Who is your scrunkly blorbo and why?

Happy Blorbo blursday!

I was trying to figure out if I even have a character I consider scrunkly and I think it can only be Margherita from The Deadlands. She was basically a feral child who ran around with wolves after all, and she still only kind of plays along with societal expectations and is mostly just sort of grumpy and rumpled.

2nd up, maybe Nyari for similar reasons, but he's also Very Poor. I think Marghe should be 1st because she has money and (had) a family but just chooses to be like that.

Working on more stuff I'm not supposed to be~

"Now look," Nyari said, standing up from the table, "I didn't come here looking for handouts or charity." Of course he couldn't exactly blame Dante for thinking that. Nyari wasn't the most presentable he'd ever been in his life, and it probably seemed strange to have an acquaintance show up with no warning after over ten years of silence. But Nyari had never been in the habit of letting anyone take care of him and that hadn't changed. Even if that person was the equivalent of a prince.

But it seemed he had misjudged the situation because Dante just laughed and motioned for him to sit back down. "Good, because I'm not offering you any. I'm trying to hire you for real. You could not have come at a more fortuitous time, I have a need of your particular talents right now."

That didn't seem quite right, from what Nyari remembered Dante was vastly more powerful than him. But it was true that Nyari’s talents were rather… specialized. He sat. "Go on."

"I don't know how much you remember," Dante began, "but I essentially function as the watchdog for this entire territory. Only recently a person or persons unknown has been interfering with me. There are many ways to try to block or confuse scrying spells, but before this I've never come across one that so persistently aggravates the specific vulnerabilities that my eyes leave me with."

"Someone is targeting you?" It wasn't as if he remembered specifics, but Nyari did know the Dante had a lot of trouble with his eyes. It was certainly why this room was so dark, with curtains drawn and only a few candles here and there bringing any light into the place. In the past Nyari remembered Dante hadn't even been able to take his blindfold off at night, so it seems things had improved, even if not by much.

"Yes. This leads me to believe that something unpleasant is brewing in the city that someone doesn't want me to know about. My eyes still leave me too vulnerable to be among crowds and in any case, I'm much too recognizable to go prowling the city streets." Dante sighed. "But as for you, not even counting your other abilities, one can't throw a stone in any direction without hitting a former plaything of the RMA. That brand on your neck will make you practically invisible."

Nyari rubbed his neck self-consciously. It wasn't exactly the best way to phrase it, but he couldn't deny that it was the truth. "So basically you want me to be your spy in the city."

"Find out what's happening and put a stop to it, by any means necessary. I'll pay all your expenses. So would do you say?"

A job was a job and, in his precarious social position, a luxury besides. Plus it wasn't as if he had anything better to do, nor did he have anywhere better to go. "Sure, I'll do it."

Dante beamed at him. "It'll be just like old times, working together again!"

Nyari thought that was a bit generous, considering the fact that Dante had more or less been a tagalong to the group and not an actual member. He tactfully decided not to say anything.

"You'll stay for dinner first of course."

"Of course."

"But I did mean it, earlier, when I said it was nice to see you. I'm really glad that you decided to come visit me. I've missed you."

Naomi blushed, and hoped vainly that Dante wouldn’t be able to tell in the low light. "Yeah, I, uh… I missed you too." It wasn't exactly a lie, even if Nyari had only come here because he had nowhere else to go. It was true that of the scattered memories he had remaining, he remembered more about Dante than anyone else. And although he could have simply come to live here as so many other refugees did, he had made it a point to seek Dante out – no mean feat considering the differences in their social status. "I'm kinda glad, actually, that you have a reason for me to stick around."

Dante laughed again. "Me too."
