#read pjo again cowards

I'm v curious to see how the pjo show will portray Percabeth and Percy's feelings for her throughout the show.

cause imo, in the books Percy straight up doesn't even realize he has feelings for her until much muuuuuch later (whether it be oblivion or denial), but in like book 3 he's so worried for her he's starting fights with god's. she's literally all he thinks about in the Titans Curse, but never in a romantic way. Percy never thinks about her in a romantic way till probably book 4, when she kisses him, and even then it's a rare occurrence until book 5.

we just knew he had feelings cause he'd think stuff like "wow she's beautiful," or prints out a picture of her and keeps it with him, or constantly thinks about her when Rachel was around, or think Aphrodite looked like her. ACTIONS wise I know exactly why Annabeth was yelling at him by book 5. he never showed romantic feelings for her outwardly except for rare occasions that could be interupted as friends, even when she kissed him. not until, again, book 5 when he asks for a good luck kiss and literally screams at everyone not to touch her when she's injured.

anyway, so I'm interested to see how they're going to display it for the viewers on the screen when we won't have Percy's narration telling us obvious things that show us he loves her. I'm wondering if they're going to be more straight forward with it. in the books you knew Percy liked her but again only because of his thoughts, and not until book 3 tbh. but in the show s1 already had so much implied Percabeth. like Percy looked at her so many times like he wanted to marry her right then and there that is was shocking to me (not complaining) cause Percy really only acted like he saw her as a friend by that point in the books.

SO I wonder if they're going to continue this trend of just having Percy look at Annabeth longingly a lot and hope those who haven't read the books catch on, or will they go a step further and having him talk to people about his feelings? will Percy talk to Grover about her? in the books they would never, Percy didn't even know Grover had a girlfriend at one point. they weren't the type of bromance to talk about their feelings. however TV show Grover and Percy would easily talk about their feelings. they're more open and vulnerable around each other in the show.

and if they do that, then are they going to make it canon (canon to me is if Percy knew he had feelings for Annabeth before book 4 of 5 and said it himself. he never says he has feelings, and even talks about his feelings for other characters like Calypso and Rachel, so to me its not canon that he did know unless he said those words himself) that Percy is aware of his feelings before book 5?? or are they just gonna have scenes like in s1 with Luke where he calls them an old married couple and Percy and Annabeth ignore it. I could also see Grover just teasing him about her and Percy just acts like he never even thought about it

idk I'm really interested on how they're going to show us in TV form. half of me wants it to stay canon, but the other part of me wants to see a Percy verbally attest that he likes her but she'd never like him like that - or say something like Annabeth was too good for him (which I always got the feelings was half the reason why Percy didn't pursue anything till much later). even after Annabeth kisses him he's like "as friends???? hmmm???" and I truly do no think until she yells at him for being a coward that it occurs to Percy that "Oh, that WASN'T a good luck kiss then." like he WANTED to kiss her but he didn't think she liked him like that EVEN AFTER SHE KISSED HIM. sigh. sweet, dumn Percy. how I love thee.

but show Percy really isn't as a dumb as book Percy was in the first book, so there's a huge possibility they'll make it more obvious. I feel like for the sake of wanting fans invested in the ship, they'll make him more aware of his feelings imo. they already did so in s1, and book 1 truly was just Annabeth and Percy learning to be friends.

no matter what, I cannot wait for s3, because I would do anything to see Walker act out Percy worried about Annabeth. PERCY TRYING TO FIGHT MR. D CAUSE HES NOT WORRIED ENOUGH FOR ANNABETH???? I literally cannot wait.

Jason is flat on his bed, drumming his fingers on his chest and wiggling his toes. He stares upwards, losing himself in the marble smoothness of the cabin’s ceiling. The cabin seems to be devoid of any warmth, the marble walls sucking in all the sunlight streaming in from the central oculus.

When Leo was discharged, Jason couldn’t look at him. All he could remember when seeing his best friend were images he never wants to see again. 

Leo saying he loved them. Leo throwing himself into the sky. Leo lying broken in an infirmary bed, almost his entire body covered in bandages, and cuts riddling his face.

So, now, he’s hiding in the Zeus cabin. Like a coward.

