Okay! So I have seem some people, understandably, critiquing the training exercise that Anakin assigns Ahsoka in Tales of the Jedi.
Tumblr media
This? It's dangerous. It's irresponsible. It's a sure way to give someone a concussion. Over. And over. And over. It's exactly the kind of harebrained and reckless idea Anakin would have.
But the test was not designed to help her eventually survive O66. It was designed because Anakin didn't like the standard exercises every Jedi has to do. He thought the test wasn't tough enough, so designed a similar test that was "tougher."
Tumblr media
And this standard test was likely designed for a couple reasons. The first and likely primary reason is that the simulation helps test a Jedi on their foot control and precision of saber movements. You can see that she doesn't have much area to jump or maneuver around. A secondary lesson might be that the practice could help prepare a Padawan in the event they're in the field and surrounded. The bots are designed to simulate battle droids, after all.
The exercise literally isn't designed with stamina and resourcefulness in mind.
Fortunately, TCW did illustrate, time and time again, that Ahsoka is resourceful in her fights. The Citadel Arc. The arc when she is kidnapped by Trandoshans. The arc in season 5 when pirates attack her and the younglings. And also the "Wrong Jedi" arc when Ahsoka must outrun and escape an entire Gar battalion. So, it was well established that she is able to hold her own and it was established that she had the ability to create the circumstances for her own survival in instances where the field was open and manipulatable and she had assistance. She had already learned how to create her own opportunity or means to escape a sticky situation and how to think in a way where once she had the means or opening to escape, she is able to do so effectively and smartly.
But did she have the stamina and blade skills to create said opening so she then had an opportunity to escape? Especially when surrounded or cornered and alone?
The point of O66 was to literally surround and corner the Jedi. As seen by these dialogue prompts in Jedi: Fallen Order.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jedi who found themselves with the opportunity to escape (like Kanan, Cal, and Ahsoka, Obi Wan, and Yoda, to name a few) would escape. And at that point, many of them were as good as gone.
And it has been illustrated over and over that when Jedi are cornered and surrounded:
Tumblr media
like with Minas Velti,
Tumblr media
Ima-Gun Di,
Tumblr media
Aayla Secura,
Tumblr media
Depa Billaba,
Tumblr media
and Jaro Tepal...
... that they can get far and that they have great saber movement and foot control and that they can use their skill to make time for others to get away or survive, but it also always marks the end. It's an impossible situation to get out of. And as much endurance and skill as they might have in many areas, this was never a situation they'd be prepared for or that they were trained to survive. And that was literally the point.
I'm going to hazard a guess that most Jedi did not have "practice" escaping being tracked and hunted (like in the "Wookie Hunt" arc), out running and out witting an entire GAR battalion (like in the "Wrong Jedi" arc), escaping high-security situations while surrounded by high levels of personnel (like in the Citadel arc), or to develop the physical endurance and agility to last long enough to create an out while literally surrounded or cornered (like with the reckless training exercise Anakin puts her through).
Anakin made the test about having no way out and being overwhelmed. He made a test likely about footwork into one about developing the endurance and skill to hold off until you can create the circumstances of your escape while being surrounded or cornered and alone.
Ahsoka said it herself that every Jedi had to take the standard test. And there are a lot of flaws with that it. It isn't designed with the idea of creating the means to escape being surrounded, but to just hold off and hold off until the end of the simulation. I have no doubt that primary purpose would be to practice foot work with blade movements. But in terms of the secondary lesson, it mostly trains them for a speedy defeat against battle droids while having no way out. But the fact that every Jedi has to take it goes to show that they were not really taught to get out of being surrounded outside a quick simulation. Because why would they need to be? Not like they knew O66 was coming.
I get that the reason Dave Felony wrote and produced this episode was just to parallel O66, but I do think that in terms of the test's secondary lesson (developing the skill and endurance and having the practice in the event you're surrounded with no immediate out), Anakin's was far more reckless yet likely more effective.
Because this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...was always going to be a near impossible situation to escape from. Without the endurance, foot work, or blade skill to hold off until there was a means and opportunity to escape, Ahsoka would not have survived.

