ok Worm Bigotry Breakdown in more detail for @silverflyingpikachu
tl;dr: author is Cishet White Guy From Canada In 2011. he ostensibly thinks he is progressive. this does not change his proclivity for tossing his Cishet White Guy From Canada Biases into the books and then saying even more bigoted things in defense of those writing decisions on forums. wildbow is just some cunt on the forums with bad opinions on wildbow's writing. the book is 1.7 million words long but i believe in my ability 2 categorize this shit with decent accuracy. everyone who has ever said worm's CWs can't be categorized, including wildbow himself, is a lying ass bitch. this will include some vague spoilers, because i can't really go in-depth without a few examples, but i'll stay away from anything too plot-critical.
racism:
- worm is fundamentally a book abt systems of power and the ways in which they suck. some of the critiques worm issues--e.g, its depiction of how school systems enable bullying, inspired by wildbow's own experiences w/ the school systems as a deaf kid--are viscerally accurate and incredibly compelling. but wildbow fundamentally doesn't understand how certain systems of oppression work--e.g policing--and subsequently, his attempts at depicting them occasionally fall flat onto their face and land in racist territory. this gets particularly nasty when combined w/ the White Guy Author propensity for racist stereotypes--for example, his chosen face of police brutality is a black girl portrayed as predatory & animalistic.
- who is also one of the only black people in the book overall, alongside--for example--an addict portrayed as having less interiority & being less deserving of empathy than A Literal Fucking Nazi. also, the main characters have to team up with the nazis "for the greater good" (defeating the mean asian villains) at one point. it is a mercy to the readers when this part of the story ends. - there are two black characters in the main cast. for the first, wildbow just Straight Up Forgot to include the most compelling aspect of their background + characterization in the text (it was provided via WoG instead, which i provide to all wormreaders like a fuckin' DLC patch when they get to where it's relevant) & entirely forgets they exist towards where the end of their character arc should have been. the second is introduced w/ the most misogynoiristic description on the planet but blessedly has a largely compelling and well-written arc as the book goes on. - depiction of china is just like. fox news level sinophobic "it's all a brainwashed indistinguishable evil cult" shit. not relevant for very long relatively speaking but insufferable to read. asian characters are also like. we got Brutal Yet Honorable Asian Man. we got Fiery Asian Girl With Blue Eyes. it fucking blows it's not good
- oh yeah forgot this one someone mentioned in the tags. #it's an insignificant paragraph and nobody talks about it but the part where it goes #“yeah literally EVERY cape in South America is with a cartel and the heroes are barely distinguishable from the villains” #fuck you #not that the others aren't bad the fatphobia gets really gross but nobody mentions this and that one got me so yeah typical Insufferable Awful Imperial Core Author Understanding Of What Other Countries Are Like - i could make this section one million bulletpoints long but the gist is summarized i think--wildbow's varied racist biases leak fucking everywhere, into character design, into narrative assumptions about who's deserving of interiority/empathy or not, into attempts at Saying Anything About Society, into which characters he prioritizes, into who he offers validity via the narrative, etc etc etc.
homophobia: - theres a girl named amy dallon in it and she is the worst lesbophobic stereotype ever known to man. no other Problematic Lesbian™ you can think of has anything on this girl. the worst part is that she genuinely has a decently compelling character concept and arc, which her being awful is integral to, so you might accidentally find her interesting anyway and then she'll move into your brain - wildbow kept accidentally writing characters that scan as massive dykes and then got really mad about f/f ships for the book being popular in the fandom. he responded by making a deranged forum post involving the phrase "pandering is pandering" insisting everyone (but the bisexual "hedonist") is straight and writing a scene into the book where one of the characters literally turns to the camera and tells the readers "not to get the wrong idea" about her hugging her friend. - over the course of 1.7 million words he finds excuses to loudly inform you that all of the relevant female characters are straight and it's sooo shoehorned in you can always tell when he's doing it - basically worm is like if naruto was about homoerotic teenage girls who do violent terrible things, in terms of levels of unintentional homoeroticism, and the author responds to ppl going "lmao gay" about the unintentional homoeroticism with poorly restrained seething rage
fatphobia: - generic brand of fatphobia you'll see in p much all mainstream media where only side/bg characters are fat and it's obliquely used as a descriptor to indicate that someone has negative personality traits or should be viewed as sort of gross
anti-addict shit: - wildbow generally likes writing about how social circumstances--i.e neglect from society, oppression, failure on behalf of systems--causes crime. he generally likes demonstrating the ways in which the villainous main characters are traumatized teenagers failed by society fumbling to keep existing & holding each other up through The Horrors. unfortunately all of this intelligent writing flies out the nearest window when addicts are involved. there is a gang comprised entirely of addicts, all of whom are portrayed as disgusting, violent, dangerous, and of course often racially stereotyped. it is a mercy to the readers when they're no longer relevant to the story. - on a more subtle level, characters are every so often just like. a little more anti-drug than they would realistically be and you can tell it's wildbow's opinions leaking into their characterization. this is largely what the anti-addict writing is kept to after The Addict Villains leave the story iirc.
if youre wondering wellwhy does anyone read this book then. to that i would say that unfortunately despite it all it'sa fucking excellent book. so we all carry on reading the parts that suck and thinking about how they suck and then reading the parts that fuck and going "ouuugh my god" and rolling down 20 flights of stairs about how hard they fuck.

Do you also feel that the power to make sentimonsters could have easily been another power for the butterfly and no one would have batted an eye?
I mean technically the Butterfly kinda has done sentimonsters in a sense, as some akumas do get extra outside of them to act as a means of transportation and a boost of power and it works along their agenda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Take something like Refleckdoll and you got to wonder, why is that a sentimonster and not just an add on to Refleckta? Because it acts as something for Reflckta to pilot so... why is it a sentimonster?
Tumblr media
Another factor is that sentimonsters are tied to emotions and Butterfly's power has long been tied to emotions, to a point I considered it more for Emotion than Transmission. So sentimonsters didn't really bring in anything new, aside from sentipeople which I really hate, especially the insistence that they're actually people. It kinda brings about a can of worms to question, like should a miraculous really have the power to just casually make life? Especially knowing that everything made is allve. Also if terminating that sentimonster is terminating life, does that make you a murderer? And the leads take out sentimonsters too so...
I just find it to be a really iffy power in how they went about it and how Thomas clarifies it.
I really think it would've been better for them if sentibeings (or whatever a friendlier term for them is) were just animated dolls/puppets, and depending on their creation can depend on how "alive" they are, but they're still not truly alive. They act out the role they were made for, they could be complex mentally and emotionally, but they're not truly alive. They don't need what true living things need, like eating and sleeping, nor do they fear termination, if anything may just stress about not continuing the role they were made for if it's not "done" for them. They're not flexible enough to deviate from what they were made for. And depending on the complexity of their creation and the role they're to play, they could end up quite problematic for their creator.
