Brutally honest thoughts on each Descendants character.

Disclaimer: Only going to do characters that I can think of at the moment that don't really require me to look them up. I've seen the original trilogy, the Royal Wedding special, the Christmas special in between D2 and D3, and the Halloween Special after D3. I've seen Wicked World, read only Rise Of The Isle by Messila De La Cruz and two books from the School of Secrets series. I don't plan on watching the newest movie that supposedly is coming out later this year on Disney+.

So, we here go!

Uma - I've liked Uma since the beginning. Also, look at the stuff I reblog on here! I'm a big Huma shipper.

Harry Hook - Seriously, look at the stuff I reblog on here!

Gil - A Himbo. He's cute and means well but, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. I have him paired up with Cj(which I aged her up and aged Harriet down for my canon of Descendants and made them triplets.)

Cj Hook - First character I focused on alongside with Gil before I started majorly focusing on Uma and Harry. Not really a big fan of the voice they had her for Wicked World. I get she's supposed to be at least like 2 or 3 years younger than Harry but, to me, the voice doesn't match with the personality that Cj has. I head cannon Sabrina Carpenter as Live action CJ (Though shorter than the height I have Cj in my universe)

Freddie and Ceila - Could have done more with both of them in both Wicked World and Descendants 3

Dizzy - I liked her in Descendants 2 but, could have done so much more with her in Descendants 3

The Smee Twins (Yes, I forgot their names) - Really don't see the point of why they were in there. They had like 10 minutes of screen time and not any dialogue in the final cut of the movie. Their existence seems pointless to the story besides them being children of Mr. Smee, Captain Hook's first mate

Zevon - Another Wicked World character. Could have done more with him than they did if I remember correctly

Mal - Didn't really care for Mal in the beginning. Now with all the stuff that's coming out about Dove Cameron lately regarding her on set behavior during Descendants 3, I think it's not a bad thing I don't really care for Mal

Evie - I'll admit it, Evie and Ben should have been together. They seem to be a better fit than Mal and Ben. A little better than Ben and Audrey as a couple but, that's neither here or there

Jay - Don't really see why it was implied that Cj had a crush on Jay in Wicked World. Not saying that it's a bad thing, just don't see it

Carlos - Definitely should have done more with his relationship with Jane in the last 2 movies

Ben - Should have made Ben break up with Mal after he figured out that she literally drugged him and made him cheat on Audrey. And definitely should have had him apologize to Audrey and officially break up with her because of that. I get that he did end up loving Mal also, but come on, man!

Audrey - Really hated her in the beginning. Over the last year or so, I've stopped hating her. That doesn't mean I like her

Chad - Well, he's Chad

Doug - Should have tone down the creepy factor in D1 and not the personality switch up in D2 when they go back to the Isle

Lonnie and Jane - Could have done so much more and much better things for them than what happened to them in the movies and Wicked World

Belle and Beast - What in the actual fuck!

VK parents - Not sure what to say here

BEN 10 KEYBLADES!

TENFOLD -

A Keyblade modeled after the Omnitrix in Ben 10! This Keyblade is designed to have strong combo modifiers! The entire Keyblade is designed after the prototype Omnitrix that Ben uses throughout the series, stylized to have more black and white with accenting green instread of prodominately green, reflecting the alien designs seen in this series. The token is Heatblast.

The world logo is that of the Rust Bucket, where the Tennysons spend their time inbetween alien adventures. The name comes from Ben's power being tenfold with his 10+ different aliens.

SCREAM STREAM -

A Keyblade modeled after the livestreaming experience of Halloween Resurrection! This Keyblade is designed to have high thunder techniques. The hilt guard of the blade has several monitors, referencing the streaming theme of the movie, with the teeth of the blade being a recording camera, with a kitchen knife flair. The token is a pumpkin with the ear mounted recording device.

The world logo is that of the Myers Home, where the entirety of the movie takes place. The name comes from the two major aspects of the movie: Screaming and Streaming.

