I do think the character beats/foreshadowing for the twins in ep3 work especially well if you take s1 into account. A lot of Vex's arc in s1 was spent establishing her as being compulsively self-reliant and hostile to outsiders, eg stating that she and Vax should leave when they were under house arrest in the keep and lashing out at Keyleth when she saw Vax getting invested in that relationship. It makes it really clear that 1. Vex highly prioritizes her and Vax's relationship but also that 2. Like much of her actual feelings, she doesn't show her fear that she will lose that relationship in the most straightforward way. This allows for s2 to dive headlong into exploring how terrified Vax is of losing Vex and how much he believes their relationship is this one-sided dependence of him feeling lost without her but Vex being completely alright without him, while providing us the baseline understanding that this isn't quite the case. It's more that their personalities are extremely different and they've responded to the way they were treated when they were young in very different ways. Vax wears his heart on his sleeve and is completely open about who he cares about, cutting Syldor out without a second thought and explicitly laying out to Vex over and over again how important she is to him. Vex puts a perfectly strong and composed face over everything, tries to salvage things when she can, holds herself together so nobody can see whatever she's feeling underneath. It's easy to think Vex doesn't need Vax as much as he needs her with that facade, but because we already got to see an entire season of her reflexively protecting that relationship and lashing out in fear that she'll somehow lose him, you can tell it's actually more that she's practiced at masking any feelings that might make her seem weak, even at the expense of coming off as cruel or uncaring instead.

noticed earlier that greeve's shadowmaster uniform in 2.01 is way more basic than obrecht's was in the first season, with much less complexity in its texture, fabric, and cut - though greeve's does have some elegant-looking folds just beneath the collar (that are only really noticeable when he's shot lol. they catch the light very nicely for a moment)
obvious doylist explanation is that a production as notoriously cash-strapped as foundation is not going to commission a detailed costume for a character who gets less than a minute of screen time. but I do enjoy the watsonian logic of XVII demanding that all servant uniforms be made 75% less cunty and the cleons' outfits 200% more so. anything to prop up imperial pride

Danny’s parents want to kill him and he’s like “f in the chat y’all dinner boutta be so awkward tonight smh”
Ok so I know everyone loves the angsty headcannons where Danny is terrified of his parents cuz they wanna kill him but we’ve had that hot take since 2005 I’m here for a source material revival, the much more entertaining “Danny’s parents want to kill him and he actively doesn’t give a fuck”
CUZ UH, IM REWATCHING THE FIRST SEASON AND I FORGOT HOW GENUINELY BLASÉ HE IS ABOUT MADDIE AND JACK TRYING TO GET HIS ASS ITS SO FUNNY.
Like mom holding a literal ghost gun to his head: eh kinda unphased he even has time to quip, his parents say they wanna tear em to pieces: meh see u guys at dinner, LIKE OUR GUY IS SO UNPHASED HE THINKS THIS SHIT IS FUNNY! (s1 ep. 14 public enemy)
And he’s unphased despite knowing his parents tech works and knowing that his mother is actually a good shot. So like I love angst Danny and y’all should keep up the good work but where is my s1 Danny ‘COULDN’T give less of a fuck about his parents’ Fenton representation?
Cuz think of this, for your DPXDC AU consideration, Danny would fit in so well with the bat gang if only because they could try to stab, shoot, capture, brainwash, and stalk him and he’d be like “oh cool villain of the week shit? Nice, what’re we having for lunch.” He. Wouldn’t. Flinch.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“You’re staring,” you could hear the teasing lilt in his voice. You brought your gaze up to his eye level and gave him a small smile that you could just feel him returning from under the helmet.
“I am not,” you stuck out your tongue, but felt the heat rising in your face, “I just happened to be looking in that direction and you happen to take up a lot of room.”
“Hmmm,” he hummed in content as the two of you turned your attention to Grogu, who was running through the flower field, chasing butterflies. He was just too cute and you couldn’t help the small sound that escaped your lips. Din studied you for a moment, watching your face light up with joy, “Grogu.”
The small creature stopped for a moment and looked at the Mandalorian before cooing happily and waddling over to him. You watched as he came closer and plucked a flower and held it out to him. He made a sound of wonder before gently taking it from you.
“Grogu,” he turned towards the sound of his father’s voice, “show her the butterflies.”
He reached for your hand in a clear attempt to get you to follow him. You did so without hesitation and followed after him, laughing as he tried to run as best as he could. He was just so innocent, free, and happy that it made you happy too.
The two of them had been in your life for a few months now, since they’d stopped on Nevarro and decided to take some rest and respite. You were out, going to a cafe with some friends, when you stopped the little guy, distressed and looking for who you learned was his father. You’d reunited them and the rest was history.
You always knew that their presence in your life wasn’t permanent, but you weren’t sure as to its temporariness either. You’d decided that all you could was be there with them and take in all the moments and experiences. The rest would fall into place, one way or another.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“Din?” you stopped washing the dishes and turned to the broad man next to you. He stopped drying the dish in his hand and turned to you, motioning for you to continue on, “I have a stupid question.”
“No such thing,” he insisted and then paused for a moment, “there are stupid questions, but none from you.”
“I could easily change that,” you snorted in amusement, “so I guess you’ll have to give me your opinion after.”
“Okay,” you liked the sound of his soft laugh, and you liked knowing you were the source of it.
“Have you ever considered getting a new cape?” it sounded so incredibly stupid as soon as you said it out loud. Din remained silent for a moment and you felt like you had just asked the dumbed question in the galaxy. You fumbled around for a moment, waving your hands nervously, “you know what? That sounded so stupid even just saying it out loud, so let’s just forget it.”
It was then that he reached over and put his hand on your face, brushing his thumb over your cheek, “it wasn’t a stupid question. It’s just not something I’ve ever been asked before.”
“Really?” the shock on your face was evident - his cape had definitely seen better days. It had permanent stains, rips and tears, and some of the ends were singed. It was more of a tattered piece of fabric than anything.
“Really,” he liked the look of surprise on your face, how your eyes grew wide and lips pulled into a pretty pout, “It’s not really a big deal when you’re…”
“Running around the galaxy and saving everyone?”
“I wouldn't necessarily say everyone,” his cheeks warmed up and he was glad that you couldn’t see his face, or you would have seen his bright red face, “but something like that. Any particular reason why you’re asking?”
