One must abide by His Majesty's every rule.
It was a phrase you often hear from other servants in the castle from the moment you joined them as your mother's apprentice. A phrase that helped them survive the dog-eat-dog world inside the palace walls.
“You're not expected to excel in your work, but do not even think about failing the task given to you.” Your mother grabbed your shoulders with a squeeze. “Do you understand, my child?”
You nodded your head as you tightened your grip on your skirt. “Yes, mother.”
She lightly tap your cheek before placing a lasting kiss on your forehead. “Go on, dear. I will see you before sunset.”
You looked around your surroundings before hesitantly nodding. For some reason, you can't seem to ignore what you've been feeling from the moment you entered the servant's gate. As if someone's watching your every move.
The path inside the dark tunnel was short, but for you, the time seemed to slow down. Your feet felt heavy to take one step forward after another. Like it was keeping you from going any further.
“You've arrived,” a middle-aged woman spoke while standing in the midst of the desolate area, few steps from where you came from. “Follow me.”
You scanned your surroundings, a poor attempt in remembering the path where you came from. However, the more you walk further and further away from the path that leads to your mother, the more you could sense something ominous was about to occur.
“Are you listening?”
You bowed your head and apologized.
“Stand tall and look at me,” she ordered. “In this castle, you must keep your eyes and ears open at all times. Do not even try to let your mind wander elsewhere. If you don’t want to suffer any consequences.”
Your body shook. You tried to speak, but your voice broke. However, when you nodded your head in desperation, the woman simply turn around and started to list down the rules within that castle.
“Do you even know why you're here?”
“T-To train to become my m-mother's replacement...”
The woman sneered. “If that'll help you sleep at night.”
After giving you a tour around an area that only a handful of servants can access, she led you towards a gated path that lead towards a small chateau in the middle of a small open field inside the castle walls.
The chateau, albeit small compared to the colossal main palace, was still bigger than your home. You also noticed the crawling vines on its walls, and as well as its tinted windows that kept its interior hidden from prying eyes.
“You will keep this place in order. You may not ask for anyone's help. You will only work here alone. Your food will be provided by one of the servants, but do not let anyone else inside the chateau.”
“But my lady...”
“That is all you need to know.” She looked down at your stature before clicking her tongue. “Stupid commoners.”
With that, she left you on your own.
THINKING BACK, you should've realized the message behind her poisonous words. Nobody would think that it is normal for a servant to clean an entire chateau within the day all by themselves.
That doing such chore might result to an inevitable mishaps that forces one to change their attire. Something that might force them to take every piece of clothing from themselves.
“Y-Your Majesty, please forgive this commoner from—” you felt one of his large, calloused hand caressing your face while the other hand pulled you closer to his bare body.
“Kept that mouth shut before I do it myself,” he whispered against your cheek before slightly biting it. “Who would've thought that this would be an easy chase?”
Callix, the reigning monarch, is known for his compassion towards the commoners. Some people would even see him interact with the lowest of the poor during their darkest moment, providing them hope and warmth.
But as you writhe beneath him, allowing him to touch every inch of your body as he please, made you doubt everything you heard about him.
After savoring your heat, he aligned his thick member against your quim. Callix grabbed you by your cheeks and forced you to meet his gaze.
“Please...” you pleaded, but he only swallowed all your pleas and cries as he penetrated your tight walls.
When your first intercourse with him ended almost immediately, you believed that he would let you go. That he would order you leave and never show yourself in front of him.
But after resting his head against the crook of your neck, he suddenly grabbed your ankles and pushing it apart.
You could feel his cum gush out of your quim, but Callix was far from satisfied.
That night alone, he ravished your body until the morning sun has risen.
When you woke up, you felt the coldness of the heavy iron wrapped around your ankles.
“You're awake,” you heard his voice from somewhere in the room. “I have some news for you. So, open your eyes.”
You tried to open your eyes, but for some reason, your eyelids felt heavy.
“Are you disobeying my orders?” he asked while gritting his teeth.
“Open your eyes!” he demanded as he grab your cheeks tightly.
You tried your best to open at least one of your eyes and look at him.
“There's my queen's beautiful eyes.” You could feel his hands all over your body as he leave kissing against your face. “Can you hear me, my queen?”
“M’not... queen...”
He chuckled before yanking your hair back, exposing your neck to him.
“You dare oppose me, hm?” he asked as he harshly nip your neck. “Are you forgetting who I am, my queen?”
How you wish you could simply forget who he is.

Epilogue
Ten Months Later
Montauk, especially in winter, looks as if it's straight out of a postcard.
For as long as you can remember, Montauk is the only place that's felt like home. And you've shared it with the woman who's known you even before you took your first breath in this world. But now, there are days when she doesn't recognize you, days when she cries out in fear thinking you're an intruder, when she tearfully calls for her own mother or searches anxiously for her late husband.
The merciless grip of Alzheimer's is steadily robbing her from you, and time seems to draw out the process in a cruel, agonizing manner.
Wanda is there for you though, through every difficult moment. She is your rock when you feel like crumbling, your light in the darkest moments. You are both staying in Montauk for some time now, taking care of your mother. Your mother sometimes recognizes her, and she’s remarkably warmer to your ex-wife more than you can remember. You think, perhaps, it has something to do with her memories that are slowly wilting away, and all that is left is the love she’s always held back for the other woman in your life.
One evening, as snowflakes start to gently fall from the sky, Wanda gets the sudden urge to take a walk. After some persuasion, you find yourself pulled out from the inviting warmth of the bed you've been sharing, grumbling while putting your layers of clothing back on to indulge Wanda in her whimsical idea.
Hand-in-hand, you set off just as the sun begins its descent, painting the horizon with streaks of indigo and pink. Snowflakes settle on Wanda's hair, turning her fiery locks into a winter wonderland. She smiles, her green eyes sparkling with the reflection of the dimming twilight.
You soak in the sight of her, the love of your life, aglow in the beauty of the snowy evening, committing it to memory.
An old park lies ahead, its swings and benches blanketed by the fresh snowfall. Wanda leads you to the swing set, her laughter carrying through the chilly air as she plops down on one of them. You take the swing beside her, the frosty metal biting through your clothing, but you don’t mind. The sight of Wanda, her face flushed with cold yet bright with joy, is worth braving the winter chill.
As the swing set gently comes to a halt, Wanda nudges you, pointing towards a row of trees in the distance. “Look over there,” she says, “Do you see that?”
You squint at the snow-laden branches, trying to decipher what she's referring to. While you're absorbed in your futile search, Wanda quietly slips off the swing, her heart pounding in her chest. She swallows hard, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves. As you turn back to her with a puzzled look, ready to ask what you were supposed to see, you find her on her knees in the fresh snow, looking up at you with an earnest gaze.
She reaches into her pocket, pulling out a small, velvet box. With a quick flick of her wrist, she pops it open to reveal a simple yet stunning ring nestled within.
“Will you marry me?”
Your heart stutters at the sight of Wanda's hopeful gaze. For a moment, everything seems to stand still. Snowflakes suspend their descent, the air holds its breath. With a lump in your throat, you utter a word you never thought you'd say in this moment.
“No.”
Shock registers on Wanda's face, her eyes wide and vulnerable. The world seems to crash around her, the word echoing ominously in her ears. But then, before she has a chance to fully comprehend what's happening, you're sinking to your knees in the snow beside her.
“Because,” you begin, laughter choking your words even as tears track down your cheeks. You fumble in your pocket, pulling out your own small box. You pry it open, revealing a gleaming ring nestled within. “Because I want you to marry me.”
The world, previously paused, starts up again in a rush of sound and color.
Laughter bubbles up from within you, filling the silence, mingling with the tears streaming down your face. Wanda stares at you, stunned into silence, her tears mirroring your own.
“Yes,” she breathes out finally, her voice choked with emotion. “Yes, yes, yes.”
In the stillness that follows, you gently take her hand, slipping the ring onto her trembling finger.
You look up at her, your heart in your eyes. “Yes, Wanda, I'll marry you,” you whisper.
Wanda's fingers are ice-cold, trembling with adrenaline, when she reaches for your hand, your ring. Her focus is so intense as she slips it onto your finger that it feels as if everything else has fallen away.
Without wasting a moment, Wanda lurches forward, lips finding yours in a kiss, full of passion and relief. The chill of the snow around you seems to dissipate as your mouths move in a rhythm perfected by time and familiarity. Every small shift, every pressure, the way she tugs at your lower lip, the way you reciprocate by pulling her closer by the waist, it all stokes a warmth that radiates from your core, spreading outwards, rendering the winter air irrelevant.
The soft moan that escapes Wanda against your lips fills you with a satisfaction, an overwhelming sense of rightness that even the best of days prior to this moment had not quite achieved.
Like all beautiful things, the kiss comes to an end. She pulls away, her breath ghosting over your lips as she whispers, “Yes,” echoing your sentiment. “Yes, you will.”
Year 2
A year later, the smell of antiseptic and the sterile white walls of a hospital room are your surroundings. You lay exhausted on the hospital bed, swaddled in a light hospital gown, holding the newest addition to your family.
A baby girl.
Yours and Wanda’s.
She is swathed in soft pink blankets, her tiny face peering curiously at the world she's just entered.
Overwhelmed, overjoyed, and slightly terrified, Wanda is darting around the room, fretting over everything and anything. Her brows are furrowed as she questions the nurses on the baby’s feeding, changing, swaddling. She's always been meticulous, but her anxiety seems to be on a whole new level today.
Meanwhile, she's constantly checking up on you too. A wet cloth to dab your sweaty forehead, a soft kiss to reassure you, a gentle squeeze of your hand. Each time she asks if you're okay, if you need anything, if you're feeling too tired or too overwhelmed.
Her voice is a touch higher than usual, her movements slightly rushed. It's all too adorable, you think. The endearing sight of Wanda fussing over you and the baby brings a soft smile to your tired face.
Wanda’s gaze alternates between you and the tiny bundle in your arms, as if she’s afraid that this is all some dream that she would wake from.
“You're doing great, love,” you reassure her in a voice hoarse with exhaustion, but filled with so much love and admiration for this woman. Your woman. You wouldn’t trade her frantic behavior for anything else.
“Do you want to hold her?” you ask Wanda, lifting the baby slightly from your chest.
Wanda freezes at your question, her eyes flickering from the tiny face peeking out from the swaddles and back to you. She seems to be calculating the risk of her holding something so precious and delicate. She bites her lip nervously, her hand absently wringing together.
“I'm... I'm afraid I might hurt her. She's so small,” Wanda murmurs, almost too softly to hear.
A soft laugh bubbles up from you, finding her concern endearing. With your free hand, you tenderly take hers, squeezing reassuringly.
“Wands, love, she's our daughter. She already knows you and she wants her mom. Come on,” you encourage her, your voice soft but confident.
With a deep breath, Wanda nods. She gingerly slips onto the bed beside you, her arm tentatively reaching out. Her hand hovers over the baby's tiny form, her fingers trembling slightly.
Seeing her hesitate, you gently place the baby into Wanda's waiting arms. The moment your daughter is cradled in her arms, Wanda's eyes fill with unshed tears. Her gaze is locked on the little face looking up at her.
She's silent for a moment, just looking down at the tiny, squirming bundle in her arms. You watch as she traces her finger lightly over your daughter's chubby cheek, her touch feather-light as though she's handling a priceless piece of art.
“She's... She's beautiful,” Wanda finally whispers, her voice choked with emotion. You watch as a single tear escapes, trailing down her cheek.
“She has your eyes,” you say softly, leaning against Wanda's shoulder.
Her response is a watery laugh, and she turns to press a kiss on your forehead. “And your nose,” she retorts, a teasing lilt to her voice. “I didn’t know it was possible to be even more in love with you,” she adds, looking into your heavy-lidded eyes.
As you look at Wanda holding your daughter, overwhelmed with love and emotion, you think that there can't be anything equally perfect as this moment.
Year 4
Something equally as perfect comes two years later.
You and Wanda return to your new apartment in Manhattan, this time with a little more noise, a lot more love, and two new family members in tow.
The eighteen arduous hours of Wanda's labor are still fresh in your mind. The anxiety and fear you felt, the helplessness, as you watched her endure the pain, fighting for every breath, are experiences you would never forget. For a moment, you feared for her life, but Wanda, as always, proved to be a force of nature. She battled through, delivering the twins normally. Your two-year-old daughter has just been promoted to big sister status, with the arrival of her twin brothers, William and Thomas.
Wanda, holding Billy, looks at you over the top of his little head. Her eyes are bright, tired but excited. You carry Tommy, his tiny hand gripping your finger, and his weight in your arms feels like the most natural thing in the world.
Despite being outnumbered by your kids, you and Wanda are no novices now. With one child already, you've learned the ropes of parenthood, even if juggling the needs of three young children is still quite the adventure.
Looking back, you can't help but wonder. If things had been smoother, easier, would you still end up here?
Sure, life has thrown you a few curveballs. But those curveballs brought you to this moment, to this feeling of complete and utter happiness.
You wouldn't change a thing.
Because this is it. This is your perfect. This is the beautiful chaos of a big family you and Wanda have created together. And you wouldn't trade it for the world.
This moment is everything you ever wanted.
Year 35
You both retire to a charming little town on the east coast, away from the relentless hum of city life. The house is a modest one, its size perfect for two people entering the golden years of their life.
It's a quiet evening when you find yourself sitting in the bathtub, the warm water soothing against your aging muscles. The bathroom door creaks open and in walks Wanda, unadorned and as beautiful as the day you met her. You watch as she undresses, each wrinkle and mark a testament to the years you've spent together. The sight of her, the raw display of strength, beauty, and age, leaves you breathless.
She eases herself into the tub, the water rising as she settles across from you. Your legs brush against each other, a touch that still sends warmth spreading through your veins. Her eyes, the same captivating pair you lost yourself in more than four decades ago, meet yours and your heart does a familiar dance.
Wanda raises an eyebrow, the corner of her mouth quirking up in a teasing smile. “You have that look again.”
“What look?” you feign innocence, though a mischievous glint gives you away.
“That look as if you're seeing a young woman, and not the one who's been trying to get a senior discount for the past few years,” she quips.
You chuckle, leaning closer, the water ripples between you two as you do. “Honestly, after all this time,” you whisper, fingers tracing the back of her hand submerged in the water, “I can't help myself.”
She playfully rolls her eyes, her cheeks tinted with a hint of a blush that reminds you of her younger self. “Ever the charmer,” she murmurs, her voice betraying the flutter of excitement she still feels from your compliments, even after all these years.
“You may have a few more lines here and there,” you whisper, your eyes taking in every beautiful detail of her face, “But to me, you're as breathtaking as the day we met. Time can't change the way I see you, Wanda.”
With deliberate slowness, you lean in, pressing a delicate kiss to her lips. As you pull back, you see the warmth in her eyes, the soft smile playing on her lips, and you feel an old, familiar urge.
Your next kiss is deeper, more insistent, and your hand finds its way to her waist, pressing her closer. Her laughter bubbles up, breaking the kiss momentarily as she playfully swats your wandering hand away.
“You really still find this,” she gestures to herself, “Desirable?”
You lean back slightly, taking in her form with a deliberate, exaggerated slowness, your gaze wandering from her face to her feet and back up again. “Every inch.”
She gives you a mock exasperated look, but the smile that's trying to break through belies her true feelings. “You and your words,” she mutters, pulling you closer by the nape of your neck, her fingers tangling in your damp hair. “Do they ever run out?”
“Not when it comes to you,” you reply earnestly, your lips hovering just above hers. “Never when it comes to you.”
Making love isn't as easy as it once was, with bodies grown old and not as supple.
But your love for Wanda—if anything, is stuck in time.

Lady Celestine: Navigator of the Constellations:
The Forgotten Hero of Yore
The Merlyn of the KBASW (AU) & the love of Arthur's life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just to be clear Merlyn & Celestine are the same person it's just her disguise when she goes out.
For: @kirbyoctournament
Character Overview/Personality: She's the combination of Merlin from Disney's Sword & the Stone, Queen Eclipsa from SVTFW, Willy Wonka from (Wonka 2023 ), and Merlin from (the 2008 TV series).
She's an optimist... many of her peers mistake it for being naivety but in reality she's well aware of the darkness in the world... she sees it every day with her powers. Since seeing so many terrible things in the future she treasures the present and is always grateful for the things she enjoys in the now. (Also there's another reason for this....)
And finds the joy in the darkest of times...
She likes to be overly prepared... And tend to keep (*hoard) things they might need... Often tends to hold things she doesn't really need. With Arthus side eying her "You really need to keep that."
"Don't look at me like that Wart... WE MAY NEED THIS HARPOON ONE DAY WHO KNOWS & YOU'LL THANK ME LATER !" *proceeds to carry bloody harpoon home... with Arthur facepalming himself*
They actually did end up using that harpoon 3 months later & Celestine rubbed it in Arthur's face for an entire week. This constant hoarding led her to the first iteration of the Dimensional Cape, which started as a dimensional bag to store all her stuff. (LMAO).
This brings me to Celestine's wisdom & sass: similar to Merlin (the series & Disney) is filled with cleverness & comebacks. When she's doing her diplomatic work and out and about she knows how to do it "gracefully."But when she transforms into Merlyn, she lets loose exactly how Merlin is when he becomes Dragoon. Has no filter and becomes a chaotic old man throwing shade left & right
She hates' cursing so as resulting in hilarious, nonsensical words to place them: Fiddle sticks, biscuits, sweet butter crumpets, etc ~
Her future sight has made her a very empathic person... knowing the suffering of others in her visions. Creating a very kind, caring individual who wants the best for everyone, for them to be happy.
Keep reading for extra content & lore: (Which include spoilers for KBASW so tread carefully!) Other than that please continue...
Lore related content: (If you just want a short read)
In Denial (Oldest lore)
What Kind of King's in My Blood (Background info)
Celestine is Merlyn: (Most Current lore)
And fair warning I low-key wrote a novel... but there's a special prize at the end if you read all of it. (Extended Lore)
Lady Celestine serves as a catalyst for the anime Kirby series...
Now Celestine can't predict the exact future... only show potential paths. But her powers can guide people to the outcome they want and the path that constantly changing.
Absolom made Celestine focus solely on her future vision and trained her personally... He tried to paint himself as this kind saintly father figure towards her... but in reality, wanted to monopolize her ability.
He tremendous amount of pressure on the poor girl...(Mother Gothel Style "Mother knows best) Believing the only thing that made her valuable was her future sight. And one more thing about Celestine... SHE HATED HER FUTURE VISION! She didn't just see the future... she experienced it! Feeling all the raw emotions of the scene.
However, Absolum would guilt-trip her: "Oh you don't want to let everyone down... you're the only one who can do this... you're so special... you can't disappoint everyone..:
Causing her to grit her teeth and bear with it... Absolum was like a father to her she couldn't say "No." Plus it's not like she could let them down... One day she had a terrible vision foreshadowing the demise of Shiver Star...
The people of Shiver Star were infected by Dark Matter's essence... Nightmare & his demons robbed them and stole all the planet's resources... while the people were possessed and had their life sources absorbed by Dark Matter.
Celestine immediately ran to the other Heroes of Yore & Absolum.... for this and assured the worried child they'd take care of this... "don't worry we'll use this information and take care of it."
And they didn't just take care of it... THEY MADE IT WORSE! Seeing an even more terrible vision appeared before her.
