I followed artsangel since her previous comic immaterial. I have to say she IS talented and has the skills. But her style is verrrrry time consuming and she would only update every 2 weeks. I used to study her art a lot because I was always impressed by it, and Im fairly certain it did not look like like that when it was on canvas. I used to see her progresses on her stories and she uses a lot of assets and predrawn faces to keep her consistent pixar look. The faces were less uncanny and more expressive. Now the eyes are all wonky and displaced.

I think she may have used ai to polish her panels. Perhaps the workload proved too much, or maybe she was feeling insecure. I was concerned when she got picked up by webtoon because I could tell it would be difficult for her to keep up the schedule. Ai is super powerful but its not powerful enough to make a COMIC, not even consistently. She probably using it as an enhancer to her already great skills. A shame though, she doesn’t need it.

Also I think the reason her preproduction period was so quick is because she was highly prepared before launch. She already has multiple comics under her belt and webtoon probably didn’t need to change much. Im sure she just reused her canvas comic for her reboot and built a buffer in the meantime.

Having to meet deadlines can definitely be a reason but not an excuse IMO.

One creator I can think of who has a similar style (albeit in black and grey) is figmentforms, creator of A Tale of Two Rulers.

Updates are slow, she posts maybe a new page once a month, the art is gorgeous but it's clear it takes her time. It's a free to read comic. It's worth the wait.

That said, if she wanted to make her updates more frequent, I wouldn't blame her at all for utilizing new tools and methods to do so - but it wouldn't justify her in using AI tools that are stealing other people's art.

There are loads of shortcuts that artists already use that are fine because they're still genuinely handcrafted. 3D models, overlay textures, blur effects, etc. are all tools that artists use to help speed up the drawing process and were made by hand.

And beyond that, the need to make the process more efficient isn't a crime, but it's in how you do it. You can use these tools irresponsibly or at the cost of your own comic's quality. Case in point, Lore Olympus and Let's Play, which are both godawful in how they implement 3D backgrounds and stock images:

Creating comics is finding a balance between efficiency and quality, not sacrificing one for the other and using it as justification to avoid criticism for that sacrifice.

If Sarah Ellerton was using AI based on her own art and being honest about it, I don't think anyone would be nearly as upset. It might prompt a debate over what's ethical in the world of comics - whether or not it's right for consumers to pay for a product that's being churned out of an AI prompt - but at least it wouldn't be theft and it would probably just be there as an aid to an artist who's been doing this for 20 years and had to find a way to make the process more efficient. I think AI can be used as a productive tool if it's implemented responsibly and without being at the cost of another artist's work.

The issue is that 1.) Sarah is being VERY suspicious over the whole thing which leads us to believe that she's NOT using ethical AI assistance, and 2.) there's a VERY clear distinction near the end of her previous comic, Immaterial, where you can basically tell when she adopted AI. The main character Alex, for example, literally became a whole other person.

This is a common problem for AI coloring prompts, a LOT of them are bad at rendering darker skin tones (I think I mentioned this in my last post, but I literally got to playtest AI coloring tools from WT's a couple years ago, and they could NOT figure out darker skin tones, any dark colors that were put down were assumed to be shadows so characters just looked like white characters with the curtains pulled over their face).

She just looks like a SamDoesArts poster girl now. Everything unique about her has been stripped away and you can see this transition in the final page of Immaterial and the first episode of Quantum Entanglement:

None of it feels like organically her, it feels like a cheap machine reproduction.

I don't doubt that this person has evolved a lot as an artist or that her older work was genuinely her, she's clearly got a lot of skill that only someone who's been drawing comics for years would gain.

But it's clear somewhere along the way she succumbed to insecurity or stopped caring enough to start using AI to do the heavy lifting. I mean honestly, her work from before was fine! So I don't see why she would be using it for 'polishing', there are so many ugly ass webtoons on the platform so even the art from Immaterial - even if she had to simplify it a bit more to make it easier to meet deadlines - would likely be a refreshing change of pace.

But the way she's utilized AI here, I was quicker to assume Sam Yang drew Quantum Entanglement when I first saw it.

And it is a shame, because, as you said, she doesn't need it. Her art is perfectly capable on its own and while I can understand her need to make the process more efficient, there are better ways to do that than using AI that's clearly ripping off other artists and then lying about it. It's a shame she'd put her reputation on the line as a seasoned artist just to meet Webtoons' stupid deadlines. Like, how can it be worth it?

I can definitely see Ghost and König having panic and anxiety attacks (I have another ask like this and I still need to answer it dammit. I HAVE ALOT OF ASKS STILL- LIKE 38 LOL)

The first time Sweets saw Ghost have a panic attack, she panicked a bit herself because she's trying to figure out how to calm Ghost down. She's just cursing to herself, brain just overthinking everything

(Sweetheart: Should I hug him? Will that make it worse? Okay wait, don't touch him-- but does he even know I'm in here with him? Just touch him- NO DONT-- FUCK WHAT DO I DO?? DO I TOUCH HIM OR NOT?? MAYBE GET WATER? BUT-- JUST DO IT OH MY GOD NO FUCK-- )

So she gets on the floor with him and is so hesitant. But she gently soothes his arm that's huddled on his bent knees. "You're okay..." She lowly says to him. She sees its kinda working, so she sticks her hand in the fire more. "You're gonna be okay, Simon. It'll pass."

Simon.

She used his real name. She's talking to the man who's having a panic attack, not Ghost. Not the calm, collected Ghost. Simon.

It took a bit more for him to calm down with her soothing touch and low but soft tone, telling him to focus on his breathing. Ghost sighs, looking at his hands. Sweetheart's places her hand in one of his, the warmth immediately going to his already dizzy head. He looks up, eyes locking with hers. She's concerned about him. Worried.

But she wears a soft smile for him. "Do you need anything? Maybe some water?" She asks, her thumb rubbing his thick skin. Comfort.

Simon gulps and clears his throat, eyes leaving hers. "Yeah. If you can." She nods, "Of course. I'll be right back." She gets up but was stopped by Simon's hand. Please.

"P-please. Please don't leave." He whispers. I need you right now. I need you so much.

She smiles as she shimmies in-between his legs and wraps her arms around his neck. "Wait--" She rings back, like Simon was made out of acid. "Oh gosh, do you want to be touched right now? I'm so sorry, I didn't even think--" She was cut off from Simon yanking her into him. His ear right where her heart is, hearing the rhythmic thump. It's calming. You're calming.

She relaxes into him, wrapping her arms around him once more, her hands combing his hair. Simon closes his eyes as he sighs in content. He's learned something about himself. About Sweetheart. She always has a warm presence. A presence that makes you feel at home. Safe.

You are my peace.

okay okay so

tw for like death and murder and lab shit and stuff, got some mad scientist type bs going on....

none of this is really set in stone btw i have a tendency to change lore over and over and over ripp

basically i just really wanted to make some kind of apocalypse/secret lab type story because all of my ocs so far have been from the same fantasy type story, so far i only have three ocs from my silly little unnamed oc's story (and all of them dont have names! shocking i know!)

so this guy, (im gonna call him 1 for now bc bro remains WITHOUT A NAME) is the son of a pretty prestigious and well know genetic engineer (1's mum is one of the three characters so far and he doesn’t have a dad lmaoo).