hey dyknow what flowers are in skull lake in botw? im pretty sure theyre a type of lilly, but i forgot the name
okay so I haven't booted up my own game to check them out but I think I found some photos online—this is it, yeah?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There aren't any flowers that bloom like this underwater, so that aspect is definitely a fantasy twist. But I also don't recognize them as a specific non-underwater flower. I don't think they're a perfect analog to anything IRL—so if someone does recognize these, lmk!
Otherwise what I can offer are some possible inspirations. There are four general vibes I'm reminded of:
Terrestrial true lilies: the pattern of having three petals* on top and three underneath is very characteristic of a lily, like you said—specifically a terrestrial lily and not a water lily. (We use "lily" for a lot of plants, most of which aren't "true lilies".) *Technically on lilies they're called tepals, not petals, which is just a distinction about the specific botanical structures on a flower.
Tiger lilies: a type of true lily that has dark spots, like the flowers seen here.
Water lotus: so there are water lilies and water lotuses. Water lilies sit right on the water and have a ton of narrow petals. Water lotuses often have broader petals and emerge on stalks above the water—similar to the broad leaves and long stalks visible in the game. However, from what I can see, the BOTW flowers are missing the characteristic lotus seed head in the center + have way fewer petals.
Narcissus: true lilies aren't the only ones to have that 3-3 tepal pattern! Among others, narcissus flowers also have it, and they remind me of how broad and flat these flowers are.
Photos, in order:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Image sources: [1] [2] [3] [4])
Basically, those BOTW flowers have some distinct enough characteristics that I can't just write them off as generic fantasy flowers, but they're probably not based on one specific species either.

Albuca spiralis
The genus Albuca is closely related to Ornithogalum, but many of the Albuca species have an unusual floral trait - the 3 outer tepals spread widely, while the 3 inner ones are cupped around the stamens and pistil. This is very much the case with Albuca spiralis, with its downward-facing greenish-yellow fragrant flowers, The strikingly spiraled leaves give the species its name. From the winter-rainfall region in western South Africa.

Plant of the Day
Sunday 9 April 2023
The flowers of the species Hippeastrum papilio (butterfly amaryllis) are so sophisticated compared to many of the cultivars. The blooms have a distinctive colouring with greenish-white tepals strongly streaked and edged with dark red. This vigorous species can be evergreen and may flower twice a year, in spring and autumn.

