REVIEW | "Isekai Quartet The Movie -Another World-" | B3 - Boston Bastard Brigade
Tumblr media
There’s a solid formula that’s found in Isekai Quartet. While its premise is simple — taking popular characters from isekai series and have them go to school together — the humor can be stellar thanks to its no-holds-barred jabs at the characters’ respective properties. Naturally, a movie adaptation of this series should result in big laughs and an entertaining narrative, right? Well…about that. I have a question for Isekai Quartet The Movie -Another World-: Why so serious?
Continuing where Season 2 left off, the casts of KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero, Saga of Tanya the Evil, and The Rising of the Shield Hero are still dealing with their school surroundings. Suddenly, Ainz Ooal Gown (Satoshi Hino) is pulled into a wormhole, with the rest of the school following behind. Soon Ainz and Kazuma (Jun Fukushima) find themselves with a mysterious girl, one who wears a very familiar military uniform. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast come face-to-face with a strange robot with a chunibyo personality.
Tumblr media
Like quite a few isekai series, the premise of Another World has all of the characters trying their best to find their way home. (Which home, specifically, is not revealed until the end.) Much of the movie attempts to put its muscle into the characters and how they interact with one another. In some cases, it works, especially when Kazuma and Ainz are together and trying to assist newcomer Vera (Nana Mizuki) with her plan.

1 mei 2023
Ponakan mendadak nempel, dia ikut rebahan sambil main tiktok. Krena aku tipe belajarmya pasti coray coret alias hrus nulis makanya aku ambil pulpen, stelah menulis beberapa hal penting. Aku duduk senderan lagi, dan ketika ngerasa ngantuk aku nyeduh kopi.
Nggak kerasa udah asar aja, aku hrus bergegas mengantar ponakan ke rumahnya. Melihat langit mendung, solat asarpun jadi nggak tenang.
Tris aku tanya mau jajan apa, emang aku niatnya mau jajanin dia sih.
"Cilor mau?"
Dia jawab nggak tau.
Well, hujan turun 30 meter dari tempat kebab. Jdi kami nunggu sambil neduh.
Alhamdulillah.
Abis itu aku telpon teteh katnya ponakan jabgan dianterin nanti aja dijemput. Yaudah gapapa abis beli kebab 3 porsi dan minumannya aku langsung pulang. Di rumah aku ajak ponakan buat bantu bungkusin kado buat anak2 didikku besok. Totalnya 11 kado. Buat hal ginian aku emang suka struggling karena gak bisa tapi dijalanin aja alhamdulillah kelar.
Abis magrib. Teteh datang bawa cilok, trus jwmput ponakan. abis isya aku nyetrika baju buat besok kerja tiba2 datang aa yang ngeluh kepalanya panas setelah makan petai dua papan. Edan emang.
Bentar lgi mau tdur, mau baca webtoon air kecantikan dlu.
Oiya tadi magrib ada orang riweh maksa mau jahit, aku bete sih kasian orang tua tapiii ya mama papa itu selalu mikir buay bantu orang. "Gmna kalau itu kamu?"
Sampe tdi jam 21.10 ppa belum tdur, padahal biasanya jam 8 udh tdur. Beliau punya janji bres jahitannta jam 9 dan mau diambil. Tapi gak dateng2. Aku suruh aja tdur, eh brusam banget ada yg ambil. Alhamdulillah.
Dah mau tdur.
Ayankku pasti ketduran. Hm.

