So what!?” she yelled
“Don’t you dare yell at me Y/N and I mean it!” He said as his temper was rising, so was hers.
“I’ll yell at you all I want! Go to your stupid meeting that’s more important than your daughter! I hate you! I wish I died instead of Dakota! I wish I wasn't your daughter!” she yelled, still trying to pull her wrist out of his grip. Jake’s temper was at the boiling point
“Well, I hate you right back, you little shit! You took my sister away from me, my friend for life and I just want her back! So, maybe they should’ve saved her instead of you!” he yelled and instantly regretted it once her face fell and that’s when the pain of him gripping her came full force and tears started to fall.
“Get off of me! You’re hurting me!” Once Bradley heard that he shot up from his seat from downstairs and took the stairs three at a time and came to a scene that he never wanted to see, his husband holding his daughter’s wrist in his hand with force and tears streaming down her face but he couldn’t see his. He quickly rushed to them and was trying to pry him off of her. “Get off of me! You’re hurting me!” she yelled again not noticing her dad there trying to help her.
“Jake, let her go. You are hurting her.” he said calmly knowing yelling wouldn’t help and that’s when Jake realized what he was doing and let go and instantly she cradled her wrist. His face showed a mortified look, he swore from the day she was born that he would never lay a hand on her like his father did to him.
“Sweets, I’m sorry.” he said any trace of anger was gone. He went to go and hug her but she stepped back and he was looking at her and she had a terrified look on her face with tears running down her face pointed right at him, he never wanted to see that look on her face again. He hurt his baby girl, his sweets, his little girl, and the light of his and Bradley’s life. She saw Bradley there but wasn’t looking at him; it was all pointed at him.
“I hate you.” she whispered but they heard it, and knew she didn’t mean it but it knocked the wind out of Jake, with tears down her face. He tried to go towards her again but she just slammed the door shut and locked it but they could hear her crying.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Bradley asked and that’s when Jake turned to him finally noticing he was there. Jake didn’t answer, just simply turned around and walked downstairs and went to the couch and held a pillow with tears rolling down his face.
“Honey, can you open the door?” Bradley knocked on the door, no answer. He decided to try one more time “Please open the door. Pops is gone.” That did it and the door unlocked he walked in, he shut the door as Y/N sat on her floor in front of her bed, he went and joined her he opened his arms and she climbed into his lap and started to sob. Bradley just hugged her and stroked her hair “Shhh it’s ok. He didn’t mean it. You’re important to him and he loves you.” he said in a calming voice and pressed kisses into her hair. She just cried and cried until she fell asleep. He looked at her wrist and didn't feel anything broken and luckily no bruising either. Bradley got up and put her into bed, luckily she changed before supper after taking a shower, he tucked her in and kissed her forehead, and walked out of her room turning around to look at his daughter before turning off her light and cracking her door.
He walked down the stairs and stopped at the bottom to look at his broken husband and his heart broke again. Bradley just leaned up against the wall.
"She said she hated me. I hurt our little girl." Jake said, staring at the blank TV screen. He had heard Bradley come down but didn't look at him.
"She didn't mean it and you know it." He told him as he walked over to his husband and sat down and opened his arms as he did for Y/N and Jake practically fell into them. "I looked at her wrist and didn't find anything." He continued "Did some hurtful things get said? Yes. Are you both going to love each other any less? Absolutely not." He paused as he felt Jake grab his shirt. He looked down and noticed that the pillow had been knocked to the floor.
"I grabbed her. I hurt her. I swore I wouldn't hurt her like my father did to me but yet I did." Jake said with tears falling down his face. He heard what Bradley said but it was coming in one ear and out the other. Bradley sighed and squeezed Jake just a little bit and then released and dropped a kiss to his head.
"Head up to bed. I'll be there in a minute. I'm just going to put the food away." Bradley said, giving him a little nudge. Jake was numb and nodded, not having any fight left.
"Ok. I love you." He said as he was getting up and started leaving.
"I love you too babe." Bradley said standing up and going into the kitchen to start cleaning up. He heard the door shut and then he began to relax knowing both of them were safe in bed. He stood in the kitchen for a minute and ran his hand down his face and then put his hands on his hips and looked around, once he saw everything cleaned and put away turned out the light and made his way upstairs. He checked in on Y/N and she was still sound asleep, once he was satisfied he walked into his and Jake's shared bedroom getting ready for bed not even bothering that both he and Jake forgot their phones downstairs, since their daughter was in her room asleep. He climbed into bed and Jake scooted back into him and they both fell asleep.
The thunder rolls and the lightning strikes are what woke Y/N up at 3:30 in the morning. She got up out of bed and headed downstairs but not before seeing if her Pop's and Dad's door was shut not a soul was in sight. The house was looking like a ghost town and she was ok with that. She went into the kitchen and it was clean, then the fight came back to her. She couldn't stay in the house, she just couldn't. She silently pulled on her shoes and was thankful neither of them set the alarm and grabbed the keys to her truck, well her Pops' old truck that she can use. She goes out the door and quietly shuts it, thankful that the bedrooms are upstairs and the garage is by the kitchen, she starts it up and heads out. It's pouring down which is unusual for California. The fight keeps playing in her head and starts to cry, in hindsight, she knows she shouldn't drive but she just couldn't stand to be there any longer. She wanted to be with her Grandma and Grandpa Goose.
Her eyesight is blurring with tears when she sees blinding headlights coming right at her before she can swerve. They hit her head on and made her truck spin out of control and hit a guardrail sending her truck tumbling down the road 4 times before coming and landing right side up. Her head had hit the window and now the steering wheel made her disoriented. Glass is everywhere and the truck is almost unrecognizable. Everything turns black.