New Designs! Because of the polls and the darkworld taking place in Asgore's "Flower King" shop again, Feylow can be a goat again. design is more heavily daffodil themed, the head looks more like the corona while the shoulder... thing... (idk what they're called, its too big to be just a collar?) is the tepals. which makes more sense regarding the coloring as the corona is what typically gets the darker edges and not the tepals.
all skirt are the leaves, feet are the bulbs. sash based on a stigma.
(Feylow's redesign influenced by Moon's design)
The angel wings are tiny and fit on the back, normally not visible.
Tumblr media
Ruler, the "Flower King" (Though Ruler is a nonbinary they/them) is based on a Crown of Thorns flower.
They're influenced by Chara's perception of what it means to be an adult.
Ruler is a mob "boss" (pun on boss monster), a greedy capital chasing murdering fem fatale. They sin, they're a "devil." A toxic (literally, as the flower they're based on is toxic) and have a blood/thorn visual motif. They rule with an iron fist, they're a dictator. (They're similar to Queen in some regards, but Queen is more... benevolent and (mostly) harmless. Has good intentions. This is NOT the case with Ruler. They're a proper villain out for themselves.)
There's aspects of the adults who've abandoned Chara in Ruler, mainly Chara's birth mother, Tom the stepdad and Asriel. Becoming an adult is something that corrupts you into something sinister. It's less so the poeple themselves, but the painful aspects that overshadow who they are. They're caricatures, boild down to simple ideas.
but that's hardly all they are. If you squint, you'll see those aspects, but it's more so what Chara fears they'll become like. In a sense, Ruler is a mirror to Chara's fear of what being an adult would look like AND what they could want. They're very much the IDEA of what's bad with adulthood -drugs, sex, violence, money. I never touch the topic of Chara's love life even when they become an adult mostly because I feel Chara's a very private person with a lot of trauma and mental health issues that a relationship is the last thing on their mind.
...But that isn't to say that stuff doesn't worry the hell out of them. There are feelings they repress. Despite their darkworld form being a cherub, Chara IS 16. It's a natural part of growing up to have more adult feelings and desires. (speaking as asexual, even asexuality is a spectrum. i'm not giving chara any specific sexuality here, just saying even asexuality is still on the table.)
Tumblr media
Chara wants to fight this boss so frickin bad. Feylow is just embarrassed their older sibling is beefing with their new friend.
But yeah so there's never any 1-1 analog for either of these darkners, when boiled down they're "childhood innocence" vs. "sinful adulthood." They're neither Chara nor the people they knew, and they get their own histories outside the Dreemurr Family.
I assume at the very least Asgore is going to be involved, with it being his shop. I think it'd be funny if Raine pulled a Berdly and tried to partner up with Ruler to get some authority -only to realize the extent of Ruler's depravity and ineptness and side with Chara & co. to defeat them. But I feel that's retreading what happened with the other fallen kids when usurping Asgore and too similar to Queen. But hey, first draft version of the ideas you know?
Anyway Frisk REALLY needs their own stuff going on the plot, they're too reactive and inactive in the story and needs their own B plot. (Or rather, Chara's needs to be the B-Plot, cause it can easily just turn into sulking/anger with little progress for a while)

Scientific Name: Anemone berlandieri Common Name(s): Tenpetal anemone, tenpetal thimbleweed Family: Ranunculaceae (buttercup) Life Cycle: Perennial Leaf Retention: Deciduous Habit: Forb USDA L48 Native Status: Native Location: Lucas, Texas Season(s): Winter
Lies! All lies!
First off, when a plant is named “tenpetal,” wouldn’t you expect its defining feature to be flowers with ten petals? But look at this thing. Count’em. Do you see ten? No, that number is highly variable between individuals and is not a reliable key for identifying this species.
Worse, those … aren’t even petals. No, they’re sepals. This plant doesn’t have any petals at all. (When a plant either lacks petals or when its petals and sepals are indistinguishable, the term “tepal” is used, but I’m not enough of an expert to know if it applies here.)
After the flower appears, the stem continues to grow so that the bract becomes sufficiently far down the stem to appear as leaves. Don’t be mistaken. The leaves for this plant grow only at its base.
This plant is a perennial that blooms in late winter and early spring, then goes dormant over summer and fall. White is most common, but the flowers’ colors can range from white to purple.
Two Anemone species, A. berlandieri and A. caroliniana, are found here in North Texas, and they can be difficult to tell apart at first glance. Using this side-by-side comparison, we can identify this as A. berlandieri by the hairs on the stem below the bract even without any basal leaves visible in this photo.

