I’m more into Khaenri’ah/Abyss lore, than anything else tho, if i’mma be honest lol.

I’m absolutely interested in lore and stories and general though to be honest I think my attention span and sleep deprivation doesn’t allow me to make up anything to big from scratch

But I’d love to bounce of others if it weren’t for my social anxiety so please I’d be absolutely interested in anything with this

I’m really late to answering this shit to where people have already posted the cutscenes of Caribert onto yt, which I watched because impulse control is a myth and I’m quest locked so-

If you haven’t seen it yet then by all means ignore the rest of my rambling;

So Kaeya is specifically the descendant of the founder of the Abyss Order, Chlothar Alberich. Kae outwardly says he has no idea of the origin, with how openly he handles his last name, but he also says it ties up some questions he’s had.

Of course, quote Diluc, “you can only trust half of what he says at best,” so of course taking that with a grain of salt:

At ‘worst’ that means Kae always fuckin knew/This is just the final confirmation about it, and he knows a lot more about the Abyss Order. (Also funfact: one of his first, base lines, like the ones you have access to w/ friendship lvl 1, have something asking “Is the Abyss Order bothering you?” Not to mention there’s an anecdote on “You’re scars of the dark? That’s… interesting.” Oh, and that first archon quest in the domains and stuff; Where Kaeya recognizes hilichurl aren’t this smart and looks like he’s about to talk with a Abyss Mage before adult barges in. And the. “Let’s just say I was blessed with certain… linguistic powers.” Shit, foreshadowing goes deep.)

At best: He had just a bit of knowledge about it, and confirmation opens a lot up for him.

I do doubt he’d actually turn to the Abyss Order, cause Hoyo making him essentially a villain/major (enough) antag would be… uh, unlikely to say the least. I can see some spying on the Abyss Order and double crossing them though, that fits with Kae.

And at the same time, Caribert is apparently Chlothar’s son, right? He’s obviously affected by the curse, being the hilichurl. And so if we’re going with the “Kaeya is from straight up alive Khaenri’ah, not just the ruins” that either means through shenanigans Caribert turned into Kae or Kae has a sibling.

However, Kaeya is called a descendant of Chlothar, so that’s a separation of time; But then that also brings up the question of how Kaeya knows of Khaenri’ah? His Story says things/describes Khaenri’ah in things in general that paints it as if he actually lived there.

Did he live in ruins? Then I doubt he’d have as much knowledge about Khaenri’ah as he could very well likely have (and not tell us, obviously, the little liar [affectionate]). Not to mention the paper he stole when his father showed him about “what being an Alberich” is about and stuff; embers blah blah; that doesn’t sound like ruins…? Ugh. He has a stupid amount of 4-pointed stars on his design too; There is no way he doesn’t know at least a good amount about Khaenri’ah.

Following the Caribert -> Kaeya thing;

Chlothar did fuck around with the Abyss sibling (I play Aether so I’m gonna say Lumine) to try and find a way to help Caribert with the curse and stuff. Hell, after we dig up the bodies when Dain wakes us up, Dain questions if Chlothar found a way to stop the curse or something. So perhaps Chlothar did “cure” (to some level, otherwise they wouldn’t need to do the Loom of Fate shit) of some sorts that returned Caribert?

And then due to Abyssal time shenanigans (it’s already proven to fuck with time, look at Ajax/Childe) memories got fucked and Chlothar decided it’d be best to leave Kaeya in Mond, whether as a spy or for a better life? Kaeya does still have that eyes patch, after all. And it’s not implausible that there was a name change for ambiguity.

But at the same time, a ‘cure’ for the curse would be questionable - why hasn’t it been mass produced/practiced by now then? - not to mention I don’t think Kaeya would only get away from all that with just an eyepatch covering his face. And again, Kaeya was described as a “descendant” of Chlothar, and it’s referred to as an “ancestor/ancestry” specifically, so for the time thing it’s unlikely.

Not to mention, Chlothar also has a bigger star, closer to Dain than Kaeya’s. As Kae put it “pure-blood Khaenri’ahn”.