“Not really,” you shrugged it off, “just curious.”
“Curiosity is good,” he promised as you nodded shyly and turned back to the dishes, “just ask Grogu.”
As if on cue, the little one looked up from where he was playing on the floor and babbled happily at the two of you. The way Din looked back at him made your ache with realization that you wouldn’t have them in your life anymore.
You pushed it all to the side and reminded yourself not to worry about it. There was no reason to ruin the moment.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You were walking through the markets, Grogu in tow as you picked up some fresh fruits and vegetables…and a little treat for him of course. You kept your pace slow so he could keep up and it was almost too precious.
About halfway through the market, you came across a stall boasting beautiful fabrics and silks. You stopped so suddenly that your companion almost walked into your leg. Reaching down and picking him up, you held him up so he could look at everything along with you.
“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?’ you touched some of the soft looking fabrics, trying to picture them with what you had in mind. He reached towards one of the darker looking fabrics and you nodded in agreement, “I think that’s the one too. It’s pretty, isn’t it?”
He cooed happily as you waved down the vendor and asked for several bolts. You watched him wrap up the fabric and paid for it before slipping it gently into your bag. You knew exactly what you were going to do with it as soon as you got home.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You were practically giddy throughout the entire night and Din could tell that something was up. Just when you almost couldn’t take it anymore, Din unintentionally sped up your little plan.
“Alright, what’s up, Sunshine?” you almost jumped up from your seat as you ran to your room, leaving him watching you in surprise. He exchanged a look with his foundling before they heard running back down the stairs, a small package in your hand.
“This is for you,” you almost shoved the parcel in his hands, practically vibrating with excitement, “it’s nothing much, but I hope you like it.”
“I’m sure it’s going to be great, but you didn’t have to get me anything,” he opened the present slowly and meticulously, making sure not to tear any of the paper or potentially ruin whatever was inside. As soon as he realized what it was, “oh.”
You felt like the life force was draining from your body as your heart plummeted into your stomach. He hated it. You shouldn’t have done this and you really just wanted to slink away and hide.
“D-Din, I’m sorry,” you swallowed thickly, “I didn’t mean to overstep or anything, I just thought it would be nice.”
“What are you sorry for?” he asked, his voice low and soft, “this is…beautiful. You didn’t have to do this.”
“I wanted to,” you promised, relief flooding your body when you realized that he wasn’t upset, “I saw the fabric at the market and thought it was perfect - Grogu agreed.”
“I…thank you,” you could hear the touch of motion in his voice that made your stomach flutter happily, “it’s a really nice gesture. No one’s done this kind of thing for me in a long time.”
“Well,” you tried to play off the rush of emotions and nervously raked your hand through your hair, “you really needed a new cape, so now you have a new one. Just make sure not to ruin it this time, yeah?”
“I promise to do my best,” and you could practically feel the smile that was on his face.
“You haven’t seen the best part,” you reached for Grogu and motioned for him to climb into your lap. Once he did, you pointed to his little back where you’d draped a matching little cap over his shoulders, “ta-da!”
“It’s the same,” you nodded as he reached over and touched it softly, “it’s amazing.”
“I couldn’t just make one for you,” you said in a teasing no duh tone, “the clan of two is a package duo.”
“Yes,” he agreed. There wasn’t a world where he couldn’t imagine the little one being a part of his life - he was his son. Part of him also couldn’t imagine a life without you in it either. He’d never expected that much, but now he was going to have to figure it all out, “you’re wonderful.”
“You aren’t so bad either,” you grinned, beaming and lovely and magic, “kinda like you two a lot.”
Yeah. You were going to make things very difficult.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The Mandalorian was practically sweating bullets, hot and warm in his suit as he watched you play with the kid. You could tell that something had been off with him all day, but your mind had been going to the fact that he was going to tell you about his plan to leave. But you didn’t want to face that reality, not yet, and instead focused on being happy with the boys.
Little did you know that it was something entirely different.
“Can we talk?” Din’s voice was gruff as he approached the two of you, causing you to freeze. Uh oh. You didn’t like the sound of this at all.
“Of course,” you stood up and straightened yourself out as you trailed after him. You could see his fist clenching and unclenching as he walked towards the house. He reached into his bag and pulled out a slender wrapped object but didn’t quite hand it to you, “we have to go. There’s some things I still need to do.”
“Oh,” and it felt like your world was crashing around you, “right. Of course. That makes sense.”
“But,” you perked up at the sound of his but, “I won’t ask you to come because I don’t know what it all holds or how dangerous it will get. But if you wanted to, or just wanted to tag along for a little bit I wouldn’t say no-”
“Yes,” there wasn’t a moment of hesitation or questioning behind your answer, “yes.”
He froze for a moment, surprised by your enthusiastic response, but nodded. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He handed you the object that he was holding and you took it gingerly.
When you slowly unwrapped it, you almost laughed at what it was. A vibro-knife, beautifully and intricately carved. It seemed so very on point for it to come from Din. You grinned at him before laughing softly, “a knife?”
“You never know when you’re going to need to protect yourself,” he said sheepishly, “I will try my best to make sure you never have to use it. But just in case.”
“Just in case,” you repeated, “I can handle that.”
“I know you can, Sunshine,” he gently touched your cheek, “you’re sure about this?”
“I’ve never been more sure about anything.”
Things were going to be just fine.

Parallels between Lord Jim and Good Omens (2)
I have rewatched GO2 at least 10 times now (still counting, obvsly), and every time I notice new easter eggs that emerge from the massive web of intertextuality that Neil Gaiman created for us here.
So today, I wanted to focus on the way Aziraphale came up with the “undercover” name “Jim” for Gabriel. He read it on the spine of a book: Lord Jim.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That book was written by Joseph Conrad (a Polish-British writer with dubious ideas about colonialism) and published in 1900. The plot basically follows the life of a young idealistic seaman called Jim who has to defend himself in a trial that concerns a sinking ship which he and other members of the crew abandoned in a storm, leaving it and the helpless passengers to their fate. The ship did not sink in the end, and he was the only member of the crew who was held accountable for his deeds by stripping him off his naval certificate. The trial is where he meets the narrator of the story, Marlow, who is strangely intrigued by the young man, who seems to be engulfed by guilt and shame over his morally wrong decision to leave the boat. The narrator tries to help Jim to his feet and lands him a job as a post manager at some remote colonial outpost. There he becomes a hero by capturing a local bandit. Later he falls victim to a scheme against him, and a pirate raids a neighbouring community and kills the son of their chief, Jim’s close friend. Jim then goes there, and the chief shoots him as a revenge for his son.
