It ends on that meta moment between David and Georgia which I can only assume is to set up for the third season although I dunno if that was planned at the time as well. It’s ambiguous but not distracting if they didn’t make another one

tl; dr: Staged 2 is a unique and excellent addition to Staged 1. The added meta textual layer of the other celebrities breaking down their relationship based on Staged 1 allows for a lot of “hiding behind my hands so embarrassed” moments, but also by pitting them against each other, it reveals their actual love for each other through the bickering. Season 1 on its own is a nice vignette of its time but season 2 with it adds a tension and intimacy that really takes both over the top

Kinda dreading watching Staged 3 since it seems like people overwhelmingly like it less than the other two because of the loss of the Zoom format and constant arguing, but I’m already in this far deep so I’ll stick the landing

There are no Lady Danbury Penelope interactions. It does feel at times there are too many characters due to these interactions.

Overall good, the ending odiously was the strong point I gave it 10/10.

Unpopular Opinion: Snoopy is better when he has dialogue

I feel like I’m the only one who actually thinks this, but am I the only one who prefers Snoopy when he has thoughts and dialogue in the comics, than him being a “silent” character in the animated stuff? And sorta wishes his dialogue were in the cartoons as well?

(Well technically he always is silent but you now what I mean),

I know Charles Schulz chose for Snoopy to be “silent” with no dialogue for the animated cartoons compared to the strip, and don’t get me wrong, I love/respect Charles Schulz/Peanuts, but personally I never really liked this compared to the comics.

(You can read more if you wanna hear my reasons/ramblings lol)

So many Peanuts strips have the punchline of Snoopy’s inner thoughts that can be very sarcastic/funny, or whole strips are just simply Snoopy thinking about things.

Sure there some where he doesn’t, but overall in the strip he can BOTH have funny slapstick without dialogue like the cartoons along with many times where he has dialogue just like all the other characters (if anything Woodstock + the birds are the “no dialogue” characters in the strip)

But in the specials/cartoons, since they have to have him silent a ton of his strips either never get adapted into the specials, have some other character say it instead, or have someone narrated his thoughts for him, and it just doesn’t feel the same IMO. I also have always wondered why they couldn’t have just made it like Garfield where you can hear his thoughts.

And this may just be me but I feel like it even makes his character feel a little more unique compared to him in the cartoons? It’s hard to explain but idk I just feel that Snoopy’s character feels different when he has dialogue about things IMO.

Almost all of Snoopy scenes in the specials are usually just a b-plot of Snoopy doing silly cute or funny things for a bit until cutting back to the kids, which are funny don’t get me wrong, but at the same time Snoopy having thoughts/discussions in his head or snarky remarks just make him feel more like a character to me:

Plus I personally always loved his voice/singing in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” + “Snoopy the Musical!” Some people say the voice sounds off, but I disagree. At least IMO, those voices were perfect/cute for him, so it’s such a shame we’ll never get something like that again or even hear him sing again.

Also, if I’m really being honest, if a lot of Peanuts stuff is going to focus so much on Snoopy as the main focus (like The Snoopy Show), then honestly, having to keep him silent was a shot in the foot tbh.

If I’m really being honest, in my opinion with some exceptions like Snoopy Come Home, Snoopy not having any dialogue and/or just doing shenanigans only works as a b-plot that goes back to the kids like in old specials.

In stuff like The Snoopy Show, whenever eps focus mainly on Snoopy/Woodstock it’s just them doing “silly shenanigans” while making high-pitched noises all the time. It low-key gets kinda old in that show and I wait for the kids to come in during eps like that lol.

(For the record, I’m not saying that I never like cartoons where people don’t speak in them. I love Tom and Jerry + the Roadrunner cartoons, it’s just with those they managed to make it very entertaining and the way they do it in The Snoopy Show is not as entertaining IMO.)

Also I know this is sooo long but one last thing, the WW1 stuff is another good example of why I prefer Snoopy’s thoughts, sure it’s funny in the specials when you just see him doing it or someone narrating for him, but in the strips the fact that a puppy is sitting in the middle of a yard thinking of deep thoughts of PSTD in the war all in his head is peak comedy to me 😂

