Blade Runner (1982) - The Esper: "A high-density computer with a very powerful three-dimensional resolution capacity and a cryogenic cooling system."

I stumbled upon an article about an AI tool capable of isolating objects within images at will... and I saw that a commenter slyly invoked this:
enhance 224 to 176
enhance, stop
move in, stop
pull out, track right, stop
center and pull back, stop
track 45 right, stop
center and stop
enhance 34 to 36
pan right and pull back, stop
enhance 34 to 46
pull back, wait a minute, go right, stop
enhance 57 to 19
track 45 left, stop
enhance 15 to 23
give me a hard copy right there.
Acknowledging that Robin is inherently a child-solider even with the complicated situation surrounding it 🤝 understanding that it’s fictional and that it’s the younger readers self-insert.
the thing that frustrates/worries me the most about the AI boom is that honestly for the average person the computer is already just a magic box that poofs images/sounds/video into existence
there's no basis of understanding to buffer what's about to happen
months ago I tried explaining to my sister that Pixar doesn't just 'tell the computer what to do' and nothing clicked like its rough out here fr
I didn't want to add this commentary to the original post, but we all recognize these days how HORRIFIC the Truman show is and I assume that's because we feel horrified by how constantly monitored we all are.
I think about these YouTube kids we're seeing who are growing up and filing for emancipation and suing their parents for exploiting them all these years. The Truman Show is no longer fantasy, it's a reality. And it's awful.
IVE BEEN IN THE ROOM WITH BABEL, its still one of my favourite art pieces of all time! One thing that Photo just doesnt convey is the SIZE of that thing, the tower is MUCH taller than you, its about a full storey tall and its in an otherwise empty room, so the various sounds all end up echoing and getting even more garbled. Ouargh, I love babel so much
“The only time it’s okay to pirate is when something isn’t available to buy. Otherwise it’s wrong and bad.” Babe how are you going to watch something when it becomes unavailable if people weren’t pirating it before it became unavailable.
Assuming your earlier anon was asking in good faith and not just to stir the pot/open a can of worms in your inbox: Charles is Catholic, Lance is Jewish.
Rightly or wrongly (and I will NOT make any comments on whether I agree with this), it’s easier to judge a non-Jew than a Jew for their views on what’s happening in Israel and Palestine currently.
It’s not for non-Jews to decide what is or isn’t acceptable for Jewish people to be doing with regards to practising their faith given the current circumstances without the lived experience of actually being Jewish.
If there are other Jews that want to criticize the Strolls for their apparent support of Israel, then great. But rightly or wrongly, non-Jews are less likely to do so.
As a sidenote, we should stop lumping in "[insert name here]'s family did this/said that, therefore they must believe the same things/condone their actions".
I think the majority of us have relatives who are the human equivalent of a poorly cleaned bidet but the circumstances don't really allow us to constantly pick fights about [insert topic here] or we simply do not have the energy to do so (which... Valid). So just because we chose to not engage/acknowledge said people in our families, it does not necessarily mean we think like them.
Perhaps the same courtesy could be extended to these drivers?
Welcome to A.C.M.E.! We are the police you should rat people out to
Have you seen Carmen Sandiego, ever? Well, this may be the place for you. It may not. You'll know if we shoot you in the face and drag you into a dark, locked supply closet and then handcuff you to a chair.
Our "ask box" is open. We invite you to submit questions, but since we are super duper secret we will only be able to answer them to the best of our ability. You may also ask a staff member. Who is our staff? Send an ask to find out.
If you see Carmen Sandiego OR any operatives who mention an organization called "VILE" we invite you to perform a citizen's arrest immediately and call us so we can deploy some agents to your precise location and drag you into a discreet area.
P.S. For the month of June and the month of June only, we like gay people!
how in the world is mobile compatibility akin to accessibility? a big swath of neocities users are there BECAUSE they hate the way smartphones have become so widespread that many people have them instead of a computer. it's a pretty important part of the movement. "accessibility" is important because disabled netizens deserve to be able to view websites as much as everyone else, not because it can cater to more users. not having a computer is so far from being a disability that it's almost insulting to imply that the two are related in any way.
not everyone has access to devices with bigger screens. devices cost money. some people do not have enough money to purchase device with bigger screen. intentionally excluding people who cannot purchase bigger screen device is classist. (also some ppl just don’t want to have another device, or could buy another but aren’t for which reason.) denying access to someone who cannot afford a device is in my mind pretty similar to things like not providing image descriptions or being wary of eyestrain during creation.
PLUS. is there potentially a link between someone being disabled and not having the money for another device? That would be crazy to think about wouldn’t it /sar
mobile support on the small web doesn’t have to be perfect, but how is not trying—or worse yet just being an ass—any better than not having image descriptions? if someone needs yet another several hundred dollar device to engage, what is the point of the “movement”?
A web movement that does not try to be accessible is not free. Classism and ableism (just like every other social issue) are linked. What’s insulting is to imply that they aren’t.
And if you can’t find some way to make your site more accessible, you aren’t a good webmaster.
