Harper (RIP little old lady) didn’t really have a clear breed. She’s the size of a typical housecat. We believe she was mostly a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix, but she jumped like a Jack Russell Terrier and the way she held her paw up when focusing on something is characteristic of the Beagle. So we think she also has a little of those two breeds.

But the biggest mystery of all was on the back of her neck. She had this ridge of fur typically only seen on the Rhodesian Ridgeback, and she was far too small for us to believe that’s in her mix.

Are we on the money or do you think we may be off?

(Fun fact: During her middle-aged years, she had sculpted muscles. You can kind of see it in the fourth photo, but it was more apparent on her back and back legs when she put her paws up on the car window on the way to the park.)

What a funny little lady you had there! I would also guess Chihuahua or maybe Rat Terrier in there, but I almost wonder if she's got some Corgi in her instead of Dachshund as the source of those short little legs. Breeding a very short-coated dog to a medium/long-coated dog can sometimes lead to hair sticking up in odd places or patterns, and her face and head and neck looks a little more Corgi-ish to me instead of Dachshund. Doxies generally have narrower, longer heads with not so defined a stop, and less loose skin around their necks; then again, with a melting pot mutt mix it's never easy to tell, so I could be wrong. Maybe she did have like 1.4% Rhodesian Ridgeback in her, who knows--it's certainly possible for the smaller breeds in the mix to mask that sort of size. Ultimately, guessing breeds in mixes is always going to be an inexact science.

Regardless, she seems to have been a wonderful little lady, and gets an unofficial official AKC Certification of Good Girl from me 👍 I'm glad you had such a wonderful pup light up your life for the time she was with you. May her memory continue to bring you joy. ❤️

Survivors Breed Headcanons

I try to stick to canon, sort of, mostly, but sometimes it just doesn’t work.

Lucky and Bella: I forgot the URL of the person who pointed it out, but Sheltie doesn’t really work for their size, since they’re some of the bigger dogs in the Pack. So I’ll go with rough collie/retriever. For the retriever parent, to be generous to Lucky’s pups’ coloring, I’ll say it was a liver-hued yellow lab/golden retriever mix.

That same person also had Bruno as pure GSD, which makes more sense for his size than GSD/Chow. (Chows aren’t small by any means, but it’d make him shorter.)

All the other characters with explicit, in-book canon breeds can stay as they are. (This also means that Moon stays a border collie.)

Sweet’s stated to be a greyhound outside the books, but the early Pack Lists say she’s “small”. IDK if the Erins who worked on Survivors have ever seen a real greyhound, but they’re not small. Salukis are, though. OTOH I’m pretty sure she’s supposed to be taller than Lucky, since The Endless Lake states that she’s tall enough to see the stage where Storm and Fang are fighting without standing on a seat. Therefore, I’ll make her a greyhound-Saluki mix to strike a balance between the two.

Fiery’s an English Mastiff. I’m making him a brindle, since his color descriptions vary from “black” to “brown” to “black-and-brown” throughout the books.

Mulch is an English Cocker Spaniel/flat-coated retriever/field spaniel mix.

Snap is a beagle/Jack Russell/fox terrier mix.

Spring and Twitch are Beagle/English springer spaniel mixes, with maybe some cocker spaniel as well.

Whine’s a pug.

Breeze is supposed to be a lab/collie mix, but collie doesn’t work for her size (she’s supposed to be small), so I’ll switch that out for the Sheltie that I had to take away from Lucky and Bella.

Dart is a whippet mix. My instinct is to throw in some sort of terrier, maybe smooth fox terrier.

Whisper can be a whippet/cattle dog mix like he’s meant to be, but he is going to have some black areas.

Woody is supposed to be a beagle/pointer mix, but he’s also supposed to be stocky and one of the biggest dogs in the Pack. Therefore I’m getting rid of beagle and adding in American Bulldog. I might throw in some other larger scent hound so I can keep the beagle look.

