OK PREFACING WITH IM SORRY IF I ALREADY SENT THIS EXACT ASK BUT MY WIFI KILLED ITSSLF AS I SENT IT SO IDK IF IT ACTUALLY WENT THROUGH. but in case it didn’t . i know youve gotten this countless times in the past because i blog stalked just in case youve mentioned something similar before but i need to know if you have any specific inspirations when you draw exaggerated expressions specifically like these two images of marcille. ive actually cried laughing over this comic and being able to communicate this type of visceral emotion is such an insane skill and ive followed your art for probably close to a decade through various fandoms so watching you develop this style has been fucking awesome and epic. like i cannot articulate how funny these are to me i just need you to understand i look at this comic to inspire me to draw now. the closest comparison i can draw to the feelings they evoke are like those mspaint reaction images and also mspaint tails i included for reference even though you probably know exactly what im talking about anyways but its actually so much harder to do that intentionally when you study art. also i lied you literally don’t even need to answer this i just had to let you know how obsessed i am over your silly comics and now ive written out a whole ass discussion post about it. im sorry if this is weird at all i think my daily prescribed amphetamines r wearing off and i know this is such a dumb specific thing to fixate on and im so sorry if its not something you want to hear about your art. ive just always seen that as an artist this type of expressive stupid silly style is something that comes after a significant amount of time and practice and study and style development despite being “simple” in theory. its just so cool to have worked with your own style so much that youre able to go “off model” from it and still maintain consistency with the rest of the piece. i said it already and im sorry this is actually rendundant now but the ability to communicate such raw emotion somehow decreases from at its height when someone is a beginner artist learning how to proportion and keep a steady line and what looks “normal” but somehow it all comes full circle because taking all that experience and using it to almost return to where you started but in a fully informed and intentional way so you can make choices to draw characters like this when the situation calls for it is just dhcidogakgoshfhw. i think i need to cut myself off or im going to talk in circles im sorry tumblr user sabertoothwalrus i just am fascinated by your style and progress and the years you’ve dedicated to art can be seen in so many places but this is just one that stands out to me specifically.

MMMMM what a fun question!!!
I'm not gonna lie, I think it's just Letting A Drawing Be Bad. I definitely think the people that struggle with this the most are people who have genuinely very pretty art styles, to the point of being kind of perfectionist about it. and to Draw Funny often means Drawing Fast and Weird. Pretty is kind of the antithesis of funny (unless being pretty is the punchline). do drawings that make yourself laugh. tracing/lining funny sketches almost always makes them less funny.
one of my favorite types of humor is when it skews more deadpan, actually. This is one of the reasons I love Adventure Time. minimal expressions and flat line delivery + absurd context is a really good combo. the key to comedy has more to do with contrast! if your drawings are allllll crazy ren & stimpy all the time, they're not funny anymore cause it's just "normal". if it's all subdued UNTIL it's extreme, and vice versa, then it's funny. The reason this comic is so funny is because of the complete lack of any expression. I feel like the one you sent of Marcille shouting "WHAT" is funnier when you know how much she tries to be dainty and feminine and delicate, how much she values her appearance, and how averse she is to "gross" or "weird" things.
something I find really annoying (and this is with comics/animation in general, not the expressions themselves) is when the joke goes on for too long. Like you'll have the joke, then the punchline, and THEN the characters reacting to the punchline??? Like the author didn't trust that their audience would find the joke funny, so they basically drew in a laugh track. But, this is distinct from a character's reaction being the punchline (like how the examples you gave from my Marcille comic are). MY POINT IS sometimes expressions aren't as funny on their own as you think, and context can affect how you feel about it!
as far as inspirations go!
my own face! even if I don't have a mirror, I like making the expressions myself so I can "feel" where the points of tension on my face are, and it gives me a sense of what to exaggerate.
my brother's art, believe it or not! we've been trying to make each other laugh with our drawings since we were kids, and he's really good at it.
ATLA has some great expressions
OK KO has been a reallyyyy good source for me lately. That show is so tailored to my sense of humor and the expressions and line deliveries feel exactly like the kinds of things I'd come up with. The tone, timing, and art style are all really close to the tv show pitch I'm working on, so when I feel like I've "strayed" too much from it (like after drawing a bunch of dungeon meshi, and my art feels tighter and... idk "manga-ier"?) I like to go and watch a couple episodes of OK KO to loosen back up
A lot of things like OG Spongebob, Calvin & Hobbes, the Simpsons, Chowder, etc etc
memes in general. if it makes you laugh, keep it in mind
and lastly, I wouldn't say I ever try to mimic funny expressions I see. Like if I watch a show for inspo, I'm not pausing it to copy specific drawings, I'm just trying to notice patterns and pay attention to what about it I find funny.
talking about being funny is really bizarre and I dunno if it makes it lose some of the magic. Ultimately it's something you can't think about too much, and just gotta go with your gut.

Teeheehee I FINALLY MADE A HOMESCREEN FOR MY IPAD (feel free to use it for yours too if u have one). And it’s Cinderella boy because screw you, I’m not obsessed
Tumblr media
Some doodles from magma, I LOVED doing the one with all of buddy’s outfits they’re so much fun to draw
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now. Let me tell you about the HORRIBLE DISCOVERY I HAD 😨 under the cut
I JUST FOUND OUT. that insta put in their privacy policy that they scrape EVERYONE’s posts for ai generators, and it’s impossible to opt out in countries like the US 🫢 🤢 🤮 but it’s whatever I didn’t like having rights anyway✌️✌️✌️ so now I have to put an ugly ass ai distortion filter on everything, I didn’t bother to put it on the doodles here cuz at least tumblr gives u an option to opt out but look. At the crusty ass version. That I had to put on insta…
Tumblr media
EWWWWBHGRUEHIHEUWHAHSRAAAAHHHHHHHHH IT LOOKED EVEN WORSE ON PHONES, ON MY IPAD ITS EASIER ON THE EYES BUT PHONES… RRRAAAAHHHHHH SCREW META😓 WHY MUST YOU CAUSE ME SUFFERING..
I might have to only post my doodles here on tumblr because doodles don’t look good with the ai disturbance filter, and it looks like this cuz it needs colors for the overlay to work☹️ Ough…. I can’t wait to get glaze
If any of yall post on insta be sure to download glaze to protect ur art if u have a laptop or computer, or ask for webglaze following the instructions on the glaze site (I would download on a computer it cuz it’s the faster option if u can) (webglaze requests take a WHILE cus they have to sort through it by hand to ensure you’re a human artist, I’ve been waiting for months for mine ehoowie)

