I've just finish Helen Mirren's Catherine the Great, and it's very 'Russian' style so much on narative, settings and the gimmic.
I say Russian style because I feel them just when I read Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment+ Karamazov Brothers, Pushkin's Boris Godunov+The Queen of Spades+Eugene Onegin, Tolstoy's War And Peace+Anna Karenina, and Boris Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago. The definitions (according to myself) are sad but soulful, dark but romantic and harsh but delicate. Those stories can make you crying or leaving you with the sorrowful but impressive.
When I was in my last year of the Uni, I enrolled for Russian Literature, at that time all I cared about was pre-revolution - early revolution eras. (Yeah. The best Russian liturature in my opinion, that time, was realism is the only genre). After I graduated, I have plenty of time to explore further. The story that makes me understand the 'Russian beautiful, dark and romantic' is Doctor Zhivago. It even gets my tears out.
So, Catherine the Great is the same. And I must admit HBO is the most proper producer. BBC is also good, but I can't feel those feeling from many mini series from Russian Literatures.
But for historical aspect, I think her legacies cause many trouble, not only drove Imperial Russia to its fall, but also the endless wars and the idea of annexing the lands and countries that want to get out of Russia's influence. And one of those is war with Ukraine. It's really immoral.

Two for one, books & beer.
Today I’m drinking and reading. There’s a fun one and a dramatic one. A good balance. The drink - Sparkle Ale by 21st amendment brewing. Which is a great name for a brewery.
Tumblr media
Honestly, it’s not great. A little bit like regular sparkling cider with a hint of beer. It should be refreshing but just reminds me of the LaCroix memes about the flavor. Meh. Higher alcohol content then the spiked seltzer’s & the same price though so...not a bad buy.
Tumblr media
Now the book. “The Tiger and the Wolf” by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Whoah. Intense.
Fantasy for sure. Definitely Russian. Still at the beginning so I don’t have a lot of data but it’s good for a dark moody night. Outcast Maniye is part of a wolf shapeshifter community. But having a tiger shapeshifting dead mom makes her not only hated but a pawn for her leader father & his head priest.
Tumblr media
Like reading it on dark spooky nights in October. 😲

Tyutchev's lyrics are like art-house movies. Fucking incomprehensible, but beautiful.
