A downpour flooded the city on November 25, 1950, leading to problems like stalled cars. This is looking east on Cortland Street from the corner of West and Cortland Streets.

Some massive storms tore through north Texas very early this morning.
Wind blowing at 80+ mph in many areas. Trees ripped apart. Heavy rain with flash flooding. Nearly 650,000 homes without power (mine included). Major damage all over the place.
This is one of the two driveways out of my apartment complex blocked by what used to be a tree. The other one is similar, but had just enough space to squeeze past if you pop the curb a tiny bit.

This other picture is the roof of my mother's house. Except the house in the picture that it is currently on is her next door neighbor.

There are also many other homes and businesses that are in much worse shape than this.
Needless to say, insurance agents and construction crews are going to be extremely busy.

Okay, so, haha
Turns out
The early-gen Samsung phones had something of a battery flaw
In that they would easily overheat and, um.
Catch fire.
Or less extreme but no less annoying, constantly cycle on and off again.
Which happened to me with my refurbished Galaxy S7 camera early this week.
Fortunately, I fixed it. Unfortunately, I had to perform a factory reset to do it, so all my crow photos and videos got eaten :(
As consolation, please take a look at this tree which was damaged in a storm we had a couple weeks back:

Not sure if you can properly see from this angle, but it split pretty badly. I might have to go back and take another one from a better angle next time.
More to come, so stay tuned if you're into that sort of thing :)

On Tuesday, April 2nd, we had a series of severe thunderstorms in our city that uprooted trees and dropped them on houses and cars. Our home was not damaged, but power was knocked out all over town for about 12,000 people. Also, EIGHT (as of Thursday) moderate tornadoes touched down statewide, including in the neighboring county where I went to college. Kentucky weather, what the actual fuck???

Sunflower down!
We had a severe storm this afternoon. Night dark, sideways rain, 80mph winds, all that jazz. Honestly I'm impressed it only took out the one sunflower!

It also did a fantastic job of cleaning the flagstones!

This is the last of the live oaks that was killed in the hurricane in 22. The storm destroyed many of our oaks, I had to trim them back to nothing but most are coming back and in a few years should be nice again.

Minor update from this morning's post:
Still no power at home. Absolutely no idea when they might get it fixed in my neighborhood.
Tumblr media
It's now down to only half a million homes without power (I am not exaggerating that number, you can look it up to confirm if you want).
At least the downed trees in my area have been mostly cleared up and it's not super hot today.
I thought about going to stay at a hotel tonight, but I'm sure those in areas with power probably don't have any rooms left.
The worst part for me right now is the boredom and overwhelming silence in my apartment. There are plenty of people that have it much, much worse than I do today.
My car has a full tank of gas, so I can easily go out there for a little while to charge some devices if I need to.
Now, to just sit around for the next 4 hours until I go to bed.

Two Years Since The Storm (Tuesday 4PM)
Sharing this is literally terrifying, and at the same time it feels like it's something I have to do. It's a rough vocal through GarageBand with some reverb tacked on, and it's raw, and it hurts. But singing it... helps. It helps me, at least.
(if you do listen please be kind about any vocal wobbles and maybe pretend that you didn't hear them, it can be our little secret)

It's official: President Biden has declared Florida a DeSaster Area.
Idalia was the second major hurricane to strike the home state of climate-denying Ron DeSantis in less than a year. Screaming "woke!" at hurricanes doesn't keep them out of the state.
As I write this on Tuesday morning there's a disturbance in the mid-Atlantic which currently goes by the generic name Invest 95L. It will almost certainly develop into Tropical Storm Lee. Whether or not it affects Florida depends on the strength of two Highs much further north.
youtube
So DeSantis should keep his white boots handy and not make too many plans for Iowa and New Hampshire in the next few days.
EDIT: Tropical Depression Thirteen has just been given recognition by the NHC. As soon as it gets up to the minimum sustained winds of 39 MPH/63 kmh it will be named Tropical Storm Lee. It could be a major hurricane by early Saturday.
