Another step we can take, especially as white/white passing folks, is take ample time everyday and reflect. Take a look at yourself, at your defensiveness. Take a look at and have hard conversations with your “well-intentioned” family members, friends, and acquaintances. Take a look and sit with your discomfort. Change starts at home. Change starts with us. As individuals. This problem is so incredibly deeply rooted. All around us.

As I’ve seen countless people say: I’m learning. I’m unlearning. I’m taking every chance I get to look at myself, my privilege, and see how I can use it for change.

Personally I don’t think I have a lot of say in racial matters, given my very awkward position of being a “model minority.” But it’s very clear that Black Americans need our help. Among other disadvantages, they worry for their lives and loved ones every single day. I can’t even imagine living in that fear.

Hey, it's gonna sound stupid but i don't live in us or europe, so i don't really know what's going on there. I don't want to spread misinformation on my behalf and want to educate myself. Why is the term 'all lives matter' is bad and the correct term is blm? Because the ones that face racism isn't only black people, but all race that isn't caucasian. Is it because 'all lives matter' implies that caucasian is included and they have 'white privilege' or what? Thanks

Here’s my answer:

because right now we’re focusing on black people. There have been a string of incidents highlighting the little regard that American police (though this isn’t limited to America) have for the lives of their black citizens, so the focus is on them. Obviously, all people of color face racism, but most of the time, the people using “All Lives Matter” are just white folks trying to discredit a movement.

Now that you’ve read that, please realize that I’m not the best voice for this platform and I’d encourage you to follow these organizations and listen to what they have to say:

On behalf of TDB, I stand in solidarity with the fight against injustice, systemic racism, police brutality, white supremacy and the oppression of the Black community. Black Lives Matter. As a white immigrant who came to the US three years ago from a country that’s predominantly white, I acknowledge my privilege. I have A LOT of work to do. A lot of learning and unlearning. Posting a hashtag and reposting the photos is not enough. Being non-racist is not enough. We must be anti-racist every single day. We must educate ourselves. We must listen, speak out, donate and we must get involved. It’s not supposed to be comfortable and it’s the only way we can make a change. And to all the people outside of the US saying this is just an “American” problem. It is not. Racism is everywhere and we all need to get to work. We all need to be better, we all need to listen and we all need to learn. I will continue donating to the organizations that are fighting against injustice and racism and I encourage you to join me. Here are some organizations I’m supporting and will continue to support: @blklivesmatter, @antipoliceterrorproject, @blackvisionscollective, @eji_org, @nationalbailout, @colorofchange, @reclaimtheblock, @naacp_ldf.
