Chapters: 1/3 Fandom: Timeless (TV 2016) Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston, Jiya & Lucy Preston Characters: Future Lucy Preston, Garcia Flynn, Future Jiya (Timeless), Connor Mason, Denise Christopher, Anthony Bruhl Additional Tags: Mentioned Rufus Carlin, Timeless AU, Rittenhouse (Timeless), Time Travel Fix-It, recreating the time team, no wyatt here, Future Fic, Garcia Flynn Deserves Better, Pre-Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston, Soft Garcia Flynn, Endgame Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston, POV Lucy Preston, Lucy Preston's Journal, Badass Lucy Preston, timeless season 1 AU, Mason Industries (Timeless), this isn't sao paulo, ok it is but it isn't, turning timeless on it's head, Sad with a Happy Ending Summary:
Garcia Flynn: “There's a room at Mason Industries, it's in the basement, almost forgotten, but Lucy showed it to me one time. It’s full of documents, photos, letters, all the times that other Lucy's and other Garcia's found each other, some with time travel and Rittenhouse involved, others without any of those elements. It was her way of telling me, of showing me, that we belong together, in every way, in any time and place. There were some common times: 1937, 2014, 1893, 1912, and some common places: São Paulo, Paris, New York, Chicago, Manchester, NJ, and Stanford. Lots of accounts show us meeting in a bar, and the journal is a common theme.” Flynn cleared his throat. “We... we are married in almost all accounts.” At this, Lucy suspected he was blushing, although she couldn’t see him clearly in the dark. “Sometimes there are children, sometimes not. The other Lucy said that we were once one being that became separated, and this was why we always seem drawn to each other.”

Timeless Ask: Did we ever find out why tf Flynn sided with Booth in 1x2 or why he helped the nazis in 1x4? Cause that shits not patriotic. I dont know how you could even believe you're a good guy if you do that.
It's been a while but I think you're definitely onto something. Those early missions where Flynn wasn't part of the team or even really communicating his intentions to them. We can assume that all of his missions were motivated by stopping Rittenhouse, so every action he took was one he thought would help destroy them, even if there were "casualties." But...yeah, the Lincoln one really stands out.
Apparently he wanted to help JWB and his co-conspirators to assassinate all of the people that they had planned to assassinate, even the ones who didn't die in history. And I'm sorry but....why would Flynn do that? Because that sounds like the sort of thing Rittenhouse might have done with the Mothership in S2. Is the show trying to tell me that Abraham Lincoln was a member of Rittenhouse? Because I don't believe that for a moment. (If nothing else, we know they wanted The South to win, based on The General.)
We know Flynn wanted to give Von Braun to the Soviet Union, not to the Nazis. While that's hardly any better, of course, I think his goal was to give the Soviets a leg up in the Cold War because America is and was so entrenched with Rittenhouse. What I don't understand is why they tried to sabotage the Moon Landing. What did that accomplish? Or attacking the Alamo...actually, I think he was trying to stop Texas from becoming a state. Which...not the worst idea, but Rittenhouse would still exist in all 49 other states.
So yeah, the cases that confuse me are the Moon Landing and the Lincoln assassination. If anyone else knows this show and has any speculation, please shoot it my way.