1's mum was researching animal/human gene splicing and also developments of diseases and how they travel from animals to humans. yk like trying to figure out how sometimes humans will contract some diseases from animals but other diseases wont get passed on.

this is why 1 has his pointy teeth (bro got his genes spliced by his mother when he was younger) the pointy teeth definitely ALWAYS had lore and definitely DIDNT occur just because i like to draw pointy teeth... definitely

okay so further down the line into 1's mums experiment there was an accident, some kind of mutation she had created had got loose and attacked a bunch of the scientists in her facility, whilst trying to escape she ends up being killed by said mutation (im still undecided on if i should make her cold and cruel or kind but slightly crazy btw... but i'll figure it out eventually)

this facility is out in the middle of nowhere and 1 is pretty much used to not seeing his mum for really long periods of time at this point so he doesn't know anything is wrong for a while. he only realised about two or three months later when the news reported some kind of strange creature in a small town pretty close to the facility, he recognised the mutation and knew that his mum had created it.

later on in the story 1 realises he isn’t actually a human he’s just another of his mothers experiments but for some reason she got attached to him and raised him like a real child (that’s why he doesn’t have a biological father lol)

he has one friend (i’m gonna call them 2 bc i don’t have a name for them either sobs) and he spends quite a lot of time with them, i haven’t got their design down properly yet but i’m pretty sure i want to give them some kind of dyed blue hair…. maybe…….. idk

1 and 2 are the type of kids to just absolutely fuck up an easy task like to the max - they would set the kitchen on fire whilst trying to make a sandwich. 2 is actually pretty clever but as soon as they spend any amount of time with 1 it’s like all of their smarts just disappear.

i think the best way to describe 1’s personality is a massive puppy that likes to bite you but doesn’t really understand it’s own strength - he’s a bit clueless and slightly blood thirsty

2 plays guitar btw, not that that really means anything it’s just a fun little fact :D

age - 45-55, i can entertain 30s if i have to but it's mostly just me being polite. i can also take him older because i fully believe he was chosen of mystra long enough for it to effect his aging. i like to think morena his mother is older than most people put her at (i think of her around her 80s - i love the idea of tara being a 'grandma' figure to gale and she's having her old lady parties with his mum). and that gives me playing room for age to be older, but not necessarily look as old as i put him at. but also i don't think gale's physical appearance is even that help, my ex who was 32 looked older than gale, my ex who was 55 looked younger than gale. my mother looks younger at gale at 59. so !!! i just like to play with middle aged hence the 10 year gap in my headcanon. i also think gale would lie about his age. ALSO!! he's a fucking wizard if you're not fucking about with a wizards age (and gender and sexuality) what are you doing. but also yes if you tell me you think gale is 37 or 38 i will nod and say that's ok. i can roll with that

height - i can put him anywhere from like 5'7" to 5'9"... i can't see him being taller. i just can't. afhiri is also 5'0" so like i gotta be realistic i don't want him to be a fucking tree she needs to climb. he still kind of is like this like i'm being KIND to the man i'm adding inches out of PITY. nah ok so i use the shorter height mod to make afhiri's model 5'0" under the assumption it's 5'7" by default, so when putting afhiri and gale next to each other with the mod enabled, he's roughly around 5'7" and 5'9", give or take because flat services are deceiving in this here video game....... 5'7" feels good though. feels organic.

height - ok so. gith are typically very tall. you're gonna see the majority of gith around 6'0" to 7'0". sometimes they can be shorter than 6'0" but that's like rare. ur like insulted for being that small. you the RUNT egg. but i don't see lae'zel being so tall. i can see her being runty. i also talked this over with a friend and she agreed on runty egg. 5'9"-5'10" not entirely runty egg but.. still needs to over compensate for not being usual gith sized.

before we go on, quick heads-up: this is a heavier and wordier post; there’s going to be discussions about PTSD, its symptoms and Ritsu's response to them, and because i’m on PC i can cut off that section with a ‘Keep Reading’ bar? so i’ll do that and try to lay out the rest of the facts before that. also there's gonna be a bit of a format change here bc PC so afblakdhbf

a few people have shown interest in Ritsu and i was. so happy. im still new to tumblr imo and im so excited about all of this FBALDKHFBASFB so here he is. and with this it’ll be a huge look into what happened between him and his brother. also shoutout to my friend bc she is VERY MUCH part of the creative process. i’m not sure if she wants to be mentioned here but credit goes to her too! Ritsu! Popular, all-rounder kid in academics and sports who started burning out in university and dropped out to pursue music with a few of his friends. it worked out for them, and his life is relatively stable. kinda stable. a little stable. really depends on your definition of stable. here’s the facts:

he's a good 5'11, about 24 years old

he/they demiboy. doesn't really feel the need for a solid label for his sexuality

plays guitar. is the band's frontman. he has three other bandmates and Shou Suzuki is one of them.

suffers from PTSD and anxiety (more on it below the cut)

loves playing Just Dance (even though he sucks at it) and Guitar Hero (he's better at this one)

your average My Chemical Romance + vocaloid enjoyer, AND a closeted 1D fan

he's a quick thinker, but when they're anxious he can barely think at all

loves udon. loves tofu. give this man either or both when he's upset and it cheers them up quite a bit.

tells people he has a diary no one should read. not because it's his diary, but because he doodles a lot in it and finds it embarrassing. of course Shou finds out. of course Shou thinks it's adorable.

he went through a lot of friends in his later school life. had many, lost many, and struggled to make friends in university. Found some buddies in their second year, made a band, dropped out with them at the start of third year.

if you've decided not to keep reading until here thanks so much for getting to this point already!!!!! heavier stuff below the cut so read at your own risk. it's lore so if theres a need for it i'll post a summary on it.

So remember the ???% incident in childhood that led to Ritsu getting hurt and Mob being unable to remember what happened? That's where we're getting at. It was never resolved in their childhood or adolescent years. Ritsu tells Mob he doesn't remember either, and tried to sweep it under the rug. Worked for the most part.

his PTSD was delayed onset. his symptoms were there, but not enough to fit the diagnostic criteria. they got worse in university because he was experiencing heavy burnout with no one he felt like he could turn to. he'd moved out and was struggling to make friends.

he has nightmares which only increased in frequency, something he never gave much thought to because they figured it was a logical response to the event. didn't bother to question it either even when he had been experiencing them for months since he had other things to worry about. doesn't mean they didn't bother them and scare them though.

sometimes they just don't show up and don't reply to messages after shooting a quick text to his mates about feeling ill. his bandmates were getting concerned.

a little bit difficult to work with in the studio sometimes because he has difficulty concentrating and doesn't seem present.

terrible sleep quality, something he and his brother have in common.

often lacks motivation to do anything outside of his music job and things he feels like he's obligated to do, like hang out with his friends sometimes. never moves things out of place in his apartment, but his room is usually a mess because he struggles with cleaning up.

Ritsu had no fucking idea how to cope with any of this and made a decision to remove their perceived source of trauma from his life. He completely cut out Mob from his life for a few years. Blocked his number. Blocked his socials. Moved and never gave him a new address.

at first he felt as though he really did something to fix things for himself. after all he didn't need to bother checking up, visiting, hanging out with a person who had caused him all this trouble. he felt optimistic about it at first. waited for their own symptoms to get better. eventually no matter how he looked at it he hadn't fixed anything. he was still being stubborn for years after cutting his brother off.

had a breakdown in front of his bandmates and they started asking him to get help. he caved in and he did! now they're learning to live with their PTSD and their issues in a healthier way. but he's also starting to really miss his brother and feel like an asshole for lying to him about the incident and leaving him in the dark.

soooo that's all that's going to be revealed in this post. more on mob's side of the story and how they try to fix things next time? i've actually already written a oneshot on it but i'm not sure if i should share it. i'll go ahead and burn that bridge when i get to it afbdhsakfb but if you're still reading at this point thanks so much for reading until here 😭😭😭

otayyy so b4 i start making a whole bunch of peppermint fudge posts you guys probably have to see him so here he is guy for both d.ark c.acao and s.hadowmilk ........somehow . i make it work.

under the cut i got some more specifics ++ doodles im gonna post this and then go to bed i dont really care if ppl see you just gotta endure when you start seeing the lore posts

ok so peppermint fudge is a knight in the d.ark cacao kingdom and has been for like ever . he && cacao have like some kind of homoerotic thing going on but neither of them wanted to ever broach that line because they thought the other wasnt interested . and then peppermint fudge meets blueberry lemon popsicle (aka deidei <3) and they get married which basically in their eyes squanders any kind of relationship .

blueberry lemon popsicle is a court diplomat of sorts and as such was around a.ffogato a lot to the point that she accidentally uncovered his whole plot to usurp the throne -- he has to haphazardly kill her (via poison) so she doesnt tell cacao .

but bc it was so haphazard peppermint fudge is able to connect the dots && figure out the plot as well, and interrupts a whole meeting accusing a.ffogato for killing his wife . a.ffogato is able to spin it as the ravings of a man whos gone mad + going to harm the king and is able to convince cacao to banish him . devastated, peppermint fudge declares that hes going to beast-yeast to prove his loyalty. this is all b4 the events of crk .

the whole time during their time apart theyre thinking of eachother awww

secondly during his time in b.east yeast over the years eventually it picks up the attention of s.hadowmilk who at first starts talking to him to mess with him but gets endeared . peppermint fudge definitely think hes actually going mad now but at least he can talk to someone .

theyve been talkign to eachother for ever with s.hadowmilk trying to urge peppermint fudge to go to the tree (so the beasts can awaken but maybe also to see this guy he keeps talking to!?)