HERO TIME -

A Keyblade modeled after the Alien Force Trio from Ben 10 Alien Force. This Keyblade is designed to increase the damage of summons. The hilt of the Keyblade is designed after the recalibrated Omnitrix, representing Ben. The Shaft of the blade is designed after Kevin's Car, representing Kevin himself. The teeth of the blade is a Mana Orb, representing Gwen. The token is Swampfire.

The world logo is the now central location of Bellwood. The name comes from Ben's iconic phrase, "It's Hero Time!"

ULTIMATE PRIZE -

A Keyblade designed after the Ultimatrix of Ben 10 Ultimate Alien. This Keyblade is designed to have high strength. The hiltguard of the Keyblade is designed to represent the Ulitmatrix, the main Omnitrix seen in Ultimate Alien. This design conitinues up the shaft, ending in the Ultimatrix symbol covering the Seal. The teeth is Dagon's tentacles begin freed from said Seal. The token is that of Ultimate Swampfire.

The world Logo is Bellwood again, but with more Ultimate Humungasaur design to it. The name comes from Aggregor's search for the Ultimate Prize.

OMNIPOTEN -

A Keyblade designed after the omniversal elements of Ben 10 Omniverse! This Keyblade is designed to have high combo modifiers. The hiltguard is designed to have the new Omnitrix wielded by current Ben combining into the prototype Omnitrix wielded by the past Ben. The shaft of the blade has some design elements from the new Omnitrix, but ends in Rook Blanko's Proto-Tool. The teeth of the blade is a stylized version of the new Omnitrix's holographic alien selection mode. The Keychain and token is that of the newest alien Feedback.

The world logo is designed after the newest addition to Bellwood, Undertown. The name came from my friend DreadCaptainClover, adding the pun of Ten to Omnipotent.

POWER OF TEN -

A Keyblade designed after the 2016 reboot of Ben 10! It is designed to have stronger electric attacks. The hilt of the Keybade is designed by combining the elements of the Season 2, 3 and 4/5 Omnitrixes seen in the show, with the Season 3 version appearing at the center of the hilt. The shaft of the Keyblade is designed after Ben's Go-Kart, but with elements of the Season 3 Omnitrix color scheme and a Omnitrix face plate combining elements of the Omnikix and Omni-Naut transformations. The teeth of the blade are inspired by the Omni-Enhanced transformation coming from Shockrock, using the rock design with the electrical elements forming the actual teeth. The token is the reboot's version of Heatblast.

The World Logo is the Rust Bucket, as this series again follows the Tennysons in the Rustbucket. The name comes from the ever notable fact that Ben has the power of ten different aliens.

MULTIVERSAL HEROES -

A Keyblade designed after the combination of Danny Phantom and Ben 10 in the fan comic by the Ink Tank, 5 Years Later! This Keyblade is designed to have more powerful transformations. The hilt guard of the Keyblade is designed after Danny's Ghost form, using the white and black design. The shaft and hilt of the blade is designed after this universes design of the Omnitrix while in Uniform mode, using the white accents to break up the black and green design. The teeth of the blade is designed after Danny's logo, with the Omnitrix shaft making the P part, and Danny's new flaming hair design making the D teeth. The token is the 5YL logo.

The World Logo is Bellwood, as the story takes place in Ben's side of the multiverse. The name comes from the fact that Danny and Ben are both Heroes in different parts of the Multiverse!

Rambling about Ben 10 and the English language for ~800 words

In March 24th of 2008, Latin America faced a significant problem: the newest DVD release of popular cartoon series Ben 10 had been released, and it did not feature a Spanish dub. This limited access to the majority of the population, since most of them did not speak English. It was a real problem, I swear. Many people were affected! One child in particular suffered most of all… Me. It was me. I was the main victim of this crime. Seven year old me was absolutely obsessed with Ben 10 and I watched the DVD episodes on repeat most days. When I got the season 3 disks, I was confused to see that they did not have an option for translated audio. However, they did have Spanish subtitles available, and I had the determination to continue watching the show on loop. The result of this was watching every episode of season 3 and then later 4 over and over, day after day, listening to English audio while simultaneously reading Spanish subtitles. At some point, one simply starts understanding what they’re saying.

