Favorite food or meals? Best food you’ve ever had?
That's tough, recently, I have really gotten into biryani, but I'm not sure what my favorite food would be. Growing up, I would always say pizza or buffalo wings, but I wouldn't call them favorites anymore.
I also had some brisket, green beans, mac n cheese, okra, fried pickles, mashed potatoes, and collared greens yesterday to celebrate UFC 300; it was arguably one of my better feeling evenings.
I am very hungry now...thank you -.-

culture of India
India, often referred to as the land of diversity, is a cultural kaleidoscope that has fascinated and enchanted people from across the globe for centuries. Its rich heritage, traditions, languages, art forms, and cuisines reflect a civilization that has evolved over millennia, leaving an indelible mark on the world. In this blog, we embark on a journey to unravel the multifaceted culture ,culture of India delving into its historical roots, religious practices, artistic expressions, and modern-day manifestations.
Tumblr media
Historical Background:
The cultural history of India can be traced back to ancient times, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Stone Age. The subcontinent has witnessed the rise and fall of numerous civilizations, including the Indus Valley Civilization, which flourished around 3300 BCE. Subsequent waves of migration and settlement by various ethnic groups, including Aryans, Dravidians, Greeks, Persians, and Mongols, contributed to the diversity of India's cultural landscape.
Religious Diversity:
India is the birthplace of major religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, and has also been a melting pot of diverse faiths, including Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism. The religious tolerance and syncretism prevalent in India have resulted in a vibrant tapestry of rituals, festivals, and spiritual practices that coexist harmoniously. From the grand celebrations of Diwali and Eid to the solemnity of Buddhist retreats and Sikh gurdwaras, religion permeates every aspect of Indian life, shaping its customs, beliefs, and social structures.
Art and Architecture:
Indian art and architecture are renowned for their intricacy, symbolism, and spiritual significance. The ancient rock-cut temples of Ajanta and Ellora, the majestic forts and palaces of Rajasthan, and the exquisite carvings of temples in Khajuraho are testaments to India's rich architectural heritage. The country's artistic traditions encompass a wide array of mediums, including painting, sculpture, pottery, textiles, and performing arts such as dance, music, and theater. Classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, and Kuchipudi, with their roots in mythology and spirituality, continue to captivate audiences worldwide with their grace and elegance.
Cuisien:
Indian cuisine is as diverse as its culture, with each region boasting its own unique flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques. From the fiery curries of the south to the aromatic biryanis of the north, Indian food is a gastronomic delight that tantalizes the taste buds with its rich spices and bold flavors. Staples like rice, wheat, lentils, and vegetables form the foundation of Indian meals, which are often accompanied by chutneys, pickles, and dairy products like yogurt and paneer. Street food is also a ubiquitous part of Indian culinary
culture, offering a tantalizing array of snacks and sweets that cater to every palate.
Literature and Language:
India has a rich literary tradition dating back thousands of years, with ancient texts like the Vedas, Upanishads, and epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata shaping the cultural consciousness of the nation. Sanskrit, the classical language of ancient India, has been the vehicle for some of the world's most profound philosophical and literary works. Over the centuries, regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Punjabi have flourished, producing a wealth of literature in poetry, prose, and drama. The Indian diaspora has also made significant contributions to world literature, with writers like Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy, and Jhumpa Lahiri garnering international acclaim for their works.
Tumblr media
Modern Cultural Expressions:
While India's cultural heritage is deeply rooted in tradition and history, it is also a dynamic and evolving entity that continues to adapt and innovate in response to changing times. The advent of globalization, urbanization, and technology has ushered in new forms of cultural expression, from Bollywood films and indie music to contemporary art and fashion. Social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube have provided a platform for young Indian artists, musicians, and influencers to showcase their talents and connect with audiences around the world. Despite the challenges of modernization, India remains proud of its cultural heritage, embracing both tradition and innovation in equal measure.
Conclusion: India's cultural tapestry is a testament to the resilience, creativity, and diversity of its people. Across the length and breadth of the subcontinent, from the snow-capped Himalayas to the sun-drenched beaches of Kerala, the spirit of India's cultural heritage continues to thrive, enriching the lives of millions and inspiring generations to come. As we celebrate the vibrant mosaic of traditions, languages, and customs that make up the fabric of Indian society, let us also recognize the importance of preserving and safeguarding this invaluable legacy for future generations to cherish and embrace.

