Safety PSA! Make sure you wear sunscreen! And if it snows, wear sunglasses!
The smog does not block the sun! You can still be sunburned! Even through clothes!
With all the other crap that happens here, we don't need an excess of sunburns as well.
Especially since there is in fact a chance that Ivy could corrupt the aloe vera plants
This has been your Gotham safety PSA. More to come soon

If you're planning on viewing the eclipse (from anywhere) you should order your eclipse glasses now. Last eclipse it was near impossible to get your hands on some when it got close to time. Do not Donald-Trump the eclipse. Sunglasses also do not protect your eyes well enough no matter how dark they are. You need to use proper solar glasses or use a pinhole camera. And for the love of the anything, do NOT look through a camera lens, binoculars, or telescope at it if it does not have a strong solar filter (not just your solar glasses). You've seen setting an ant on fire with a magnifying glass? Don't BBQ your eyeballs. Burns can occur within seconds.

Hi I don't care if you've seen this somewhere else, if you just reblogged another post about this, or if it doesn't fit the aesthetic of your page. Saving lives is more important

This is my periodic reminder that, when cleaning, never mix:
Bleach and vinegar (makes chlorine gas)
Vinegar and ammonia (makes mustard gas)
Both gases are toxic and may damage your lungs or other organs. Be smart when cleaning, don't mix cleaning products if you don't know for 100% sure that they're safe
These are the two I remember from the top of my head from the time I only read detective novels. If you know any other combinations that are dangerous, feel free to add to this post!

@staff I’ve seen some people saying this already, but you can never have too many people rallying to change something dangerous. The new Y2K update is very dangerous and unhealthy to people who suffer from Psychosis and people on the schizophrenia spectrum. Unreality can be very detrimental to some people, but it can at least sometimes be avoided through tag filtering. The new update can be a major trigger for some people. I may be wrong about this, but I’m pretty sure you can’t turn the update off. Even if it is possible to turn it off, the fact that it automatically pops up rather than being something you turn on manually makes it dangerous for people with that trigger. So PLEASE, for the sake of people’s safety, remove this feature as quick as possible.

heads up! there has recently (as of early august 2022) been a recall of some Banana Boat sunscreen products!
which products? Banana Boat SPF-30 Hair & Scalp Defense (spray-on) with the product code 0-79656-04041-8 and lot codes 20016AF, 20084BF, and 21139AF. all other products, including other batches of this spray, are unaffected by the recall.
why? the FDA has detected trace amounts of benzene (a carcinogen) in the products. they are not an ingredient in the sunscreen.
if you have any products covered in the recall, please stop using them immediately and dispose of them. to check if your sunscreen is part of the recall, look for the lot code on the bottom of the can: if it matches one of the three above, do not continue to use it. Banana Boat is also offering reimbursements for customers who have purchased the products, with details listed on their website.

So apparently KOSA (2024 edition) is getting either thrown out until next year or put into effect in six days. That was a guesstimate based on a different person saying that's when Congress is back in session and may be false.
Update that's going in the main post at the top: it has enough support to pass Congress.
It failed the last two times because people were voting against it.
This time, KOSA has traction among the pro-LGBTQ parties. Because nobody is fucking calling their bullshit and screaming from the rooftops that calling it the "Kids Online Safety Act" is misleading.
What will it passing do?
Nothing much, only prevent any education on LGBTQIA+ (it's that stupid fucking argument about us grooming kids again), shut down nearly every fandom space on the internet, and make it required for most big tech companies to have your ID.
Want to have resources for kids to discover their identity readily available? Yes? Then fucking speak up against this stupid fucking bill.
Fandom spaces like Tumblr, Twitter (? I thought the MAGA assholes liked Musk?), Tiktok, Archive Of Our Own, and any other website that hosts fanfic or fanart? Either shut down permanently, forced to uproot to a different country and down for a while (best case scenario, and they likely won't be able to send any data, and therefore fanfics, to the US), or gutted so that you only get to put G rated cishet ships on there, if any shipping at all. How to avoid that? I've already said it: Call your fucking representatives.
Want to avoid the fucking dystopic task of being legally obligated to give big tech your government issue ID? Again, cause an uproar. Call your goddamned representatives.
If they can pass this, the ripple effects could be catastrophic.
So, for fuck's sake, any Americans that can impact this stupid fucking bill and see this? Do everything in your power to shut it down because you have until February twenty sixth (26th) to send this bill back to where it belongs.
And if you can't do that? Reblog, copy my tags, and boost the signal.
Sorry not sorry for ranting, making you scroll through that, and swearing a probably excessive amount, but KOSA is a bill with a GLOBAL IMPACT being passed by ONE COUNTRY because some old people are scared of two guys with who were told they were girls kissing within five hundred miles of a child. Fuck this shit, I shouldn't have to worry about bad bills in America but I fucking do because I use the internet and would like to avoid mass censorship. Fuck this, fuck conservatives, and fuck the fact that some boomers make your country's policies.
Now, if you won't mind me, I'm going to be up until three in the morning downloading fanfiction or copying and pasting them into a a text file if I can't so I can read them by the end of the week.

hey guys just a reminder to stay safe walking out in public.
i was walking home after applying to my local dollar general getting some food, and i found a black suburban with window stickers of children and someone inside watching me through their window. as soon as i noticed them, they drove off really slowly, still staring at me.
i urge everybody who can to learn self defense, always have something to record audio and video (cellphones are perfect), and always carry something on you that could be used to protect yourself
stay safe.