So yeah, Kaeya is probably just more of a descendant, if his appearance contradicting the description of a Khaenri’ahn has to say anything (“Light hair, fair skin, star-pupil” Kae is one of the 3 playable characters that has a darker skin tone, he has dark blue hair, and his star pupil is small than compared to Dain or Halfdan. …Though Chlothar has black hair. Huh).

But bring up the fact that he describes Khaenri’ah like he’s lived there and the. That brings up and entire other question/argument. Then what was Kaeya’s father, Chlothar or not, doing? Was he part of the Abyss Order? Or was it just something purely Khaenri’ahn? How is he not affected by the curse; was it the fact that he’s only part Khaenri’ahn?

So much questions so little information. This is the reason I love and hate lore aaaaaaa-

Caribert & Kae are siblings? - Again the “descendant” and “ancestry” thing, and he is suspiciously absent if they are siblings. (Huh, the abyss/Khaenri’ah is having the small theme of siblings/siblings in arms. Aether & Lumine; Dain & Halfdan as brothers in arms; hell, in the more abyss based - Childe, you know with Teucer and shit, and then Kaeya, with Caribert or Diluc.

Of course I’m in love with the head cannon that Kae is from when Khaenri’ah was actually alive lmao :,)

And that’s only Kaeya, granted he is my favorite.

Now, the travelers. (Again, Aether as traveler, Lumi as Abyssal sibling)

Right. So we see Lumine’s memories of her time traveling with Dain, in which she meets Chlothar Alberich, who she sorta-helps with his son, Caribert. Then, once she wakes up, Chlothar goes on for a bit about the abyss being the answer to the curse or something, etc.

Assumedly, this would be where Chlothar founded the Abyss Order? At least, this is the main inviting event that leads to the Abyss Order.

I think, if I’ve read this correctly, Lumine is still traveling with Dain, so it’s not like she actively helps and joins with Chlothar. If what we say as the traveler in Lumine’s memories actually did happen, she probably joins the Abyss later; Alberich, maybe partly the fact that she’s princess of Khaenri’ah and was also incredibly helpful to the creation of the abyss order, gives her the title of Princess in the Abyss Order.

Did something happen during the travel that caused her to join the Order? Or was it just the fact of mulling it over for fuck knows how long and then splitting with Dain that got her to join?

Also, if the Alberich clan took over after the fall of King Irmin, then how do Lumine and Aether go into this? Are the the kids of King Irmin? We’re they too young to rule or something; then how was Lumine old enough to see the fall of Khaenri’ah? By then wouldn’t there be enough time for at least one for the sibling to rule? Then how come there’s no mention of it?

Hell there’s even the question of just how Aether could share memories with Lumine. Technically, nothing happened there that would indicate that there’s be like.. something to fuck around with for memories. By all means it’s just a place. Did another event happen here? Was the curse from Caribert just that strong/not as specific? Am I just looking a bit too into this part because let’s be honest they probably just need to drop this lore somehow?

Also, when Chlothar is talking to Caribert on the ledge, he says something along the lines of “remember this is a new place”

Essentially: This is new from what we know, it weird. (Come back here, please)

That either means something was fucky with Sumeru making it fantastical or they just left Khaenri’ah, which is more likely.

Then how long has Dain & Lumine been travling? The ruins of Khaenri’ah are said to be underground around Sumeru, curtesy of Kaeya*.

(*Wait, for the small story Kaeya tells, he say he want to go to Sumeru to learn more of his origins - again, grain of salt for the pathological liar - but that overall implies that he’s never been to the ruins of Khaenri’ah. Of course he could just be lying and as a child he just want to go home, even if said home we’re ruins, but still.)

How recent was the destruction of Khaenri’ah, then? Cause Dain & Lumine are both treating it as if it’s been long - Chlothar says something like “your alias” which implies that Lumine has been using the name “Traveler” during her travels with Dain long enough for it to just become.. well, her deficit alias.

