If you're talking about mental health issues in someone who just gave birth, don't just call it "postpartum" and only mean postpartum depression and assume everyone only understands that means postpartum depression, because postpartum psychosis exists too.

When you're talking about neurodiversity/mental illness, don't just say "the spectrum" and only mean the autism spectrum and assume everyone understands that only means the autism spectrum, because the schizophrenia spectrum exists too.

I understand that most people think that schizophrenia or psychosis isn't the norm. Most people don't include us in general conversations. But that doesn't mean we don't exist. Postpartum psychosis is very real and should be talked about more. Schizophrenia is a spectrum and more people should understand that.

Those of us with psychosis or schizophrenia are used to being excluded but it hurts a bit more when we're being completely excluded from conversations specifically about mental illness. By defaulting "postpartum" or "the spectrum" to not include us, it feels like you're saying postpartum psychosis doesn't exist, or schizophrenia isn't also a spectrum. When you treat postpartum or the spectrum as if they only mean one thing, it implies that there is no other postpartum mental health conditions, or no other mental illness spectrums. It's not that hard to add an extra word to be specific.

I know this isn't a huge deal, and I might just be nit picking. But I think these two examples show how those of us with psychosis or schizophrenia are always excluded, even from other mentally ill people. Many people don't know that postpartum psychosis even exists. Many people don't know that schizophrenia is also a spectrum. And the general understanding won't change, if the only people using inclusive language are those of us who have it.

I am having a lot of schizophrenia related struggles lately. I am unsure what to do about it. As of right now I will try to take it a bit easier. Maybe first i should tend to my room, after that I will clean my body. Walky dog, and go to sleep. I should probably cancel my social plans this week, but im not sure if I made social plans. Christmas will be especially hard maybe.

I would really like my room to be tidy and clean. I would like my sleep to be complete, and also the food I eat. I will tend to the needs of my body and my dog. Tonight I will also make homework for my group project. Tomorrow I have a class on toxicology. I should not miss it.

You know what I think about all the time lately? A no magic AU where Snape had maladaptive daydreaming/schizoprenia or smt and this is why he gets so much bullied at school, for being a freak that talks about imaginary shit.

It first started when the abuse at home got really bad, so he started to dream about a magical place that he could go to one day to cope with everything, where a 'freak/outcast' like him could belong to.

This is also why he and Lily were so close at first. They played rp games at the park and Sev had amazing stories to tell her. But it got harder to keep this going when they were teenagers. Lily wanted him to grow up and forget about Hogwarts, not understanding that for him it was real. Soon, she broke up their friendship to Hangout with more mature friends.

It was the 1960s, and he was from a poor family. He probably didn't get help from a professional like he needed.

He ended up dying while trying to prove that magic was real. (Maybe he tried to fly or chatch a mythical creature and fell.)

Hey there! Honestly my biggest reccomendation is just seeking out actual people dealing with it - We’re experts in our own experience, and can give you a first hand account rather than having it filtered through bias or clinical language. It’s also important to remember that schizophrenia is an umbrella term for several conditions! I happen to have the paranoid variety, which is one of the more well known ones, but definitely not the only one.

These conditions need to be approached with kindness and an open mind above all else, and it’s important to remember that the whole “oh this serial killer has schizoprenia ooooooo so scary” narrative is literally just false, and that we’re far more likely to be subjected to violence and abuse than to be perpetrators of them. I appreciate your sincere interest! Sometimes when you tell people they think they’re about to get stabbed lmao

I have a lot of specific hcs about them (mostly because I'm slowly stealing them to turn them into OCs for... something) so here's a little rundown in their story! (Let's hope it's actually little!!)

AKA long post weird AU you released a beast (me infodumping)

When they're tiny:

They met when they're 12 at their new school: Owynn moved because of bullying (the kids used to make fun of him bc he was tall/redhead/has heterocromia and even cut his hair, that's why he has it very short now) and Freddy moved to a whole new country (from Spain to wherever fhs happens). Freddy is Mexican while Owynn's dad is swedish (he was not born there)

They find eachother to be very weird but share many tastes and life events, like the bullying and missing a parent (Owynn is more direct and likes to insult his mom while Freddy doesn't talk abt it- Ow didn't even knew he had an adoptive dad).

They form a music duo for the spring event, since they were such good friends maybe they could work together well! Also Freddy acts kinda weird and sometimes forgets they have rehearsals after-hours but it doesn't matter bc he says sorry and he's cute!!

