#this conversation took place like a year and a half after we were roommates btw. i had seen her maybe twice in that time period
you want a new kind of guy, fine, i raise you: the lady i was briefly roommates with in college who once smoked a blunt at a party and then spent an hour confessing earnestly to me that she genuinely preferred reading detailed episode recaps over actually watching the tv show in question

MESSAGES: To Remus Prince (Presentation)
Tuesday, 16:15
Hello. This is Logan Sanders from Prof. Smith’s seminar. Do you have any suggestions for how we should go about completing the upcoming assessment?
Remus Prince: who dis
I literally just stated it. Logan Sanders.
I wear the tie.
Remus Prince: OHHH
Remus Prince: Well 1stly
Remus Prince: What’s the best planet in the solar system?
Pardon?
Remus Prince: i LitERaLlY JuSt stAtED iT
That has nothing to do with anything, we just need to get through this project.
Remus Prince: if u want to work then u have to answer
Jupiter.
Remus Prince: cool.
Remus Prince: You’ll do.
Remus Prince: My name is Remus.
I know. We did actually swap phone numbers. We in fact discussed which topic we would be doing for over fifteen minutes in the seminar. So we have indeed met. If you continue to be obnoxious then this will be a easier project.
.
MESSAGES: To Remus Sanders (Presentation)
Tuesday, 16:22
Why did you ask that question?
Remus Prince: I asked my brother that question and he answered earth
Remus Prince: I’ve had trust issues ever since
Roman’s favourite planet is Earth?
 Remus Prince: HAH
Remus Prince: ye he’s an idiot
Remus Prince: I’ve gotta test everyone now.
Remus Prince: You passed btw
Remus Prince: WAIT!
Remus Prince: Do u know Ro?
Yes, he is my friend and roommate.
Remus Prince: What was ur name again????????
You can literally scroll up and reread it. I refuse. You got into university for a reason and so you can manage my name.
Remus Prince: jk
Okay then. Do you want to discuss how we should go about creating this powerpoint?
Remus Prince: what’s there to ‘discuss’?
We can separately conduct our research however it is regrettably better to meet up in person to practise not only giving the presentation but also the construction of the presentation itself.
Remus Prince: man you just love sending essays huh
I have written out longer messages. I don’t understand the point of sending a sentence at a time and risk getting interrupted. Plus at least my texting doesn’t seem all like an assault of constant notifications.
Remus Prince: fair
Shall we say that we should aim to get our presentation research finished by two weeks (15th). That leaves us another two weeks to construct the powerpoint, gather more research if necessary, then practise presenting.
Remus Prince: k

Octopussy: So! I’m just sitting here. Y’know. Vibing.
Octopussy: Then out of nowhere the nerd from my class starts messaging me about the group project that’s due a month away
Octopussy: like wtf
Octopussy: nice to know the nerd thing isn’t just appearance
Vigilant: help
Octopussy: he made a big deal about meeting up as well to do this!
Octopussy: No one in the class even cares!
Octopussy: No one is even remotely
Octopussy: Not even close
Octopussy: To thinking about that project right now!
Octopussy: We’ve got ages!
Vigilant: oh sweet jesus
Octopussy: Like! We’ve got a month!
Octopussy: AN ENTIRE MONTH
Octopussy: Like he also wants to meet up as well to practise
Octopus: Like ew.
Top-Hat-Gay: Are you done?
Octopussy: ye
Octopussy: he’s a dick
Vigilant: oh thank god
Top-Hat-Gay: Ha, as if you believe in god.
Vigilant: If it stops Re from not spamming us then I’ll believe whatever.
Octopussy: rude
Vigilant: bitch
Top-Hat-Gay: On an actually important note, which one of you last used my nail bag?
Octopussy: me!
Octopussy: you need more green
Top-Hat-Gay: No I fucking don’t!
Top-Hat-Gay: There was an entirely new bottle in there!
Octopussy: I said what I said.

Octopussy: Thank bby
Octopussy: ALSO!
Octopussy: I found out the nerd also lives with Ro.
Top-Hat-Gay: So?
Vigilant: hE’S FORBIDDEN
Top-Hat-Gay: Wait so the nerd is Logan?
Octopussy: He is!
Octopussy: not that it seems to be having any effect on Ro. he’s as dense as a brick.
Top-Hat-Gay: I saw him today going into Remy’s.
Vigilant: Why are we even talking about him
Vigilant: Like who gives a shit.
Octopussy: dunno
Octopussy: just thought it was weird
Top-Hat-Gay: Maybe you should switch partners. Especially if he wants to meet up at some point.
Octopussy: nah
Octopussy: not worth it
Top-Hat-Gay: A teacher wouldn’t care. They only want to see good grades. They won’t mind moving stuff around for you.
Octopussy: He seems harmless.
Vigilant: you literally called him a dick after one conversation.
Octopussy: he is a dick
Octopussy: he seems stuffy but just a nerd through and through. He’s not going to be a prick or anything.
Vigilant: This isn’t really about him. He already got you talking about you know who in your first ever conversation. Maybe you shouldn’t hang around him.
Octopussy: I just thought it was interesting
Octopussy: It doesn’t mean jack shit
Octopussy: Not everything I talk about has some grand meaning.
Octopussy: I just thought it was weird that this nerd I share my classes with also lives with my bro.
Top-Hat-Gay: And that’s perfectly fine Re.
Octopussy: soz V
Octopussy: didn’t mean to blow up in your face
Octopussy: just annoying to feel psycho-analysed

Vigilant: that’s why we don’t go shopping with you
GROUPCHAT: THE FAM ILY
Tuesday, 16:38
Pat-on-the-back: Heya guys, are we all in for dinner tonight?
Logan.S: I am.
YourHopesandDreams: I will be in at 7. If you could be so compassionate to push your meal back until then, I would be truly indebted to you.
Pat-on-the-back:  Fine by me!
Logan.S: I am agreeable.
Pat-on-the-back: Also Lo! Are you finished with your work?
Logan.S: I have finished my to-do list so I am available if I’m needed.
Pat-on-the-back: No, you’re all good! I just wanted to check. It sounded like you were doing work for like four hours straight.
Logan.S: It took three hours thank you very much.
Logan.S: So what are we doing for dinner?
Pat-on-the-back: I was thinking lasagne!
Pat-on-the-back: also! Don’t think I’ll notice that change in topic!
Pat-on-the-back: I thought we all agreed on two hour stretches of work with a 15 min break at least. I mean... it’s even written on our calendar! There’s no way you forgot, did you Mister!
Logan.S: It’s fine Pat.
Logan.S: Just let it go
Logan.S: I needed to get it done
Logan.S: I don’t need to be babied.
Logan.S: I’m taking a break now. I’m okay.
Pat-on-the-back: I know, I’m sorry. I just want to make sure. As long as you feel okay then everything’s alright! How was your work anyway?
Logan.S: Fairly ordinary actually. I had to go through some of my notes and rewrite a couple of pages then I had to organise a group project due the 2nd of March.
Pat-on-the-back: Sounds productive!
Logan.S: Thank you.
YourHopesandDreams: Ew. Group project. Who’s your partner?
Logan.S: We are in entirely different courses, why do you think you would know them?
YourHopesandDreams: Everyone knows the drama students know everyone.
Logan.S: I’m working with Remus.
YourHopesandDreams: You should ask to swap partners.
Logan.S: I won’t do so unless I have a genuine reason. I’ve not had any interactions with him previously and while he did seem half-hearted and obnoxious in his messages, he seems harmless. If he messes everything around then I will but I won’t make a fuss unless I have reason to.
Pat-on-the-back: That’s fair but please make sure to tell us if he pulls anything.
YourHopesandDreams: Your loss.

MESSAGES: To Nerd
Wednesday, 3:02
hey u awake
Nerd: What on earth are you doing up at 3am?
Oh
Soz
Wrong number.
MESSAGES: To Nerd
Wednesday, 3:12
Nerd: What is your favourite planet?
wha
Nerd: I figured it would be fair to ask your test to you. For all I know you could be as uncultured as your brother.
can we not talk about him
I dunno really
I wanna say pluto because they deserve it
but I kinda like saturn best.
Nerd: Any reason why?
Just kinda interesting
Big, lots a moons, ring.
It’s just a cool planet.
Nerd: Fair enough.
Do you have a reason to like jupiter?
Nerd: If I’m being honest, my science teacher absolutely adored Jupiter. I don’t know why but that memory of him ranting about how cool it was just really stuck with me. I was only about 8 years old. But I found myself agreeing with him. Back then my fascination was a lot more childish. I thought it was fascinating that since Jupiter was a gas planet it hadn’t been blown away yet. I grew up from that view but the interest never left.
ew that was almost cute.
Nerd: I concur that was very unprofessional.
WAIT
WAIT
HOLD ON
Why hasn’t Jupiter blown away!?!?!?!?!??
Nerd: Excuse me?
8YR OLD YOU IS A GENUIS
Nerd: There’s no atmosphere in space!
But there’s pressure and junk isn’t there?
Nerd: The pressure is pulling the mass into the centre which keeps the planet whole.
Do you think we could step on Jupiter?
Nerd: I don’t know.
I thought you knew space!
Nerd: I do biology! To get into a biology degree, I did a bunch of biology based subjects! Why would I know anything about space?
I dunno.
I guess if you look like a nerd people just presume.
Nerd: I’ve personally found it’s the confidence. If you act confident enough then everyone presumes you know exactly what you’re doing and you’re in control, no matter how out of place you look.
I’ll drink to that!
Wait, in what situation would you have learnt this!?!
Nerd: I have a bad habit of accidentally going to the wrong class and just going along with it rather than anything else. Although I should say I did fantastic in that architectural history class. But this habit has caused some awkward situations. I have also impersonated a store manager to explain why me and my friend were there when really he ran into the warehouse searching for a kitten.
HAH
That’s brilliant
Using your nerdy powers to overthrow society.
Does this mean you’re a liar?
Nerd: I call it ‘managing life’.
HAH
Sounds about right.
Why are you awake at this time?
Nerd: I could ask you that.

the biggest idiots on the surface of the planet go on a date
***
After Sirius had left, Remus sat down at his kitchen table and edited the pictures, waiting for Lily to get home. He could still barely process what had happened, with the unbuttoned shirts and tattoos and makeup... Safe to say, the editing was not going very quickly.
Lily finally got back at around 10, dragging an oversized canvas in with her bag of art supplies. Remus quickly slammed the laptop shut, where he had totally not been studying Sirius’ tattoos.
“Where’ve you been?”
