2015 vs 2024 (rambles under the cut)

I wanted to redraw this to see my improvement and while I wanted to change the composition I tried to keep it as close to the original as possible so I could compare it :) making art is hard, but it's something I have always done. I am 33 this year (god that sounds so adult) and art is something I've always loved - I've had periods where I didn't do any (mostly due to depression) but it's very much a part of me and who I am. I was always that friend drawing or painting pictures and gifting them to people. my art was on the fridge and the walls. and fuck was some of it BAD. the left is from about 2015 when I first tabled at SupaNova. I was happy with this and I can see what I was trying to achieve but I couldn't draw that, I didn't have the skill (my art style was also much "cuter"). It's fun to see some of the same choices I still use now. but yeah, I didn't wake up one day and was able to draw the way I do now. I am still learning and practicing. I struggle a lot with things and I wish I was so much better than I am (nobody can critique your own work better than ur evil brain just fyi) but I wouldn't be where I am now if I hadn't drawn those crappy artworks. I am very hard on myself but being able to see this undeniable improvement is really comforting and rewarding. anyway, don't give up. whether it be art or writing or another new skill you want to learn. you need to practice and you have to suck before you can get better (super unfair, I know). it's not fun but being able to look back and see improvement is so damn satisfying. if I could tell 24 year old me I can draw men, that bitch wouldn't believe me haha