And if Lumine was the Princess of Khaenri’ah, why would she give Chlothar an alias? He clearly has big fuckin stars for his pupils; If the destruction of Khaenri’ah was that recent, why would she be so guarded? Was Alberich suspicious during the reign of Khaenri’ah? But the Alberich clan took over in Irmin’s stead, meaning they were trustworthy and powerful enough to keep an entire kingdom together.

Just how long as is then since Khaenri’ah’s destruction, then? If it’s been long enough to where being weary of another Khaenri’ah is just “expected”, then there’s no reason for Chlothar to remind Caribert about our go Khaenri’ah.

If it hasn’t been to long, then why has Lumine not revealed herself, relieved at the survival and… not-hilichurl-indication of her people? And why do Dain & Lumine treat/talk about their travel, even just in Sumeru, as if it had went on for an long time?

*Spoilers for genshin (Caribert quest)*

A/N: Just a small little writing/fic idea

A/N: So that quest huh. So the traveler's sibling is also the prince/princess of Khaneri'ah as well... And Kaeya is an Alberich and related to Clothar in some way. Now I don't think Clothar was necessarily related to the king of Khaneri'ah, and I do think Kaeya is probably descended from Clothar's legitimate family; however, wouldn't it be so fucking funny if Kaeya is like the great great grandson of the king. And the traveler's sibling is the "adopted" child of said King. What I'm saying is that Kaeya is the traveler's whatever amount of greats nephew. Traveler is Lumine in this because I play as Lumine.

Frankly, after processing the whole seeing her brother's memories, Lumine was just confused. If her brother was some type of pseudo adopted son of Khaneri'ah's royal family, does that make them their daughter? Just what was her brother up to while she was asleep the first time? And Kaeya is also tied into this mess? He didn't seem too surprised to be related to the Abyss Order's founder, and since he's still in Sumeru... It wouldn't hurt to ask him more, given how Dain once again left right as they need more answers.

Paimon opted out of coming along, reasonable enough, poor thing was scared by those skeletons... So Lumine was by herself, running around bars in Port Ormos. That damn alcoholic has got to be here somewhere. She refused to believe Jean sent Kaeya to Sumeru to day drink as work.

Lumine found herself entering a fourth bar, the sun was already starting to set. And thankfully she saw Kaeya sitting at a table in the back, there were a couple of empty glasses already. And that was very concerning, hopefully he hasn't been drinking all day...

Lumine plopped herslef in the seat across from him, Kaeya gave her a smirk before waving down a server. And as much as she wanted some drinks, she unfortunately should be sober for this conversation. She settled with getting food for both of them.

"So, Traveler, what brings you here? Did you miss me that much already?" Kaeya's tone was just a bit off. Both of them knew why she was there.

Lumine took a deep breath, "Kaeya, what do you know about the Alberich's?" Kaeya looked thoughtful for a minute. "What I told you the other day was most if what I knew...I had my suspicions regarding the Abyss Order, yet it was still concerning to learn they were correct." Lumine had to hold back a sigh.

This entire situation was just so frustrating. Lumine was so close to just finding out what her brother went through, yet no one had answers. And the only one who does, left with barely a goodbye.

"I'm sorry for having this conversation with you Kaeya, its just. I feel that I am so close to finding the answers I needed, and yet it seems I just keep mssing them. That there is one piece I am missing..."

Kaeya nodded at that. "Truthfully, this is a conversation I would prefer not to have. But if it is any help, I can tell you how I came to the conclusion about my family?"

"I- Thank you Kaeya, thank you so much."

"During Dvalin's terror over Mondstadt, I started doing more research on the Abyss Order, which mainly consisted on tracking down mages and such. And a name kept popping up. I already knew they had a prince, but it was his name that I recognized from my past," Kaeya paused when the server brought their food.

After ther sever left, Kaeya began again, "They kept calling their prince, Prince Alberich or Prince Aether, both are names I recognized." Lumine gripped the table at the mention of her brother's name, Kaeya eyed her movement. Did Kaeya know her brother? "One obviously being my last name, and the other is from the few memories I had left of my father...and the little I learned about the rest of my family."