The fact that ANYONE thinks Jane Eyre is some cheesy old timey novel and not a book that is both METAL and HILARIOUS should be considered a crime. During her childhood Jane is constantly told she's the woOOOrst (mostly because she's inquisitive and quite plain). In fact a priest-type dude comes into her house being like "do you know what happens to terrible little girls?" and she says "yeah they go to hell" "so what must you do so you don't end up there?" and her reply? "I guess I should just not die BITCH". Jane is 10 when she says this... her power. Then when her aunt scolds her one too many times girl spits out a Shakespeare level monologue/roast about how her aunt is awful™ and is going to be haunted by Jane's father for being such a royal bitch and her aunt is so freaked out that she literally starts being nice to her for the first time (honestly I think she was legit scared she had accidentaly adopted the Devil and did not want to mess with that shit). Oh you thought it was a soft nice little romance afterwards? Jane meets Rochester🤡 who is fifty shades of batshit. He literally spends chunks of the book fucking with his rich acquaintances just cause and sideeyeing Jane like "Did you see that?? Jane did you notice that? What do you think Jane?? Tell me your thoughts Jane, WASN'T THAT FUNNY???" And the best part is she reacts to every one of his antics with perfect composure so much so that HE freaks out and ends up dressing as a fortune teller to get her to tell him what she actually thinks. This young girl who was told to shut the fuck up at every turn is suddely called again and again to give her opinion and boy does she give it. She calls him ugly TO HIS FACE and he immediately falls in love. She in turn falls for him so hard but is so sure he couldn't possibly like her that she DRAWS A PORTRAIT OF HERSELF AND THEN A PORTRAIT OF A "BEAUTIFUL" WOMAN AS A VERY PRACTICAL WAY TO REMIND HERSELF THAT SHE'S NOT PRETTY. Gurl 😭 that's so sad and also way too overdramatic, you guys deserve each other. Meanwhile the house is very obviously haunted but Jane hasn't noticed which is peak comedy for such a usually observant protagonist. I mean, a man has a chunk of his flesh bitten off and when Rochester says everything's fine she just accepts it. "Oh but Jane gives it all up for a man see??? She has no agency" When she thinks he's going to marry another woman but still intends to keep her as a governess she has my favourite dialogue in the entire book where she says: "Just because I am poor and plain it doesn't mean I'm not still a PERSON WITH FEELINGS. IF I WAS HOT AND RICH I COULD HAVE MADE YOU AS PAINFULLY IN LOVE WITH ME AS I AM WITH YOU. I DO NOT ADRESS YOU FROM THIS MORTAL FLESH BUT IT IS MY SPIRIT ADRESSING YOURS AS THOUGH WE DIED AND STOOD AS EQUALS AT GODS FEET, AS WE ARE". She's 18 in this part of the book... HER POWER. She later finds out ON HER WEDDING DAY to Rochester that he is already married to a woman he has locked up in the attic because she'll attack anything that moves (I mean she very obviously has a mental illness which has caused her to be violent but back at that time there weren't many or even any humane options for treatment so unpopular opinion but the fact that he kept her in his house and with a maid to take care of her was probably the best he could provide her with in this situation tbh) Jane runs away and wanders the moors all alone because she knows what happened wasn't right (and this is her rational reaction, i love her and also probably same) and while half dead she finds some people who turn out to be her COUSINS (GASP), she gets a job, inherits a fortune and gets another marriage proposal like a #girlboss. But then she has a "That's so Raven" vision telling her Rochester is in trouble. Turns out his house burned down and he's now scarred and blind and his wife is dead. Accurate recreation of their reunion;

* “Why do you always take me to places like this?” You ask as you walk beside him in the amusement park

* Someone like Nanami doesn’t strike you as the kind of person that comes to places like this

* He holds that same neutral expression as always

* “I guess....I’ve always wanted to come here with someone” You feel his hand brush against your own, and when you look up to him you see there’s a light pink dusting across those sharp cheekbones

* Without hesitation you grab his hand in yours, earning a startled look from him for a second before it softens

* Nanami is a pretty traditional guy, I feel like he wouldn’t really make a move while you guys are “courting” outside of a kiss stolen here or there

* I bet you have a small engagement party and a nice traditional wedding ceremony

* Nanami probably (reluctantly) introduces you to Gojo who whistles low when he sees you

* “So that’s your type huh Kento? I always thought you were married to your work”

* Nanami has to restrain himself from beating Gojo

* “Pay him no mind, he’s just an idiot”

* Gojo is kind of like your adopted child tbh, catch him hanging around your house, eating your food, and teasing Nanami just to get a ride out of him for his own entertainment.

top 5 saw movies

saw: the ultimate the eternal the unbeatable...james wan here are my keys go home and fuck my wife!!! just a genuinely good movie in every aspect (directing writing editing acting sound etc etc) and even after all my rewatches (i think i'm up to 18?) i still discover new things every time and the ending still Hits like hello zep playing up until adam's screams which continue over into the credits? oh the things i would do to experience that on the big screen. amanda adam and lawrence reshaped my brain chemistry.

saw v: honestly baffling to me that people hate this one so much because it has some of THE best traps in the franchise and the fatal five are arguably the most interesting victims post leigh's involvement. brit and mallick and luba my beloveds...also the twist is SO good and opening with the water cube and ending with glass coffin...genius. rip peter strahm you lived served thrussy and died.

saw iii: so my thing about saw iii is that i've only watched it once solely because the thought of rewatching amanda's death is too much for me to handle but. god. the amanda/john/lynn stuff is probably one of the best A plots in the series after adam and lawrence in saw...maybe even better just because the amanda and john dynamic is the most fascinating one in the whole franchise. unfortunately it loses points for subpar traps (the rack is admittedly a cool concept but it's so grotesque and the one trap in all nine movies i simply cannot stomach) and how much i fucking hate the jeff plot. booo tomato tomato.

saw ii: possibly above saw iii honestly but my lynn loving heart is putting it here. anyway. i think saw ii gets better on a rewatch once the Layers to it are revealed and there's more of an attachment to the wider narrative that's being put into place. amanda is at her peak (oscar for her performance when she "wakes up") and her relationship with daniel is SO good. kerry is being sexy and reasonable as always rip queen. the nerve gas house victims make for such interesting dynamics and i am fond of everyone except for xavier and obi. the brutality of the traps is definitely Upped but most of them are very good even if like, needle pit is upsetting to watch because mandy :( also the safe joke still makes me laugh every time like love him or hate him you can't deny that john kramer has some comedy gold moments. eric matthews suffering <333333

saw vi: tbh i do Not Like william easton but i think he's the only victim post the amanda trilogy that rivals the fatal five in terms of how interesting he is and he's such a unique twist on learning jigsaw's message. because he DOES learn but at that point he can't change anything and...it WASN'T HIS GAME!!! god another excellent twist. love that the thing is set in a zoo where the fuck did they get an abandoned zoo. shotgun carousel top ten trap of all time and pound of flesh is the best opening game in my opinion. other great moments include the healthcare for all message, perez being sexy, hoffman being a fucking idiot and making things so much worse for himself, jill being The Player, amanda content, strahm's hand, lynnmanda rights, piranha, return of the reverse beartrap, an excellent ending, and rodrick from diary of a wimpy kid fucking losing it.