hes found in b.east-yeast by g.ingerbrave & co and joins along (to get to the tree) . but at the end of the day hes still a knight and he holds his virtues incredibly high so when s.hadowmilk is pulling his evil shenanigans peppermint fudge is resistant to assist

by the end of the story he still has feelings for s.hadowmilk and ends up somehow (by request or by force idk) getting stuck in the tree w/ him . in his heart he thinks that there has to be a way to get s.hadowmilk to be good . but also part of him is happy that hes actually with someone he loves instead of parting w/ them for another time . and s.hadowmilk is kind of the same (he thinks he could get peppermint fudge to turn to the dark side ++ hes happy to be with him physically)

so current status theyre in a tree and if they break out (which i think will happen) who knows whats gonna happen next . will peppermint fudge go evil !?!?!?!?

my very first OC ever created was a naruto fancharacter named hanari. she was definitely what you would call a mary sue, but i enjoyed writing her a LOT at first; i made her story into like 16pt font and got really excited when i managed to reach 50 pages, but then out of curiosity i shrunk the text down to like 12pt times new roman and it was only 16 pages and it instantly ruined my desire to continue working on her story. so instead i created my character seyna (her name was different back then but that's what her name is now) and her universe and everything and that started a lifelong addiction to writing and creating characters/universes.

4. A character you rarely talk about?

some characters i have that i rarely talk about are probably the mutant ghost hunters from my old 2014 nanowrimo attempt. i created them when i was fairly young and the story still holds up pretty well considering i was a teenager when i started working on it. the only reason it's not something i've been working on lately is because of Figuring Out Logistics Issues (which has killed a lot of my WIPs lately..... 😭).

5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be?

honestly i don't think i could limit it to just one OC, because if i elevated one single OC from a story but all the rest of them didn't get to be popular the entire rest of the cast will be like "well why the fuck does THIS asshole get to be the only one who gets popularity??" like my first thought with this question was salaphiel or selius but if only ONE of the two got to be popular and the other one didn't i'd literally never fucking hear the end of it. ever. i think if i had to pick one WIP to make popular it'd probably be my HOSTS story actually just because my vision for the final product of that is "horror game with supplemental lore novel released after the game" and if i could get the game made and released i would LOVE to see people get into the universe.

11. Is there any OC of yours you could describe as a “sunshine”?

oh for sure. karini, and kass. ironically both of these characters fall under a common character archetype of mine, which is "girl with a ponytail who is very kind, sweet, and sunshiney, but could absolutely murder you with very little effort." karini is like super buff and an ace archer whose entire specialty is firing arrows with such force that they can pierce through a fucking tree, and kass went to martial arts classes since she was like seven years old and because she's trans she's gotten into a lot of actual fights so any time she's in a fight in the body of the HOSTS story she ALWAYS beats the living hell out of anyone who tries to corner/fight her even if she's outnumbered 3 to 1. both of them are deadly as hell but also just so kind, the sweetest girls you've ever met.

12. Name an OC that isn’t yours but who you like a lot

since you said i couldn't name a clear queer im gonna say i love @websterweaver 's boys maphisto and arachna. absolutely QUALITY character dynamic between those two. cannot get enough of them. chefs kiss. i also love my qpp’s character jay pratt.

13. Do you have any troublemaker OCs?

I Have A Few. 😂 the ones that make the most trouble for me are usually the terrible trio (gareth, aiden, and blair, with blair ESPECIALLY being a huge pain in the ass) and selius. sometimes other self-inserts can also be a huge pain in the ass. in hellbent heavensent isaac/isaiah is also a pain in the ass, but that's partially just me empathically feeling salaphiel's hatred of his tendency to ask incredibly insightful Armor Piercing Questions that cut through their stupid facade of lies.

16. Which one of your OCs would be the best at biology (school subject)?

honestly i feel like kusiel wins this one from sheer power of Constant Thirst For Knowledge and access to an item that literally gives them limited omniscience so i'm sure that when they're not Scheming they're probably spending time scrolling through tons of scientific information in the fragment absorbing as much knowledge as possible.

17. Any OC OTPs?

oh yeah definitely. dustin/seth, aiden/kass, aiden/gareth, aiden/gareth/blair romantic trio, any incarnation of the hh protag with any incarnation of their love interest (too many incarnations to go through the whole list tbh), any incarnation of the hh protag platonically with their best friend/qpp. there are more but those are the main ones really.

18. Any OC crackships?

i think probably the most prominent OC crackship that i got really really into was seth/aiden enemies to lovers. i started writing a stupid fanfic like story about those two ending up in a weird semi-relationship which started with hatefucking in an alley and gradually turned into a full-blown romantic relationship and it was absolutely bizarre to me how well they worked together as a romantic pairing. originally i was 100% convinced that i'd never enjoy imagining the two of them together because they're such incredibly different polar opposites that i figured it would be impossible for them to get along. but when i wrote it, it was truly amazing how the differences in their personalities complimented each other so well.

22. Is there any OC of yours people tend to mischaracterize? If yes, how?

honestly i don't get enough people interacting with my OCs enough to really see people mischaracterizing them? i think about the only time someone said something "mischaracterizing" about one of my characters was when i showed the first draft of one of my WIPs to my dad and he complained to me about the protagonist narrating the story in long, rambling sentences and generalized that tendency as a feature of my writing in general when it was in fact a peculiarity of this character specifically.

24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?

honestly i feel like i’d like to actually spend time with selius. despite them being a horrible gremlin most of the time, they have moments of genuine kindness and compassion that i feel would make them very soothing to talk to in the right situations.

27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?

i don’t think there were any OCs that were specifically inspired by a song? for me, songs generally tend to remind me more of specific scenes or things like that rather than being the inspiration for a whole character. i usually don’t start associating a character with a song until a character has been developed a certain amount.

29. Which one of your OCs would go investigate an abandoned house at night without telling anyone they’re going?

probably any of the mutant ghost hunters except for lucinda. she’s the only one who wouldn’t fuck with that shit unless she was getting a paycheck.

30. Which one of your OCs would most likely have a secret stuffed animal collection?

kass, most definitely. i feel like plushies are thing she would’ve bought a lot of when she was human and dealing with manic episodes. just a big fuckin pile of plushies on her bed that gets bigger every time she’s manic again because the mania spendy impulses be like that.

32. Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonist and why?

honestly a good question?? like my brain goes to the HOSTS characters first because i imagine them BEING in a horror game, but the important distinction is that almost all of the named characters in that story are horror antagonists rather than protags, so i honestly do not know. maybe the mutant ghost hunters would be best as an answer to this question too considering they’re dealing with ghosts constantly.

36. Do you have OC pairs where the other part belongs to someone else (siblings, lovers, friends etc)?

honestly i’m not sure i 100% understand this question but i guess the hh protag and their love interest are kinda like that because the hh protag is really close with their qpp and some of their other friends??? idk i dont get this q.

46. Has anyone ever told you that you treat your OCs badly?

i’ve honestly told myself that i’m mean to my OCs, lol. like i said in an earlier question, i don’t usually get people interacting with my OCs a lot, so i don’t usually get people saying things like this to me unprompted. but i am aware that i am definitely mean to some of my OCs. just ask selius

49. Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memes?

oh this one’s easy. blair. 100%. blair is one of those people who copes with trauma via humor and memes, and i definitely imagine them just using memes in any situation where they’d possibly be applicable. aiden will often respond with similar memes or jokes, whereas gareth is just like “smh. It’s 2am, go to bed.” and blair’s just like “no :)”

even more confirmation that dolasach definitely fits the bill for “#1 satan appealer” and “#1 validator of whale anon's TEDthoughts” !(•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑

i find that using multiple forms of symbolism to inspire character creation, especially if you take inspiration from animals, makes workshopping feel so much more effortless? too much of it can cause one to spiral and lose sight of who their oc is when they direct their focus molding them into the symbols rather than the other way around. like you, i think it's just so much more easier to let things be instead of forcing myself to fit a status quo.

tbh with you i didn't even mind that you didn't stick with the assignment of only explaining dola's feelings! as someone who is notorious for being able to shamelessly lore dump and engage in oc conversation up to 7 hours on and off it makes me feel a lot more relieved knowing that other people are willing to go above and beyond the assignment they were given 😭 (/pos).

although, this is also my weakness when it comes to sending in anonymous asks ;w;; i want to say so much but i must do it in a way where it's comprehensible and condensed instead of giving you 38924923 paragraphs, which i can only wish i could do.