!!! SAFETY PSA !!!
If you purchase turkey or ham for these upcoming Holiday seasons, please be careful!
Some brands have been revealed to be raising their animals in a field contaminated with runoff from Ace Chemicals, and others have been found raising livestock in the facility!
If your turkey, ham, or other meat seems to be "so large it's unnatural" or something similar, please contact a store employee so they may dispose of it properly!

I'm trying to write a post about tick safety and avoiding tick bites, but a lot of the info on websites is like "Avoid going in the woods, in plants, and where there are wild animals" and "Activities like hiking and gardening can put you at risk" and I'm like thanks! This is worthless!
As ticks and tick borne illnesses are expanding their range, I think it's important for people to be educated about these things, and I think it's especially important to give people actual advice on how to protect themselves instead of telling them to just...avoid the natural world
Rough draft version of Tick Advice:
Ticks don't jump down on you from trees, they get on you when you brush against grass, brush, bushes etc.
Ticks get brought to an area when they get done feeding from an animal and fall off them. In the USA, the main tick-bringing animal is deer, but I've seen plenty ticks on feral cats and songbirds.
Ticks get killed when they dry out so drier areas with more sunlight are less favorable to ticks.
The above is useful for figuring out whether an area is likely to have lots of ticks, and how vigilant you have to be in that area.
Wear light-colored, long pants outside. Tuck your pants into your socks, and tuck your shirt into the waist of your pants. Invest in light, breathable fabrics idc
IMMEDIATELY change out of your outside clothes when you come back from a tick-prone area, wash them, and dry them on high heat to kill any ticks that might be stuck on.
Shower and check yourself for ticks after coming inside. Hair, armpits, and nether regions in particular. You can use a handheld mirror or rely on touch; an attached tick will feel like a bump kinda like a scab
While you're outside, you can just periodically check for ticks by running your hands down your legs and checking visually to see if anything is crawling on your clothes. Light colors make them easy to spot, and they don't move fast.
Combing through each others' hair to check for creepy crawly critters is a time-honored primate ritual and is not weird. When hiking, bring a friend who will have your back when you feel something on your neck and need to know if it's sweat or a tick
If you're careful, you can usually catch ticks before they bite you, but if one does bite you, it's not the end of the world. Since tickborne diseases are different regionally i suspect this advice will differ based on where you are, but the important thing is remove the tick with tweezers (DON'T use butter, a lit match, or anything that kills the tick while it's still attached, please) and contact a doctor to see what to watch for. Most illnesses you can catch from ticks are easily treatable if you recognize them when symptoms first appear

Let’s make my second post a PSA: please be careful around construction. I just went out to water my flowers and part of the old wood on my patio steps toppled under my feet (I’m ok! I laughed afterwards!)

As someone who (allegedly) enjoys walking around in abandoned buildings and places! Here’s some things you should bring just in case you ever go! PSA: don’t go alone your first time, go with someone experienced!!! Also be safe, and don’t trash the place, that’s just not cool man, aka don’t just go there to do drugs and alcohol…
Long clothes, like a jacket with a long sleeve shirt and long pants. You wanna wear this because things might get on you, but make sure it’s not too long, you don’t wanna trip
High top shoes. Or just shoes that aren’t crocks or vans. Nails are a threat and you wanna be able to move around a lot in them so make sure they are comfortable
Bandaids and antibacterial goop or hydrogen peroxide. You might get some nicks and cuts and cleaning them then covering them is your first priority.
Knowing you have had a tetanus shot within 10 years and the ability to get one at most 48 hours after getting an injury that might cause tetanus
Two friends: one to be there with you (optional) and one that knows where you are and will check up on you, make sure tho that they won’t share the location to someone that will trash the place. Cause that’s just not cool man
Snacks and water. You might be able to estimate how long you will be there, but you won’t really know. It might be bigger than you thought, so food and water is important. Water is also just good in general
Self defense. You don’t know who’s in there, and a weapon or pepper spray is just good to have, also a pocket knife is really good just in general for this kind of thing
A portable charger, your phone might die, and that is the worst case scenario. Your phone will be so valuable in an abandoned area. So keep it charged
A flashlight. You could use your phone, but that’s not the best choice, and it’s drains the battery, which you don’t want. So get a decent flashlight and use that.
Camera (optional) you don’t need it, but it’s so nice to take photos in there!!
Backpack. You need to store all of this, so use a backpack!!!
Lock pick (optional) you might need something to open some things, so knowing how to lock pick and having the supplies is great!!!
Mask. You will be there with mold and dust, so a mask is not optional(in my opinion)
Have a fun time exploring!!

Hey, PSA:
On your phone, go to Settings> Security and Privacy> Privacy> Other Privacy Settings> Ads> Delete Advertising ID
Then go back to Other Privacy Settings> Google location history> Turn off Location History &/or Turn-on Auto-Delete (you can set a time period of how long to keep it)
Then, staying on Other Privacy Settings, go to '+ See all activity controls'> Web & App activity> Turn off (you can also turn-on Auto-Delete for here too)
Then Scroll down to Personalized ads> My Ad Center> Turn Off Personalized Ads.
Google has no business knowing/storing everything you do online, and knowing/storing where you go everyday. Turn it off.
These instructions are for an Android phone, IOS might be different. If you have IOS or another operating system feel free to add on with your own map to where they've buried these settings in your phone to help others.