Kaeya shifted a bit in his seat, his facial expression soured, "You see, my father mentioned how I was to continue on as the last hope for the family, the same as his uncle Aether had done. And well, it was easy to connect the dots after hearing that name from the abyss mages." Both of them were quiet after that.

Lumine was shocked, her brother? His uncle? "You're uncle, well great uncle, Aether?"

"I'm assuming you also found out the name of the current leader of the Abyss?" Kaeya asked. He looked a bit unsure of himself.

"What? No, that's my-" realization, dawned upon Lumine. She never told anyone the name of her brother, she was doing that to protect their identities, and after their brief meeting, she never bothered to fix that. "I never told you guys this, Aether is the name of my brother. And a couple of months ago I met him again and found out he was the leader of the Abyss Order."

"You found your brother?" Kaeya asked at the same time Lumine said "my brother is your uncle?"

Well, this was awkward to say the least. Kaeya chuckled at that, "it appears we might by related the, dear traveler, or should I call you Great Auntie?" Lumine glared at him. "Please no, please don't. Unless you want me to call you great nephew."

Kaeya abruptly laughed at that. "Really, nephew? Nephew is not as mean as you think it is Auntie," Lumine scowled him, before an idea popped in her head. Kaeya leaned back a bit when hee hand suddenly reached for his face. She pinched his cheek and started cooing, "Oh, look at my little nephew! You're so big now, do you remember me, I used to babysit you all the time. You were such a cutie pie as a kid!" Kaeya quickly smacked her hand away.

Some of the nearby tables looked at the small commotion they were making. And as if called upon by the nickname gods, Paimon decided to pop back into existence right then. "Paimon heard nicknames! What is Calvary Captain Alcoholic up to now!?" Both Lumine and Kaeya shooshed her.

Kaeya gestured towards Lumine. "Paimon, it is wonderful for you to join us, I'd like you to meet my Great Auntie Lumine," Paimon started look really confused. "Lumine is not your aunt? Hmm, Paimon doesn't think she is at least?" Paimon looked towards Lumine for answers. Lumine had already bowed her head in acceptance of this new title.

"It is true Paimon, Kaeya is my brothers great nephew, making him my great nephew as well..." Then Lumine grabbed a forkful of food, lifting the fork towards Kaeya's mouth. "Here, he needs to eat his food before it gets cold." Kaeya looked towards Paimon for help.

Paimon just looked more confused, "You two are so weird. Congratulations on being related Paimon guesses, I'm leaving now," and then Paimon grabbed Lumine's plate of food before disappearing again.

"Rude"

A/N: When you when you, when, when you are so traumatized, that you find being related to each other the funniest shit ever. Yes they bond more. Lumine feels she now has the duty to take care of Kaeya (he should not be day drinking, or drinking that much in general), and Kaeya now feels he had to take care of the old bat (seriously its not good to do all those commissions with her back). Also Paimon thinks they are idiots, but they are their idiots.

when the official ads & promotional art were finally released 🥺🥺 when i tell u he immediately went live talking abt the game and u HKGJHFDK

he didn’t care that he streamed at an ungodly hour bc he’s been waiting for the reveal for so long he needs to let everyone know </3

he retweeted everything from their official twt straightaway, made a yt video based off his spontaneous stream promoting the game + pinged his entire server abt it

and he has no regrets abt it <33

the day the game was available for download, he stREAMED THE ENTIRE DOWNLOAD PROCESS

while he and his chat were waiting, they decided to watch the trailers and character showcases to get a feel for the game, and played some mario kart to pass the time !!

as soon as the game loaded, he threw mario kart behind him and went on 🐥

he typed his name (ajax) for the when he chose aether and literally everyone was appreciating the aesthetics HKJFS

but childe,,, he was waiting for it to be over so he could see u ;-;

he appreciated the aesthetics, fighting mechanics & voice acting a lot tho !!