and i mentioned this before (or maybe it's buried deep in the response im typing up atm..) but it warms my heart that there's also someone who has difficulty explaining their mc in brief terms!!

i often get stuck between “ah, so you only view my mc on a surface level despite all the information i've given you” and “this is a good conversation starter for someone who doesn't know my mc”. the other day i teased someone into telling me who they believe would be the most likely to be romantically paired with my mc, and i had such a visceral reaction to it that i didn't know whether to be offended or to outright laugh .. but i just?? couldn't blame them??? like yeah i get it on paper it seems like my mc would be romantically involved with simeon but holy shit she would not have a good time if that were that case KJNDFKFJS

the way i present her to people is based on what others have told me once they've gotten to know who she is from her youth up until her late twenties (and soon to be, accidental immortality that has been creeping up on her from before the story of the devildom began . . .), is something that i've come to realize really isn't the best course of action skfnkskjf so i'll be using you as my guinea pig i hope you don't mind 🙏

which is why i think it's taking so long for me to respond? i'm trying to present you all the important details in a condensed manner, but even then, it isn't enough (｡•́︿•̀｡) but i'm not one to give up i think it's pretty fun lolol [side eyes my two self-indulgent 40+k fics that are purely for her most important relationships]

back to our beautiful dolasach! the way mc is presented in-game sends sickening chills down my ribs and forms a tight knot in my stomach, so whenever i see issues rising between other mcs and the obm cast i get really giddy! it says so much about them, from how they choose to behave or respond, to how much they choose to say . . . aaa what a dream come true <3 and it's exceptionally rare to find a mc like yours and i mean that sincerely. it's not often you see an author dive into the ugly parts of a character and still make it not inherently beautiful, but rather make it feel bittersweet.

and i really adore how you mention immortality because a while ago i went on a “what does immortality mean for immortals but specifically solomon because i said so and not in the way where he grieves but in the way where his traits have over-ripened and his relationship to trauma has become over-developed” spiel and it reminded me of something i wrote so [gently hands you this]

Is this a flaw of immortality, that everything transient seems so frail by comparison, that you’ve lived so long you’re weighed down by the memory of everything that has passed before, that you find it impossible to just live, to let things be?

and after all of the posts i've stuck around for i don't believe i've pieced together what dolasach's goal would be? there is the situation of separating themself from the identity that is inherently attached to her parents, of becoming satisfied in general, of redemption for herself . . . hm! ＿〆(。。)

also i took a peek at your TEDthought of dolasach's name and all i can say is that hi hello that is a perfect parallel to satan who wishes to separate himself from lucifer and it also makes sense that she'd have another name for when she becomes immortal <33 a start of a new era, one that she will mold herself.

Big agree on having many places to pull inspiration from as something that makes workshopping easier, but not fully relying on them to shape a character. I like to think I take just enough to have some sort of loose guide for where I want Dola to be? Of course my process isn’t perfect since I tend to self-indulge often (like with me being adamant about Dola getting her immortality from Thirteen purely because the original Dolasach is a necromancer with a specialization of reaper) and I can’t really be sure that I’m keeping my own OC 100% in character all the time but you know. Real people aren’t 100% in character all the time either <-personal copium lol

I also think I tend to shift the canon characters’ personalities a little to make things a little easier and more entertaining for myself? But I will defend myself by saying that it’s not like game canon does a stellar job of keeping it’s own characters in character. And also I just take issue with some Choices™️ >.> ehem.

You 🤝🏼 Me -> not being able to keep things short. There is too much I want to say!! And when enabled and given the impression that someone gives a shit I will overdo it lmao >.> I also find that I figure things out better and faster when I’m using someone’s ask to rubber duck. Something about having to actually present my ideas to someone makes it easier to decide on what I want and where things should go, which tends to make my answers really long because I prefer to present everything in the form of actions, feelings, and thoughts more than simple description.

Personally, I don't actually like having to describe Dolasach in single, simple adjectives? Or any character, really, much like how I personally do not enjoy being asked to describe myself in five words during those stupid questionnaires and interviews for school and employment. I don't find it easy to find the right way to describe someone because I think people are too complex to simply leave it at a handful of adjectives, even more so when everyone's perception of a description can end up wildly varying.

So pls omg, don't worry too much about perfectly presenting every single thing about Godtongue to me in the span of one or two asks >.< I will inevitably misunderstand or miss something, which will just have you spend more time clearing things up—it may be better to show me small snippets at a time until I get a solid enough idea of them to work off of. It's impossible to truly condense someone into a few simple paragraphs when you know them insanely well due to having created them dfgkjh and I also don't want to frustrate you when there's things I don't get after you've gone through all the trouble of trying to figure out the perfect way to introduce more of her to me.

Because even then, I feel like because we don't think exactly alike, I'm not going to land on something truly to your satisfaction in just one or two exchanges. Literally every take I have on both Dola and the OM cast has taken a while to reach, and all the times people have told me I've been accurate with guessing what their OC/MC would be like have all been educated guesses that I'm shocked I've gotten right; I am fully expecting and also prepared to be told I'm wrong each time I post something about what someone thinks their character's relationship with Dola would be like tbh and I welcome that fully).

So like!! Don't worry about your response too much nonnie sdfhjkdg I'm not forcing you to rush, take your time; but know that I think that we'll get somewhere faster with getting to know the similarities and differences between Godtongue and Dola if we have a discussion? ;w; Especially if I'm going to be your guinea pig for trying out different way(s) of presenting her, because contrary to what a lot of people seem to think here, I'm not actually that smart when it comes to learning about a character >.>;;

Anyway uh, back to Dola?

I'm honestly so super flattered that you think all that sdhjkd Like it makes me feel like I'm doing something right with writing Dola, y'know? Because whenever I write her I tend to hope that I'm showing people someone very flawed and very human. There is plenty that she struggles with, and I don't want people to think that those struggles are in any way beautiful or to be romanticized. Bittersweet is a nice way to put it, yeah. I think there's something both wonderful and horrific about how she goes about trying to make the most of her life throughout the eras of it because honestly, I don't think she has any major long term goals beyond just trying to have a happy existence.

You mentioned not having pieced together what Dola's goal is, and I'm assuming you mean a long term overarching goal that bears some significance and influence to her actions overall.

The thing is, I think many of her goals fall into place throughout the course of her very long life. She does eventually find an identity separate from her parents both as a person and as an artist—something that becomes easily the more of her life she lives away from them (and also, well, spoilers but they die before she's 40 so she definitely outgrows them in many ways); she eventually becomes a sorcerer of high enough skill to stand alongside Solomon and even excels beyond him in certain fields; she eventually even comes to terms with accepting that allowing oneself to breathe will not undo all the work she's done. Like, she does reach points of satisfaction throughout her life, but it doesn't exactly take very long until there is something else that she wants, something else that grabs her attention and points her to direct her efforts and growth towards whatever it is.

But in immortality, I think she does eventually run out of things to aim for. I mean, the most impossible thing out of everything she wanted to achieve actually turns out to be possible—where does she go from there?

The lack of anything to aim for does eventually get to Dola. There are definitely times when she struggles, like really struggle, when it comes to dealing with her immortality. But she refuses to call for death and die. She knows there is nothing for her after death (or at least thinks it—I may or may not do something with the demon!Dola AU who knows) and still finds a lot of joy in simply living her life with her found family. There is still plenty to learn, plenty to discover.

In her crisis I think it occurs to her that perhaps she must imagine Sisyphus happy. And it's a strange change, but is enough to keep her sustained in between the times when there is nothing grand to chase.

(Of course, I think there is a goal of some form that she doesn't quite recognize in the form of a devotion to the one other human who understands what she's going through. Like, as much as it feels weird to admit on here, even though she and Satan have been through so much together and well, even though I made her for Satan, in the long run I think it's Solomon who becomes a source of major comfort that Satan just can't offer because immortality is inherent to him and his society. Solomon is human with a much greater capacity for empathy than Dola has, and has been through the some of the worst of immortality already all alone. And when humanity ends and the earth is consumed by what was once the sun, and the Devildom has offered asylum for the two, it just... Bonds them together in such a crazy way. Idk.

I mean, she still loves Satan with all her heart and the two have a special bond that is completely different from what she and Solomon have. But it's hard to deny the differences, and I can see the two tearfully discussing their feelings regarding it in private at some point far down the timeline of Dola's life. Btw I don't think the brothers + royals ever die unless killed. Because I said so.)