Winter 2023 Faves
So, this was a season.
Nothing wrinkled my brain – No Bocci or Do It Yourself!! – but these were enjoyable company with my morning muffin. No ranking this time, but here’s my top four:
Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi
Tumblr media
(Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill) AKA A Boy and His Dog: The Isekai
An isekai’d salaryman whose superpower is an Amazon account – I kinda think this is what The Shield Hero should have been.
I’m a sucker for great animal sidekicks, and Veldora, I mean Fenrir the super-wolf is absolutely adorable, no matter how obnoxious. And who can forget rat boy, I mean baby slime? If you’re gonna Rimiru, then female child soldier/swiss army knife is an another adorable merchandising opportunity.
And extra points for the cooking tips, but all your wyvern stew and orc-burgers made my chicken nuggets and buttered noodles feel even more like peasant food.
They handled the repeating gags well, and all the characters from goddesses to butchers are well written. But Ash Ketchum (or whatever he’s called in this show) needs to grow a damn pair.
Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu 2nd Season
Tumblr media
(The Vampire Dies in No Time 2nd Season) AKA Stupid, Stupid Vampire
In a stronger season, this would have been a Returning Champion, but in Winter 2023, being such a solid player bumped it into the leaderboard.
Always amusing and queer and weird and I like everybody in it. I think it had already found its groove in season 1, but the S2 opening titles were WAY better. Like, I would sometimes actually watch them instead of skipping.
It always left me smiling, and I hope we get a season 3.
Tumblr media
(Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement) AKA Isekai Lesbian Capitalist
More like Little Orphan Anime, am I right? 😃 Or maybe The Legend of Tanya The Merchant.
I sometimes got too busy to keep up with all the shows, but this one kept me coming back week after week.
On the one hand, I can see where they painted over what'sername from Bookworm, but on the other, I don’t care.
I was amused by how the world would bend implausibly to conform to our Mary Sue’s ambitions. The king just shows up unannounced at a restaurant to foil the machinations of an evil merchant? Sure, babe. I think I saw that same thing in an old episode of Three’s Company.
IDK if we’ll see more of her, but she’s my imaginary friend, and I’m glad she her dukedom got.
Benriya Saitou-san, Isekai ni Iku
Tumblr media
(Handyman Saitou in Another World) AKA I Had To Die and Be Reincarnated In Another World To Finally Get Some Fucking Appreciation
I was surprised by how quickly I fell for this. I think I needed something to take the place of Picking Up Girls In Dungeons, and this satisfied. Plus, dick jokes!
I also liked how it would mix it up between short four panel gags and longer arcs. Fave found family show of the season.
The rest of my watch list:
Isekai Will Never Die:
Isekai Nonbiri Nouka (Farming life in another world) AKA What If Superman Was A Farmer?: Harem Isekai AKA Indolence Is Sin: Part 2
Isekai Ojisan (Isekai Uncle) AKA I’m You But Better, You Fucking Neet
Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko 2nd Season (By the Grace of the Gods 2nd Season) AKA Isekai Slime Tamer AKA Indolence Is Sin: Part 1
Shin Shinka no Mi: Shiranai Uchi ni Kachigumi Jinsei (The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made 2nd Season) AKA My Kawaii Gorilla Wife: The Isekai
Tensei Oujo to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei (The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady) AKA Isekai Lesbian Princess and Her Harem
Wholesome and Adorable:
Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu 2nd Season (I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense 2nd Season) AKA VR Is Life
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale AKA A Girl and Her Hot Elf Tsundere AKA Medieval Fruits Baskets
Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! (Tomo Chan is a Girl!) AKA My Dude, Just Make Your Fucking Move Already!!!
Tsundere Akuyaku Reijou Liselotte to Jikkyou no Endou-kun to Kaisetsu no (Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte) AKA My Dude, She’s Sitting Right Next To You, Make Your Fucking Move Already!!!
Edgelords Assemble!:
Hyouken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu (The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World) AKA Dorm Room Workout Bros: No Homo
Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (The Eminence in Shadow) AKA Isekai Edgelord: Utlimate
Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai wo Sukuu you desu (Adventurers Who Don’t Believe in Humanity Will Save The World) AKA The Emo Quartet and Their Talking Sword
Returning Champions:
Several second seasons, but nothing that qualifies as a “Returning Champion”. Picking Up Girls In Dungeons or Hero Academia might have been included, but for the fact I’ve lost interest in them and stopped watching.
Pour One Out For Interspecies Reviewers:
Oniichan wa Oshimai! (Onimai: I’m Now Your Sister!) AKA Eromanga Sensei 2nd Season - This was animated with so much love – of boobies!!! (hehehe) But seriously, mad love to all my eroanime senseis out there. Your commitment to never half-assing the job of making beautifully drawn sex farces is greatly appreciated. You are doing God’s work.
And one for my “Definitely Eventually Watch” list:
Lupin Zero AKA Lupin: Year One