2020 in review: kdramas (the heart fluttering, the disappointing, the saviors of 2020)

it’s december 31st! the new year is quite literally upon us (some of y’all are already in 2021) and my procrastinating self has chosen to upload this today. i’ve always loved these rec lists and I wanted to do one for 2020! this year was a rollercoaster for kdramas with some excellent ones and some not so excellent ones. i watched all of these in 2020 but not all of them were released in 2020.

drama that made me laugh

When The Camellia Blooms (2019)

i finally got around to watching when the camellia blooms this year and it. was. so. funny. oh my goodness, the comedic timing in so many scenes was pure excellency and im kinda mad at myself that i didn’t watch this last year. this isn’t just a comedy for those who are interested, its a thriller/romance but its also so fucking funny. definitely watch this if you want to laugh (and be touched bc the emotional scenes in this one are beautiful)

drama that made me cry

Sweet Home (2020)

hahah….. um this one is gonna go to sweet home friends. i went into this one with zero expectations and the first couple episodes didn’t really wow me? but i kept watching and holy shit fam. this show really picks up story-wise around ep 4 and makes the viewer love a lot of these initially unlikable characters. all i can say is that the end was devastating for me and i cried quite a bit. (warning, there are a lot of mature themes in this one so make sure you look for trigger warnings or send me an ask and i’ll list them all out for you) 

best OST

Itaewon Class (2020) 

i loved the ost for itaewon class!! the music is just so inspirational and pump up music, its so good. my favorites are ‘you make me back’ by woosung and ‘start’ by gaho.

drama with chemistry royalty (aka the best couple) 

i have three for this one because i just cannot choose one. 

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (2020)

we recognize this one as one of the best things to come out of 2020. go moon young and moon kang tae have some of the best chemistry i have ever seen in a drama couple. i waited on the edge of my seat every single week for the next couple of episode just so i could fawn over these two. they work so well together, lift each other up, and so fucking funny together and support one another. while they’re not the chillest couple (lmao) they’re most certainly one with the most personality. they’re so cute and bicker and they just get each other. who could ask for more.

Flower of Evil (2020)

our badass mom and dad 😭😭. this was another peak drama that came out this year and our married partners-in-crime-but-not-really had amazing chemistry. baek hee sung and cha ji won were so cute as a married couple but they were even more precious later on in the drama after certain things unfolded (no spoilers). they both just get each other and protected one another as well as on the most precious kdrama children this year, their daughter eunha. they were so wholesome, flower of evil is so very worth a watch.

Into The Ring (2020)

this was one of the more underappreciated kdramas of the year but hoo buddy was the main couples chemistry top notch. they were so friggin cute and i just couldn’t. goo se ra is highkey one of the best female characters i’ve ever seen, she’s absolute chaos, lawful chaos, but chaos nonetheless. her other half, seo gong myung is opposite from her as lawful neutral. he’s just along for the ride that is se ra and loves her. they’re both so very fond and protective of each other and back each other up!! very very cute and you’ll definitely replay more than a couple of their scenes together.

most disappointing

Record of Youth (2020)

it’s sad but true… i went into this one with so much hope and excitement (i was riding off that ‘psycho but its okay’ high) and i was vastly disappointed. the plot mostly focused on the male lead, and there wasn’t much characterization for the female lead which i didn’t like. honestly, i only cared about maybe 3-4? characters in the whole drama. the rest were absolutely terrible or plain boring and i ended up skipping eps 14 and 15 and just watched the finale. i would not recommend tbh.

Crash Landing on You (2019)

this one is absolutely on me, i want so badly to love this one. but i just… can’t seem to get past ep 2? i’ve tried!! i swear, but i just cannot get through it. maybe in 2021, i can try again and i’ll enjoy it more.

Kairos (2020)

i though kairos was a bit predictable tbh. i know those of us who did end up watching it really liked it but maybe its because i watch so many crime/mystery shows that this one didn’t really do it for me. the writing is quite solid and everything connects well, i would recommend that those who don’t really watch thrillers, to watch this one. (also the friendship between the female lead and her two friends is suuuper cute and worth it alone to watch kairos)

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (2020)

yeah… this one wins again lol. what can i say, i just loved it so much and the main theme of the show is romance (its also a comedy and a mental health/healing drama) all i can say is watch this if you haven’t yet, its definitely worth it!!

Memorist (2020)  & Watcher (2019)

i really enjoyed these two mystery dramas. both were super fun to watch and very kinda unique in their own ways. i liked memorist because it was lowkey funny and i liked the relationships between the characters, but most importantly i couldn’t guess the main antagonist by the end! i really thought i knew who it was and then i was completely wrong lmao. watcher was also very good, the main trio had really good chemistry and i really cared about all the characters. (also i’ll never say no to watching seo kang joon) plus the plot twists threw me a bit at the end which is always a feeling i welcome, i love being surprised and wrong (as long as it makes sense)