finally got the chance to draw so I kinda went ham with drawing up a headcanon sheet for the Eliksni, in which I blatantly disregarded the canon skintones and just had fun (i don't really enjoy how pink they are in canon personally- I think they should have more natural colour variation)
Some notes:
-The freckles on Eramis and Variks are just freckles, they're not due to age. As for the alarming amount of minor scratches scarred into Eramis's neck and, to an extent, Misraaks- those are marks from hatchling claws! They're traditionally considered marks of beauty and wisdom in Eliksni society. Eramis has many to mirror her many litters, while Misraaks only has a couple from Eido
-I drew everyone but Taniks bald because I drew Taniks first and then realized later that it kinda obscured my hcs for their individual head shapes, so their setae is on the bottom. Setae is someting that only fully sexually mature adults develop, and is much closer in texture to a horse's mane than human hair. It also runs all the way down the back of their neck, much like a mane, and in some cases (like Taniks) has barbs or hooks along its strands so that ornaments can be woven into it, which is inspiration that I took from decorator crabs
-Eramis's facial scars were given to her by a Guardian at Twilight Gap, and are deep enough that they cut into her nasal cavity. Luckily, it's right near the nostrils anyways so she isn't impacted too bad, but she does have to be careful about keeping it clear of debris. Deep in her eye sockets, she's also had some electrodes installed that link to sensors in her helmet and give her little buzzes/shocks whenever something passes in front of it to help compensate for being half-blind, but it's a pretty crude device that doesn't work all that well on small objects
-Each Eliksni's ethnicity is written below their names, which is why Eido has a question mark. She's a mixed kid- try to guess which Houses her parents might have been from ::3
-The horns/shoulder spines were extra spikes of mineralized chitin that were common on adults in Riis, and were traits that were lost during the Drift. They often were calcium/mineral stores used to show age and fitness, but since resources in Sol are scarce, they no longer grow during molts. Riisborn Eliksni still have horn nubs, but that's about it
-As for the sexual dimorphism thing: that's more just me musing about how slight it would be with my hcs about their reproduction (which involves females laying fertilized eggs into a specialized broodpouch in the male, who then builds on their yolk supply and gives them the calcium needed to form eggshells, and thus needs to be bigger). When given actual Eliksni with a natural range of bodily variation, it would be near-impossible to distinguish them

Surprise! I am going to rant about my own redesign and art! I think this is me mentally preparing for the helluva boss episode next week and praying to god it’s actually good. I’ve also been nursing a bit of a hangover today so forgive me if my wording is a bit more jumbled than usual
Im a big fan of my Angel Dust redesign, but in the general aspect of my art, a lot of my poses are a bit flat. That can be from either posing issues on my end, trouble with facial features, or just some secret third thing, but I think so far Ive been enjoying drawing much more cartoonishly as of recent. That vox canon & headcanon drawing was super super fun to do even though it was supposed to be vivzies style, but I used to have a style with more sharp angles and pointy curves that I honestly kind of miss, I also miss playing with cartoonish proportions!!
My art style may end up changing eventually, but my main pieces will stay in my usual style and my more doodle-y ones will probably be in a more cartoony style like the ones above. While theyre definitely closer to canon and meant to be inspired as such, the difference is that I can draw diverse body types in said artstyle! I also cant lie, Angel’s chest fluff is one of my absolute favourite things to draw and it’s so easy in this style…
About my redesigns though! This is mostly about Angel, but I’m gonna slap this here from DMs with a friend: “Im so pleased with this genuinely im so happy he has his little pedipalps, theyre technically also still his fangs but now he can move them and stuff and :33 typically for male spiders the pedipalps are a reproductive organ but that isnt the case for angel or many other arachnid or insect sinners id say so I think personally most of them have developed pedipalps for primarily other reasons like fangs in Angels case or maybe something similar to cat whiskers for other people”
In my original angel dust redesigns I just couldn’t find a way to draw his fangs in a way that made me happy because I want to keeo the same energy in his face as the original. Big clunky fangs that stick out just didn’t work for him and while they made him look like a spider, he lost that sort of angel-ness that I need when drawing him so I instead looks to the pedipalp aspect of spiders to move them off of his mouth and more onto his cheeks. It’s a very small change but it improved the design in my eyes significantly and just really made me a lot happier. I wont be updating his redesign post as of right now and maybe never will, but if I do yknow why now!
I just really really like drawing this guy a bit rubbery, hes supposed to be fluffy so like he should move kinda soft in a way? I dunno how to explain it rn, its 2 AM at the time of writing this so im gonna lay the hell down now!