The image of a child learning a new language out of sheer determination to keep watching one particular cartoon show is pretty funny, which is why for the most part I only bring it up to get a laugh out of people. Going deeper into it, though, it is not hard to see that it actually ended up being a pretty important event in my life. It’s not that the experience of listening to the explanation for how Ben 10 suddenly unlocked Upchuck of all aliens to eat a giant robot in the season finale had a profound impact on me, though the season’s Ghostfreak arc did fuel my continued obsession with the show. It’s that it’s hard to imagine how different of a path my life would have taken if I had never learned to speak English. This is, of course, almost entirely due to the Internet.

I’ve almost never been in a position where knowing English has been necessary offline, but online it’s a different story, with basically every popular website requiring you to be able to at least understand English, even if not fluently speak it yourself. Without access to this mass of information, I would be a very different person right now, considering that being limited to only what I learned from people and institutions around me would leave me with significant gaps in knowledge. I may have questioned less about how this society works and what is expected of all of us. I would imagine my political views, while still strongly anti-colonialist, would emphasise anti-capitalism less.

A more personally dramatic change would likely be my lack of exposure to the concept of being transgender. Queer topics are simply never discussed in Puerto Rico, unless by way of disparaging comments and jokes. I would likely still know next to nothing about them had I never learned English and gone online to stumble across information by myself. I might still be occasionally wondering what’s wrong with me in the rare moments of introspection before returning to my default state of running on autopilot, which went on for years which I now genuinely struggle to remember most of. I would also never have met the people that went on to become my friends. What would have happened had I graduated high school in that state and had no one left to talk to, to confide in, to ease my loneliness with? What would have happened had I never met Shahnaz, the person I’m closest to in this entire world, who knows me better than anyone and is the only one I trust to talk to about my deepest issues? They’ve shaped my life in so many ways that it feels impossible to imagine a version of myself that never knew them, never knew her.

Being able to understand this language has, looking back, been a vital part of my development into being the person I am now. It let me consume media I would otherwise have missed out on. It allowed me access to information and perspectives that I may never have been exposed to had I been relying exclusively on what I learned from people and institutions locally, or even limited to Latin American internet, leading me to question more about the world, the society and systems we live under, and myself. It even made me able to connect with people who I otherwise would have had no chance of talking with, some of whom would go on to become close friends and have significant influences on me as a person. Hell, I’m now even planning on living in Scotland, a fully English-speaking country. That’s certainly going to bump up the amount of use I get out of the language. While I may sometimes have a few complicated feelings when it comes to the use of the language due to colonialism, I’ve never regretted knowing it. Being bilingual has widened my perspective on pretty much everything and allowed me to connect with some amazing people. Most of all, it let me watch Secret of the Omnitrix over and over and over again, and that shit is still cool as fuck. I’m gonna go watch Ben 10 again now.

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2023? The wee free men, by Terry Pratchett: witches, scottish fairies and a coming of age story set in the discworld universe. what's not to like? officially my new favourite discworld series

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2023? A hat full of sky, by Terry Pratchett: these are just excuses to talk about the tiffany aching series tbh. also granny weatherwax is back, so that's easy money

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To? Deadly ever after (Rivers of London graphic novels), by Ben Aaronovitch: the rivers of london novels, novellas and short stories are not enough. i need to inhale these graphic novels too. i can't wait for chaotic river goddess twins shanenigans!