Hospital Playlist (2020)

oh my goodness, i was late to the hospital playlist party and i regret it because this show is so. so. good. its just a slice of life following 5 friends who are doctors and work at the same hospital together but its so much more than that. this is honestly one of the first shows i’ve seen that are optimistic? in the show, every time i thought a plot was going to play out a certain way (usually negatively, as tends to be life unfortunately) it surprised me by taking the more optimistic wholesome route. characters in subplots changed for the better, became more understanding, chose to do the right thing, etc. if you want a feel good drama where the main characters have wonderful platonic chemistry and just care about each other but is also super funny, watch hospital playlist!! (season 2 is coming out early 2021 and im so pumped)

favorite fantasy

The Untamed (2019)

this one is a cdrama but i watched it in 2020, mostly because of how many people on the internet were adamant that the rest of us watch this and ngl they were v right. the untamed was very very good and im really glad i gave it a chance and watched it, its also my first cdrama ever. the chemistry between the male leads is honestly what makes this show and its worth the 50? i think? episodes. to be completely honest the fanfiction for the show are peak and if you do watch this, go straight to ao3 and you will not be disappointed.

dramas that saved 2020

The Uncanny Counter (2020) & Run On (2020)

these two dramas are among those that started airing at the end of the year and will go into the beginning of 2021 and absolutely saved the end of 2020 for me. while neither of these are finished, both have been excellent so far and worth starting. uncanny counter has the best use of the found family trope i have ever seen. i fucking love the four counters and their relationship with each other, how protective they are of one another. they all have amazing chemistry and the actors have amazing chemistry in the making films.

run on has one of the cutest couples that will definitely make my best chemistry list for next year. i didn’t put them on this list bc they actually haven’t gotten together yet but once they do, they’re gonna be freaking adorable, i can already tell. there’s no specific grand events propelling the plot forward, but just following the lives of these unique, interesting and relatable people who have casual yet entertaining conversations with each other. the show is super soft and the main couple are so straightforward and honest (plus theres mutual pining!!)

→ pretty average island, not too much effort put into it yet

→ atsumu prefers channeling his energy and game time into bullying bella interacting with his villagers

kuroo tetsurō

→ bangs. it. tf. out.

→ literally acts like he doesn’t care about the game but has 395+ hours game time

→ uses the excuse it’s to play with kenma but kuroo actually got into it before kenma had the chance to look at it properly

→ fishing tourney KING

→ has multiple gold trophy’s and built a whole extension just to show them off

→ also treats all his villagers equally

→ he was a bit picky and only wanted cats and dogs on his island though

→ if you’re anything but a cat or a dog, i’m sorry but kuroo will timeskip you tf off of his island

→ has a soft spot for lucky but doesn’t admit it

→ he likes to come across as a “fair dictator of the island”

→ just admit luckys your fav and go oh my god

→ his house is really nice too

→ pretty much paid off all his debt and is financially responsible 😼

→ LOVES opening the letters from ‘mom’

→ it’s a small detail in the game but it brings kuroo comfort when he opens the letters and sometimes receives gifts from his virtual ‘mom’ 🥺

→ doesn’t really care when you point it out though

→ little shit KNOWS you only need oranges to complete all the fruits on your island

I’m sending you an analysis ask!! My ask is… Dave! What I always wonder about dave is how he became such a fan favorite among the young fanbase all those years ago. I feel like my original reading of Dave has been heavily influenced by the fandom activity surrounding him at the time (he was the 2012 hs fandom’s #1 sadboy). As a relative latecomer to the fandom, what were your reactions to Dave? And how do you feel today’s fans view him?

OH BOY DAVE!!!

yeah i remember he was a big fan favorite, because this was one of the things you knew if you just EXISTED in tumblr around 2012, even if you knew nothing about homestuck you jsut saw a billion fanarts of that one kid with the sunglasses. but really, "relatively latecomer" relative nothing, i am a brand new baby fan latest of latecomers and i will happily give you my Dave Experience

i can't speak for how other modern fans view him, but for me personally, honestly i have to say i think i really didn't Get Him until late act6; which isn't to say he wasn't an interesting character before then, but that almost everything interesting about him went over my head on the first read.

i think my issue was partly that i was taking his facade mostly at face value and that i didn't really get WHERE his angst was coming from in the ocassions it popped up. like.. it's not that i bought into the idea that he's this cool ironic guy who doesnt afraid of anything, but i guess mostly his typing style and sense of humor were a bit too true-to-life for what the kind of person who thinks "ironic enjoyment of shitty things, too cool to actually care about anything, troll the shit out of anyone who engages with you honestly" is peak comedy actually speaks like, which made him kind of an unpleasant presence to me at the beginning; knowing he was definitely using that irony to cover up something didn't really help, because that's just universally true of basically everyone who's Like That, and that doesnt make them any less insufferable

the thing about dave strider is that he actually keeps up the disaffected cool kid act for a looooong time, and with so much going on and so many characters and stories to think about, i never spared him as much thought as i could have... until act6 happened, and dave was revealed to be a massive dork, and that SERIOUSLY changed my understanding of him as a character. like it's really hilarious how much his early arc persona totally falls apart when you take away the comfort of text-based communication. the addition of body language and the loss of the fractions of a second to formulate answers REALLY change his dialogue and how he reads as a character in ways that are subtle but were kind of shocking to me when i was reading it

like, for example i never had the patience for his long random tangents in chatlogs because i got the feeling he was doing them because he was just that sure that whatever he was on was THAT witty and funny, or alternatively, NOT that witty or funny, which is why he went on those tangents to be ~ironic~ or whatever, and tbh i have adhd and not enough patience to sit and read his diatribes

eeexcept, late comic dave recontextualizes the HELL out of this by revealing that no, HE KINDA REALLY DOES JUST GO ON TANGENTS FOR NO REASON 100% GENUINELY AND ITS NOT A CALCULATED PSEUDO-IRONIC THING AT ALL which makes his lenghty rambling read VERY differently

