The whole Chan’s room ordeal, I am sad too, but people are acting as if Chan is gone, he is not gone, he is still around, he is busy preparing for the VMAS and supposedly another major comeback within the next few months, and personally? If I was in Chan’s shoes right now, I would be embarrassed by fans bombarding my company, blaming them for not being able to do Chans room anymore. Unpopular (but shouldn’t be!) opinion. But I guess also not a big deal.

I hate the ‘Kassa’ name background it makes no sense. It’s such an obvious misunderstanding of assimilation and why names are changed through immigration and likely thinking the name Cassian is too formalized for indigenous-coded people in the jungle.

I do resume workshops for international (mainly Asia and Latin American) students in the US and people opt to make their names into a shorter and/or more culturally familiar nickname for their audience. Most times they just want you to use their original name even if it’s ‘difficult’ to pronounce. But the show makes it like if my Chinese name were Li but was like actually call me Ashleigh since the original is so unfamiliar.

Also people romanticizing his original name like it was forced against his will; like saying it during sex and whatnot. That’s a grown man 💀 I have a long uncommon Asian name but go by Lila and would be super fucking weirded out if you ever called me my Asian name. My parents may say it, but if my friends (from either country) or partner did I’d just be like hey stop disrespecting what I asked you to call me. It’s not special. I choose my nickname and how I want to go by. It might be a little weird that I had to ““change”” my name at all but I got used to it and it’s now what is familiar to me.

The show clearly thought they were doing something with an ‘exotic’ migration allegory. So no you can’t explain it away with ‘oh it’s like Sam short for Samuel and I can interchange them’ or ‘oh he changed his name and background because he had to hide’. First of all I’m sure the jungle had a very carefully designed citizen database to keep track of a name literally using Basic letters. Are you saying an economic explanation doesn't make sense, because some of the venues were sold out? The economics of touring are pretty complicated and there are lots of different parties involved. What stood out for me about these dates is that they were stand alone, usually if an artist from the US or Europe is touring that part of the world and also touring Australia the dates will happen at the same time. (Also just because a date says it is sold out doesn't mean all the tickets are sold). I think Louis will come back to the region in 2024. Given that there's no Latin American tour dates scheduled he's definitely touring in 2024, and given that I think Australian are likely, and the Indian dates he's hinted at are possible. There may be economic reasons to cancel the dates now, and the possibility of adding dates on later would have an impact on the economic dynamics. Is it likely? I've no idea - but I think it's worth suggesting that it's possible.

I know that a lot of people don't like speculation - but I do find it useful to work through the options as a way of being clear what the options are. There aren't a lot of options when it comes to cancelling a tour leg 10 days out. If the reason for cancellation isn't economic, then it's basically a health crisis (broadly understood) to Louis or a small number of people who are closest to him. If it's Louis it would have to prevent him touring, but it could be temporary (another broken bone for example). If it's someone he's close to then it will be quite serious.

I think it's worth spelling this out, because I see people really focusing on the fact that we don't know what the reasons are. And I want to absolutely reject the idea that that is something we're entitled to. The clearest way of doing that is being a little bit more explicit about what the options are - as that I think helps make it clear why the people involved might want their privacy. If it's a health matter for Louis, or the people close to him, then the only way we're finding out is if it's impossible to keep private (and actually the economic stuff they're never going to be explicit about either).

We might get some sort of explanation in the next few weeks, or we might not. If we don't the next bit of information we'll get is if the US leg of the tour goes ahead. If it does then we'll know that whatever it was that stopped Louis' touring was temporary. We probably won't ever know the reason (and just because a situation is no longer stopping him from touring doesn't mean that it is no longer affecting him in other ways). If it doesn't then the options will narrow and become more serious.

Those are broadly what I see as the options. I want to emphasise that we probably won't know what's going on. That other people's lives don't necessarily make sense from this distance. And it's perfectly reasonable for those involved to want to keep things from the general public.

And, my favorite moment in tbosas, Reaper collecting the bodies of his fellow tributes, his peers, even the ones who tried to kill him, into a pile. Taking the weapons from their hands. Closing their eyes and crossing their arms in the best approximation of a proper burial he can manage, covering them with the Capitol flag as a makeshift shroud.

The Games bring out the worst in people, yes. But despite the extreme circumstances, despite the exterior pressure of the Capitol, despite the fact that it could mean pain and heartbreak and death, it also shows that people have an enormous capacity for goodness. That even in a situation purposefully designed to make empathy impossible, people can't help but have it anyway.

Snow looks at the Games and all he can see is what's inside himself-- this pure animalistic drive to conquer and defeat. He kills and it feels good and he thinks that everyone else must feel that way too. He doesn't realize (maybe can't realize) that he is the exception, not the rule. He cannot see outside himself, outside his own warped perspective, to realize that the fact that people do show humanity in the games proves his entire worldview wrong.