Rsat7d Characters as Flowers
(Long Post)
Tumblr media
Floriography is the language of flowers. All flowers hold different meanings, often based on the type of flower, the colour of the flower, or both.
Snow White
Red Roses
♡ Roses symbolise different kinds of love depending on the colour. Red roses specifically symbolise love & romance, but I like to think that they represent love as whole instead.
♡ Snow is a very loving person, no questions asked. I have a feeling that she really likes roses, specifically the red ones since they remind her of her mother...
♡ Much like a rose who has thorns to protect itself, Snow can very much stand up for herself when someone's being a jerk to her or her friends. Every rose has it's thorns after all...
Merlin
Nemophilas & Blue Hyacinths
♢ From the greek word “Nemos” which means wooded pasture or small forest and “Phileos” meaning to love, also known as Baby Blue Eyes, they symbolise success & victory.
♢ Much like how Merlin ended up finding his happy ending with Snow, I'd say he wound up pretty victorious in the end. He broke his curse AND ended up marrying the love of his life
♢ Blue hyacinths symbolize sincerity & loyalty. Merlin loves Snow with such sincerity & he's undoubtedly loyal to his friends. He and the F7 are pretty frickin' tight with each other if you ask me.
Arthur
Orange Gladiolis, White, Blue & Purple Hydrangeas
☆ Gladiolis symbolise strength of character & we all know that Arthur's pretty heckin' strong.
☆ Fun fact: Gladiolis get their name from the gladiators of Ancient Rome. The expression 'death or gladioli' is derived from from the tournaments held by the Romans, as the winner gets praised with gladiolis at the end of the match.
☆ White Hydrangeas are sometimes associated with boastfulness as they bloom many flowers, but only produce a few seeds & Arthur can be... a little boastful sometimes...
☆ But hydrangeas can also mean apology & desire to deeply understand
☆ I can see Arthur as someone who'll try to right his wrongs once he sees the error of his ways & try to understand why he was wrong to avoid doing it again.
Hans
Cornflowers & Green Chrysanthemums
♧ Cornflowers symbolize reliability, rememberance & a bunch of other things. Hans is someone you can rely on when you're dealing with something that emotionally burdens you.
♧ He's the type of guy you would go to when you want to vent something; he'll even offer you some snacks while you're trying to explain to him what's bothering you...
♧ Chrysanthemums are used as a token of friendship during the Victorian Era. Out of all the seven + Snow, he's the second friend you've made out of everyone, he's really easy to befriend.
♧ Green Chrysanthemums symbolize good health & believe me when I say this; When you're with Hans, you LITERALLY cannot starve, because he can and he will coerce you into healthy eating habits.
Jack
Magnolias/Peonies
♤ Much like Jack, Magnolias symbolize nobility & wealth, & is celebrated all around the world for it's resilient blooms.
♤ It also symbolizes perseverance & endurance since it has tough flowers that have thick tepals to protect it from hungry beetles.
♤ This shows that despite coming off as narcissistic, he's still a strong fighter & WILL come through to help in times of need.
♤ This guy takes self-care very seriously so he can do his best in  whooping your butt.
♤ Peonies are another flower that symbolize wealth, since they come in clusters.
♤ Peonies are traditionally given on special occasions to signify goodwill & best wishes & Jack would give you little gifts if he likes you (albeit romantically or platonically).
♤ He'll even give you little trinkets from his quests like a magpie :D
❈ It's canon that the triplets are engineering geniuses, but I have this headcanon that they manifest it differently from eachother.
Pino
Blue/Purple Irises
✣ Irises are a symbol of hope, courage & wisdom. The flower is named after Iris, goddess of rainbows & messenger of Hera. She was the one who navigates the path from earth to heaven for the souls of the dead.
✣ Much like how Iris guides the souls of the dead towards heaven, Pino tries to guide his brothers towards the right paths in life.
✣ As the oldest of the triplets, he's more cautious when it comes to approaching new things. He's cautious because he doesn't want any of them to get hurt.
✣ He's had his fair share of negative experiences & uses them as an example of what his brothers shouldn't be.
✢ He's quite analytical whenever faced with a problem & often gives off advice that can come off as a bit harsh & can come off as a bit of a know-it-all sometimes...
✣ He's book smart & tends to look more on the facts & tries to think ahead so he can know what to do, when to do it & how to do it. He tends to find out what's wrong & immediately tries to fix it.
✣ His younger brothers look up to him whenever things go wrong, because if there's one thing they know for sure, it's that their older brother's got the answers to most of it 90% of the time. They do need to get a little nagged at though... (¯^¯٥)
Noki
Blue/Purple Clematis
✻ Clematis flowers symbolize ingenuity or the trait of artifice due to it's clever ability to climb around walls and other surfaces.
✻ Blue Clematis flowers symbolize loyalty & intellect, while Purple Clematis are favoured by clever & quick-witted people.
✻ If Pino is book smart, Noki is street smart. He knows how to deal with people & he definitely knows how to talk his way out of things.
✻I headcanon that he's the most social out of the group
✻ Clematis flowers also symbolize mischief, with a nickname like the devil's darning needle & being very difficult to kill, you can guess why. (It has occured to me that he kinda reminds me of Hermes actually—)
✻ When they're not inventing, the triplets go off and do their own hobbies away from each other. Pino likes to go on walks, Kio likes to collect scrap metal & Noki? Let's just say he likes to do a little bit of trolling sometimes >:)
✻ Noki is a menace during April Fools, just a heads up.  What? You've gotta use your smarts on other things anyways :)...
Kio
Red/Purple Asters
❋ Asters are another flower that symbolize wisdom/intellect. Their name is derived from the greek goddess Astraea.
❋ The greek word “Astír” means star.
❋ Red Asters symbolize undying love and devotion. He may not be as analytical as Pino, or street smart like Noki, but what he lacks in those he makes for with his emotional intelligence.
❋ Kio is more emotionally in tune than he let's on, don't let his shy demeanor fool you. He's constantly observing everyone around him if they're ok or not.
❋ He doesn't know ALL the solutions to your problems & he's not good with his words, but he'd definitely sit with you & listen to you rant about your problems.
❋ Kio is quite wise when it comes to emotions...
❋ There's something about him knowing what's wrong with you without saying anything or how he knows how to put into words what you're thinking of or how he knows when to speak & when to listen at the right times.
❋ The fact that he just knows, is quite comforting & a bit unsettling at times... (゜゜)