that sort of stuff. like, i was fully prepared for the irony to be a cover for someone who does genuinely care about things- but i was NOT prepared for the CONCEPT OF IRONY ITSELF to be basically the only thing about his demeanor that wasn't mostly genuine, whether dave himself realized it or not. dave has been a riot on rereads, hes like a totally different character with hindsight

on the topic of Dave Angst in specific, i have to admit- the whole thing is actually VERY subdued before late act6 unless you're actually looking for it and paying attention to dave as a character; and while i imagine this was a given for many readers at the time, who already liked him as a character and were reading and thinking about each update as it came out, to me as someone blitzing through the comic at a stage where things were starting to get complex, i COMPLETELY missed major moments that inform his problems, philosophy, worldview, fears, and general arc

because of this, a lot of the major moments where dave is actually OBVIOUSLY distressed or upset, left me mostly asking "hold on, what??? where did this come from, what is this about?????". to be fair, even back then i was pretty sure that there WAS something there that must have been set up earlier and i just missed it, but it was still kind of a confusing read. some specific examples: dave getting upset at terezi after the coinflip godtier timeline splitting debacle, his whole disjointed speech about the reluctant hero thing in the first meenah walkaround, his entire conversation with grimbark jade where he just states he's not time traveling again. those moments totally blindsided me on my first read

another moment that completely blindsided me, but which i actually Got on the first read regardless, was the long-awaited striderchat. i did not AT ALL expect the direction that went, but it did a fantastic job at recontextualizing what i had initially just accepted without question as a comically exaggerated videogamey home situation (not that much of a stretch when the final member of the party was raised by a dog in the middle of nowhere), into a traumatic enviroment that informs a lot of WHY dave is the way he is and why he used to think and approach the world the way that he did

other than that, theres a lot of Dave Angst i am still only just untangling on the reread because his anxieties sometimes stem from really esoteric ideas that i couldn't wrap my head around when i was busy trying to keep track of the billion plot threads of act5 which i was reading as fast as possible lol. but like, just earlier today i had the realization that dave's fear of death manifests MUCH more strongly in fear over being responsible over alt versions of him dying, than it does when his actual life is being directly threathened. dave would be susceptible to dumb thought experiments along the line of pascal's mugging, is what i'm saying, much more so than he would be to getting actually mugged.

tldr dave is an interesting character and i like him very much now, but boy did i not Get Him until recently

2. seonghwa and a kid, i will literally cry, how old is the kid ???? pls Seonghwa would coddle the kid, the one who sneaks him cookies at night 😭😭 he’d be by the kid and if he roasts hongjoong, Seonghwa would literally hold back a laugh.

3. yunho best friends with the kid, luca would be so small and yunho so tall. idk why i imagined luca putting those design bandage on yunho’s hands 😭😭😭 but mingi and the kid, idk but the kid would literally be by his side half the time and wAIT WOULD THAT KINDA CURE MINGIS WHOLE ANGER THING

4. yeosang, man. a prince and a 6 year old boy, he’d literally roast the shit out of yeosang tbh. yeo would bite back but wooyoung would hold him back and laugh awkwardly, randomly making the kid eat something and asking for his review.

5. san 🤚🏼😭🤚🏼🤚🏼 he’d like loOK at the boy with such fascination and then look at y/n- san uncle 😭😭😭😭 NOOO SAN UNCLE !!!! and jongho, why do i feel like the kid would literally flick his forehead and jonghO would enter a different oblivion

am i liking the falcon and winter soldier you ask me, a devoted bucky stan since the young age of fourteen? an i liking the show where bucky speaks more than a few lines? of course, i do! it's great (and not only because bucky is in it). i watch it every friday, and it's definitely the highlight of my week (just like wandavision was tbh)

i like the action, the banter between bucky and sam is delicious and then they also added zemo in the mix? i love it!

and sharon? sharon is so good

also the scene from the last ep where wakandians fight with walker, and bucky just stands there, making fun of him? peak comedy

and about walker! the actor, who plays him, is very talented, because every time he appears on screen i want to punch him in the face. and when he starts talking? oh boy

loved the ending of the last episode! very powerful! can't wait for the next one <3

Sure do! I go through phases where I’m always reading fic and then phases where I don’t for months and try to read... books?? My favorites are normally ones that resemble rom coms or just certain authors whose voices encapsulate the characters well. Here are some faves under the ol cut :)

Here a a couple Teenage Bounty Hunters fics, which I’m assuming you are curious about given the current make up of my ao3 lol, even though, full disclosure, I haven’t read as much as I want to for tbh because it’s hard for me for some reason to read fic for a fandom when I’m actively writing something for it and I’ve been in an active writing mode for a minute on this last one. BUT these bad boys made it through the cracks!

But I’m a Fire and I’ll Keep Your Brittle Heart Warm by lco123 - an ideal post-canon fic, it feels like such a natural continuation and is sweet and warm and funny and I just adored it! Also everything by this author slaps.

‘tis the damn season by @dclarkadmin - ok you every hear a song and think of a ship and the. someone actually writes that??? Like exceptionally well!! It’s bittersweet but also lovely and in character. Once again, this is also an author rec, all their other fics also are great!

goodnight, dear void by @coalitiongirl - ouat -fun fact I watched like two seasons of once upon a time back in 2012 then fell off of it, but I still read the fanfic because it’s that good!!! This one is a you’ve got mail au which was very inspirational to the one I’m writing rn, so big fan, killer enemies to lovers energy!

dear friend by @jenny-calendar - btvs - another you’ve got mail au inspo, that gives truly the perfect vibes of hating each other irl and confiding in each other online and accidentally shit-talking yourself! peak comedy gold! it also captures the jenny/giles quippiness so so well, and is a downright delight.

when i die I’ll sacrifice (more than enough for the afterlife) by @notcaycepollard - avengers- it’s been years since I’ve really cared about the mcu at all (brief exceptions for himbo thor and lesbian brie larson and zendaya) BUT this fic made me care A LOT about the avengers and natasha more than any of those movies ever did and I think about it all the time. It’s just so beautiful written with such love and throught for the characters (it also makes everyone queer which never hurts)

The Best of It by @dollsome-does-tumblr - gilmore girls - a true delight of rory and paris in a fake relationship, and just the dialogue between them and every character down to each stars hollow townie is so finnh and lived-in in that way only gilmore girls can be. Also it’s fun that it was started in 2012 and finished in 2018, what a journey!