~
Celestine: Wait I thought you said you'd-
Absolum: Oh but my child we did you said that planet was a goner anyway... they were already possessed.... it would be so wasteful if all those resources would fall to Nightmare...
Sir Uther: We cleared out the planet before Nightmare did. And killed all of those who were going to be infected & spread it throughout the galaxy... we prevented the problem before it even happened...*gives a wicked smile*
Absolum: Yes we couldn't have done it without you *gives a wicked smile*
Celestine couldn't help but blame herself for the downfall of Shiver Star... A few hours later Celestine's warpstar cracked-
"No problem... I think," Absolum
To remedy the situation, Absolum tried to fame concern for her but in reality was keeping her in the temple to hide that she was "broken." She could still tell fortunes just at random, they just had to keep her near the temple and store them whenever they came to her.
Absolum was still reeling at how could this happen... he didn't want to expose his little mistake. (In truth he knew he was working too hard and put her to work earlier than most, because of her ability... CHILD LABOR AM I RIGHT?!.) It was still too valuable, they can't risk having her break some more...
Thus, Celestine became a caged bird.
Uther felt that she was a failure unbecoming of a Hero of Yore and not deserving of her title. She can no longer do the ability properly and with her body always hurting how was she going to fight on the battlefield!
Along with that thought she be too emotional anyway... always trying to steer them to the future... the least amount of damage... HE WANTED PROGRESS! Often opting for the method that would get him results not caring about the collateral damage!
Icarus shares in Uther's sentiments, with the added notion that she got away with lazying around doing nothing. Just got to sit there waiting for the next prediction to come around. He & Uther were doing all the heavy lifting and she was still being treasured by Absolum... (he wasn't jealous of the attention or anything...)
Thus resulting in Icarus having the brilliant idea of sticking Celestine with all the political fairs (the paperwork). Which seemed like a good idea at the time (a decision they would all come to regret).
Unbeknownst to them... they had given Celestine all the diplomatic power in the galactic court. Managing to win over the galactic council with her charm and grace. Uther had always used his power to intimidate his ideals.
However, Celestine had a softer approach and was seen as far more likable in the... (this was before the council was corrupt and this was due to Celestine's influence...) Often resulting in the members to come to her for their problems. Uther couldn't beat her in this arena... being reminded all too well this was a political battle as well.
For Icarus, you see there was a... certain deal he wanted to part take in... a deal with Halacandra. Where did the GSA partner up with and believe that he could easily impress with his inventions... with their queen?! ( Minerva Mim - Magolor's great aunt)
What happened... the king was supposed to be here whys he spent an entire month sucking up to him who was this queen...
The queen was not impressed & ended up showing technology far greater than his... for the first time, Icarus was forced to eat humble pie... "How could this have, surely this is some sort of mistake shouldn't the king be here-"
"Oh he's dead... and unlike him, I'm not to be won over by pretty words and flattery now you offend me... why would I ever want to do business with a lowlife with you!"
Madam made sure to inform the GSA they would not be doing business with them & Absolum desperately wanted to get that deal. Then Celestine volunteered to remedy the situation & suggested inviting her here.
Absolum agrees seeing there is nothing to lose, Uther believes this was just a desperate attempt to try to be useful while Icarus is excitedly waiting for her to fail.
Meeting arrives Celestine takes care of everything personally and at the end of the day. Queen Minerva is all smiles and arrives with a contract, "Alright I've changed my mind, and I'll do the deal as long as I'm working with her."
Minerva wasn't interested in Icarus' inventions but Celestine's alchemic formulas were revolutionary. And just had to have her on their team.
Absolum was shocked and relieved... (maybe this girl had more than one use after all...) and was constantly praising her. And because of her connections with Minerva... she'll need a bodyguard now when she leaves the GSA base but what the why it was worth it.
And Icarus oh how badly he wanted to be part of the mixing pot, but he had to go through Celestine. Who was more than happy to reject his proposal and experiments. (Icarus never forgave her for this.)
She was becoming too influential now ... This resulted in Icarus scheming with Uther... to get rid of her.
Thus beginning the creations of the Ancients & the Halcandrans, with Celestine & Minerva leading the helm. Alongside Dairus Drosselmeyer (Minerva's right-hand man & Daroach's great uncle)... they created many of the legendary treasures... that were now scattered about the galaxy.
(These were kept secret from the GSA... Minerva knew the truth of the situation... for you see during the meeting she had hidden away Kirby's prediction not of him just defeating Nightmare, but the reawakening of Void Termina & Doomsday... and showed it to the Queen and she understood... that's the other reason why she said yes to her)
Minerva helps Celestine create the Kabu's across the galaxy and presents them as "safe houses for star warriors" but in reality, they were all preset guides to Kirby's prophecy.
And helped her create Triple Star... Thus the creating the vigilante Merlyn.... Her work as Merlyn didn't go unnoticed and the people of the galaxy started to recognize the hypocrisy of the GSA. Which made the Ancients & the other's blood boil.
This resulted in having Uther send in his send three of his best soldiers: Sir Nonsurat, Dame Morgan, and last but not least (you guessed it WART... I mean Sir Arthur.)
Kirby's prophecy spoke of "a match" to start the spark that would flame of a new era of peace...
Arthur- Match/ Meta Knight - Spark/Kirby - Flame
At the time she didn't know who it was; the prophecy was incredibly vague with which one it was. But she wasn't going to pass her knowledge to any of them without being sure. (She didn't want another Shiver Star incident to happen... not again...)
But know would she determine which one it would be... they all seemed the most unlikely candidates as "the match." How could she weed out which one... A TRAIL, A TEST, A GAME!
So like in tales of old, Celestine did these little tests of character... and would secretly tag along during missions. Giving them all a chance to see which one it would participate in... Giving them little riddles of the monster Nightmare would do. But she always gave them a choice... (breadcrumbing) and "can't force anyone to change."
However, three of them all seem annoyed at this except for... Sir Arthur was the only one captivated and interested. It takes a while for Arthur to accept Merlyn's but only after the events of:
What Kind of King is in My Blood:
That makes him actively ask for Merlyn (Celestine to help him change) and pretty much becomes Celestine's partner in crime. And as to become a willing student... merely wishing not to become like his master (Sir Uther).
However, their little sparring match still happening, with the condition that he should win... Merlyn's not allowed to be called him Wart... (Needless to say she fought him twice as hard.)
(This post-Celestine is Merlyn:) It goes into more detail about their relationship here but... I added a few things.
Romantic feelings only start after that...
Basically, before they knew they were head-over-heals for each other their love could never be in reality. Not just because of their positions but something else...
After her warpstar broke... she received a terrible vision of her body eventually breaking and her disappearing into star dust. Foreseeing her early death...
She had initially accepted but after all the friends she made (and falling in love with Arthur) she did everything she could to stay longer for them... Celestine tried to keep herself together as long as she could, and managed to keep herself alive a little longer (than she was supposed to) but now she could feel it... she was running out of time.
How was she supposed to tell her everyone... Minerva would be devastated, who was going to help Darius (& Minerva) with his creations, who would protect her followers, and stop Uther & Icarus from making the galaxy into a wasteland...
And worst of all she'd leave Arthur all alone & heartbroken. Who's supposed to tease him now, make sure he doesn't do anything reckless, keep that ego in check, make sure he isn't a prat, to remind him to smile and enjoy life... to laugh... oh her poor little Wart...
No there must be another way...she couldn't tell any of her friends... she wasn't giving up yet... However, little did she know that was the least of her worries...
Celestine was always careful with hiding her connections with her alter-ego... and Arthur, but there was one person who did figure this out. Sir Nonsurat; after Arthur had saved "Merlyn" from his grasp he started to see a pattern.
Arthur had been an accomplice to Merlyn's along... "HOW DARE ARTHUR, I KNEW YOU NEVER DESERVED YOUR POSITION AND WITH THIS YOU WILL BE RUINED FOR SURE."
Thus, Celestine received numerous horrible visions (she got them all at once)... of Arthur being found guilty in a trial. And at the end of each, Arthur had refused to sell her out, remaining loyal to her, confessing his love for her, and dying. And then she saw her demise as well... her body finally breaking right after... poofing into stardust.
Being completely overwhelmed, she burst into tears. Desperately searching for a future where they could both live... (a future where she could be happy with him.) However, it was either that she & Arthur had escaped and her body would explode and Arthur would be captured (by the GSA) and executed right after for his desertion).
Celestine couldn't help but believe that she had destroyed Arthur's future all because she had gotten involved... (it was Shiver Star all over again.) Just like in the other futures... what could she possibly do...
Perhaps...she could solve one problem with another...
So, before the day Nonsurat was going to turn in his report of evidence... Celestine had stolen it away. And with the help of Darius, they manipulated the information to frame someone else...
Nonsurat was infuriated once he found his evidence to be stolen... But he didn't want to cause an uproar, so he demanded a completed search of every squadron. Under the pretext "there is a traitor among us, and they've stolen my documents..."
A complete search required every general to be accounted for. Nonsurat observed Arthur carefully only to find him especially giddy!?
Arthur: I do hope the search is finished soon... The sooner we finish here the sooner I can give Celestine this-
Kit Cosmo: Code red! Everyone needs to come to the Courtyard immediately! Were under attack!
Arthur: By who?!
Kit Cosmo: By... Lady Celestine...
~
(She had already known Icarus was trying to take her down... so using her Nonsurat's evidence, she had successfully framed herself... handing it in in the guise of one of Icarus' informants.)
With the information he had put together and received, Sir Icarus concocted a false trail that Celestine was leaking information and was secretly in cahoots... with Merlyn.
Since it was a trial that involved someone as high-ranking as her... she knew the trial would exclude a select few. And since she knew Nonsurat would warrant a search... she knew it would be the perfect thing to keep Arthur out of the trail.
Celestine: Well, if I am going to get locked away... I might as well make it worth the sentencing.
It was at this moment that Celestine unleashed her demonic owl (she had hidden away) and bit off his head Absolum; killing him instantly. (Madoka Magica style). Icarus tried to stop her but failed Celestine resulting in his wings being ripped off. And officially went on a rampage letting out all those years of unbridled rage & sorrow she had kept in.
Then she remembered quickly about Kirby's prediction... quickly she created her own army of Hydro Clones... to leave them all at bay.
She went into her lab and quarters and destroyed every piece of magical research and Alchemic formula. She wasn't going to let them benefit & use her research any longer and most importantly to keep Kirby's predictions... but one person who managed to get through the army... it was none other than Uther.
Uther: I always knew you were a little witch~
Celestine: That was a sham trial & you know it ... You forced my hand
Uther: You should; 've stayed in your place, someone weak as you, you are not worthy of your spot as a Hero of Yore-
Celestine: Well you are not worthy of your spot as leader! You never were and one day you'll fall you'll see *at that moment Celestine received another vision-*
At that moment Uther thought this was the perfect chance to lung at her but this backfired... he accidentally ended up seeing Celestine's vision too... And it visibly shook him to his core.
Being overwhelmed by the very visions that plague Celestine, (claiming before she was emotionally weak, was causing him to be paralyzed by fear...) It was a vision of his throne crumbling down& everything he built and it was being led by one astral... he couldn't make out the face... was... was it pink...
Celestine tried to pull away so he couldn't see the rest of the vision... and ended up striking his right eye to stop him... Uther was left frozen while Celestine could feel her body about to break and desperately made her escape... But as she stormed out...
Uther: Will make sure you're vision will not come to pass I will find that pink warrior if it's the last thing I do... And I'll- you'll die by my blade gah- *Still paralyzed because of the vision & couldn't get up
Celestine: Sorry Uther... but I'm afraid that honor won't go to you...*runs out to find Arthur* I've already selected my champion...
In the commotion, Arthur manages to find her, desperate he reaches, Celestine:
Arthur: We have to... you need to run-
Celestine: Graduation time Wart *sees a cast of other soldiers & on-looker watching* - Let's see what you're made of! Just treat it as one of our sparring matches and we'll be fine-
After all the losses in their sparing matches, Arthur finally manages to beat Celestine... "Well done, Arthur- you've finally done it, you've w-" * Visibly starts to break... and falls- and Arthur catches her
(Celestine pulls up a smokescreen so no one can see them... however, three people manage to sneak in)
Arthur: Celestine, what's happening to you-
Celestine: I've come to the end of my time- due to my condition my body was bound to break... I didn't mean to hide it... I really thought I could beat the odds... I'm sorry War- Oh I guess I can't call you Wart-
Arthur: NO! If that's the case you weren't in the best condition- *starts crying* I didn't really win-, you have to stay *sobs profusely* You have to stay and call me Wa-Wart!
Celestine: Figures *chuckles...* it takes you this long to finally admit you like the nickname ... Thank you Arthur you made my life short all the worthwhile... I hope you can forgive me
Arthur: There's nothing to forgive Cel- Celty, *cries* I love you, please there is always something... There's always, you told me that... You're the greatest mage in the galaxy... there's got to be...
Celestine: I surely hope that light of you doesn't get snuffed out *smiles warmly* it's going to be hard Wart but remember this...
Keep your eyes open and beware of the bad in the world... but also hold on to the good as well... you don't have to look, just know that it's there... it'll keep you from falling...
(the quote that Meta Knight said to Kirby originally came from Sir Arthur... that was told from Celestine...)
And even should you lose your way I know you'll find it again... you'll always be a worthy king to me. I love you too Arthur... and I always will.... (*they share one passionate kiss*)
It was a kiss Arthur had so longed for, but it was laced with so much sorrow and joy all at the same time...
Arthur: I don't wanna let you go-* Gets knocked out by Minerva...
She had informed Minerva before the trial (and of course was devastated but was willing to fulfill her last request). And who stood behind her were Darius & Kit the only three witnesses to what really happened. Kit realizes that Celestine is Merlyn... She then handed off and knocked out Arthur to Darius & Kit Cosmo.
And made sure they promised to paint Arthur as the hero who defeated her. And fled the scene and Minerva went to her best friend and hugged her one last time... and fled with the others.
When they had all left to safety... she lifted the smoke screen only to see a hoard of Ancients led by Uther try to arrest her. She flew into the air Celestine had her Gravity wicked moment... as her body finally was about to shatter into pieces.
Celestine: I curse you all, *putting one final spell cursing the Ancients* (basically she's the reason why they all disappeared)
As her body started to implode they mistook it to be a suicide bombing and she was planning to take them all down with her... thinking quick the Ancients Crystalized to prevent the explosion...
But in that moment she has one final vision of Arthur taking the seat as leader of the GSA. She smiles and says "I always you could do it Wart *starts cry* It's just too bad I'll never be able to see it in person".
Arthur woke up in the hospital wing hearing... Darius & Kit recount the story of the incident. With the way Kit & Darius spun it was Arthur who saved the day... (Arthur realized this was all part of Celestine's plan: to give him a title that would protect him even when she was gone...) Arthur * began to weep* with Kit trying to comfort him the best he could...
Making Arthur (to the Ancients) irreplaceable... being able to take down a Hero of Yore when they (Icarus & Uther) could not. Being extremely grateful (and needing a new holy figure), gave him the title of "Holy Knight," and said they owed him one favor...
(So basically he got credit for defeating the love of his life & took her place as the GSA's holy figure...)
So in summary:
Before being detained, she managed to rip off Icarus' wings, blind Uther in his right eye, and kill about 500 Ancients. She was trying to escape only to be stopped by Sir Arthur, who defeated her in battle. But tried to escape only to be cornered by the remaining soldiers... and seeing she had nowhere else to run...
Despite the efforts of the Ancients to paint her as wicked, people could not believe in the shame of a trial. Especially Minerva, when she heard this false slander on her best friend (she had enough of it)... she declared Halcandra's formal separation from the GSA. Cutting them from Halcandra's advanced technology caused an even bigger scandal. And had put her down to silence her as well... removing her...
(What happened to Darius... well that's a story for later)
Ruining their reputation even further... destroying the pristine image they had built up until now. And those who were at the trail were split in the middle... On one hand, it seemed like she had gone on a rampage because of her unfair judgment and merely reacted because she was pushed into the corner. On the other hand, she had always been hiding away her true nature & hatred for all of them, and once she had been found out... she unleashed all of it.
Were both true...
As a result, the Ancients tried to erase her from existence... from the galaxy, with only the remaining Ancients & the Heroes of Yore remembering her... Celestine had become forgotten.` Basically, she was described as (by the Ancients) the unspeakable third who tried to destroy them all & maliciously take them down with her. And she had to be erased...
However, this did not remedy the situation... Uther was still haunted by Celestine's vision he must hunt down the pink warrior... he will not have his reign end. Icarus was all too happy to take over the Halcandra projects... however, was always constantly reminded of being reduced to flightless astral and still hates her to this day.
While everyone had forgotten Celestine: they all remembered Merlyn. But even though, "Merlyn" had become a legend, many doubted the actual existence... of this supernatural being.
However, there was one person who managed to remember her... and that's where her story ends...
Or maybe not...
Her crystallization saved her preventing her from exploding... So she was still alive in there. They tried to hide her crystal in a cave and seal it off so no one would find her... Little did they know that the cave held one of the dark portals of Morpho accidentally ending up in the underworld...
And guess who ends up accidentally winds up there.
Tumblr media
BTW they got married in the Underworld
I actually planned this out to be a tragedy, but I ended up making them have a happy ending... (that I can't reveal just yet how it happens in the story)
BUT BEST BELIEVE OUR GIRL GETS EVERYTHING SHE DESERVES AND SITS ON THE THRONE WITH HER KING WHERE SHE BELONGS!
And if you read this long thank you for reading! <3

So, it's becoming a series! I cannot promise regular updates as I am in my final year of university, and start back up at my graduate job in september, but I am really enjoying writing this so I'm aiming for at least once a month, but maybe more. I do also have another series in the works which I want to post soon as well, so keep on the lookout for that one! I’ve never written anything like this before so bear with me if it’s not very good! Please enjoy, I really do hope this is entertaining for you, and have a wonderful day/afternoon/evening! Lots of love, Caitlin <3

Baldur’s Gate. The jewel of the Sword Coast. Granted, you never knew there was supposedly a dragon sleeping under the city before the invasion, but still. A wonderful place to live. Life here was easier for someone like you, the eldest daughter of the Apothecary Merchant. Father had spent most of the money he made to dress you in the finest of clothes, hire chefs to teach you to make the finest of meals, and ensure you were surrounded by the best trained ladies in waiting possible. Status meant everything to him, and you knew you had to marry up to please him. Being the eldest of three girls, you were schooled in house making, cooking, mathematics, business, politics- anything and everything that would endear you to one of the knowledgeable and wealthy bachelors your father was hoping to wed you to. Your younger sisters however were afforded the luxury to follow their throws of passion and learn dance, music, or geography to teach and travel. You didn’t much care for home making, your fascination with the foul words in other languages usually left your tutor giggling after you begged her to teach you them. You were smart, quick with numbers and well versed in politics and business. It was something your father loved about you. The daughter that would lift them even higher in status. You were his political pawn.
You were with your mathematics tutor when she burst through the door. Your mother, her face flushed, chest rising and falling rapidly with her heavy breaths.
“The- The King wants you to attend the ball.” She spoke. “The ball for the princes to choose their brides. He has called for you specifically.”
“Oh?” You didn’t so much as look away from your work, still toying away with the problems in front of you.
