More NiGHTS articles, all from Edge magazine! One review of NiD (a few months before JoD’s release) and some previews of JoD. Sort of long so continued under the read more

(Btw for the last one - anyone have any ideas on what Iizuka meant by “the child characters have more suitable names”? All I can think of is that maybe Will and Helen have more “realistic” full names than Elliot and Claris (since they have the sort of alliteration/repetition theme with their full names) but that part confused me)
If you want to read these yourself (there’s literally hundreds!), here is the Internet Archive link

Curious, do people who play gacha games give any kind of shit about archiving the game itself? Or do they accept that the company running the game just takes their money, lets them play for a handful of years, and then fucks off?
I know I grew up playing MMOs and that has just. Been a part of the experience of playing them, but at least a lot of MMOs that have gone defunct have had a sort of revival and archiving effort perpetuated by dedicated fans.
I don't know if we'll ever see that with any kind of mobile gacha app.
And even with a lot of MMO revivals or legacy servers or rebuilds, I don't see a lot of options for playing the game entirely offline, rather, the ability for a player to experience as much as they can without the inherent need for other people to be involved. I know it defeats the purpose of the MMO, but in any case where the servers have to go offline (whether temporarily or for good), archiving isn't worth much if it can't be accessed without the need for them.
I dunno. Just having some thoughts about game preservation because I'm just very acutely aware of the passage of time rn.

Virtual-On Wallpapers 💫
Virtual On is a futuristic, mech-fighting game. Virtual On originally released in arcades and the Sega Saturn (1996) and released a year later on PC (1997). The Saturn version of the game was one of the few games that supported the SEGA Net, the console attachment allowing internet access.
Unlike other fighting games of this era, the player moves around in a full three dimensional plane, rather than constantly facing your opponent in a side-on perspective.
Notably, the mecha designs for all installments of the series were created by robot designer Hajime Katoki, known for his work on the Gundam series.