Travel by @apparitionism - warehouse 13 - full disclosure, I also never finished warehouse 13 but the fics for that show are honestly top tier and I oddly got into reading a whole lot of them about a year ago, almost a decade after the fact. This is one of my faves, a simple delightful pure rom com between hg and myka that just hits that balance of romance and wit that works for these characters!

Honestly now that I think about it, all of these are also recs for the authors, quality stuff from all of em!!

Hope this was somewhat what you were asking for, anon, I kind of just went for it! Hope you at least get a couple good reads out of this :)

Dramas & Films I watched in June

The Romance of Tiger and Rose (2020) [9.5 out of 10]

I finally watched this so I could stop avoiding spoilers and tbh it did not disappoint. I finished this in about 2 days and I honestly don’t know what to do with myself now. I might have to start calling Lu Si the comedy queen because of the one heck of the performance she put on. I also loved the chemistry between the leads and by ep 10, it was so obvious the male lead was so in love with her, my heart just burst for them. The couple also reminded me of Donghua & Fengjiu in some instances bc Han Shuo is whipped for his woman just like Donghua is. Anyway... I might have to go rewatch this bc I feel empty inside now. 

My Dear Lady (2020) [6.5 out of 10]

I watched this curiously because of the summary but it seems most of the plot happened towards the end of the drama and by the end it felt rushed. I also got bored often watching most of this but the acting was still good. 

Kore Wa Keihi de Ochimasen! (2019) [8.5 out of 10]

I do truly enjoy watching some jdramas bc they’re just 10 episodes with no exaggerated or lengthy plot line and this was exactly it. It also had the subtle romance plot which doesn’t take the majority of the 10 eps which I quite enjoyed. And pretty much each ep came with a different story which I also loved with odd exception of the romance plot and the two last episodes. 

Kleun Cheewit (2017) [7.5 out of 10]

This isn’t my first lakorn and it certainly won’t be my last either. The chemistry between the two leads were amazing. I’m not sure what else to say... felt like they dragged out some parts and some things were a little so-so but good drama. 

Mystic Pop Up Bar (2020) [9.0 out of 10]

This is probably one of the best dramas I’ve watched this year, at first I wasn’t planning on watching it but I decided to give it a try and little did I know, I was going to be hooked two episodes in. I did mostly watch it for the back story (with the young actors) and I hope when they’re older they might consider doing another drama together. But I’m a sucker for tragedy & angst which I also try to avoid most of the time going into dramas (this is a very odd combo). The plot was great. A great drama, and I notice this also applies to books, when the audience guesses and already knows of the plot twists before they are revealed. It’s quite satisfying when all the pieces fall into place and that is exactly what happened. Mystic Pop Up Bar also kept it light-hearted bc you needed the humour after watching some of the angsty scenes, phew. 

Someday or One Day (2019) [8.5 out of 10]

I guess you could say this is a murder mystery for most of the episodes. The twist and turns are quite unexpected and I quite enjoyed watching. Greg Hsu could have my heart any day of the week. (this list is getting longer and longer with each passing day)

Want More 19 (2018) [7.0 out of 10]

A short web drama. I mean... the main reason I was here was for Day6′s OST ‘Chocolate’ It’s a great song. Also an amazing band. Again, it’s just a breather in between long-winded dramas. 

The Legend of White Snake (2019) [7.0 out of 10]

I know I said below another drama review that I had changed my ways and don’t skip through things now. Well... I skipped through this one mainly because I got fed up and bored, this consistently lasted through a whole chunk of eps. So I kind of skipped to the end... I didn’t miss much if I’m being honest and I wasn’t a fan of the ending. 

Tokyo Tarareba Musume (2017) [8.5 out of 10]

I went through a phase of watching dramas but regretted not paying enough attention to them the first time I watched them, either by skipping through the episode or just missing out episodes in general. Now that I’ve changed my ways and want to fully appreciate dramas, no matter how good or bad, I decided to rewatch this. There’s nothing better than watching Sakaguchi Kentaro be an angsty af man. Anyway, I enjoyed this very much. Jdramas have a lovely charm about them by not being too long and don’t drag out the storyline either. 

Good Casting (2020) [8.0 out of 10]

A better title for this show would be Chan Mi and her sidekicks... I wasn’t really a big fan of her character. She was literally everywhere & I think that’s where the plot falls... maybe I would have liked it more if we actually had a chance at seeing more of the other main characters. I think I was trying so hard to find a reason to like it but there wasn’t much to like about it. The premise of it sounded so appealing but again, it was just another drama that fell short. 