I mean, the most obvious parallel is that Gabriel gets named after Jim. He, too, abandoned his ship (Heaven; and the question here is, did he know it might be a sinking ship as well?) and was put on trial and lost his position as archangel before he came to Aziraphale for help. But that’s not all there is to it.
Let us start with the formal (concerning style and structure) aspects:
narrative structure:
“Marlow has complete control over the story … and he exercises his power in increasingly complicated ways. Time is broken up: in a single paragraph of narration, Marlow will reference the past, the present, and the future. By manipulating the flow of the narrative, Marlow is able to create juxtapositions and contrasts that highlight particular aspects of the story. He is a master at withholding information …” (Source: Sparknotes)
As I have already discussed in another post, this is more or less how narrative structure works in GO, too (S2 maybe more than S1, but this still applies to both). We get minisodes from the past that directly reference and juxtapose situations in the story that takes place in the present. Take, for example, the Job minisode, which gives us information about the development of Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship, but we also see how devastating and hard it was for Aziraphale to realise that sometimes he had to lie (or do something considered wrong in heaven) to do the morally right thing. This sequence is juxtaposed with the relative ease he exhibits in the present day when he has to lie to heaven on a regular basis (in this case, about the miracle and hiding Gabriel, which is kind of a big lie, too). The show also plays with our understanding and expectations of how time works, as S2 starts with a scene that takes place “before the beginning,” which undermines dramatic structure as it has been known and accepted since Aristotle. It is also interesting to note that in S1, we have a strong sense of an almighty narrator, since god herself is narrating the whole time and she sure lets us know that she is playing her own ineffable game here. In S2, however, we don’t have a clear narrative voice. This might make it seem like the narration is more neutral or less meddled with, but in reality, it just makes things even less reliable and situations more ambiguous, as we have no single voice to interpret them for us. Someone is definitely “withholding information” here, and I guess we’ll have to wait for S3 to get the full picture.
language/style:
“Marlow constantly ponders the "message"--the meaning of Jim's story. His language is dense with terms like "inscrutable" and "inexplicable," words that denote imprecision and indecipherability, but which also possess a certain quality of uncertainty in themselves, as words. He struggles to name things, and is often reduced to wondering if there even is a meaning to Jim's story and his fascination with it. Sometimes he concludes that the meaning is an "enigma"; sometimes he decides there is no meaning to be found at all. Words are constantly being contested in this novel; at least three major episodes center around the misinterpretation of a single spoken word.” (Source: Sparknotes)
I mean, “inscrutable” and “inexplicable”? Why not just call it “ineffable”? I also love how Crowley seems to wonder about the meaning of things (especially the distinction between “good” and “bad”), as one of the first things we here him say in S2 is something like: “Do you ever ask yourself what’s the point. I mean angels, demons, heaven, hell … it all seems a bit … point … less.” And obviously, the whole show is full of misinterpretations of words (e.g., “what does your exactly mean, exactly? I feel like my exactly and your exactly are different exactlies”), or, as we are all painfully aware, a whole way of communicating with one another (“aim for my mouth, but shoot past my ear”).
Now for some similarities concerning informal (aka content) aspects:
moral balance and “naïve heroism”:
“Even more tortured is the analysis of idealism and heroism that lies at the center of Lord Jim. Jim is a young man who enters the world motivated primarily by fantasies of daring and noble deeds lifted from cheap novels. His ideals break down, however, in the face of real danger; they are, in fact, untenable when applied to any form of reality.” (Source: Sparnotes)
That sounds like both Crowley and Aziraphale in a way. They both set out as naïve idealists, and both of them learn (Crowley earlier and faster that Aziraphale) that their (heavenly) ideals do not hold in the complex reality of life. A lot of what we see in S2 is Aziraphale coming to terms with accepting that doing the “right thing” on earth often involves breaking his heavenly rules and allowing for “shades of grey.”
Tumblr media
struggling to comprehend own identity and moral consequences of own actions:
Both the narrator, Marlow, and the protagonist of his tale, Jim, are trying to figure out their identity. Marlow seems to tell the story mainly to kind of make sense of identity itself but also of him personally, while Jim tries to make amends for his morally wrong behaviour and tries to manifest his identity (as a hero) through action.
In GO2, we have a lot of identity struggles and questions of “who am I?”: Jim the amnesiac angel is the most blatantly obvious case, but we also have Aziraphale negotiating his identity constantly, e.g., in the Job episode when he asks “Then what am I?” after having lied to heaven for the first time . And I mean Crowley is just on another level of liminal identity entirely, isn’t he?
Tumblr media
As a bonus (and I am probably going overboard here, but well), this is the description of Jim’s death:
“Then with his hand over his lips he fell forward, dead.”
The imagery reminds me of something…ahhh yes:

Upon rewatching the umbrella academy I realised Luther didnt actually bring the moon up that much in season 1? and in hindsight when he did it was kinda understandable. dude was literally on the moon for 4 years. THE MOON. Sloane was right that is cool.
when we talk about Fives isolation in the apocalypse we’re sympathetic but because Luther was a primary source of conflict in s1 his experience of zero human interactions for 4 years is treated as a mild inconvenience he should just get over
like 1. he was on the moon for 4 years and had been told he was doing important work. 2. the cause of the original apocalypse actually WAS moon related in the end. And 3. Turns out Reginald literally had a secret base on the moon so wtf
Tumblr media
that montage of him slowly going insane on the moon over 4 years really puts things perspective. S1 Luther could have been much much more mentally unstable than he was

Wanna ramble about a moment/character in ninjago you think people need to talk about more?
I don't know who you are anon, but I'm glad you asked!
I am desperate for people to character-analyze Wu. I'm desperate for a lot of character analysis including Nya but since I got a lot of my Nya feelings out with some lovely folks the other night (edit: the other night was a month ago dw about it. this took a minute) I'm going with Wu this time
Master Wu to me is such an interesting case of a character who it is so easy to ignore the bits of the show that hint at his wider issues and traumas. He is a man defined heavily by his family and by his past. A lot of criticism he gets, I think, is due in part to that.