Lily laughed. “Geez, mum. Had to stay late at school to work on this stupid project.” She shot a look at the canvas that was taller than she was. “Stopped by at James’ on the way home. His roommate was there.” She waggled her eyebrows teasingly.
Remus tried to sound casual. “Oh?”
“Yeah, sounds like the shoot went very well,” she said, walking to their small kitchen to brew a pot of tea. “Like maybe there will be a follow up meeting to, y’know, discuss how well it went.”
Remus got up from the table and swatted her arm. “Oh, shut up.”
“So what did you think of him?”
“Sirius?”
She rolled her eyes. “No, my great-uncle who you also met today. Yes, Sirius.”
He sighed. “Drop-dead gorgeous. Overwhelmingly confident. Tattoos and piercings and long hair... basically who I picture when I think of my soulmate. How could you not at least show me a picture beforehand?”
She smiled and shrugged. “Element of surprise. But you got his number, right?”
“More like he gave it to me while I was paralyzed with hot-guy syndrome. But yes.”
“And you’re going on a date with him?”
He sighed again. “Well, I don’t know... He’s way out of my league.”
Lily turned to face him. She studied his face thoughtfully for a moment, before slapping him across it.
Remus jumped about a mile. “Lily! What was that for?”
“You are seriously the biggest idiot I’ve ever met. You met your literal dream guy, he gave you his number, and you’re not going on a date with him?”
Remus thought for a moment while he rubbed his face. She was right, Sirius was his dream guy. And he had been flirting with him for the whole shoot... “Okay, fine. I’ll text him.”
She raised her eyebrows. “You better. You can’t go throw away James’ and my hard work just because you’re nervous.”
Remus couldn’t help but laugh. “Of course you and James are behind this.”
“Couples who plot together, stay together. Now go text him, before I drink all of this for myself.”
Remus poured himself a mug of tea before retiring to his room. He stared at the posters and photographs on his wall while he worked the nerve up to retrieve the slip of paper from his pocket.
remus: hey is this sirius?
sirius <3: pretty boy! you finally texted
Remus blushed at ‘pretty boy’. The words made him feel all giddy inside, like someone had taken his stomach and turned it into a butterfly sanctuary. He grinned as he typed.
remus: well, i couldn’t stay away from a drop-dead gorgeous model like you, could i?
sirius <3: my charms are pretty irresistible
remus: so i was thinking
remus: do you maybe wanna go out sometime?
remus: if not that’s totally fine
sirius <3: why wouldn’t i want to go out with someone as cute and thoughtful as u?
sirius <3: not to mention a very talented photographer
Remus felt so happy he could scream. Cute and thoughtful? This guy was definitely not the garden-variety Tinder hookup
remus: i can’t take all the credit for the pictures. i do have the privilege of working with some of the most attractive people on the face of the earth
remus: so how about i pick u up saturday at 7? it’ll be a surprise
sirius <3: i love surprises
remus: saturday it is :)
A smile so wide he felt like it would crack his face in half spread across Remus’ face. He couldn’t believe he’d just gotten a date with someone so... Sirius. “Lily!” He called, “Saturday at 7!”
He could hear the grin in her voice as she called back. “See? Told you!”
That night, he went to bed grinning like a fool. The next few days were torturous as he counted down to Saturday. When the day finally arrived, the hours crawled by like old slugs. His heart wouldn’t stop going 100 beats per second.
Remus mulled over what he should wear for what must’ve been at least 45 minutes. He finally settled on a thrifted green jumper and worn blue jeans, with his well-loved pair of brown converse. He quickly texted Sirius.
remus: btw i hope u like biking
sirius <3: i like anything as long as it’s with u ;)
He rolled his eyes but smiled like an idiot. Grabbing his red bag, he knocked softly on Lily’s door.
She opened it and nodded approvingly. “Here, let me take a picture so I can show it at your wedding.” Remus pretended to make a face at her but obliged, sticking up a peace sign. “Good luck with your dream boy!” She gave him an affectionate hand squeeze. “Not that you’ll need it.”
He laughed. “Thanks, Lil.” He squeezed her back before heading out the door and hopping on his bike. James didn’t live far, which was convenient for Lily, and he supposed, him as well. Before he knew it, he was knocking on their green door.
James opened the door and grinned his signature mischievous grin. “Oh Sirius, your prince is here to see you!”
“Bugger off!” Sirius quickly came to the door and gave James an unceremonious shove. He was dressed in black jeans and a Green Day t shirt, with a black denim jacket covered in patches, as well as yellow Docs. He snapped his fingers before Remus could open his mouth. “Damn! Hang on, I’ll be right back.” He rushed off quickly.
When he came back, he was holding sprigs of lavender tied with a green ribbon. Sirius smiled sincerely. “For you. Lily told me they were your favorite.”
Remus almost proposed to him right then and there. Before he could lose his nerve, he gave Sirius a quick peck on the cheek. “I love them. Thank you.”
The two stepped outside, Sirius dragging James’ bike. “Haven’t ridden one of these in years. My favorite mode of transportation is motorcycle.”
“Well, I hope you didn’t forget how to, because I have a spectacular night planned for us.”
First, Remus led them to his favorite secondhand bookshop. They locked their bikes outside and stepped in, reveling in the smell of old ink and paper.
Sirius took Remus’ hand. “This place is amazing.”
Remus looked over at him and couldn’t help but smile. Sirius was scanning the shelves hungrily, drinking the shop in with his eyes. “I’m glad you like it.” He squeezed his hand.
They wandered around the shelves, laughing at funny titles and pulling out the things that caught their eye. Sirius picked out an old book with photographs of couples in it for Remus “Because I’m dating a photographer!” and Remus picked out a book of plants, since he found out Sirius had been trying to start a garden. They paid for the books and left, Remus leading the way to their second destination.
They parked in front of a cheerful old Italian restaurant filled with warm light and people living. Remus instructed Sirius to wait outside. “I’ll only be a moment, promise!” He quickly walked in and came back out with three white boxes of Italian food.
Sirius raised his eyebrows inquisitively, but Remus only smiled. “Let’s go to the last place.”
They arrived at Remus’ apartment building. Sirius grinned. “Oh, that’s the direction we’re going in?” Remus swatted him but laughed.
“Get your mind out of the gutter. Come on.” Remus unlocked the door and they climbed what felt like eons worth of stairs, talking and laughing the whole way up. Just before they got up the last flight, Remus made Sirius promise to close his eyes. He took his hand and they walked up together.
“You can open them now,” Remus said softly. Sirius opened his eyes and scanned the area. They were on the roof, where they could see all of London sprawled out beneath them like jewels on velvet. Lights glimmered white and gold, illuminating the people and cars bustling about like small insects in a field. It was perfect.
“D’you like it?”
Sirius turned to face him. “I- I love it. This is incredible, Rem.”
Remus smiled at the nickname. “Here, help me set up.” He pulled the food and a blanket out of his bag, along with some matches and candles. They set the boxes down on the blanket and lit the candles. The air was cool enough for them to see the steam coming off of the fresh pasta and garlic bread.
They dug in, and Remus was happier than he could remember in a long time. Sirius was an excellent conversationalist, not to mention the biggest flirt he’d ever met. They talked and talked until the last dregs of sauce had been wiped from the boxes, the last piece of garlic bread split in half. It was colder now, and Remus shivered against the wind.
“Come here.” Sirius held his arms open and Remus sat between his legs, leaning his back against Sirius. His heart was beating so fast now, nestled against Sirius’ warm chest. He felt safe and his heart felt full. He wanted to freeze this moment and live in it forever.
Sirius pulled Remus closer, rubbing his thumb against his shoulder. “Can we live here forever?”
Remus put his arms on either side of Sirius’ hips and turned around. “Yes, please.” They looked at each other for a very full moment before Remus closed the distance between their lips and kissed him. It was like no kiss he’d ever had before, sweet and full of warmth. Sirius’ lips moved gently against his, and he felt his cool lip ring against his warm mouth.  Remus placed his hands at the nape of Sirius’ neck, pulling them chest to chest and curving his legs around his lower back. Sirius’ hands roamed the soft regions of Remus’ jumper. They pulled apart for a moment, breathless.
For once, Sirius was at a loss for words. “I- I’m... Um, I-”
Remus laughed and put their foreheads together. “Just shut up and kiss me.”

It started with a study group
Young!Remus Lupin x Ravenclaw!reader
Based of this post by @scaredofvscogirls, from my request (thank you btw!!)
Tumblr media
Third year
The house teachers had made study groups for the students. That was how the whole thing started. Study groups in the third year – houses mixed together. Next to you sat a Gryffindor boy who was writing something in a notebook. He looked very concentrated. His brows were furrowed together and he was almost sticking the very end of his tongue out, but you couldn’t see that much. Although you could see the scars across his face, which made you wonder about him and what had happened to him. You recognised him, but his name and who he was had completely slipped your mind.
‘You may now begin practicing the spell! Remember to speak clearly and do the right wand movement, otherwise it can go very wrong,’ Professor McGonagall warned about a new transfiguration spell you were to practise together.
The boy turned to face you and you smiled nervously and moved a little to the side in order not to seem like a creep, you had basically been looking at what he was writing and just realized how inappropriate it was. But he was smiling and his eyes told you that he was a calm person.
‘Sorry, I didn’t realise that I was snooping.’ You apologised. You could feel that you were blushing, but he just smirked slightly at your apology and ran a hair through his curly hair.
‘No worries,’ he said and chuckled slightly. ‘You’re Y/N, right?’ He asked curiously. You were kind of surprised that he knew your name, as the two of you had never spoken before, maybe once in your first year. But you resonated his knowing of your name with the study groups being posted in every dorm, and you had classes together anyways.
‘Yeah, I’m sorry but I don’t remember your name?’ you stated. You weren’t exactly embarrassed but somehow it felt weird that you didn’t know the name of a classmate.
‘Remus Lupin,’ he answered and quickly something clicked in your head; he was a part of that group that everyone lowkey feared. James Potter and Sirius Black were notorious for casting charms and hexes on more or less innocent students.
‘Don’t worry, I won’t hex you,’ Remus said as if he had just read your thoughts. You chuckled nervously and glanced into your book.
‘Well, should we get started?’ You asked at which Remus nodded eagerly and moved his book closer to himself. So it started.
***
Fourth year
‘You know what we need?’ you asked Remus as the two of you walked towards the library. The study groups had ended in the third year, but you and Remus had agreed to keep working together. You had a good dynamic together and you improved each other. Like two mad scientists who kept prompting mad science – just magic.
