Their touches really do become increasingly intimate from about Act of Grace through to the end.
First, Ed just reaching for Stede’s chest and shoulder, like touching him will keep him alive.
Tumblr media
Then the kiss. Not just that hand on Stede’s face but the one around his shoulders that slides down his back.
Tumblr media
The second kiss in the moonlight, when Stede reaches for and holds the back of Ed’s head to kiss him deeper.
Tumblr media
The intense kiss against the wall - Ed just grabbing Stede’s shoulders and waist, Stede pushing his hand into Ed’s hair. It’s a combination of their first and second kisses, just that much more intense and reciprocal.
Tumblr media
And the confident way they touch each other on the beach - Stede holding Ed’s arms, Ed caressing Stede’s face.
Tumblr media
But the bit that really I think makes it is that final touch as Ed rests his hand on Stede’s shoulder and Stede holds his arm. It’s so comfortable and intimate, a kind of repeat of the "Act of Grace" moment, but it’s not tentative or grasping, and Stede is holding Ed, giving him that equal reassurance.

Things I love about Cal Kestis (in no particular order):
1) A good boy. A very good boy.
2) Very polite, very sweet.
3) Really just out here doing his best.
4) Does not deserve any of this.
5) Looks adorable in a poncho.
6) Will stroll into a Sith Lord’s underwater fortress and then bring down the entire ocean on said Sith Lord.
7) A scrappy young lad who is ride or die for his friends.

Today I'm Thinking About...
...I've been head-empty for a couple days, super busy and when I COULD think about writing, thinking about my surprise pinch-hit for the SHL RBB and my fic for the DMBJ Small/Med Ship exchange - I have ideas for both but nothing written, and couldn't share regardless cause challenges.
BUT! Yesterday I did have a lot of fun thinking about my next May Trope Mayhem fill. Fuck knows when I'll write it, but, with that in mind...
...today I'm thinking about a modern WangNingXian AU where all three are about the biggest fucking idiots on the planet.
Idiot 1:
Wei Wuxian: woe is me, I know LWJ is in love with Wen Ning. I will be oh-so-self-sacrificing and try to help my two dumb best friends be together.
Wei Wuxian texts Lan Wangji: there's a carnival in town, you should invite Wen Ning!
Idiot 2:
Wen Ning: ...why is Lan Wangji...texting ME? this is ridiculous, he's in love with Wei Ying? Maybe Wei Ying's not available? No, no, maybe Lan Wangji was just too nervous to ask him directly. I will do him a solid, since I know how much they care about each other, and make sure that the person Lan Wangji REALLY wants to see will be there.
Wen Ning texts Wei Wuxian: oh my god, oh my god, Lan Wangji invited me to the carnival I CANNOT BE ALONE WITH HIM what will we even talk about it's absolutely ridiculous no you have to come, please please please?
Idiot 3:
Lan Wangji: ...the only reason that Wei Wuxian would instruct me to invite Wen Qionglin is because he is utterly oblivious to how much Wen Qionglin adores him, and wants to be sure that they each have a nice evening. In the name of my feelings for both of them, I will do Wei Wuxian this favor.
Lan Wangji, showing up at the carnival to see them both there, Wen Ning looking shy, Wei Wuxian waving and grinning: *lwj.exe has ceased to function*
...and so it goes. :D

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

frankly, the people whose kneejerk reaction to bisan asking for a global strike form the 21st-28th is to say that it takes years to organize a general strike are really unhelpful! no one is saying otherwise, but palestine will be a smoking crater if we all wait for years to do anything - bisan is asking us to do something now. Like are we only supposed to do something if we can do it perfectly??? At some point it’s a valid critique about the work that goes into social movement, and at another point I feel like some people are just trying to absolve themselves from not putting any effort into observing a week of economic inaction.
like idk! I get it, okay! People have bills to pay that don’t magically go away for a strike, we don’t have nearly enough social infrastructure in place to support people to fully stop going to work for a week. But fuck, dude! Stop immediately responding in such a defeatist way! Cut out unnecessary purchases! Try to shop local! Put more effort into promoting Palestinian voices online! Attend a protest, call a local rep, do something!