Like, I'm half joking and half serious of maybe thought that Lila should've been confirmed a sentibeing with all her wild lies and how everyone's IQ drops and at this point her lies are just off the walls bonkers (like seriously she's just a 13-14 yo what is going on with her???). Could be a Peacock was rivals with that ancient Fox, so made Lila in her likeness to cause her problems in her civilian life, and Lila never got dismissed so she existed on lying and being antagonistic and chaotic as that's what she was made to do and given this magical purpose, everyone is compelled to believe her and not think too hard about what she says. And she drifts to Paris drawn in by the miraculous activity, she works with HM cause he's causing chaos and may secretly plan to double cross him, she picks on Marinette as Marinette caught onto her lies, she targets Adrien cause Adrien's an easy target, ect..
Like, of all the characters to be confirmed to be a creation of the Peacock, I vote it should've been Lila cause everything with Lila is just wild. Her being this immortal gremlin and agent of chaos and made out of peer spite would make more sense than whatever is even going on with her.
Side note, this power is tied to making "life" which is form of creation, so, why isn't making sentibeings actually a Ladybug power as that's literally Creation? And can you imagine the relief Marinette could get learning that she could just make this efficient Ladybug doll that could do her job for her, she could take a break, keep the earrings safe, and just destress cause Sentibug is made to be the best LB hero out there and she's nailing.
Marinette just catches up on a week of sleep.

The thing with R/L shippers and their annoying push back when anyone brings up the super dark undertones of that relationship is that they have convinced themselves the show depiction of R/L is more or less what will happen in the books/is GRRM's intent. Which is hilarious because the people who ship R/L are almost always Dany/targ stans who think Dany breaking bad, being the final villain, and Jon/the Starks being antagonistic to her and taking her down was complete Benioff and Weiss fanfic. Which...lmao...I have a bridge to sell them.
In general, I've noticed this with the remaining book fandom, there is very much an undertone in their 'theories' and 'speculations' of 'everything I liked in the last four seasons of GOT totally came from GRRM and will totally happen in the books, and everything I didn't like was total fanfic, not Martin's intention at all, and will not happen.' Which, once again lmaooo and good luck with that!
Side note, the show depiction of R/L was hilarious. The writers had to magic away Rhaegar's marriage in one of the dumbest plot points on that show, and then attempted to magic away Elia, Rhaenys, and Aegon's existence/deaths. They also had to magic away Rickard and Brandon's existence/deaths. Gave zero explanation as to why and how and what happened between R/L. The writers really made R and L into two sociopaths who they wanted viewers to romanticize, but only the opposite ended up happening. The absolute dragging they received from the fandom was INSANE lmao.
Anyway, I think the lack of any development of R and L by the writers to the point where Jon didn't even state how he felt about their relationship might indicate that the book version Benioff and Weiss were told was problematic and they just didn't want to open up that can of worms. But instead their writing choices made R and L even more hated and worse than I think GRRM intended. Just the most hilarious writing choices.
The fact that where the first substantial introduction to the nuances of this plot was scrapped entirely tells me that Benioff and Weiss had no idea what kind of character they wanted Rhaegar to be. We don't truly see anything of the Tower of Joy until late in season 6 in some half baked Bran Greensight vision. But if they did it properly, that Tower of Joy scene should have been all the way in season 1.
Open episode 6 of season 1 with the Tower of Joy flashback as it is depicted in the books. Then slowly transition into Ned waking up in bed after his fight in the street with Jaime Lannister. That is how early in the books the seeds of that mystery were planted, but they never even begun to tackle it until the end of season 6.
Which is bizarre, beacuse they actually shot themselves in the foot already. Show Robert is so much more nuanced of a character in his book counterpart. The way he talks about Rhaegar and the way he lements a genuine heartache over Lyanna is so much more dynamic then what we got from book Robert.
What I could critizise from the books, should have been fixed in the show. They proved they could. They turned what is a pretty black and white unlikeable character in Robert to someone who is as problematic as he is tragic. He is so much more human and that should have been the perfect set up happening at the same time Ned is beginning to experience his traumatic dreams and flashbacks about Lyannas death.
That despite Roberts heartbreak, there is something so much darker then Ned is letting on that is now spiralling him into having consistent trauma reactions over it.
If this were a love story, why would Ned twenty years later be so utterly haunted by it in a way he had long since pushed down?
Also the annulment is...I don't have words for how impossible it is.
I'd literally have to make a whole separate post to explain why that annulment subplot literally could never have happened.
And like, Jon had no reaction because they did not care about using it properly. The revelation of who Jons mother is has always been about Jons personal journey with identity, and making sense the parts of his father he never understood and the sacrifices he made to protect him. It's supposed to be about Jon realizing he was never the bastard who accidentally ruined his fathers honour. It's about Jon realizing he had a mother who loved him and watched over him in their home his entire life, and that Ned Stark chose Jon to be his son all on his own.
It's about Jon learning his mother died loving him feircly begging to keep him safe, and that Jon wasn't Neds son by accident. He was Neds son by choice out of love.
But they only used it to fuel half baked drama about the Iron Throne because at that point all Jon was there to do, was act as an accesory on Danys arm. He was no longer his own character by then so of course he has no reaction. He wasn't told because it was meant to impact him. Jons secret was revealed soley to add drama to Dany's narrative.
R+L=J was never meant to be about Jon's Targaryean side. It was meant to be about Jon learning he had a mother who died protecting him, and that Ned chose to ruin his own reputation because he decided to raise and love Jon as his own.
It was supposed to be about Jon learning who his mother is, why she isn't here, and how that heals all of the hurt left behind that Jon didn't understand about Ned.
It was never supposed to be about Rhaegar or the Targaryeans.
But I mean the second I saw they aged Lyanna up to the the oldest in the show I checked out. I knew they did that beczuse they couldn't portray a 14-15 year old girl marrying a 25+ year old man without the obvious implciations of at the very least, grooming a minor.
They knew this wasn't a romance, but that is too hard of a story to tell, a forbidden romance is so much easier. It was done only out of convience. They had to do something about that mystery, and so they took the easiest route and only ever mentioned it when it pertianed to adding drama to Dany's personal narrative.