I've mentioned before that I've been rewatching S1 with a friend of mine and intermittently pausing to infodump on them about interesting character things I notice from that season. A lot of that has been Wu-focused because despite having seen RotS dozens of times throughout my life (watching it on CN, watching it on Netflix when only it and Legacy were around, rewatching it with friends) I have only just started noticing the seeds of character written in.
I might also just be reading too much into things, but hear me out
In S1 (and by extension, the pilots), Wu is characterized as your typical old wise teacher. In the first few minutes of EP1: Rise of the Snakes, he is chewing out the Ninja for playing video games instead of training. The line he uses? "Never put off until tomorrow what can be done today."
It's a line that gets repeated throughout the series. In fact, it gets repeated that very episode when the ninja go (pun not intended) to fight the Hypnobrai and a literal pre-teen. At first, it seems to just be a piece of wisdom. Some old proverb Wu's picked up over the years, possibly one he even coined himself. However, in EP7: Tick Tock, Wu tells the story of who, possibly, first told him this.
Tumblr media
(Source: Tick Tock/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom, highlight added.)
It was Garmadon. Now, I'm not gonna dwell too long on Garmadon, if you spend five minutes talking to me you'll learn he was the first character whose story I obsessed over and I want this essay to be about Wu, but I think he plays a role in Wu's overall story, as does Wu's family as a whole.
Prior to this, Wu and Garmadon's relationship has been more of a sibling rivalry taken to a good vs. evil extreme. We didn't know why Garmadon was evil and we didn't know about Wu and his relationship as kids. However, this scene establishes the backstory. They were, as Wu puts it, "the best of friends." That is, until Garmadon gets bit by the Devourer going to get the katana Wu lost.
Now, I know the Devourer bite was destined to happen because of the Overlord or some shit, but Wu doesn't. As far as he's concerned, Garmadon getting bit was a direct consequence of both his mistake and his cowardice. He lost the katana. He was too scared to get it. Garmadon went over instead. Garmadon got bit.
The scene goes on to show the FSM tending to Garmadon in the aftermath. Wu is watching from behind the door, likely told to stay back, but concerned. And in his POV, we get this intense moment, where Garmadon turns, looks directly at him (his eyes turning bright red for the first time), and says "It's all Wu's fault!"
(This clip should begin at the start of Wu eavesdropping. If it doesn't, skip to 0:58. I highly recommend also paying attention to Wu's body language during this scene.)
The camerawork does a great job of showing how this probably felt for Wu. It zooms in, Garmadon's voice echoes, and the background blurs. We see in the flashback that this is a moment Wu has etched into his memory. Not to mention, he was likely a very young child when this happened. LEGO characters' ages are weird, but Wu in this scene has the Big Eyes, which always seem to be used for characters under 12. We don't know exactly how much older Garmadon is to my knowledge, but he doesn't have the Big Eyes, so he's probably closer to 12 and a few years older than Wu for sure.
Imagine that. Being in elementary school and your older siblings gets hurt. They're acting strange. They're lashing out at your father. Then, they blame it all on you. They're hurt because of you. Wouldn't you internalize that?
I could go on about Wu's relationship with Garmadon, but again, I think I've spent enough time on it and I don't want to only focus on that. It's an important part, but there are others.
Let's talk about Wu's relationship with his dad.
Now, I have not yet read the Spinjitzu Brothers series. I cannot speak to any development of Wu and the FSM's relationship in there. I have, however, read The Book of Spinjitzu and blogged some of my thoughts on it here, including some of what it says about Wu.
For those who haven't read it, first, there is a Google Drive folder floating around with all of the canon spinoff books/graphic novels in it. Here's the link if you wanna read them!
The FSM is an... intriguing figure. I mean, in the series he's basically god? He made the entire world. That's already a very high bar to live up to. Then, in Book of Spinjitzu, there's a few specific parts that, when I read them, signaled that Wu internalized a specific message when he was young.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, Page 3).
Wu does not want to disappoint his father. It is up to him (and Garmadon until he turns evil) to "uphold the legacy of Spinjitzu" and, by extension, his family. He says he was "very young" when this was explained to him. Considering he seems to already be training at an elementary age, "very young" means VERY young.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, Page 16).
Here, we again see Wu being very aware that he has some large burden to carry. Something else interesting here is that the thought of the Green Ninja Prophecy is already weighing on him too. His considering if he might be the Green Ninja is of extra interest because of how the Green Ninja Prophecy and the--I wouldn't call it obsession, possibly fixation?--with who it is factors into his later actions, but we'll get to that later.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, Page 19).
This one in particular gets me because it comes after Wu mentions Garmadon becoming more evil. It is a statement of power. Wu knows that the legacy of Spinjitzu now rests in his hands alone. He cannot let himself fall the way Garmadon did. He cannot disappoint his father. Whether or not the FSM intended it, Wu always knew the fate of the world rested, at least in part, upon his shoulder. He knew this from the time he was a young boy and it remains in his mind to this day.
Now, these quotes are indirect, but they all point to one clear idea: As a child, Wu internalized the idea that he alone is responsible for keeping Ninjago safe. He will play a pivotal role in its history.
There's not evidence in this book that the FSM's was a bad father, per se. However, just because one doesn't set out to harm their children, doesn't mean they won't. I often say Wu has an "Atlas complex," which I have no idea if it is an actual concept but use it to refer to this idea. Wu feels as though he is responsible for holding up the world, much like Atlas. He must keep the balance, he must solve the Green Ninja prophecy, he must make his father proud.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, page 61).
I'm going to get further into what this means for Wu as a teacher to the current Ninja Team, but for now let's look at Wu's first foray into teaching.
Morro. Wu's Biggest Mistake.
That might seem like an overstatement, but it's not.
Tumblr media
(Source: Ghost Story/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom)
Okay he says regret, not mistake, but I was paraphrasing.
Let's turn back to his quote about his destiny. Wu writes, "Is my life's mission to be the Green Ninja? Or maybe it will be to find the Green Ninja and protect him (or her)??"
From a very young age, Wu was not only aware of the Green Ninja but prophecy but also thinking about his place in it. We see this again when he takes Morro in and trains him.