Hello! I’m just here bc I’m a little confused on what you meant by Smythe drawing out “each individual asset” when she was making comics? Now, granted, I can see that it made her file ginormous, but me personally as someone who knows nothing about making online comics but is really wanting to get into it (and also as someone who has a ‘too many layers’ problem myself), is there a way to avoid using too many layers?
My current way of making comics has been to draw the panels individually and then format them (which I know is terrible management wise and also messes with the quality) but I honestly have no other idea of how to do it properly, and seeing how stunning Lore Rekindled looks, I don’t know how you would manage to put all that lighting effects and little details on the same layers. (But also I may be thinking of it wrong so I’ll let you talk qwq)
Ah I can actually give you a visual breakdown of what I meant by that!
Tumblr media
So in this you can see there are a TON of layers, and not even all of them are visible because some of them are stuffed into FOLDERS that have been left closed. BUT if you look REEEEALLY carefully-
Tumblr media
^^^ These layers right here? That's specifically Minthe from this panel in Episode 61:
Tumblr media
(the unique pose here makes it real easy to tell that this is the corresponding panel, you can see the matching body shape with the dark shading that's clipped to the base layer below it!)
So what this means is that Rachel didn't draw all her characters on one base layer, she drew every single character in every single panel separately. Now of course, she could merge all these layers together as working on separate layers helps make it easier to work on elements that collide separately (like one character being 'underneath' another character like Hades is here) but because she has all of those clipping layers with the shading already added in, she likely didn't merge them afterwards because that would actually create MORE problems (because if she merged the Minthe layer in with Hades, then the shading for Minthe that she painted outside of the lines would show up on Hades and then she'd have to erase it which is just a bunch of extra work).
You can also tell all these characters are on their own layer because the layer thumbnail EXCLUSIVELY shows those characters. A layer will show as much canvas length as it needs to cover what's in that layer, so if the thumbnail is only showing one character, that means there's NOTHING ELSE on that layer. If there were more elements on this layer than just Minthe, the layer thumbnail would look more like this:
Tumblr media
Now let's compare it to Rekindled's layers! I'll use a completed page to make it fair as we use a lot of extra layers in the post-production phase where we add the texture effects and glow and all that fun stuff, plus I'll even make it a more complicated page like that big nymph explanation spread from Episode 51:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I'll break it down to make this make more sense:
BG 2 Copy (technically this is supposed to be BG 1) - Basically the panel shapes, what I'll do is mark out the panels with flat blocks and through that we'll add background elements in a clipping layer (usually done by Banshriek). Often times they'll do multiple layers to make the process easier and then merge them all together in the end. With these shapes operating as panels, it means I can just auto select the whole layer, invert the selection, and easily erase whatever's outside of it (such as the lineart and base colors that I put down afterwards). I could just use masking layers like I did in [AFTERBIRTH] but I find this way works better for the process of making Rekindled.
BG 2 - This is where we add objects / foreground elements. So stuff like furniture, interactables, anything that needs to be kept separate from the larger background to make it easier to work with. This can also include "floating" panels that need to be above other panels, such as this:
Tumblr media
All of the backgrounds are then nested in a folder for organization purposes (we also sometimes use clipping layers on top of those folders to apply extra effects over anything contained within that folder without affecting other folders, that's a common technique that Banshriek applies)
Then we get into our Characters folder:
BASE - This is where I do the majority of my work, all the characters in every panel on a page are flatted into this layer. Sometimes I do have to create separate layers to, again, make it easier to work with overlapping characters, but usually those layers will be merged before I go into the shading process. I simply shade on a single layer by using the lasso / magic wand tool to select my area for painting, the flat colors make it really easy to do that. Sometimes I need to create a secondary shading layer if I've put down dark colors that start to bleed into the lighter colors, but again, I merge when I'm done into a single shading layer. We also sometimes employ an Add (Glow) layer into the clipping set if we need a glow effect that's exclusive to the characters and doesn't travel outside of their base colors.
There's a (leaves) layer here that I used for the dryad because I needed the leaves to be above the base layer, after that I selected the leaves elements so that I could erase the lineart in the layer above it where needed.
Tumblr media
LINEART - It's lineart, enough said haha That said, I do think Rachel actually uses clipping layers for her lineart in places, it seems to be visible in some of her process videos where you can see the lineart present in a clipping layer, and that would explain why there are panels where the lineart suddenly 'cuts off' and doesn't travel outside of the base layer, like so:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GLOW - This is where we do an Add (Glow) layer that isn't restricted to the base layer, it's where we add all the fun lil' glow and sparkle effects over the characters !
The CLOUDS layer is, like the leaves, a background element that needs to be above the base layers rather than constricted to the background.
Above the Characters folder you can see what I mentioned earlier where Banshriek has added more post-production effects that are exclusively clipped to the contents of the Characters folder. This means the effects / blend modes do NOT affect the background layers or anything above it.
The BLUR (Overlay) layer is something we just started doing over the past several episodes, it's a technique I actually picked up from 66 of City of Blank where I merge all the layers into a new visible layer which I then apply a Gaussian Blur to at around 60% and then set to Overlay (and then I adjust the layer opacity until it looks right, usually around 25-35%), it gives it a bit of a softer "dreamier" vibe in the final colors and really helps unify everything!
CANVAS - This is an Overlay layer which is also set to an opacity of 25-35% where I go over the panels with the Add Canvas brush from the Kyle Webster set, unlike the Canvas overlay texture in CSP I can actually choose the colors I want to use which means I can match the canvas texture color to the mood and environment of the scene (ex. I'll use a very light blue for scenes in the Underworld). Not only does it give it that signature texture from S1 of LO, but it also helps balance out the effects of the BLUR layer.
The SKETCH layer sits on top of everything and gets turned off once all the base layers and lineart are down, and ofc the SPEECH folder is just where all the text is kept.
I know everything I just laid out is a LOT but ultimately it's how we operate, it works for us! But it also begs the question of why Rachel operates the way she does because a lot of it seems extremely unnecessary and more likely to bite her in the ass (the more layers there are, the bigger your file size gets, the risk of drawing on the wrong layer increases as well as the risk of posting a panel that's missing elements because the layer was left turned off by mistake, etc.) And it's more so concerning with how she operates with her assistants because if she's still using this many layers when collaborating with other people, hooo boy. Though based on what I've observed of what her assistants contribute, I get a lot more of the sense that she circumvents this by having the artists do the flats separately and then importing them in as separate assets that she then just imports into the page and places them where they need to be. Still not a great workflow IMO because it's what's led to a lot of the issues of characters "floating" rather than feeling like they're actually in the environment-
Tumblr media
-but that's still an issue that could be solved by Rachel just taking more time to actually flesh out the backgrounds and lighting to give more of an impression of the characters actually existing in the space. Like that Hestia panel could easily be fixed by just giving the background a bit more detail and putting actual shading underneath her (and lighting from whatever direction it's coming from).
Either way, regardless of whether or not Rachel's process is productive or not, I hope that breakdown helps explain how we do it in Rekindled! Learning how to manage layers is definitely a skill that can be tricky to harness, but once it "clicks" there's a lot you can get away with. Ultimately how you do it is up to you, but my best piece of advice to offer is to just be open to other types of workflows because you don't know how much you might be shooting yourself in the foot doing things the hard way when there are often way easier and more efficient ways to get the same job done. That's basically the vibe I get from observing Rachel's workflow, it seems like she's still using methods that she thinks are working for her (and probably did work just fine for her when it was JUST her) but could be vastly improved for her and her team if she'd just get over the initial hump of stepping outside of her comfort zone. Would probably make for a better comic too LOL
I hope that helps! Good luck! ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡

How do you draw Astarion so well? I have so many ideas of things I wanna draw but my style is so anime weaboo, how do I make him not look 12 years old
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoy the way I draw Astarion, it has been a journey haha!
Well, if you've been drawing in an anime style and think it looks 'too young', then you probably haven't done much realism and have mostly focused on minimalistic and cartoon art.
There's nothing wrong with that; it's just that most anime/cartoon art aims to make things look cute, young, or ageless because it's easier to draw and relatable for the audience. You need to keep this in mind if you want to draw a face that looks older or more mature.
So depending on your visual goal, the differences are:
Smaller eyes
Bigger nose
distinctive jaw and chin
general sharper bone structure and muscle anatomy
wrinkles and skin texture
possibly more facial hair/hairy eyebrows
But I would always suggest starting by trying to copy the face of the 3D model to get an idea of the shapes and size differences of the figure.
Tumblr media
But I don't think there is anything wrong with drawing anime astarion, if that's what you are comfortable with to draw and if it fits to the art and emotion you want to communicate. :D
I hope I was able to help a bit! Have fun drawing!