Ah, re: her name tho! I don't think it's ever an intentional choice for 'Dolasach' to become the only name she's known by over the years—it just happens. In my head half her family all go by similar single-word aliases when working, and some of them also choose to just introduce themselves as their art alias because they like the sound of it better. Fully think her father's side started the tradition with like, the great-grandmother and then the next generation, then the next, then until Dola and her cousins. I don't think there's any deep reason as to why she started introducing herself as Dolasach either cause I fully believe her father + his siblings all helped pick out possible aliases for her and her cousins to choose from at some point and she thought 'Dolasach' sounded best and started using it everywhere that didn't need her legal/birth name. From there it just stuck as she doesn't really see much difference between her as an artist + her as herself.

Is it weird? Kinda but idk, they're artists that's my their excuse lmao

(Before I end this very long answer, I like to think that this is where Satan and Dola's problems with their identity differ. I think Satan's stems from not wanting to be thought of as a mere fragment of Lucifer and a deep dread of any confirmation that that's all he is, that his efforts are inevitably pointless because his origin means that his life will always revolve around the fact that he was born from Lucifer's wrath; he will always be less, he will always be linked, he will always be questioning whether he is merely the part of Lucifer that loathes himself personified. Dola's issues stem from her knowing she is different and wishing so desperately that people would see and recognize that. That the fruits of her labor stop being attributed to being part of her family that she loathes and dismissed as something inherent to her bloodline. She's also sick of being seen and used as a gateway to accessing her older relatives because it makes her feel like no one gives a shit about what she does.

I guess in short, I think Satan's battle is more with himself because I honestly think he's likely already killed everyone who's so much as whispered about comparing him to Lucifer so mostly, the main voice left belittling him the most is his own (and sometimes the brothers I guess, who seem to endlessly favor Lucifer more despite Satan being considerably nicer and more active in helping them out on the day to day?); Dola's battle, least by the time she's in the Devildom, is more with everyone else, and that's why she was able to help Satan deal with his issues. She's already been through the whole 'am I just them but shitter/what is my inherent worth/who am I without them' ordeal and can help him to some extent, at least.)

OKAYYY. I’ve been playing final fantasy x and here are some preliminary thoughts after like a hard won 4ish hours in 🫠

It was a huge leap to start this game just because 1) I don’t play games like this period (rpg fighters) and have even less experience than any other type of game I ever played and 2) there’s truly nothing more intimidating to me than the final fantasy franchise.. like it only won out over me trying out kingdom hearts because I didn’t feel like doing the punch _ button for _ move type fighting in a game just yet lol. BUT WHATEVER! It has been my goal this year anyway to try games out of my comfort zone (80% of games out there lol) so here I am…

I think the world-building is very appealing!! look I have never in my life even tried looking up final fantasy lore or anything I think I just know Sephiroth and the big ducks maybe but regardless I loved the 5 seconds we got in Zanarkand just because a fantasy steampunk-esque world can be charming.. and exploring the 1000yrs later world and it’s differences is also very interesting. I think I spent half of my hours just talking to everybody I saw and looking at the world textures lol it’s nice and peaceful most of the time

I love the cast a lot.. playing as Tidus kind of surprised me because I think I’m not used to fully formed playable main characters like him (was thinking Link or a fire emblem protag rip) but I LOVE HIM!!!! HES SO GOOFY AND CHARMING and I am so endeared by the voiceover narration (ummm his future self??) and where the story is taking him. He and Yuna are so sweet and cute. I actually really love that not ever cutscene was there to move the plot??? Like the one first boat scene where Tidus stole some guys binoculars and was monkeying around on the ship. Or this one 🥺😭💗

SO PRECIOUS!!! It’s how I know something horrible is going to come regarding them 🧎Well for now I’m just in for the ride. The other guardians are definitely a ragtag bunch but I really appreciated how they were fleshed out in this narrative. I like the big wolf beast guy and I will tell you every time I get a chance I try to get Tidus to go talk to him and every time I get ignored 🥲 ONE DAY!!!! And I love theeee goth woman supreme Lulu even her name is so cute. Love her little doll. She saves my ass every single fight I swear. Wakka is also charming in his own way lol he reminds me of a character I just don’t know who.. he and Lulu having their josei romance drama in the backdrop of this story also gets meeeee. Like!?? Look at them wtf…

Ok ok now about the fighting itself: it’s not as bad as I thought. It’s still not something I really have come to look forward to though, and I really really despise the mechanic where you’re walking and get a randomized battle out of nowhere. The Pokémon grass effect whatever you call it…. IM SICK OF IT!!!! LET ME RUN AWAY!!! especially when I’ve had like 3 fights in a row and that stupid breaking glass effect comes and I have to fight again. Oh save me. im not built for this. HOWEVER. Besides that. It’s okay. Figuring out what moves I should be doing isn’t all that difficult even if I do kind of just guess most of the time. I’m lucky I’m using an emulator and saving as much as I can in case I need to reload during a battle. I’ll be okay lol I just want to complain sometimes just cuz. 😖

And finally…. The one thing I did not expect to encounter in this game and genuinely made me want to QUIT this game for good despite everything positive above: BLITZBALL. WHY DO YOU EXIST. WHY. I CANT STAND THIS SHIT!!!!!!!!

This funny scene made me laugh when I first saw it because I literally thought blitzball games would play out like that first cutscene in Zanarkend - AS A CUTSCENE!!! TIDUS YOULL LOSE I HAVE NO SKILL YOULL LOSE TIDUS!!!!!!!

I will admit now I didn’t know wtf I was doing on that boat and totally failed at getting the Jecht shot but how??? Was I supposed to know????? I THOUGHT IT WOULD JUST LEAD TO A FUN MINIGAME how was I to know it was life or death (in blitzball)…. I did Google whether I needed it to win and results varied. But before I get judged I spent about 40 min trying to grasp the entire blitzball tutorial and things still didn’t wrap around until I began playing and EVEN THEN I wanted to cry and rage quit. Something I have never needed to do in all my life!!!!!! Then I thought fine whatever I’ll just let the game do it’s thing and maybe try to give the ball to Tidus as much as possible if that’s my only shot and lord almighty I couldn’t even get one point in. The ai would score so much and I swear I paid attention. Imagine me mid game pausing just to google 10+ year old forum answers on whether I can just do the bare minimum and still win. I don’t even think I needed to win??? But the other team was so mean to us …. LIKE I WANTED TO WIN….. but I’m not capable of it. I knew it when I first started the tutorial too versus the real game I truly am so disinterested in this kind of minigame (the least mini of mini games I’ve ever played ever) that I don’t care. Like I’m just so so frustrated that it’s 3am im writing this post just to vent about how I want to keep playing ffx but not at the cost of this stupid side game that shouldn’t even take me more than 15 min to play!!!!!

I should’ve known from this part in the tutorial that this was bullshit fr. Look I know its not like all of the mechanics were rocket science, if I took 1 day to actually study the game I would BUT WHY WOULD I DO THAT. WHY WOULD I WASTE MY TIME AND DO THAT. I am just so put off at this point from this game simply because of blitzball. Sorry to Tidus and his quest for home and all but it will not come true because I cannot stand playing blitzball. 🤬

Where i am now: I paused at the end kinda when Wakka comes in at the end of the game. I couldn’t score a single point so it was just left at 2-0. I really don’t care anymore I will just lose the game because I’m sick of it. But damn I was really trying okay. Kinda. I hate being petty but we’ll see if I want to even pick it up as a whole game again when I wake tmrw after this experience lol

To be extremely honest I kinda began ffx as a total “wouldn’t it be funny if?” type game for me because I know what I like and dislike in games and this one bordered that for me so I was genuinely curious to see how far I’d last. But this blitzball game is so far into my dislikes that it actually bums me out because the storytelling is so in my lane. I don’t want to quit just yet but I will say now if blitzball gets any worse I’m out. That truly is my last straw lmao. Also it seems like a very long game otherwise and even that is a struggle for me to comprehend. Plus battles are even going to get worse and I can barely slide by during those… idk it is looking grim for the mariel partakes in final fantasy era 😭

Putting this all under a read-more because its long as fuck lmao. But yes! I do have a backstory :))

So! I actually have a few different concepts for my backstories! The main plot I actually have a(n unfinished) fic for!