A gentle knock shakes him out of his thoughts. Jason doesn’t get up, only craning his head upwards to see who it is before falling back onto his pillow.

So I just found your blog and had a lot of fun scrolling through all the pjo show crit😂 I couldn't help but notice that one tag you left on a post where you said you had some beef with Annabeth's portrayal in the books 👀 Would you mind elaborating on that if you're comfortable with it🙈? Because I absolutely share that sentiment, but it's sooo veeeery rare that I see other people express anything like it... I've found that trying to be a part of the fandom can be pretty alienating most of the time, if you're not exactly the biggest most devoted Percabeth shipper...😅 And often any criticism leveled at Annabeth just gets you a smack with the "internalized-misogyny" hammer... it's even worse in the tv show now due to... obvious reasons...

Again just if you're comfortable with answering of course🙈 There is a reason I stayed on anon after all...😅😂

Really glad you asked because i finally get to ramble about this heheheh (going forward, know that i skimmed over The Last Olympian to have a clearer sense of what I meant because that's the book where Rick fumbles her character more than the others)

i'm gonna try to make as much sense as possible but short answer would be, she's underdeveloped. Long answer:

She really got on my nerves in the last two books, with the whole Rachel debacle and then the Battle of New York. I can't really remember a single moment in those books where she and Percy aren't bickering or having heated discussions, which really made me question their friendship status. Of course, it's not like friends can't fight and it obviously builds up the (romantic) tension between them, but it got unbearable at one point.

I understand she's a teenager in an incredibly stressful situation that didn't even get to have a normal upbringing- she grew up way too fast (run away at 7, head counselor at 12) while also not really maturing, which is not a problem for a character, if it is handled properly. Given the fact that I am writing this, Riordan did not.

On the surface, my biggest beef is that Annabeth is not exactly held accountable for her actions (ie. treating Rachel a bit like shit and going off on Percy for a bunch of stuff.) I know Percy is to blame a bit here: as far as we know, in TLO he basically cuts the greek world out of his life as much as he can as a coping mechanism. And while yes, he never apologizes either, he doesn't give her nearly half the hard time she gives him: always either giving him the cold shoulder (there must be at least one example of this in the entire series but i cant be bothered to look it up sorry) or starting an argument only to then storm off (see the "you're a coward, Percy Jackson!" scene, which is not the fairest example since she was confronting Percy about ignoring camp but also was a bit too harsh about it) (especially after finally reading the prophecy and being under the impression that he was absolutely going to die when he turned 16 lmao) or just straight up storming off (see, Annabeth reacting when Rachel shows up for the first time during the battle of new york). While most of these feel, at least to some degree, fairly justified given how the entire situation does an absolute number on her emotions, she comes off a bit brattish and like she's trying to rile Percy up, especially when it comes to Rachel, which in the context of a battle that could mean the destruction of the world.... Well, it reads as a bit childish to me, and i wouldn't exactly have that much of a problem with it if it was dealt with in some way (a two-way apology would be nice).

After that first impression, i realized that Annabeth is barely ever anything else other than a plot device (when relating to Luke) or a love interest (when relating to Percy). This might be because the books are on Percy's POV. Hell, on the third book he's even conflicted when Annabeth is considering joining the Hunters of Artemis, aka, when making a choice for herself would mean he loses her (which is fine and dandy but it feels like Percy is more upset about her choosing her own path rather than being sad about not seeing her as often); we really only get a few glimpses of her, as in, actually her when she's on her own.

Obviously it's impossible to talk about Annabeth without touching on percabeth, which also is, in my opinion, what hinders Annabeth's character the most. On paper they sound great. The guy whose fatal flaw is loyalty falls in love with a girl whose been let down by people over and over, and she decides to never give up on the boy whose always had people give up on him (can't find one of the million posts that talks about this right now but it always goes something like that) And yeah, the bickering is really well written! But that's literally as far as it ever goes: they don't ever seem to have fun together, because 8 times out of 10 the bickering ends up being passive aggressive, and mostly done by Annabeth. My biggest gripe about percabeth is that their friendship seems to be based off... shared trauma. Literally. Other than going on quests together we are given no examples of them hanging out, nor a reason why they would want to spend time together in the first place, not even a shared hobby. Yes, in the fourth book they had a movie "date" planned but of course they didn't even get to it, and surprise surprise, they had a minor discussion, and surprise surprise, Annabeth was passive aggressive again. It's hard to picture them having fun together when even the author doesn't write in any scenes in which they get along smoothly (and before you say anything, a scene in which they get along where neither of them is about to die, and they're not talking about previous adventures. Gets a bit hard then, doesn't it?) It's even harder to picture them as a couple when the moment she gets upset about something, she starts coming off as emotionally manipulative (see, again, literally any conversation with Rachel or about Rachel)