“Chanchan!
Kipas angin kesedot sampah
Oh kipas angin kesedot sampah
“UCUP!!!” mengetahui lagu yang diputar adalah Kipas Angin Kesedot Sampah, alias lagu favoritnya Ucup, Karen langsung naik darah.
“Kenapa? Lagunya bagus tahu!” protes Ucup.
“Bagus darimana?! Liriknya aneh!”
Ucup dan Karen sibuk berdebat, sementara Udin langsung mengambil ponselku.
“Dahlah, emang payah kalo Ucup yang milih lagunya,” kata Udin.
“Din, tolong puterin AKB48 dong,” pintaku.
“Yang mana?”
“Kimi no koto ga suki dakara.”
“Kaze ni fukaretemo, boku ga sono hana wo mamoru~”
<>
“Ruy,” panggil Karen sambil menepuk pundakku.
“Kenapa, Ren?”
“Kalo ada rest area, bisa mampir dulu? Gue kebelet pipis.”
Mendengar ucapan Karen, aku langsung menepikan mobil ke bahu jalan.
“Kok berhenti?” tanya Karen heran.
“Pipis disana aja, semak-semak,” kataku polos. Ucup dan Udin pun langsung tertawa dibuatnya.
“Heh!!
Cuacanya pun, sama-sama terik.
“Mending kita makan siang dulu,” kata Udin. “Mau coba ke Delapan Padi gak? Katanya disana enak, murah, trus tempatnya instagramable. Karen pasti suka.”
“Eh, boleh tuh! Gue mau foto-foto!” sahut Karen antusias.
“Tunjukin aja jalannya, gue kan buta arah daerah Bandung,” jawabku.
Rumah neneknya Udin cukup asri.
Setelah diperkenalkan, kami beramai-ramai menyalami tangan nenek.
Ah… aku jadi rindu eyang.
Nenek pun mempersilahkan kami masuk, lalu menjamu kami dengan teh hangat.
“Macet gak?” tanya nenek.
“Alhamdulillah enggak kok nek. Lancar jaya,” jawabku.
“Nenek tinggal sendiri?” tanya Karen.

Trus makan!” kata Udin sambil melempar handuk bersih padaku. “Ucup sama Karen udah di bawah, lagi ngobrol sama nenek. Abis makan, ayo kita nonton horor.”
“Anjir nonton horor,” komentarku sambil mengambil baju ganti. “Tapi kebetulan sih, gue baru langganan netpliks. Lo bawa proyektor mini?”
“Bawa. Ucup sama Karen bagian sediain cemilan.”
“Sip!”

Fanclubs machen in jedem Alter Spaß
Später sprach mich Johnny Cash an.

《Tomorrow is a New Year!》
2020 is coming to an end, and what a year this was!
Ironically, this might have been the greatest year of my life, and it's all thanks to you guys! With all of your support, I was able to show the world the potential of THE GREATEST CROSSOVER EVENT IN ANIME HISTORY! Even if it was through some cringy drawings lol
My goal for the next year is still the same, I'll show everyone how great Isekai Quartet truly is, so that one day, there will be so many fanart of it, that y'all won't need me anymore.
But until that day comes, I'll be here, doing what I do best: Sending in the cringe!

Hewwwoooossss!! What anime/s would you think would be a good crossover with TCF?
I don't really watch anime that much so I haven't thought much on it.. but when you mention crossovers I immediately think of Isekai Quartet which is definitely a fun anime I'd recommend!
Tumblr media
What happens when you transport several popular Isekai animes/mangas into a High School scenario? If you know Overlord, Re:Zero, Tanya the Evil, Rising of the Shield Hero, and Water God's Blessing (or whatever it’s english title is) then you'll definitely enjoy this short nonsensical anime!
I don't usually enjoy high school AUs but though they're thrown into a high school setting, the entire show really is about the chaos of Isekaied protagonists sharing their woes and empathising with each other over being isekaied in the first place. Each cast brings their own sense of humor to the show - there's no overarching plot-well there is, but it's not really the focus.
I'm bad at explaining. But It's good.
Go watch it.