I don’t think we read enough Ed/Stede 69-ing. I bet you could give it to them, as a treat? 👀
I have been gleefully waiting until sexual sunday to share this one! You're so, so right Kylie. 69 time
--
This sounded a lot easier when Stede was describing it to him.
See, both Ed and Stede enjoyed getting woken up with blowjobs, but they’d forgotten whose turn it was to do the waking, and Stede had proposed a little competition. Now, face-to-face with Stede’s perfect dick, with Stede fucking licking his lips as he got settled between Ed’s legs, pressing a kiss into the crease of Ed’s hip…frankly, Ed was starting to rethink his declaration of an eminent easy victory, because this was so fucking hot that he was a bit worried he might come the second Stede got his mouth on him.
He must’ve been tense, because Stede’s hand smoothed gently over Ed’s thigh. “Alright?”
“Perfect,” Ed sighed, letting his shoulders relax. That was one thing about sex with Stede, no matter the angle - he could always just let go and have fun.
“Great,” Stede said cheerfully, and then he immediately got right the fuck to it.
“Oh, holy shit,” Ed whimpered, his head tipping back and his hips bucking forward as Stede closed his mouth around his cock, swirling his tongue around the little head, humming in delight like he always did at the taste of him, and why was that so hot -
Stede pulled off, chuckling softly at Ed’s whine. “Ed, my dick is feeling really neglected -”
“Oh, right, sorry.” Ed shamelessly wiggled his hips until Stede got back to work, and he whined in pleasure as he took Stede’s cock in his hand to guide it into his mouth.
Yeah, this was bliss. Stede’s cock was thick and hot and perfect, and he immediately discovered that the way he could get Stede to groan around his own cock when he pulled back to tease the head with his tongue was fucking delicious. He tried to relax to take Stede down as far as he usually could, but with the pleasure of Stede working him, it was too much, so he wrapped his fist around Stede’s cock, stroking what he couldn’t reach.
Stede pulled off, his voice slurring in the most wonderful way. “Did we decide if we can use hands?”
Ed’s eyes rolled back in his head at the thought, and he gave Stede a pointed stroke with his hand, spreading his thighs as well as he could while laying on his side in invitation.
He had to pull off Stede’s cock when Stede immediately slipped a couple fingers inside his hole, finally making him feel full, giving him a lovely stretched feeling at his rim. He panted, letting his head tip forward against Stede’s hip, leaving messy kisses along Stede’s cock as he tried to hump his face -
“Ed,” Stede laughed, good- natured, patting Ed’s thigh with his free hand. “Need a break?”
“No,” Ed whined, trying to squirm down into Stede’s fingers.
Stede nipped at Ed’s thigh, making him shiver. “Want to admit defeat, then?”
“Never!”
“Then be a good boy,” Stede said, just before returning his perfect mouth to Ed’s cock, “and suck my cock, okay, precious?”
“Mm,” Ed whimpered, and he took Stede back into his mouth.
He closed his eyes, letting the entire world narrow to just Stede’s cock in his mouth and the pleasure between his legs. Stede knew just how to suck Ed’s cock to reduce him to a puddle of boneless pleasure, alternately closing his lips around his rock - hard little cock and, when Ed started to whimper at the feeling, pulling back to lick around it until he was squirming for more, pumping his fingers in his hole at a decadent pace.
Like this, too, Ed could hone in on the more subtle signs of Stede’s pleasure. He could feel Stede’s thighs tremble when he took him deep enough until the head popped into his throat, he could feel the gasp around his cock when he pulled off just far enough to sloppily mouth along the underside of Stede’s dick.
And, honestly, they’d both of them all but forgotten about winning their little game, just drawing out each other’s pleasure and focusing on what made them feel best -
But that didn’t stop Stede, stupid perfect sexy Stede, from getting Ed there first.
Ed had to pull off his cock when it got to be too much, clinging helplessly to Stede’s thighs as he worked him, feeling his cock twitching in Stede’s mouth as the pleasure built. “Fuck, fuck, holy shit, please -”
Stede hummed encouragingly around him, and that was all Ed could take. He bit into the meat of Stede’s thigh as he came, clenching around the fingers inside him, gasping his way through it.
“I win,” Stede announced proudly.
Ed laughed breathlessly. “Shut up, you smug bastard. Want me to finish you off?”
“Hm.” Stede popped up, his chin still wet, and Ed groaned when they kissed and he realized he could taste himself on Stede’s tongue. “I’d like to see your face, actually?”
How was it, that Stede could make Ed come that hard and he still looked so shy when making a request like that?
“Mm, yeah.” Ed pulled Stede down on top of him, loving the way Stede ground his cock against Ed’s pubic mound, his hipbone. “Mark me up, baby, c’mon.”
Ed did not have tits to fuck. He was glad he didn’t have tits to fuck. He’d paid a lot of money so he wouldn’t have tits, for fucking or otherwise.
But, like. Sometimes it was fun to put his hands on his chest, squeezing his pecs together so Stede could straddle him and kinda fuck his chest.
Stede thought so, too, apparently, because it took all of two seconds until he was coming with a cry of Ed’s name, painting Ed’s chest with his come.
And then he collapsed down onto him, pulling him into a sweet kiss. “You’re so fucking perfect.”
“Wow,” Ed pretended to gasp. “I think you’re fucking perfect.”
Stede snorted. “Guess we’re pretty fucking perfect for each other, then, right?”
Damn right.