In the past, we’ve posted about Toxicoscordion death camas genus, particularly how the genus Zigadenus was split up and the species within it were divided into other genera. When we visited Alaska, we found yet another death camas formerly in Zigadenus that’s been moved, this one to Anticlea. This is Anticlea elegans, commonly called mountain death camas, alkali grass, elegant death camas, and camas wand lily. It’s named for the Anticlea of Greek mythology, queen of Ithaca and mother of Odysseus.
Tumblr media
Like Toxicoscordion,  Anticlea  death camases have a large, yellowish green gland at the base of their tepals.
Tumblr media
These plants were really dangerous for early European colonists (as well as their livestock), who would mistake them for edible camas and Allium species, and subsequently wind up poisoned. Anticlea poisoning is pretty unpleasant, and causes vomiting and serious respiratory issues.

"water Drops on Snowdrops" by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Drops of rain water on the first spring flowers - Flowers: lack petals and are composed of six white flower segments known as tepals (they look like petals). The inner three tepals are smaller and have a notch in the tip, with a green upturned ‘v’ pattern visible.Snowdrops are found across the UK. They favour damp soil and are often found in broadleaved woodland and along riverbanks, but can also be seen in parks, gardens, meadows and scrub. The species normally flowers in January and February,

Everyone I've ever known who knows a whole lot about flower morphology and biology has also been just a little bit of a pervert.
I think saying "tepals" too much changes a person.
"tepals" sounds like a word that would get your ticktock instantly demonetized IMO.

Aloe ferox
What we now call Aloe ferox was once divided into 2 species - the more easterly-occurring Aloe candelabrum and the more westerly-occurring Aloe ferox. The white-lipped tepal-tips of the flowers pictured show that it is of the candelabrum type, but the differences between the 2 types are probably not sufficient to warrant 2 species-names. While the flowers of Aloe ferox are most often in the red to orange range, they can come in other colors as well, including the pink flowers seen here.