the early bird is the worm - some thoughts on Warren the Eagle
i’ve been fixating on Warren from DHMIS a lot (oh lord why did it have to be him 😭💖) and enjoying a lot of the conversation around his character, both positive and negative! so i wanted to get some thoughts down about him and see what other people think. the writers did an amazing job of portraying an instantly unlikable guy, and i want to examine that unlikability, to see what we can learn about him and his mindset:
a little bit of a recap: when Warren accuses Red Guy and Duck of being bad friends, and the two respond that it’s Yellow Guy’s fault for forgetting the password, Warren doesn’t try to defend Yellow Guy. instead, he goes on a defensive, egotistical tirade about how because he’s not ‘technically affiliated’ with the OK Stop organisation, they don’t think he knows a bad friendship when he sees one. with no prompting, Warren has inserted himself into the interpersonal troubles of another group (that he doesn’t know!!) and made himself out to be the person being attacked. Warren is not a good Samaritan. it’s got nothing to do with Yellow Guy being bullied at all - this is all a vicious ego trip for Warren, who feels persecuted by people he doesn’t even know and projects himself onto other people he perceives to be victims.  it’s fascinating, and why i feel it’s a disingenuous interpretation to assume the ‘Warren the Eagle’ name is some mean-spirited joke towards trans people - as a trans person myself, i was worried too! but i realised that it’s not literally about him not being an eagle because he doesn’t have wings - it’s because Warren is oblivious to who he is and the way he treats other people. he’s a social parasite who dresses up his problems in victim-supporting language, validating his toxic behaviours that leave the people around him exhausted and upset. Warren refuses to take accountability for his behaviour and latches onto Yellow Guy despite not having a genuine interest in him or his wellbeing. Warren just wants to be liked, and he realises that in Yellow Guy’s safe space (his brain), he can be...even if he ends up hurting Yellow Guy in the process. Warren being a worm is visual shorthand. pretty much everyone immediately had a visceral response to him and his uncomfortable, invasive behaviour, and the fact that he views himself as a creature that is so radically different from what he actually is - an eagle instead of a worm - is supposed to communicate to us that his perspective is warped to the point that he cannot (or just refuses to acknowledge) how nasty he is to others. you’ll notice that Yellow Guy’s Brain Friends - who are portrayed as a positive, healthy force - are immediately accepting of Warren’s identity and validate his thoughts without question, because they want to be supportive. they’re doing a nice thing, and it’s not played for laughs! but Warren takes advantage of that kindness, and it doesn’t take long for those friends to grow tired of his behaviour. they do the healthy thing by removing themselves from the equation.  so, yes...i like Warren as a character a lot, because i think he is a great representation of how you can’t just appropriate the language of positive mental health without doing the actual therapeutic work of unlearning your problematic behaviours. he’s equal parts stubborn and ignorant, and it seems he identifies with being an eagle less in a ‘this is a trans allegory’ sense, and more in a ‘i refuse to acknowledge that i’m being an asshole to the people around me because i am the best and everyone should cater to me.’ sense. that being said, i’m very excited to see more lore and meta and character development for Warren from the fandom! i think headcanoning him as trans is awesome - on that note, did you know that earthworms are intersex? i’m also delighted by the rise of the LoveBird ship (Shrignold/Warren) and the potential for both of them to learn to love in a way which works for them both...the dynamic is so neat 😖💖 that being said, what do you think? do you love Warren? are you indifferent? do you want him to die in a fire? i’d love to know! 🥰

Please tell me how Cleo is problematic 👀
Tumblr media
answering @daisymeade too! thank you both!
why is Cleo problematic:
oh god how much time do you have
first of all there's the whole demon thing, we all know about that
likes to start fights for fun
terrible taste in drinks, she'll drink literally anything with alcohol in it
really needs to call her mom more often
scars up irabeth before the drezen invasion, in a scene that was painful for me to play through
around that time starts getting a lot of angry destructive intrusive thoughts but doesn't mention them to anyone because it's probably fine right
ignores multiple people telling her no something like that would not be fine it would be bad actually
isn't interested in the details of ruling beyond running the military, so just kind of lets the other councils run wild and do whatever
(and she couldn't figure out why her mother didn't want her leading their tribe)
considered sleeping with Yozz because she was bored
had such a messy situationship with Galfrey that they had the world's worst breakup when they weren't even dating
said breakup may have involved both verbally and literally attacking each other
needed a rebound so she had a drunk almost-hook-up with Wenduag
killed people for Yozz no questions asked then was surprised when that was a bad idea
made Arueshalae sad
made Woljif sad
deliberately pissed off Iomedae even when she knew she needed her help
was so demonic in the Abyss that she basically broke the Hand and he couldn't be brought back even when she found his heart
spent her whole life not doing druid stuff because the studying required was boring, then got druid powers all at once by going Legend
she's so divisive that she got called "a pathetic worm" in the comments of her own fic
when she does eventually get back on better terms with her family, she babysits her cousin's kids and lets them eat waaay too much sugar
she's a mess and i love her <3
Ask me about one of my OCs and I’ll list out why they’re problematic.

Obviously it would be way too many villains to juggle and thus give justice but could you fucking imagine if they brought back ALL of the old villains for Crystalized, even the ones who were already brought back in Day of the Departed?
We know Traveler's Tea can bring back the dead from the Departed Realm. But instead of Morro, who has already proven himself to be chill, maybe the Preeminent could be brought back in his place, since she was the true villain of Possession. The Preeminent could take a smaller minifigure form, or even be a miniaturized Lego build. Her being a lot smaller is because she got weaker from being dead longer, and Pixal defeating her.
Nadakhan gets brought back and it turns out he remembers all of Skybound, just as Jay and Nya do! Or he doesn't. Jay and Nya explain to the others that there was a whole season that just got undone, and given their experiences with time travel, it's not entirely out of the question for them to accept this. Nadakhan can't grant wishes anymore because that's a huge can of worms from a writing standpoint... Maybe the Overlord used technology to limit him, knowing what he was getting into because he heard the stories of Nadakhan. Or maybe his wish-granting was lost due to Djinjago's destruction, which is what Dragons Rising did. Again this is inconsistent lore but it's Ninjago so whaddya expect.
Yang is still haunting the Temple of Airjitzu, but as a chill and reasonable ghost. Maybe he gets crystalized (can ghosts be crystalized???), brainwashing and forcing him to the Crystal King's council.
Acronix and Krux are easy to explain, in fact the way they were left in canon is just begging for them to make a comeback, because if Wu did, why not them? Tbh a part of me thinks Machia is, in some ways, a better fit for this role; She much better represents her villain faction than the Time Twins do, since she's an actual Vermillion. Maybe all three characters can represent Hands of Time; Machia was also there with the Time Twins as part of Iron Doom, so again, easy explanation. The Iron Doom falls out of the time vortex and idk gets obliterated by the impact, maybe it lands on some explosive stuff, so only the Time Twins and/or Machia make it out alive; So there's no Vermillion army or time machine to rely on.
Iron Baron somehow survived getting encased in molten metal; I dunno how but he just did. He somehow broke himself free. Maybe his mechanical arm was still functional.