hansooyung's coloring tutorial & ctiys: alma time! 🍒
hello everyone! though i've been meaning to for a while, i've finally gotten around to making my first manga coloring tutorial! i'll be going over cleaning panels and screentones, choosing base colors, and finally shading and lighting.
this will also be a color this in your style challenge, so if you're willing, feel free to post your colored panel and tag me in it!! i'd love to see all the results :)
find details under the cut! 🦋
DISCLAIMERS:
this is just how i personally color! i know for a fact that some of my other friends follow other methods and have such beautiful colorings <33
for colors specifically, i play around a LOT. if you don't like your color scheme for the time being, mess around with it! i don't use psds since i like to mess around by hand with color palettes, but maybe i'll look into it for the future.
i explain a lot just bear with me gang 🙏
TECHNICAL STUFF:
software: ibis paint x (on iphone). i use ibis since it is FREE for all phones and it worked on my chromebook as well.
while this tutorial is made for ibis paint x, everything works on other softwares except the brushes, which i've provided alternatives for below.
brushes: i will be using dip pen (hard) which is automatically included with ibis, and two other brushes i made myself which you can find here and here. for more brushes, @/bkdkdh was incredibly helpful and posted her awesome set here!
for other softwares, you can use similar brushes. dip pen (hard) can just be the default brush, while wet edges is just the default brush on lowered opacity (and more of a rectangle/marker shape?). watercolor pencil is a watercolor brush in the rectangle/marker shape as well. if you can't get the shape, you can always smudge your lines into shape as well, so don't fret too much! a bunch of people only use one brush for coloring everything (which is insane to me, personally, they are so talented!)
fun fact: the first brush listed that i made was originally called "aki tao watercolor smooth" 👍
ok here we go guys!!
STEP ONE: CLEANING THE PANEL
i think of this part as setting up the panel for coloring! usually it's pretty exhausting cuz it's all b&w but it's all worth it i swear. the panel i'll be coloring is this beautiful one of alma from chapter 2:
Tumblr media
imgur link here (x)
a lot of people redraw their lines to avoid screentones, which is extremely helpful. however, i work on a phone and my fingers are not steady even with the stabilizer turned all the way up T~T. i do it this way, but a different (possibly easier) way may work for you!!!
your first step will be to remove all the white, giving us a transparent background to work with. THIS IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY I USE IBIS PAINT X.
when you upload the image to ibis, a popup comes asking if you would like to "extract line drawing". this creates a lineart of your image. click yes, and your work is like 90% done.
if you're not on ibis, you can redraw your panel, put lineart layer on screen, etc. or you can just extract line drawing from ibis and upload to software of your choice
for those of you not on ibis, i've included the line drawing here (x) if it looks black, don't worry and set your background to white.
omg i was not kidding when i said i explained a lot. ok now onto the three main steps of cleaning the panel:
cleaning background
removing screentones
repainting black lines
for cleaning the background, we're going to clear off all the extraneous stuff. this includes the text in the speech bubble, the gradient screentones behind alma, and the panel line on the left side. just use your eraser tool and go crazy! (i forgot to save the panel at this point of the coloring OTL)
for removing screentones, we're going to remove all those "dots" that mangakas use for shading. these are used to show value for b&w art, but since we're coloring we don't need them—a lot of people have really cool ways of incorporating screentones in their colorings though, and it looks amazing! i used it on nana's hand in my bnha coloring.
remove the screentones from alma's hair and jacket with your eraser tool. this will take time, but it's worth it in the end!
for portions with a bunch of lines, you can create A NEW LAYER and redraw some of the lines. that way, you can erase indiscriminately from the original layer but the lines you drew are still there. again, like i said, my hand is really shaky so i don't do it a lot, but it's extremely helpful for smaller parts where i have control! i used this on alma's jacket, and here's a screenshot of the process:
Tumblr media
(i made his jacket purple so i could distinguish between layers easily).
it should look like this when you're done:
Tumblr media
for the final step of cleaning, i like to erase all the things colored black (the collar and strings of the jacket, along with the back part of his hair). that way, i can color them in with dark colors and it adds to the whole look of the coloring.
i've circled the parts i'm going to erase below:
Tumblr media
and it should look like this when you're done!
Tumblr media
ok everyone cheer we're ready to color now!!!!
STEP TWO: BASE COLORS
CROWD CHEERS ok lets go!
this part is the most important to me, because it sets the tone for the whole coloring. i like to use three-four main colors in my colorings, and it's usually background, skintone, hair, and the secret fourth color. the secret fourth color is usually whatever color fits the character's vibe, or if the character's color is the bg, it'll be an accent color.
for example, with my nagi coloring, i used white for the hair, i had my skintone, i had blue as the main coloring vibe (as nagi's color), and black as the accent color.
for alma, i chose his main color to be red! it's the color of his hair and his jacket, so i wanted it to be vibrant and stand out. since blue contrasts red, i went for a greyish-blue shade for the background. (i went for grey rather than solely blue because then it would clash rather than complement).
disclaimer please please please take your device off night mode warm mode f.lux whatever you have. this has screwed me over more times than you may think :(
i like to make my vibrant colors closer to the right end of the color square. for alma's hair, i chose this color:
Tumblr media
i dragged it down from the corner a bit but kept the saturation since his hair is kind of dark. we can use vibrant colors to shade it though, so don't worry!
here's his hair and the background together:
Tumblr media
now from here, play around with skintones until you find one that matches the hair!
i usually drag around the wheel to the orange-red intersection, and have it on the lighter, more saturated side. here's the color i chose for alma's skintone.
Tumblr media
i thought his original skintone looked a bit too orange, so i pulled the saturation back a little bit (moved closer to the left side of the square).
after that, color in his jacket with a bit darker red than hair, choose a gold color for the accents on his jacket, and color in the black parts with a grey-ish color (we will change that later).
here's the base colors!
Tumblr media
if it looks a bit bright, don't worry! we can change that with shading. or you might just have to. accept the light.
STEP THREE: SHADING AND LIGHTING
wooo we made it!!!!!!! ok now i lied, we have a bit more of base colors to go. on a layer above the skin, color in your teeth and tongue. for pieces that have a more red feel (like this one), i like to make the teeth and the shading a more vibrant blue color. (for blue pieces, i make it a purple!).
IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL SHADING AND ALL COLORS SHOULD BE DONE ON NEW, CLIPPED LAYER.
Tumblr media
i'll then go in and do some light shading with my wet edges brush. i'll use a darker color for hard shadows and then a lighter, more vibrant color to accentuate it.
next up we have blush! a lot of people do this in very different ways but i like to do it directly under the eyes, in a vibrant red shade. make a new layer above the skin and clip it on. color pick alma's hair and drag it to the most saturated shade (red corner). then using the watercolor pencil brush, lower the opacity of the brush and drag a line under the eyes on both sides.
Tumblr media
make sure to erase the portion of blush that goes above the eyeline. i also added some lips for alma as you can see, and then added a red line under the eyes! this was back to the regular dip pen (hard) brush on 100% opacity. it may take a few tries to get your blush to the way you want it, so don't worry too much.
now we can start our actual shading!
i break this part up into three steps: skin shading, blue shading, and light shading (highlights?)
for all of them, think about where the light is falling and how it will look on alma.
quick interlude about brushes: i use the watercolor pencil brush for softer, bouncy looks (like blush and noses) and i use the wet edges brush for more hard lines in shading.
again, make a new layer above the skin and clip it on. (i like to have it below the blush, so it doesn't cover it). for skin shading, i take the vibrant red and lower the opacity of the wet edges brush by a significant amount (specifics don't really matter, as long as you're happy with it). i'll trace his neck, from the shadow of his face, shadows of his hair falling on his face, ears, and nose. (for the nose i used the watercolor pencil brush for a softer look).
Tumblr media
this is what i have once i'm done!
next we have skin shading part two, where we basically make a new layer on top of our first shading, lower the opacity further, and trace outside whatever we just did to blend it in more.
Tumblr media
i used the watercolor pencil brush since it's more softer shading meant for blending! i also added it around the eyebrows for depth.
next up we have our blue shading! this is a technique that i learned from @/bkdkdh's colorings, but adding blue as a shadow really adds to the whole coloring. using the watercolor pencil brush, select a light-ish blue shade (a bit more saturated than background color) and use it to shadow a few more areas than your skin shading. i always make sure to hit the underside of the nose, cuz i think it adds depth!
Tumblr media
finally, to wrap up our skin shading we have our lights. i use an orange-ish yellow color, which i set pretty light to not blend into the skin. using the watercolor pencil brush, i'll basically highlight any areas opposite to where the blue was, and highlight different parts. i always highlight one side of the nose as well.
Tumblr media
i erased the line around the nose since we now have shading there, and added a darker shade to the teeth since i felt it wasn't shaded enough.
now onto the hair!!! (guys we're almost done bear with me, skin and hair are the two main things and then you can half-ass the clothes)
color pick alma's hair color, then drag the red a bit further down to get a darker yet still saturated color. here's mine:
Tumblr media
then, using the wet edges brush, draw lines of shadow wherever clumps of his hair fall or overlap with each other. you can have the opacity set to whatever level you want, i just went with around 90. just try to follow the natural lines and patterns of the original line drawing, and everything should work out fine.
Tumblr media
here's how mine looks! then, just like we did for skin shading, place a layer on top and lower the opacity to around 50%. place some more shading to blend it in. you can also shade more parts with this shade for some softer shading. i actually forgot to take a screenshot of this step but you'll see it in the next one!
for our (almost) last part of hair shading, take a layer and place it below both of your shading layers. this is going to be our highlight layer! you can see it below, labeled 49%.
Tumblr media
remember how we set alma's hair a bit darker from the corner color? now select that corner color and draw highlights in the center of each hair clump.
Tumblr media
lightly visible but it's there!
now here i skipped around a bit bc i was having fun and forgot i was doing a tutorial, but repeat the shading (not highlighting) steps with darker colors for alma's jacket. you should have your base layer, a dark shading, and a softer shading for blending.
we're almost there guys!!!
for the pretty much final step of shading, select a light blue color and do some blue shading with the watercolor pencil brush opposite to wherever your darker shading falls (just like we did on the face). make sure to do it to both your hair and your jacket! here's mine:
Tumblr media
now for the black portions, we're going to color the whole thing in a dark blue color. just alpha lock your layer and make a big stroke of dark blue, almost black. for our black shading, we're actually going to go lighter.
Tumblr media
select a lighter (but still dark) color and place highlights on the base layer, then take an even more vibrant, lighter blue and place it on the very outside for highlights. a better example of this would be nagi's legs in his blue lock uniform here. then, choose a shade to apply shading to the gold accents on alma's jacket and we're done!
Tumblr media
CROWD CHEERS!!!!!
STEP FOUR: FINISHING TOUCHES
Tumblr media
we made it guys!!!! for finishing touches, i'll usually do background effects or text or that kind of stuff.
step one is coloring your lines. you can add a new layer and clip it to your lineart, or simply alpha lock your lineart and color directly on top. for hair i like to add vibrant blue/purple lines, along with a few red ones. for skin lines i try to do dark brownish purples, but leaving some black is good too bc it adds flavor!
i colored in the text boxes and added shadows using the wet edge feature, then added some text. for the glitch effect, i duplicated the lineart, dragged the layer below all of my colors (including speech bubbles) and then used the glitch effect with height full from ibis. if you don't have ibis, you can look into features on your software, or you can also just drag your lineart layer a bit to either side and color it in. i also applied just the tiniest bit of noise on top of everything
and there we go!!!!! we made it to the end :)
if you've read all the way til here, thank you so much! if you decide to color this panel of alma (or any other panels!) don't be afraid to post them and tag me for a color this in your style type of thing! (you can also put it in my tracked tag, #user.roy) i'd love to see everyone's works :)
here's the full timelapse: (it stalls for a bit at some times but hey we can't have everything)

