no no but monster is probably my favorite epic song because ooohhhh myyyy goooddddd it’s like the entirety of the musical so far has been building up to this
Like “is the cyclops struck with guilt when he kills, is he up in the middle of the night? Or does he kill my men to avenge his friend and sleep, knowing he has done ‘em right”?? like in ‘my goodbye’, (end of cyclops saga) Odysseus is already having trouble sleeping (“what’s a title that a goddess could lend, if I’ll never sleep at night?”) LIKE OKAY JAY OKAY
“when the witch turns men to pig to protect her nymphs is she going insane? Or did she learn to get colder, when she got older, and now she spares them the pain”?? Odysseus references how long it’s been, time passing, in ‘there are other ways’ (“but it’s been twelve long years”)
“When a god comes down and makes a fleet drown, is he scared that he’s doing something wrong? Or does he keep us in check so we must respect him, and now no one dares to piss him off?” Pretty obvious; in ‘ruthlessness’ when poseidon says “in all my years of living, it isn’t very often that I get pissed off”
“Does a soldier use a wooden horse to kill sleeping Trojans because he is vile? Or does he throw away his remorse to save more lives with guile?” tbh I’m not sure on this one but could be Odysseus’ internal turmoil in general ORRRR the fact that he decided to drop the baby from the walls of Troy to save his family (“save more lives with guile”)
AND THEN AND THEN [agh I love this song so much]
The “ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves… and deep down I know this well” BROTHER YOU HAVE ME ON MY KNEES
“I lost by best friend, I lost my mentor, my mom, five hundred men gone— this can’t go on!” JFC
“I must get to see Penelope and Telemachus!” ALWAYS THE SAME WAY OF SINGING THEIR NAMES OH MY GOD THIS KILLS ME
“so if we must sail through dangerous OCEANS AND BEACHES, ILL GO WHERE POSEIDON WONT REACH US, AND IF I GOTTA DROP ANOTHER INFANT FROM A WALL IN AN INSTANT SO WE ALL DONT DIE—“ dead, oh my god.
I have a lot of feelings about this and feel free to add more thoughts on this

Is the cyclops struck with guilt when he kills? (No, but Odysseus is)
Is he up in the middle of the night? (Yes, he constantly says that he can't sleep through the saga)
Or does he end my men to avenge his friend (He didn't end the Cyclops to avenge his friend, he felt too guilty perhaps.)
And then sleep knowing he has done him right? (He hasn't done Polites right. His best friend is dead and the killer remains alive and well. He wishes he was the Cyclops..?)

Current update from my playlist: I was listening to ‘Monster’ just earlier and since I put my playlist on shuffle—it then played ‘Full Speed Ahead’ and considering the lyrics:
[ Monster ]
Deep down I know this well,
I lost my best friend,
I lost my mentor, my mom,
Five hundred men gone, this can’t go on!
Then later being hit with:
[ Full Speed Ahead ]
Six hundred men, six hundred men under my command,
With only one goal in mind,
Make it back alive to our homeland.
I don’t know—there’s just something that I love how when you go back to something and relate it to something you learn later on like this, it both feels so satisfying to see the story and kinda laugh (and cry) at the irony of the lyrics and stuff and I’m just—I wanna cry I love Epic so much I swear.

Odysseus: the Gods have allowed me to live another day and I’m going to make it everyone’s problem
The Gods, getting ready to boot him to Calypso’s island: actually we did not allow that

Something I adore about this saga is how the songs all end with such powerful and forceful singing. It almost feels like Odysseus is trying to drown out the screams he hears by being louder with his own pain and convictions

What if I'm the Monster?
(Based on Monster from Epic the Musical, it's incredible, give it a listen)
So! For the past few years, Danny has done nothing but defend Amity Park from Agressive Ghosts, Lunatic Ghost Hunters, and the GIW, all on his own. But no matter what he does, he is always seen as a Monster by the people of the town, just for being a Ghost.
Over the years he has lost a lot.
His Best Friend. His Mentor. His Mom.
Tucker was caught by the GIW and arrested for helping Phantom, and was never heard from again. His Parents still visit the Mayor's office for any word of him, but no one has any idea what happened.
Danny and Clockwork had a falling out after Danny refused to go down his intended path. He wanted to live his own life, one not predetermined by a Time God. Clockwork had told him that he would regret the decision, and left.
And his Mom had died after discovering his secret. She had surprisingly accepted him, but then the GIW had tried to capture him and she decided to defend him, and she got caught in the crossfire.
Every time Danny tried defending the people of Amity Park, he was vilified and hated even more. He would never be a Hero in their eyes, he was no Justice League. He had lost so much just defending them, but he couldn't bring himself to resent them, they didn't know what they were doing, it was how they were supposed to think. He still needed to defend them.
But he could no longer do so acting as the Hero.
Being a Hero stopped him from raiding the base that he assumed Tucker was being held in. Being a Hero led him to disagreeing with Clockworks advice. Being a Hero led to his Mom's death.
So he would be The Monster, instead.

Polites: Great the world with open arms
Circe: Maybe showing one act of kindness, leads to kinder souls down the road
Prophet: I see a man with your wife
Odysseus: Omg! We need to get home NOW, kill ANYONE in our path! I'll kill another infant if I have to!
Prophet: He knows it's him right? It's him.... with his own wife. He knows right??? Right???
Eurylochus: Let him have this, he needs it.