When My Love Blooms (2020) [7.5 out of 10]

Let’s be real here... I was watching this for Park Jinyoung & Jeon So Nee, I don’t know about you all. Honestly... I felt like Jinyoung & Jeon So Nee’s storyline would have worked well in a standalone drama. That would be quite interesting to see. Anyway, great chemistry between those two as well. I can’t say much for the present day storyline, easiest way to put it, I didn’t like it. But I suppose it’s what I get for a melodrama with the added extra drama tag. (Note to self, stop watching melodramas) 

My Woofy Poofy Love (2018) [8.0 out of 10]

It’s quite refreshing to watch short web dramas like this in between heavy dramas. You are angst free while watching fluffy web dramas. This was pure sweetness and very uplifting to watch, especially because I’ve been watching some heavy dramas recently. 

Where Your Eyes Linger (2020) [10 out of 10] (BL)

I’ve never given out a 10 before, they’re rare, extremely rare. Perfect actors, perfect length of episodes, perfect storyline. I loved it. I loved the way it reeled you in the first couple of episodes, with the fluff and the humour, then it eased you in and gave you a taste of the angst to come before completely ripping your heart out. And they gave us a kiss! A KISS! It was one of the softest kisses ever. PLEASE GIVE US SEASON 2... Ahem. At the moment, it is one of the best dramas I have seen this year. (I’m going to have to compile a list at the end of year of the best dramas, aren’t I? There’s bound to be more than one, Mystic Pop Up Bar is heading for a Best Drama crown this year too) Anyway. Go watch it, it’s worth it. 

The King: Eternal Monarch (2020) [7.5 out of 10]

Okay, if you follow me, you’ll know I was watching this for Woo Do Hwan and also Kim Kyung Name (you might have not known that one) and the queen Kim Go Eun. I mean it’s definitely not the best drama I’ve seen all year, it’s only June, there’s plenty of time for another drama to come out and impress everyone. But with this one... there was nothing really keeping me there except those three. My interest did peak around the middle episodes but died down quickly after. I wasn’t in love with Kim Go Eun/Lee Min Ho pairing but that’s just me, certain episodes they clicked with me and others they didn’t. I wanted more out of that final ep but I don’t at the same time. I wanted to see more of everyone’s life instead of the brief snippets we got, not to be biased but I wanted more to see more of Jo Yeong. I guess you take what you can get... we were teased with so much, the excellent cast, the hype for it and having a well known writer behind it but having watched it, it was a big let down, for me at least. 

Born Again (2020) [7.0 out of 10]

For an overall mystery/crime/fantasy/melodrama drama (If we can call it that) it wasn’t that bad... if we exclude the horror of the romance plot. The writer glorified what Jang Ki Yong’s characters did and that was not okay, he clearly needed help. Main Female lead ended up with the wrong guy. Lee Soo Hyuk deserves better. The stylist and him need a raise for his outfits during the later episodes when his past self takes over his current body because hot damn he was pulling that off better than any other character I’ve seen in a suit. 

My Holo Love (2020) [8.0 out of 10]

I loved the beginning of the drama but my interest died down after the plot was revealed (an evil man wanting the AI)... but I did however love the last scene of the series, that was a nice way to end it. 

Novoland: The Castle In the Sky (2016) [7.5 out of 10]

I just struggled to get into the storyline, I’m not sure whether to go back and watch the “happy ending” (ep 29) because I was fine with how they ended things. 

Maybe, Maybe Not (2019) [8.0 out of 10]

This a web drama, sweet and short ^.^

Long Time No See (2017) (BL) [8.5 out of 10]

This is just a short little drama, I loved the chemistry between the leads and it was very action packed for the few episodes it had. 

Snow Flower (2019) [Movie] [7.0 out of 10]

There is just something about Japanese movies... and sometimes dramas. It’s hard to explain, where they can be the most melancholic and beautifully filmed thing. It’s the odd feeling I get when I’m drinking coffee and it’s raining outside and I’m just overwhelmed and feeling nostalgic. Have you ever watched a film where you thought it was good, not extremely good, just good and not really have any qualms with it. This was the movie. Setting itself to be a sad movie with it’s summary surrounding terminal illness, but it’s hardly reflected upon. It focuses more on the romantic side of things which I didn’t mind. If you’ve got 2 hours to kill then it might be worth the watch.

Secretly, Greatly (2013) [Movie] [8.0 out of 10]

Worth a watch. It’s a good spy action movie with the comedy elements added into it as well.

So I watched the Eurovision movie

Uh, I have a lot of thoughts because this is the closest we’re gonna get to the real thing this year ;^; First, the positives!

What they got right:

Overall, I like that it wasn’t really taking the piss out of the competition – whether you agree or not with how it was portrayed, the creators do have a lot of love for the show and that is reflected in how much it means to the characters. I think it was fitting to start with the kids watching and being inspired by ABBA’s win (I’m always up for showing people where the group’s fame started), and making it their life goal to perform in the contest. Just like Lars and Sigrit, many musicians in Europe grow up with Eurovision being an annual tradition and it’s their big dream to one day perform on that international stage, so yeah I think it decently showed how important ESC is here.

They got the overall vibe right too – most of the songs really felt like Eurovision songs (maybe a little dated but still), from the Viking-Europop opener to the Lordi-aesthetic one to whatever the hell Russia was doing. I don’t think Greece’s song was something they’d ever send though; it fits the character but not what the country typically sends. Then again, Estonia have sent an opera song in Italian and Romania sent yodel rap so actually, I take back that statement. They were missing a Balkan ballad though! Staging was on point – I think it was filmed at the Tel Aviv stage so that’s obviously a factor, but big angel wings and hamster wheels also bring a lot of familiarity :P No pianos being set on fire though, which, in a movie with so many on-stage disasters, is honestly surprising.

Of course there’s also the past contestant cameos, for that I’ll say one thing – needs more Verka. Maybe some contestants from earlier years would have been nice too, at least we did hear Céline Dion’s song in the song-along. Would also have been nice if the whole mashup was Eurovision songs, instead of throwing in some other ones just to make it more recognizable for non-Eurofans. Otherwise, the mashup was really seamless and sounded good.