Great music show to watch: Wo Men De Ge / Chinese Idol-Our Song
Tumblr media
Rough summary of the show (1st season: 12 eps): Sixteen Chinese artists  (8 young artists; 8 famous veterans), have to form teams of 1 veteran + 1 young artist each. Once they form a pair, the veteran and young artist stay together, collaborate to create new performances each week, and compete with the other teams. The audience is divided into equal age groups and vote for their fave performance each turn. The final winner gets the title of “2-person team with a golden voice”.
Reasons to watch, in no particular order:
So much mutual respect, camaraderie and mutual appreciation. It is a competition, but there is never any sense of aggression or desperate wish to be the best. Competitiveness is minimal. When one team performs, the others show such genuine enjoyment: It’s a playful appreciation of music, the stage and one another.
A wonderful side-effect of minimal competitiveness: there is so little drama. Everyone has debuted or had a career already, so it’s not intense like a real survival show.
Xiao Zhan is a special case, but many young artists are singers more than idols. When those young artists speak, it’s more unrefined and a bit blunter. You get the sense that they make offhand remarks cause they felt like it, and aren’t trying to be an “attractive” person. I cannot stress how much more charming and natural that makes the show.
The veteran cast are big names in the Chinese music scene, but they’re all very fun. Every veteran can make fun of themselves, many are eager to try new things, and some are plain dorks. They get giddy, bicker, fumble...It makes the offstage parts just as fun as performances. Bonus: a nice part of Chinese culture is that an older person is not only respected but should also have a sense of generosity for younger ones’ blunders ( “bao rong”). So whether they signed up for it or not, it’s like each of the young artists is getting an elder sister/brother/dad/uncle for the show’s duration. It’s very platonic and heartening to watch.
There’s a wide-ranging variety of songs and some are flat out gorgeous. Old Chinese songs are good. Some of them are surreal. But the show’s not just tributes to old classics, there are also new and western songs. I'm still sobbing about the classics.
Some of the voices are beautiful sensory experiences. In the young ones: Zhou Shen, Liu Yuning, Ayanga. In the seniors: Fei Yuqing, Zhou Hua Jian, Luo Qi, Li Keqin, Na Ying, Angela Chang etc...When these people open their mouths to sing, you can hear that there’s substance regardless of age. Whoa. In terms of musical experience, this show has real substance.
You get to watch the teams’ chemistry grow over time. Some teams have great chemistry, I cannot stress this enough. Even the pairing-up process itself, based on blind auditions, is impish and fun.
Whether you prefer a music-oriented group or an entertainment/performance-led group, you will be served. The 16 artists are first divided into Group A or B for pairing up and initial rankings. Broadly speaking, Group A’s young artists are more music-oriented (Xiao Gui, Zhou Shen, Liu Yuning, Xu Weizhou), while Group B’s are more performance/entertainment-led (Ayanga, Li Ziting, Xiao Zhan, Jiang Yiqiao). All 8 veterans start as singing-focused but again, Group B’s play more with entertainment than Group A. Depending on your preference, you’ll find something interesting to watch either way (and from ep. 7 onwards, Groups A and B get mixed).
Despite the rough summary, the show’s format is not repetitive and evolves over the course of the season. You get different kinds of face-offs, promise.
The MC is just right: He’s funny but not focused on being funny, has a good rapport with many of the artists, has depth and doesn’t go overboard with his remarks.
This doesn’t sum up everything, but I have a lot of love for this show and it’s getting too long... 11 episodes have already been subbed so far, and by the looks of it, it is likely going to be fully subbed later on. Here is the link to the 1st Episode with English Subs.
Whether it’s just because you love Xiao Zhan or for other reasons, give this show a shot! It’s really wholesome and good. ;__;