To be fair, the books are relatively short and don't allow many "filler" chapters, if you will; there's always something happening to keep the main plot or a minor plot point moving forward, but it's not like there is no room to develop the characters' relationships, especially when we're talking about the main char and what is essentially his endgame. As an example we have Percy and Clarisse, or Percy and Beckendorf. Their interactions are brief but still hold so much weight.

Worst of all, Annabeth could be one hell of a character; what's most interesting of all is how being a daughter of Athena she is still incredibly emotionally driven, which is displayed very clearly with her fatal flaw being pride: her telling the Sphynx that her questions were too easy was not smart nor strategic: it was completely impulsive. I seriously think she wasn't far from being the best character in the series had she been given more time.

I guess i have as much beef with Annabeth as i have with Rick for doing her dirty. I really could sum this up with: while her emotions are justified, she acts upon them quite poorly. And this is what i mean when i say she's underdeveloped, because it would've been nice to see her come to her senses a bit.

Would love to read anyone's opinions on her character though, feel free to comment, even (or especially) if you don't agree with me!

My gender headcanons for the Pjo/Hoo cast

Percy:Transfem and if you think otherwise,then (not) sorry but you're wrong.She's SUCH a girl,everything about her screams it but the first example that pops into my mind is how her feelings towards Annabeth read less like she's in love with her and more like she's confusing gender envy for attraction.Bigender as well,her other gender being demiboy and as she gets older,she starts using she/he/they pronouns and presenting femininely.She's very nervous about going on estrogen but cries tears of happiness when she sees how it affects her for the first time.On a funny note,since she's such a mom friend towards Nico and Hazel,Leo jokingly calls her a milf

People Vecna would curse in other universes!

To be clear the people Vecna cursed all had guilt complexes. Max felt bad about Billy, Chrissy felt bad about the guy whose mouth was fucking SEWED TOGETHER by her MOTHER, the nerd guy (I forgot his name, I'm sorry!) felt bad for not doing anything to help that guy from the burning car, and Lucas' friend (I know I'm a terrible person) was probably abused into thinking something he did was his fault. Like his grades as we heard from his thoughts Vecna was reading.

And I have thought about this, like actually thought about this. A lot.

PJO:

Will. A healer. Like a healer comes with the burden of trying to help everyone but you can't help everyone and sometimes people die and he's been doing this since he was a child?! Hello?! Leo. Was literally blamed by his aunt for his mother's death, even though he was EIGHT, and people who he showed his powers to called him a freak and felt guilty because he thinks Percy and Annabeth falling into Tartarus was his fault. Percy. Probably feels guilty about Beckendorf and Luke and Selina and Micheal and Bianca and a lot of people who died during the Titan war and scaring Annabeth while in Tatarus. And Hazel. Feels guilty about ACCIDENTLY waking up Gaea again and Sammy's and Leos death! 😀

Amity. Felt guilty about being a jerk to Willow for a while and thinking she's weak and a coward for not being able to stand up to her mom. (Me too Amity. Me too.) Luz. Do I even have to say it? Lilith. Cursed Eda which caused her to accidentally hurt their dad. And Hunter. Probably feels guilty about all the people who were petrified because he was following the wrong person.

my biggest problem with the pjo tv show is that percy, annabeth, and grover have no individual characteristics except percy is funny, annabeth is mean, and grover is a coward. the series relies heavily on the watcher having read the books to know that percy is loyal and a great fighter (and a mammas boy because don't even get me started on sally in the show), that annabeth is smart and cares about percy, and the grover would do anything to fulfill his duty as a protector

we're told again and again that annabeth is the pride of athena and that she's the most brilliant demigod of their generation, but she never does anything in the show to prove that. maybe when she and percy are trying to get into the amusement park, she talks about the mechanism to scare them, but then her advice is just for percy to keep going?