“Yes! Oh Gods girl, what are we to do with you?” Your tutor excused himself as your mother swanned towards the large windows. She was as dramatic a woman as you had ever met, and you loved her for it. Turning to face you, her dress billowed, and it struck you yet again how beautiful she was. You knew she used to be the catch; the young daughter of a cattle farmer swept into the Sword Coast by her wild fancies and taking Baldur’s Gate by storm. She married your father in a rather quickly arranged match, both being only 21 and your bump already starting to show through her clothes. She had always held a special place in your life, and the closeness in age only solidified your bond.
“You’re to help me avoid it. You know I want nothing to do with the royal family.” You raised an eyebrow, smirk playing on your lips as you turned another page in your book.
“It’s such a shame. You should go, if not for yourself but for me. It says and family and you know how much your sisters and I would love it!” Her fingers danced across the edge of the paper, twirling the red silk ribbon that used to hold the envelope closed as she read and reread the words.
“You know, there must be a specific reason they invited you. I heard only four girls and their families were invited specifically by name.” He voiced wavered, tone light, eyes meeting yours with that twinkle you knew meant trouble. Sometimes it felt like you were the parent in this.
“Will I need a new dress?” With that she squealed and swept you into her arms.
“Oh darling! You are going to love this!” Untangling her arms from around you she ran from the room and to the staircase.
“Girls! Darling! Come downstairs, your sister has an announcement!”
It was dark outside when you were finally allowed to rest. Your mother had dragged you and your sisters around every tailor in the city, eventually settling on a beautiful, glittered gown from the Facemaker’s that made it look like you were dripping in starlight. Your sisters marvelled at you, them seemingly more excited for your prospects than you were. As you stood before the full-length mirror, watching the way light danced across the dress you caught your own breath. You stood tall, the shimmering fabric laying against your body as if made solely for you. Your face now seemingly had the allure you always attributed to your mother, the colour of your eyes mirroring her own beautiful hue. It was the first time you felt a fraction as beautiful as her. That’s why you let your mother buy the dress, but you’d never tell her that.
The evening was warm as you took a book from the library and made your way to the balcony. Lighting the lamp on the table you slipped yourself onto the velvet covered seat and pulled the small blanket around your legs, hiking them up to your chest. It was here you sat, absorbed in the words of scholars until a small cough caught your attention. This was routine at this point, so you put your book down and pulled yourself from the seat, dangling a hand over the railing in front of you before leaning your head over. The man clasped your hand and smiled up at you.
It had all been an accident, you meeting Seokmin and Wonwoo. You weren’t supposed to be walking unescorted to Sorcerers’ Sundries, well technically you weren’t supposed to be walking there at all, but what Father didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him. You had stopped but for a moment to watch the magic show at the front entrance when you felt a hand dip into your pockets. You grasped their wrist and turned, only to be met with a small child.
“I’m-I’m so sorry miss, please let me go.” The tiny tiefling looked terrified, eyes wide and lower lip trembling. Immediately you dropped your guard, gaze softening and grip on their arm loosening.
“Child, no need to be scared I won’t call the Fists. But let’s not go picking anymore pockets hm?” They nodded, thanking you as they scurried away. Thats when you heard the laughter. Two tall men, eyes dark and trained directly on you and the scurrying child.
“What are you two laughing at huh?” The slightly broader one cocked an eyebrow at you, and the other pointed behind you. There you saw the scared tiefling, not so scared anymore as them and their friend – who you hadn’t noticed until now – were poking their tongues out at you as they waved a purse above their heads.
“That’s mine!” You shouted as they hurried off, tails wagging and giggles filling the dark streets.
“You fell for that hook line and sinker.” One of the hooded men let a plume of smoke escape his lips and curled them into a smile. “Are you new here or something?”
“No, no. Look at her, she’s a sheltered little princess I bet.” The other said, closing the distance between you and him. You finally got a good look at him. Dark eyes, golden tanned skin, a smile spread across his face that lit a fire in your stomach. He leaned down, face now only inches from yours. “Such a sheltered little princess, aren’t you?” There was an earthiness to him, a woody smell that danced under a zesty citrus. This was no commoner’s perfume.
“Who are you?”
Wonwoo’s eyes shone from below you on the balcony, that same smile lighting that spark deep in your soul. He was intelligent, worldly, but most of all, he was kind. He climbed up the balcony as usual, pulling you into his embrace and kissing you. It was hot, fiery and passionate. It always felt like he was swallowing you whole, devouring every part of you. He pushed you backwards, lowering you into the plush of the loveseat as his body covered your own. His mouth never left yours, tongue playing against your bottom lip as you gave him entrance. He moaned, fingers running through your hair and pulling, revealing the length of your neck to him. He kissed down it, careful not to leave any marks as he did so.
“My beautiful girl, my pretty girl.” His lips left a searing trail down to your chest, his hands trailing down your sides, bunching up your dress to reach your core.
“Wonwoo, baby, we can’t. Not tonight.” It was almost useless, his lips never stopped working against your neck, teeth nipping at your pulse point. “Wonwoo, baby.” A whine left him that had a throb course through your body and set that flame burning.
“Don’t tell me to stop baby please.” He kissed you again, hands never stopping their assault on you. “Please don’t tell me I can’t play with my pretty girl’s pretty pussy.” His eyes darkened, teeth bit down harder, and you could almost feel the punctures from his canines.
“This pretty pussy has been invited to the King’s ball. This pretty pussy might have just been sold off by her ever-scheming father.” He stalled at this, hands stopping their assault and mouth leaving your skin.
“What?” His eyes were trained on yours as you swallowed thickly.
“We got the invitation today. Gods know how he did it. But he did.” Wonwoo moved off you, settling into the space beside you.
“Are you happy? With the idea I mean?” You let out a short laugh, cold and harsh.
“Happy? Why would I be happy? No one has ever seen them, been allowed near them, and what? I’m supposed to marry one of them. Be used as breeding stock. Finally put all this stupid training to use.” He laughed softly from beside you.
“You think this is funny? My life being sold off to the highest bidder and you laugh?”
“No! No, it’s not like that I promise.” His arms were around you again, pulling you into his chest. “I think there’s more to this than you know. Go to the party. You might be pleasantly surprised that’s all.” His lips were on yours again. “And no matter what happens, I’ll never let anyone else touch you the way I do.”
The morning broke through your curtains and the man beside you stirred. His chest was warm beneath your cheek as you kissed the arm draped around you.
“Darling, you must go before we get caught. Again.” He groaned, rolling the pair of you over, trapping you beneath him. That smile was back, softly lit by the warm glow of the sun pouring in through the windows. “Wonwoo, baby please.” His lips were soft against yours, pouring love into you like there was no tomorrow. His fingertips danced across your skin, raising goosebumps in their wake. He rolled his hips into you, want evident at the broken gasp that left his lips. “Wonwoo baby.” You moaned out, fingers moving to his shoulder blades. He rolled his hips again, the slickness of your cunt allowing for him to rock smoothly and bump his cockhead into your clit. “Wonwoo, we can’t.” But your body gives you away, the roll of your hips as you shake beneath him has him lining up instantly.
“Princess, say no right now and I won’t do it. But say yes and I’ll give you a baby. I’ll fuck you so full it has no option but to stick. You’ll be mine.” Your lips chased his as you nodded frantically against him.
“Yes Wonwoo, yes yes yes.” He pushed in, cock stretching you as you raked your nails down his back. His thrusts were deep, angling his hips to hit that spot inside of you.
“My princess wants a baby yeah? Wants me to fuck her full?” He growled into your ear, hips smashing into yours.
“Please, wanna make you a daddy.” You purred back. His hand snaked between your bodies, fingers rubbing circle after circle into your swollen clit as you arched up into him. He never stopped kissing you, never stopped whispering praise into your mouth as you came around him.
“Please Wonwoo, want you to fill me up. Please.” You dug your nails into his skin, drawing a hiss from him. He’s panting, sweat lining his forehead as he thrust into you again and again, bringing you to orgasm over and over until you couldn't take it anymore. He pushes you over the edge again and again, having you crying his name into his mouth over and over as you beg for him to finish in you, mark you as his.
But he doesn’t. He pulls out as he always does and finishes onto your thigh. It’s over then, the light shifting to a cold blue as the sun shifts behind a cloud. He moves away from you, gathering his clothes and dressing.
“When will I see you again?” He pauses, eyes meeting your own.
“You won’t see me like this for a while. At least, not this version of me.” You don’t know what that means, but he doesn’t give you any time to ask as he kisses you again so softly. His hand caresses your face, thumb rubbing your cheek as a tear falls from his face and onto yours. “But you will see me again, I promise.” As he pulls away, he places a final kiss on your forehead before stepping back towards your balcony. You let him go like you always do, but not without that horrible hole ripping through your chest.
The night of the ball drew closer, and there was no sign of Wonwoo or his brother. You were alone. The lessons ramped up, your father wanting there to be no chance of failure. You were his pawn, and he was so ready to make that final check. Your mother tried to get through the walls you put up, your sisters gushed every day about how lucky you were, how you were going to have the life of your dreams. But you weren’t. You wouldn’t be with Wonwoo. Wouldn’t be able to kiss him again, wouldn’t be able to hold him. You’d never be able to make him a dad.
“Your invitation madam?” Your mother was positively glowing with excitement, your sisters each hanging off one of your arms, you suspect to stop you from running. Your mother presents the invitation, and the guard cocks an eyebrow. “Please, this way for special guests.” You were escorted towards a separate entrance, a large pair of white wooden doors beset by giant boars on each side. The doors were parted for you, and the entrance was the most beautiful you’d ever seen. You were ushered inside, your sisters gasping and pointing at the artwork lining the walls. But your eyes were drawn to the three other girls.
“They’re your competition child.” Your father pulled you aside from your sisters and scanned you from head to toe. “But you’ve got a brain to best all of them. Be smart, be strong. Be the girl I raised you to be.” You glanced back over to them. Each one you knew to be a member of one of the aristocracies, as you were. You vaguely remember having a run in with the half-elf, but if she remembered you, she gave nothing away in the cold gaze she returned.
“If everyone is now here?” A voice sounded from the stairs above you. Your eyes followed where it was coming from, and the woman you saw standing there was the most beautiful you had ever seen. Dark eyes, with even darker hair cascading down her back that held soft curls that bounced as she began to walk towards you all. You had never seen this woman before, but something pulled at you from your stomach as if you recognised her.
“You are all chosen specifically by the princes themselves. My sister's sons wouldn’t allow for our intervention, so feel very lucky. Some of you would never have made it this far.” Her eyes fell on you at this, and your father bristled beside you. “Now, if you’ll follow me.” She sauntered towards the large doors across the marbled floors. You moved to follow the queen's sister, silently cursing yourself for not recognising her as your legs pulled you along before your brain could think of a reason to turn and run. She demanded that the girls line up, manhandling you all into a line with you left on the end. Your families were to follow along behind, and not say a word.
There was a commotion behind the doors, music filled whatever room you were about to be ushered into and laughter and conversations could barely be heard through these giant doors. You tried to smooth out the non-existent wrinkles of your dress, hands moving on their own as you chewed on your bottom lip.
There was a moment of silence before the doors swung open, and an even longer moment of silence when all the eyes in the ballroom fell upon you. Your gaze flitted from person to person, not a single face you couldn’t put a name to. Families with daughters much better suited for this match burned holes into your skull from jealousy. You were standing there, with the whole world at your fingertips and their daughter wasn’t.
You were ushered down the steps before you, the sea of people parting as the four of you made your ways forward. Your eyes were on the floor as you had been instructed to do so, never for a second daring to look upon the men sitting at the other end of the ballroom.
“This is the half-elf Carmae of the Boat Merchant.” You were right about recognising her then.
“This is the high elf Dauphine of the Gold Merchant.” You heard her light steps, the small “Hello sirs.” that sounded so beautiful falling from her lips as she greeted the men.
“This is the wood elf Avalynne of the Cloth Merchant.” You were next.
“This is the human Y/n of the Apothecary Merchant.” You stepped forward, curtseying as you were taught, eyes moving up to acknowledge the men before you.
“Hello sirs-“ Those eyes. That smile. Wonwoo sat before you, hand rested on his chin as he surveyed you. You felt a churning in your stomach as you let your eyes fall upon Seokmin beside him. His soft curls sat upon his head as he smiled ever so softly at you.
“We can now begin.” The music started up again as the crowd of people swallowed you up. Your sisters beamed at you as people swarmed you. They wanted to know where you got your dress “The Facemaker.” You politely replied. Who did your hair? “My mother wanted to.” You smiled at them. You were pulled from conversation to conversation. Every family wanted a piece of you. But your mind was back on Wonwoo. Your heart calling out to him across the floor.
His eyes followed you, dark and cold like you’d never seen them before.
“Wonwoo, calm down. She’s yours I’m not going to take her.” Seokmin leant over to his older brother, giggling slightly at the older man’s demeanour.
“I know you’re not. But they might.” He followed his brother’s gaze to the men being introduced to you by their fathers. “It seems like being the prince’s chosen gives a girl a certain…” His eyes scanned the crowd of men now surrounding you. Your father ever so keen to get you introduced to as many of them as possible. You were trying to be amicable, that soft smile on your face hiding the discomfort you felt. The burn of jealousy coursed through his veins as he watched you laugh and smile at these fools. If only they knew what he’d done to you, the noises he could pull from you with just his tongue or fingers. The way you beg him to cum in you, the tears in your eyes as he fucks you through another orgasm. You’d be too much for those idiots, they couldn’t make you feel how he did. Couldn’t make your body react the way he did.
“The princes will now have their first dance with each of the chosen.” Wonwoo and Seokmin stood, and the floor was cleared again. You finally found yourself walking back towards the man who held your heart in his hands and smiled. Wonwoo noticed that it finally reached your eyes.
“It is lovely to meet you Y/n.” He placed a soft kiss against the back of your hand.
“It is my honour sir.” You smiled even wider this time as he drew you closer as the music began.
“I hope you’re a good dancer.” He flashed you that dazzling smile once more as the music began up again.
“I hope you are too sir.” You felt the flush creep up your cheeks as the two of you started to dance. Your eyes glued to his as he led you across the floor, his never once leaving yours. You finally got what he meant that morning. While this was a surprise, you’d help him play the part for as long as it took to get your Wonwoo back.

The first rays of light began to peek through the curtains of your window, and you could feel the excitement bubbling inside you. You knew that today was going to be a good day, and you were ready to start it off with a smile. You got out of bed and stretched, taking in the sweet and melodious chirping of the birds outside your window. It was the first days of the spring you have so long awaited. The gentle breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers, and you couldn't help but feel grateful for the simple pleasures of life. It was a beautiful morning, and you felt blessed to be alive to witness it.
Jackson had been your home for three years now, and it was a place that held a special place in your heart. You had stumbled upon the settlement when you were traveling alone, fighting to survive in a world overrun by infected. But when you arrived, you knew that you had finally found your new home and your people. The settlement was small, but tight-knit, and you felt a sense of belonging that you had not experienced in a long time. The community had welcomed you with open arms, and it wasn't long before you had found your place among them.
Despite the dangers that lurked outside the safety of the settlement, you refused to let fear and despair take hold of you. Your bubbly and sweet nature had won the hearts of people, and your infectious positivity had become a glimmer of hope for everyone around you, instilling them with the strength to carry on. Your infectious positivity spread like wildfire, warming the hearts of people and reminding them that even in the darkest of times, there was always a reason to smile.
The outside world was a dark and unforgiving place, ravaged by the Cordyceps brain infection that had left only a fraction of humanity standing. You felt like you could hear the distant sounds of infected roaming in the wilds beyond the walls every day, which was a constant reminder that the safety of the settlement was a fragile thing.
But despite these challenges, you believed that there was always something to be grateful for. Whether it was the warm rays of the sun on your face or the simple pleasure of a home-cooked meal, you knew that the small things in life were what made it all worthwhile.
In Jackson you had been entrusted with the care of the greenhouses. From an early age, you had been surrounded by the beauty of nature, thanks to your mother, who was a florist herself. She had instilled in you a love for all things green and growing, and you had spent countless hours by her side, learning the art of nurturing and caring for plants.
Every day the houses of hundreds of plants welcomed you with open arms. You could feel the warm, humid air wrap around you, enveloping you in a cozy embrace as you stepped inside. The space was bursting with life, with lush greenery and vibrant blooms stretching up towards the ceiling. It was your responsibility to tend to these plants, to ensure that they flourished and thrived under your care. And you took that responsibility very seriously.
As you donned your gloves and apron, you felt a sense of purpose and dedication wash over you. You knew that the work you did here was important, not just for the plants, but for the community as a whole. Each day, you would make your way down the rows of plants, checking on each one carefully. You looked for signs of growth, of health, of disease. And when you found something that needed attention, you would carefully tend to it, pruning and watering and adjusting the lighting as needed.
It was hard work, there was no denying that. Your back would ache from bending over the plants for hours on end, and your hands would be raw from the constant labor. But despite the physical toll it took on you, you loved every minute of it.
The greenhouse was more than just a place to work for you; it was a sanctuary. It provided an escape from the harsh realities of the world outside, a place where you could lose yourself in the beauty and tranquility of nature.
The plants seemed to breathe life into the space around you, filling the air with their sweet, earthy scent. The rustling of their leaves and the buzzing of the bees created a symphony that surrounded you, and as you sang softly to yourself, your voice blending seamlessly with the sounds of nature, you felt truly alive. In this moment, there was nothing else but the beauty of the world around you.
You were not naive. You knew that outside the Jackson's protective walls, danger and uncertainty loomed. You knew that the world was still a dangerous place, and that there were no guarantees of safety or security, but for a brief moment, you let go of the fear and focused on the present moment, finding solace in the simple pleasures of life.
You chose to see the good in everything around you, finding comfort in the beauty of nature and the kindness of your fellow friends. Each smile, kind word, or small gesture brought warmth to your heart and hope to your soul. Every day, you woke up with a sense of gratitude. You were grateful for the opportunity to work in such a beautiful place, and to be surrounded by such incredible life. You were grateful for every moment of happiness, no matter how small. As you tended to the plants, you took pride in the fact that you were providing food for the community of the settlement. It gave you a sense of purpose and fulfillment that few other things could match. You knew that your hard work and dedication made a difference, and that was enough to keep you going, even in the face of adversity.
In the midst of a world filled with chaos, you never thought you would find love. Every day brought new challenges and obstacles that made you question what the future held. But, there was a moment when you felt as though fate had other plans for you. It was a feeling that you couldn't shake, and despite your initial skepticism, you began to embrace the warmth that spread throughout your chest.
At first, you tried to ignore it, believing that it was just a passing fancy. You had seen so many relationships crumble under the weight of life's challenges, especially now, that you were hesitant to even consider the possibility of love. But, the feeling persisted, and you found yourself daydreaming about a future with someone who could stand by your side through thick and thin.
And that’s when you met Joel Miller.
When he first arrived in Jackson there was still snow all around and the temperatures outside left much to be desired. That didn't mean, that you didn't have things to do in your greenhouses. Working with plants, you had your hands full at any time of the year, because taking care of them, doesn't end with planting them at the right time. Despite the misconception that winter meant less work, you were always busy. You had lost too many important people in your life, and you were determined not to lose the plants that were dependent on you. So, you made sure to take all the necessary measures to ensure their survival, even in the harshest of weather.