‘We need a lot of things here, but what do you have in mind?’ Remus replied sarcastically as he pushed the door to the library open. You rolled your eyes before you followed him to the very end of the library where there was an isolated table where your conversation wouldn’t be disturbing other students. The library was almost empty anyways, as most students were home on holiday with their families.
‘A debate club,’ you stated. Remus tilted his head to the right while wearing a curious expression.
‘What do you mean?’ He asked and sat down in a chair. You looked around for a moment until you found a good way of explaining it.
‘It’s a club where students meet and discuss different topics. Like politics, for example. I was thinking about it last night after our talk about werewolves in the magical society and how it’s basically racism and discrimination towards a minority-‘
‘Over half of that discussion was you explaining those terms to James, Sirius and Peter.’
‘But you get what I mean! Right? I mean, in Ravenclaw we spend loads of time discussing things but I think it’s something that loads of students from all houses and years would enjoy,’ you said. Remus looked around the library while he thought about your proposal. He looked at you with a smile and those warm eyes and nodded.
‘I think we should ask the teachers about making such a club. I think you’re right, a lot of students could gain a ton from such a club, especially in these times with politics heating up,’ Remus stated before he looked down into his book. You hugged him tightly from behind, happy that he wanted to do this with you. You didn’t know, since you couldn’t see his face, but he was smiling wider than he remembered being able to and he was blushing immensely. He loved your touch but he was also too shy to let it be known. At least for now.
***
Sixth year
Brunch was almost over and you were ready to spend the Saturday reading – you had gotten Ulysses and had prepared with snacks from Hogsmeade, which were hidden safely a place you roommates couldn’t figure out. The Ravenclaws next to you moved for Remus to sit down. They all knew him and many wondered how he had come to be sorted into Gryffindor and not Ravenclaw. Either way, he was a friend of nearly everyone and they all said hello when he decided to spend time at their table or when you let him into your common room.
‘What’s up?’ you asked him as you sipped your tea. He looked kind of nervous which in a way it suited him. His dishevelled hair and hoodie. In the weekends you didn’t have to wear uniforms, and Remus was a big supporter of hoodies, zip-up or just regular, but always with a t-shirt underneath.
‘I was wondering if, er, you wanted to study together? We’re going to sit outside and study, or, me and Lily are. James, Sirius and Peter are probably going to do anything but study hehe,’ he asked while running his hand through his hair. You smiled and took his hand. You knew that he calmed down by the touch of you, although he didn’t say it, or didn’t know. It was just something you had noticed over the years. It was, after all, your sixth year and you had been friends since the third. That damned study group.
‘Sure. I don’t have any homework though, so I’ll just be reading. I can bring some snacks?’ You suggested and he smiled and nodded.
‘Sure, sounds good. We’re going to go out after brunch, I just need to get something from the dorm, wanna come with?’ he asked, once again nervously. You squeezed his hand and smiled.
‘Of course.’
You followed him through the picture of the fat lady while surrounded by the rest of the Marauders. You knew all of them, it came with being a friend of Remus’s. Lily and you often talked about the stupid things they got up to sometimes. But you couldn’t help but admire how the boys used the magic they learned, and how much magic they taught themselves because the classes were too easy or went too slow for them.
Remus led you up the stairs. He opened the wooden door with his shoulder first.
‘I’m sorry about the mess, you know who I live with…’ he trailed off as he pushed the door open. Before you was a red and golden round room. It was incredibly cosy. There hung posters of motorcycles, quidditch flags and banners, books everywhere, and magical objects, all of which you couldn’t even name.
‘It’s awesome!’ you exclaimed with a big smile. You hurried over to a window and looked out. The view was fantastic – part of the lake was visible as well as the quidditch stadium. You turned around to face Remus. He was leaning against a bedpost with his backpack halfway over his shoulder. He was smiling and his eyes shone with admiration at which you couldn’t help but smile yourself. You flopped your book onto a random bed and walked over to him and hugged him. He was a little surprised at first but quickly settled into the feeling and hugged you back, tightly.
***
Seventh year
‘Can you believe that it’s our last year?’ Lily asked into the air, the question not directed at anyone. James kissed her temple and she blushed slightly. She still hadn’t gotten used to the attention and affection given to her by James.
‘It’s unbelievable,’ Peter said while chewing on a chocolate frog. They were gathered in the common room on an early spring evening.
‘Do you know what you’re doing after school?’ Sirius Peter asked when he had swallowed the chocolate.
‘I think we should go travelling together, the six of us,’ Sirius said smiling. They had been talking about a trip for many years, but never actually started planning anything. James and Lily looked at each other as if they bore some deep secret.
‘What’s up with the two of you?’ Sirius asked when he noticed the look they shared. Lily started giggling and James sighed happily.
‘We’re thinking about getting married when school ends,’ he stated with a big smile. Lily looked lovingly at him when she had stopped giggling. Peter and Sirius looked absolutely stunned at the news and quickly hugged both of them, wishing them congratulations and asking them why so fast.
‘We just think that it’s the right time. With Voldemort on the rise we want to be able to celebrate it while we still can…’ Lily said and trailed off.
‘Wait, sorry Lils, but where is Remus?’ Peter interrupted. They all looked around the sparsely filled common room. Sirius smiled and nodded towards a couch. You and Remus were sitting, his arm around your shoulder and you leaning into him. You were both reading a book each and didn’t notice anything.
‘They’re so cute, are they dating?’ Lily asked.
‘Yes, but they don’t know it yet,’ James said making them all laugh and Lily roll her eyes with a smile.
----
‘They’re talking about us,’ you whispered behind you book to Remus. He grinned at your observation and looked at you.
‘I have a question,’ he started. You looked at him and closed your book with a finger on the page you had reached. You were afraid he was going to ask you something uncomfortable, but you reasoned that he couldn’t with that smile on his face.
‘Yea?’ you said, urging him to continue. He breathed in as if he was very nervous – which he probably was. And then he took your free hand in his and started.
‘Are we dating?’ it took you a moment to swallow the question, and when you had you couldn’t help but laugh lightly at the question, making him giggle along with you although he didn’t understand why you were laughing.
‘I thought you were going to ask me something much, much worse!’ you exclaimed happily. He giggled nervously and you calmed down.
‘I mean, if you want to, then yes,’ you answered him. And he smiled. He smiled so wide. It made you smile incredibly wide too. He leaned down and kissed your forehead at which you slightly blushed.
‘Of course I want to,’ he whispered.
You could hear Lily and Sirius cheering somewhere behind you, but in that moment neither you or Remus cared.

Eatjean: I have no idea why it stopped working. I got this watch last week
Y0urnam3: i think you should just give it some TIME
y0urnam3: get it??????
Y0urnam3: cuz it’s a WATCH!!!
Seokjin slapped a hand over his mouth, but failed to stifle the broken laugh behind his hand. He ultimately released a squeaky laugh that almost had him in tears.
“SEOKJIN. I swear to--”
“Okay! Okay! I’ll log off, Yoongi. Relax.”
Besides studying for hours on end at his desk, Seokjin also spent hours playing an online game called Maplestory. He played for years and even if he was juggling his job, social life, and college, he always made time to play. Seokjin made a lot of friends all around the world through Maplestory and even a handful of his friends in college played.
“Dude, you’ve been playing since 8:30. I have to solidify this lesson plan and I cant concentrate with you laughing and slapping your desk every ten seconds.” Yoongi, Seokjin’s roommate, took his glasses off and rubbed his eyes.
“Sorry, but y/n has been busy with school and we haven’t played together for a while.” Seokjin explained.
Out of all the friends Seokjin made online, you were exceptionally precious to him for many reasons. One, you carried metal straws with you everywhere. Two, you both were majoring in the medical field. Lastly, to be frank, he liked you.
Seokjin met you online through the Monster Carnival Party Quest around four months ago. Being in the last room of the party quest meant having a larger party with characters that had buffs and skills that could be beneficial to the entire team. Seokjin’s party was in need of a healer and happened to choose you, a cleric, to join the party.
For five rounds, Seokjin’s party dominated the party quest and when everyone came to the mutual decision to call it quits, everyone sent each other a buddy request and it all started off from there.
For the next few days, Seokjin found himself logging on around the same time you were online and the two of you spent time farming for mesos, helping each other out with quests, or doing rooms three and four in CPQ because the rooms only required a two-person party. This allowed you two to chat for hours, getting to know each other little by little. Of course, you both took precautions because it was the online world, anyone could be behind their screens and pretend to be someone they weren’t.
After almost a month of chatting as much as possible, you eventually began to trust Seokjin with more personal details of your life. You opened up by venting to him about how your ex-best friend decided to hook up with your newly broken up with ex-boyfriend. Seokjin easily related with you with the same story however, his story happened in high school and he found out himself because he found one of his ex-girlfriend’s blouses in his ex-best friend’s room. Seokjin understood your pain and became an emotional sounding board for you.
Even if Seokjin was your listening ear, the only other information that was shared was each other’s names and major. Honestly, Seokjin was curious about what you looked like, what your voice sounded like, but those things were privileged information that couldn’t be shared that easily. Looking each other up online probably wouldn’t be much help either because there could be a lot of people who had the same names and there would be no way to figure out for sure who was really you and vise versa.
No matter how curious he was, Seokjin respected your privacy and didn’t want to ruin the friendship he had with you.
“You make like you haven’t spoken to her in years.” Yoongi quipped as he typed away at his laptop.
“Just do your lesson plan, Mr. Teacher’s Assistant.” Seokjin laughed and launched a paper ball towards Yoongi’s direction. “I’m packing it in anyways. Y/n has an early class tomorrow.”
↠↞
There were multiple places you could’ve been and your 8 am class was definitely not your first choice.
Your professor for medical terminology had an optional 8 am course which you stupidly decided to attend. It wasn’t because you were failing, your future wouldn’t allow for that. Focusing and studying hasn’t been in your mind for a few days and you needed a refresher.
“Y/n, tell me, why am I even here right now?” Irene dropped her folder on top of the desk next to you and groaned. “I swear my bed was caressing me and begging me to stay.”
You yawned and tapped her desk. “Trust me. I also almost pressed snooze on my alarm but you promised you’d go with me and a promise is a promise.”
“Yeah, yeah, and you promised you were going to treat me to breakfast after this soooo…”
Fifteen minutes felt like four days. Your professor stood at the front of the class rambling on, clicking through his slides while everyone stared back at him with hollow eyes.
You glanced over at Irene who had half-lidded eyes and lazily swung her pen in between her fingers. She was probably daydreaming about the french toast and hot coffee from the diner across campus.