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded psychopath happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.
#seeing some discourse and im not saying lucy grey didnt know#im saying she never dropped the kind of hints that she knew like she did in the movie#or if she did snow isnt worried about them until he very suddenly is consumed by them#snow is not concerned about whether or not she believed him. of course she did! hes snow!#but then shes gone…. for a while……#and its the sudden immediate drastic unravelling that comes across so clearly in the book#that i knew wouldn’t translate to screen yet still cant help but miss#the hunger games#coriolanus snow#tbosas#lucy gray baird#not a crime or anything just a note that i cannot stop thinking about#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#this is all from memory of reading it quite a while ago. so maybe 3 pages is an exaggeration#but i remember it happening VERY quickly and without much external cause#like we as the reader have no indication as to whether shes nearby or not.#snow has no idea either. he just SUSPECTS. and his suspicion breeds the hatred that has been bubbling inside him all this time#he hates how she undoes him. he hates that he WOULD run away with her if shed let him keep his secrets#and he HATES more than anything that she makes him WANT to tell his secrets#he wants to be vulnerable and reveal the ugly nasty parts about himself and still be loved#but he does not let himself and it is everyone’s downfall#he chooses cruelty bc it is easy and familiar and makes him feel more powerful than the vulnerable give and take that real love requires

I recently bought an art book on Caspar David Friedrich, whose emotional work stuck with me since I first saw it in a museum years ago. Over the course of a few weeks, I read about his life and at the same time did studies/interpretations of many pieces. It was a really enjoyable and fulfilling project; here's a good lot of them together :)
I was happy to see many people enjoyed Friedrich's work+my interpretations while posting them individually. It took way too long, but I FINALLY set up a print shop for some of these + some other pieces for those who expressed interest. Thank you so much!

I love first-person because it’s about what the narrator chooses to tell. What do they focus on? What do they leave out? What can you learn from reading between the lines? Are they lying to you? Are they lying to themself? It’s great for unreliable narrators and for epistolary storytelling! It’s intimate but there’s still a distance because you aren’t really seeing the narrator’s thoughts--you’re just seeing the story that they’ve constructed.
I love second-person because it’s a conversation. Does “you” mean a broad, indefinite “you”? Does “you” really mean “I” but with plausible deniability? Does “you” mean one specific person? Can they hear the narrator? Do they know the narrator? What is the relationship here? Who’s talking? Who’s listening?
I love third-person limited because it’s focused and intimate. What does the world look like from inside this character’s head? What are they seeing? What are they feeling? It doesn’t grant them the privacy that first-person does; the narrative isn’t something they’ve chosen, it’s invisible and inescapable. As a reader you’re not watching so much as astral projecting.
(I love singular point of view because of how much it leans into that limitation. You’re not getting the whole story; you’re not seeing anything unless this character sees it. How do you embrace that? What do you do with the gaps around the edges? How does that define--or warp--the events that they’re experiencing?
I love multiple points of view because of how it broadens your understanding of the story and the world. If two point-of-view characters react in opposite ways to the same thing, what does that tell you about them? About the world? How does it feel to spend time inside a character’s head and then see them from someone’s else’s point of view? How do all of these viewpoints work together?)
I love third-person omniscient because the narrative is a character. It’s great for stories that know they’re stories! It allows for a camaraderie between the narrator and the reader! It allows for wider and more cinematic descriptions because you’re not limited to what a specific person can see! It lets you look at the characters from outside while still giving you the option to delve into their heads because you have full control over what you’re focusing on!
And I love authors who can combine viewpoints in ways you wouldn’t think would work but manage to pull it off! Stories with multiple point-of-view characters where one is first-person and the others are third! Stories that combine first- and second-person! Stories where the omniscient narrator suddenly refers to themself in the first person! Stories where you realize halfway through that you were wrong about who was narrating it!
Isn’t it fantastic that there are so many different ways to tell stories!!!!

I think it's funniest if Luke and Anakin have completely opposite opinions on sand actually
Anakin: I don't like sand, it's course and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere UGH
Luke: I like sand. Reminds me of home. The good old days when all I had to worry about was not being allowed to go to tosche station to pick up some power converters :') I would happily take a sand bath