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2023? The deep sky, by Yume Kitasei: not many anticipated releases for that time, but it was reccomanded to me and the synopsis sounds right up my alley

5. Biggest Disappointment? Leave the world behind, by Rumaan Alam: a cool premise but incredibly boring execution and not my preferred writing style. a disappointment mostly because it was so amped up

6. Biggest Surprise? No exit, by Taylor Adams: i'm not usually into thrillers, so i didn't have particularly high expectations. but it was really good at building tension, delivered a satisfying ending and had a badass final girl that was easy to root for

7. Favorite New Author? Alison Bechdel: read "Fun home" because a friend of mine wanted to show me the musical and fell in love with it. i can already tell why her works are considered queer classics and i plan to read everything i can find by her

8. Newest Favorite Character? Tiffany Aching: see point 2. most children protagonists fall a bit flat for me or they have at least a couple of moments where their actions or internal monologue feel just unauthentic. and then an adult british cis man writes a smart, lonely, strange little girl and he makes me feel like he knew my child-self better than most family members. and that's why i love terry pratchett (among many things) and why i would die and kill for tiffany aching. she is the one true heir of esme weatherwax and i can't wait to read more of her

9. Newest Fictional Crush? Jordan Baker (from The chosen and the beautiful by Nghi Vo): what can i say, i could never resist a bisexual brunette who was too smart for anyone's good and falls a bit in love with everyone <3

💕Best Ship💕 Blue/Hamal (from Taproot by Keezy Young): just some cute friends-to-lovers fluff with plants and ghosts. honourable mentions are: the extremely toxic polycule from tcatb. that's for new ships, but i have to mention peter/beverly: they're still the best power couple in the greater metropolitan london area (i know i cheated and said three but i can't choose)

10. Book That Made You Cry? I'm glad my mom died, by Jeanette McCurdy: a very tough read, especially with the audiobook narrated by the author herself with all the emotion she puts into the reading. not for the faint of heart, but the pain is absolutely worth it

11. Book That Made You Happy? The fey and the furious (Rivers of London graphic novels) by Ben Aaronovitch: it's a comic version of a series i love, about fairies and drag racing. the pun in the title! i was smiling ear to ear the whole time

12. Favorite Book Adaptation You Saw This Year? Nimona (2023): i just finsihed rewatching it and i will do it again. i was obsessed with the gn at 18 and i'm obsessed with the movie now. between this and she-ra nd stevenson just owns my ass at this point. even with all the changes from the original, it still captures the spirit of it beautifully, with all the added layers of how the author changed and grew since then. i love it with my whole queer heart <3

13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year? i don't write reviews anymore, but maybe i should start again just for myself

14. Most Beautiful Cover? The priory of the orange tree, by Samantha Shannon: colour scheme? on point. lettering? beautiful. a dragon? fuck yeah

15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year? ideally i'll complete my reading challenge, but for now i just hope i finish the ones i already started, so "One hundred years of solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez "Cemetery boys" by Aiden Thomas and "Circe" by Madeline Miller

Who is Eddie the Ben 10 character?

Edwin 'Eddie' Grand Smith!

Eddie appeared in one episode in the Original Series: Season 2 Episode 10: 'They Lurk Below'.

Quick episode summary:

Max is friends with Eddie's grandfather Donovan, a rich CEO who builds resorts. So during the summer trip, Max brings Ben and Gwen to the nearly-completed place to meet his friend and see the newest resort: an underwater hotel. Eddie, being Ben and Gwen's age, gets to hang out with them.

Said underwater resort is of course in the Bermuda Triangle. And naturally between building the resort and some alien tech Donovan salvaged during the building, it's got some weird cyber squid things mad and trying to destroy the place.

Ofc they manage to save the day. The resort goes get destroyed. And Donovan says that his next try at a resort will be on the moon.

So

Eddie wasn't the /most/ fleshed out character. But he was only here for one episode and we had him get along with Ben and Gwen, and we had him be a smart and resourceful character, and a little bit of development as he went from a bit aloof to opening up a bit.