now he had gotten through all the tutorials, got all the chests he could he was finally in mond

and there u were 🥺 after the dvalin encounter u arrived before kaeya did

and boy did he show u off sm to his viewers HKJHKLF

they knew he was down bad before but now?? they know it’s hopeless to save him and if he ever falls out of love that’s when the world ends

luckily that’ll never happen tho <33

but he took !! so many !! screenshots !!

oh, and did i mention he changed his wallpapers to u? and his twt + discord pfps are also some very aesthetic screenshots of u from that first scene ;-;

now when he unlocks the wishing feature,,, u already know he’s wishing for u as soon as possible

and since it was the first release rewards, he had tons of wishes right off the bat !!

he was gonna roll for venti after he gets u bc,,, well does he need a reason??

also he doesn’t do well with archer characters in general ;;; but if ur an archer then ur obv an exception sooo

bUT he got a 5 star in his first 20 pulls !!

tho it was diluc 👩‍🦯

while he was happy bc he got an incredibly meta character right off the bat,

he wasn’t interested in diluc,,, (even now his diluc is barely looked after, and only used for spiral abyss, *sweats*)

the next 5 star he got was around the 60 mark, and he got a weapon,,,

i mean,,, he got the weapon that was most suited for u so that’s smth at least (ˉ▽ˉ；)

after he used all his remaining primos and fates, he finally got u 🥺

he just went “fuck the storyline” and immediately put u in his party and just

admired u as a whole

went through all the voice lines available, ur character story, ur idle animations (he had a heart attack from u and his chat clipped it) and took many, many screenshots

his favourite voice lines would have to be the night + about us + (y/n)’s hobbies

and then he equipped u with ur weapon and damnnn did u look so good with it 😩

he changed u to be his avatar, with his signature as :

“(y/n)’s whale <3”

and now the whaling process begins 👩‍🦯

after at least £2k, he got u to c6, along with at least 1 copy of all the standard 5 stars,,

then he went for venti’s banner—

his chat were just too focused on how he’s gonna play u to even think of anything else tbh HKJAH

with ur kit, u were honestly seen to be a dps or even a sub dps if ppl don’t want u on the field all the time

so definitely a perfect character for mr meta strimmer tartaglia (his twitch name btw ;;; childe is just smth he prefers his community to call him as but they also call him ajax too HKJSD) here

so he went through the archon quests with u as his carry and i won’t lie, ur name card is smth he has printed and framed behind him after he got it 🥺

he later finds out ur part of the fatui in the liyue archon quest tho and has to fight u with,,,

well, u ;;;

he finds it hot tho so it’s okay—

i won’t lie tho, his zhongli after he got him is his second strongest after u

he just builds all his characters in the most broken way he can so he can show his viewers that everyone can be a dps in their own right, not just the ones meant to be since there’s no right or wrong in this game !!

but now ur weapon is r5, ur lvl 90 and u have lvl 20 5 star artifacts that make u the most broken (y/n) seen

ppl who co op with him are honestly baffled,,, especially when the feature of them being able to view other players’ character stats become available,,,

u with ur nearly 3k atk,,,

he’s hit over 600k with u tho and he’ll always flex that

no one can top him as a (y/n) main and that’s honestly just a fact at this point 😩

when he saw that the dating sim hangouts was official, his immediate and iconic response was simply ;

“so when will (y/n) become a dateable, huh 🤨”