The first time you encountered Miller was when you were moving heavy boxes of frozen soil into the greenhouse. As you stood near the building with one of them in your arms, you couldn't help but feel a little intimidated by Joel. He was tall and broad-shouldered, with a serious expression on his face that made him seem unapproachable. His hair was disheveled by the wind, and there were lines etched around his eyes that suggested he didn't smile very often.
You immediately noticed how different he was from you. While you were outgoing and sociable with a smile that could light up a room, he seemed to be the complete opposite. Joel seemed to be reserved and kept to himself most of the time, rarely initiating conversations with others. Additionally, he appeared to be in a grumpy mood, which only added to his aloof attitude. His arms were crossed tightly over his chest, and he looked like he would rather be anywhere else but there, dealing with the freezing cold boxes.
Despite this less-than-stellar first impression, you made a conscious effort not to jump to conclusions about him. You knew that you couldn't judge someone based on a single interaction. As someone who didn't believe in judging a book by its cover, you knew from experience that there was always more to a person than met the eye. Perhaps he was going through a tough time or simply needed some time to warm up to new people.
Looking back, you were glad you gave Joel a chance. After he returned to Jackson from his journey with Ellie, he began to seek out your company. Despite his initial impression of seeming to dislike you, it was clear that he appreciated having you in his life. He kept popping in your greenhouses whenever he had a chance, and it was always a pleasure to have him around. In fact, you got the feeling that he liked being around you even more than you enjoyed having him around yourself. It was as though he found comfort in your presence, and you were happy to be a source of that comfort for him.
And today was no different. You were lost in your own world, consumed by the task of tending to the lush greenery around you. Your fingers delicately plucked at old leaves and removed the weeds that threatened to smother the life out of your beloved plants. You knelt amidst the shrubbery, surrounded by a cacophony of sounds – he rustling of leaves, the gentle dripping of nearby water, and the distant hum of people.
Suddenly, a familiar voice broke your reverie, pulling you back to reality. It was Joel's voice, and it was the sweetest sound you'd like to hear all day. You lifted your head and peered through the thick foliage towards the entrance of the greenhouse. Your heart swelled with joy as you saw Joel approaching, his steady gait bringing him closer to you.
“Y/N?” Joel called out again, his voice jolting you back to the present. You got up, brushing the dirt off your knees and discarding your gloves. You stepped out of the shrubs and onto the path between the plant beds, a smile spreading across your lips. Joel smiled too. “Hey there, how’s my favorite plant lady doing today?” he asked, his voice warm and friendly.
You chuckled, feeling the corners of your eyes crinkle with amusement. “Hi, Joel,” you replied, making your way towards him. “You won't believe it, but absolutely nothing has changed since yesterday,” you joked, happy to see someone you cared for. You couldn't help but notice that Joel was holding one of his hands behind his back, but you didn't pay it much attention.
“How about you?” you asked, eager to know what he had been up to.
“You haven't heard yet, have you?” Joel teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“Heard of what?” you queried, your brow furrowing slightly. You tossed the gloves aside and pushed back a stray strand of hair that had escaped your bun while you were engrossed in your work.
Joel watched you closely, his hand still concealed. Then, with a flourish, he brought his hand forward, revealing a tiny ball of fur. You gasped in delight as you saw the adorable kitten nestled in Joel's palm.
The world around you faded away as you focused solely on the little being. You took the kitten from Joel's hands, and it let out a soft meow as you held it close. Tears of joy filled your eyes as you looked down at the furry creature in your arms.
“Where did you get it?” you asked, your voice hushed and filled with wonder.
“He came to the gate this morning,” Joel explained. “Not sure where he came from. They sent a few people to check the immediate area, maybe there are more.”
You looked up at Joel and saw a side of him that you'd never seen before. His features were relaxed and his expression was serene, a gentle smile playing at the corners of his lips as he watched you cradle the kitten in your arms. He seemed at peace, and it filled you with a sense of contentment.
You held the kitten closer to your chest, feeling its warmth seep into your body. It was a tiny creature, but it had brought so much happiness into your life in that one moment.
As you and Joel walked out of the greenhouse, he suddenly brought up a detail from one of your earlier conversations. “If I remember correctly, you mentioned having a cat when you were young, didn’t you?” he asked, catching you off guard.
You were taken aback that he remembered such a seemingly insignificant detail, especially since you had been doing most of the talking during your time together in the greenhouse. However, Joel had always been a great listener, making you feel heard and understood. You had found yourself opening up more than usual and sharing stories about your life before the Cordyceps outbreak. Despite the apparently one-sided nature of your conversations, Joel had been paying closer attention than you thought. “Did you really remember that?” you asked in surprise.
Joel chuckled. “Of course I did. You told me all about it.”
“Its name was Aster,” you added, recalling your beloved childhood pet fondly.
Joel looked at you with a curious expression. “Why did you choose that name? Have I asked you before?” he inquired. You couldn’t resist sitting down on a nearby bench, the warmth of the spring sun comforting against your skin. The little ball of fur that Joel had brought along, against your wishes, immediately made its way over him, curious about the zipper on his jacket.
“My mother picked that name,” you explained, watching the kitten, which looked even tinier next to the man. “It’s actually related to flowers,” you said cheerfully, attracting Joel's attention. You knew he wasn't familiar with plants, but you loved sharing your knowledge with him and he loved listening to everything you had to say.
Joel looked intrigued. “How so?” he asked.
“My mother's favorite flowers have always been asters,” you continued. “Each plant has its own meaning, these have one too,” you explained. “Asters symbolize patience and love. When you adopt a cat, you usually need some patience for those sweet eyes,” you said, reaching out to pet the kitten, which had now curled up against Joel's thigh and was purring contentedly.
You couldn't help but laugh softly as you added, “And besides, my mom found it in the garden, near the asters.” You realized that the actual reason for the name was probably not as deep as you had made it out to be.
To your surprise, Joel's deep, quiet chuckle filled the air in response. “And what is your favorite kind of flower?” he asked, his curiosity piqued.
You thought for a moment before answering, “I've always had a soft spot for daisies. We used to have them all over our front lawn when I was a kid,” you said, looking ahead at the people bustling about in the streets of the settlement in the distance. A gentle breeze swept over your face, and you closed your eyes, a soft smile spreading across your lips. “I haven't seen them in a long time,” you admitted in a hushed tone, your voice tinged with a hint of sadness.
Joel's expression softened as he gazed at you, taking in the wistful look on your face. “I'll have to keep an eye out for them on our next supply run,” he said, his tone warm and reassuring.
You opened your eyes and looked at him gratefully. “That would be nice,” you said, feeling a little lighter at the thought of seeing daisies again.
Joel's eyes lingered on the sleeping kitten before turning to you. His question was simple, yet there was a meaningful glint in his gaze. “Do you still have a lot of plant work to do?” he asked.
You looked down at the tiny ball of fur and replied, “Not really, why?”
“We need to show the little one his new home,” he said, his words laced with emotion as he watched the kitten.
You suddenly felt like a little girl again, as though you had just received the pet of your dreams from your parents. “Do you mean my house?” you asked, excitement bubbling up inside you.
Joel's response was filled with praise. “I think you are the best person this kitten could have come across,” he said, watching as a smile spread across your face. “The others will agree with me, you know it well.”
“Really?” you asked, holding your hands close to your chest in anticipation of his response. When he nodded confirmatively, without a moment's hesitation, you threw your arms around Joel, wrap him in a tight hug. You were careful not to awaken the sleeping kitten with your sudden burst of energy.
It was the first time you had hugged him, the first time you had invaded his personal space. Your love language was touch, and hugs were very familiar to you and close to your heart. However, Joel was frozen in place, unsure of how to react to the physical contact, which made you realize that he had a different nature than you.
Joel had forgotten what it felt like to be hugged. Years had passed since anyone had embraced him, and he had become accustomed to loneliness. The unexpected warmth of your hug caught him off guard, and at first, he stiffened. But as you held him, Joel felt a long-forgotten sensation begin to spread through his body. It was like a memory coming back to life.
You moved away from him awkwardly, afraid to lift your gaze to his face. You didn't know what kind of reaction to expect. “Um,” you stuttered, clearing your throat. “Sorry,” you said more quietly. Only after a moment filled with nothing but the noise of the nature that surrounded you, you decided to look at Joel's face.
He looked at you with surprise, his eyes wandering over your face while his gray hair was blown away by the gentle breeze. He hadn't realized how much he had missed this kind of physical contact until now. Finally, he let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. “You should name him Cuddle,” he said with a hint of amusement in his voice, referring to the kitten.
Then, Joel put his arm around you, pulling you close to him. You felt a wave of warmth wash over you, and you leaned into him, savoring the comforting embrace. It was a moment you would never forget, the first time you had hugged Joel Miller, the man who had given you the perfect gift.

The days leading up to Christmas couldn't have gone any faster. Before you knew it you were waving the students goodbye on the Hogsmeade station platform, sending them off to the warmth of their families.
You however, were welcoming your family home.
"There it is!" Professor Onai grinned from beside you, pointing ahead at the face of a train pushing through thick white smoke. With a loud toot, the chugging machine came to a halt, the carriage doors springing open.
Out onto the platform stepped your best friend, the person you were missing most in the world, Natty. Wrapped up in a red woollen jumper and her braided hair floating in the wind, she was glowing. Her mother stepped past you, pulling her into a hug, causing you to beam at their joy. However it wasn't long before you were pulled into that hug too, giggling in the cold with your favourite person. Well, second favourite person.
It meant everything to see Natty again, to know she was safe. The admiration you felt for her went beyond words. She was the one person you could really use some advice from right now, but you dare not ask. To run the risk of Sebastian's life was too much. In fact, you hadn't told Natty a thing about his condition, nor the details of your new found closeness. The last Natty heard you were dating Garreth, Merlin you'd better update her on that too..
You hadn't managed to get a word in the whole walk back to the castle, she had plenty to tell her Mother which you of course understood. Besides, something else had your attention as the three of you stumbled through the snow. The lake. Every time you passed it you found yourself hypnotised, it was all but impossible to focus knowing that what you needed could lie beneath the thick ice that still remained in place of rolling waves.
A tight clasp suddenly grabbed your wrist.
"Don't."
Professor Onai's word rang deep, echoing in your skull. She knew something.
Natty turned to her mother, completely baffled at what she was doing.
"What's going on?" She said cautiously, aware that clearly her mothers gift had come to use.
"I don't know what you're thinking of doing down there, but don't." The Professor paused for a moment, slowly closing her eyes. "I sense only danger, the darkest and coldest kind. Happiness being snapped away in an instant. You.... And someone else."
There was a silence between the three of you. A real dampener on the joy that was ringing just moments ago.
"Mother, please not now-" Natty broke the silence.
"No-" you interrupted. "I understand, I- I won't," you lied.
The Professor nodded to you, snapping out of it in a instant.
"Don't look at me like that!" She said to Natty with a chuckle, as the two of them made their way towards the castle walls. You lingered behind them a couple of paces, your mind spinning about what this could all mean, attempting to process.
"I uh, have somewhere I need to be. I'll see you at dinner?" You called out with a smile as they approached the door.
Natty nodded and waved, mouthing the words 'I'm sorry!" as she closed the door behind her.
You went to the only place you knew could provide any solace right now, the undercroft.
~~~
As you sat in the corner of the candlelit chamber, your thoughts scoured for any kind of answer.
Did you even believe in divination anyway? Sebastian always insisted it was a load of rubbish.
But what Professor Onai said, it was so.. specific. 'You and.. someone else' that someone else obviously being Sebastian. Danger in the lake, it was all.. worrisome.
There was nobody to confide in, you certainly couldn't tell Sebastian. And Natty, oh Merlin would you be in trouble for dabbling in all of this if she found out.
Perhaps you shouldn't dabble at all?
But Sebastian.. he'll...
It was an endless cycle, a cycle with no answer. And somehow you had let this cycle eat away at you for hours, as before long it was already time for dinner.
~~~
Wandering through the practically empty halls, you tried everything you could to push it all to the back of your mind. To enjoy one nice evening with your friend was all that you needed, and this gruesome prophecy was not going to ruin that.
You thought for a moment that you might have missed it as you stepped into the Great Hall, before remembering that most of the students had left for the holidays. Despite the room being completely empty, rows and rows of delicious food still remained, completely untouched.
A soft touch graced your waistline, luring you back in to the little room that stood between dinner and the halls of the castle. You didn't need to turn to know who it was, this gentleness had become oh so familiar, like returning home. Breath tickled your earlobe as a chin arrived on your shoulder, guiding you behind the door to remain out of sight.
"Sebastian.." came from under your breath. He said nothing, but you felt a grin stretch across his face at hearing his name. His fingertips exploring your waist further, you gave in, turning to face him as he pressed his forehead to yours. Interlacing your hand with his, you played with his fingers, letting out the smile you'd been trying to hold back.
"What is it?" You whispered with a blush, as if nothing of note had had you in crippling despair for the past few hours.
"Spend Christmas Eve with me?" He whispered back, his eyes begging you to say yes.
You were melting into him. It was hard to believe that this was the same man who was ignoring you just a few months ago. But you knew it was too good to be true, after all. He could be ripped away in an instant if you didn't hurry up and find this item. You wished more than anything that you could enjoy a single moment with him without reality plaguing your mind. A harsh reminder of how much you had to cherish this, before it was too late.
A quick 'ahem' interrupted your reply.
"What an interesting development," said a smug looking face, eyes filled with thrill.
"Natty-" Sebastian replied awkwardly, stepping back a little but keeping your fingers intertwined with his. "It's good to see you again."
By now you were looking like a tomato, blushing the deepest red, your eyes still glued to Sebastian.
"Come, MC. We have much to catch up on," Natty teased, gesturing you to follow.
Reluctantly you pulled your hand away from his, turning to Natty as she wandered into the hall.
Sebastian however, wasn't having it. With a gentle but powerful grip on your forearm he pulled you back in, bringing his hand to your cheek.
"I didn't get my answer."
"I think you know it's always yes."
~~~
"FINALLY!" Exclaimed Natty, a little too loud over the table, absolutely thrilled at the news that you and Sebastian were at last... something.
There was however a slight issue with the news, the entire story you just told her was a lie. You couldn't exactly tell her the truth, that Sebastian was cursed under an unbreakable vow, that his whole engagement was a sham. A little fluffed up story about how he had a change of heart would do much better in Natty's ears.
You'd become a bit of a frequent liar recently, which before all of this, was entirely out of character.
But was it? You'd spent a good portion of your life lying about, or to Sebastian. Lying about being completely fine with his engagement, pretending you'd never even had feelings for him in the first place. And now you're here, lying to your best friend because of those feelings. Lying to Garreth, lying to Sebastian again about not getting involved and now lying to yourself. Telling yourself it would all be okay, telling yourself you can save him.
Professor Onai's voice whispering in your head.
Can you really save him.. or are you doomed to fail?
~~~
It was Christmas Eve at last, and you stood outside Professor Sallows office door, balancing a tray of cookies atop a neatly wrapped gift.
Before you could even reach to knock, the door swung open. Sebastian stood before you, grinning ear to ear at the sight.
"Come in."
He lead you through and you carefully placed the cookies and gift on his desk. Candlelight flickered through the cinnamon smelling room as the fireplace roared in front of blanket covered sofa. With the same pile of books you'd left there sitting on a coffee table accompanied by two mugs of swirling hot chocolate.
"Is that for me?" Sebastian whispered eagerly, pointing to the gift like a little boy on Christmas morning.
It killed you to be a disappointment, but you had to tell the truth.
"The gift is for Anne, but the cookies are all yours," you said, perching on the edge of the sofa.
Despite your expectation, hearing the gift was not for him but for Anne only sent a soft smile across his lips. He sat down on the sofa beside you and took a breath. His hands traveled up towards you waist, closing you in as he pulled you forward. Before you knew it you were piled on top of him, laying across the sofa with his hand buried in your hair.
Your ear to his chest, the only thing breaking the silence was the rhythmic beating of his heart, and his slow breathing that raised your body ever so slightly.
"Thank you," he whispered, so quietly you weren't sure you were even meant to hear it. You also weren't sure what exactly he was thanking you for. The gift for Anne, or for just being there?
The Sebastian you knew before had entirely crumbled to dust, the hard exterior was no more. This man needed someone, someone to confide in, someone to hold him, and that someone was you.
You lay in bliss, intertwined under the heat of fire. Focusing only on the here and the now, making every attempt to forget the stakes that brought you here.
"As much as I'm truly enjoying this," Sebastian said softly. "I'd really like a cookie."
You sat up, beaming at him. He was absolutely adorable. His hair all disheveled from your fingertips, his freckles highlighted under the warm light. Tonight felt different, like you were seeing a side of him you hadn't yet, or at least not since you were students.
He reached over the cookies and took a bite, his eyes glowing as the taste hits his tongue.
"You did good."
And once again that smile left you a red stuttering mess.
Your eyes wandered over to the pile of books you still hadn't read, the ones Sebastian had forbid you from opening.
"May I?" You asked, reaching over to the top of the stack.
He chuckled, crossing his leg over the other.
"You don't need my permission. But treat yourself, since it's Christmas," he winked. "Besides, like I said.. there's nothing in there of note. And I know what you're looking for."
"What makes you so sure?" You said back, a hint of tease on your lips. You were certain he didn't know, not the specifics anyway.
He rolled his eyes with a smirk.
"Unless you have a sudden passion for archaeology, I think I know what you're doing."
"And I think I know more than you realise."
Sebastian leaned forward, his lips hovering yours, his eyes jet black.
"Then I suggest you quit while you're ahead."
Something in your brain switched in that moment. The tone of his voice seeping with desire. There was something so wrong about the way he just spoke to you, and there was something even more wrong about the way it made you feel.
Was it protective, was it a lack of faith? You didn't know. You only knew it filled you with fire, a need to keep going, a need to disobey his wishes.
The hunger inside of you only allowed for one thing, and that was pushing your lips against his. He met yours with a bite that travelled down to neck as he lowered you under him.
You were finally alone, no consequences, no interruptions. Nothing but pure desire that reflected in the heat of the fire beside you. You were all of each other, and nothing in the world could stop you.
~~~
Your eyes fluttered open as streaks of light soaked through the stained glass window. Quickly your mind began to piece together the memory of where exactly you were,  which was all confirmed when the strong arm wrapped around your body tightened. Sebastian.
Cramped together on his office sofa, you lay in nothing but his button up shirt that he was wearing when you arrived at the door.
Merlin, this was not how you expected the night to go, but you were not even a little bit mad about it.
Sebastian whimpered in his slumber, his bare chest pressed firmly against your back. If only you could have stayed there forever. But you couldn’t, it was Christmas Day, and Anne was waiting for you.
You shuffled under the blanket, rolling over to face him. Your eyes followed the freckles across his face, you’d never had the chance to admire him so close, and somehow at such a distance he was even more perfect.
“Sebastian,” you whispered. “Merry Christmas.”
You placed a gentle kiss at the tip of his nose, prompting his eyes to blink open. Sebastian sighed out a smile as he focused on you, taking in the reality of you wrapped in his arms.
“I don’t think I could have dreamed of a better gift than this,” he chuckled under his breath before leaning his lips towards your collarbone and placing a soft kiss upon you.
As he did so, your gaze floated across the room, eventually landing on the clock above the fireplace.
“Merlin, we’re late!” You said, sitting up and attempting to cover yourself with the shirt hanging from your shoulders.