Tumblr media
(Source: Ghost Story/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom, highlight added)
A big thing Wu is criticized for here is making Morro believe he is meant to be more. That he is the Chosen One. And Morro, being a young homeless orphan just now given some semblance of power and protection, latches onto that. And I can see it, but when you take into account the above that he was trained from (likely) a younger age than Morro and given a similar level of responsibility, it becomes more understandable. Wu is just doing what he was taught. He doesn't believe that he is harming Morro until it is too late.

This is the entire story, but I'm specifically going to be discussing 1:36 onwards here. I also wanted to add that rewatching this scene made me lay down on the floor! What the fuck! But I digress.
There's a lot going on in this scene. For one, Wu washing his hands of Morro in some ways, but not others. He turns his back on Morro when he tells him that destiny has decided, but looks at him again when Morro storms out. He goes to save Morro from the Grundal, but decides that he cannot "teach those who would not listen." Most importantly, when Morro leaves to go find the Tomb of the FSM, Wu leaves the door open. He waits for Morro to return, but never goes after him. And Morro never comes back.
Wu gives Morro's fate a dismissive response at the end of his ghost story ("I am saddened he was banished to the Cursed Realm") but it's clear he still cares deeply about him in the finale of the season.
youtube
Wu's VA in this is phenomenal btw. That "Please Morro!" and "MORRO!" make my heart ache.
Morro believed Wu stopped caring, but he didn't. Even after all he's done, even after trying to destroy all of Ninjago--destroying what Wu had spent his life trying to protect--Wu tries to save him. He begs for Morro to come with him. Morro refuses, Wu watches him perish.
Someone else Wu is close to is gone. Wu again considers himself responsible. Everything is his fault.
And finally, we reach Wu today. A cautious, secretive man. He loves his students, this much is clear. Even as early as the pilots, he drops his wise teacher persona to joke around with them.
youtube
As with Morro, he trains them like his father did him. He even uses the same methods his father used when he trains them.
Tumblr media
(Source: The Book of Spinjitzu, page 32)
youtube
While he is hard on the Ninja, wanting them to succeed and training them to help defend the Realm, he lets his guard down more than it seems he did with Morro. He also learned a valuable message from his experience with Morro when he hides the Green Ninja Prophecy from the Ninja, getting angry when they start to push themselves in the same way Morro did upon learning about it. It's clear he doesn't want a repeat.
Now, I can't speak for later seasons (I will eventually) but this fear of repeats, his students going down a dark path because they're tempted by power or greatness, losing someone else, likely drives Wu not telling them other important information. That is just a passing thought though.
Final notes:
I'm currently in the process of rewatching S7: Hands of Time. I actually got this ask right after finishing EP68: Scavengers, which opens with Wu having a nightmare. In it, he and Misako are walking outside of Yang's temple. While walking, Misako delivers this line in response to Wu reminiscing about the time they've spent together:
Tumblr media
(Source: Scavengers/Transcript | Ninjago Wiki | Fandom)
This line, to me, is Wu's subconscious trying to tell him something he needs to hear. It's hinting at what might be his greatest flaw. Wu is haunted by his past, by his mistakes. He finds it difficult to tell others because of both his guilt and his desire to not put that worry upon them. In this very season, he makes the mistake of trying to face his past on his own, and he nearly dies for it.
In the same episode, you see Wu trying to make sure Lloyd doesn't make the same mistakes.
Tumblr media
(Source: Prev)
Wu stresses the important of the team. It's as if he sees Lloyd blaming himself for what happened to Wu, sees him doing the same thing Wu has, and is trying to prevent him from doing the same thing. This is further emphasized when, after Wu falls asleep (well, fakes falling asleep), Lloyd says "Wu's mistake was going in alone. So was mine."
Master Wu is, like many characters in this show, someone who is more complex than meets the eye. He is not just a wise, old teacher. He is a man who, throughout his life, has made mistakes and carries the weight of each of them on his shoulders. He is a man who tasks himself with making up for those every day. He is a man who wants better for his students, his family.
Until the day he dies, he will guide and protect his students. And possibly? Even after death too.
#ninjago#lego ninjago#master wu#long post#anon tag#this made my day i looooooooooooooove character analysis#i know a lot of what i post about it may not encompass the full series but i just think that makes it more fun tbh#i'm working with what i have and later i may come back to this and add even more things#i'm also very passionate about wu analysis as a former wu hater because i think the fact that his character stuff is so buried#leads to a lot of the hate#Why didn't he tell the ninja things? well he told morro things and look how that turned out#he grew up believing the weight of the world was on his shoulders#in one way or another#i won't lie and say the man does not make mistakes#but like i mention in s7 when he does he is fucking haunted by them#he is not breaking the generational trauma but he is damn well making an attempt for someone who probably doesn't realize he has it#p.s i tried to add image desc to each ss to make it more accessible but if i messed it up please let me know!#i spent way too much time on this#somebody do a word count i'm curious but too tired to copy this all into docs#falls over#part 2 of this is just the dark island trilogy but i think i'm gonna wait to do that#this took so long and the words are now refusing to words#thank you for reading#i need to take a nap after writing this I feel physically spent#please enjoy another rook branded ramble disguised as a comprehensive essay#other essayists bring you professionalism and academic vibes#i scream into the void and put way too many links o7#happy birthday ninjago!!!! i finished this in honor of you hopefully it is worthy

On the video you can watch director/executive producer Alan Taylor and titular vampire Jacob Anderson talking about the tap dancing scene, and a clip of Jacob and Steven G. Norfleet rehearsing. Transcript and sources are under the cut.
Rewind the tape —Episode 1 highlights
One of our favorite bits of trivia is...
No doubles were used in Louis and Paul's tap dancing scene! Steven G. Norfleet is a professional dancer, and Jacob Anderson learned to tap dance in less than a month, over Zoom, while he had COVID.
What's a favorite fun fact of yours? Is there a line that was adapted straight from the page, or smartly repurposed? Did one of the people involved in the show say something interesting about the episode? Was there any review of the pilot that had you nodding and cheering as you read? Does any of the paintings that show up on the episode have an interesting meaning?
Reblog with your highlights, or make a new post with the tag #vampterview to join the conversation!