to this day he’s still waiting to be able to date u in-game <//3

Playing Genshin for a couple of weeks now and I have some thoughts about Mondstadt, its seeming prosperity, and criminal elements!! Also dunking on Diluc a little bit lol. I'm not even going to touch hilichurls, they're probably the one issue I expect the game to come back to in time! They seem to be an intelligent race that was cursed and so we might get some sad backstory and realize that we've been assholes to them, not 100% sure but hopefully. Other than hilichurls and the Fatui (and yeahhh so fun to make russians into villains, im guessing it's for attracting the american audience or something... at least the characters are interesting enough), there are also Treasure Hoarders, who in the archive are mainly described as workers who lost their jobs or some other manner of poor people who turned to looting and crime out of desperation. And yet the angle is that 'thieving is always morally wrong'. Somebody didn't read Les Mis, I guess! Another note, there seems to be a weird gameplay and story segregation where we as the Traveler do lots of looting and treasure hunting ourselves only to be commended for it. But I digress. My actual point is that interestingly enough those elements of worldbuilding come together pretty well when you look at the city itself! In Mondstadt it is most difficult to become a small business owner, made all the more obvious when compared to Liyue's wealth of shops, services, and traveling traders (Liyue has its own baggage of problems which tbh seem more serious to me but that's another topic). It's just not the most profitable occupation! Almost everyone we see out on the streets does their own resource supply, production, and service. Naturally, this means that those people don't earn enough to hire their own workers. In turn, that means that there are no jobs to be found in those places. So, where are all the jobs? For that we have the Dawn Winery, the Knights of Favonius, and the option to leave for Springvale to become a hunter or go to a different country altogether. The winery is described as the city's most powerful industry both for local consumption and export, but how does it actually treat its workers? Well, for example there's Patton who accidentally broke a bottle of expensive wine and is now basically an indentured servant to Diluc. He says that even if he worked without any breaks he still would need 48 years to pay off his debt. We can meet his daughter near Venti's statue who has to play by herself because her father is always working. Does that really seem like freedom to you? There's also Guy's father who works at the winery itself and can't afford to rest even when he is heavily sick and old. These are the worst examples for sure but others also have their own smaller problems like Charles who confides in us that he often feels tired and only takes nights off when Diluc is in a mood to tend the bar himself etc. It is kind of telling that we don't have the option of engaging with their problems and we can't really talk to Diluc about it either. For all that he defends the city each night, he shows no interest in defending his own workers from his business's predatory tactics. To say nothing of the great damage he does to the adult populace of the city, always supplying alcohol and tempting people with deals and sales when there are already too many drunkards even among the named characters. When the opposing tavern (which also only has Diona for a bartender even when her own father has alcohol dependence) chose to present a non-alcoholic beverage during the holiday Angel’s Share doubled down on alcohol. And it doesn't even have snacks? This one bit was probably just for joke purposes, but tbh it's pretty dangerous to drink without any snacks at all, it makes sense why people get so heavily drunk in the first place. Note that Diluc himself doesn’t drink, showing good judgment when it comes to himself. Meanwhile the only person Diluc seemingly has no problem cutting off is Kaeya and it’s not obvious whether that’s out of concern or pettiness. Nobody is cutting off Nimrod who is ruined by his addiction! Now this is probably the core reason why Nimrod turned to crime, and I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he and his wife are dependant on Kaeya who at the very least knows to appreciate his informants. Kaeya himself is also a gleeful enabler, by the way, which makes sense considering his uh.. everything. And his upbringing at the Dawn Winery didn’t hurt, no surprise why he’s so keen on wine himself. He might be shrewd and oh so clever when it comes to getting information in taverns, but his story details and voice lines confirm that there actually is a problem even if we don’t know the full scope of it. Now, the Knights of Favonius? Aside from being corrupt in the past they happen to hire minors (we can read that in their handbook) whom they don't even pay. What's that, free labor for the simplest of tasks? Makes sense why some of the adult knights laze about if all the work gets done by minors or the more focused and accomplished senior knights with Visions. That's a wonky structure for sure. Guy tells us that he became a squire at 16 and still has the boring job of guarding the back gates despite repeatedly showing signs of great dissatisfaction. I wouldn't be surprised if he betrays us later or something, honestly. Maybe Kaeya is preparing him for double agent work, who knows. Right now he has no opportunities for climbing the career ladder to take better care of his sick father, stuck in a pointless job for months. And that's a talented and focused young man! what about regular folk? Well. In the end, regular people have several options. They can give up and overwork themselves while spending nights looking for coins in the wishing fountain to try and scrape enough for their sister’s medicine. They can go to the Adventurers' Guild which has highly dangerous commissions with the most profitable ones taken on by Fischl and other professionals, hardly a dependant job for a regular person. There’s also Church which we know very little about. Likely it's dependant on taxes and donations and it’s the one organization that cares about the orphans of the city (no, keeping Klee in solitary doesn’t count as caring, Knights of Favonius!). There’s Springvale for hunters, farmers and chefs, a difficult lifestyle to maintain when the hunting grounds are in one of the Four Winds’ domains with strangely intelligent wolves. And then there’s the other more accessible and obvious option! You guessed it, it’s crime!! And there it is, the reason why there's such a big problem with bandits and overworked people in Mondstadt :) Honestly after writing all that down, if I were to RP a normal person in Mondstadt I’d try to get into the Treasure Hoarders guild at like 5 years old I think. Better than standing around watching random people kill my pigeons anyway. Tbh this is less of a 'makes you think huh!!' take and more of a commendation towards the writers of the game. They obviously have a more conservative outlook if they're so keen on condemning the thieves who have to steal in order to survive, but the world itself makes a lot of sense. It makes the game a lot of fun to explore.