Should the Omega Oni be included? It might seem redundant with the Overlord there, but he technically WAS a big arc villain. It was a very short arc by Ninjago standards but whatever. Maybe having the Omega there could be used to contrast his existence with the Overlord's, and/or explain what the Overlord's whole relation to the Dragon/Oni divide even is.
Vex is retrieved from the Never-Realm. He's probably the least justified of all the villains to bring back given he's canonically a wimp, but maybe the Overlord selects him specifically for the psychological torment it'd bring on Zane. I like to think that Zane unsettles the Overlord because while it makes sense for the First Spinjitzu Master, and later his grandson, to defeat him... By comparison, Zane is a nobody in the eyes of the Overlord, just a master of another regular element, no more special than the rest; And yet he still beat him, put the Overlord down longer than Lloyd even did. So he's scared of Zane deep down, and he's using Vex as a way to get back at him.
Unagami gets corrupted by an evil virus because the Overlord already has experience with hacking given his stint in Rebooted. Unagami might be a bit more problematic for censors because once the show starts depicting him as a literal child, it might make censors uncomfortable to have him getting beaten up under any context, even if he did re-assume his Prime Empire form.
Mammatus is... Well, he could easily be crystalized. But given how his character is a racial caricature, I wouldn't be surprised if Lego wanted to avoid touching his character anymore; I suspect he was written as an actually reasonable person to avoid unfortunate implications, even if Ninjago still ended up doing that in a different way. Tbh I wish Mammatus and the Keepers got better focus and writing, especially during Seabound, but I can understand why he'd be left out.
Kalmaar is dead, but so were the villains in Day of the Departed. To break off on a side tangent, I'm surprised the writers killed off Kalmaar, despite Crystalized and its villains-returning gimmick being right around the corner. Given Vangelis and Aspheera were merely imprisoned, it'd have been easy to just have him be imprisoned, but I guess they didn't want to bring him back? But yeah, if you can bring back the dead by opening a portal to the Departed Realm with Traveler's Tea, then that opens up for a lot of villains to come back pretty easily.
So with all of these explanations in mind, our list would include;
-Samukai
-Pythor
-Kozu
-Cryptor
-Chen
-The Preeminent
-Nadakhan
-Yang
-Acronix and Krux
-Harumi
-Iron Baron
-Omega
-Aspheera
-Vex
-Unagami
-Vangelis
-Mammatus
-Kalmaar
-The Overlord
Yeah, I left out the Mechanic and Mr. F. Mr. F was kind of a useless addition since he wasn't actually Mr. E, meaning the writers didn't bring back the dropped Echo Zane plotline. And unlike Mr. E, who had an actual presence and menace, I kinda forgot about Mr. F a lot of the time, and Harumi better represents the Sons of Garmadon. I also left out the Mechanic because he isn't really a major arc villain, just a recurring thug. Tbh I'd replace him with Soto, who could represent the first half of S2, and whose pirates are an actual existing faction with continued relevance, and even defeated Nadakhan!
Also, I’d like to think Zane’s Ice Emperor persona makes an actual dramatic return and not just as an ineffectual gag, like maybe he has to use the scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu to combat the Vengestone army, and seeing Vex again could trigger the past. It’s only for like one episode because we need Zane, but it’s a villain cameo for the arc where all the villains return.
But yeah, if we keep out Soto and Machia, that still brings us to 20 villains to juggle. Which is why this never could've happened. But I can dream, right? Writing a version of Crystalized that includes all of these characters and gives them some actual characterization and dynamics would be a Herculean feat.
(Now imagine a story that brings back all of these villains AND the ones from Dragons Rising…!)

idk if this is a good request or not but this idea has been bothering me for a long time so—
i really enjoyed your last tighnari post with the fennec hybrid darling! but then i got to reading your other hybrid posts and like… the thought of Xiao with a bird hybrid darling! it would make all that nest shit more acceptable to the darling but also kind of not because isn’t it usually the female who gets to select their mate? i feel like bird hybrid darling would be a bit more annoyed about the whole thing tbh
especially if you imagine Xiao straight up divebombing her out of the sky when she tries to escape like those vulture species you mentioned
I am so glad I got several hybrid asks, they make me so happy ahhhhh
New HC: he sometimes does (this) when he sleeps
lmaooo yes that vulture thing kills me because like... it would be equivalent to going about your day, walking down the street and getting rugby tackled into the ground by some dude
The thing is he CAN divebomb birdgirl darling because that's literally what his burst is -- imagine being on the receiving end of that, but not from the height where he just jumps and comes down, but like leaping off of a high vantage point and elbow-dropping you down through the air, poor darling... imagine the fall damage.
It's on sight too, instinctive because he just sees you from a distance, and his brain registers you as a potential mate which means it's full-on aggression from that point forward. The only proper way to go about this now is to go after you, drag you back to the inn, and from there just utilize violence to keep you there. That makes perfect sense, such is the way things are done.
...You don't seem to be too inclined to agree. Granted, part of your resistance is undoubtedly because he is a complete stranger to you -- you, who were just going about your day as per normal. A city bird, you know. Plain and simple in color/pattern, very docile. The gentle type that feeds on seeds, fruit, worms, birdmeal-stuffed bird feeders in people's yards, and the occasional handful of breadcrumbs thrown by generous humans who find the sight of you fascinating. You're used to human contact (and can speak, albeit maybe not perfectly fluent), and you're very non-aggressive.
You still fight, though, squirming with all your might as some figure appears out of nowhere, slamming weight onto your back as you were taking a mere lazy, slow ascent through the sky. You manage to squirm enough to get him off the top side of you, but he still drags you all the way down almost to the ground, before, in the blink of an eye, you find yourself a short distance away, then again, and again, high-speed movements until dragging you through a window.
At first, you cry out, a high-pitched chirping cry, thinking something has grabbed you with the intent of eating you... but instead, you're pulled into a dark, tiny room, window closed and locked behind you. He's quiet, but wide-eyed. Mammalian hybrids are far more common, see, whereas bird and reptile hybrids are much less so. The odds of encountering you were very small... so it must be fate. Yes, that makes sense. It's fate that you're supposed to be here, which means he's obligated to ensure you stay here. It's sound logic, if you ask him.
He himself is actually not a hybrid, hence he has no physical traits of anything other than a person. It's... hard to explain. There's the blood and brain of a bird somewhere in there, even if it's not externally obvious. Still, he doesn't share your wings or feathers, nor your ability to fly for suspended amounts of time, nor the, uh... desire to consume worms? None of that stuff... he can bring you some though.
And yes, darling would be pickier, which adds a new problematic element to the whole dynamic. Like, you actually DO care about nest quality. You can be all "AHEM why is this not tucked in correctly??" and he's scrambling to fix all the little errors and make it absolutely perfect. The female bird's approval of the nest is critical, after all, otherwise you won't breed.