And, if you're just getting caught up, learn all about our group rewatch here ►
Transcripts and sources
Katie o'Shaughnessy Chatting with Alan Taylor! (Director/ Executive producer S1 IWTV!):
K.O. And with the dancing as well, I'd wondered, between Louis and Paul, the tap dancing scene, was that, how much of that was them and how much was doubles?  A.T. Like, entirely them. We had we had doubles come in, in case we wanted to do closeups of their feet and stuff, and we had the doubles standing by and almost never used them, because… Paul, it turned out, we'd cast because he was a wonderful actor with a heartbreaking quality, but it turned out he was a professional dancer too. We didn’t know that when we hired him. So Paul had it down and Paul was helping Jacob, who would spend his weekend half dancing with the coach. And so when the time came to shoot it, we didn’t need the doubles, and the energy between these two guys as brothers was so good that we didn’t want to, you know, break it with cutaways to professional dancing. So, yeah, wild. K.O. That’s amazing, I would have assumed it was doubles.
Xfinity Hangouts: Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid:
Interviewer: Jacob, I was not prepared to see you tap dance so beautifully in that first episode. Is that a skill you already possessed or something you had to learn?  J.A. No, it’s something that we had to learn. We had, how many weeks did we have?  S.R. Like a month to prep. But, but… J.A. Yeah. But I got COVID, and uh, so I had to isolate. I didn’t have any symptoms, thankfully but… so I had to then do all of my lessons remotely in my house in New Orleans. S.R. And they sent you a board, right? J.A. Yeah, I had like, some plywood on the floor and my tap shoes, and yeah, we had like three weeks after that to just keep practicing but… And with respect to the doubles, they had two tap dancing doubles that they sent home before we shot the scene.  S.R. Didn’t even use them. J.A. So all of the tapping you see in the show is me and Steven, and we learned most of it over Zoom.  Interviewer: Amazing.  J.A. So hard. Because tap is all about sound. The lag is awful.

“Scott’s awareness of the Stiles and Derek thing is interesting to dissect” hi yes please do!
I find him a bit hard to read when it comes to this tbh. Scott seems aware that Something is going on throughout season 3. He always seems shocked to realize that they get along better, even though Scott is usually faster at trusting people than Stiles. (I wouldn’t be surprised if Derek/Scott’s issues early on are the source of this bewilderment.)
I genuinely can’t tell if/when Scott might have realized that their bond was more than platonic. Like he has so much “right in front of my salad?” energy that he must have noticed Stiles’s attraction at the very least, right? Was it Derek’s leaving in the s4 finale that made Scott realize that Stiles’s feelings were actually romantic? He seems very aware in s5 that Derek is a Sore Spot for Stiles.
Jeffrey-boy seems to have taken the whole “show, don’t tell” thing a little too literally here.
the thing about scott is he's really, really good at denial. especially self-denial. combining his world class levels of denial he also has multiple hang up about derek that he has a hard time letting go of and he has a specific way he perceives stiles (which is part of the mess in s5).
like he sees but he's also stuffing his fingers in his ears about it because derek and stiles being derek-n-stiles doesn't line up with what he expects from either of them.
scott also has the dubious privilege of being there from the beginning. it was just the three of them at the start of this whole fiasco.
there's hints but scott doesn't really get to see the big stiles and derek development in season 1so while he seems to kind of pick up on stiles possibly being attracted to derek because i mean look at this.
Tumblr media
he's mostly seeing stiles being annoyed and angry but he isn't necessarily reading the deeper reasons for it because he's not privy to it.
than season 3 happens.
things shift in s3 when he realizes that he and stiles are not at all on the same page about derek. stiles has been spending time with derek outside of his knowledge for months and they're friendly.
Top 10 Anime Betrayals in Tattoo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and than his reaction to derek and stiles messing around in the next episode. peter's entirely unsurprised and amused by this which just hints at stiles getting derek to be playful isn't new to him but for scott this is Huge. This is world altering for scott.
Tumblr media
stiles becoming friendly with derek is one of the reasons scott's perception and trust of derek begins to shift into moving past his anger and resentment that was present in s1 and 2.
i know people say scott doesn't trust stiles and that's a whole thing to unpack and i'd have to rewatch 5a to parse it entirely but scott does trust stiles. while stiles is often right he also as often doesn't have the proof to back up his intuition in the moment.
scott is also way more scared that stiles isn't himself after the nogitune. he can see stiles spiraling and after derek leaves stiles becomes even more paranoid and irritable. almost as if stiles lost an anchor. which scott just went through himself with allison's death.
at the end of s4 this look is layered
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he's terrified of losing stiles the same way stiles is afraid of losing him. it creates a weird feedback loop where that very thing happens because of their fears are exploited by theo. stiles and scott are so scared to lose each other and depend on seeing each other a particular way because of the roles they've assigned themselves they don't communicate properly.
stiles and scott are incredibly dysfunctional kids from different kinds of broken homes. it's important to remember that when dissecting their friendship.
the benefit of a doubt scene in season 5 says scott fucking noticed because his starting overture at trying to convince stiles about giving theo the benefit of a doubt is derek.
(theo is a hybrid peter-derek which is funny but he's also a dark mirror of stiles in a lot of ways. it's partly why scott is drawn to him.)
it's a calculated move on scott's part to bring up derek to appeal to stiles's emotions over his logic but he also is aware that he needs to tread fucking lightly here. the subject of derek is a double edged sword.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also scott witnessed derek's whole ass everything in 3B even if he was distracted. he knew derek would help look for stiles and protect him without a question.
i think scott figured out there was something going on in 3A and by 5A he knew it was something stiles was incredibly fucked up over but he wasn't the one that could fix it.

Joining the Rewind the Tape event
This will be my first time rewatching IWTV S1 since it's first broadcast (excluding the indirect watch I get from watching YouTube reactions). I'm bad at creating content, but I have been meaning to rewatch it the same way I watch movies; with my note app ready for me to write down things I notice. And like when watching movies, I don't really care about source material nor the existing theories; I just try to deduce from what I see. So, I feel this is a good way to refresh my mind before going into S2 after all the fanons and theories going around. I use my note to decide how I score a film, so I write down technical stuff as well.
If anyone wants to discuss, feel free to reply ✌️
Here is my note for S01E1:
• What a witty opening. Tricking audience that it's something it's not (an ad, which is closer to our reality). Setting the tone of what's to come.
• "Your sources are your Sherpas (a guide?). Your editor is your priest. Honesty is not a tactic."
• "Can he make his fantasy a reality?" Touche!
• 9/4/73. 4 September 1973
• Daniel looks so pissed listening to the old tape lol.