You found yourself doodling in the corner of your notebook with rough sketches of orange mushrooms, slimes, and a family of snails. The corner of your paper was starting to look like a miniature version of Henesys hunting grounds.
Forty-five minutes dragged on by and your professor finally let the class go. You and Irene both had a 10 am class which was why you promised her breakfast; to pass time and to have girl time.
“Are you sure I can order the french toast and waffles? We’re both broke ass college students, you know.” Irene handed her menu to the waitress and smiled.
“Yeah, yeah. It’s fine. We haven’t hung out in a while, so it’s okay.” You assured her.
“That’s because you’re always playing Maplestory.”
Irene wasn’t wrong.
You didn’t mean to spend the majority of your free time cooped up at your desk with your eyes glued to the colorful images on your laptop screen. Some days your logged on to bust ass and level up, but other days you actually waited to see if Seokjin was going to log on as well.
“So, anything new with that Seokjin guy?” Irene sipped her coffee. “Did you ask for each other’s social media yet?”
The answer will always be no.
“I told you, Irene. There’s something about the ‘not-knowing’. Plus, it’s a mutual agreement between us.” You explained for the thousandth time.
“Yeah, but what if he’s a creepy dude trying to hit on you!”
Of course you thought of that, which was also a hidden reason as to you why you didn’t expose too much personal information about yourself. Seokjin only knew your first name, your major in college, and you were sure to change the names of any personal stories that your shared with him.
You made sure to be careful. Always.
“Seokjin has been catfished before on Maplestory and he said it was so embarrassing and painful that he never wishes anything like that one anyone.” This was a story that Seokjin hesitated to tell because of how embarrassing it was, but he knew he had to tell you because he didn’t want you to get the wrong idea about him. This was his way of showing you that he trusted you.
“Well, alright y/n. You’re a smart girl, don’t forget that.”
Classes seemed to fly by after breakfast and after a draining study group, you were eager to have some quality time with yourself.
When you fully logged into your Maplestory account, Seokjin was quick to greet you in the text box.
Eatjean: Y/n!!!!
Eatjean: How was class?
You smiled stupidly at your laptop screen.
Y0urnam3: seokjinnnnnn! classes were just as annoying as yesterday
Yournam3: my energy is at 5% right now
Eatjean: I think it’s bedtime for you
A pout formed.
Y0urnam3: nooooo i waited all day to talk to you
Your feelings for Seokjin wasn’t exactly subtle. You weren’t shy to type out things like “I love talking with you” and “I missed you, sorry I couldn’t play yesterday”. It took a lot of courage for you to do so, but you were sure the courage came from not knowing Seokjin face-to-face. If you were to see him in person after saying all of those things, there was no doubt you would shrivel up into an embarrassed raisin.
Seokjin took a little longer to reply than usual. Instead of seeing his screen name, a spam of a character selling a level 200 weapon for warriors filled the chat box instead. Maybe this was a sign that you needed to stop being so forward with him.
/
“Awww, okay then stay uwu.”
Seokjin scrambled around a blocked his screen with his hands. He whipped his head to the side and found Yoongi peering over his shoulder.
“Y-Yoongi, when did you get back?” Seokjin stammered.
“Just now. Aren’t you going to press enter?” Yoongi stepped away from Seokjin’s breathing space and took a seat on his own bed. “And what the hell is an uwu?”
“It’s a way to express, uh, extreme ador--no, just google it!” He learned the phrase from you a few weeks ago and at first, he was just as confused as Yoongi was.
Seokjin took another quick glance at Yoongi who was struggling to kick his converse off his feet and hit the “enter” key on his laptop.
Within minutes, you replied.
Y0urnam3: OMG YOURE USING UWU ALJDFLKDJ
Eatjean: MY FIRST AND ONLY TIME
Y0urnam3: UWUWUWUWUWUWUWUWUWU
Y0urnam3: btw can you help me farm for some mesos? I still can’t believe i got scammed yesterday
Seokjin didn’t do anything to hide the smile on his face. Why was the word “uwu” so amusing to him? It was probably because it made you seem a lot cuter than what he originally thought.
In the next hour, Seokjin met up with you help you gain back the mesos you lost. After everything, the two of you circled back to Henesys and stood at a random spot in an empty channel.
Eatjean: Brb ya boi needs a snack lol
He stood up from his chair and retreated to a small table in the room that he and Yoongi dubbed as the snack corner.
“Still playing?” Yoongi asked from behind his laptop screen.
“Yeah. We’re waiting for a few friends so we can LPQ.” Seokjin ripped open a bag of sweet corn balls, sending a few flying to the floor. Just as he bent down to pick up the pieces, he caught Yoongi’s eyes staring at him. “What?”
“I have literally no idea what you just said, but go off I guess.” Yoongi went back to typing away on his laptop. “Oh yeah, before I forget, you’re coming this weekend right?”
Seokjin took a quick second to think about what plans he possibly had this weekend, but nothing came to mind.
“What’s happening this weekend?”
“Dude, Jimin’s party? Penthouse in the city?”
It finally clicked in his brain that Jimin’s uncle lent Jimin his penthouse for the weekend as an early birthday present. Seokjin was invited last week along with Yoongi and they were given strict instructions by Jimin to clear their schedule for Saturday night.
Was it selfish for Seokjin to want to stay back at his dorm and talk to you all night? There was no doubt that Yoongi would agree to go because he has been complaining the entire week about “needing a fucking drink because fuck this lesson plan”. With Yoongi gone for that evening, that meant Seokjin could laugh to his heart’s content all by himself.
“I--” Seokjin dragged on. “I don’t know. I might just stay here and relax.”
“Relax my ass.” Yoongi said in a joking tone. “Seokjin, you’re going. It’s just one night out. Y/n is not going to disappear all of a sudden.”
Of course Yoongi was right. It was just one night off campus and having a drink with his friends was a plan that was long overdue. But Seokjin liked you too much, so it was normal to want to talk to you as much as possible.
Seokjin sighed quietly. An unnecessary battle between the two choices flooded his mind. Going to the party was obviously the answer that settled at the tip of his tongue.
But y/n… ugh but Jimin...
“Fine, okay. I’ll go, I’ll go.” Seokjin lifted his hands in the air in defeat.
There was no point in telling you about the party because just as Yoongi mentioned, you weren’t going to disappear into thin air. Plus, Seokjin wasn’t your boyfriend. He had no business in telling you every single thing that he was going to be doing.
Eatjean: Okay, back
Eatjean: Sorry my roommate was just telling me about his day
Seokjin waited a few minutes before receiving your reply.
Y0urnam3: ohhhhh this is the teacher’s assistant right?
Y0urnam3: how was his day?
Y0urnam3: and how was yours too!! i forgot to ask lol
He smiled and danced his fingers along his keyboard.
Eatjean: That’s the one! And he’s in desperate need for a drink
Eatjean: My day was alright. We’re already preparing for midterms so that’s a bummer
After hitting “enter”, Seokjin pressed the F4 button on his keyboard making his character have a crying facial expression.
Talking to you was always easy. He never felt the need to force a conversation with you because you both shared the same interests and had an understanding school schedule. If there was a chance where he could meet you in person, he was so sure that it would also be just as easy.
For the next two hours, Seokjin aided you in farming for mesos until the party was full to complete a few rounds of the party quest. Even if his eyes may have gotten dry and his back was tight, he enjoyed the time he spent with you.
Y0urnam3: okay seokjin it is LATE and ya girl needs to sleep
Seokjin frowned.
Eatjean: Already T__T
Y0urnam3: i know in sory
Y0urnam3: im sorry****
Y0urnam3: ive been keeping all school related stuff on the back burner and i need to get accepted into the nursing program i told u about
“Ah..right.” Seokjin muttered to himself.
Eatjean: OH OF COURSE OF COURSE
Eatjean: Pls focus on school too!! Trying to become a cardiologist isnt a walk in the park either so i understand
Eatjean: Study hard and get some rest y/n
After receiving your reply filled with words of encouragement for Seokjin to also study hard, he finally shut off his laptop and flopped onto his bed. Since school was a huge priority for you, this probably meant you were going to spend more time hitting the books and using your computer for actual research purposes.
“If only we had each other’s instagram handles or something.” Seokjin groaned and waited for a response from Yoongi.
The room stayed silent and when he turned around, Yoongi was sitting in his chair with his head tilted backwards and had a red pen tucked behind his ear. His desk was cluttered with debris of papers and his laptop was wide open with what seemed to be an answer key.
Seokjin stared at his sleeping friend for a while. “Yeah. He needs a fucking drink.”
↠↞
“Okay, bitches. Clear your schedules. We are going to get crazy tomorrow..” A mutual friend of you and Irene, Seulgi, dropped her binder and textbook on top of the table where you and Irene were studying.
“Crazy?” Irene questioned. “Really?”
Seulgi dropped herself into the seat next to you and sighed. “No, I’m kidding. I just wanted to invite you guys to my dorm tomorrow to have a study session and a few glasses of wine.”
“Ugh. I’m in. I have been crazed this whole week and I need the alcohol.” You shut your textbook and rubbed your temples.
“Are you sure? You’re not going to isolate yourself and play Maplestory—and I mean that in the nicest way possible.” Irene reached over and clasped your hands with hers.
You laughed knowing there may have been notes of bitterness in her words. “Yes honey, I’m sure. Both Seokjin and I have mountains of work that we’ve been putting off so I don’t know when’s the next time we’re going to be online together.”
Seulgi raised her eyebrows and leaned closer to your shoulder. “And how is it going with Mr. Eatjean? Are you two going to get married in Amoria yet?”
You snorted and gently pushed Seulgi’s head away from your breathing space. To your surprise, Irene laughed along understanding what Seulgi was talking about; she never played the game but you talked about it so much with her that she caught on some of the terminology that was used.
Unfortunately, what you said was the truth. You haven’t been able to play Maplestory in a while and you really missed talking to Seokjin. It wasn’t easy being in the medical field, but you had to give your future career some of your attention at some point.
When Seulgi invited you two over for a study session, you imagined having a few glasses of wine while listening to jazz and getting a lot of work done. However, none of that happened.
Just when the three of you were settled in Seulgi’s room, almost ready to pull out the wine cork, Seulgi receives a very delightful phone call from a friend. Next thing you knew, you were carefully applying lip gloss in the backseat of an uber and Irene was racking her brain over whether or not she wanted to unbutton the first three buttons of her top.
“Ugh, just do it already! Jihyo is going to be there tonight that’s why!” Seulgi gently tugged on Irene’s hand who was holding onto yours. “And y/n, stop pulling the skirt down. That skirt was meant to be that short.”