“Noo” Sebastian whined, trying to pull you back down into his arms.
“Stop it,” you giggled. “We have to see Anne.”
Sebastian’s eyes widened as he remembered the reason you were there in the first place. Nothing in the world would allow him to let down his sister, not even another day with you.
You had planned to take the floo system to Feldcroft from just outside of Hogsmeade. Originally however, the plan was to fly, but the heavy snowfall was simply not permitting.
Sebastian dragged you out of the castle, hand in hand and giggling. He couldn’t get enough of you, and the memory of you at his mercy the night before was fogging his rationality entirely. The emptiness of the castle grounds had given you both a sudden confidence, a chance to just be without the prying eyes of students.
All that consumed your mind was him, him and only him. That was until you stepped foot onto the crystallised path of ice that lead the way over the place you’d tried your hardest to forget about. The lake.
Once again that prophecy rang in your ears, causing your eyes to shift out of focus and your arms to stiffen. It was as if you’d forgotten entirely what was really going on.
The muffled sound of Sebastian’s voice lingered past the ringing, not quite able to reach your train of thought.
“MC…MC?”
You snapped out of it, suddenly facing Sebastian head on with his hands gripped upon your shoulders.
“MC? Are you alright?” His eyes filled with worry.
“What? Yes- sorry, I just zoned out there,” you stuttered.
Sebastian’s arms quickly reached under you, scooping you up like a princess. You had no idea what compelled him to do such a thing, but it was just what you needed to bring you back to reality. The warmth of his cheeks was so enticing in the icy wind, luring you to place your frozen lips against them.
Suddenly he picked up the pace, and started running away from the castle with you still clinging onto him.
“Sebastian!” You cried, unable to contain your laughter. Although you weren’t quite sure why, as you were certain this would end in disaster.
And you’d be right, he barely made it 10 metres before sliding on the frozen path. Squeezing your eyes tightly shut you buried your head into his neck, preparing for impact.
Sliding down he somehow maintained balance before coming to a halt, standing deadly still on a slope as you hung on for dear life.
“See, I’ve got you,” he panted with a smug expression.
Oh how he’d eat his words.
With one little step he came tumbling down, gripping you tightly as he slipped backwards. With a roll, he landed directly on top of you, cheeks flushed and hair covered in snow.
You stared at each other for a moment, before erupting into laughter. Collapsing into each other with such warmth the ice around you could have simply melted away.
This, this was how it was supposed to be.
~~~
You finally arrived at Feldcroft, covered head to toe in snowflakes. Still feeling rather giddy from the events of the day, you turned to Sebastian with bashful smile, hoping to be met with his in return.
But you were not.
What was a confident charming man just moments ago, had been replaced by a haunting sombre figure.
“Sebastian..” you began, gently touching his arm compassionately.
“I’m alright, it’s just hard… being here.” He rubbed his face with his palm, avoiding any eye contact. “Do you mind if I, go in first?”
You nodded.
And so you watched Sebastian approach the Sallows front door, the first time you’d seen him here since… then. He hesitated his knock, but was met with the door opening and being greeted by the nurse he had mentioned.
“Sebastian,” you heard her say in the distance, behind the whistling of the wind. You watched as Sebastian slipped inside, leaving the door slightly ajar for you to follow.
You weren’t really sure how long you should wait, a minute or two? Maybe longer? Standing in the snow for a while, you took in the sights of the sugarcoated highlands, reminiscing on a time when things somehow seemed much simpler.
You couldn’t wait to see Anne again, you’d missed her dearly. And you certainly couldn’t wait to see the look on her face upon finding out that you and her brother were now an item. Despite your eagerness, you waited longer, not wanting to intrude on their private time despite how bitter the temperature was becoming.
As you zoned out into the views, a little voice called out to you.
“Come in, dear! You must be freezing out there!” It was the nurse, huddled behind the door.
You approached, thanking her as you reached the warmth at last. After closing the door behind you, you spotted the back of Sebastian’s head sitting at a bedside, the snowflakes still sitting in his messy locks.
“Anne!” You called out excitedly, gift in hand.
You were met with the turning of Sebastian’s head, his expression a look you’d never seen on his face before. An expression you hoped you’d never see.
And then you saw her, Anne. Or what remained of her.
The air swept out of your lungs as you approached the corpse like figure sunken in the bed before you.
She was unrecognisable, her skin a colour you couldn’t even describe, her hair the texture of wire. The Anne you knew was far gone, all that remained was the shell of a person who was too weak to even be. To even communicate. Just looking at her triggered the picture of inferi that you’d buried deep in your memory, something she now resembled more than a living human. It was utterly sickening to see somebody you once knew become… this. To know she was still suffering.
And then it hit you. You knew completely and truly why Sebastian did it all. In fact, for the first time you agreed with him.
This wasn’t about just saving him anymore, this was about Anne.
You had to do it for Anne.

FirstPrince Fic Recs!
Tumblr media
In honour of our wonderful film coming out on the 11th of August (2 days can you believe!) I've compiled some of my favourite firstprince fanfics here. Happy reading!
-
The Earth Turns by smc_27 | 10k | E |
Four unconnected AUs, one each for every season.
-
I didn't know by clottedcreamfudge | 1k | E |
Blood is rushing in Henry's ears as he makes his way back to his room. It had been incredibly stupid of him to go in there; to be so foolish as to assume that anywhere in his home was safe for him anymore.
Because Alex - brash, bold, beautiful - is not safe, and he never has been. Never will be, frankly, where Henry is part of the equation. However you combine the two of them, the results are not promising.
Those glasses though.
-
The Beginner's Guide to Floristry by clottedcreamfudge | 20k | E |
As if there's anything romantic about it; as if it's not the most humiliating death Alex can imagine. This is why he doesn't do relationships. This is why he never will. The risk, as far as he fucking sees it, is too great.
Hanahaki Disease is a fictional disease where the victim of unrequited or one-sided love begins to vomit or cough up the petals and flowers of a flowering plant growing in their lungs, which will eventually grow large enough to render breathing impossible.
-
Seven Years by LolaLand | 35k | E |
Seven different places, seven different timelines, seven different meetings, seven different Decembers.
And still, Alex and Henry find each other in every universe.
-
Camp Llwynywermod by bleedingballroomfloor | 56k | E |
The first night of camp with Henry is always weird. Weird in the sense that they haven’t seen each other in nearly eleven months, but Alex knows that Henry has been thinking about him in the months leading up to camp. Alex is guilty of it too; often the first thing he thinks of after applying to be a counselor is seeing Henry, Henry and his stupid blond hair and stupid English accent and stupidly gorgeous face, and thinking about just how he could outdo him in pranks this year.
Alternatively, the camp counselor AU that nobody asked for.
-
starry eyes sparking up my darkest night by coffeecatsme | 16k | T |
“Any time, son.”
This time, Alex knows it’s not a nickname.
Or, 5 times Arthur and Catherine act like Alex's family and 1 time they become one.
-
Abandon Ship by notcanoncompliant | 28k | E |
Alex has been blindly following his mother's word for most of his life, and she's carved him into a damn good pirate. But, something has been itching at him lately, and he needs to get off this ship to see it through. What if there’s another option for him? What if he could do something good with his life, for once?
When he recognises the, ridiculously beautiful, Prince of England on a Royal Navy vessel, he jumps at the opportunity to ransom him back to the crown and escape to find out. Because that’s what a good person does. Obviously.
-
the home that i've wanted to make by buildyourfences | 21k | E |
Alex has hated Henry since the first week of law school. When they get partnered in the civil rights appeals clinic they're forced to work together. And maybe fall in love along the way.
-
Déjame Ver Cómo Es Que Floreces by 14carrotgold | 12k | T |
Oscar gets in close and bluntly asks, “Earlier. In the bathroom. Did you do it?”
Alex scoffs, “No. Don't be a perv. Why would you wanna know that anyway?”
Oscar rolls his eyes. “Mind out of the gutter, chamaco. Did you propose?”
Ah.
Henry is introduced to the extended Diaz side of the family at their matriarch's birthday. Shenanigans (and romance and feelings) ensue.
-
thank you for loving me by demigodbeautiies | 2k | E |
The first thing he realises when colour is breathed back into the world is that his entire body is trembling.
-
Truth by cmere | 22k | E |
Alex always does this, hauls every base fucking instinct that Henry has out into the open between them, plain for both to see. And every time it happens, Henry expects him to laugh it off or give him a hard time, but instead he just encourages it with soft, pliant lips and greedy fingers until Henry gives in to himself and his desires. Alex has never made him feel bad, or odd, or disgusting, always treats him with the utmost patience and care.
Henry loves him so fucking much.
It's just past midnight on Alex's birthday and he's going to get what he wants. Which is, of course, to give Henry what he wants.
-
Never Did Run Smooth by clottedcreamfudge | 67k | E |
"You and me? Best friends. Stellar. Love that for us. But we could absolutely fake being in love. Dating. Whatever. I know literally everything about you—" (No you don't, Henry thinks firmly) "—and you know everything about me. We would absolutely fucking annihilate the other contestants.”
"You're too drunk to apply," Henry points out, like he himself isn't about as wasted as it's possible for him to be without curling up and going immediately to sleep. "I doubt you could spell your own name right on the application. Or mine."
Alex grins and pulls something up on his phone; it looks like it takes him a few tries. "Wanna fucking bet?"
Or: Henry's life is a comedy of errors; a patchwork of oopsie-daisies; a quilt stitched together with hauntingly terrible mistakes. And at the centre of it all is his best friend, Alex Claremont-Diaz; director of said comedy, threading together his oopsie-daisies into a flower crown, rolling around in the quilt of his own making, and this analogy is going to shit because Henry's so in love with him he wants to die.
-
Nova, Baby by chamel | 67k | E |
Agent Henry Fox-Mountchristen is an asshole.
Alex is 90% sure those exact words are going in this mission report. Yeah, they’re supposed to be objective when writing this shit up, but that isn’t his opinion. It’s a fact.
(CIA agent Alex Claremont-Diaz and MI6 agent Henry Fox-Mountchristen don’t exactly get along, but that doesn’t keep their respective agencies from insisting they work together as partners. Then a mission in Colombia changes everything, and their relationship begins to shift and grow into something that neither of them ever expected… and something that could have deadly consequences.)
Enjoy! Send me your recs or let me know if you liked this list! I'm heyitsafrog over on ao3 and I'm trying to comment more because I appreciate our fanfic writers so much :)

It's been 5 years seen we have been "mated", 5 years since i accepted my fate for the good, the day i stepped out of that healing tent i made a vow to never be the naïve girl that got me into this in the first place, to never depend on anyone for my protection, even if Jake gave me his word to protect and respect me but that is now in the past, the past where i locked out my old self in the darkest depth of my mind, creating walls over walls of hard exterior to prevent that once soft hearted y/n to never escape.
One day, that's all it took to change the entirety of my life, one word and everything crashed, my whole world flipped upside down I may have become cold and cruel to unsuspecting eyes but the moment i get home and see the faces of our children, their smiles makes every moment of my decision worth it, our children ,yes , even if not by blood, i made my promise to their mother that I'll treat them as my own and they were mine the moment they all were born, i had every single right to even call them mine as i was the only one parenting while Jake was too engrossed in his war plans, sometimes i don't even know if I'm wrong when i think he is forgetting his own kids, his behavior still hasn't changed a bit , his demeanor almost always a bit cold towards everyone, concealing emotions to an extent where his own kids became wary of him, even if we rarely talked i knew he was hiding everything he can until he can't, as he promised he gave me his respect and in return i acted like his perfect "mate", to the world we were a sweet overly in love joyous couple, always helping eachother out, wearing things that matched in the communal festivals all sunshine and sparkles, but the moment we entered our tent the act was over, only keeping it up when the kids are around so it doesn't cause any suspicion between them, as i said me and Jake talked occasionally this silence became a big part of our routine, some of the topics being gatherings, family dinners, raid strategies, kids health etc. Other than that there was nothing to talk about between us.
Even after years of neglect, years of protecting myself from him, that stupid and selfish side of mine fell for him, pathetic i know and i did my damn best to ignore whatever this attraction i felt towards him labeling it as a stupid crush and nothing else but look where i am now years later still pinning for the man who sees me nothing more than an acquaintance, a person who looks after his kids that's all i was to him, i closed my eyes, opening them to reread the war plan for the 10th time now, groaning i got up for a walk to silence the stream of thoughts that fixated on the man i lived with, walking out as clearly was in no state to work right now, reaching our tent i sat near the extinguished fire, staring at the blackened wood i was interrupted by tuk throwing herself on my back wrapping her arms around my neck as she exclaimed "Mommy, you're back!" I stopped , turning to her as i brought her in front of me as i spoke " tuk tuk, how many times have i told you not to call me that" as i caressed her cheek , she looked down sighing " but you are my mom now" shaking my head i knew there was no debating with her, she always got what she wanted but i still stopped her from calling me that whenever i can, even kiri called "mom" sometimes, even if that brings me joy to no extent i couldn't help but feel the guilt weigh down on my heart, i knew i could never take ney's place and i didn't even want to but i couldn't help but think that it was supposed to her who should be sitting here and the one who tuk should be calling "mom", i just gave her a smile and giving her another small indication to not call me that even if i knew she'd call mom again i let her go, turning to make today's dinner….
༻✦༺  ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
I knew we had angered eywa by going behind her back, tricking the people into believing that we have mated but in reality we both just sat down near the tree of souls in complete silence not even daring to utter a single word, i cringed inwardly at the memory as i made my way towards the weavers tents where i kept the surprise necklaces i was making for tuk and kiri, as i made my way over , i knew eywa could get angry but i didn't know she was petty as well, couples and mates were littered throughout the whole route, it's been like this everywhere i went as if eywa herself was taunting me for the decisions i have taken, ignoring everyone i got inside the tent just nodding at the people who acknowledged me not saying anything i went to my spot sitting down and working on the unfinished necklaces, i knew there were whispers and gossips about me floating through the clan but hearing them first hand was different " she has changed so much now" - " 5 years together and still no child of their own tsk tsk" - "that's what I thought maybe the Olo'eyktan isn't satisfied enough by her-" - "how can he be? He was mated to neytiri, she is nothing compared to her" every word uttered from their mouths digged deep into my skin, temper shoots through my mind all those pent up emotion resurfacing but i dampened as i got up walking over to those women and gritted out "if you want to talk bad about me please do it right in front of my face not behind my back, I'll come to you as I'm all ears for your criticism when I'm done with my work because i have a life to live unlike yourselfs" their faces were palling rapidly as they weren't aware of my presence before i made it known to them, i stormed off to angry at myself for letting my temper take the best of me, i speed walked to my spot at the lake, as i sat down , the necklaces still in my fist while i stared at the water that ripped with the breeze, Eywa i shouldn't have done that, scolding myself mentally i let myself calm down, this is gonna end up rough ,i thought sighing…..
༻✦༺  ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
I got back home just wanting to eat something and go to sleep, as i walked inn to give tuk and kiri their necklaces but to my surprise the whole tent was empty, worry gripped me as i turned around to go look was them, it's been 2 hours past eclipse by now everyone should be home, but i was stopped in my track as the last person i wanted to see on the entirety of Pandora stood in front of me , Jake walked towards me as i started "Jake where are th-" but me cut me " they are with mo'at for tonight, they wanted to spend the night there" i let out the breath i was holding
Turning around once again I went towards the fireplace but Jake's voice rang out stopping me " why did you do that?" I know what he's talking about but how did it spread so quickly? " I lost my temper and I don't want to talk about it," I said curtly, continuing my way to the fireplace as I sat down. " You yell at a clan member and you don't wanna talk about it? How's that gonna work?, Huh!" I just ignored him not having the energy to talk any longer but he didn't stop as he yelled " Talk to me!" And for the second time today I lost my battle to contain my anger down " You wanna talk? Then let's fucking talk Jake, tell me what the fuck do you want me to do? Huh! What in the name of eywa should i have done? I had to protect my honor because I don't have that person to do it for me! Okay? I lost my temper because I don't have anyone to just LISTEN TO mE!" He was taken aback a little by my outburst, i have never in my life yelled at someone, in raids yes but not like this, he recovered quickly a dark look replacing it " you knew what you're getting into all those years ago, i made myself cl-" , " i fucking know that Jake, i know why i took that decision because i made a promise to neytiri and it was her last wish to me to not break it, i won't let her down like that" my voice got smaller with each word " just stop okay? I don't have to energy to fight right now please just leave me alone Jake " with that i walked out , not wanting him to see the pathetic sight of me crying, i didn't know where i was going i just walked and walked till my legs got tired and i couldn't think straight as i sat down on a branch as i let everything out, once again all alone deep inside the forest so no one has to give me that unwanted sympathy…
It's been a few days after my fight with Jake and to be honest it's been a lot awkward sleeping in one hammock as the kids still didn't know about the fight, at first we slept differently but the kids got suspicious so we opted for one hammock with our backs turned to each other as tuk laid beside me because 'she can't sleep when I'm not with her', they have also picked up on the tension between us but no one said anything, today we had another raid, neteyam and lo'ak were meant to be spotters but lo'ak got on the war ground where i was covering for other warriors when i saw them, before i could even get to them the blast happen, neteyam was hit badly, lo'ak was dazed but i picked him up as i saw Jake picking up neteyam as we ran to our ikrans, ushering lo'ak on his, i got onto mine…..
I stood a little behind neteyam as Jake scolded both of them " I let you two geniuses fly and you disobey direct orders!? You two were supposed to be spotters not down there on the ground!" He yells and i knew i had to step in as blood dripped down neteyam's wound " enough Jake" he looked at me with a pointed glare but i didn't waver as i said " your son is bleeding" just as pointedly to get my message across, " ma, I'm fine, I'm okay" but i didn't hear any further, sparing one last glance at Jake i took neteyam to the healing tent, quietly giving him a piece of my mind as well while we walked, dropping him at the tent, i just watched from outside, i knew it wasn't his fault, lo'ak have always wanted his father's approval more than anything but his ways to approach it drove Jake even more insane, i sat down besides Jake while he cleaned his gun, as i said " you need to be more gentle on them, they are your kids not your soldiers'' he glared at me once again but this time it was a bit different, something softer in his eyes " you don't have to tell me how to raise my kids" i exhaled through me nose, hissing at him " you're hurting them Jake, can't you see? He looks up to you, he looks for your approval and all you do is shove him away!" This was the most civil conversation we had in a while, his eyes glassed over, a shadow coming over his face as he finally looked at me, my heart sunk at his next words " i thought i lost them y/n" i pressed my lips into a thin line as i dared to put a hand on his giving him a knowing nod, sighing i stood to, walking to our tent to clean up and make something for us to eat.