Well, that is, provided what you've pointed out is deemed valid. Different bird species build different nests, you see. There are all sorts of different shapes and structure styles. You might think that a good nest requires woven pattern structure, but that strongly goes against his instinct so you will get a layered-style nest and you are going to like it. Even worse if you try to do part of it yourself -- some species the two work together, but in some, like his, the male builds it by himself, so he rejects any help. Your way of doing it is wrong anyway. Terrible, in fact. Any work you do with be promptly deconstructed and reconstructed the right way.
Unlike a human, you also actually do have two pretty, prominent wings sticking out of your back, each adorned with many soft feathers. They're really pretty. Yours are just a plain color -- black, white, or grey. No patterns, no exotic colors... but it doesn't matter, he likes them more that way anyway. And he can take really good care of them, preening through them in spots you yourself can't reach.
Well, for now. Until it is decided upon that it is in fact plucking time, and that you need to have quite a few removed for your own good. Just the important ones.
Poor Verr has to manage the situation after you squeal particularly loudly, assure the guests nothing bad is going on... It's quite the bizarre scene to walk in on, when she comes up to check and finds you pinned to the ground, feathers strewn all over the place. You all freeze up, there's a few seconds of the two of you blinking up at her as she looks down at you with a bewildered expression. She resolves to shut the door and forget she saw anything.
You're upset for a good while. It's very sore, a constant throbbing ache. You give him a cold shoulder silent treatment, cross your arms and pout and refuse to answer him. He already said he's sorry! And even got you nice cold wet cloths to put on the plucked spots, which are now featherless and bare patches of irritated flesh. What more do you want. Why are you being so mean? He's just trying to keep you safe. Why can't you understand that?
Oh, well. You'll have to just get used to it. The more primary downside being that, with human intelligence, he starts to think that maybe, if he keeps doing it over and over again, it'll scar over and will never grow back.

On the one hand, as a transmasc who very much enjoys piv sex and reading about it, I do like having access to fic that caters to that, but you're also absolutely right that Gomems fans almost exclusively writing piv (despite and especially when employing the "effort" fanon) is... hm. Sus at best. Like, yes, many of the authors of those fics are trans themselves, but not only is it not just them writing it, some of the dialogue is also... well. Not ideal. I've read more than one where a penis and vagina were described as like "matching" or "counterpart" to each other and I've also never, ever seen a Gomens fic (not counting "genderswapped" which I'm not even gonna discuss in detail rn but just wanna clarify doesn't inherently make you "problematic" esp if you're a lesbian but is still a can of worms) where both of them have a vagina and that's... well, noticeable for sure...
GODDD WHAT 💀💀💀 again i dont rly ever read fic and i avoid these like the plague so the weirdest i've seen is the vague mention of effort/C asking if A would prefer the other kind but i think if i saw some shit like you're describing I'd genuinely have to track down and kill op. i think the worst I've seen was C vaguely thinking he should've made the other effort instead coz that would make it simpler WHICH IS ALREADY SO??? OP HAVE YOU CONSIDERED DYING ♥ but anyway.
i didn't really have any problems with the lesbian aus where they're women the entire time but the idea that the canon characters as they are are women sometimes genuinely makes me ill especially when it's like. fanart of one of them as a man seeing the other as a woman and going all awooga googly eyed blushing like dude fuck holy shit they're literally gay . like they are gay it unironically makes me sick when ppl make art that's of them being soo super attracted to a woman like genuinely what the fuck why do you want that😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 they're gay men...... and that's to say nothing of the fucking...billions of AUs people make where only one of them is a woman 💀 like BRUH. my god. anyway.
but like all this just makes me feel really miserable which is why i always stay in my little bubble and don't interact with the fandom much at all because like. ofmd grew a fandom out of literally nothing (i remember when there were only 12 fics..........lol) sooo quickly and i saw so much horrendous shit i literally had to go full cold turkey and never look at the fandom again although that wasn't quite the same
but WOW this is a massive tangent to basically say i don't rly enjoy talking about this in depth coz it makes me feel really sad i prefer to just stick to my tiny corner and reblog gifsets and think about things that make me happy instead. yknow

so i finally read the extra I see a lot of ppl mad pressed about and go "this is why shen qingqiu is absolutely an abuse victim and binghe raped him!!"
throwin away the main story sex which is it's own can of worms and argument, it's not the one where he literally drugs him, no it's... shizun said be gentler and then just binghe didn't. that's what constitutes rape in fiction now??? honestly it's dubcon if you want to slap a problematic label on it. and I'm not sayin bingqiu isnt toxic, definitely not at a healthy point even when the story ends but. I just feel like people are graspin for straws to paint binghe as big bad evil man because shouldn't he know our very explicit means of consent in modern culture?! I'm not as caring on the antis who take their stance on shen qingqiu's nonsense because usually they make far more sense because the thing that gets me is I literally saw an exchange like "man I love it up until that point but I don't wanna throw it all away for one extra" and I'm just like. that's your tipping point? buddy it's literally just the same shit you were fed the whole time. I don't get it. why is everything else okay, but this isn't? throw the whole bag away or don't; don't eat half of it enjoying it then eat some more suddenly declaring you hate it.
but the real thing is that their dynamic strongly comes off as "if dear shizun actually wanted it to stop, it would stop". he's whiny and annoyed at best in the extra. he's not even really fightin back. "oh but the outside pressures and binghe always guilt trips him-" no, we are explicitly shown in another extra that shen qingqiu can turn him away, even if he starts wailing, even if it's sex. and you would think if he hates sex so badly with binghe, why would he in another extra again purposely initiate and say that he would gladly endure it??
as for the blood ppl are pressed about, yea it's kind of gross, but also injuries are basically nothing in this world. they're like a paper cut that just stings really badly and then heals within a day or even hour. people spew countless liters of blood and they're still around kicking next scene. in our world would anal bleeding be a very big problem? yes, yes it would. is it a problem for an immortal who can ask his friends to hit him up with spiritual juice and heal instantly? no, not at all. and I only ever recall blood twice, that being the main story scene and the wedding extra. I genuinely think the blood in this case is nothing to do with the actual story and just narrative device to play on the wedding night fetish.
and just... not only is shen qingqiu an unreliable narrator with severely tsundere tendencies, this is ultimately sung in a comedic tune. none of it is face value nor is all of it supposed to be a serious part of the story. not only is this me going "chill" but I also believe this is part of the reason why people feel justified in trying to pretzel shizun into a rape victim. because shen qingqiu is never actually giving the full picture on what's actually going on or even his on true feelings, we're left to guess to fill some parts in, and so with their own growing discomfort of the yandere binghe they signed up for, they latch onto the smallest bit of shen qingqiu rejecting him. they're obsessed specifically with the wedding extra because it's where it ends. forget how the previous shit is arguably far worse, this is where it ends. and it's not their picture perfect healthy relationship. and it bothers them so badly that they still like bingqiu. so they proclaim themselves critical, write a few essays on how it's so awful to distance themselves from the nasty bingqiu enjoyers who openly like problematic stuff and wouldn't actually care if it was rape, and then circle back around to enjoying it because they've done their moral obligation so they're now enjoying the ship in a pure and holy way.