The basic idea is my insert (Kurt) moves to a new town a few years after the events of PS. The plot roughly follows the love conquers all route. Like Pico was able to talk Cassandra and her gang out of their initial plan but you can tell she's like one mild inconvenience away from doing it all again. Everyone is alive albeit mildly unhinged.

Back when I was first introduced to PS I actually had a dream Cassandra hit me with a car so I kinda wrote that into the self ship lore. Sounds weird but trust me I make it work

She hits him with a car (that isn't hers). She learns they have a lot im common, they become friends, she realizes she likes the little emo bastard, she lets him know she's an alien and he's chill about it, they kiss, pretty typical stuff tbh.

Now while my insert's plot doesn't follow the main ps timeline I fucking love the angst some of these ideas have. I also wanted to make a chart to make it somewhat more easy to follow.

The plot where they don't meet is obviously kinda boring so I'll talk about it first to get it out of the way. She's dead. He doesn't meet the iconic goth alien. They don't smooch. The end. (Tbh if I ever start self shipping with any other PS/PS adjacent characters I feel like this would be where my insert goes off and smooches some other characters)

I feel like the "fine red mist" ending would be closest to the game? Like the death part anyways.

In both of the non boring original timeline endings Cassandra is very dishonest about what it is she's doing. She realizes Kurt fucking despises how flawed the American education system is and has a general hatred for authority figures and makes her plan seem less like a massacre and more like a really big protest. He isn't given a gun or anything but he is the one who was told to chain the doors shut

As the name implies, Kurt in fact does get blown up in this ending. Again this ending plays out the most like the games. She doesn't shoot Kurt like she does Spike and Pierre but he does still end up dying whenever the back wall collapses in a very bloody cartoonish fashion. Pico ends up killing Cassandra and saves the day. The end :))

Anyways the partners in crime ending is a bit less developed you could say? Like Cassandra does still flat out lie about her intentions with the school and acts very recklessly with the lives of the rest of the goths, but instead twords the end she's like "Erm actually fuck this I'm getting out of here," and basically takes Kurt and goes into hiding right before they are killed in the final boss fight. But weirdly enough Kurt is fine with all of this and just kinda goes along with it. They run from the law and r fucked up evil cycle paths together 💔💔💔. The end.

There's definitely some holes but that's the basic idea plus some extra plot stuff!!

-I WANT LORE ON THE BARGAINER STATUES SO BAD. Who built them? Who made their bodies so damn big? Were they made at all, or are they just like. Weird fossilized spirits? Why are there inexplicably two smaller, head-only versions(possibly more I am unaware of) hanging out on the surface? I know Josha's was probably recovered from the depths directly but what about the one in the Great Plateau? WHAT IS THEIR DEAL I WANNA KNOW PLS I AM BEGGING

-i really just am completely obsessed with Josha, bc she really reminds me exactly of how I've imagined my OC Calli would behave if I put her in this universe. It's quite funny honestly, how entirely similar they are, down to the excitability and gullibility.

-i am having a lot of fun figuring out how my OC Koro fits into the story. So much to consider! granted im having to redo quite a bit of the stuff i established in botw, but hey, sequels, amirite? i'll need to update her writeup when i can. i can say definitively that she and Sidon split up(obviously) but she ended up with her old childhood/teen friend Grante(who now goes by Granteson, which i love lol), and she's super close with Josha, who reminds her of her passed sister.

-i love that you can ride on the dragons now. especially now that i know the origin of the Light Dragon, i like to imagine Link, though he's not much of a talker, takes to riding her around Hyrule and just, tells her how everyone's doing, and how much they miss her. i'm currently sat on her head so i can farm dragon parts and it always makes me sad lol

-i am still having WAY more fun in the Depths than i am in the Sky Islands lol. i have probably a good 70% of the lightroots activated at this point? im mostly just trying to find all of those before i really get to properly exploring.

-i have all the main quests finished up to what i assume will be the final fight against Ganondorf. THIS GAME GIVES YOU A FUCKIN ROBIT HELL YEAH. also i love having all the sages unlocked bc you can just gang up on any creature in hyrule and it fucks.

-still havent gone up against a Gleeok proper yet, though. they scare the shit out of me lmfao. too stronk.

-the return of Puppet Zelda has been a great touch, and without her narration, the blood moon is even spookier imo. just silence, and then monsters reanimating. oof.

-the Frox down in the Depths are interesting to me. they dont do Gloom damage like almost every enemy down there, which implies they might be the only native creature to the Depths? very fascinating!

i think his talents would involve extra damage + prio unblocked enemies + his source of crowd control. his CC would be strictly bind, not RNG like aak, because his arts are specifically grappling hook/rope shit. i think i've been theoretically calling this talent and arts type "tethering." in lore he mainly uses it for traversal, but there's no reason it wouldn't work on people, too, so i think it fits best as a crowd control bind. one of his skills would then just do a "talent trigger increase" as part of their functionality meaning extra bind chance. of course, how useful he would actually be as a concept depends on the numbers, which is the part i'm bad at, but still, fun to think about :]

for other operators, he would definitely get on well enough with some of the cooks among the RI operators, for one. his favorite flavor of sweet thing is cinnamon, and cinnamon is easy to incorporate into things, and he's smart enough to be polite to the people feeding his interests. he would also, i think, have interesting but awkward interactions with the iberians, because while he is not himself iberian, he has traveled extensively there and shares memories of the profound silence/aftermath thereof with Andoain. ultimately, i think he's polite to most everyone he runs into if he were to go to RI, but he's already rather closed off as a person and you have to open him up with a crowbar, so i don't know if anyone could be considered a friend of his. i don't even think fiammetta is really a friend of his (he would call it that, but that's far from correct), more that they have similar enough feelings on a specific topic that leads them to cooperate. i think even increasing trust with him still leaves a lot under the surface.

other shealtiel facts...he prefers cats to dogs but understands the appeal of both, but his favorite animals are birds. being a sniper, he sees a lot of them, and spends a lot of time in places birds nest. i imagine lateran schools have a class on religion similar to catholic school (where i have unfortunately been), and that was his favorite subject because his mother was a canonist and spent most of her time analyzing the scriptures and teachings of lateran. he's surprisingly flexible because of this- he actually idealogically overlaps with andoain more than he'd like to admit, he just hates the man's methods. and life choices. when he's on the road he survives off of breakfast bars and terran poptarts. he prefers chilly weather to heat, but hates heavy snow. he has a halfway decent singing voice but never uses it outside of when he's free enough to attend a lateran service. his plan for immediately after achieving his goal (killing andoain with fia) is to take a vacation somewhere cold-but-not-too-cold and isolated and not answer his messages for six to seven months. he's still on the fence about where, though. he would do that right now if he didn't have duties to fulfill. his favorite mixed drink is a gingerbread gin and tonic (g&t + baking spice infused amaretto.) his favorite non-alcoholic drink is cranberry juice. he's become partial to a dying brand of iberian cookies because andoain likes them and he's started buying them up ahead of him out of a petty sort of spite.

SSS really does hate snipers which sucks b/c i do love me a sniperknights. chalter doesn't fall off quite as bad as some because she's useful for bosses but it's still Bad. i still bring snipers for the aspd buffs, but most of them just arent gonna hold up too much. sad :( gj with mandra! she's annoying but at least in her actual boss levels that aren't TFN you get the automatic pillar destroyers. good luck on chapter 9 when you get there :]

I've been thinking of possible lore for the fucking Cat nightstalker for a while (that I should really make more art of). So, because I just feel like it the Cat nightstalker will be from Texas because why not, Fallout is just like that so I feel I can do whatever I want. Anyway, so Texas, because I like to hc that all of my OCs go there after the main events of the games they are from take place because that is where they are all originally from (I only have two really though, one from New Vegas and one from FO4).

The Cat nightstalker will be one of those creatures found there and like most things in the wasteland that are weird like that I figured they should come from a vault. The idea is still being explored but the basic idea is a scientist who was approached by Vault Tec to work for them & agreed only because they "offered" protection for the scientists family which, yes, was a false claim but I will get to that later. Anyway, to connect some FNV lore the scientist either very temporarily worked for/with the Think Tank or were at least aware of each others work because in my story I basically HC that the Think Tank scientist who created the Nightstalker (Im not bothering with googling that to remind myself who) basically just ripped off the idea from my scientist who actually originally was inspired to create the creature from their daughters drawing from when she was little and expressed how she thought something like it would be "so cool". I haven't come up with a real reason past that but I think it should have valid scientific reasoning behind it like maybe the scientist was trying to come up with ways to enhance creatures to ensure better survival if the bombs did drop? Idk, I just came up with that so it's probably not good but I'm brainstorming still & not the main point.