“I know, but oh my God, the exposure!” You tugged at the end of the black pencil skirt Seulgi let you borrow.
“Sooyoung, should’ve let us know ahead of time about these plans.” Irene complained.
“At least this is way better than studying—hey, Sooyoung!” Seulgi called out.
Sooyoung met the three of you at the elevator and hastily rushed you all down the long hallway that was filled with gorgeous college students. You all entered a doorway that was also filled with students who were either already wasted or making their way towards that level. Some of the students were familiar to you and others were definite strangers; Sooyoung seemed to know most of them.
“Girl, where is your brother anyway? We have to at least greet him happy birthday first.” Irene tippy toed to get a good look of the people in the kitchen.
“He’s in here somewhere. Let’s just find him later.” Sooyoung began pouring vodka into shot cups while you poured sprite into four other cups.
“You know, I keep forgetting you have a brother.” You spoke over the mixed sounds of music and voices of people. “Why don’t you two just go to the same university?”
“Well, you know how it is. Siblings, different majors, scholarships, blah blah blah.” Sooyoung brushed passed the subject and handed out the shots and chasers. “Come on, you girls need to catch up, especially Irene because Jihyo looks hot as fuck tonight—to Jihyo!”
Sooyoung raised her shot cup and while you and Seulgi complied with the cheer, Irene begged you all to tune it down. Although she did mutter, to Jihyo, before gulping down her vodka.
You, Seulgi, and Sooyoung were huddled in one part of the living room to keep an eye on Irene who seemed to be a bit more confident in talking to her crush; all thanks to some liquid courage.
The entire floor was covered with people making it almost impossible to not bump into anyone.
“Oh! Sorry!” You yelled over music. “This place is so boujee! If I ever lived here, I would never leave.”
Seulgi laughed and nudged your shoulder. “Penthouse or not, you never leave your dorm anyway!”
“Ooh! Is it because of that game you’re playing? How is that dude-guy anyway?” Sooyoung slurred.
You scrunch your nose and helped your drunk friend sit down on a nearby chair. “How much did you drink before we arrive?”
Sooyoung gently tugged on your pencil skirt. “Answer me question. When are you and denim jeans getting married in Amoria?”
Seulgi threw a fit of laughter as she explained to Sooyoung that she said the exact same thing.
“We are not getting married in Amoria. We’re not even in a relationship.” You squished Sooyoung’s cheeks with one hand and took a sip from your mixed drink.
“But why not? It seems like you and sack-jeans are into each other. I say, date!” Sooyoung waved her red cup in the air and you and Seulgi did your best to calm her down. A drunk Sooyoung was something else.
“Honey, you need to relax. It’s only eight in the evening and for your information, his name is Seokjin and we’re just Maplestory buddies right now. We don’t even know what each other looks like.” You stroked Sooyoung’s hair and took another sip of your drink.
“Y/n, just listen to the poor girl and date him!” Seulgi let out a high pitch snicker and gave Sooyoung a high five.
Talking about Seokjin was definitely bringing your mood down. Maybe it was the alcohol messing with your emotions for than usual, but you really missed talking with him.
“Y-Y/n?”
You felt a tap on your shoulder and you spun around, making eye contact with one of the cutest guys you ever laid your eyes on. He wore a red t-shirt that hugged his broad shoulders and had jet black hair that was styled upward. If his eyes didn't catch your attention, his lips sure did. The only thing wrong with him was that he knew your name and you didn’t recognize him at all.
“Um and you are?” You questioned, readying yourself to perform some sort of self-defense.
“It’s me.” He gestured to himself. “Seokjin.”
↠↞
Seokjin weaved himself around the kitchen, trying to find a bottle of Grey Goose to refill his drink.
“Damnit, Jimin. How many people do you know?!” Seokjin grunted. “Oh, Joy! Pass me the bottle when you’re done.”
The already-drunk-sister of his friend gave him a thumbs up before filling up the last shot cup and slid the bottle down the counter. Seokjin tried to thank her, but her focus was immediately back to her friends.
“Dude, where’d you go?!” Yoongi bumped into Seokjin, almost making him spill his drink.
“Okay, I know you need this wild ass night, but please relax. This is my favorite shirt. It accents my shoulders.” Seokjin grabbed his friend’s cup to give him a refill.
“Hurry. Namjoon is freestyling in the living room and it’s fucking fire.” Yoongi nudged Seokjin’s arm to make him lead the way into the living room.
Seokjin was more than supportive of his friend’s desire to drink his stress away, but having to deal with Yoongi’s drunk ass plus a few more of his friends was making him wish he was back at his dorm, double clicking the Maplestory icon. But he had to admit, Namjoon was spitting bars.
“Oh! Sorry!”
Seokjin turned around to find one of his friends stumbling over, almost knocking down a group of girls.
“Good grief, Sandeul. Sit here, please.” Seokjin gently forced his friend to sit down on the couch in front of him.
Just a few more hours, Seokjin. Just hold out for a few more hours, then you can drag Yoongi back to the dorm.
“-getting married in Amoria?”
Seokjin chuckled. I guess there are other Maplestory players here.
He didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but he was trying to catch wind of the conversation behind him. However, the music and crowd was too loud to hear most of the conversation.
“-and for your information, his name is Seokjin and we’re just Maplestory buddies for now.”
“Y/n, just listen—”
Huh, Seokjin. That’s my name too- WAIT.
Taking the heavy risk of appearing as a creeper, Seokjin turned around and tapped the girl behind him.
Here goes.
“Y-Y/n?”
When she turned around, Seokjin was blessed to see the cutest girl he has ever seen.
“Um and you are?”
Seokjin braced himself and pointed to his chest. “It’s me. Seokjin.”
You widen your eyes and Seokjin could tell you weren’t as convinced.
“U-uh, it’s really me. Eatjean? I just helped you farm for more mesos because you were scammed the day before.” Seokjin’s heart was thundering in his chest. The alcohol could’ve also played a role in that, but it was also because he was extremely nervous that the girl right before his eyes was actually a different person.
“Oh my God. Oh my God.” You repeated. “Oh my God, you’re really Seokjin!”
The nervousness was slowly exiting his body once he saw the smile that grew on your face. Thank heavens, it was really you.
“Y-Yeah. It’s me! Wow, I just—I’m—w-wow.” Those words were the only ones that Seokjin could muster.
You let out a snicker and tucked a few strands of hair behind your ear. “I can’t believe—”
“Seokjin?! This is denim jeans?! Date her!” Sooyoung suddenly gripped your shoulders.
“Excuse her. Sooyoung get your shit together for a second please—” Seulgi tugged at Sooyoung to leave you two alone. “Continue!”
Seokjin chuckled and looked over his shoulder to check on his friends who were still invested in freestyling. He then took you by the hand to stand in one part of the living room that had a little less people.
“You’re friends with Jimin’s sister?” Seokjin questioned.
“Yeah! We go to the same university. Why the hell hasn’t she mentioned you to me before?” You sighed sadly.
“I’m actually closer to Jimin.” He explained. “I even forget that her real name is Sooyoung. Jimin only refers to her as ‘Joy.’”
You took a sip out of your drink and nodded your head. “What a small ass world.”
Seokjin stuffed his hand in his pocket and leaned in closer to you. “You wanna get out of here?”
↠↞
“I told you to not use the scroll! It only had a fifty percent success rate.” You shook Seokjin by the shoulders who was devastated by the choice he made.
At first, you were feeling hints of regret after quickly accepting Seokjin’s invitation because you didn’t know what his intentions were. But he was just as quick to assure you that he wanted to bring you to his dorm to have some pizza and help him with his character’s accessories.
Seokjin was the perfect gentleman, just as you imagined. He gave you some of his clothes to change into so you were comfortable, he even stepped out of his dorm so you could have privacy. He let you sit in his gaming chair while he took a random stool from inside the dorm. When the pizza arrived, he remembered how much you loved pizza crust so he gave you every single one from each slice he took.
If you knew this was the type of guy Seokjin was, you would’ve gave him your instagram a long time ago.
“Hey, cut me some slack. I took a huge risk here.” Seokjin spun you around in his chair. “And I remember a certain someone who spent almost nine hundred thousand mesos on a staff she ended up not needing.”
“Fine, fine. Touche.” You scoffed and jokingly threatened to leave his dorm.
You scanned Seokjin’s desk and saw nothing but textbooks, what seemed to be study guides, and a few empty coffee cups. Being under the same university major umbrella, you understood the mess all too well.
“How’s your studying going?” You asked, tidying up some of his papers.
“Ehhh. I put the dying in studying.” Seokjin joked and you playfully hit his shoulder. “I’ve been up all night for the past few days.”
“Awww, you poor baby.” You ran your fingers through his hair and his eyelids fluttered closed at your touch. “Well, I guess it’s sort of no different from when you’re playing Maplestory with me.”
“Hmmm, I beg to differ. I actually enjoy spending time with you online.” Seokjin sighed happily. “And maybe I can enjoy spending time with you in person this time around?”
You laughed and brought your hands to your face to hide the blush he caused. “Ohhhhh, very smooth, Seokjin.”
“Do you accept this quest?”
You studied Seokjin’s facial features on more time; his big eyes and pouty lips. After knowing each other through an online game, it was only right for you to finally get to know the real Seokjin.
From what you already knew, he was a sweet man who enjoyed trying new food, doing word search puzzles, and taking every opportunity presented to him to make some sort of pun. He could be a bit cheesy and a bit dorky, but it was all endearing. And because of all the time you’ve spent reading his cheesy lines through your laptop screen, the next words that came out of your mouth was just as cheesy and dorky, but it fit the moment.
“Quest accepted.”

“What thought processes led you to the second floor of Abbot Hall in fall 1965?” he asked.
August 9, 2021
I recently had an e-mail conversation with my first college roommate, m'boy Eric, of Las Vegas, originally from dynamic Caro, Michigan. He concluded his communication with the question above. I soon banged out the answer (below). I intentionally heavied it up with details to give him some context and cause a few laughs. Then I decided to post my answer (edited for this space) because other friends and family may find it interesting and mildly amusing. So here goes:
Why MSU? That's a very good question.
The neighborhood where I grew up had dozens and dozens of young kids running up and down the streets on both sides of Tireman, the "busy street" where I lived. Some of the kids were two, three, four years older than me. Most of the "big kids" played sports and I soon found that I could hang with them. This exposed me to their humor, early rock 'n' roll, the Tigers, the Lions and "competition." All the while my ears were wide open.