the kids have such a great dynamic, but in almost every conversation they have, you could chance who is saying each line of dialogue because there is no individuality in what they say

BOOK 4, BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH LLAMALAD REVIEW

Ok first HELLO?!?!?!? I HAVENT DONE SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN FOREVER?!?! Now thanks to my new aztec mythology storyline I've decided to dive back into the pjo series and finish book four. I finally have the time to do so, AND NOW I GET EVEN MORE STUFF TO READ I GOT 5 MORE BOOKS AFTER THIS ONE, THEN THE SUN AND THE STAR, THEN THAT OTHER ONE!! (I forgor the name) NOT TO MENTION THE NEW SERIES COMING UP!!! so excited rn!! Alrighty let's get onto the review. THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS BTW

EVENTS MAY BE OUT OF ORDER DUE TO ADHD RAMBLING

OK SO THE BEGINNING SEEMED PRETTY NORMAL. always like seeing capture the flag, very fun!! Im a certified hater of the saytrs that were dissing grover, they can go like, fall in a hole or something.

Possible jail break with a coward dude with 100 hands?!?!?! Also woman with like a bunch of dragon and other animal heads that's also pretty cool. Comparing these designs to aztec monsters is very silly lol

Skipping to when they finally get into the laberynth, HERA IS VERY SUSPICIOUS I DON'T LIKE HER, but like then again maybe she's just on edge cuz Zeus cheated on her like half a million times. So what do I know.

Sphinx scene was very silly, sphinx is bbg, she is one of my favorite monsters cuz she reminded me of nepeta from homestuck.

Percy getting blown up by a volcano filled with silly little feral creatures is also pretty standard, then getting saved by some garden person. Her name was calypso, very nice name!! Her character was also refreshing.

Fight with that other one son of poseidon was also very cool, but i was too busy feeling bad about Annabeth and her interaction with Luke. Buuuut- ANNABETH STOP CRYING OVER HIM IK HES LIKE A SIBLING TO YOU BUT GET OVER IT HES EVIL NOW!!!!

Stupid little creature eyepatch demi god literally running as soon as they free him, mf is NOT greatful. Smh. IDC IF YOURE THE CHILD OF THE REVENGE GOD OR WHATEVER GET OVER IT YOU EDGELORD!!! speaking of edgelords, NICO STOP TALKING TO DRUG DEALER GHOSTS WHO HOLD YOUR DEAD SISTER OVER YOUR HEAD STOP!!

Speaking of nico when he got held hostage by that other guy previously and percy had to talk to those freaky flesh eating horses, those monsters were pretty neat. Like carnivorous horses seem like an awesome creature design. 10/10 would fight for my life.

Ok NEXT I must say the pet hell hound is literally adorable I love her sm TOO BAD HER OWNER KILLED HIMSELF jk nico killed him kinda BUT STILL. that battle at the end was REALLT COOL. Nico using his epic powers, tyson being tyson, and horse man shooting arrows epically?!?!?! and THE ANGST. I literally almost cried again when one of the only two dionysus children DIED. like BRO WHY THEM??? WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM A NAME, THAT MADE IT WORSE, AND THE FACT THAT DIONYSUS ACTUALLY CARED AND PROBABLY GRIEVED FOR HIS SON.

Ok I think I covered the main parts, finally after this and after the death ceremonies, Annabeth being annoying, and nico being emo again and leaving, percy went home for his birthday. As you can see, I like pjo. And a lot of different fandoms like Renegades, Worm, Warrior Cats (my childhood), Hunger Games (though I only saw the movies, shame on me :) and Aru Shah.

nico is just a different character in pjo than he is in hoo.

i love pjo!nico. the struggle of fantasy (mythomagic, nico's view of the demigod world) vs reality ('mythology,' the reality of being a demigod), the themes of death and coming to terms with death while having a certain amount of power over death. in a world where demigods are the people who don't belong, nico being a kid that doesn't belong even more (hades not having a cabin, the other campers' avoidance or fear of him). grief, forgiveness, friendship. nico pushing people away, especially percy, nico changing from hero worship to understand that even demigods are just human and mortal, and nico accepting other people (accepting percy's friendship) and being accepted himself...