Happy STS!
What are the dietary staples of one culture/region in your word and how do they affect the geography, politics, culture, religion and/or economy?
Happy STS! Thank you so much for the question <3
For this I'm going to focus on a food that is eaten all over the world of Ersse--the dowjin berry!
Dowjin Berries
Pronunciation: dough-gin. IPA: dəʊʤɪ́n
Appearance: Medium sized berries (roughly raspberry sized) that grow in clusters (like rowan berries) on small bushes. They change from light green (like a gooseberry) through to dark red (like a cherry) as they ripen; over-ripe dowjin berries are black (like a blackcurrant).
Taste: Berries are prefectly safe to eat at all stages--the only thing that changes is the flavour profile. Green and light red dowjins (under-ripe) are sour, medium-red to dark red (ripe) are sweet, and black berries develop a bitter aftertaste.
Most popular foods
Red berries:
The Dowjin Tart is by far one of Etrios' most beloved treats. A filling of thick, natural yoghurt is baked into a pie crust and then topped with either dowjin syrup or berries (sometimes both).
They are also used as a sweet topping for savoury rice dishes (similar to a biryani or morroccan-style couscous), and as an accompaniment to salted fish and meat dishes.
These berries are also reduced to make jams, compotes, syrups...just about anything you can do to a strawberry!
Green berries:
The primary (culinary) uses of the sour dowjin is to make pickling liquids for shredded vegetables (like acar) as well as vinegar. They can also be turned into syrup, or dried and powdered to use as a spice in other dishes.
Black berries:
Over ripe dowjins are most commonly used to add an extra dimension to many sweet and savoury dishes--a sprinkle of dried black dowjin over the top of a red dowjin tart quells the sweetness for those who prefer less-sweet desserts; one or two whole berries added to a stew or curry can elevate the other ingredients.
Dried black dowjins are added to sweetened, boiled milk to make something like coffee.
Misc. uses: The berries are also used to make medicines, paints, inks, and dyes.
In different cultures:
There are two cultures that believe the red dowjin berry a bad omen.
In the desert region of mid Rotesh, far to the south of Ersse, the people are superstitous about red dowjins inviting swarms of blood scarabs; for many centuries after the last recorded swarm, all dowjin bushes in the region were dug up and burned. However, the varied medicinal, practical, and culinary applications of both the green and black dowjin encouraged the modern Roteshi of the region to reintroduce the shrub along with preventative measures for when the berries reddened: a dark, mesh-like fabric would be placed over the shrubs with ripe berries which serves a dual purpose of shielding the shrubs (and thereby the people) from blood scarabs and hastening the ripening process. Black dowjins quickly became the region's primary export.
The sun-based religion of Pholis--the sole city on the most northern continent--abhors any and all red-coloured things because of a red sun that once threw the city into chaos; red dowjins top the long list of banned items because they are also round like the sun. Dowjin bushes grow sparsely in the wild--and when they do they do not always ripen because of the frigid environment--so most of the cities black berries are imported from as far away as Rotesh.

Flasche Wasser - 0,5 EUR
Biere - 1 bis 5 EUR
Hauptspeisen - 1,60 bis 5 EUR
Reis - 1,50 bis 2 EUR
Brot - 1 bis 2 EUR
Dessert - 3 bis 4 EUR