As perhaps a third-grader, I got the impression from the older kids that Michigan State was considered "cooler" than Michigan. It seemed as though the Spartans beat Michigan in football almost every year. Which was basically true in those days. About a year later, in 1957, I was inside of Voltz's Drug Store (a small, cozy place on the corner of Warren and Reuter) where I often purchased pop, Popsicles, balsa wood airplanes, comic books and more. A radio was playing in the background there and I remember hearing a sports report about a speedy MSU halfback, Walt Kowalczyk, having a big game against some team. So I began to further equate Michigan State with "cool," because they had a great runner who was Polish.
The Michigan State basketball team made it to the Final Four, playing eventual champion North Carolina, that same year. (I was vaguely aware of Wilt Chamberlain, whose Kansas team played the San Francisco Dons in the other semi-final.) I was in Wyandotte that weekend with my folks (visiting friends of the family, including their son "Stash" Kornacki--gotta love those Polish names) while the MSU vs North Carolina game was on TV. The Spartans lost in overtime. All I knew was that the more I got into sports--watching it, playing it--the more the Spartans seemed like a power. I started envisioning myself attending school there. (I just assumed I'd be going to college.)
I was in the sixth grade during the 1958-59 school year. We had a wonderful, strong-on-fundamentals, progressively-minded basketball coach. (We ran laps in winter boots, used medicine balls in passing drills, wore plastic "half-glasses" that enabled you to see ahead but not see the ball when you dribbled, etc.) In those days, the metropolitan Detroit CYO was the second largest in the country (after Chicago's) with about 200 Catholic grade schools. Anyway, after winning our league championship, we advanced in a tournament of league champions to the metropolitan Detroit finals, where we lost to perennial grade school basketball power Grosse Pointe St. Paul, 22-17, at Pulaski Recreation Center in Hamtramck. (I got into a fist fight with a St. Paul kid during the first half but did not get kicked out of the game.) Now I was beginning to have delusions that I was going to be a college basketball player. As a 12-year-old who devoured basketball magazines, my top three college choices were Purdue, Bradley and Michigan State.
Two years later during eighth grade, our CYO basketball team won its league again. We got into the big metro city tournament, but lost in the westside final to Royal Oak Shrine. I don't remember the score, but we got slaughtered. The kids from Shrine were huge. They seemed like grown men. I think one kid on that team went on to play football at Michigan (his name escapes me); another guy, Jim Seymour, went on to play football at Notre Dame. Yes, that Jim Seymour of MSU-ND 10-10 tie fame. After going up against those guys, I began to doubt that I was going to be playing college basketball.
In the spring of that year, our "lay teacher," Mr. Brimo, brought in a college student, Bill Fundaro, who had graduated from St. Al's and was the quarterback of its football team when he was a senior. (BTW, you probably saw Bill sitting on a solitary chair at the backstop behind home plate at Tiger Stadium thousands of times on TV, because during most of his 50-plus years as an usher there, he retrieved foul balls off the screen and ran new balls out to the umpire). Bill talked about college life in general and Marquette University in particular, because that's where he went to school.
Meanwhile, Michigan State continued to be successful against Michigan in football. And I was picking up that coach Duffy Daugherty was as funny as a standup comedian. Just as many young kids thought U-M was the cool school during the '70s and '80s, after Bo Schembechler resurrected its football program, I thought Michigan State was that kind of place during the '50s and '60s.
I was either a sophomore or junior in high school when our basketball coach took us to East Lansing to see the state finals at Jenison Fieldhouse. The whole team, as well as friends Joe McCracken and Gary Pearson (who did not play basketball), stayed in rooms on campus at the Kellogg Center. On the first afternoon, Pearson walked through the Kellogg Center's kitchen and came back to our room with a cart stacked with trays of cream pies. But I took a walk across campus and visited what I think was known as the Big Ten Drug Store at the corner of Grand River and either Abbot Road or M.A.C. Hoo boy (a phrase I picked up from Free Press sports columnist George Puscas), that experience, walking across campus—with its old buildings, tall leafy trees and beautiful coeds--was everything I envisioned a college campus to be. I was pretty much hooked.
Early senior year, when it was time to start sending applications to college, I was at the home of my friend Garry Faja. His brother Art, a St. Al's guy who went to Wayne State, was there. So was Art's friend, Gene Balawajder, another St. Al's guy, who ran track and cross country for MSU. We started talking about “college” and Gene asked me what I planned to study. I said journalism. Gene loved Michigan State, but he said that U-M might be a better place for something like that. So the following week I went to the high school counselor's office and picked up copies of both the MSU and U-M course catalogs. I read about journalism in the MSU guide, which was clear, concise, well written. I read about J-school in the U-M guide, but I found it to be not so well organized, not particularly well written. That was it. U-M was off my list.
I had it in my head that I should apply to three schools--sort of like getting three bids on a remodeling job. If Michigan State didn't accept me, maybe I could go to one of the other schools. So in addition to MSU, my sentimental favorite, I applied to Marquette University because Bill Fundaro had made it sound so good, as well as the University of Detroit, the local school. (I applied there and not Wayne State because U-D had far superior basketball teams and produced players like All-American Dave DeBusschere.)
Well, I got accepted to all three. However, both Marquette and U-D, private schools, wanted more money to take the enrollment process a step farther. To hell with that, I thought. So I rejoiced about being accepted by MSU with my girlfriend at the time, Leslie Klein (salutatorian of our class), who had also been accepted to MSU.
The next thing I knew, in September of 1965, my Mom and Dad were delivering me to the front door of Abbot Hall in our family's 1963 Pontiac Bonneville. They left me at room 271, never to return to campus again. When I initially got there, I think you were at Wonders Hall visiting your girlfriend, Cindy. I don't recall when you came back to the room, I don't recall initially meeting you. But I do remember the moment I met our other roommate, "Bop" Roller. I asked him what his major was. I thought he said, "…egg major." So I asked again, "What did you say?" Once again I thought I heard “egg major." I said, "Okay," thinking how interesting it was that one could major in eggs...when in fact he was saying, "ag major..." Who knew he meant agriculture?
So that is the how and why of my decision to enroll at Michigan State. And I stand by my story.

condensed post
main points:
- woke up at 7:30am. went downstairs around 8am when hotel breakfast opened and got some food. around 9am, we went out looking for our private driver (mr adul) and found him outside
- he took us on a tour around phuket island for the day. we first went to karon viewpoint, walked around and took some pics. then prom thep, another viewpoint. then went to big buddha, then wat chalong temple. then we stopped by somewhere on the east side of the island at a local place our driver knew. we ate some food there. i got some rice with crab meat and pad thai, pretty solid meal. it was mostly very relaxing and enjoyable to eat outside next to the beach. the waves gently crashed against the beach which was nice
it was cool seeing the island and stuff but since i did it in 2016, i think the fun part was catching up with dimitri. we talked about what we’ve been up to the past few months. dimitri’s experience leading up to a thing with a girl, roommate issues. i talked about my health concerns i had the past two months like just kind of checking up on how my body is doing. we also discussed why we’re so immature in teenage years but then in your 20s you start growing up and wanting to learn more about the world. i think we came to the conclusion that it was because we dated our respective gfs. cause when you get to meet and know someone that closely and intimately, it really starts to open up your perspective to different viewpoints. and when that happens you start to realize that there’s so much to learn in the world. or maybe something like that? just in general, the key to being more mature is just meeting more and more people. i think that’s something you don’t really get exposed to in high school. but we were just speculating. i know definitely my gf had a significant impact on who i was as a person, she helped me grow and improve so much. we also talked about a book dimitri’s reading, expecting adam. overall, just very good and interesting conversations
- after lunch we stopped by old phuket town and walked around. dimitri got a coconut ice cream thing and tried to haggle for a blue t-shirt. but the owner didn’t want to haggle. but when we went around the corner there was another shop dedicated to blue t-shirts so he got one there
- we drove over to an activity area, and ended up choosing ATV. we rode ATVs for 30 minutes around a jungle area which was pretty fun. i got covered in dirt though but definitely an enjoyable experience :)
- stopped by a local grocery store on the way back, dimitri got some thai flavored coffee and we drove back home
- got back to the hotel around 4pm and paid the driver. he was really nice, providing water throughout the day. also asked the hotel staff for help to plan out the next day for the island tours. they helped us schedule one :D
played a round of smash to see who would take a shower first. i won (huehue) so i took a shower first, then dimitri. we were grimy and sweaty from the tour all day
then we went to the hot pot place across the street from doo dee 2 we saw last night. we ordered a broth, then a bunch of veggies. but then when the pot came, it was a beef soup (despite us saying dimitri was vegetarian). he was fine with it but then when i looked at the broth, it looked like there were fish heads (like small dry fish pieces). since he’s allergic i was like wait.... this ain’t good. so we tried to ask them to switch the broth and they moved to a half and half hot pot. one with the beef broth for me and then one for hot water for him. but they tried to flavor it for him and added in seasoning and more dried fish heads. LOL. at this point we were like omg... but we don’t want him to have allergic reactions so we asked them again to replace it and then finally they just gave him hot broth with some basic seasoning and no fish heads. LOOOOL so funny. all of this conversation happened in chinese btw. cause the owner was from china, so it was supposed to be chinese style hot pot. while we ate we talked about allergies and why it seems like people in western countries have it but in the east they don’t. and then also hinge and how dating life is going on dating apps. there was sooo much food :o we ate like a ton. probably got there around 6:30pm, and after the whole broth debacle, probably ate until 8pm? we paid the bill and tipped some for the hassle caused in the beginning
- tried to find dessert and stumbled on a night market. found a guy who was making roti!! each got roti banana + nutella. sooooo good. just like from singapore
- walked back and played some smash. i tried to do a bunch of stretches to fix my back. also watched an episode on the gender pay gap since we talked about it in the van. and also had a good conversation about practice/hard work vs raw talent before we went to bed around like 11pm

[Note: Puffles please read this dreadfully long post in parts or like on a long bus ride or something IDK]
Dear Puffles,
So it’s been a long time I have last Tumblr-ed and I regret (strong word aiya) that kind of because I feel so much has transpired and I haven’t had the time to internalise a lot of it yet. That’s been one of the running themes for the past month or so actually: I’ve observed that while I have settled into York, I’m not/I wasn’t sure if I felt rooted yet because I never took the time to sit down and think quietly about all the things that have happened since moving and how I feel about it? And that’s also why I didn’t Tumblr because of the lack of reflection. Anyway, I really appreciate your patience, understanding and faith.