Hunter (yes, really) is staying a Great Dane mix. However, gray-and-brown is not a color pattern Great Danes have. The closest I can come is assuming that gray=dilution (blue) and the brown parts are tan points. I’ll throw in some Dobie and malamute for dilution + tan points.

Beta (the one before Sweet) is an Irish Setter mixed with golden retriever and Alaskan malamute, for a little extra size.

Everything below this point is pretty much flying blind. There aren’t even suggestions about these dogs.

Splash is a cocker spaniel/cairn/Welsh terrier mix.

Rake is a greyhound/Airedale/schnauzer mix.

Chase is a Brittany/Norfolk terrier/Lakeland terrier mix.

Ruff is a Scottish terrier/toy poodle mix.

Fly is a boxer/German short-haired pointer mix.

Meadow is a border terrier/Norfolk terrier/cairn terrier mix.

Rush is a soft-coated wheaten terrier/Lakeland terrier/Welsh terrier mix.

Hey!

Great News - I GOT A DOG!

All my life, I have only ever wanted a dog. And all my life I was told no. For good reason, but all the same - no.

My husband knew how much I wanted a dog. Some people check shoe websites daily, others search for the latest gadgets, I checked petfinder.com.

It was no secret I wanted a dog.

I admired the dogs daily, researched their breeds, assessed which would be a good fit for us and our life and decided which would not. By doing this I was establishing what it was we wanted needed in a dog:

I wanted a female dog - They are smaller, often tend to be the more loyal of the two sexes (they won’t run after another female in heat like a male would) they don’t have that lipstick thing going on )those with male dogs know exactly what I am talking about) and they don’t pee or mark as much.

We did not want a puppy - I don’t have a clue about potty training, teething, up all night adjusting to the crate, and we could move within the next few years.

I wanted a house dog - Outdoor dogs are great especially if they are working dogs (cattle dogs, hounds, guard dogs etc) but I wanted a breed that suited to being indoors.

Short coat - we wanted a dog who wouldn’t shed alot - GDS have two coats so never stop shedding, we just didn’t want hair everywhere.

Small/Medium - The more I looked the more I realized I didn’t want a huge dog as my first dog as I needed to establish myself as a pack leader and I can’t do that if I am intimidated by a dog that is too big for me to handle but it definitely did not want a Chihuahua.

Already a picture was forming. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the dogs mentioned above it was about identifying the breeds that were not going to work for me as much as identifying those that were.

The dog had to be good with kids - we have 7 nieces and nephews ranging from 15 months to 13 years.

House trained would be preferred - dogs end up in shelters and rescues for all sorts of reasons it’s not unusual for owners to be in situations to give up their family pet - deaths in the family, break ups, change of living situations - you never know.

Good with other animals - In the future I want chickens and maybe a little fainting goat If I got a young-ish dog now in the future they were going to have to share with other animals, it would be unfair to adopt a dog who needed to be alone only to change that down the line.

You may think this is picky, but in fact I knew the realities of my life and how in the next few months it is going to change and if I was to have a dog these were the conditions which I could get one.

Going to a shelter and falling in love with a dog is easy making sure your life can accommodate them in the long run is hard.

My requirements were leaning towards a terrier breed. I did countless “breed selector quizzes” AnimalPlanet was one of the best and by changing the choices I was able to see which breeds would work eg, first I said I would walk the dog for 20-30 mins a day by changing it to 45 mins I was able to see what requirements different breeds needed.

My husband and I visited adoption event when in Denver on vacation. This nutter fell in love with bug fluffy puppies. He liked the pretty blue eyed Australian Heeler - you know the hunting dog that requires a ton of exercise - NOPE!

He then fell in love with a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. You know the big fluffy ones that again need a ton of outdoor exercise. Not going to happen.

The man who didn’t want a dog that barked loved the look of Hounds and Beagles, the man who didn’t want a dog that needed tons and tons of exercise adored Collie dogs and the man who wanted a sturdy, chill dog wasn’t too impressed by the Heinz 57 mutts that I loved. If I took this man to adopt a dog I knew that within a few hours he would greatly regret the dog he had picked. He wasn’t unrealistic he just didn’t spend all his free time researching different breeds like me haha.