I found an old unfinished Starstudent fic I made
This was around the early phase of Reborn AU where I only had Dogday and I had a vague understanding of what the critters were supposed to act like
And I think this was supposed to be multiple parts, this is probably the first chapter where I was going to make Kickin fall in love with Bubba
And the rest of the chapters consists of him slowly realizing that and gay panicking while Bubba’s being oblivious to all of it as he makes sure his arm heals correctly
Anyways if you want to read it here you go
Kickin x Bubba
All of the smiling critters are currently busy with certain stuff.
Bobby, Picky, Crafty were drawing on paper, making arts and crafts. Well more like Bobby and Crafty are, Picky seems to just be eating her snacks while watching them by the side. Dogday and Hoppy are playing a game involving a ball, no clue what they’re doing with it, they seem to be playing soccer and then it changes to volleyball next. Catnap is somewhere sleeping in a tree.
“Ughh…” and meanwhile Kickin is sitting on the picnic bench as he watches everyone, bored out of his mind.
He planned on playing with Dogday and Hoppy, but it looked like they were focusing really hard on their match, he didn’t want to interrupt a game between stubborn competitors. Guess they probably made a bet with each other or something.
And sure, drawing with the others would be fun, but he didn’t really feel like getting praised by Crafty after he makes a single line, felt somewhat degrading since she knows drawing isn’t his best asset.
So that just leaves either sitting and sulking the rest of the day, or he hangs out with the other critter who’s also alone… Bubba. He was sitting on the other side of the bench, reading something, probably had something to do with math. He hates the random big numbers and symbols Bubba tried to teach him about.. But anything would be better than sitting and moping.
He leaned in to see what Bubba was reading, it had actual words on it so it can’t be that algebratic or something. He scooted a little closer to him to get a closer look, he could see dialogue and names, one of them was talking about a crime scene and suspects, looks like he was reading a mystery novel, Bubba did mention at one point that he reads those during a sleepover at Dogday’s. And it’s a murder mystery no less, he really is as much of a nerd as he thou—
“Do you need something?” Bubba catches the chicken looking over at him, Kickin gets surprised by the sudden noise, almost falling off the bench. He regains his composure and clears his throat.
“Well I’m checking to see if what you’re reading was cool” He crossed his arms and pulled a grin. Bubba deadpanned him as he raised an eyebrow
“I’m bored.” Kickin immediately confessed,
“Why don’t you go hang out with the others then?” He asks, looking back the page he was on.
“Dogday and Hoppy are too busy playing… whatever it is they’re playing over there” Dogday and Hoppy are now for some reason playing tennis with the ball, how did that happen.
“And I’m not down for accidentally cutting my finger with the scissors.” He leaned his arm on the picnic table, Bubba only replied with a ‘hm’ as he continues to look at the book. Kickin pouts before a lightbulb lit up above him, he can prank Bubba! Great idea, he snickers as he backs off slowly and runs off.
Bubba turned as Kickin went to leave, leaving a sigh of relief as he looks back and flipped through the book.
As time passed, Picky walks over to Bubba. He looks up at her and asks what she wants.
“Bobby and Crafty were wondering if you wanted to join their arts and crafts session” she asked,
“No, thanks but I’ll be fine” Picky nodded and trotted back to the others. Bubba looks at the other two, Dogday and Hoppy are now playing baseball… despite the ball not being baseball sized.
“Hey Bubba~!” He looks over at Kickin, who was smiling mischievously with his hands behind his back, what is he planning?
“…Yes?” Bubba hesitantly asked, dreading what the chicken had in store for him.
“I got you a gift!” He revealed his hidden hands to show a wrapped present. Bubba looked at it suspiciously and then looked up at Kickin who just had that shit-eating-grin.
“No thanks.” He looked away and opened a page. Kickin stands there processing for a few seconds before yelling at Bubba.
“Hey why not!?” Kickin went closer to him,
“I know you did something to it, I’m not gonna humiliate myself for your amusement.” He replied.
“I didn’t do anything to it, promise! Just take it, come on, man!” He was shoving the gift onto Bubba’s face, he finally grabs it, irritated.
“Fine fine. Just stop bothering me.” Kickin’s smile came back as he eagerly watched Bubba open it, he hesitantly unwrapped the ribbons and slowly opened the top. He was then greeted with a party popper hitting him in the face with confetti and the likes. He just stands still annoyed as Kickin was laughing beside him.
“You…” Bubba slowly turned his head to glare at him, but Kickin was too busy laughing his innards out.
“Aw man!… You should’ve seen the look on your face..! HAHA!” He continued to laugh as Bubba just groans, but smiling a little as he watches Kickin get so much laughter out.
Until he sees a ball coming straight for them, his eyes widen and before he can warn Kickin to duck, Kickin gets hit in the arm and loses his balance off the bench, falling on the same arm that got hit. After that, the air was met with Kickin’s pained scream that was so loud, it woke Catnap up. The other critters run over to what happened as Bubba was frozen in shock.
“What happened!?” Picky looked around the whole scene, Crafty stood beside her as she held her hooves over her mouth
“Oh my god, are you okay, Kickin!?” Bobby ran over to Kickin in a state of worry and concern, Hoppy was panicking and holding her ears as she avoided glancing at the others.
“We’re so sorry, Kickin! Me and Hoppy were playing chess boxing and—“
“CHESS BOXING???” Dogday was interrupted with Bobby’s confused yelling at how they even managed to incorporate a ball to chess boxing.
“Chess boxing? Did the ball box Kickin?” Picky lightly chuckled before getting elbowed by Crafty and apologizing.
“AGH I’M— I’m.. swell—…!“ Kickin tried to lie through his teeth, not wanting to look uncool. It doesn’t even hurt that bad! (he’s in pure agony)
“Okay okay! It’s okay Kickin! I have a first aid kit back at my house, I’m gonna quickly grab that and run back here—!” Bubba snapped out of his trance and started to reassure Kickin.
“I think it’d be better to just bring him to your house-” Dogday suggested, lightly fidgeting
“Right right!” Bubba shakes his hands to clear out his nervousness.
“Let me help!” Hoppy yelled out as she try to carry Kickin, but ultimately failing and dropping both of them to the ground,
“HOPPY!!” Bubba and Bobby yelled at the bunny whose ears drooped down.
“Are you trying to give him more injuries!?” Bubba shouted,
“I’m sorry! I’m trying here!!” Hoppy apologized profusely to the others and Kickin who was curling on the floor, clutching his arm, muttering that he’s okay which is not being heard due to everything being loud.
“Guys—“ Dogday tried to calm the critters but got covered up by the constant screaming and yelling full of panic. As the canine tried to speak louder, the critters were all shut up by a a purple long tail wrapping around Kickin and lifted up, lavender suddenly surrounding the air. Catnap walks past the other critters, Kickin in tail, as he stands in front of Bubba. The elephant and the feline stared at each other for a solid second before Bubba figured out that Catnap was waiting for him to go to his house.
“Oh! Thank you, Catnap—!” He quickly ran off with Catnap following, leaving the other critters behind.
“…So can you explain to me how you guys used the ball for chess boxing?” the critters all turned to Picky.
“What!? I have to know!” Picky exclaimed.
Kickin sat on the couch with Bubba who was bandaging his arm. Catnap already left, after making sure that Kickin was okay, he walked out the door, leaving the two alone.
“It’ll heal for about a few weeks, but avoid doing anything dangerous that could damage your arm further” Bubba has calmed down from earlier,
“Jeez, now I’m gonna look uncool…” he groaned as he looked at his cast.
“I think I’m more concerned on how Dogday and Hoppy threw the ball so hard that it broke your arm..” Bubba wondered, scratching his chin “Maybe the two times you fell on the ground contributed to the damage—“
“Bubba—“ Kickin interrupted the elephant’s sudden open thought process, his hand on his face with the other grabbing Bubba’s shoulder. He picked up on Kickin being embarrassed of the whole situation, he didn’t understand why but he didn’t want to upset Kickin for today.
“…Well you could have Crafty draw on it to make it look cooler, if you’re that concerned.” Bubba suggested, Kickin places his hand back down and looked at the elephant
“You’re right, She’d definitely make it look cooler!” He lights up, making Bubba smile.
Their moment was interrupted with knocking at the entrance, Bubba got off the couch and walked to the door, he was greeted with Hoppy and Dogday, their ears wilted and they had a worried expression. Dogday was fidgeting with his fingers, avoiding eye contact, and Hoppy was bouncing her leg as she held onto one of her ears.
“Here for Kickin?” Bubba asked, the two lowered their ears further and nodded,
“Go ahead” he moved to the side and the two ran inside, immediately getting on their knees in front of Kickin as they apologized profusely. Bubba just sighed at the sight, chuckling a little before going to the kitchenp.
“Guys guys- It’s all good-“
“But you got hurt because of us…” Dogday looked at Kickin’s bandaged arm, feeling even more guilty.
“Yeah! And you have a habit of lying about how you’re feeling.” Hoppy exclaimed.
“It’s okay, It didn’t even hurt! (he was in pure agony) And I’m all better now, see?” Kickin shows off his bandaged arm.
“Alright” Dogday sighed, “But you should let us make it up to you at least”
“We’ll break our arms for you! Just say the word!” Hoppy shows off her arm while holding on it.
“Haha!… Don’t let us do that—!” Dogday nervously laughs, looking at Kickin with pleading eyes.
“Hm… I’ll think about it” Kickin gives Dogday that smug look, making the canine sweat anxiously with Hoppy looking determined beside him.
“Haha I’m kidding, I’m just joking!” Kickin laughs as Dogday let out a sigh of relief. “Though can you guys tell me what you two were doing earlier? I’ve been wondering what that was“ he asked.
“Oh that? That was uh…” Dogday taps his chin, acting as if he forgot what the point of that was.
“To be honest, I don’t remember why we did all that in the first place.” Hoppy chuckled, scratching the back of her head
“I recall it had something to do with a floating circle guy…”
“…What-?”
And that’s all of it
… I dont know either