and maybe I have a personal bone to pick because I see me and my hubby in bingqiu so much, including how everyone wants to paint him as an evil abuser despite never even meeting the man, just because we have a colourful past I'm not ashamed of. how because I'm a small and weak feminine person and because he's a large and strong masculine person. despite the fact I'm also upfront about the shit I did. like don't think heteronormativity and misogynistic ideals aren't playing a role in how binghe is always the abuser and shen qingqiu is always the victim. there's hardly ever any room for shen qingqiu is the abuser or how about they're both just two toxic clusterfucks made in heaven and hell for each other. and people just love to down play emotional control when it's shen qingqiu dishing it out, but as soon as it's binghe, the world is ending someone save shizun.
in my hot take, shen qingqiu has far more control over binghe than binghe could even dream of having over his shizun.
do I even wanna drag out the corpse of bl culture, misogyny towards women writing gay shit, or the general homophobia of how we hold gay shit to a way higher moral standard because it's already impure and immoral so there's no room for it to be down and dirty? and why are we pressed about this being our reason to throw out book 4 and not the literal slur printed on the page that was also written in the original. like the guy who says slurs is the one we're putting into the uwu baby box??? okay.
#text#mine#not tagging this anything so if it shows up in tags it does and if it doesn't it doesn't#I wish I could find that one blog I strolled that just had whiplash back snd forth between bingqiu is the worst thing ever to fanfic ideas#but also because I want to reread the posts now that I actually know what they were talkin about#like the high points of it all was just binghe has manipulated and gaslighted him into fawning all the time or smth#honestly binghe or at least bingmei is not a mastermind manipulater. he's a broken and abused child who was then tossed after being shown#his only scraps of kindness then constantly blamed and treated like a monster and chronically has his fear of abandonment triggered by guess#what. abandonment. and then of course the whole dating culture in the loose time period it's set in and how he's led to believe this is how#you treat your wife which is honestly like property. which is not helped by his shizun sharing those same ideals onto him. then you mix in#binghe has no concept of straight verses gay and literally calls shizun his wife because one is the husband and one is the wife in his mind#honestly I don't even know if binghe knows what gender is other than he's just told he's a man all his life#like yes he's fucked up and going to do fucked up shit. and you wonder why it's almost like shen qingqiu kept mentally fucking him up#like all these things I listed here are of direct consequence from how his shizun treats him and acts#give me a break on binghe is the abuser here. shen qingqiu is just getting what he's dished out. and he's fully fucking aware it.#if it's not clear I'm not arguing bingqiu is healthy. I'm arguing bingqiu is mutually toxic if not shen qingqiu holding the power.#thank you for coming to my ted talk

Reasons why I motivate myself to work on my Good Omens fanfictions:
So I can take a certain hyper popular ship everyone loves, but I despise, and tear it apart, smash it with a hammer, and set it on fire for my own entertainment. 😊 It's not like someone will do it for me.
I would say because Lady!Crowley deserves more love, but horrific things happen to her, so, I'd be a hypocrite (spoiler alert, she's fine in the end).
Anathema and Newt's family keep a raccoon named Shovels, that they dye black, and pretend is a cat.
I have four ideas put down, so far. One's an actual detective story. Two of them are crossovers with... Legion, of all things (one came to me in a dream). All involve my Antichrist OC, who wasn't supposed to have anything to do with the GO universe, until I had that damn dream.
Another motivatior - so I can work with Maxine (the Antichrist OC) more. After a long consideration, I decided to pair her up with War (in non-crossovers, in those she's with Michael), which is problematic because they're cousins (War's mother is Satan's sister)... You know, whatever. Nobody from Earth knows. It isn't anything uncommon for royalty, either. 🤣 Besides, they're both women (offspring from donors, so no biological threats), and they didn't grow up together. I just... I adore my Antichrists. They're everything to me. Max, forgive me for getting you involved in this madness of an universe, the fanfiction gods compelled me.
Honestly, my other OCs, too. Max's best friend, Cthylla (daughter of Dagon, and... You can guess. He has a habit of oversleeping), her cat Squid, Madonna Maria (a literal jackal with vile temper and a fondness for whiskey, Maxine's biological mother;), Titan the Hellhound, Agnes Device-Pulsifer, Francisco Rossi (the Second Beast, who loathes Aziraphale even more than I do, for absollutely no reason)...
Off with Pollution, Pestilence is being reinstated to his rightful place.
I'm eager to work with canon characters like War, Michael (Legion and GO version), and Hastur - all of who, I adore
I am kind of a hater in this fandom. In the end, I've realized, fanfiction must be written for oneself, not the fandom. I will not apologize for doing what I want, with characters (and their genders) in a fic. Nor for heavily focusing on my OCs (even making them the main focus - it's something that I love doing).
The only thing I do feel some guilt for? I remember Neil Gaiman saying he likes stories where women saves themselves, which I completely agree with, yet Lady Crowley gets saved by others, most of the times... I guess, she's just in situations nobody could save themselves from. Now, her healing is another can of worms maybe that could be counted as her saving herself).
Oh... I hope no one who reads this took it as me attacking them, or mocking them, for liking what I don't. I kind of sounded like someone's evil grandma, threatening to throw their favorite toys in the trash can. 🤣 I'm just writing down my thoughts in an edgy manner. Think of this as a literal angsty, but hopeful diary page.
When I said I'm a "hater", I meant I personally have a very odd, unconventional relationship with Good Omens and it's characters. It's a... "I don't like how you're portraying biblical mythology, but I will always love you". I love Neil Gaiman. I don't know anyone im the fandom anymore, but I all the hearts to them, too. I'm just the designated class contrarian. My stories, like all fanfiction, are seperate universes from canon (and I mean no disrespect to it; the fanfiction wouldn't be here if canon wasn't).
Why do I keep hurting Crowley? I don't know, my relationship with the character is very complicated also. I find him annoying, but I named my stuffed snake after him. 🐍
Why did I write this down and post it? Because I've noticed I'm more likely to get something done after I get on a barrel, and anounce I will. These stories are so fun to write... Fine, that was kind of a lie. I'm picking at Ch. 1 of the dream storyline, and it makes me want to cry.
P.S. - I didn't see season 2, and I have no intention to (though my mom is badgering me to watch it; she's also scolding me for hurting Crowley).