of cats and curiosity | kaeya

✧ summary: does kaeya really hate his brother so much that he would become a regular at the cat’s tail? or is he up to something more?

✧ a/n: here it is! i think this one is pretty cute, ngl.

When Kaeya stepped through the doors of the Cat’s Tail, you were unsure of his reasons for being there.

Sure, the rivalry between himself and his brother, Diluc, was infamous in Mondstadt, but visiting his brothers’ competing tavern was an undeniably petty move in your eyes; something so insignificant that you imagined it would hardly upset Diluc at all. Nevertheless, you were quick to tell Diona to attend to him, as you happened to be busy making another man’s drink (or fixing it, really. Diona had purposefully skipped out on the alcohol. Again.)

You recalled seeing him walk in that afternoon, but never seeing him leave. When it was closing time, he was just… gone. You didn’t think any more of him until he came in the next day.

Now, here’s a burning truth: The Cat’s Tail just isn’t as good as the Angel’s Share. You loved where you worked (mainly because it was a tavern… and one that was devoted to cute cats!), but you knew that your workplace only really thrived off those who either had been banned from the Angel’s Share for whatever reason, and those who found it appealing to be ‘different’ and get drunk somewhere ‘exclusive.’ There was nothing inherently special about the Cat’s Tail, but the latter of your regulars pretended like it was so they, themselves, would feel special. Whatever reason brought in money, you eventually concluded, was good enough for you.

Kaeya, or at least your perception of him, fit into neither of the criteria. Unless Kaeya had really made Diluc angry, he had yet to be forbidden from entering the Angel’s Share. In fact, you had even seen him and Rosaria there the night before, while you were walking home. And then, even if he were banned from his brother’s tavern, you certainly would have heard about it from Diona, as she loved to revel in any bad publicity the contending tavern sometimes mustered up. But you hadn’t heard a thing. And you knew that he had enough confidence to feel special wherever he was or whoever he was with, so it certainly wasn’t that.

So Kaeya came again, and again. Always slinking off at some point before closing time. Furthermore, he always sat in the same seat, and constantly ordered a Sweet Flower Sangria (which you knew he wasn’t drinking for the alcohol because, again, Diona was the one making his drinks.) And even when you didn’t seehim leave, you knew he did thirty minutes before closing because you wouldn’t feel his gaze upon you anymore.

A week into his nightly visits, you decided that you were done wondering. Your curiosity had always been something that had sway over you. Sometimes, it clouded your judgement and made you… Well, Diona always called you nosy. You’d argue that curiosity? Nosiness? It was the same difference.

“Diona?” You called to the young girl, watching the elusive Kaeya sit in his spot once again. That night had been slower than most, which you weren’t going to complain about. However, it made him stand out more amongst the other regulars, who were anxiously waiting for more of Diona’s concoctions.

“I’m on it!”

