I feel like anyone who's about to embark on attempting to type out a character's accent phoentically (at least as well as one can with English) should probably stop for a moment before they get going and ask themselves, "How would I, myself, feel about a fic where the one character who sounds like me had their speech written out like this and every other character just got their dialogue left in standard spelling?" I feel like a lot of people would tone it down a bit, at least, if they'd done that thought experiment first.

(Anyone who answered "but I don't have an accent!" isn't allowed to write out anyone else's accent, ever. This rule may seem harsh but you need it. Really, you do. Because you've never had anyone treat your accent as abnormal or comical or wrong, so you really don't know what you're inflicting on others here.)

Do you think some of them miss Emily Garland, their friend, who helped them escape, not Vivian Walton. Do they mourn her even though she’s not dead, just so unrecognisable from the person they knew. Do you think seeing what was presumably the most traumatic event of their lives being recreated over and over again was their last straw to leave Walton Media. Do you think some of them sought out Trevor and Angela just to try and find some solace in their pain. Do you think they tried to help them create Solano Hills and make the documentary not for some sort of revenge but just as a way of trying to get closure.

Or do you think some of them tried a similar approach to Vivian, pretend, get a new identity, stay with Walton Media even if they’ve hurt you so much because that’s where your friends are. Do you think some of them have become so caught up in a fantasy like Vivian is and have told so many lies to the point where they’ve started believing them.

Y’all need to look up the meaning of satire and trope cuz this is ridiculous 😭. The American Society of Magical Negroes is a satirical film about the magical negro trope often used in media. Satire means that it will be making fun of the trope and even criticizing it. These types of movies/books usually only have one Black character and it often requires said Black character to do heavy lifting for the white character(s). It’s literally what happened in Ghost with Whoopi Goldberg. As much as we might like the movie it’s true. I also have a post about Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa and that trope goes crazy in that book. The Black character most likely will be portrayed to be stereotypical or 50/50 wind up dying, teaching the white character some sort of lesson, and then being forgotten until it’s convenient or completely while the white MC gets some sort of power up and their arc is completed. I promise it’s not gonna hurt you to laugh at how stupid it is. I’m also pretty sure Key & Peele had a skit about this.