༻✦༺  ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
~ Jake POV ~
All i could think about was her outburst, the way she screamed at me, god i wanted to hug and never leave her side but things were way easier said than done, i knew i liked her and i also knew that she didn't reciprocate it, she couldn't! So i kept my act up of being a total asshole to her, but i knew i fucked up good when i forced her to talk, pushing the buttons a little to far and then being stupid enough to be shocked as she snapped, i regret yelling at her but i didn't know what got into me in that moment, now this fiasco with neteyam and lo'ak, her confronting me with how they really felt about me, it just hung in silence inside my mind, i knew i was being hard on them but i had too, there is a war going on out there if don't teach them now then it would be too late to teach later…
I really try to talk to her but i chicken out everytime, i know even after being a clan's leader , their toruk makto I'm still afraid to confess to the women who literally lives with me and has been living with me for 5 years, we sleep in same hammock for god's sake and i still back out at the last moment, it's always the same story, i build up my courage picking up the newest creation i made for her almost walking up to her then letting my thoughts take over , what if she doesn't like this? What if she doesn't feel the same way? She's younger than me, definitely wouldn't want someone as old as me at all, and i would back out, now i have dozens of necklaces, armbands , earing, beads, tops and what not piled in a corner of our tent were no one is allowed to go, i can lead hundreds of warriors in one command but this? This was definitely not my cup of tea, even winning neytiri was not this hard. I have to make a move soon because I can see my time is running out but I don't know how….
༻✦༺  ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
~ Y/n POV ~
Flying besides Jake as neteyam was right behind us as we petroled our borders, it was nice to finally fly for a while without so much stress, it was still there but a lot less, syaksyuk clung around chirping and hooting now and then, all in all it was peaceful….until i heard lo'ak voice calling out through the coms, his voice was hushed and i knew right away something was wrong i glanced at Jake as he was already looking at me when lo'ak spoke "devil dog, this is eagle eye, we are near the abandoned shack and there are 6-7 Navi but they are not one of us, dreamwalkers maybe, they are armed with ARs'' before Jake could respond i said " who are "we"?" There was a moment of silence before he spoke "me, kiri, spider…and tuk" and my heart dropped to my stomach as Jake instantly ordered him to fall back and to move out without a sound, neteyam hearing all of it as he said "sir, here i have short cut" and we both turned to follow him.
It was getting dark as we got their, they were captured, my heart was beating a mile per second, my mind only coming up with different ways to get them all out, it had started to rain as well so we had to fast, taking a deep breath i let out a chirping sound to notify them of our arrival, i situated myself on top of a branch as knocking in my arrow as i trained it on the soldier holding kiri, i looked down seeing Jake as he nodded and i let of my arrow, that's when all hell broke loose, jumping down i took down the two demons in front of me, taking hold of kiri and tuk i pulled them ahead of me, pushing them towards our ikrans, i stood back to a tree when i heard his voice " ahh, mrs. Sully, long time no see, looks like you were very busy looking at that litter of yours, why don't you come down here huh? Have a little chat, it's been a while after you killed me" i let out a hiss, he thinks he's talking to neytiri but i couldn't help myself as i said " I'll kill you a hundred times if i have to , demon" right as i said it i heard a crunch behind me as i whipped my head to look but a spray of blood hit my face as i saw Jake with his axe in the shooter's neck him long dead, as i twisted knocking my arrows one last time as i shot the two soldiers beneath me and i ran with Jake towards our mounts, i pulled kiri into me, as she sobbed in my neck, Jake's checked on lo'ak as i pulled in tuk as well, kiri sobbed for spider as he was taken, i silently sent a prayer to eywa to keep the boy safe, as we all mounted the ikrans, lo'ak with neteyam, kiri with Jake and tuk with me, tuk was shocked by all this as she clung to me , wrapping her arms around my neck as i kept her close to me, no one said a word all throughout the journey home…..
" We have to leave, there is no other way" Jake said as I stared at him, I knew he was back but this? Leaving the only home I've ever had? Leaving EVERYTHING I ever had behind? He had to be joking, "kehe, no, do you even understand what you're saying?" He just lets out an exaggerated sigh " i know what I'm talking about y/n, he is BACK, but now not only for me but my family as well, he will come here and destroy everything we have made all over again" and i just stood there " you can't ask me for this Jake, this is going too far now, i can't-" "Don't you understand? He will not stop till he gets to me, listen to me , we have to get out of here as soon as possible" and what i said next left him flabbergasted "NO! i will not leave my home in fear of him , we'll fight like we did last time, i will not leave, if you want to go you can, we have no bond stopping you, we had nothing to even begin with…..this is my home and I'll stand with it." He stared at me shocked, like he never expected me to say no but here I was doing just that! A new kind of determination came over his looks, i thought he was gonna turn around and storm out but what he did next left me speechless as he propelled forward connect his lips with mine, my eyes widen but i didn't break it, he slowly pulled back and said " i need you y/n, I've always needed you, you grounded me , you are my support, if it weren't for you i would have gone insane years ago, i need you by my side, i should have said this way earlier but now i can't lose you, please , you're all I've got, i can't do this without you, I've- I've loved you for years y/n but i was too afraid to say anything, please just think about this, we have to get out of here before he has a chance to get to us" i didn't have any words as he still held me in his arms, my heart beating so fast that i think it'll burst out of my chest, my fingers were shaking at their spot on his forearms as i stared at him, he tilted his head , his tail wrapping around my thigh, everything felt unreal, like time froze, tears lined my eyes while i fell to my knees…
He engulfed me in a hug as tears and sobs wrecked my body, years of pent up emotions coming out, he held me rubbing my back, supporting me,as i stopped pulling out and started hitting his chest and arms with whatever strength i had left in me, he took it all in as he just smiled, hugging me again he spoke " I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry for letting you go through all this alone, i see you, i really do, i know i should have been there through every step but i let my thoughts get in between, it's okay if you don't lik-" i shut him up as i kissed this time but pulled back just as quickly, getting up and away as a confused Jake Sully still sat on the floor, he frowned his eyebrows joining together but i simply pick up my bow and i said " a simple apology won't fix everything sully, you have to earn it" my back was to him so i didn't see him come up behind me as he puts his big hands on my hips turning me around looking at me with love sick eyes, keeping my bow down i put my hands on his chest , he gave the smirk i haven't seen in years, and pushed him back , letting out a sigh i said " I see you too Jake, and just like you i kept silent for years but you can't expect me to do this, this my home, my life! everything I've ever known, we haven't even made tsaheylu yet, and i respect your choice but i can't do this" he silently put his forehead against mine and i closed my eyes as he began " i know i said i won't make tsaheylu with you but all these years together, i have changed, really, you changed me and that too for good, i wasn't in a good state of mind back then but now i know" i opened my eyes to the silence but gasped as i saw Jake his queue in front of me, pulling my forehead back from his as i looked at him in the eyes " Jake are you really sure about this? I don't want to do it if it's only for the sake of all this!" But he just shook his head " No, ma' yawnetu, i mean it, i see you and i want to prove it, that is if you give me a chance too" i knew the water works were coming as i brought my queue in front of me, i looked at him seriously and he just nodded connecting our queues, it was a feeling I've never felt before, closing my eyes as it washed over me in waves, it was everything but nothing at once, i felt him and his love for me, his heart beat, his breath, his thoughts everything, fluttering my eyes open i looked at him again as he smiled down at me, i felt complete, he hugged me once again and i melted in it, pulling him as close as i can , sighing i let go, " c'mon we don't have all day, we have to move fast, I don't want that demon anywhere near my children" i walked away giving him a smile over my shoulder as i picked up my bow and went outside to tell the kids about the plans but found them huddled up against the side of our tent, ears pressed attentively, my guess is they were secretly listening instead of being with mo'at and they haven't heard me come out and i was right as i heard tuk say " why aren't they talking? Is mom crying again?" I came up behind them and coughed , all of them tensed up as they slowly turned their heads as i glared at them head tilted and neteyam started " I'm sorry ma, it's my fault-" "enough, everybody inside right now as i assume you've heard everything, we need to discuss and pack up". I know this is gonna be hard for them as it's for me but we have to, it's for everyone's safety, sighing i lead them all inn…..
༻✦༺  ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
I was lying besides Jake, as the kids were with mo'at spending their last night with their grandmother and giving an excuse for our privacy too, my head on his chest as we both stayed silent enjoying for once together, i chuckled as i thought about just yesterday when we slept with our backs against each other absolutely refusing to look and now i am lying almost on top of him, he looked at me confused as of why i was laughing, i just looked up and did the first that came to my mind, kissing him right on the lips as he reciprocated and deepening it, his hands moving to hips and waist, roaming up my chest as my own tangled in his hair, he licked my bottom lip and every wall i ever made tore down one by one, letting him inn as his tongue immediately dominated mine and i gladly caved in , breaking the kiss as he smirked at me, the question evident in his eyes and i nodded and that's all the confirmation he needed as he took over, as for tonight? I'll be busy but a different kind of busy……..

18 Afrofantasy Worlds to Read after you watch Wakanda Forever
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I see you guys love these lists and, hey, I’m not going to complain, I love looking at these sets of beautiful cover art. This theme is... Afro Fantasy Worlds! ♥♥ From alt-Cairo to alt-Johannesburg and many magical worlds in between, I’ve chosen 18 books full of African magic.
Add your favorites in the comments, too! I only ended up with two male MCs... that’s sadly a shortcoming in YA fantasy in general, although not every book here is YA.
Support my blog and read at the same time when you buy from the linked titles below, which go to Bookshop.org (where you support small bookshops, too!) Or get a free trial at Scribd for ebooks & audiobooks.
Beasts of Prey by Ayana Gray Fate binds two Black teenagers from different social classes together  as they strike a dangerous alliance to enter a magical jungle and hunt down the ancient creature menacing their home--and discover much more than they bargained for.
Daughters of Nri by Reni K. Amayo A gruesome war results in the old gods' departure from earth. The only remnants of their existence lie in two girls. Twins, separated at birth. Goddesses who grow up believing that they are human. Their epic journey of self-discovery as they embark on a path back to one another.
Everfair by Nisi Shawl A steampunk alternate-history novel set in the Belgian Congo. What if the African natives developed steam power ahead of their colonial oppressors? This land, named Everfair, is set aside as a safe haven, an imaginary Utopia for native populations of the Congo as well as escaped slaves returning from America and other places where African natives were being mistreated.
The Final Strife by Saara El-Arifi A fantasy trilogy with its roots in the mythology of Africa and Arabia, three women band together against a cruel empire where castes are divided by the color of one's blood.
A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark A young magical detective in 1912 Cairo must investigate the murders of a secret brotherhood dedicated to one of the most famous men in history, al-Jahiz, when the murderer claims to be al-Jahiz himself returned to condemn the modern age for its social oppressions
Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko Tarisai was raised in isolation by a mysterious, often absent mother known only as The Lady. The Lady sends her to compete to be chosen as one of the Crown Prince's Council of 11. If she's picked, she'll be joined with the other Council members through the Ray, a bond deeper than blood. That closeness is irresistible to Tarisai, who has always wanted to belong somewhere. But The Lady has other ideas, including a magical wish that Tarisai is compelled to obey: Kill the Crown Prince once she gains his trust.
Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron Heir to two lines of powerful witchdoctors, Arrah yearns for magic of her own. Under the disapproving eye of her mother, the Kingdom's most powerful priestess and seer, she fears she may never be good enough. But when the Kingdom's children begin to disappear, Arrah is desperate enough to turn to a forbidden, dangerous ritual.
Son of the Storm by Suyi Davies Okungbowa Danso is a clever scholar on the cusp of achieving greatness--except he doesn't want it. Instead, he prefers to chase forbidden stories about what lies outside the city walls. But when Danso stumbles across a warrior wielding magic that shouldn't exist, he's put on a collision course with Bassa's darkest secrets. Drawn into the city's hidden history, he sets out on a journey beyond its borders.
The Theft of Sunlight by Intisar Khanani Children have been disappearing from across Menaiya for longer than Amraeya ni Ansarim can remember. When her friend's sister is snatched, Rae knows she can't look away any longer. She finds unexpected support from a foreign princess and a street thief with secrets of his own.
Blood Scion by Deborah Falayei They wanted me to be a monster. I will be the worst monster they ever created. Fifteen-year-old Sloane can incinerate an enemy at will--she is a Scion, a descendant of the ancient Orisha gods. When she is forcibly conscripted into the Lucis army, Sloane sees a new opportunity: to overcome the bloody challenges of Lucis training, and destroy them from within.
Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen Simi prayed to the gods, once. Now she serves them as Mami Wata--a mermaid--collecting the souls of those who die at sea and blessing their journeys back home. But when a living boy is thrown overboard, Simi goes against an ancient decree and does the unthinkable--she saves his life. And punishment awaits those who dare to defy the gods.
The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna On the day of the blood ceremony of her village, Deka's blood runs gold, the color of impurity-and Deka knows she will face a consequence worse than death. Then a mysterious woman comes to her with a choice: stay in the village and submit to her fate, or leave to fight for the emperor in an army of girls just like her. They are called alaki-near-immortals with rare gifts. And they are the only ones who can stop the empire's greatest threat.
Zoo City by Lauren Beukes Set in a world where murderers and other criminals acquire magical animals that are mystically bonded to them. Zinzi has a Sloth on her back, a dirty 419 scam habit, and a talent for finding lost things. When a little old lady turns up dead and the cops confiscate her last paycheck, Zinzi's forced to take on her least favorite kind of job -- missing persons.
Noor by Nnedi Okorafor In a near-future Nigeria. Anwuli Okwudili prefers to be called AO, Artificial Organism. Instead of viewing her strange body the way the world views it, as freakish, unnatural, even the work of the devil, AO embraces all that she is: A woman with a ton of major and necessary body augmentations. And then one day she goes to her local market and everything goes wrong.
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope. Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
A River of Royal Blood by Amanda Joy Sixteen-year-old Eva is a princess, born with the magick of marrow and blood--a dark and terrible magick that hasn't been seen for generations in the vibrant but fractured country of Myre. Its last known practitioner was Queen Raina, who toppled the native khimaer royalty and massacred thousands, including her own sister, eight generations ago. Eva must now face her older sister, Isa, in a battle to the death if she hopes to ascend to the Ivory Throne.
Changa’s Safari by Milton Davis In the 15th century on the African Continent a young prince flees his homeland of Kongo, vowing to seek revenge for the murder of his father and the enslavement of his family and his people. He triumphs over the slavery and the fighting pits of Mogadishu to become a legendary fighter and respected merchant.
Waking Fire by Jean Louise Naira Khoum has only known life in Lagusa, a quiet village at the desert’s end. But to the rest of the world, Lagusa is a myth, its location shrouded in secrecy. While war rages to the north led by power-hungry Sothpike and his army of undead monsters called Dambi, Naira’s people live in peace. Until the impossible happens—Lagusa is attacked by a Mistress sent to do Sothpike’s bidding with a hoard of Dambi under her control.
Bonus: Daughters of Oduma by Moses Ose Utomi An elite female fighter must reenter the competition to protect her found family of younger sisters in this scintillating young adult fantasy inspired by West African culture.

Azriel x Reader | Renewal Chapter 6
Azriel x female reader
Alright here's where things really stray from cannon (like its not already a fanfic lmao) but I'm really happy with how this turned out. Hope y'all like it!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was sunny the day your mother died. Looking back, you always thought that was odd. Something so evil should've been done under the veil of rain. It should’ve happened at midnight, when the shadows were thickest and the darkest of beings emerged from their slumber. Real life wasn’t like that though. Pain and evil were always there, and even the shadows couldn’t hide an evil this great.
 Maybe that’s why the darkness and shadows always felt welcoming to you. If something so awful, so life-changing could happen during the brightest of day, nothing that bad could happen in the shadows.
You were in the sitting room when they came. Your mom was cleaning up dinner, fresh fish with rice and vegetables from the backyard garden. She was going to take you flying before it got dark. You were still unused to the cold air of the mountains. The icy nip of the wind against your wings was unfamiliar despite your Illyrian heritage. Mother had insisted you not come to the mountains until you were old enough to defend yourself. She knew firsthand the cruel way females were treated in the war camps, and even though she wanted you to know your heritage and your people, your safety was her top priority.
You knew your brother had spent a lot of time here, against your mother’s wishes. Father wanted him to be strong, resilient, hardened to the sight of blood and violence and fear. Rhys was the heir, he needed to be trained and shown how the world worked, his whole childhood was a brutal training for the title he would one day hold.
You, on the other hand, were extremely sheltered. Something snapped in the High Lord when he had a daughter. He wasn’t a particularly caring man, but seeing his daughter, winged and small, so similar to his mate, had changed something in him. He thought of himself as a protector. He’d saved his mate from ridicule and mauling by her Illyrian family, and now he could save you. He forbade you from meeting anyone but your family and you certainly weren’t allowed around Illyrians, save your mother and brother. You never met your brother’s friends, “the bastards” as father called them, but Rhys would sneak into your room late at night and tell you stories.
That’s why you were so shocked then, seeing who could only be the Spring lord and his sons, making their way up the pathway to your mother’s home.
“Mama!” you called from the window, “Visitors are coming!” Your mother walked up behind you to look out the glass, wings pulled in tight as she dried her hands on a dish towel.
Her brows furrowed in confusion at the sight of the spring males. You’d heard Rhys speak of the younger son, Tamlin. You thought he must be a friend. Maybe the males thought your brother was with you?
Your mother shooed you from the window and you went and stood by the fire, dreading the blast of cold air that would permeate the cottage when the door was opened.
“My Lord,” your mother began, opening the door just wide enough that she could see the three males approach. “ We weren’t expecting you this evening. I’m afraid my husband and son are at our home in the city. It’s just my daughter and I here.”
“Good,” you heard a male voice say, as he pushed his way past your mother and into the home.
Your mother stumbled back, grabbing your arms and placing you behind her, wings flaring wide to shield you from view. Something in the air had shifted, the cozy warmth of the cottage  now feeling stifling, confining.
The male, the High Lord you assumed, sat down on the couch, spreading his legs and grinning like he owned the place. His sons stood stoically behind him, flanking him like guards.
“Now let’s not make this harder than it needs to be,” He began, motioning your mother towards the chairs by the fire. She stiffened, her grip on your arm tightening.
The High Lord let out a sigh, as if this whole interaction annoyed him, and with a wave of his hand, wind picked up, pushing your mother to her knees. You saw her grit her teeth, unable to move against the winds that bound her.
The male gave you a dark smile, “Now there’s the pretty little daughter, Y/N, isn’t it?” Your eyes flickered to the males behind him, the two on the right almost identical to their father, the same muddy blonde hair and light eyes, eyes filled with anticipation. Tamlin, though, looked almost uneasy. He was trying hard to mask it, but you could feel the grayish blue of it flicker in your senses, seeping from his mental shield.
“Have a seat, girl, before I make you.” He snapped, clearly losing patience with the situation, the hate in his expression shining through.
The older male’s eyes bore into you as you slowly lowered yourself into the chair closest to your mother. Something was wrong here, very wrong.
“You’re likely wondering why we’re here.” The High Lord began, drawing a dagger from his belt and staring into the gleaming reflection, the light of the fire glinted off it in the late afternoon sun.
“You see, your mate,” he pointed the knife at mother, “and your father,” he pointed the knife at you, “owe me a debt.” He smiled as you felt the color drain from your face. The human slaves… father had set them free, and now you and your mother were to pay the price.
“Now the only choice left for me to make, is whether to kill you or your mother first.” He looked hungrily at your mother’s wings, an Illyrian female with perfectly intact wings was rare. Your stomach churned as you wondered what he’d do with them, and you were suddenly glad yours were no longer visible, magicked away for now.
“Wait…” a choked sound came from your mother as she fought against her bonds to speak, “a deal…” Your eyes widened, head swinging toward your mother, she couldn’t possibly mean to negotiate with this horrible male.
“Interesting….” the High Lord began, “what did you have in mind?” He lifted his magic and your mother gasped in air, shakily moving to her feet beside you.