Look at my girl's glow up 🤩✨
A little about me, I've been drawing for fun since I was young, and especially drew a lot when I was an undergrad but then I got my first big girl job and it was so much work and responsibility that I didn't have time and pretty much stopped altogether except for a few sketches here and there. I've also noticed that I will get a crazy art burst and then not be stuck in an art block (and they usually last around 2 years) I would try but I was never pleased. The last time I really worked on something that I liked was in 2020 in quarantine and then they forced all us teachers back in person (even though there wasn't a vaccine yet 🙃). Once I started grad school, I only had time to study or practice, but now that I've graduated, I decided a needed a little break from music and start drawing again! Before I had always used Painttool SAI but it wasn't compatible with my surface when I got it years ago so I got Clip Paint Studio and never had time to really explore around it.
I'm so happy to have time to draw again (even though I've been neglecting my bass 😫 but I also just had my graduate recital and was close to getting a practice injury). I try to get a little drawing every day now and I'm so happy with my progress, especially with learning the software and all the cool things it can do.
That first drawing of Serena is so cringe now, but ✨PROGRESS✨I adore this community and have never felt so inspired to art

how did u learn to paint?? like i just cant wrap my head around it
<3 I love answering asks like this!
You will have to bare with me, I don't save many of my studies, and my files aren't that organized so I don't have as many images as I would like.
The studies I've found most helpful for myself personally with painting are various master studies. (This is also, as always, alongside study of fundamentals.) And always follow a study with self-critique (and, if you can get it, outside critique!)
"Master" in this sense means anyone who you want to learn something from.
One way you can do this is by copying an artist's work directly. This is to try and understand some of their stylistic techniques. Leyendecker, Andrew Loomis, and John Singer Sargent are personal favorites of mine! I try to keep these quick, I'm not trying to get an exact copy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also get a lot out of copying photos. In this case, I'm not trying to glean some technique, rather, I'm trying to interpret the photo and explore my own stylizations.
Tumblr media
(photo credit mountain men of alaska )
I also really enjoy taking a painting or piece that already exists, and making it "mine" by putting my characters in it haha, which is sort of a combination of master studies and photo studies!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(William Bruce Ellis - Covent Garden (1930)) (Barberini Faun)
And then, in my work that's not a study at all, I'm informed by all of these!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What master studies do is help me refine my style and practice my technique, but also I'm communicating with artists of the past through my art! They're teaching me! And I have so much to learn.
And of course... most importantly... I paint.
a lot.
I don't do as much study anymore, not because I feel I've learned all I need to, but because for work I draw 50+ drawings a week. 'Drawing for work' and 'study' occupy the same space in my brain and I need some fun drawing time!
So to sum up, draw a lot, reference constantly, and copy the people you want to draw more like!
(and, of course, when doing a study off of someone else's work, always give them credit. If it's your photos there's no need.)