I think he could've made more appearances throughout the series. If we're talking OS, then I think a few more 'he's at some big event that the Tennysons happen to also be at' sort of thing could lead to him helping on some adventures. If we jump to AF/UA, then a smart and resourceful kid with a lot of money could be quite a benefit to the Team. Only potential disqualifier is that Eddie is Human as far as we know(Donovan was not part of Alienfuckers Anonymous), but tbh we need more badass normals on the team because that's what the Plumbers initially were!

TFA-Atlas is based off of her counterpart TF-G1's Atlas who is a Comic-Only type Transformer...

but it be interesting if Altas appeared in some movie or show, like if TFA had a Season 4 or Season 5, Atlas could appear in the future in one of those seasons.

the info about G1-Atlas, is that he was from a Transformers Vs G.I. Joe comic, and while G1-Atlas is a Mech...

his TFA-Counterpart is a Femme, and well it appears that the name Atlas is both a boy & girl name, so it's fine that G1-Atlas's Femme Counterpart still goes by Atlas.

in a Crossover where Steven Universe, TFA and other series live on Earth, like maybe Amethyst could call Atlas "Mom" like how she calls Jasper "Sis" and sees the Other Amethyst as family, since they were all made and born on Earth.

Atlas could view all The Quartz and other gems that were both made and born on Earth, as her children, because when they were made, small pieces of her spark were placed into their gems.

Atlas could of been the reason that Amethyst stayed in the ground a little longer than she should have, because Atlas had sensed what was going to happen in the future that had to do with The Diamonds...

so yeah in a Crossover Universe, the circles of hell are around TFA-Atlas’s form, but in theory I still think it is possible that what we know as the circles of hell, weren’t always the circles of hell, and were part of the Earthly Mother/The Great Goddess’s kingdom, but then Lucifer and some other of the Eon-Boomers fell, and they ended up taking over those circles....

but they aren’t really evil, just need emotional support when needed and some understanding.

despair or we could also call it hopelessness, the color for that ring is ice blue.

and the newest one, is Self-Loathing, the color for that one is plum, like you could let those self-loathing thoughts pop up at times, viewing yourself as garbage and you have thoughts that some Masculine Angels, both Fallen and not fallen at all, might not give a care about your feelings at times or like at all.

like you can still love who you are, but could still have some form of self-loathing, even if you do love yourself...

and I guess gems could help with not feeling super bad if those thoughts tend to pop up at times, but I’m not saying I’m self-loathing so no misunderstandings.

anyway even if the Despair and Self-Loathing would just be in the Fanon side of Helluva Boss & Hazbin Hotel, that will be okay.

it would still be nice if Atlas became fully canon, and not what appears to be semi-canon, from a old crossover comic.

and the TFA-OC that is called Jetsparkle (Jet-Sparkle) is suppose to be Jetfire & Jetstorm’s little sister who is a neutral, she isn’t a Autobot or Decepticon.

she might only be a one-shot type character, not sure if I will draw her again or not......her optics are the same color as TFA-Atlas’s optics, which are green.

maybe I can try to do another drawing of a TFA version of Atlas sometime.

I once dreamt that a Ben 10 and Percy Jackson podcast got swapped

This one requires a bit of context.

So, recently, before I go to bed, I have been listening to one of 2 podcasts/online series. The first is “The Newest Olympian” by Mike Schubert. In this show, the host, Mike Schubert having never read the Percy Jackson books before, reads through the Percy Jackson books one chapter at a time where he discusses said chapter with a guest and makes predictions on what happens next. Percy Jackson is a YA book series about Ancient Greek Mythology and Gods being present in modern-day America.

The other series is “Ben 10 Breakdown” by Kuro The Artist. In this show, Kuro goes through the Ben 10 series one episode at a time (usually) where he discusses the plot, characters, art and other trivia of the show that he’s very familiar with. Ben 10 is a superhero show about a 10 year old that finds an Alien watch that lets him turn into 10+ Aliens that he uses to be a superhero.