“Kill me.”
You choked out a cry, “Mama, no…”
She laid a comforting hand on your shoulder, a warning not to interfere. “Kill me, torture me, do what you will with my body, allow me to pay the debt for my mate’s mistakes, but let my daughter go free. Banish her, send her to another court, but leave her be.” your mother cast her eyes downward, clearly hating how she had to lower herself before this male.”Please.”
The blonde male’s head twitched to the side in consideration,
“You’ll comply with whatever we ask of you?”
“As long as I don't hurt anyone else, and my daughter goes free.”
You swallowed down your tears, now was not the time for emotion, the room was filled with a tense energy, like one subtle move could shatter it and everything would erupt into chaos.
“You have a deal.” The High Lord smiled, his eyes gleaming with delight as you watched a bargain mark spread across your mother’s arm. A rose, something so beautiful, for a deal so evil.
“No!” you shouted, standing from your seat and wrapping your arms around her.
“Bring in the witch.” One of the older sons left out the door, slamming it behind him.
“Shhh,” your mother ran her hands down your hair in soothing motions, “You’re safe, you’ll be okay.”
“But Mama,”
“No.” She said sternly, drawing back to look into your eyes, her hands planted firmly on your cheeks. “There will be time for grief later, but now you must be strong.” She placed a kiss on your head and turned as the door opened again.
The spring male came in, pulling along a female who must’ve been the witch. She was short, with white-gray hair cut close to her head, her brown skin wrinkled from years of life and sun. She looked at you with pity in her eyes. You felt the regret coming off her, stark blue, and crisp like the sea, she was dragged into this, same as you.
“We originally brought her to heal you.” He looked at you, still wrapped in your mother’s embrace, “So we could break you again, of course. According to our source you aren’t due back for another two days, so we have plenty of time to have fun.” Your blood ran cold. They would torture your mother for days.
You looked again at the witch, she took a deep breath, eyes closed in pain. Fae often propositioned witches to do their dirty work, the fae healers took an oath to the realm, rendering them useless in morally dark situations such as this. That didn’t mean the witches enjoyed it though, they’d been prosecuted their entire existence, this was just another way for those more powerful than them to exploit their abilities.
“How far away can you send her?” The High Lord asked, lazily flipping his dagger from where he sat, still comfortably sprawled on your mother’s couch. The witch didn’t answer. She only held your gaze, dark eyes blazing with determination.
The High Lord gave a sigh, and quick as lightning, the younger male’s hand shot out, connecting brutally with the witch’s face.
She fell to her knees, blood dripping from her shattered nose, you felt her pain hit you, red and throbbing, and you closed your eyes tightly against it.
Finally, the Spring Lord rose from his seat, boots stopping just in front of the puddle of blood rushing from the witch’s bruised face.
“You and I both know, I can make this harder than it needs to be. Just do what I ask, and you’ll be free to go.” He looked down on her like he was scolding a child, impatient and stern.
The witch lifted her head, her eyes once again connecting with yours, the blue stream of pity overwhelming the pain that still lingered. “I can send her as far as another realm.” She spoke quietly, resigned to both of your fates.
“Perfect.” The High Lord grinned, turning to look at you.
“No!” you screamed clinging to your mother. One of the sons came forward, prying you from her warm embrace. Her tears were flowing freely now, but her face was calm, yielding to the fate that played out before her. She may have accepted what was coming, but you could not. You bucked in the male’s arms, bashing your head into his nose and stomping down on his foot. You ran towards the door but were caught around the middle by the unyielding arms of the High Lord. He threw you to the ground, the bones in your arm cracking upon impact. You yelled, crawling across the floor toward your mother. She was restrained again, face in agony as her body was contorted back, using all her strength to mouth the words “I love you.”
The witch’s bloodied face appeared above yours, “I’m so sorry.” she whispered, and everything went black.
It was dark now. Late into the night, the shadows crept into the library as you stared into the empty hearth and showed your brother everything.
Your brother. It was so odd to see him again, after all these years. He looked so similar to you, to your mother. Same dark hair, same violet eyes, same tremble to his jaw as he tried to hold back his tears. You had warned him when he asked to see your memories of that day how painful it would be, but nothing could’ve prepared him to see that, or you to relive the worst day of your existence.
Rhys let out a choked sob, hand coming to his mouth as tears flowed down his face. “I am so, so sorry, Y/N.”
You shook your head as your own tears began anew, “No, Rhys, No. None of this is your fault, neither of us could’ve prevented what happened that day.”
Your brother looked at you, sadness and pain radiating off him in waves of gray, mixing with your own tumultuous emotions. “I, I should’ve known what had happened, I should’ve looked harder for you, not just assumed you were dead,” He stood, knocking over the chair in anger, “I should’ve recognized my own damn sister when she showed up in my court.” He sent a blast of power at the chair, reducing it to shards of wood and fabric in an instant.
“Stop.” you stood, walking to him, your hands going up to cup his tear stained face. He looked so different from the composed High Lord you’d seen earlier that day. He was rumpled, disheveled in a way that seemed so at odds with who he was. His hair stuck up at odd angles from pulling it in distress.
“I was sent to another realm, glamoured for centuries by a powerful witch, I didn’t even know who I was.” Rhys closed his eyes, resting his head on your shoulder.
“It just seems so obvious now that it was you all along.”
You stroked his hair, comforting him the way mother used to, “It’s okay, you’re the reason I’m back to myself. And now I’m here and I’m not going to leave again.”
—DIFFICULT THINGS
jamie tartt x lasso!reader
ONE. TOWNIE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: lucy moves to richmond with a memory that doesn’t quite forget what her dad did to her. however, ted is as happy as a goldfish.
warnings: cursing, unlikeable female protagonist, father issues, abandonment issues, resentment
a/n: welcome to this very new series i WILL finish. my love for this show has overtaken my time and i am very excited to be writing this. this chapter is set during “two aces.”
——————
Leonard Cohen once said, “There’s a crack in everything; that’s how the light gets in.” But my world has been infused with the darkest of shadows. Everywhere I search is covered by a dark spot. It seeps into my life from my dreams, nightmares, and memories. I don’t think I was delivered by the hand of God, nor will I be expecting any blessing in the near future. It’s the hope that kills you.
I had that epiphany when I turned seven. No one had ever seen a child so jaded, so self-aware. When I learned that the father I wished for wasn’t that interested in fully being in my life, I accepted it entirely, for what it was worth. He’s popped in and out, coming in as quickly as he leaves, only sticking around for moments he deemed essential to me.
And the worse part is that he’s a good man—a good man with a daughter who felt evil.
I used to wish something terrible would happen to me. A broken collarbone. A car accident. Cancer. If something like that happened to me, I thought he’d return and stay for good.
But those things never happened. I’ve never broken any bones. I’ve never crashed my car into a tree. I’m perfectly healthy. And after all this time, Dad has moved on.
I have a half-brother. Thirteen or fourteen years my junior, it’s disgusting how I’m not too sure about the gap. I’ve never met him, nor do I want to meet him. I envy a child who cannot understand the weight of the word ‘father’ because he’ll always take it for granted.
When I crawl through my memories, I can see Dad crystal clear. He showed up to every one of my birthdays until age sixteen. That’s probably because my brother was old enough to ask and understand why Dad was leaving him. Dad came to my first dance, a father-daughter dance. It was one of the nights I honestly felt pretty. He and I danced the night away, stuffing our faces with candy and desserts and drinking our weight’s worth of soda pop. Dad taught me how to ride a bike. Although it ended with scraping my knees, he helped me up, cleaned my knees, and kissed each one. Dad drove me to my first day of high school. The morning went by quickly, but I can still remember the smile on his face as I waved goodbye to him and walked through the school doors.
I want to be thankful for what I’ve gotten from my dad. But he could have done so much more. Am I not worth the effort?
And it hurts to hate my mother as much as I do.
She could clean up her act for Dad, but once he was on his way home, she’d finally ease into consciousness. We would fight. She’d accuse me of not appreciating her. She’d belittle me and never congratulated me on my accomplishments. She’s manipulative. Controlling. Narcissistic. Evil. I know I’m no good, either. But women like that love confrontation. And she got the best of me every single time.
But I’m a grown woman now. I’m twenty. I have a life. A freedom I’ve never known. I’m trying to be honest, to prove I am everything Mom never thought I’d be. I’m trying to make Dad proud of me. Because everyone else is sure as hell proud of him, he’s Ted Lasso: a simple man with a simple plan who was pulled to spread his kindness in Richmond, England, by coaching their god-awful team. I watched the news with a frown as soon as they announced his new endeavor. If he got a new beginning, why can’t I?
And that’s why I decided to pack up my things and move to England.
I’ve been here before. My mother and I moved around due to her line of work. Whether it was Shanghai, Princeton, Kuala Lumpur, or Rome, I could never call those places home. I feel like Richmond is going to be different. I’m not hopeful. Just curious.
——
The park seems comforting. There appears to be a rhythm that compliments the people. Kids playing soccer, and shops opening for the day.
I sit and watch the world awaken. People pass me by as I sit on the bench, not one of them stopping their routine for me, except one.
lHis greetings were met with responses of “Wanker,” a word I found oddly endearing. He continued down the park trail, saying ‘good morning’ to me mindlessly.
I replied with a deadpan “Wanker,” which surprised him, given my American accent. He turned back, his eyes lighting up in recognition.
“Oh, my lordy-lord,” he muttered, smiling as he said my name, “Lucy.” He looks at me as if I’m a fucking unicorn. His eyes soften, and the smile that always reaches his eyes is suddenly on his face. “ Lucy !” he breathes out as if he’s too scared to say it louder like I’ll run away and leave.
“Hi, Dad.” He pulls me from my seat on the bench and envelops me into the biggest bear hug I’ve ever gotten from him. And those hugs are grizzly and unrelenting.
He lifts me off my feet and holds my head to his shoulder. “Oh, how I love you, Lucy girl. I can’t believe it!”
I groan, feeling slightly embarrassed. "Dad, please put me down. I'm not as tiny as Henry is," I say with a laugh. He puts me down with a smile, but there’s a flash of a solemn look on his face. I guess my mention of Henry has filled him with some semblance of guilt. I can’t tell if that satisfies me or not. "I think you're wondering why I'm here," I say, the false smile still on my face. "And the only reason is because I wanted to see you, Dad. I missed you," I add, trying to perfect the role of the doting daughter, even though it doesn't come naturally.
“Oh, I missed you too, Pumpkin. I’m glad you’re here.” He spots my luggage standing against the bench. “Looks like you’re gonna be visiting for a while, huh?”
I nod slowly, my gaze briefly shifting away. "Yeah, I am. Needed a change of scenery for a while," I admit, hoping he won't probe further into my true reasons for being here.
Dad nods, but I spot him scanning my face for any information I won’t outwardly tell him. Perhaps it’s a parently instinct, or maybe it’s just a Ted Lasso thing. The smile on my face doesn’t falter.
“So, how’s your mom?”
The question hangs in the air, and I can sense the curiosity in his eyes. I clench my jaw and roll my eyes in annoyance. "I really don't want to talk about her right now," I say firmly, hoping to steer the conversation away from a topic I'd rather avoid.
Dad gives me one of those fatherly smiles, understanding my need for privacy but also indicating he'll inquire about it later. "Alright then. How about we get you settled into my place? Don't care if you've found one already. I got you here with me, and you're not going anywhere, missy. I hope that's alright with you," he adds, his face hopeful as he waits for my response.
I acquiesce to his requests. It’s the least I can do. “Sure, Dad. I’d love to.”
He cheers with a fist pump, then wrangles me into yet another bear hug before I tell him he’s crushing my ribs, and he dramatically lets me go with a pout on his face.
I follow him down the streets to his apartment door. We enter, and it’s pretty lovely, yet it feels so hollow. There’s an opened jar of peanut butter on the island. I can tell he radiates joy as we unpack my things into an extra bedroom. I wonder how lonely he’s been without his son and wife.
Yeah. This is the least I can do.
——
After unpacking and settling in, Dad practically begs me to come to Nelson Road with him, and since I’m already feeling a bit guilty, I come along with him.
Upon entering, some guy with a full beard and eyebrows that make him look perpetually constipated looks at me. Well, it’s more of a glare. He walks up to Dad and me, not once taking his eyes off me. I narrow my eyes in response, shooting him a cold glare of my own. “Who the fuck is this? Don’t tell me Rebecca hired another fucking American.” His voice is deep and rumbling and full of snark.
"Seriously, do all British guys walk around with a stick up their ass?" I quip, but my remark falls on deaf ears. I catch the man clenching his jaw at my question. Ah, it seems he doesn't take kindly to being disrespected. One jab at his masculinity, and he's ready to go to war without a second thought.
"Roy Kent, meet my daughter, Lucille," Dad introduces, but I quickly interject, "Lucy to you." I emphasize my preference, not one to stand on formality. "Who the fuck are you, Roy Kent?" I ask, gauging his reaction as he looks between me and my dad, clearly trying to figure something out. I decide to clear the air, "Yeah, my mom isn't Michelle," I clarify, hoping to put any confusion to rest.
Roy's response is a simple "Oh," followed by a grunt as he exits the scene. My dad remains unfazed and carries on, guiding me towards the locker room with his arm casually draped around my shoulder.
"Coach Beard! We've got a new cast member!" Dad announces to the room as we walk out together, seemingly excited to introduce me to his colleagues.
A man with a book and a golf hat turns his chair around and observes us. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t the fussbudget,” he says. “Hello, Lucy. I’m Coach Beard. I’ve heard all about you.”
I can't help but snort at the situation. "That's impossible," I retort with a snarky tone. Coach Beard finds my reaction amusing, letting out a chuckle, while my dad gives a slight frown, but I know a few jabs won't easily rattle him.
Suddenly, a strong voice breaks the chatter, announcing, "Ayo, the gaffer's got another kid!" The rest of the men turn their attention to me, their eyes filled with wonder and intrigue. They excitedly chat, asking if they saw what they think they did.
Exiting the office, we step into the open room where my dad proudly introduces me to the team. "Fellas, I'd like to introduce you to my daughter. This is Lucy, everyone."
The players greet me with waves and hellos, except for one guy sitting on the bench, engrossed in his phone, occasionally laughing. I point him out, asking, "Who's that?"
"Jamie Tartt. Hey, Beard, what's the deal with Jamie?" my dad inquires, and seemingly out of nowhere, Jamie appears beside us without making a sound.
Beard responds, "Says he can't practice today. Says he's hurt."
I observe my dad's face dropping with disappointment as he turns to walk out the door and over to Jamie, concern etched across his features.
The whole situation was intense, and I couldn't recall ever seeing my father this angry before. It seemed like there had never been an opportunity for him to get this worked up until now. Watching him unleash his frustration on Jamie reminded me of my mom, who had her share of heated moments. While my dad appeared to be justified in his outburst, Jamie's disrespectful behavior only reinforced my 'British men suck shit' theory.
Feeling overwhelmed, a tingling sensation crept into my head, and my heart raced with the familiar signs of an impending panic attack. I needed to escape, so I swiftly turned on my heel and walked out of the office, trying to distract myself by fiddling with the rings on my fingers.
Wandering aimlessly down the halls, I searched for a private space to catch my breath and calm down. Passing a laughing man, a short guy carrying a laundry bag, and a stunning blonde woman who seemed out of place here, I stopped in my tracks when I heard my dad's name mentioned in a hushed conversation.
"Rebecca, I don't think Coach Lasso will be too thrilled about you trading Jamie away.”
“Higgins, listen to me. I don't care if Lasso is trying to get through to Jamie or if he begs him to come back. Jamie is not returning, and that's precisely what I need," she asserts before abruptly changing the subject, "Now, let me go hunt down my biscuits. They're late."
Realization hits me like a ton of bricks. Dad is being sabotaged. All this time, I believed he was here to make a positive impact on the team, but it turns out they see him as nothing more than a joke. Stepping away from the door, I attempt to make a quick exit, only to collide with a statuesque woman who towers over me.
She glances down at me, exuding power through her stature and fashion, but I'm not intimidated. "Why, hello there, whoever you are. Are you lost?" she inquires.
Ah, this must be Rebecca. The woman who plans to screw my father over. I can't help but roll my eyes at her. "No. Just looking for the bathroom," I retort.
Rebecca gestures towards the sign, displaying her passive-aggressiveness. "Well, it's just around the corner. Right where the 'bathroom' sign is," she points out.
"Cool," I respond nonchalantly, not letting her faze me. "Oh, and by the way, my name's Lucy. Thanks for hiring my dad to coach!"
I catch a flicker of terror in Rebecca's eyes before I walk away, grinning to myself. Drama seems to follow me wherever I go, even in Richmond. Old habits die hard, I suppose.
——
After my quick trip to the loo, I wander over to the dog track, where Dad and Beard stand, closely observing the team's training session. I can't help but chuckle at Jamie's predicament as he wears a penny and sets up cones.
Dad notices my arrival and playfully calls out, "Oh, there you are, Waldo! What were you doing?"
His attempts at humor fail to catch me off guard. While I understand his references, I refuse to engage in the corniness. "Nothing, just using the bathroom," I reply with a mischievous grin, not willing to spill the beans about Rebecca's scheming ways. "Oh, and I met Rebecca. She seems nice," I lie sarcastically, well aware of her conniving nature.
Before Dad can respond, a rather handsome player approaches us gracefully. "Hello there. Sorry, Coach Lasso, but I couldn't continue practice without introducing myself to our guest," he says with a charming smile. "My name is Sam Obisanya. It's a pleasure to meet you, Lucy. The other players and I were wondering if you'd care to join us on the field for a few minutes. We'd like to have some fun at Jamie's expense. Is that alright?"
I return Sam's smile and reply, "Uh, sure. But I haven't played in years, dude. Not sure I'll be any good among you professionals.”
Sam brushes off my concerns, reassuring me, "Oh, that's alright, Lucy. I'm sure Thierry will let you score a couple of goals. Come on!" With that, he guides me towards the field, announcing to the team, "She said yes, you guys!" Their enthusiastic cheers fill the air.
As we assemble for a quick game, a guy with a buzzed fade named Isaac addresses me, confirming my name, "Alright, Lucy, is it?" I nod, and he explains the teams, "We're gonna split into five and five, and you're gonna play with the lads who ain't got a kit on."
"Sounds good," I respond with enthusiasm. I turn to the guys without kits, and each extends a hand for a handshake. I go down the line, shaking hands with each one. There's a short man with curly hair, Bumbercatch, followed by a tall fellow with a broad smile, Jan Maas. Then, a highly energetic man named Dani Rojas greets me, not wasting any time to exclaim, "Football is life!" right in front of me. The last guy, a mousey brunette named Colin, completes the line-up.
Quickly getting into formation with my newfound teammates, they place me front and center for the play. I'm facing off with Sam, who gives me a friendly smile. At the sound of the whistle, we both dash for the ball, but I swiftly take control and dribble it down the field. Roy Kent charges towards me, determined to tackle the ball away, but I outmaneuver him with a quick juke, causing him to land on his ass. The guys react with astonishment, and suddenly, the game shifts from Sam's gentle start to full intensity.
Isaac rushes towards me, sporting a determined expression, but I pass the ball to Dani Rojas, who's open and ready. Dani drives it down the field, but as soon as he spots an opportunity, he passes it back to me. With precision, I shoot the ball into the goal, leaving the goalkeeper stunned as it whizzes past him.