Terriers - this was the way to go. Good hardy dog, loyal to his family, great with kids, can be trained to like other animals but keep an eyes on his prey driven tenancies, stubborn but with great big personalities also (when willing) great to train. Terriers also happen to be great pocket guard dogs - its not a necessity but it’s nice.

Puppies, Ships and Chilie

What would happen if Gigi adopted a bunch of puppies from a shelter?

The idea came from a gift @royslittleharper sent me.

Bart had just meant to bring her to the adoption day at the rescue as a Valentines/ Birthday gift. Just let her play with the puppies.

Unfortunately, Bart didn’t count on the fact that he can’t say no to Gigi. Especially when she gave him the puppy dog look. With 8 other puppies looking up at him.

And that was how Gigi came back to the Young Justice HQ with a new team of her own. A team of puppies.

It was a week.

A week of Gigi walking around the base with 8 puppies following her around like little ducks.

Her little children who she named after all her friends.

There was Superboy, a cute blue husky mix who was always running around trying to cause trouble and fight with Robin.

Robin was a pretty brown hound of some sort (maybe some Beagle?) who would rather snuggle and sleep than be bothered by the hyper Superboy.

Which meant Superboy ended up messing with Impulse and Blue Bettle. Two small terriers. Impulse was white with brown spots and Blue Beetle was a pretty black. They were always playing and while half the size of the floppy husky but more than willing to take on the very excited husky.

Guardian was a large German Shepherd or maybe a Belgian Malinois while Angel was a small golden pomeranian. Yes, Faith got two named after her because, after all, she was Gigi’s best friend.

Red Arrow, was a beautiful black and white border collie who always trying to hump Willow a petite Shetland sheepdog. When asked why the black and white dog was named after RED Arrow was Gigi had just shrugged while watching the excited puppy lick Willow on the face.

Gigi tried to sleep with them all but that ended up being a disaster. Superboy kept running everywhere chasing Impulse while Red Arrow and Willow ended up snuggling on the couch.

Robin, getting fed up with his siblings had ended up in Faith’s room with Guardian who had taken a liking to the brunette girl because she would play tug of war with her. Faith would literally get on the floor like a dog and put a rope in her mouth for Guardian to tug at. Needless to say, Guardian thought Faith was the coolest.

“Is your mom going to let you keep them all?” Faith asked the next day as Gigi tried to gather them all up to go home.

“We have a yard.” the red haired girl said as if this explained how she was going to keep 8 hyper puppies.

“Yeah, but it’s not a farm.” her best friend said

Needless to say, it didn’t end well with her mother who didn’t want ANY pets.

Unfortunately for Gigi’s mother Gigi’s brothers fell in love with Impulse and begged their mother to let them keep him. And by begged they hid the small puppy under their bed and their mother didn’t even realize he was there until weeks later.

Sadly for their Mom, Gigi had worn her down begging to let her kept Angel. She had finally said yes only to find little Impulse a few hours later chewing on George’s shoe. So while she didn’t end up with 8 puppies the Chin family did end up with two.

Sadly, the other 6 duckling puppies had to be trotted back to the Young Justice Headquarters.

Upon seeing Guardian Faith let out a squeal falling to all fours only to have the floppy puppy come running up. Following by Superboy who wanted to get in the middle of everything. Faith ended up in a literal doggy pile with the two of them.

Both Dog and Human Robin watched on.

“Come play!” Faith called out to Tim who just shook his head, his third cup of coffee in his hand both human and puppy yawning at the same time.

This gave Faith an idea.

“We are going to give each of the human’s their puppies” Gigi informed Roy and Maia a few hours later as she lead their puppy namesakes up to them, “And they’re in love so it’s best to let them be around each other.”