#diary pages#story ideas#good omens#legion#good omens fanfiction#good omens fandom#maxine frost#female!crowley#lady crowley#war#archangel michael#hastur#i don't hate the ahip because it's popular i hate it becauss...I hate it. it being popular just causes the christmas music effect#self motivation#seriously no hate to anyone I'm just making myself entertainment in my own egdy way#it all started from a dream and I took that as a sign#but I'm hesistant to work on it because it's so heavy#it deals with dv implied sa and other topics that affect me very badly#but it's one of the stories where crowley saves herself in the end#aziraphale i don't portray in a good light because I don't like him (i couldn't tell you why)#gabriel though he is fucking DESPICABLE (he's the one who hurts Crowley btw)#archangel michael x the antichrist#crowley ends up with hastur most of the time... he never intends on falling for her but ends up at the wrong place at the wrong time#i'm giving satan a different faceclaim than benedic cu-... I'll refrain from attempting to spell it#in the crossovers adam doesn't exists in the non-crossovers he and maxine are biologically half-siblings#he doesn't partake in divine nonsense anymore because he's disowned by Satan but he and Maxine have a relationship - he makes an appearannce#max doesn't want the apocalypse either but goes about it differently - i guess playing the family mediator made her a perfct diplomat#maxine x michael#maxine x war#max is a rrising star politician and cthylla revoliutionized hell with demomic magic run technology

Hi, I just want to clarify that I don't mean this as an accusation but as an honest question; but when you and others on your posts are talking about narrative bigotry in Worm you talk about the racism and homophobia (which I agree with) but you also talk about fatphobia/fat characters being universally handled poorly, and I would love a breakdown as to why this is. With regards to Piggot when she was initially introduced I was thinking from how the heroes thought about her in their POV chapters that she was going to be the fatphobic stereotype of "soft and uncool but mean/unpleasant, disgusting fat civilian who doesn't know real courage and heroism like the thin, attractive heroes", and was pleasantly surprised when she got a lot more nuance than that, and also turned out to be very courageous and militaristic in contrast to the stereotype of "fat = cowardly and doesn't know real survival", with her flaws more lying in how she goes too far in that direction. In general the problem I typically see with how I see fat characters represented isn't just that they have flaws, but that they are never allowed to be "cool". They might be laughably dumb or they might be smart, but in a "loser nerd" way, never in a "clever scheming competent leader" kind of way. If they are negative/mean/evil characters, the emphasis is always on their venal, base qualities like gluttony, greed, and just being a jerk, they are never an "evil is cool" character with flaws like pride or a philosophy that is thoughtful and intended well but goes too far. So in that respect I thought Piggot was well-written, well besides. being literally named Piggot which is cringe but I could excuse as setting up the expectation of a stereotype to later support. And the only other character I remember being described as fat, Gregor the Snail, I have no memory of being any kind of problematic stereotype, though I don't remember him and his chapter that well either. So could you explain why Worm writes fat people badly/fatphobically?
this took way too long to answer because it's like. Well it's a simple answer but also this is a very long ask. so there's more to unpack. the short answer is just that literally, like, virtually 99.99% of the times a fat character or someone being fat is mentioned in literally any wildbow novel it's with palpable disgust. regardless of who the narrator is. it's obvious even with taylor but pact really hammers this home because blake is characterized in a way that indicates he should never be randomly judging someone's weight or appearance and he's still constantly written as observing whether or not someone is "fat." and it's in italics, like it's a slur or some grievous insult. like we're not even at the point of being able to analyze how wildbow writes specific fat characters here due to there are almost none of them and anytime fatness is mentioned it's in the context of it being stated in the same tone as if the narrator was observing someone picking their nose and eating it. like the loathing is Palpable. pay attention to how the phrases "fat" or "obese" or "morbidly obese" are used the next time you're reading a wildbow novel. you'll see what i mean.
as for the specific characters it's like. i think this post has everything icould think to say about gregor already in it, which as you will see is not very strongly opinionated. i mention piggot in it also. i don't remember enough abt either to just wax abt them at length but fundamentally it's that there's nothing particularly Strongly Good about either of them--not doing the "soft lazy uncool glutton" schtick is, like, bare minimum, and neither of them are very far above the bare minimum, and they're in a story that consistently does infinitely less than the bare minimum. there's gonna need to be more than a fat character Having Characterization before we can say that worm isn't wildly fatphobic

Things I Have Been Spoiled/Told About Twig
And how much doubt I have in them being true, expressed as a number of question marks:
Sy pulls a 'what would jesus do' replacing jesus with his former friend group so hard he has to deal with them talking in his head like imaginary friends? Only one question mark, fairly certain that's how it goes.
Sy imagines some church dude(?) as a girl and immedeatly thinks they would be hot. I saw this on tumblr but I don't recall if it was church guy or mad scientist guy that made him but I'm fairly certain it was one of them.
Sy urinary tract infection????? No idea if this was twigblr trying to pull a fast one/goncharov or if it actually happens.
Jamie trans (no question marks), wildbow doesn't completely fuck that part of the story up?? Two question marks I'll believe it when I see it considering...
Lesbian sex scene that fails the bechdel test? I highly doubt wildbow writes an actual sex scene 'onscreen' so to speak but I believe he could flub it to that degree, considering...
Twig contains the most fucked up lesbians wildbow ever wrote, and they get listed/retconned as 'good lesbians' in some reddit/discord comment later on to try and say he's not being homophobic on purpose, honest. Only question mark here is on where on the scale they fall, I seriously doubt they are somehow more problematic than Amy.
Gordon zombie? Only one because I'm pretty sure this is real but not like, literal back from the dead/stitched but like, he stops working and starts shambling or something idk.
Sy leaves the team (no question marks), and the replacement wyvern experiment is a girl??? I refuse to believe this is true considering I have seen NO fanart and the fandom that adores fucked up evil girls would not let a female Sy go undrawn.
Wildbow somehow manages to rein himself in and not do a big blowout world-at-stake multidimensional ending (twig never really reaches those high stakes?) and it's probably the happiest ending for a given definition of happy? Heard this going around before Pale ended so we'll see if that holds up.
Some shit goes down (timeskip?) and everyone just wants early scooby doo monster of the week hijinks with the team back because of some Event or Circumstances that I have yet to be spoiled about the specifics of. If twig fanfiction was prevalent as worm fanfiction it would be the leviathan that kills stories because no one wants to write about the after.