Decoding the Indian cuisine
Indian cuisine is among the healthiest in the world thanks to the range of native foods, spices, and recipes that are found there. But recently, Indian cuisine has started to be regarded as unhealthy due to links to foods heavy in sugar and carbohydrates, which can raise cholesterol. However, traditional Indian cuisine is not only delicious but also packed with health advantages. Indian cuisine helps a number of bodily processes, including brain health, inflammation management, and immunity. The variety of Indian cuisine is its biggest draw.
Indian diet explained
Indian diet consists of a lot of grains
In India, numerous rice varieties are grown, as well as bajra, nachni, and jowar. It is regrettable that rice eating is discouraged for weight loss in the era of low-carb diets. Indian cuisine uses a variety of pulses as well. Since ancient times, dal rice and rajma rice have been common combinations in India. These mixtures make delicious protein meals that contain all the necessary amino acids.
Indian thalis
Each bowl in the traditional Indian thali is tiny in size. It consists of a few different kinds of dal, sabzi, some rice, roti, or both. A modest quantity of sweet food is also included in the thali. This thali provides a full meal by providing all necessary nutrients in the proper amounts. However, the portions of modern thalis offered in restaurants are substantially larger. The western mentality of supersizing is probably to blame for this increase in portion size in traditional Indian thalis.
Indian oils
In India, there are numerous cooking oils to choose from. Many healthy cooking oil variations are available in India, ranging from coconut oil and groundnut oil to mustard oil and peanut oil. However, the processing methods used in former periods were far healthier than those used now.
Indian salt
India was the original home of rock salt, pink salt, and black salt. But over time, we switched to a salt that was more refined, which is presumably why Indian food also started to become less healthy. Therefore, the ingredients are probably what changed Indian cuisine.
Indian curry
If prepared with the suitable ingredients and levels of oil, Indian curries are beneficial for immunity. The core cause of illnesses including diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disorders is inflammation, which the curries can reduce. The Indian curry, which is made with curry leaves, tomato, onion, black pepper, garlic, turmeric, and numerous other spices, offers many health advantages.
Wheat
Over the years, wheat in its various forms has come under a lot of scrutiny. There have been reports that wheat can cause unnecessary bloating or digestive problems among other inconveniences. However, we cannot all avoid bread and whole wheat as in our daily diet and must be consumed by many due to dietary restrictions.
Pickles and chutneys
Pickles, when made with fresh rock salt and fresh oil and ground with leafy greens and seeds make for one of the most nutritious foods you could hope to eat. In fact, the whole premise here is to declare that Indian food has always been about keeping your body and soul healthy with nourishing tasty recipes. Whether you were born in India or abroad, there is nothing more delicious than traditional Indian cuisine!
In conclusion, Indian food is high in fiber, which has a wealth of health advantages, including boosting weight loss, regulating blood sugar levels, preventing constipation, and lowering the risk of stroke or constipation.
Indian cuisine is sometimes misunderstood to be overly hot and fatty. However, when utilized properly, the colorful spices, fresh herbs, and endless combinations of flavors are a gateway to a healthy life.

headcanons: joshua & food
“love has always been the world’s best secret ingredient.”
while joshua doesn’t strictly need to eat, he loves food. he sees it as an art form, a way for people to express their passion and love, both for the food itself and for the people eating it. growing up, his parents rarely cooked for him, often forgetting to feed him at all. at the same time, mr. h would cook for him regularly, leading him to associate cooking (specifically being cooked for) with love. so while he does know how to cook, he’ll often pretend he doesn’t if he thinks it’ll lead to someone else cooking for him, and will rarely (if ever) cook alone at home now that he doesn’t need to to stay alive.
basics & general notes
joshua is a fairly adventurous eater and tends to be fine eating most things, with few things he outright hates.
his favorite flavor is umami (salty and savory) and his least favorite is bitter.
he’s not a big fan of sweet food.
he likes spicy food a lot, especially chili.
he didn’t like coffee at first, due to it being either bitter or sweet, but he drank it a lot because of his friendship with mr. h and, due to a mixture of exposure and fond associations, he grew to like it over time.
he usually likes vegetables, but not in soup.
pork is a neutral flavor.
generally likes seafood.
doesn’t like ice cream.
loves ramen.
doesn’t really like soy sauce.
going by the original game, his favorite foods are: definitivo chili dog, shio ramen, absolute shadow ramen, mushrooms, viper drink (some kind of energy drink), and sync bars (which i can only assume are absolutely disgusting energy bars that he eats like candy).

7, 11, and 28 for the asks!
7. what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?
answered here!
11. anything from your childhood you’ve held on to?
generational trauma lol
my first and only and very very beaten-up copy of the his dark materials trilogy, a dolphin plushie that i was gifted when i was 2, my love for sharks, and a lot of old sheet music and practice/lesson books from when i was in band
28. last meal on earth?
oooooooooooooooo hmmmmmm so i think i could probably only manage one bite of each of these things but:
taiwanese hotpot with sour cabbage and pork soup base (?? idk if there's another term for it. it’s like this very lightly-pickled/brined napa cabbage, absolutely not the same thing as sauerkraut, and you simmer it in the broth and it makes a really delicious and light tangy soup base for everything else you’re dunking into the hotpot)
full irish breakfast
carne asada burrito
this bougie-ass green goddess salad from sweetgreen lmao
i had this fucking incredible lamb and okra curry + chicken biryani + the best mango lassi i've ever had at this pakistani restaurant in edinburgh (lmk if you want me to dm you the place lol) and i think about it constantly so.... that entire meal
fresh, ripe, juicy mangoes. the sexiest fruit. if i'm going out, i'm going out horny for mangoes.
weirdly specific asks