I quite like the Tumblr idea as a form of diary journaling anyway. You know how I feel about diaries though and my fear of committing thoughts to words - but I have surprisingly been comfortable with doing it here. So this might be a long post (I hope that’s okay and I hope you don’t get bored - read it in parts I guess). Speaking of which, I definitely hope you are reading this after your last Final (yay!) ◡̈  Cheering you on for Molec Gen :)
I think I’ll start with CU first. So we had our CU Weekend Away a few weeks ago (11-12th Oct). We went to a campsite at a place called Redmire. Even though I’ve only been at university for 7 weeks by then, I was like sign me up for this camping thing now omg plz and I definitely don’t regret going for it despite having an essay due in the same week after it ended. So if you take a look at the photos, you’ll be able to see we stayed in cabins that reminded me of the ones in Percy Jackson. So it wasn’t really camping per se - more like glamping lol. But hey at that weather, where it was 5 bloody degrees in the day (and colder still in the morning and night), I am most glad we had a warm cabin to go back to after activities. The weekend was effectively a retreat: we had a guy (a young minister) come down and talk to us about a passage in the Bible throughout the weekend (so it was like continuous bible study) in between other fun activities like hiking up a hill (it felt like a mountain lol) and games. We were also fed a lot of food which I appreciated immensely. Some CU alumni came back and joined us for the weekend, during which they were in charge of cooking food for 50+ people. I also became closer with CU seniors and peers, which was very nice. At this stage, I don’t think my CU friendships are 10/10 strong (like I don’t talk to them everyday or often outside CU) but I’m hoping that God will cause them to be blessed and grow. They’re extraordinarily nice people and I’m so glad that I joined CU this semester, even though it’s my one and only formal commitment. It’s twice a week: Tuesday for a small college groups and Thursday for everyone to come together as a university. And then on Sunday we still have Church throughout the day effectively. In any case, I’m very grateful for my friendships and fellowship in CU - I know He has great plans for me there, and my heart is filled with a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings when I think about it.
So moving on - onto food ;) So I’m not sure how I have survived one whole semester without acquiring a pot or pan. And I lost my only plate half way into the term. And I lost my only set of cutlery 2-3 weeks ago lol. So the last few weeks have been rather interesting in this regard (amongst others). So what’s been happening is that firstly, I don’t eat three meals a day (does anyone really?) and I buy lunch on Campus West (where lessons and cafes are). Dinner has been interesting insofar as I’ve had a lot of friends suddenly offer me food. It’s the most wonderful (and timely) blessing ever. I believe I’ve had almost 10 properly cooked and free dinners now. Some are from CU people who cooked too much and brought food to Faith for her to eat lol. Some of the food came from Stan’s flatmates - which has been an interesting experience (???). IDK so Stan has a few computer science friends (T.T) and they’re all pretty intense and nerdy it’s really amusing. Two of them are from Hong Kong so it has been fun bonding with them over the shared Asian experience and knowledge. They’re both called Julian too haha. Anyway I’m kind of more or less friends with the Julian who does all the cooking - he really likes cooking and takes it super seriously (like spends 3 hours on average just cooking dinner - who has time for that in university??). He’s really intense in that he’s really talkative and insists on being the host etc etc. So Stan and I usually just idly stand in the kitchen and watch him cook. It’s even gotten to the point where we chill in his room and Julian comes up with the food to us? IDK that’s why it feels super weird because at first, Julian offered food to me because he overcooked and had too big of a portion but subsequently, it has become a Thing and there is a FB chat and now he goes out and buys ingredients knowing that he’s cooking for 3-4 people, instead of just for himself and his roommate (the other Julian). Yeah anyway that’s why I’ve been feeling pretty weird over it because there’s this guy (who has a girlfriend btw) who has just been cooking a lot for Stan and I (like proper dishes e.g. salmon and fried rice one day, Thai green curry another day, French onion soup + various meat, Vietnamese Pho etc etc) and he does it all by himself and we don’t pay anything??? I have TRIED but the Asian culture in him insists that he plays host but now it’s becoming so regular gah. Anyway at the end of the day, I have really appreciated all the food and the conversations (I guess??) and I think it probably won’t continue into the Spring Semester (Semester 2) so that’s okay. On a separate note, I’ve also had my Italian friend Stefano come over to my flat and cook pasta for Clemmie, Stan, myself and him too! So that was really nice hahaha.
A rough and quick overview of my friendships (very few in nature): From my course, I’m hanging out with Stan and Clemmie pretty much everyday. Stefano hangs out with us too, but he sometimes goes to the library to study while we just eat (lol) and he doesn’t stay on campus too so he heads back after classes end, while the three of us chill and have drinks regularly at the end of every week (well I don’t drink but I watch the other two lol). We also have a friend called James who is very nice but we haven’t really gotten very close to him unfortunately. I try but he’s a pretty private guy. And he also went back home two weeks before university ended because he’s been ill :/ But I hope the friendship will grow somehow! I think you would like him - and all of them for that matter. So that’s generally a clique of sorts - although I’m definitely not as close to James and Stefano as I am with Clemmie and Stan. From my flat, I am closer to three other girls: Christianna (the Greek girl), Ellen and Katie. I’ll be living with the three of them next year. I feel a bit conflicted about it from time to time: they’re nice people but I sway on how close I feel with them hahaha. In any case, what I do appreciate the most about them is that they’re not from my course and I don’t see them everyday as I do with Clemmie and Stan: so it’s always nice to hang out with different people hahaha. Christianna and I are pretty close in the flat, we chill in each other’s rooms often and she’s a nice girl ◡̈  My third and last group of friends comes from CU - and there’s a range of people there. In terms of seniors, I’m closest to two of my leaders (they’re in Year 2): Cat and Sarah. From my batch, Jill and I attend CU together often and I bond a lot with some of the guys. The friend I have been taking walks with (well it’s just been 2 lol but they’re insanely long and I try not to cry - like 2-3 hours long eh) is called David and he’s from CU. So yep ◡̈  I don’t have many friends tbh - definitely not as diverse and rooted as the ones back in Singapore, but I suppose it’s only been 10 weeks and I imagine a lot of things will change come Semester 2 and 3.
Academically, things have been going alright. It’s one of the few things that I’m honestly quite okay with. Nothing has overwhelmed me to the point of tears and I think you have been undergoing more stress with Finals at NUS. The month of deadlines for me where I had essays due at the end of every week was pretty hellish (like staying in the library/some study space till 3am every night before hauling myself back to the flat) but I think it helped knowing that it would be over at some point and each week, I had to focus on the next essay (or two) that was due the following week. Lectures have been interesting, I like my modules. Seminars are decent for some modules: it depends on the Seminar Tutor. But across the board, my seminar tutors have said I’m doing decently (well the standard isn’t very high to begin with :< people are so noobs sometimes honestly) and my results from the formative essays that I’ve submitted are pretty okay. I am definitely not at the 10/10 stage and I haven’t studied since the last essay was due 3 weeks ago so I suppose that wasn’t the wisest choice haha but I’ll try my best in December. I have four graded essays due in the first week of January and they account for 40% of my grade for each module (the other 60% being a PPA in May etc). So I Better Not Screw Up. I’m determined to attain the highest band possible I HOPE - I just need to guai guai go to the library often, read a lotttttt and write hopefully an outstanding essay haish. I’m in pain just thinking about it tbh.
(Wow I’ve just noticed the word count for this post so far - I’m typing it out in Pages while in the air haish 1850 words so far; IDK if you’re dying of boredom, if so I am a sorry bean.)
So moving onto Spain…hahahaha. Spain was only 3-4 days. I only told my parents on the night I was leaving (well done Faith). I kept on procrastinating on calling them and telling them about it (I couldn’t gauge if they would be okay with it). In any case, they were super chill with it and were just like lol okay bye. I don’t really understand my parents sometimes - I suspect you don’t either - but I guess that’s Parenthood in general that we are both bemused by. Travelling-wise, we took a train from York train station to Manchester Airport, where we had a flight from there to Barcelona. We stayed in a really lovely Airbnb. We only rented a room (super budget trip) so Clemmie and I slept on the masterbed while Stan had a single bed beside us. It was a very enjoyable and memorable trip overall - definitely the culmination of spending almost everyday together for the past 9 weeks and capping it off by spending 3-4 days in each other’s constance presence overseas. Ded. But it worked out so that’s good. On the first day, we arrived in Spain in the morning around 9am iirc and we went straight out after dropping our things at the flat. Barcelona is an incredibly beautiful city - please take a look at the photos. The architecture is very classically European, the streets are broad and wide with fancy shops at the side and the number of cafes and bistros is beautiful. The bakeries, too, are absolutely to die for and I almost did. I was trying to keep the budget as low as possible so I didn’t buy anything except food to eat and sustain myself. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before but Stan grew up in Spain (he spent a solid 7-8 years there during late primary and secondary school I think - right up till A Levels) so he is fluent in Spanish and was effectively responsible for navigating us around the city and translating everything for Clemmie and I. My friends are insanely bilingual btw - it’s not fair. Clemmie is fluent in German, and is learning other European languages. Stan speaks Spanish, and is learning French. Like wtf Faith you only speak English and you fail at that sometimes. (Interesting detour - while at York/Barcelona. Faith conducted some conversations in Chinese - it’s the strangest experience ever! Honing Chinese in an overseas country.) Anyway, on the second day, we took a bus to the peak of the city where we spent 2-3 hours just chilling and admiring the view. It was honestly such a relaxing experience, I enjoyed it a great deal. It’s also where my new FB DP is from: Clemmie took the picture and I liked it. On the third day, we went to a beach and we walked around the town etc. We were travelling back to York in the same night so the day was long. I think Spain, in all, was a meaningful experience: I enjoyed learning about another country’s culture, it was a very timely break from York and I think the three of us are closer because of it.
So one thing that occured because of Spain is that Stan and I bonded over certain sentimental and nostalgic feelings over living in two countries and identifying with different cultures and identities. I mean, on some level, I think I have dealt with it better (in terms of the emotional stage that I’m at now) because I’ve thought about Ireland, China and Singapore a lot and it’s become part of my identity etc etc. Moving to York has definitely made things hard and I need time to dwell on that later too. But I have internalised things I think and reflected on things. Stan, on the other hand, can apparently go for months without thinking of Spain so going to Spain brought up some memories haiya. Boys and their inability to connect with their emotions properly and healthily. Not that we are great at it either but we try. Idk. Do we even? Maybe not lol.
