Went bonkers on twitter about the so called ‘teacher appreciation week’. I got laid off on teacher appreciation week!! I was called a burden for needing sick time. Context: I was hospitalized 3 times this year. Teaching now is a friggin joke! Students have verbally, written, and quietly vocalized their discomfort too. Students do not want to learn, they see no value or merit in it and we created this. Students only care about earning a good grade and less so on how they earn it. We have completely failed them. Teaching now requires us to instill fear and obedience while failing to correct any actual behavior problems. It creates entitlement that as long as the work is ‘good’ then who cares how it’s done. There is little to no accountability by administration while we teachers take the flack and anger of those who see a failing system. We are under appreciated, underpaid, and overworked. But I am the burden? The system is failing. If changes are not made, we will create a lost generation where there is no escape from. I cannot ethically and morally do my job with the way things are. And when I complain, I am told I am selfish, to think of the kids! It is still a JOB. I deserve to live! I am not a burden. I know my worth. And I am angry. And if you are not, then you need to look into the problem and stop blaming US for what the COUNTRY says is acceptable and demands us to do.

Fuck teacher appreciation week.Fuck the system.

I am so done.