“Wait! There’s a new customer over there.” You stop her before she can make her way to Kaeya. You miss the way his eyebrow raises in amusement. “In the far corner of the tavern.” You point to a man wearing tattered clothes and who was digging through his dirty rucksack. He’d certainly been there before, albeit a long time ago, but you needed a distraction.

“Are you sure he’s new? He looks familiar.” Diona said with a skeptical tone in her voice. “You haven’t been drinking, have you?”

“What?” You immediately replied, “No. And no, he’s never been here before. Go show him how much better we are than the other tavern.” Pushing her from behind the bar with an encouraging smile, Diona walked off with a scowl on her face.

“She’s something, huh?” The smooth voice from the other side of the bar said. You turned to face Kaeya, who was playing with a coin on top of the pine bar top.

“Too smart for her own good sometimes.” You sigh, walking over to him. “What can I get you?”

The man hummed a little and you couldn’t help the upturn of the corner of your mouth. Didn’t he always get the same thing?

“Hmm… What do you recommend?”

Oh. Oh. It was hard to tell because his voice always carried the same sultry tone, but… He was certainly flirting with you, right?

You’re left with a couple options with no time to consider. You could be sarcastic and offer him the same thing as he’s gotten for the past week, but that would also mean admitting that you were paying attention to him and what he was ordering, while pretending that you didn’t pay him any mind before.

He’s looking at you with his blue eye and you panic because okay, maybe he is cute. And, maybe, you do hope he’s flirting with you.

“I like… Sangrias.”

It’s a lie. You hate Sangrias. But with him on your mind, and with how much you know he likes them, it’s what comes out.

“Me too.” He laughed, “Truthfully, I’m a little tired of wineless Sangrias.”

“Sorry about that… You know Diona, though. I’ll be sure to put wine in it.”

“Well, I should have had you making my drinks this whole time then, yeah?” He was quick to reply. You watched the smile on his face bloom into a grin when the blush creeps across your cheeks and nose. Wow… He has a really pretty smile. You realized at that moment that you would make him anything he wanted if he showed you that smile again.

Moments later (and after Diona came back complaining that the man she just finished serving smelled), you placed the drink in front of Kaeya, patiently waiting for him to tell you the verdict of your mixology.

“Mmm… Very good, Y/N.”

“Thank you.”

You watched him take another sip before placing it back down. Looking around the bar, you decided you could spare a few moments to finally acquire the information you’d been craving for a week.

“So, I have to ask—”

“Why do I come here instead of the Angel’s Share?”

A scoff of disbelief left your lips before you could stop it which caused a laugh to emerge once more from Kaeya. “It’s a good question, Y/N.”

“Sorry… I shouldn’t be so nosy.” You swallow the small lump of embarrassment in your throat and go to turn away.

“I come here to see you, of course.” Kaeya crossed his arms over his chest and leaned them against the edge of the bar. You’re blushing a tomato red now, and Diona is suddenly at your feet cleaning a pint glass and pretending to not eavesdrop. “In all fairness to my dear brother, you and Diona are more kind to me than him. And you… Well, you’re certainly more beautiful.”

“Kaeya…” You tried to speak, but the sudden flattery had truly left you without words. You hoped the smile on your face would let him know that the sentiments were well received. Sure, you knew of his flirtatious habits, but never did you think they were that easy to fall for.

“Gross!” Diona said from under the bar.

“Diona!” You groaned, pushing her away from the conversation. “Sorry… That was very sweet of you to say.”

“I mean it, Y/N.” He said to you softly. It must’ve been a trick to pull you in closer to him so you could understand his words. It worked; you lean in closer and closer. It would’ve been embarrassing if he wasn’t so… alluring. Because, suddenly, you weren’t at the Cat’s Tail anymore. You were somewhere else; in some nearby universe where all that existed was you and Kaeya.

“Would you like to get a drink sometime? When you’re not serving, that is?”

A sigh escaped from you as you smiled even wider. “Please?” You mumbled back, so close to his face that you could just lean in…

“Not while I’m here!” Diona pleaded, placing her small (slightly sticky?) hands in between your faces. You groaned again, picking her up and off the bar.

“Diona!”