“She’s not kidding, the way those two are with each other you are going to have more puppies soon.” Faith said as Guardian shook her head letting her oversized ears flop around. The poor puppy was so awkward and disproportionate she wasn’t use to her own size, “At least we will get our ship one way”

Roy scowled as he pulled Red Arrow off Willow, “What does that mean?” he asked

“But we want nieces and nephews that aren't puppies,” Gigi said as she handed Blue Beetle to Jamie. The small fluffy black puppy was so excited to see his namesake he bit the boy on the nose.

“But I don't see a boat anywhere?” Maia added as she placed Willow on her lap only to have Red Arrow climb up onto her lap too to snuggle with his soulmate.

“Don't dodge the pregnancy talk,” Faith said throwing a ball for Guardian who dashed after it tripping over her own paws. “We want kids”

“Yeah, I wanna have more people for my tea parties,” Gigi said

“Our children would be busy for those” Roy said quickly dismissing her. Maia turned to him in shock at what he just said.

“Wait, what?”

“It’s happening” Gigi squealed to Faith

“I’m still confused by this ship,” Maia said pulling out her phone so she could google it.

Needless to say, this was how she found out about fanfics.

Bonus:

Because Gigi kept puppy Impulse and human Superboy already had a wolf and superdog Bart adopted Superboy.

“Oh, you're going to keep Chili?” Faith asked as Bart started running in circles with the gangly dog who was barking excitedly.

“What?” he asked looking up.

“Well Gigi’s brother’s kept calling him Supe for short so I started calling him Chilli…” Tim laughed from his seat where he was working. Robin laying at his feet.

“Only you…”

“I kind of like Chili” Bart said, “Chil for short.”

“Awww that’s so cute!” Gigi said

“And the opposite of that dog,” Tim mumbled to Faith who just laughed as she watched Chil chase his tail.

“Well I’m a sucker for irony”

I wasn’t tagged, but I saw @ryttu3k do this meme earlier and I want to do something right now, so this is something that’s getting done.

Name: Scrawlers.

Nicknames: Scrawlers. =P

Height: 5′0″, even.

Hogwarts House: Gryffindor and proud of it.

Favourite colours: This shade of blue, and this shade of green.

Favourite animals: If we’re talking about domesticated animals, then dogs all the way. It’s not that I don’t like other animals---I do!---but I have a special fondness for dogs and probably always will. In particular, my favorite breeds are:

Shelties (shetland sheepdogs), even though seeing pictures of them splinters my heart into a billion pieces due to how achingly I still miss Shiloh. I can still identify shelties on sight after spending fifteen years with one, and I honestly start to cry every single time I do. So like, basically, I think shelties are the best breed of dog, but so much as seeing a picture of one will make me cry, and god forbid I’m in the presence of one, because just the texture of their fur makes me break. (Seriously, my friend’s sheltie kept coming over to me for petting and I just lost it all over him. Crying all over the place. I was a mess.)

That said, I have a fondness for sheepdogs in general, specifically the aforementioned shelties and border collies. I also like regular collies, too.

Whatever breeds came together to make Morgan. (The rescue said border collie and beagle, and I can tell that she has some sort of terrier in her as well. That said, I’m not sure of her exact breed, and it doesn’t matter, tbh. I adore her just the way she is. To quite Chris Traeger, she is half-amazing, half-terrific. Well, okay, probably more like half-terrific, half-impish, but still. =P)

As far as wild animals go, my favorite animals have been wolves since childhood. While I do have other animals that I like a lot (e.g. red-tailed hawks, foxes), wolves have been my favorite for the longest time and I don’t see that changing. And then, as far as mythical creatures go, well . . . I feel like it should come as a surprise to absolutely no one when I say that I have a distinct fondness for dragons.

Average hours of sleep: Like . . . maybe four on a weeknight, and then closer to ten if it’s Saturday or Sunday. :/ So that would be . . . about 40 hours of sleep per week? When I’m supposed to be getting 63? Yikes.

Favourite fictional characters: I’ll choose one from each of my current active fandoms, though they’re in no particular order aside from the first one.