in hoo and beyond i think his story just gets lost, like a lot of other characters do. hoo in general doesn't have the same strength that pjo does - not that every story has to have 'deep' or particularly 'meaningful' themes per se, but pjo grapples with power, mortality. the flaws of gods, humanity. and a lot more. i know we're going really broad, but hoo doesn't deal with any of that. as a consequence nico's character just falls flat for me, because i don't feel that hoo deals with him with the same complexity and interest pjo does.

also, nico being gay. hmm. i have a lot of thoughts about rick and representation (and a good few of them are not great, even if a lot of younger fans sing his praises), and solangelo. now i think nico being gay overall is fine. i think it could add another layer to him when examined through the lens of pjo, and there were plenty of people who thought that way in fandom. but what it felt like to me when written in canon was rick making the decision, and making pjo support the idea retroactively. of course, that is speculation bc i can't 100% confidently say that's true. i don't mean to say that nico shouldn't be gay, but i don't think it was written well.

solangelo also felt like a shoe-in. rick has this thing about pairing characters up for their happy endings. solangelo is a hot mess, it's not compelling, and if we do accept nico's feelings about percy it gets reduced to a joke. nico's character swings from repression and struggling with himself to skipping off with will. i make it no secret i don't like canon solangelo, and the relationship being lgbt doesn't mean it's good. it's flat and boring. also the resolution to nico's 'arc' in hoo doesn't have to be that he ends up in a relationship.

take what i said about the above with a little grain of salt. every person’s opinion is different, some people really love solangelo and that arc of nico’s. i don’t think it’s wrong to like it or that you shouldn’t. but i didn’t, myself. it could have been written a lot better lol

hoo also contradicts like... all of nico's character growth from pjo, and repeats conflicts that were previously resolved instead of expanding or continuing them in interesting ways, or creating new ones that actually make sense.

one of nico's conflicts in hoo was not being accepted and feeling like he doesn't belong anywhere. particularly because of the exclusion of children of pluto by camp jupiter and their fear of him. like i mentioned earlier this was already addressed in the original series. in botl, nico tells percy that he doesn't belong at camp, that people are afraid of him, and ultimately chooses to leave to find his own path. at the end of tlo, nico is welcomed by the other campers. he proves percy's point to the gods, and percy pushes for nico and hades to be accepted by the other gods and demigods.

Only the dead respect me, and they only do that out of fear.” “You could be accepted,” I said. “You could have friends at camp.” He stared at me. “Do you really believe that, Percy?”

Nico sat at the main table with Chiron and Mr. D, and nobody seemed to think this was out of place. Everybody was patting Nico on the back, complimenting him on his fighting. Even the Ares kids seemed to think he was pretty cool.

all of that aside, here is a core issue: nico, the doors of death, and his choices. when you really look at it, what happens in hoo is a "fuck you" to nico's character in pjo.

let's recap:

in son of neptune, it's revealed that hazel was brought back by nico. not just that, though... nico was searching for bianca, who he hoped he could bring back. the reason he didn't was because he couldn't - she chose to be reborn to avoid just that.

but nico wouldn't have done that. nico attempting to, and arguably nico bringing back hazel, goes against all of his growth and character in botl.

this isn't the first time nico tried bringing back bianca. his main goal in battle of the labyrinth was to find daedalus to trade his soul for bianca's.

“I was hoping you would give up.” “Give up?” [Nico] sounded heartbroken. “How can you say that? I’m trying to save you!” “You can’t, Nico. Don’t do this. Percy is right.” “No! He let you die! He’s not your friend.”

in the labyrinth, percy confronts nico and reveals nico is looking for daedalus to trade his soul for bianca's. but when they find daedalus, when daedalus accepts his own death... nico chooses not to.