The Sea Prince; Mermay 2024 (+ updates!)
shhhh what do you mean may is almost over-? i made a fun piece and everything!! well. pieces. the first one is a piece i just finished today, and the second is a piece of pearl in her prince form ;> happy mermay!
(i'll be talkin about stuff under the cut, if you just wanna see the art that's a-okay with me! happy to be drawing them again <3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so. uh. mermay pieces <33 i really wanted to draw some majorwood art since ive been on an art high lately (writing for a good chunk of the year so far makes illustrating/designing SO much more fun) and i think it's coming to an end soon, so might as well end it with the darlings <3
also im?? surprised??? i didnt share pearl's art????? uh. oopsies! its tooootally not a spoiler. ;)
anyway! its been a good while since ive made an update post, and i want to keep y'all up to date with how things are going!
important thing to announce; act one has been completed!
me and @mewhoismyself have worked very hard to write and edit the work respectively, and its over 100k+ words! hope y'all enjoy what we have planned, im very proud of act one (in particular those final few chapters, i love rereading them) <33
as for act two, im taking a break to do other things (college mainly, but also commission work and personal hobbies) but im probably getting back to writing soon! currently, act two is on chapter three, as ive decided to rewrite chapters 2-7 in the original doc, so theres a LOT of cut content. all for a good story! i dont really mind it :0c
finally, im opening up betas again!
theres been a LOT of inactivity from most of them and i have a bit of a schedule to keep, so im hoping that a new wave of betas could help with providing feedback and whatnot. i need clear communication! betas help greatly in letting me know how they feel with the current flow, their thoughts, and anything i need to address before publishing the chapter. id hope to get some new folk on board before my friend and i start developing act two more! <3
just send a message in the comments or shoot a dm! im more than happy to reply :D!
that should be it, so i hope you have a good day! i had a LOT of fun working on the pieces above, and im gonna have fun working on act two, you'll just have to wait and see! <33

I want to make a personal PSA post about something I think is important for anyone who follows me for my work:
If you have a deeply rooted issue with Aloy being shipped with men in any capacity, remove yourself from my space. I wholeheartedly ship her with Talanah, but I also equally ship her with Erend. And I see absolutely no issue with other people doing the same with other characters bc from my personal interpretation she is Queer- which does imply she can also be into men. And until GG comes out and explicitly states otherwise, I’m rolling with it. Her sexuality is not being diminished or erased, it’s being explored.
I’m going to be VERY CLEAR in that I’m absolutely NOT HAVING IT when I find out fellow fandom artist friends of mine are being targeted and sent anon death threats bc of their ship. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! We fan artists owe nothing to anyone! Your projected preferences are not something for us to carry around! For most of us, we use these characters as a way to improve our skills because we find them fun to draw. Makes it a lot easier to learn and experiment that way with things we click with. And when you go and shit on an artist for something you don’t like, congrats, you pretty much ruined any chance of them and a lot of other fan artists from drawing something you like. So you are not only depriving the community of new art, you are also depriving other people who maybe share a similar preference to you from getting to enjoy it also. Because we do in fact talk to each other regardless of ship. We need our little artist community to thrive.
And guess what?! I’m a straight woman myself so you might as well toss me in the hetero trash pile if you’re so repulsed by the idea of anyone liking men.

Some things about the frames in No Longer You!
Spoiler warning for the finale!
The first frame of Haley and the last frame of Sherb are different stylistically than the rest of the frames. The majority are in ‘prophecy-land’, which is inspired by a tapestry but it’s really to signify that this is not physically happening. Everyone in prophecy-land is silhouetted, and has one thing/color to help signify who they are. The exception for this is the wack, which is in color, because the wack isn’t something that’s supposed to be there/not from the world of Fable.
Song of past romance: Momboo! They were dating in s1, so she’s there. I chose her pink flowers in her hair. I knew I wanted something pink, and those made the most sense to me and tie into her being Lady of The World.
Sacrifice of Man: Jamie! When Icarus went and (tried to) kill Jamie, it felt the most like a sacrifice. It was the first time that Icarus went out, on their own, to deliberately hurt someone. I chose Jamie’s vines to be the color here, because they feel distinctive.
Portrayals of betrayal: coworkers! I really like this frame. Ari and Ven both betrayed the Grove to work for Fable, and then ended up betraying Fable at the end. And even though they didn’t betray Icarus specifically, he was still alone at the end. Originally, I was planning on using blue for these two because they’re both blue characters, but then it was too much. So I used yellow, which worked for a smaller area and also it’s Fable’s color.
Brothers final stand: This is Rae. This stream is called Brother’s Final Stand. I chose to do Rae’s horns, because they’re something that signify his connection to the End, and they are a distinguishing feature.
On the brink of death: Icarus is dying! And Centross is here. I wanted to include Centross in this, and this frame made that work! He’s got his scar across the eye, because I wanted to do something purple and doing all his scars would not have worked. Icarus has their eyeblood, because that’s how you can identify them. Shoutout to Abby amiactuallydoingthis for helping me figure out how this pose works- they needed to have a clear silhouette and Centross had to be catching Ic, but we needed to see Icarus’ chest.
Draw your final breath: Icarus falling, thinking they’re about to die. We can see the wack, and their wings are shut.
Man who gets to make it home alive, but it’s no longer: Icarixus!!!! Icarixus isn’t the same as Icarus- because at time of singing, Icarus has Sherbert’s eye in their head and is not fully Icarus, while Icarixus has both eyes back. Also, Icarixus has learned so many things- not to trust Fable, about the worlds and the Sherbversions, about how the wack works and how they can help and hurt the other worlds. And they do get to make it home alive, after a bit. They get their glowy bird ears!
You: Icarus not in prophecy-land, but we see the tapestry falling behind them. Their eyes are colored, but nothing else is. Apart from the wack, this is the only time someone gets two colors, and I think that’s fun.
Thanks for reading! I thought a lot about what I put into these frames, so I wanted to share it somewhere.
If you want, check out all of my Fable animatics.

⛧DEATH INCARNATED⛧
Tumblr media
Spent a week or so on this. Honestly it's really good and I love the lore implications.
I'm actually in love with this tbh. It took me so long and I really love it. Quietus is one of my favorite characters of mine, he's fun to draw and my favorite to write. I really want to make more art n stuff relating to his lore and my au I wanted to draw out. I'm happy I made this one at least.
So basically to explain, his younger self is at the bottom. That's Quietus before the genocide of the lambs. Then we have current Quietus, our loveable lamb, resurrected and ascended. And for fun, I included his eldritch form! He may be small, but once in his more powerful form he's an unstoppable force. However he doesn't need a special form to be strong, as he's already very agile and amazing at combat.
So yeah! He's just a silly little lamb y'know. He may seem a little unsettling at first, but he's quite sweet once you get to know him. He likes sewing as much as he loves slaying demons and heretics, but he definitely prefers sewing lol
Anyways I hope y'all like it! Also feel free to ask about my ocs if you'd like! I love talking about my ocs!