There's a whole drama with Owynn's parents in the middle of that but i wont bore you with that (unless you want me to)

Anyways the event happens Owynn can't come in time so Freddy goes alone and he wins but ow feels betrayed and blah blah blah they're enemies now and he hates Freddy (a 12 years old kid with a lot of mental troubles for that age)

Bc yes Fred is there but Owynn ofc didn't know, even if he actually talked very often with him too. In fact is kinda his fault Fred makes fun of Freddy so much (He's mad he lost his only best friend 🥺)

(Guess who remembers the rehearsals and the songs and owen cursing his mom)

Middle part where we watch Owynn go insane:

Literally. They kinda hate everyone but their dad now.

Moved school again, classmate with Abby and company actually! (Tho y'know abby she's... insane) so they don't talk. Also the Nightmares used to live closer to that school so they bullied him there until Owynn broke all of Onnie's teeth.

They meet Ttrap too: he's older in my AU (while ow is 15 he would be 17), he tries to get Owynn to therapy bc it's really fucking weird/sad he only talks abt Freddy or abt how much they dislike themself so. Yeah. He succeds and Owynn gets... to move schools again, yay!!

Ow starts developing schizoprenia, doesn't get the diagnosis until very later. (Prodomal stage/negative symptoms rn)

Also kinda starts discovering himself (being gay/nonbinary, doesn't really ditch the he/him pronouns until much later). Also dyes their hair purple

I don't have recent drawings of cringy sad 15y/o owen

What would equal the 1st season of the series:

Freddy moves to the HS and says his funny discourse (qué? Que quién soy yo? 🤓) Who would've though a certain kid that hates him was there to see it and died right there.

After realizing they share classroom Owynn pressures Ttrap into changing them to another one, hides his freckles/dyes his hair a darker color/uses normal glasses to not be recognized. Explaining his absence from the 1st season /j

So we have time to look at Freddy. He's struggling, Fred is being annoying; they explode at the camp where Freddy bumps into Owen who tells him to fuck off and never talk to them bc they hate him and Freddy says: "who are you?" to them. :D

Fred facepalms and takes control of the body.

Owynn develops his plan to destroy Freddy's band or whatever. Also dyes his hair again.

2nd season!!

And Owynn is in full delusional mode. The whole 'boss' thing is Eak and Ttrap going along with them so they can decompress lol

He does his little introduction and dumb plans to sabotage that obviously don't work at the end but they're actually very good bc he... actually does know what he's doing (making usagi & loon have trouble/separate golden from the group/the whole Toys thing)

But eventually it doesn't matter/the spring event thing happens ; Owynn gets hit by a car and breaks their arm

The secret 3rd season // last school year

Owynn goes back to lay low, gets his schizophrenia diagnosis so therapy+meds!! Good for them!

Freddy gets the therapy+meds combo too! Fred is chilling now :]

So Freddy now attempts to talk to Owynn but they run away from him to not cause him trouble anymore. And that goes for a while until they talk it out: They'll get time to talk alone, but Freddy also wants them to meet the rest of his band so they can get friends, Owynn accepts; but isn't a fan lf the idea.

Eventually they fall in love again (fall? Ow never stopped liking him honestly) and they date. But it takes a very long time to get there but they're so very lovely <3

ALSO yes Fred and Owynn also fix their relationship, they're besties again <3

do you hear voices or is the schizophrenia more nuanced / paranoia based? if you hear voices, how do they comment on your cannibalistic desires?

My schizoprenia manifests in the form of parania, magical thinking and disorgnized thought/speech. I don't really hear voices and even if I did they wouldn't judge me for my cannibalistic desires because it would be like judging me for having arms. It's just who I am. I feel no shame in them. We don't judge people for eating apples or celery so why would we judge people for eating people? For me, wanting to eat a person is like wanting to eat common food. Human meat is a normal, regular part of a healthy human diet. Ever since I was first told that cannibalism was bad I've been flabergausted because how is it ANY different than eating animal meat? Humans are only against cannibalism because they want humans to live which is completely illiogical and incomprehendable. Humans are far too obsessed with themselves. Humans having loyalty to their species is the most idiotic thing I have EVER heard of. I hate people and I hope they all die. From the newborn to the eldery, I hate EVERY single one of us.

Hm. The evaluation lady definitely confirmed I’m experiencing some type of psychosis and hallucinations, along with depression. She said I don’t seem to have symptoms that add up with bipoler or any type of schizoprenia though, which is interesting. I didn’t think I was but it was still enlightening to like, get through all those questions about it. She did say she thought it might’ve been like, aggravated by “childhood trauma”, though I’m not exactly sure what trauma she was talking about tbh. 

It was interesting to get to talk about it, like-That’s something I’ve been scared for years to talk about and I just up and said it. I didn’t mention being suicidal or like, self-harm or anything like that, for obvious reasons, but still. It was good. I cried when she asked questions about some harsher stuff and it was weird but still. Not a bad experience. I’m lowkey glad my mom actually came through on the therapy thing, even if she’s not coming through on anything else lol.