Alan from Pokémon is my all-time favorite fictional character for a lot of reasons, but one of the primary ones is dear gods I have never related to a fictional character more. Like there are characters where I can say, “Yeah, I feel them/relate to their struggles” in some way, because they were written to be relatable, but none come even close to how much I relate to Alan in a lot of ways which I needed a character like him to relate to (without even realizing that I needed that!). He is my valiant dragon son and he is so, so important to me---again, for a lot of reasons, but also because he’s helping me work through some things that I probably should have worked through a decade ago, but, uh, better late than never. Anyway, I love him. He is my ultimate fave. Mess with him and you mess with me, et cetera.

Okumura Rin from Blue Exorcist is one of the best characters to ever be created, because despite being the literal spawn of Satan he is immensely pure of heart, brave, snarky, protective, and downright adorable. This boy loves his brother, his friends, his (demon) cat, gets in fights to protect wild pigeons, loves to cook and is damn good at it, and is just . . . I love him. Rin is wonderful. And if you’re reading this and you’re familiar with YGO, then know that if you love Jounouchi then you will love Rin, because Rin has a lot in common with Jounouchi, sans the toxic masculinity Jounouchi was saddled with at the start of the series, and SPEAKING OF WHICH . . .

Jounouchi Katsuya from Yu-Gi-Oh! is still my darling boy and I still love him to pieces as well. He’s definitely up there in terms of favorites for me. ♥ (And truth be told I’m not very active in YGO at the moment, but Jounouchi still deserves a mention because I love him that much, so.)

I can’t choose just one character from The Office, so it’s a toss-up between Jim Halpert, Pam Beesly-Halpert, Ryan Howard (in seasons 1-3, and here and there from 5-onward), Dwight Schrute, Karen Filipelli, Stanley Hudson, and Oscar Martinez. Oh, and of course Michael Scott has his moments.

A toss-up between Kinomoto Sakura, Li Syaoran, and Kinomoto Touya for Cardcaptor Sakura. Oh, and Kero-chan. Gotta love Kero-chan. ♥

And I think that’s it for current fandoms, but give this another month and it’ll be time for Breath of the Wild, so . . . x) I also think RttE is coming back soon, which would bring back Dreamworks Dragons (and we all know how much I love Hiccup), but I’m not sure of the exact date on that.

Thank you for asking! Pia isn’t a character (I know nothing about her lmao) so I will answer for Ebony instead, the badass version of her in my legacy. ~Lila

salted caramel: favorite movies?

Lila: I don’t watch a lot of movies, but I’ve probably watched the whole Harry Potter series 5 times! I also love Marvel films (The Avengers especially!) and How to Train a Dragon is pretty nice as well. These sound a bit childish, but I get scared/queasy easily so yes 😊

Ebony: She isn’t really a movie type of girl, but if she does watch one it is likely to be some sort of creepy horror film.

Xin: There are a few movies I go back to, including Titanic, Interstellar and Pitch Perfect. Movies that have stuck with me are The Changeling, Train to Busan and Miracles in Cell No.7. ^.^

black raspberry: do you have any pets?

Lila: I used to have two Labrador dogs, but my mom now owns a dog minding business, so we usually have a couple doggies running amok in the house. Right now, we have four dogs! A Maltese, Toy Poodle, Beagle and West Highland Terrier/Miniature Schnauzer cross. It is surprisingly peaceful for that many little dogs ❤

Ebony: Her boyfriend/s? LMAO.

Xin: Nope. Used to own goldfish but they kept dying and I couldn’t handle the sadness so I refrained from buying more.

mango: when and why did you start your blog?

This blog? We started it maybe 10 months ago? And we started it because we had just learnt how to make poses and we thought we were all that so we wanted to make pose packs to share with everyone.

blackberry: have you ever laughed so hard you cried?

Lila: Yep! Just not as much as Xinxin though LOL.

Xin: Many many times. You can ask Lila, she has witnessed most occasions of this occurrence. In fact I laughed so hard I cried yesterday because my sister kept tickling me. Tickling is painful I tell you.

Newfoundland