• That transition of Louis' face over the city. That's so Great Gatsby of him. And the long close shot makes Louis so still and inhuman, what a contrast with the ones from the church scene.
• "Have I hit the nerve?" Drink every time the script being so funny!
• Louis: "Yet you come anyway". Daniel: "That's my voice but I don't remember it"
• "Truth and reconciliation" Reconciliation: the process of making two opposite beliefs, ideas, or situations agree.
• June 14, 2022.
• "The favored son. And capital to oversee as consequence"
• "You're a pimp". "The product is desire" The difference in their language in this dialogue is so interesting.
• Bricks hitting Fenwick after he tried to rape her. That's our girl 😌✊
• The score came up on the right time.
• Lestat witnessing and hearing the contradiction in Louis over loving his brother versus going hard on him in order to survive and falling in love immediately 😌✊✊✊✊
• "Let's not fuss on the particulars" Particulars in question are women being exploited and sometimes raped, but okay.
• Florence and Grace don't like to hear the hard facts, I see.
• "A lie I told myself about myself"
• No that white man Louis staring at is so ugly. Louis, please!
• Oh, Les definitely hears Tom inviting Louis for a game on Friday.
• "And there's a food" *gestures to Lily*. God, i love this script.
• Oh, Lestat did "mezmerized" Louis here (either accidentally or not idk), like he did with Paul later at the dinner. Hence, Louis says "not with my family".
• "Emasculation AND admiration in equal measure. I wanted to murder the man, and I wanted TO BE the man." Basically a summary of what attracts Louis to Lestat.
• Lestat killing the white man with lamp scene is interesting if you consider what we watch as Louis' POV because logically Louis didn't see it as it happened in 1910. But the existence of this scene signals that 2022 Louis (or Louis after the fact) now knows that Lestat did prowling the city during the night killing people. Iirc there will be more scenes like this.
• Help Sam and Jacob's chemistry right when their eyes meet each other 😭😭😭😭♥️
• Not @ Lestat dumbing himself down in front of the white men and Louis smiled adorably over it even though he probably knew that's just an act. We lost him so fast
• The practical effects are so cool.
• Lestat was like don't you know your value etc etc, yet he still did not back up Louis to Fenwick. The red flag is red flagging.
• "He's not revealed his vampire nature yet." But Louis definitely knows something is up with him (see: two instances of "mezmerize" and the time stop)
• That shot of Leslou in the mirror at the tailor is so cute 🥺
• "Mother loves European" Louis is so her son 😂
• "He ain't takin' it you getting married" Paul was indeed getting worse 😭
• Lestat being so taken aback with how blunt Paul is then taken aback over Louis' lying to his family he's not enjoying opera is so funny.
• Sam's eyebrows definitely have a life of their own lol
• Louis gives Lestat's "violent and weird peculiarity" a pass unless it's toward his loved ones. Reminds me of that Jacob's interview on the domestic abuse in the show.
• The talk Leslou have while walking back to Lestat's house is really the summary of Louis' different "hats". "They sit in judgement. Paul is the only one to say it to my face"
• Louis' action vs words when Lestat asked him for a "nightcap" is 🤌
• I thought Lestat's hand is in Lily's skirt when she seemingly orgasm, but it isn't. His hand also doesn't explore too much on her at Fairplay Saloon either compared to what Louis' narration implies. Is it the show being careful how they touch women or is it some kind of "censor"? I need to pay attention to it later.
• The choreo between Leslou to make it look like they're fighting for control/dominance. This is A grade yaoi 🤌🤌🤌🤌
• Louis checking on Daniel whether he has ~ embraced his sexuality~ then describing his homosexual intimate moment with drugs to a former addict is a very deliberate choice. Daniel isn't the only one digging in this interview.
• Drinking blood from another in an intimate setting feels extremely intimate
• Gosh Paul doesn't even want Levi to touch him
• The tap dance scene 😭 Paul 😭
• Paul spiralling down pre-wedding, seemingly angry during the wedding, eating a lot, remembering their best time, checking on Louis and Grace, saying I love you. Yeah, he definitely did it himself 🥲
• I know the night sky is a green screen, but the lights hit Louis' face so beautifully. I don't know how they did it
• Florence 😡😡😡😡
• "Miss Lily proved herself a poor subtitute" Lestat 😡😡😡😡😡
• Lestat is completely out of touch with humanity, he only cares about himself.
• Finnick must think it's very weird that he has to keep Lestat away from Louis that he gets his arm broken but the next time they meet, Leslou are close again 😅
• Daniel Hart slaying with the score 🤌🤌🤌🤌
• Louis connects the dots when he hears Lily got the "fever" 😞
• Jacob's acting at the confession. The score filling the space over his voice. The mixing tuned up perfectly when Lestat snatching the priest. 🤌
• Lestat knocked down two lamps, one is so far away from the confession, to give proper lighting is so funny lol. (I know it's shooting necessity but still 😂)
• Sam definitely has a subwoofer in his throat wtf (I'm listening with earphones)
• You can see Sam hasn't used to talk with his fangs on here.
• The camera trick after Lestat punched the priest is so clever.
• I wonder what Lestat is hearing during his proposal scene, because he definitely gets Louis the moment he says he loves him. The change in Louis' face 🥲
• Sam's eye acting during the part laid over with Louis' narration. That part will always be my Roman Empire
• "For the first time in my life, I was seen". Not "felt seen". He's still sure that that's a fact.
• Louis already gives little nods the moment Lestat finished "for eternity" 🥲🥲🥲🥲
• Jacob's whole monologue during the turn 🤌🤌🤌
• "He sat there, radiant" *while Lestat's is laying down, catching his breath* Louis' narration is more "flowery" than the recollection?
Summary: I'm extremely impressed with how much we know about Louis' personality (especially the contradiction in himsef) just from the script of this episode. Alan Taylor trusts Jacob and Sam's ability a lot to do a lot of close-ups and just let their faces tell the story. Louis' costumes, scores, and audio mixing are perfection.

Hi fellow Star Wars : Rebels fans and Sabine x Ezra shippers, I hope you can indulge me for just a little while :)
I have a few questions that I haven’t found the answerd to after a rewatch ( my first since the show ended ) of Star Wars : Rebels, as well as my second watch-through of Star Wars : Ahsoka ( and of course, thoroughly scouring Wookiepedia ) :
1.1) On “‘Bine” = Did Ezra, or anybody for that matter, call Sabine, “‘Bine”, in canon?