Another thing the movie got right was European’s attitudes to Americans, not sure how I feel about it since the movie was made by Americans, but it’s self-aware and pretty funny :P There’s also the funny gag about countries not wanting to host because of how expensive it is, not sure why a guy working for the national broadcaster would care about that but looking at Iceland’s population size, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was also an economist for the government or something.

What they got wrong:

Of course, there were some things they didn’t quite get right. First of all, did the UK win for it to be hosted in Scotland??? Unless Australia won, or some other country that didn’t want to host or something. They actually made a joke about UK getting zero points, but they said it’s because no one likes us, when in reality we just send the blandest songs :/

There were also a whole lot of technical inaccuracies like Sweden breaking the rule on number of people allowed on stage, big five countries taking part in the semi-final (come on, how can you not get that right? Maybe they were afraid Americans wouldn’t recognise half the flags? :P), the contestants were just sitting by themselves in some room like it’s The Voice or something, their delegations nowhere to be seen, and then there’s the total lack of security or planning around the competition, with Lars just running around doing whatever. The countries presenting their votes in the semi-final stood out as well, but since we didn’t get to see the final I can brush over it, just so we experience the voting somewhere in the movie. Wonder why they didn’t use past contestants for the points announcements? They also had the French one speaking in English but you know what, they remembered to make sure he was standing in front of the Eiffel Tower so I’ll let them off :P

One thing that did bother me was how hard the movie tried to make us think the Icelandic song was a failure, except the song wasn’t even bad so they had to resort to all the incidents on stage. They even had that complete silence after the hamster wheel incident, and there is NO WAY that would ever happen – even the null points songs get cheers! In fact, people would cheer harder, and I don’t think Graham Norton, or anyone for that matter, would be that surprised that people remembered the song and actually gave it points (oh yeah, great to see him in this!).

Okay, some of those inaccuracies were nitpicks, but they’re just fun to point out. I don’t think they quite nailed the portrayal though, but more on that later.

The movie itself:

Judging the rest of the film, the humour really didn’t do it for me- it was just kind of jarring that one half of the movie felt like your usual light-hearted music contest film that was fairly rooted in reality, then the next there’s a dismembered ghost of Demi Lovato and a guy getting stabbed by Elves??? I know it’s classic Will Ferrel random comedy but honestly, those parts could have been cut out of the movie just fine, it’s like half an hour too long anyway and you can tell by the way the humour drags. It can basically be summarised by the ending scene where Lars is yelling at the Americans and then just keeps going, and I know that’s the joke in that scene but they do this throughout the whole movie – something will happen and the characters will keep reacting back and forth and it’s honestly exhausting. That might just be me though, maybe I’d prefer more witty and self-aware humour in a Eurovision movie but I guess non-fans wouldn’t get half the jokes so they went for over-the-top ridiculousness ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As for the characters, Sigrit was great; she’s a good mix between cute and weird. Lars is… annoying tbh, maybe I just don’t care for Will Ferrel's character type but when Alexander asks Lars what he can possibly offer Sigrit I was like “yeah Lars, what CAN you offer?”. Their relationship was cute though and his arc about caring too much about winning was decent, it does kind of resonate with Eurovision because yeah, lots of countries will revamp their songs to have English lyrics and the style is increasingly converging to Americanized radio-friendly pop music. I do wish they’d focused more on this conflict, rather than bringing in a love square (?) with Alexander and Mita.

Speaking of Alexander, I actually liked how they portrayed the Russian character; he wasn’t a villain, he was fun to watch and was genuinely happy to see Sigrit succeed. I did not expect them to go there with the whole “there are no gays in Russia” thing – I laughed but also actually felt for the guy, and his friendship with Mita was peak mlm/wlw solidarity, it was sweet.

The ending:

For me, this is where it goes American Hollywood style and kinda reminds me of Madonna’s speech about everyone being winners. Felt like I was watching Camp Rock for a second then (which is funny since Demi is in this movie) – all the other acts are fun songs but we’ll just change ours to a ballad so it must be more heartfelt and resonate with the audience, as if a good chunk of ESC songs aren’t ballads already!! To be fair, they do well in having it be a personal song about her hometown and adding in parts in Icelandic (although I’ve heard it’s so butchered you can’t understand what’s being said), it’s a sweet ode to one of the best parts of Eurovision – celebrating where you’re from and making your country proud.

Wish they’d focused more on that tbh, we really could have done without Lars speaking to the audience – that’s the more Hollywood moment for me and kind of reminds me of acts that try to connect with the audience like it’s a concert. Sorry but we don’t do that here :P Instead of the “music is feeling”-like message, it would have been nice if the movie was more directed towards celebrating why the contest is so big and important even decades after it began, and how it literally brings an entire continent together for one night. This would have been nice especially because of all the cynicism towards ESC and its dismissal as just a dumb, campy event with no quality music whatsoever.

Huh, I just remembered there are no live instruments at Eurovision so how everyone can hear the piano at the end is beyond me, also the instrumental kicks in despite the fact that that song has never been recorded in a studio, let alone able to be played out loud onstage. But I’ll just imagine that’s for us to see, the audience actually just heard her singing and nothing else. I don’t think it would have been that impressive, so Iceland probably won everyone’s hearts through memes instead :’D

Overall, I don’t think the movie was terribly offensive or anything, just some silly fun that missed out on the potential of better portraying the Eurovision spirit. I might eventually watch it again, but with skipping out half the comedy :P