Haiya. To be completely honest, I feel stupidly conflicted about that one. At the most fundamental level of my heart, I am happy I have a friend who I can hang out with and spend a lot of time with comfortably. It’s just because it’s a Boy that causes the heart confusion. I mean - it’s a good thing we both don’t swing the other way as surely then we would have been confused at some point with this friendship too right?? lol. But yep because it’s a boy and also a non-Christian boy so I just feel so incredibly stupid for spending so much time with him and effectively putting myself in this position. The line between Platonic and Not Platonic is so fine, I really want to be careful here. Like honestly Puffles on some level I deserve some award for not crossing it by this point it’s ridiculous. We have meals together everyday, hang out pretty much everyday unless we decide not to, weekends are with him, the past 3 weeks has seen us chilling in bed together watching TV shows and Youtube or whatever. The number of times I have gone to his room or him to mine and then at 4am physically force myself to leave and walk back to my room out of sheer self-discipline is insane. Like I deserve some award for not allowing myself to fall asleep in the same bed at 4am often right :( He has offered so many times and each time I say no because I want to be a Guai kid and I know sleeping in the same bed will SURELY make things harder and the line finer. But haiya it’s ridiculous. I think it also surprised me how sad it was to say bye to each other before I left for Singapore?? Like he came over to my place and we just talked in bed and stuffs :< Hence the sentimental crap and rant I sent to you at some 2am hour after he left. I don’t know Argh I’m determined to keep things Platonic but I think it’s just at a stage where it’s really hard to ascertain this. And I also know that part of my heart is also like hurhur maybe things don’t have to be platonic but the other 80% of me knows it won’t end well and it’s not the right decision so huzzah Faith must remain steadfast. Besides, I think December will most definitely help - you are right in this and I will believe in that.
But I feel so stupid nonetheless for being in a position where feelings are vulnerable. :( It’s damn stupid, I tell you. I think the crucial issue here is that things have happened and things have been said that make it very hard for the friendship to be intrinsically and wholly platonic, you know? It can still be and it still is, most definitely. But I hope December affirms that I guess?? I DON’T KNOW ARGH ok no, I do - I do :(
What even is the point to life haish
I am such a pathetic bean and ball of emotions right now I think. Need to think straight again.
He said that coming to know me has been the single most worthwhile thing he did this term :( is that good friendship or what
Aiya fuck it forget it December will help and next year things will be platonic and good and chill again. It’s just sentimental crap right now.
Okay moving on.
ONTO OUR FRIENDSHIP.
I know you’ve been super stressed with Finals the past 3 weeks but you are almost done friend - very very almost done and by the time you read this, you WILL be done so that is the best news ever. I am also excited to be spending almost everyday with you this December. You have been desperately missed and cherished - my friends here know of my best friend back in Singapore whom I call at random hours and walk away from them to talk to her. I do know for a fact that if you were in York, things would be 10 times more fun and heartwarming, less worrying and stressful and we would be hanging out everyday. Sometimes when I’m walking from one place to another, I’m thinking of you and how fun it would be if you were right there next to me. You remain to be my best friend and my closest friend. I am glad these 3 months have come to an end so that we can chill and catch up in each other’s presence. I will definitely update Tumblr more often in January and so on. And I hope we can properly video call more often. All that aside though, my sentiments and words haven’t changed despite the distance. You are Puffles and I am Quaffles, and I thank God that we are in each other’s lives to cheer each other on right next to each other, even if we’re physically apart.
Family and Jarred-Related things have been tough, no doubt. I sometimes want to kill him, hindered only by the fact that I am physically not there and the law would not perhaps not be on my side. I can’t believe it’s already December 2017 - it’s been one strange and long year? Remember Raffles Medical lol? And Clinton Street and Alfred and all the random things we have embarked on this year. (hahaha the colouring book - we must.) And you moved away from home the first time this year: your own space and everything. And I moved abroad. Sighs.
I hope we’ll have time this December to reflect on things. I think we really really need to. Dude, I’m so ready to just lock myself in a room and watch Modern Family and cry and think about life. Yes???
Faith is in a desperate need for catharsis right now. I think that’s what I need.
Okay well, this has been an extremely long post. I hope it makes up for the lack of a post in the month of November. Again, I’m really sorry it has taken a long time for me to reflect and post. I’m sorry too if this has been incredibly boring/difficult to read. I hope you read it in parts.
I miss you friend and I’m really looking forward to meeting you soon. Let’s sort out our plans for December yeah?
I love you Puffles <3 And see you soon (finally!) <3
With all my heart,
Quaffles

Swiper No Swipin’!
As I mentioned in my last post, I have used tinder and bumble to try to advance my chances of meeting someone. I have had five experiences with meeting people from these apps. Half went well, the other are a complete shit show. First, I’d just like to give a fun fact about tinder. I realized why it was called tinder when I was camping. I asked someone to gather tinder to start our fire, and then it dawned on me that it’s called tinder because the app starts fires in relationships. It was like I was hit with all the knowledge in the world after I figured this out. Anyways, I will tell you about my experiences starting with the best and progressing to end with the worst. The first time I met up with someone from tinder was last year, right at the beginning of the first semester of college, and my friend and I were walking back to our dorms from campus. We really wanted to get a picture of us because we wanted to document the beginning of our college life. So, he snapped us a picture, which was very cute btw, I had a VERY short conversation with him, and then we went on with our lives. Never met up with him again, never heard from him again. The next two tinder meetups were at coffee shops. They went pretty well. We had good conversations. One of them was moving to Colorado at the end of the summer and the other didn’t believe that tinder could work so I really didn’t know why I was there. Both times we texted a couple times after the date but it eventually fizzled off and I have not met up with either of them since. Now for the more interesting stories. So, the only time I’ve met someone from bumble is when I met up with this guy, let’s call him Carl. I planned to meet Carl after I worked. I was feeling adventurous and I said I’d meet him at his apartment. I texted him after my shift ended and I Ubered over there. When I got there, he said he still had to “shampoo” his hair. So, I waited. And waited. And waited. And 30 minutes later he said he was on his way down. First thing I notice, he has a very high-pitched voice. I think to myself that it doesn’t matter, he could be a very nice boy. Nice is not the word I would use to describe him. We get up to his apartment and he starts doing chores. Like loading the dishwasher and cleaning the fridge. He purchased vodka as well so I finally suggested we take a shot. He gave me a shot glass that had actual breasts on it. Like glass tits protruding from the small cup. He poured us the shots, but kept procrastinating on actually taking the shot. But I wasn’t complaining because you know, vodka isn’t something I drink leisurely. He started quizzing me on the type of vodka and asking where it was made and stuff. It was a little odd but I played along. It was made in San Francisco, which I guessed correctly by the way. All up to this point I was keeping my mind open, no big red flags. Then he asked if San Francisco was on the east or west coast. This was when I started to question things. I simply replied the west coast. Then he asked why it was called the west and east coast. And at first, I thought he was kidding. He wasn’t. Then I explained the concept of direction. We finally took the shot and he chased it with milk. That’s right, milk. I didn’t ask. Then he asked me “is this scar noticeable?”. I would’ve said they weren’t but as soon as he pointed them out, I zeroed in on them and couldn’t un-see them. He then continues to tell me the story of how he got thrown through a window because of a bar fight, has a concussion, and needs to go to the police to ID the guy who threw him through that window. I was SHOOK. Then Carl started showing me around, and naturally I knew the last stop would be his room. Me being completely right, and this being the first time I ever met a boy at his apartment, I was not about to just jump into bed with this guy. I suggested we watch Netflix so we could talk about SOMETHING. He got under the covers. I did not. We sat there watching the movie for an hour and I left. I blocked him and tried to forget the whole night. Yes, that was a bad experience. But it does not even compare to the story I am about to share with you. As mentioned before, I don’t usually go to guys places on a whim. BUT, I was feeling especially horny one night as I was swiping through tinder. I matched with a guy, let’s call him Craig, whose bio read this: “Newly single and ready to meet new people and see where things go! I’m primarily on here to talk and meet. If you’re just looking for a pen pal I’ll have to say I won’t be that lucky individual. But if you’re down to actually meet up then def hit me up! I feel like every guy wants that one girl who can be their best friend. You know the one that everyone thinks are into each other but really their bond is deeper than a physical attraction.” I should have thought it was too good to be true but I went for it anyways. I messaged him saying that I thought his bio was refreshing. He asked me to come over. Again, I don’t go to guys houses to hookup because of my lack of experience. But I disclosed everything up front and he still seemed into it so I thought “WHY NOT?!”. All my friends said go for it so I fucking went for it. I hopped in an Uber at 10:30 pm, wearing my pajamas, feeling excited for what could come. The Uber dropped me off at the corner he said he’d pick me up at. I stood there for a little bit, texting all of my friends, trying not to look nervous, when he texts me. He says his friend is going to come down and get me. So, I wait and a man walks up to me. He says, “Hi I’m Craig’s friend”.   I introduce myself and we made small talk. He asked me if this was a tinder hookup, and I shyly said yes. Then he asked if Craig had told me about his fantasies. I was confused and my face showed it. His friend started to elaborate. Apparently, Craig wanted me, a small, innocent girl, to be hooking up with another guy, so he would interrupt us, “save” me and then I would proceed to hook up with him. I was SHOOK AF. I was like “ummmmmmm, I’m not comfortable with that”. I thought I was just going to hook up with a nice guy and it could lead to maybe something more. That’s what his bio implied! But no, I’m stuck with a crazy guy. Then his friend, whose name is Mike, fucking asks me to if I want to hook up with just him if I’m not comfortable with this whole thing! I was like “wait, if I don’t go along with his fantasies, he doesn’t even want to meet me?” Good ole’ Mike said nope and proceeded to try and get me to hook up with HIM. He asked me if I needed the most attractive person to hook up with and why he wasn’t good enough and all these questions I was not ready to answer. On the verge of tears, I finally said I was going to call an Uber and go home. Mike went back inside and I stood there on a dark, unfamiliar corner waiting for my Uber. When my ride arrived, I hopped in the car and cried quietly, thinking about what the hell just happened. And finally, I came to the conclusion that I was just catfished! I was fucking CATFISHED! There was no Craig. There was only Mike. Mike made the whole thing up. And he thought “if I can get a girl to come all the way here, go along with some crazy fantasies, then she will fuck me and there won’t need to be a Craig. And if she doesn’t want to do the fantasies she’ll probably settle for me! I’m a genius!” I came home and burst into tears as I explained what happened to my roommates. This catfishing happened maybe two weeks ago but it feels like a dream. I haven’t really trusted guys the same way if I’m being honest. It all just seems surreal. But I’m over it. I tried something I wouldn’t normally do, and this time it didn’t work out. But I’m stronger in some ways because of it. I felt like a fool, but it wasn’t my fault. So basically, if there is a message anywhere in this blog, it’s to JUST SWIPE LEFT!