That is all we can do, isn’t it?” He looked straight at Nico, and Nico’s face darkened. “Yes,” he said. “Will you take my soul for ransom, then?” Daedalus asked. “You could use it to reclaim your sister.” “No,” Nico said. “I will help you release your spirit. Hey, I’m already warning that it’s Angst! So, what would Nico, or even most of Camps and Percy’s family and friends do if Percy die? This after the Giant War and he dies in a quest. What would they do?

I know this is a weird question but I need to know! I’m writing a story about this. But I wanted to know your opinion since your PJO stories inspire me to write!

Well, first of all, I'm very flattered that I spird you to write and I wish you good luck with your writing! <3

Then mh. Generally, I try to avoid death fics, both in reading and writing.

But in this fandom you can find great ways to work around it. So the real question is, where do you want to go with it?

Percy who dies, but due to his heroics in the past earned himself godhood and now his family and friends have to cope with the fact that he is dead and a god.

Percy who dies, but Nico says "fuck this shit", storms the underworld, grabs ghost!Percy's hand and does the second jail break because let's be real Thanatos owes Percy one for saving his life so he'd turn a blind eye and Hades doesn't even dare to speak up because Nico's been annoying him about Percy Jackson's pretty eyes for years now and if he doesn't allow Nico to steal the soul back, he will never hear the end of it.

Percy who dies and just... hangs out in the underworld. It's chill, honestly, he finally gets to bond with Nico who lives down there and they get together that way (I think I literally wrote that fic before. Or a Hades/Persephone/Percy fic. Or both. Unsure).

Percy who dies and becomes a ghost. New Rome is full of ghosts in canon, isn't it? Percy could just decide to hang out with his friends. Still painful, but they adjust to it.

Percy who dies and gets reborn and like 15 years from now, his friends get to meet him again, in a new body and have to cope with that.

Percy who dies and is just... gone.

Sooo, before you can really work on "What would they do?", you have to pick what you do. Where do you want Percy's death to go, because depending on the route taken, the reactions would vary.

Obviously, everyone grieves in their own way. So keep in mind how the characters act in canon. (Which, quite frankly, in the case of Nico really only leaves the "fuck this shit" Orpheus and Eurydice version, considering he tried to bring back Bianca for years and successfully revived Hazel.)

And "What would they do?" also depends on what you want them to do. Because if you stick with canon, most of them would just be sad for a bit and then move on, if canon's anything to go by. Annabeth in HoO never even mentions Luke or her grief for her first big crush slash mentor who had died just a few short months before. I refuse to touch ToA but from what I gather no one attempted to bring back Leo and they were all just kinda sad until he returned on his own. Jason's dead too now and I don't think anyone tried to bring him back either and Piper's already smooching her new love interest from what I've heard. And "camp" as a large entity wouldn't do much; all of them have lost so many siblings in the war and they moved on from it. They'd burn a shrout for Percy and move on from it, though he is our protagonist, in the general picture of a war riddled society with child soldiers who have lost dozens of siblings in the past few short years already, his death is not that much more significant than any of the others.

You can go with the route closest to what is considered "in character" by orienting yourself on the way these characters have been shown in canon to react to character deaths.

Personally, I think Riordan was a coward who vastly downplayed the PTSD, survivor's guilt and grief these characters should have been going through by the time HoO rolled around and I think that you should make the judgment call yourself. You've read the books, you have a feel for how they acted, how they felt, how they reacted. What do you think would be their appropriate reaction?

Sure, you could give me a list of characters you want involved in this and the scenario you want to go with and I can directly answer the question you asked and tell you how I think they'd react. And that can be a good guideline if you are unsure yourself. But at the end of the day, this is your story and it must feel like yours. You have to be the one who, when reading it, is satisfied by the reactions and behind how they acted. And that can easily be derailed by looking to others for guidance. That's not meant to be me declining your answer; if you do want to know what I think specific characters' reactions would be like in a specific scenario, then come back to me with that and I'll offer you my opinion.

It's more meant to be encouragement for you to look into yourself and test your own grasp on the characters and go with whatever reactions you think would be most satisfying; they don't necessarily have to be the most in character. Not just because sometimes, as above mentioned, "in character" can be dissatisfying and deliberately play down emotions a real person would be feeling in certain scenarios (often due to the author's own lack of knowledge about the specific scenario, deliberate ignorance or ratings; it's tough to sell a kids' book series if you genuinely confront the trauma that comes with the reality of being a child soldier), but also because sometimes, being more "out of character" is just... more fun, sometimes things are thought experiments, sometimes you want the extreme reaction because it makes for a better or more entertaining read.

