backstory: I am tall and the sleeves on many of the jackets I have are too short, so I wanted to buy sleeve gloves….then! I miraculously found some similar ones at home but they looked a bit dull for me, so I started with just the crochet additions…. however knowing me, it couldn’t just end there because I have never been a minimalist so I added the bugs :) 🪲

anyway I just thought I’d share this because maybe before you buy something new, look around for things at home and reuse them. or at least try give them new meaning. upcyle things.

For the record, this isn’t an attack at barbie per se, as I did play with them as a child and have fond memories BUT this is in reference to many associations with barbie (“a plastic world” be what it is).

Before I saw the film (like a month before) I wrote down part of this dialogue as a joke….well an inside self-deprecating joke in which I often call myself ogre Fiona or shrek bc physically I have never felt like I’ve been perceived any other way. And as much as I did like barbie as a child, even now the image of it is construed as plastic, it can never be organic and natural to me. Even omitting the obvious environmental problem with plastic on this earth and barbies being made of it, I do see this world getting more plastic in terms of culture…again it’s not just plastic surgery and all that…simply people. Today in a mall, I felt surreal to be walking past so many influencer-types of people, none of them felt real to me. And I think I’m in a good place with how I see myself now, that being an ogre is something to be thankful for, it’s realising that looks are really unimportant in comparison to having nature around you, to being true with yourself, to living life outside of that plastic world with all its unnecessary expectations. Also, I think swamps are very cool and decay has its particular beauty too but sadly, perfection has more followers.