1.2) On “Ez” = Similarly, did Sabine, or anybody else, call Ezra, “Ez”?
2) On “Blue Bean” = I know that it’s from ‘Bine, but why Blue?
3) Are the Mandalorian nouns, adjectives, sentences, etc., that I’ve seen in many, MANY fanfics, like “cyarika”, and the marriage vows, or even “dikut”, canon? Or is it made up by the fandom - or even a mixture of both ( i.e., the Mandalorian language / grammar / words do exist in canon, but they’ve been used by the fandom to suit their fanfic needs ( I’m particularly intrigued if the marriage vows ( I can’t remember the while thing, but it’s something ending with “we will raise warriors” ) do exist in canon ( they’re beautiful, either way )))
4) I know that the Mandalorian people inhabited multiple words, judging from the Rebels series ( Fenn Rau’s Protector’s planet, the Wren’s Krownest, and the main planet of Mandalore itself ). Is there a canon source for what exactly happened to Krownest and the entire Wren clan, specifically Sabine’s family ( Ursa, Alrich, and Tristan )? We know from the Ahsoka series ( from Huyang in particular ) that they’re dead - BUT HOW? Does that mean Krownest was ALSO glassed? Or was it only Mandalore that was glassed, and most of clan Wren ( particularly the ruling family / Sabine’s immediate family ) just happened to be there ( most likely fighting their war of liberation with Bo Katan leading them ( although, full disclosure, I’ve only watched S1 and S2 of The Mandalorian; I haven’t had time yet to watch S3 )) - and if this is the case, what of Krownest ( does the Wren clan stronghold still exist? )?
Thank you in advance to any of our esteemed loremasters out there who will take the time to answer :)
[ EDIT : ONE ADDITIONAL QUESTION PLEASE!!! :)
5) Did the Spectres know that the Sith Lord they encountered on Lothal ( and later on Malachor ) was actually Darth Vader - apprentice and second-in-command to the Emperor himself?
Thank you again ^_^ ]

He Has TWO!?
Tumblr media
So I’m sure at this point everyone is aware of the Medic!Leo headcanon in the Rise fandom. And I tell ya, I am HERE FOR IT!
So happy my boy is getting as much love as he is in the show. But that aside, I noticed something.
So I was rewatching ROTTMNT, and I’m not sure if this has been noticed or analyzed but I figured, eh what the heck. It’s not gonna hurt anyone. (I hope).
And as I was watched “Many Unhappy Returns” (S2, ep1) I noticed something particularly interesting.
Tumblr media
Leo’s got 2 fanny packs/pouches.
Don’t believe me? Or, “I don’t see it” or “just an animation error, his pouch switches sides.”
Well, look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And look:
Tumblr media
That looks like a second separate fanny pack to me
As we all probably know, the medic!Leo headcanon was born because out of all the turtles he’s the only one to have a pouch connected to his belt. And I unfortunately can’t find the source anymore. But in an interview one of the writers/animators (someone who worked on the show) was asked what Leo carries in his pouch. And they responded: “I don’t know, probably a med kit.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I think that fuels the headcanon even more. And personally, this is just me, but I feel like Leo being the medic can work. I mean Leo has shown that he can be smart when he wants to. And before he became the leader he’s always declared he’s the face man.
I think this falls under his inferiority complex, because in the episode “Portal Jacked” (S1, ep17a) he blatantly says to Senior Hueso: “I’m nothing without them!”
Also, and I know this is a stretch, but I think (considering the headcanon) that if Leo feels this about himself. He probably also thinks that he’s not able to contribute to the team like the others can besides being the “faceman” and say his “one-liners.” So by him also being the team medic, he has something he can at least help with (at least in his mindset).
______________________________________________________________
Also, P.S. in the 2012 series Leo’s has done physical bandaging like here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention his “healing hands”
Tumblr media
Oh. And in the mobile game TMNT Legends. (If anyone plays) he’s a healer.
https://tmnt-legends.fandom.com/wiki/Leonardo#:~:text=Conclusion%2C%20Leonardo%20is%20infact%20a,attack%20and%20taunt%20enemies%20to
so yeah...
I’m all aboard the medic!Leo train!
I find it funny that despite all of this Don is the team medic and not Leo in the 2012 fandom haha

RE: https://www.tumblr.com/chaifootsteps/732776463261138944/i-really-dislike-the-fact-that-fans-have-to-do?source=share&ref=_tumblr
Def one of my biggest issues with HB from the beginning. Personally, I'm not someone who likes to be assigned "homework" for media (one of the reasons I dropped Star Wars was the amount of research I was told I had to do to enjoy any content outside of the OG trilogy). It's one thing to have extended lore that adds background detail and feeds the more hardcore fans, but none of that information should ever been REQUIRED READINGS for your series.
Mind you, I was on Twitter during S1, seeing the Viv explanation tweets, the instagrams, and all the other random factoids that managed to leak from the patreon. It STILL bugged me because I knew that if I wasn't catching all this crap on a totally separate website, I'd be pretty lost despite paying pretty close attention and rewatching the episodes multiple times.
Heck, back when I was a fan, I sought out reactors who were outside of the fanbase and the amount of times they were confused on basic things was genuinely embarrassing. Not embarrassing for them btw, but for Viv's writing. Just as an example: so many of them did not catch that Verosika was meant to be a Succubus since it's only really mentioned in a joke line "succubitches" and there isn't that much visual distinction between Imps and Succubi. So you just had a lot of people who were left wondering why she had magic powers when Blitzo and the Imps didn't. Oh, and god forbid you had no idea what the heck a Succubus even IS because HB just expects you to already know the basics of Xtian Demonology in order to put the pieces together.
So much of the series hinges on the idea of you as the viewer being super keyed into her social media and patreon. Then the hardcore fans blame YOU for misunderstanding or not knowing what's happening as if you failed some sort of fandom pop quiz by not studying hard enough. Gatekeeping at its finest and they wonder why there aren't a lot of new fans, especially since those old tweet threads are long since buried.
And more often than not, even if you've done all your homework meticulously every step of the way, it's still impossible to keep up with what the hell Vivzie's trying to convey. Her stans don't know either, but they'll pretend they know if it's the last thing they do.