Since this turned, uh, longer than anticipated, to sum it up shortly: Decide what Percy's death is supposed to mean in the larger context of the story and where you want to go with it, then decide which specific characters' reactions you're looking for. In some cases, you can easily compare to how they have reacted to a similar scenario in the past and then see for yourself if you want to stay in line with that reaction, or if you feel like a different reaction would be more appropriate, or just more fun to write/read.

You read the books and, I assume, enough fanfiction to know the characters and find your answer yourself, even if you're unsure about it right now. And if you do want more detailed input, you are free to come back to me with specifics, or message me in private and we can talk certain scenarios or particular characters you're struggling with through and I'll see if I can help you. ;)

27. Have you ever written a love letter?

I have, it’s actually how i asked out my first gf! i was agonizing over it for a really long time and i eventually figured out that i couldnt do it face to face, and we only had three classes together (which seemed like so little bc i was so in love with them) so we had been writing each other notes for a really long time and exchanging them at lunch or a class we had.

and we both liked saying personal things in those notes and having those deep conversations through them bc its so much easier, so they became our way of telling each other things we couldnt say to the others face

and so one day i gave them our usual daily note, answering whatever they had asked and asking a few things of my own, just carrying on the conversation we were having in those letters

and i then sat down and wrote a full page professing my love to them and it was the cheesiest, sappiest thing you have ever seen, ever and it said things like “I didn’t fall in love with you; I flew” and “Every time I looked you in the eye, I was terrified you would see my affection spilling over, terrified you would run from it” and things like that

and then at the end, i was like “I don’t think I could take a direct yes no maybe answer, so if you like me, too, sing [insert song from the pjo musical we were obsessed with at the time, idr which one], if you dont, sing this, and if you’re not sure, sing this” and it was the last day of school before a week off, so i had a week to, like, recover, bc keep in mind i didnt think they liked me back

and i gave that note to them in our sixth period class and told them to read it after i left and tell me what they thought at the end of the day, two periods (about two hours) later.

and i have no memory of those classes. i was so hung up over this, so scared i would lose them for something i could have kept secret if i tried, and those two hours felt like years, but i dont remember anything that happened

and then i was walking to their locker (i always waited for them at the end of the day) and they came up behind me and tapped my shoulder. and i ignored it bc it was school and i didnt care about whoever wanted to trick me. and they did it again. i ignored it. a third time, and i spun around, angry, stressed, and ready to yell, but it was them and i. completely. froze.

they gave me my letter back, face unreadable, and i nearly cried right then, terrified, but i looked down at it anyway and words like coward and sorry stuck out to me, and i couldnt breathe.

but then i actually read it, their words written on the edges of the paper as i hadnt left any space on the page itself, and it said that they liked me too. and that they were going to tell me before summer break bc they were a coward and that they were sorry they didnt sooner if they’d known how i felt and i was so relieved those words hadnt meant what i thought they meant, and they opened their locker and made a noise for me to look and so i did

and inside the locker was a little whiteboard that said “I like you, too” and we hugged and went to the buses, laughing about how we shouldve known, thinking back to a conversation we had on a field trip where we argued over who would be the dad of the two of us if we were married, and i went to their house over the break and we talked about it, about us, on the trampoline in their backyard, setting boundaries and blushing and glancing back to see if their mom could hear us

and we walked through the halls for two years together, listening to whatever music i was playing on my phone, coming up behind the other and hugging whenever we could, and when they came out as nb, i was the first to know, and when i came out as trans, they were too, and we cried when i tucked my hair into a beanie, and we cried bc we couldnt be as open as we wanted, but we hugged and laughed and smiled and hugged (we hugged a lot) and we never kissed but we didnt need to

and then their parents found out somehow, despite our excessive carefulness, and the pandemic hit, and they moved, and i dont know what we are anymore but i do know this all meant something to them, and it meant something to me, but until its all over, we wont know for sure, i guess.