The entire team stands in complete silence, including my dad and Coach Beard, who are both staring at me with their mouths agape. The momentary hush is broken by Jamie Tartt, who teasingly remarks, "Ay, wanker's kid just got you real good, lads." He winks at me, provoking a gag from me followed by a flip-off.
Isaac can't contain his excitement, exclaiming, "Shit, bruv! You just broke Roy Kent's ankles!"
Roy growls behind me, clearly not pleased with being outplayed. "You got fucking lucky, kid," he grumbles.
I don't back down, confidently replying, "Luck's got nothing to do with it. Either you're cursed or you just ate shit, Kent."
I have to admit, Richmond has exceeded my expectations thus far, but I won't let it get the best of me just yet.
THE SOFTLY FALLING NIGHT.
If the darkest hour,
Is before the dawn,
Then alas! it is the hour,
That I was surely born.
For when I came into this world,
My mother went away,
And my father took it out on me,
Yes! My father made me pay.
He blamed me for my mother's death,
And he always told me so,
How he prayed that mother had lived on,
And I was the one to go.
He said I was a parasite,
And I lived upon the dead,
And he made my life a hell on earth,
And filled my days and nights with dread.
I lived a life of misery,
In a household filled with hate,
Praying for forgiveness,
For his hate to dissapate.
But every day the hate just grew,
It did stifle and did smother,
For when my father looked at me,
He saw my dear, dead mother.
Then one stormy winters night,
My mother came to me,
And told me, from my father's house,
That I must quickly flee.
She said my father's hate had grown;
He had murder on his mind,
And to sanity and reason,
He had gone completely blind.
I fled my lonely, hostile home,
I'd no possessions for to pack,
No things that I could call my own;
Just the rags upon my back.
I raced into the raging storm,
I ran into the night,
Through the thunder and the blackness,
Through the lightnings, strobing light.
I travelled far and I travelled wide,
I sailed the seven seas,
And every night and every morn,
I prayed upon my knees.
I prayed for light and guidance,
For the strength to carry on,
Until the countless roads I travelled,
Led me back to my bleak home.
I had vengeance in my heart,
And I had murder on my mind,
But despite the way that I was reared,
I was not the killing kind.
I stopped and gazed at the old place,
It was gone beyond repair,
The windows cracked and smeared with grime,
And rubbish everywhere.
I saw a man upon the steps,
He was bent and old and grey,
Just a shadow of the man he was,
On the night I ran away.
The hate that I had nourished,
The anger I had fed,
Just fell off from my heavy heart,
And pity filled my head.
How could I hate this broken man;
This wretch of skin and bone,
I could not see the daemon,
Who had made me flee my home.
I turned away with n'er a word,
And my heart was warm and light,
And I went upon my way,
In the softly, falling night.
Tumblr media
The wind blew softly through the leaves as Hatake Kakashi, the renowned Copy Ninja of Konohagakure, walked down the streets of his beloved village. His mismatched eyes gazed at everything around him with a sense of detachment. Ever since that fateful mission where he had lost his best friend Obito and witnessed Rin's tragic death, Kakashi had become consumed by sorrow.
As he strolled past Ichiraku Ramen, a place that held many memories for him and his team, something caught his attention. A young woman with vibrant (h/c) hair sat alone at one of the tables, her eyes filled with sadness resembling his own.
Curiosity piqued within Kakashi as he approached her table. "Mind if I join you?" he asked quietly, surprising himself with the sudden urge to reach out to someone who seemed just as broken as he was.
She looked up at him, startled but also relieved to have someone to share their pain with. "Go ahead," she replied softly, gesturing towards the empty seat across from her.
They shared silence for a while before Kakashi spoke again, breaking the somber atmosphere that enveloped them both. "I'm sorry if this is too forward, but... what brings you here? You seem troubled."
A glimmer of gratitude flashed in her eyes as she let out a sigh. "It's complicated," she admitted hesitantly. "But... there's something about oranges that always reminds me of happier times."
Kakashi furrowed his brows slightly in confusion but didn't press further. Instead, they engaged in casual conversation—a brief escape from their respective burdens.
Days turned into weeks and weeks into months since that initial meeting between Kakashi and Y/N (your name). Their connection grew stronger with each passing day, as they found solace in one another's presence. The bond they shared was unspoken yet palpable.
One evening, Kakashi walked Y/N home after their usual rendezvous at the ramen stand. Along the way, he noticed a faint scent of oranges lingering in the air. It triggered something deep within his heart, an inexplicable feeling that resonated through his entire being.
"Y/N," he began hesitantly, "I've been meaning to ask you... What is it about oranges that holds such significance for you?"
Her eyes filled with melancholy as she took a deep breath. "There's a poem I once heard that captures the essence of my pain," she replied softly. "It's called 'Something In The Orange' my mother wrote it once."
Intrigued, Kakashi listened attentively as Y/N recited some of the poem:
"But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun
Something in the orange tells me we're not done"
The words struck a chord within him. It was as if those words were spoken specifically for their shared sorrow and longing.
Days turned into months once again, and their bond only grew stronger. Kakashi and Y/N became inseparable, supporting each other through their darkest moments and cherishing every stolen moment of happiness together.
However, fate had a cruel way of testing their strength. News reached Konoha that a great war loomed on the horizon—a battle that would determine the future of their world.
Kakashi knew what this meant—he would be called upon to fight alongside his fellow shinobi, risking his life once more. The weight of responsibility weighed heavily on his shoulders as he contemplated leaving Y/N behind.
When he finally mustered up the courage to tell her about the mission, tears welled up in her eyes. "Please come back to me," she pleaded, her voice filled with desperation and fear.
Kakashi held her close, promising to return no matter what. But deep down, he knew that promises were difficult to keep in times of war.
The night before Kakashi's departure arrived all too quickly. Y/N clung to him tightly, not wanting to let go as if it would somehow keep him safe from harm. She whispered words of love and encouragement, praying for his safe return.
As Kakashi looked into Y/N's tear-filled eyes, he felt a wave of emotions crash over him—love, guilt, and an overwhelming sense of duty. He pressed a gentle kiss onto her forehead before reluctantly pulling away.
"I promise I'll come back," he said softly, his voice laced with both determination and uncertainty.
Y/N smiled through her tears but couldn't shake off the feeling of foreboding that gripped her heart as Kakashi disappeared into the darkness of the night.
Weeks turned into months without any word from Kakashi. As the war raged on relentlessly, Y/N found herself consumed by despair and anxiety. The scent of oranges that once brought solace now served as a painful reminder of a promise yet unfulfilled.
One evening, while sitting alone at Ichiraku Ramen—the place where their story began—a familiar face approached Y/N. It was an ANBU member carrying devastating news.
"Ma'am," he spoke solemnly, "I regret to inform you that Hatake Kakashi lost his life during battle."
Y/N's world shattered in an instant. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably as she struggled to comprehend the harsh reality that had just been thrust upon her.
Days turned into weeks, and Y/N found herself trapped in an abyss of grief. Her days became a blur, her nights filled with haunting dreams of Kakashi's smile and the sweet sound of his laughter.
One day, as Y/N wandered aimlessly through Konoha's graveyard, she stumbled upon a plot adorned with orange flowers—a solemn tribute to the fallen hero. It was there that she fell to her knees, unable to bear the weight of her sorrow any longer.
"I'm sorry," she whispered brokenly, clutching onto the gravestone as if it were Kakashi himself. "I failed you... I couldn't keep my promise."
Suddenly, a gentle breeze rustled through the trees, carrying with it the faint scent of oranges. A sense of peace washed over Y/N as if Kakashi's spirit had heard her plea.
Years passed since that fateful day when Y/N finally managed to find some semblance of healing within her shattered heart. She had dedicated her life to honoring Kakashi's memory by helping others in need—just as he would have done.
One evening while tending to the memorial site, Y/N discovered a small orange tree growing nearby. It stood tall and proud—its leaves vibrant and full of life. Tears welled up in her eyes as she realized that this tree was a testament to their love—the love that continued to blossom even in the face of tragedy.
Something her mother used to say echoed softly in her mind:
"Something in the orange
Tells me we're not done"
As she traced her fingers along one delicate leaf, she knew deep within her soul that Kakashi was still with her—an eternal presence guiding
Can you write a cute fanfic with belly and jere?
i got carried away... if this is too deep then just send another ask LMAOO
call it what you want babe
Tumblr media
lol second thing i've ever written but i've had this idea for SO LONG!! you can totally skip the lines i just thought it was so applicable, this is based on the taylor swift song call it what you want!! warnings: angst w susannah and mentions of conrad BUT UNBEARABLE FLUFF AFTER BEGINNING!! IT GETS CUTE IM SORRY I GOT CARRIED AWAY paring: jeremiah fisher and belly conklin word count: 749 premise: takes place the summer belly and jeremiah get together, so basically after season 2 (basically canon complicit?)
Tumblr media
all the jokers dressing up as kings; they fade to nothing when i look at him
it had been eight weeks since susannah fisher had died. it had been fourteen weeks since belly had broken up with conrad.
but it had been four weeks with jeremiah fisher.
belly realized shortly after reconnecting with the brothers that jeremiah had loved her. he had loved her more true, and more pure than anyone ever did.
and i know i make the same mistakes every time; bridges burn, i never learn
her life came to a devasting halt. people have come and go in her life, but susannah was someone who loved her from the moon to saturn. she always repeated that she was destined for one of her boys, but never understood jeremiah's undying fire for belly.
at least i did one thing right. i did one thing right.
so here she was, fingers interlocked as they walked down the boadwalk of cousins beach, wrapping up their time out. jeremiah looked down at the girl he had loved for so long, ocean eyes adoringly meeting hers. he asks, "d'you wanna find a keepsake for tonight?" she smiles up at him, barely focusing on his words. his language was entangled with the blaring sounds of the rides and people around them. nodding, he leads her to the ring toss stand and purchases 6 rings for the each of them. as easy as it was to love jeremiah, it was hard to win at ring toss.
i'm laughing with my lover; making forts under covers
jeremiah had gotten a ring to stay on a bottle, and the worker asked what prize he had wanted. he gestured to belly, "pick any one you want, bells." she points to the giraffe.
as she walked with him to the cousins beach house they all loved, she made a mental note.
trust him like a brother
as complicated as her life was, she needed someone who would be her anchor. she needed the boy who let her feelings run wild, but would still tie her to home. she unlocked the door to the cozy abode, leaving the keys on the seashell hooks. the air was reminiscent of moments she had had with susannah, conrad, her mother, steven, taylor, and even cam.
yeah, you know i did one thing right.
she let the thoughts clear her head, and let her heart lead her. jeremiah had taken off his shoes and turned on the tv, opting to play music instead of turning on a movie. belly sits the giraffe down on the kitchen island, slumping over slightly as she prepared dinner.
"what are you gonna name him?" jeremiah asks, walking over to her. his hands meet her sides, resting comfortably on her hips, pressing light kisses on her cheek and neck.
she poured the uncooked pasta into boiling water, then turned to face him. "i'm not sure yet," she giggles, choosing to lightly bump his nose with her finger. "you don't have to decide yet," he kisses her forehead. "we have all the time in the world."
starry eyes sparking up my darkest night
and they did. as jeremiah prepared their pasta, belly couldn't help but feel that everything in her life was worth it if she got to be with him. exciting nights alone couldn't even fathom replacing the most mundane nights with jeremiah fisher.
my baby's fit like a daydream, walking with his head down
plating their food and mixing a fruity concoction for both of them to drink, jeremiah grabbed the unnamed giraffe. belly sat on the couch close to jeremiah, and he pulled her closer. he wrapped his arms around her, cradling both her and the stuffed animal in his arms. the food was abandoned on the table as they laid together. for all the mistakes that she had made, for all the trouble they had gone through together, it had all amounted to this.
"jeremiah, have i ever told you how lucky i am to be with you?" she asked, nervously. he looked stunned, perplexed that she would say something like this. his features softened as he answered, "bells, you don't have to."
i'm the one he's walking to
"i think i'll never truly comphrehend how lucky i am to be with you." he pauses, looking at her. his pupils would morph into hearts if they could.
this was their ending.
so call it what you want, yeah, call it what you want to.
in which heisenberg explains why he stole rose
“Made my factory look like a resort.  Old town hospital they bought.  Had the full lab, shitty place.  Had known about it from…anyway.”
He was struggling to continue, but Heisenberg soldiered on despite Ethan’s gaze.  “So I knocked all the power, backup power too.  Figured she was cryin’ from the dark.  Gonna just destroy the samples, be on my way.  Goal was you, Ethan.  Not her.  She was with her mom. I’d never. But then I heard ‘em talkin’.  The docs, not security.”
Karl paused once more, heavy weighted silence draping over the two men.  Ethan thought back to the memory: the dark hall, the wheelchair.  Whoever was in it seemed almost sedated, slouching forward.  After several moments, Karl cleared his throat.
“Mia wasn’t..she wasn’t, well.  I’m guessin’ that bitch, bein’ in the lab….”  Karl’s agitation grew, and he shivered in the sun, willing the energy away.  “Anyway.  Heard they were separatin’ her, gonna run tests on Rose while Mia wasn’t well enough to….”
Ethan’s widened gaze dropped from Heisenberg’s scarred face, to the wildflowers at his feet.  The lonely, Gothic setting of this cliffside, rose-laden garden, and the country home beyond it, suddenly made more sense than anything had in awhile.  It was bleak, cynical, and wove loss together with love as if they were one entity.
Family was supposed to be forever, a promise, a solidarity.  Something as permanent as the stare on the face of the granite angel that peered down at them now.
It was what had kept Ethan going, what felt safe and indestructible.  More often than not, it was the only thing that kept him going, through the darkest days he’d ever experienced.  Days that should have ended with his death, Mia’s death.  Rose’s death.  But they’d all come through.  And he thought, stupidly, it had been because they were family.  That wasn’t why.
Since Dulvey, the only thing that Ethan had truly learned was how truly ephemeral family could be.  From the Bakers, to Eveline’s longing, all the way across the world to this godforsaken spot, where family seemed synonymous with decay .
He’d always known, hadn’t he?  Ethan’s stubbornness was truly just denial of what he’d always bore witness to.  Family was a house of cards, a rotting foundation that could go away at any time.  He thought it gave him strength, but it wasn’t family.  It was the Mold all along, making all of them superhuman, but still broken.
He’d given Rose to Chris.  Handed her over to the only man he’d trusted, at one time.  The BSAA saw them all as nothing but experiments after all of it.  Ethan hadn’t known his own wife was sitting in a cavern while Miranda was with him…an entire village slaughtered, and he a last-minute witness to the end of even more families.  All of it caused by the dreams and ambition of a broken mother.
The person Miranda sought never appeared to her, after all this time.
Ethan’s breath was loud in his ears.  Tears stung his eyes and for the first time since she’d reappeared, he lost sight of Rosemary thanks to his blurring vision.  Ethan had never openly sobbed in front of Heisenberg, or anyone else, but he buried his face in his hands and heard his own ragged breaths turning into hiccuping sobs.
If Heisenberg thought this emotional display inappropriate, he didn’t comment on it.  Instead his hands danced around his coat pockets, finding the winning combination of cigar and lighter.
go read it
you know you want to
So I'm playing Fable 2 again and I'm making my new Sparrow everyone's porblem.
(Under cut so I don't clog everyone's dash)
She's essentially the same as my Classic Sparrow (murder girl raised as a living weapon, generally a Hero but becoming corrupted by the choices she feels forced to make and the weight of her responsibility), BUT with two differences.
New Sparrow was a born Villain. I've decided to headcanon that in THIS version of the Fable Universe, Archon Blooded Siblings are always a Hero and a Villain; the level of Hero/Villain each of them are varies, but that's what I decided to go with.
Now, Rose in this AU would have been a Heroic Hero, but Sparrow was a born villain - she has a darkness inside of her (inspired by the Baldur's Gate 3 Dark Urge) that gives her a proclivity for darker things, which is why she engages with The Temple of Shadows, but she isn't willing to go as far as to annihilate Oakfield - at least not that early in her journey. She learns after going back to Bowerstone for the first time in a decade that she has a hefty desire for praise, thus she indulges in all the pageantry of heroism, while feeding her darkest desires as privately as she can.
She met her husband in Westcliff; initially she planned to just use Lez to open the Oakfield Demon Door and then Sacrifice him to the Shadows, but he grew on her during the journey from Westcliff to Oakfield (the male Thug voice model says "Woof Woof" if you praise the dog in front of him, and for that reason he lives lol) and she decided to keep him around. They have a daughter together, Libby, who inherited Sparrow's evil and her father's aggression. She visits them often, and was a doting mother while Libby was a baby. She loved that she could come home covered in blood and he would not only not run in fear, but be incredibly attracted to her. (One of his sex lines is "Big and strong, just how I like 'em!" which is great, because I had Accuracy and Physique almost maxed out before she even went to the spire. Lez knows what he's ABOUT.)
It's actually her family that inspires Sparrow to start buying up properties and businesses to build an empire; she wants her family to want for nothing. (1000 gold upkeep!)
In The Spire, she discovers that she can indulge her sadomasochistic tendencies and be rewarded for it. Were it not for her intense drive to destroy Lucien, she may have turned on Garth to remain there - she had genuinely bonded with The Commandant (having been raised by Theresa essentially as a vengeance fueled living weapon, this Sparrow was well suited to Spire life).
After the Spire, the first thing she does is reunite with her family; obviously Libby has grown. She remains a doting mother right up until Lucien murders her family.
After defeating Lucien, Sparrow chooses to wish her family back, mostly because she cannot live without her dog...but she never visits her husband and daughter again.
She hopes the world will forget that they exist. If her enemies believe she doesn't care about them, maybe this time they will be safe. (She maintains their upkeep in secret).
This Sparrow turns to Reaver for solace and companionship in much the same way my OG Sparrow does, with the added caveat of him being one of the few people aware that her original husband and daughter are still alive. This extends to Sparrow taking up Reaver's offer to help her become immortal, like him (which "sadly", due to Theresa's interference, does not stick).
For Libby's role in the extended Lore, she grows up jaded and angry - she learns that her mother isn't dead like her father claimed; in fact, she's the queen of fucking Albion. Libby eventually becomes a Bandit Queen in her own right, a fully Villainous Hero.
Now, canonically, since Fable 3 takes place 50 years after Fable 2, Sparrow has to be between 50 and 60 years old when Logan and the HoBW are born (which is part of why I headcanon that she extended her life like Reaver did), while she was 18 when Libby was born. As such, Libby is considerably older than Logan. If Logan was 25 during the events of Fable 3, Libby is 35 years older than him, and is 60 during that timeline.
I like the idea of Logan meeting Libby shortly after Sparrow's death, fighting her as the new King of Albion VS The Bandit Queen, and not realizing that she's his sister until she's forced to use her will abilities to fight him, and she volunteers the information by way of telling him that he "is the spitting image of Mother." Covertly, Libby assists Logan in his eradication of the Trolls.
In this, Logan is actually the one of the siblings born to be a Heroic Hero, meanwhile his sisters, Libby and Olivia (my HoBW) are Villainous Heroes like their mother. (Libby also clocks immediately that Olivia is Reaver's daughter - Libby does not meet Olivia, but bullies Logan relentlessly about their father being fucking Reaver)