So last night, I dreamt that the 2 hosts had magically switched topics. So Schubert was talking about Ben 10 and Kuro on Percy Jackson.

So starting with Schubert’s new show “Ben 10-less”, Schubert was reviewing the first episode with his guest where he said his favourite alien would be XLR8 (the fast one) because he could complete his chores faster and would be able to win at basketball much quicker. His big prediction for the show was that Ben didn’t get his Alien Watch by accident. That there had to be a reason that Ben specifically got it. So he predicted that the reason was that Ben’s parents were part Alien and knew he would be the chosen one so prepared the Watch for him to find and be a hero.

Meanwhile, Kuro was reviewing the first chapter of Percy Jackson where he started talking about how he couldn’t imagine how much harder video editing and animation would be if one had ADHD like Percy. And how the Greek Gods had a completely different plane of morality compared to humans (explaining how they often did actions that humans found reprehensible but the Greek Gods didn’t care) and then discussed stuff from the last book and how they were being foreshadowed in the first chapter (that I obviously can’t discuss here for spoilers).

And unlike Ahab, I’ve landed a good number of them!

What is a White Whale? Besides the obvious actual animal that no decent person should even hurt, it is an objective that is relentlessly or obsessively pursued but difficult to achieve. And for me, it's researching characters for Death Battle. Previous White Whales I got were Sonic for Mario Vs Sonic 2, Hal Jordan for Green Lantern Vs Ben 10, Red Ranger for Leonardo Vs the Red Ranger, Akuma for Akuma Vs Shao Khan, and as you can guess the next match. So while I still have one more researched match, it's not really one of my big gets. So today, I would like to highlight 10 (technically 11) of my most wanted research assignments. When will these happen? That’s what makes them White Whales.

1 - Anything Powerpuff Girls

I am a big time Powerpuff Girls fan and I can’t wait till Death Battle actually does this. Between HIM, Mojo Jojo and any three of the Powerpuff Girls, you got plenty of options for Death Battle competitors. Now the question is who could they fight. I’m always a big fan of HIM vs Bill Cipher. Mojo is a gold mine for possible matchups. And any one of the girls would do a fine job representing the Powerpuff Girls. All that matters is finding the right matchup and getting assigned it.

2 - The Silver Surfer

Like the Ghost Rider, I grew up getting the Silver Surfer comics in the mail. I still have the #50 issue that if I got graded I could make a pretty penny. I would love to read all the old Silver Surfer Comics I grew up with and all the new stuff that came out since then. I’ve even read about how he found another love and technically survived the big bang. Would love to know the details about this. And we can’t talk about the Silver Surfer without the guy who made him the Surfer he is…

3 - Galactus

Galactus is a fascinating character. An all powerful space entity who doesn’t have any desires positive and negative about other creatures but is considered a dangerous threat because he has to feed and the only thing that can satisfy his hunger are worlds filled with life. Imagine how much fun it would be to see just how powerful he can be. I even heard he actually crossed over into the Ultimate universe. Would be fun to see how that turned out.

4 - Scooby Doo

Scooby Doo is a fascinating franchise. So many series with so many styles, continuities and philosophies, Scooby Doo can be anywhere from goofy and silly to serious and action packed. Even the newest movie Trick or Treat Scooby Doo shows just how much life there still is in the Scooby Doo franchise. I would love to go through all the episodes and movies to see just what Scooby Doo is really capable of.

5 - Darkwing Duck

He is the Terror that Flaps in the Night. He is the matchup you get when you want a different opponent for that character. He’s Darkwing Duck! I would love to bring one of my favorite Cartoon Ducks to Death Battle. I would say Daffy or Donald but that would be like picking a favorite child. So to bring the Masked Mallard in Death Battle will be an honor.

6 - Tenchi Muyo

I grew up with Tenchi when it was on Toonami. To bring in Tenchi himself or even Ryoko would be a treat for me. To revisit that series, read the manga and find out exactly where all this Washi is a goddess thing is.