But yeah, my scientist who originally came up with the idea was kind of known for it, and is why they were approached by Vault Tec to work for one of their Vaults. The Vault in question is named after Noah's arch or *insert better/clever name here* and as you guessed housed two of "everything" (not literally everything since that would be kind of impossible OR there WAS literally two of everything & maybe just the housing conditions of these animals was awful considering they were more of meant for experimentation then for indefinite confinement & it's FO so I can be as ridiculous as I want with lore & also it's not like all them are alive after the bombs drop & after a couple of centuries & or some other thing I haven't come up with). I haven't decided on whether this specific division of Vault tech is actually religious or if the name is nothing more then a name for the experimentation taking place but I feel either could work.

The scientist, my OC scientist, agreed to work for them mainly because of the guaranteed shelter in a different Vault for their family & because they were going to be doing science stuff that they were interested in & not much else, maybe the pay was good too idk I don't think it matters (the Vault the scientist is working in is/was not made to hold more people & were even shown the Vault their family would be staying in beforehand which is mainly why they even agreed to work for Vault Tec). The scientist, after agreeing ends up picking up on some concerning red flags while working or preparing to work down in the Vault but because they were doing this mainly to ensure their families safety & well being & being distracted by the work they didn't bother with questioning it.

Then the bombs drop and as soon as the Vault is closed is when the scientist learns that ANOTHER scientist is actually working in the Vault as well (what a coincidence)! This concerning the scientist even more but it's not like they can do anything about it considering the bombs have dropped & it's unlikely they can leave so they feel there is no point in further questioning why they weren't told they have a colleague.

So after X amount of years of working down in the Vault and more and more questionable stuff keeps happening eventually one day shit hits the fan when our Scientist finds out that they were in fact basically lied too about the Vaults actual experiment being conducted and that the scientists were even a part of the experiment (who would have guessed?). So yeah, our Scientist isn't happy about this and decides "fuck this I'm out" and tries to leave the Vault which no one really wants considering it hasn't been that long since the bombs dropped so there is fighting, violence etc.

Let's jump forward to present day wasteland (whatever year I decide Fallout Texas should take place which will be sometime not too too too long after the events of FNV & FO4). If this was a Fallout game this would be the year the game starts in, and along the way you find, besides Cat Nightstalkers (no that isn't their final name but I'm shit with names as you should be able to deduced by now after), in the lovely Irradiated Star State is the Vault that held our Scientist! Upon coming up to the Vault you find it completely open, assuming most likely its an abandoned one or that it's a trap either way if you decided to go in you find not only nightstalker cats roaming to and from the area, sleeping, etc you come across a ghoul preoccupied with whatever they are working on.

If you decide to talk to the ghoul in question they will tell you that they are a scientist who worked there, specifically our Scientist! Our Scientist doesn't mention much, and at best barely acknowledges your existence and not much more happens and if you don't bother with exploring the Vault you would think there wasn't much more to this area. However, with a decent enough Perception and exploring the Vault you can get much more added dialogue to talk more with the Ghoul. If you don't find everything though you might not get the full picture of what happened/what's going on. The first bits of info and "clues" are easy enough to find, but the last one, the big one, will require more searching around (maybe it's like a puzzle or something). Either way, if you end up finding out about the last bit of info you can confront the ghoul about it and learn the Ghoul is in fact the daughter of the Scientist and not our original scientist who worked there. You learn various things from her after this, you learn about how the Vault that Vault tec promised the scientist would be for their family was in fact not for them but a vault for a diff experiment and that they were denied access to it and while she survived and became a ghoul her other parent did not. Vault tec not only did this but also apparently less then a month after the two Scientists left to start work at the Vault, notified the spouses that their loved ones did not wish to see them anymore & that they were now involved with their colleague. The spouse of our Scientist didn't believe this but Vault tec gave them their spouses wedding ring back as proof (which they got underhandedly) and considering the scientists were under contract to have no outside communication after starting work at the Vault it was impossible to confirm one way or the other. Still, at least one of the spouses (our Scientist spouse) wasn't buying it and was becoming a nuisance for Vault Tec which they accounted for and presented the spouse with hard to argue "proof". This kind of breaking the spouse and making the daughter resent their scientist parent and why she didn't bother with trying to find her other parent/the Vault they worked for at first. Eventually though she does decided to go check it out, and she learns after exploring it everything that happened in it after reading her scientist parents daily logs and how they were lied to as well, how they were used by Vault Tec and how their parent never stopped thinking about them, mentioning them almost every page and their wife mentioned almost as often. This making her feel guilty for ever doubting her parent and feeling like she could have done something if she had known to help her parent out even though realistically there wasn't much she could have really done outside of the Vault but because she witnessed her other parent die due to radiation sickness she can't help but feel survivors guilt. So she made it her mission to carry out her father's research even though she herself wasn't a scientist and had a high school education at best (she was teen when the bombs dropped). She was determined though and devoted day in and out to studying to take over her parents work.

So after everything is over and you learn all of this your given an option in game to either talk her down from being a scientist, to get her to move on from what happened and to stop blaming herself and to tell her to take some time to figure out who she is and not just being a copy of her deceased parent, or you can tell her its admirable she is continuing their work which opens you up to a quest to help her with what she was doing when you first walked in, or you can tell her to give up and that its all pointless basically (which just makes her hostile). The first two have specific rewards for each, and obviously not gaining anything besides xp for the third.

#also yeah i know i didnt go into what the actual or more correctly #the main experiment vault tec was doing was but like i said some things are still rough with this idea & that part still is #i feel like its basically hinted at a bit though #i dont know if this any good or not but i figured writing it down would help me iron out a tad bit more of the details #oh & yeah the cat night stalkers came from this vault #she basically treats them like her pets she is the crazy nightstalker cat lady #shes made various mixes as well or various cat breeds with various diff snakes #& also a lot of the animals kept in the vault died but some are still alive #some were already dead when she got there since no was alive to vheck up and take care of them #the few left are ones you can help her with if you go that route with having her stay being a scientist at the vault #... okay i think that all the ideas i had for this for now #well actually no that i lie i had one more idea for lore buuuuuuttttttttttt i think it could wait #im not set on it so i dont really share just yet #although i did think of one extra thing i can share... some of the animals were DEFINITELY killed for food at some point when the vault was #closed shut for whatever reason possibly due to shortage of food or somone just doing it because they can et #coming back to this post late u can definitely tell i kind of made this up on the spot lol #it haa potential it VERY rough right now & very open to change

The way everyone is so friendly with Karna and not Arjuna is weird to me because lore-wise wasn't it Arjuna who was loved by everyone and Karna everyone was weary of cause he was this weird piebald burnt guy who was always being rude? (I know he didn't mean it it was just no social skills but still he's known for saying things people aren't happy to hear! It's literally a skill!)

yeah its definitely strange. especially because arjuna's whole 'dark side' thing is meant to be...more of a secret? like in his bond profile it mentions he loved his brothers, parents, and people and was loved in return, 'and yet...' which implies that a lot of his problems were something that he did/does his best to conceal from others. so like why do so many of his interactions have this undercurrent of hostility from the other side? like do they know? like he's definitely standoffish, don't get me wrong, but that doesn't explain why other servants don't seem to like him. i feel like i read somewhere that masters can find his personality to be tension inducing despite how passive and butler-like he can be, but i can't find it now, although im sure some of that is due to his reticence to being understood.