Usual disclaimer, this is going to be about build, just skip it if it could trigger or hurt you in any way shape or form
what i am seeing today is again double standards. i’m not gonna justify anything build said in those chats because obviously he got some major issue and i think we all know this. He’s problematic, always has been and always will be, and I think those who decided to stick with him should do that with this in mind and stopping the attempt to portray him as this pure angel because he’s everything but that. what’s actually irking me is the response to this new shitshow. I remember clearly the collective outraged outcry when he leaked that phone call because it was private and omg he’s the worst for doing that, but let me remind you that p*i (because it’s her doing once again), after toeing the line of revenge porn last month, is now taking his privacy away. Like those were private chats and were maybe supposed to stay like that considering that in the whole framework of events involving the two of them those had zero relevancy. The only reason literally a year old chat is coming out today is because she saw his projects were actually doing well and she won’t accept that, it’s as simple as that. I’m also pretty sure that if this had happened to literally anyone else the response would’ve been totally different, but that’s another can of worms i’m not getting into because it would mean digging up shit and i have literally zero energy to waste on this.
i’m very much over the whole kp cast and boc constant dramas, the only thing linking me to them is vegaspete (and even that is kinda losing its appeal) but let’s call things with their names: double standards. I just hope those who are taking part in the online lynch mob once again know what they’re doing because the risk of this taking the worst turn is literally behind the corner

My brain out of nowhere: Hey, remember how you've always wanted to like this one character from really famous books by an author who literally hates that you exist and ranted against language that includes you in discussions of bodies like yours? And how you stumbled on fanfic about him and had Feelings that were inexplicable to you back when you knew nothing about fictionkin?
Me: Uh... Yeah...
My brain: You should, like, pirate the movies so you can see if he's one of your fictotypes. Even though you never really got that into them when your mom tried to get you to enjoy the content well before the problematic stuff really came to light (and not recognizing some of the issues with the actual content itself but that's a whole other can of worms, the author is kind of terrible).
Me: No! Fuck off, I'm not doing this!
We'll see how long that lasts but now I have to live with the fact that I'm kinsidering a character from content made by a TERF. So that's... A Thing, especially when I'm transmasc. If the kin gods have a sense of humor, I was FtM then too and my parents only accepted me because of misogyny or because they didn't care enough to be bigots (because they weren't good parents from what I know) if I kinfirm this character.

for the ship game:
beckett/sascha
mina/jonathan
nines/lacroix
vykos/holzmann (aka Double Sascha)
[ship it or don't ship it meme]
Well that's a solid 'ship it' for all four. Let's go through 'em!
Beckett/Sascha
What made you ship it?
Literally, this exact passage.
Tumblr media
Like yes okay funny haha 'hate fuck it out' and all but this passage is the bit that made me go, "Oh. They're parallels."
What are your favourite things about the ship?
They work so well together. Not just as a character dynamic, but in-universe. Once they stop trying to murder each other, they just click, and Drowning of Rasputin showcases that beautifully. They have shared passions but different approaches that coordinate extremely well, where Sascha gets Beckett to maybe act a little more analytically and Beckett gets Sascha to, um, not turn people inside out.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Super not a fan of the like... pre-Dracon-extraction stuff where it's still extremely unhealthy, like I have seen some ship content that was still very much 'enemies' and not so much 'enemies to lovers'. Like I feel Beckett saw enough in Dracon!Sascha to save their unlife in Constantinople, but I can't see an actual relationship starting until they get through that.
Mina/Jonathan
What made you ship it?
Jonathan went from "I should get this recipe for Mina! :D" to "I would condemn myself to hell for Mina". Mina went from "My fiance wrote to me *dokis*" to "My husband is a goddamn beast *eyes emoji*". They protect each other, they look after each other, and they complement each other. They both have this really cool dichotomy of being both Very Victorian and also Very GNC And Also Sometimes Feral. They're both fantastic characters in how they're written and fantastic people in that I would 100% love to be friends with them. And they love each other and are devoted to each other with the force of a thousand suns and it'd be exceedingly hard not to super love both characters and also not come out of it loving their relationship, too.
tl;dr I took one look at how in love these dorks were and decided I was in love with their love.
What are your favourite things about the ship?
Oh, uh, I think I covered that above tbh XD
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Don't think so! They're not a main ship so I'm not as hooked in to the fandom, though, so I'm not 100% sure what the unpopular opinions are.
Nines/LaCroix
What made you ship it?
Played Bloodlines. Nines was my favourite, LaCroix managed to worm his way into problematic favourite. Peered with interest at some fics on AO3 and realised I had promptly lost my mind and read basically everything on there and then I was just in way too deep.
IIRC it was We Don't Have To Like Each Other To Survive This by @iravaid that made me go, "Fuck it, I ship it."
What are your favourite things about the ship?
They're absolutely brilliant foils. Camarilla Ventrue Prince vs Anarch Brujah street prince. LaCroix has authority on paper but no respect. He's Prince of the city and he's so alone up there in his tower. Nines doesn't want on-paper authority, and so rejects the title of Baron. He wants to be a part of the community, and for the most part, he absolutely is. He has, quite naturally, the respect that LaCroix wants, just not the on-paper power to enact his desires. They each want or need what the other has. If they worked together? Damn, LA's enemies wouldn't stand a goddamn chance.
Ira has a really good post on how they work as foils here.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Mmm not a fan of the non-consensual stuff but that's a disclaimer I have to give for any enemies-to-lovers ship, really XD;;
Vykos/Holzmann
Context: Sascha Holzmann is an OC based on a single sentence in Transylvania Chronicles II of Myca renaming themself after a fallen comrade who died fighting the Camarilla. You can read the bio I wrote for him here; the line from TCII is:
Tumblr media
What made you ship it?
That little line from TCII. Myca is a walking clusterfuck of identity issues at that point. For them to take their entire name from someone means they must have been incredibly special to them, and that... stands out a lot. A lot of people must have died in that time. What makes this guy special?
What are your favourite things about the ship?
Rambled a fair bit on how I see them together in the bio/write-up linked above. With the caveat that lmao this is 100% a canon/OC ship... mostly it's the quiet support Sascha gives Myca? Myca has been Dracon!Myca for two and a half centuries at this point and I feel they no longer had much of a sense of identity of their own, and Sascha gave them the space to just... exist for a bit. No prying, no trying to Work Things Through, just being there.
Add on his values and what he stood for, wanting that freedom from manipulation, and I can see Myca seeing Sascha as... almost as an ideal? Someone who is free, who can act on their passions and values, who can advocate for themself as an individual, something Myca feels is no longer possible (based on @solivar's line in this phenomenal write-up: "I could not even pretend to be a self-willed child of Desire when my will was manifestly not nor could it ever again wholly be my own.") So the relationship they have, and taking his name afterwards, is a gesture of, "I'm intentionally and deliberately going to take his name as a way to represent his values, because those are values I want and need for myself."
I don't know, it's just a really interesting little tidbit from TCII that could spawn a whole lot of interesting stuff. The original Sascha had to have been so significant to Myca if they took his name, y'know?
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
lmao no because I made it up entirely.