7 - The Undertaker and Cactus Jack

Macho Man showed us the silly side of wrestling thanks to his many external activities. But if you want to see just how far wrestling can get, these two are the big fish. With the Undertaker, you have the most deep lore possible, with demons and devils and universal writing capabilities. With Cactus Jack, you have the most brutal and dangerous side where you can lose an ear and still be wrestling or be caught in an exploding barbed wire ring. The complete tonal opposite of Macho Man.

8 - Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

A match I keep suggesting is a Cartoon Sonic Battle Royal. And as much as I love Sonic Boom, I want to give my attention to the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I think they can bring a lot more to the table than people think they could. After all, while Archie was inspired by SatAM, it's the AotSh tone that made Archie the broken thing it is.

9 - Outlaw Star

Outlaw Star is another anime I grew up with when it was on Toonami. You have a lot of fun characters to use: "Twilight" Suzuka with her wooden sword that can cut metal. Aisha Clanclan the alien with a powerful secondary form. And Gene Starwind with possibly the most fun weapon in his Caster Gun. I would love to relive this series and see just how well they can do in a Death Battle.

10 - Punisher

My earliest memory of Frank Castle was a crossover comic with Batman. How he was willing to kill the Joker right then and there but Batman stopped him. Then years later, during the Civil War, I see Frank Castle refusing to fight back despite Capt. America beating him up. Refusing to do so during training during the war and refusing to fight back despite Rogers being extremely mad. Because he respects the costume too much to go against him. I would love to show why he does what he does and why he believes no one should replicate what he does.

People believe the pressure of the sport and his performance in the competition pushed him to take his own life but his best friend Ethan Wilson doesn't believe it for a minute and begs Chloe to do some sleuthing and she can't refuse. She soon agrees with Ethan when she finds plenty of people who had the motive to be sure Aaron Gill had ridden his last wave. ______ I loved the first book in this series, A Half-Baked Murder, and couldn't wait to read this one. Ms. George has created strong characters. Chloe is smart and fun. I love that she and her Aunt Dawn run the cafe together. Dawn's current hobby is dog dancing. The lady always cracks me up. Chloe's Grandma Rose is a breast cancer survivor like me so I identify with her easily and was happy to see her life moving in a positive direction. Chloe's newfound friends, Cal, Ben, Archie, Erica, and Matt, often get together to play Dungeons and Dragons and have welcomed Chloe into their group. Jake is still around but the relationship he has with Chloe is complicated. I enjoy the way these characters continue to develop throughout this story. Matt's brother Ethan is a surfer and his best friend was the deceased Aaron Gill. He along with Matt and Chloe found him dead in his hotel room with a note in his hand. I will admit I read the synopsis and knew suicide would be mentioned in the story but had hoped it would be a fleeting moment and the death would be classified as a homicide much sooner. The police did not even look at any other evidence so it was up to Chloe and the others to prove it wasn't which carried it much further into the story. As a mother who lost an adult son to suicide many observances about Aaron and his behaviors and stressors hit my heart like a sledgehammer forcing me to put the book down to strengthen my heart and to skim certain sections. That being said I knew he was murdered and I had to know whodunit so I focused on the clues, I had a culprit in my sights, and was happy that in the end, I was right. The reveal was tense but the takedown was great. I find the theme of a cannabis café fresh and new. Ms. George takes the opportunity for Chloe to explain the way cannabis is used clearly for its medicinal benefits and the relief it can provide. Chloe also explains how she prepares the cannabis to be used in her recipes. Three recipes are included after the mystery. I wish I had a Sparkling Canna Gria to get me through the tough times while reading this story. A High Tide Murder is a well-plotted and well-written mystery with great characters that are engaging and entertaining. I am excited for this series to continue to see if the ending foreshadows what Chloe is going to face next. *Note - Suicide references could trigger survivors or their family members.