AT THE SAME TIME

he's literally never followed through with this stated declaration of killing people who have seen his true face?

we've seen him with two masters- hakuno and ritsuka, and while he sort of just keeps hakuno at arms length the entire time ritsuka basically sees everything and he literally is just like ':( sorry you had to see that' and they work it out. like for as much as they keep harping on about how he'd kill someone who'd try to find out his true nature or DID find out his true nature he's never even threatened us. like. its a defense mechanism.

and then in comparison we have karna, who is SUPPOSED to suffer from foot-in-mouth syndrome, but someone who's supposed to be this sarcastic, snippy warrior who while having people's best interests at heart isn't usually able to express that and usually creates more misunderstandings than he can clear up doesnt often DO that...like why couldn't we have gotten an interlude where we cleared up some issue that he created by accident and couldn't figure out what went wrong? why can't we have him be a bitch now and then? and why does EVERYONE sans arjuna like him, there should be SOME people who are at the very least more hooked up on etiquette or something who feel like he insulted them or something, or are just 'eh' about him. at the very least it seems very strange to tell us arjuna is loved more than karna and then show us the complete opposite.

and ik that some people have said the nezha line is like, they admire arjuna but it really feels like it could go either way? i can see why you'd say that but when you see what they say for karna in comparison it feels much less starstruck. arjuna makes them nervous and they feel (sympathy most likely) for karna like.... :/ ok well why dont u go marry him then.

scathach's comment in e pluribus unum is something else i wanted to bring up and am using this as an excuse to, bc i saw someone mention it was probably more a combination of her teacherly tendencies+ the fact his heart wasn't in what he was doing in america, and I do actually agree with that! its just...we don't ever really get anything to refute her/show IN TEXT that that's what's going on. he does destroy 29 demon pillars at once (SEXY AS HELL I MIGHT ADD) but that's with pashupata, and scahatch is built up as this incredibly big badass who's basically the top dog when it comes to fighting, and her comment does come off as a bit... eh... dismissive? of a guy who's supposed to be one of the best archers in the world? who's been practicing archery since he was a small child? at the very least it would've been nice if we'd gotten a scene later where she DID acknowledge him once he left the celtic side, but i guess that would've been asking too much

This is a series of asks bc, while I do LIKE all the charas of Fantastic Beasts individually, much of the romantic pairings dont sit well with me. By that mean the messy love polygon w Newt & I think I finally figured out why & I'd like another's opinion on it. For starters, Newt's attraction with Tina is too fast for me considering he was friends w Leta, got expelled out of Hogwarts for Leta, carried Leta's photo in his case, & basically loved her for YEARS. But this is all undone by a [1]

jaunt in NY having met a woman, who he admittedly went on a huge adventure w, over the course of maybe a few weeks. He's so taken w her she replaces Leta's photo w her own &, after refusing to go to Paris for Dumbledore, leaves immediately once he finds out she's there. I just find this unbelievable. I can rationalize it from Newt's perspective where Tina is a fresh breeze sweeping into his life on (percieved) unrequited pining, but this is my conjecture based on my understanding of Newt. [2]

The audience shouldnt be left to rationalize endgame couple of the mc on their own. & the whole thing w Leta is so messily handled I dont think they can save it even if they bring her back in FB3. How she feels for Newt vs Theseus & unresolved lingering affection, etc. She & Newt were SO important to each other & we SEE that & they dont HAVE to get together, but they need proper resolution bc they have actual history between them. God Leta in general deserved so much better. [3]

But my main gripe is that this love polygon serves no purpose to what I believe is the main selling point of FB: the world. HP having love stories makes sense bc we're following the story of a boy as he goes through adolescence & his journey through that via school is part of that, which is why the romance feels fitting. It's a very personal story. FB on the otherhand is the best peak we have at the wider wizarding world beyond school. HP introduces the world of magic, but FB rlly expands it [4]

To that end Jakob & Queenie's relationship is the only one I find myself liking, bc it's deeply tied to the world setting, the series' biggest selling point (in my opinion, should have said this earlier). It underscores the attitudes of the period & the conflict they face feels suitably substantial & not like filler. There's a moral question between them of are they worth it? And how far should they go to be together?

Imma be real hear & say FB2 was rlly Queenie's movie & they should have been ballsy & just make Queenie the mc for FB2, bc her story was actually considerably more important to the overall development of the story than Newt's, which mostly came off as a rushed & a tad clichè soap drama. & making it about Queenie I think builds more room for good conflict & independent narrative for Tina that would serve her chara better. [5? 6?]

If I bad to be REAL ballsy, I'd say my big issue w/ the relationships in the FB series & how it enhances or impedes the main story & what I believe to be it's biggest attracter (the setting) could have been solved if they made Newt's romantic interest a muggle. It attaches a deeper meaning & relevance to them & the story so it felt more deeply that they truly moved WITH the narrative rather than beside it but I guess Im just picky. Yeah, pretty much all of this is right.

Regarding the Tina thing, it was definitely rushed, especially since there was literally nothing romantic between them in the whole first movie, except maybe the end part where they're stumbling over their words. Despite knowing how movies work and knowing that they were the male and female lead, I still found that completely out of left field, because they don't really share any interests and I didn't feel like they felt anything in particular for each other before that. She really wants to be an auror and feels really intensely about it; he just wants to travel the world and write about magical creatures and take care of them. I don't see a lot of compatibility there, and the movie didn't really do anything to reconcile that gap.

Jacob and Queenie made sense, because they actually sowed some seeds for it. It's not even about the fact that they both like to cook; they showed an interest in each other throughout. They noticeably like each other. Newt and Tina never really had that, to me, so it was bizarre for her to become his primary motivation in the second movie.

Queenie's trajectory in movie 2 overall bothers me, so while I agree it would have been better if they'd centered it more around her, I definitely think they needed to drastically rewrite pretty much everything she did. Enchanting Jacob at the beginning never sat well with me; I usually only have to say this in the Descendants fandom, but if one half of the ship is magical and the other half isn't, we can't have the magical one enchanting the non-magical one for romantic reasons without addressing what a violation of trust that is. Like, Jacob would be justified for never trusting her again, over that. Also, the fact that she apparently holds it against people if they think bad things about her is not something I would expect from someone who has been a Legilimens as long as she has, and not a detail I like, at all. Especially since it was used to give her justification to be mad at Jacob after she enchanted him in the first place. I find it sad, because Queenie was definitely my favorite character in the first movie. (Also, joining Grindelwald was a nonsensical thing to do. I can only assume she's there to spy on him or something, because it makes literally no sense.)

As for Leta, I really don't like how that was approached. First of all, I don't like how their mention of her in the first movie was "She was a taker; you need a giver," because once we actually met the character, that only made me resent Queenie for representing her that way. Leta deserved better in pretty much every way, and they definitely shouldn't have killed her off like that. I find the whole situation really iffy from a racial standpoint. The first black character to be written three-dimensionally in all of HP lore, and they make sure to preemptively tell the audience that she's a "taker", kill her in the same movie we meet her, and manage to trivialize her death by turning it into a little "Who was she saying 'I love you' to?" mystery. I like her relationship with Newt and Theseus, and I'd definitely want to see more of it.

Yes, it definitely would have been better, thematically, if they'd made the love interest a Muggle. (I'd honestly say they should've paired Newt with Jacob, but I know they're unwilling to do that. That would be kind of cool, though, to see the movie shaping up with two male characters and two female characters and have the men end up with each other and the women just live their lives as humans.)

With the story they ended up telling, though, I don't think that is needed; since Queenie is already dealing with the wizard/Muggle storyline, Newt could have a different conflict. Maybe his love interest should be a werewolf or something, to tie in the wizarding world's unresolved dislike for "half-breeds". And if he were in a relationship with someone already regarded as a creature, the wider wizarding world might take a different view to his studies and look down on him a lot more. Idk, a thought.

And then, with Leta/Theseus and Grindelwald/Dumbledore (if they were willing to actually deal with that), they'd pretty much hit every controversial beat they've got: wizard/Muggle, wizard/"half-breed", interracial, homosexual. Credence and Nagini are both creatures, kind of, but I still like them together, so their relationship doesn't have to tie into any theme; it just has to be developed way more.

On the whole, Crimes of Grindelwald felt like they skipped a movie. It feels like they needed a middle installment to make these relationships happen, instead of jumping from "Do Newt and Tina maybe have feelings for each other?" to "Newt loves Tina and Tina is possessive enough of Newt to be outwardly upset with him when she thinks he's engaged to someone else," and creating a whole relationship between Credence and Nagini that we see none of.

The fact that Queenie and Jacob were done well in the first movie gives me a fair amount of goodwill for them, but that goodwill only offers enough cushioning from the botching that movie 2 did that I'm near-indifferent to the ship, now, instead of actively opposed. I'd like to see things improved, but as it currently stands, I'd be just as happy seeing them end up not together as together. The fact that Leta's relationships with Newt and Theseus were more interesting than any of the aforementioned makes it that much more ridiculous that they killed her. What ship am I supposed to care about how? If I can't go into the next movie delusionally hoping Newt and Leta will get some moments, or enjoying the Theseus and Leta content, then I'll just be sitting there waiting for Credence and Nagini to share a screen, and who knows when that'll happen?