I need to rewatch that episode at some point to fully digest it, as I was watching with my family, but I have a bit of a theory coming out of it. Granted it might also be wishful thinking, since it's kind-of what I would do if I was in RTD's shoes, but hear me out:
Getting another mention of the Timeless Child arc feels very deliberate, despite (again) the new series obstensibly being a jumping on point for new viewers.
The episode is filled with themes regarding being a 'foundling' (that wording from Davina was a VERY deliberate choice - granted it's already floating around in pop-culture a bit with The Mandalorian, but it's also specifically the wording the Master used to describe the Timeless Child), not to mention fostering from the parent's point of view, and ambiguous family relationships (daughter / foster kid etc.).
There's clearly a coincidence parallel there. Indeed we hear as much from Fifteen himself.
"I'm adopted." "Are you?" "Yeah, yeah. I, uh, only found out recently."
Meanwhile we also get this element of the timeline changing, and it completely changing the life and personality of Carla.
And finally, there's the Doctor watching Ruby's birth mother (?) leave despite seemingly being tempted to confront her vs Ruby immediately running off when she realises the Doctor's a time traveller (RTD clearly influencing himself there, given the similarities with Rose's debut).
My guess (and hope, full disclaimer) is that we might get some development of the Doctor's origins to make them a bit more ambiguous beyond the Timeless Child mystery. Ideally via changing timelines as per Unnatural History IMHO, like I mentioned in a recent post.
We've got some hints of RTD thinking this way already, given his reasoning for sharing Doctor Who and the Time War during lockdown:
More importantly, the idea has come of age. This chapter only died because it became, continuity-wise, incorrect. But now, the Thirteenth Doctor has shown us Doctors galore, with infinite possibilities. All Doctors exist. All stories are true.
Tales of the TARDIS also seems to lean quite hard into this, with each past Doctor having aged beyond their regenerations due to the constantly changing time tracks. (This also feels kinda like what he was getting at with his 'all Doctors bigenerated' comment, even if it actually occuring in-universe as it did with Fourteen woud be a disaster.)
Do I think we will get too focused on timelines shifting? ...no not necessarily. But I do think we might see some key themes regarding having multiple families (biological, adopted, fostered, found etc.) and these might get applied directly to the Doctor, with him acknowledging having multiple pasts and multiple families. Like that line from Lungbarrow:
'Goodbye, Lungbarrovians,' he called. 'Don't worry. I don't ask for your forgiveness. Time runs in circles. I have other families!
Granted, a lot of this is pure speculation, but I do think there's clear setup for Ruby and Fifteen to be foils to each other going forward, which may indicate similar arcs, even if they don't necessarily unfold at the same time.
However there is one big thing that really might just link it together for me..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way the family changes as the timelines change. The way Carla's relationship with her foster children changes too. The difference in the number of photos.
This last bit is particulary interesting, because it has two possible subtextual meanings in my head. Let's assume the theory is right, everything involving Ruby is meant to foreshadow the Doctor's own multiple pasts and multiple families.
Does the number of photos represent the size of his family (eg. 45 cousins in a House vs a handful of siblings and stepsiblings)?
"You've got the biggest family in the world." "I have. What about you?" "Uh... I've got no one."
(Although it is worth noting that this is also exactly what Sarah Jane said to Ten about the companions in Journeys End. I'm not how, or if, this is meaningful, but I figured I'd note it.)
Or... and this is a stretch of a stretch... could it represent the number of incarnations the Doctor has had in each timetrack?
"All those lives... you fostered thirty-three." "How many? Not me, darling. Don't be so stupid."
There's not that much to go off yet, so a lot of this may be well off what actually happens, but on a thematic level at least, I do very much think Ruby and the Doctor will continue to be foils to eachother regarding their relationships with their families and trying to find their 'true origin'.

Here is my subjective ranking of all the costume trailers iQIYI released (since I didn’t watch moderns or republican stuff they posted) note - not only is it subjective, it is just the trailers which often does not correlate with either quality of or my interest in the drama itself.
11 Go East - I am vvvv fond of Tan Jianci but this was the only trailer that bored me. It wasn’t bad, it just gave me NO hook of any kind. It’s a pity since this was one of the very few historical trailers (as opposed to wuxia, xianxia etc) and I love those. This said, trailers and dramas often don’t correlate so I hope the drama is good.
10 Reborn for Love - half this trailer is cutesy hijinks and I am just not wired for that. By the time the trailer was halfway over, I found myself thinking that if it wasn’t for leads, I’d not check it out. But the back half has blood and romance and I sat up and paid attention.
9 Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact - I wanted to be more excited for this than I was. I love the cast. But even in comparison with the trailers for the other two entries in the series it looks…generic. I don’t truly get the vibe or the story. It’s nice but doesn’t grab me.
8 Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Sword and Beloved - it’s gorgeous and intense and screams fantasy romance and Cheng Yi fighting and bleeding. Pay your taxes, everyone!
7 Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Love in Pavillion - the visuals, the vibe, the angsty love feel, the colors! That trailer was my fave out of Fox ones. I need this drama now!
6 Strange Tales of Liao Zhai 2 - I haven’t seen s1 and mysteries (even supernatural ones) aren’t my thing. But the visuals in that trailer are insane and I spy with my little eye Yang Xuwen as one of two mains and the man owns my heart for Eternal Brotherhood and he brings his young Hu Ge vibes here too!
5 Win or Die - this baby is apparently only 18 eps and is all war war war but it’s a Cao Dun drama so the visuals are eye popping. It’s just stunning to look at tbh and sometimes (a lot of times), I want a grim war epic.
4 The Legend of Rosy Clouds - this trailer just grabbed me for some reason - it really makes you want to watch these people. It’s not visually amazing compared to the rest but it’s just dragging me in. In fact, while this isn’t my favorite trailer, out of all the dramas they promoed, this is the one I want to actually watch the most. I used to love the anime so maybe that’s why?
3 Snowy Night: Timeless Love - all the snow and the longing and the battles and we all know we will see red blood on that pristine white soon enough.
2 Love of the Divine Tree - it’s very very pretty and has so much shipping and angst and I have a huge 17 hangover so seeing Deng Wei with similar vibes is sending me. Honestly, my fantasy romance junkie is thirsting.
1 Fangs of Fortune - if someone told me a trailer for a drama full of actors I don’t care for would be my favorite, I’d not have believed it but here we are. This is fantasy and visuals and hooking you done right. I need this NOW!
ETA; I forgot follow your heart OMG! That’s my most fave except for Fangs of Fortune!
ETA2: and A Moment But Forever - I would rank it just behind snowy love.

so, do we think Sparrow gets timeless body and outlives Lark..or do we think Henry is the only Oak left after a few decades
because on one hand Sparrow outliving Lark as well as Rebecca, Normal, and Hero pains me, but Henry being the only one left out of the s1-s2 families also pains me

I like the development of Seven's implants from Voyager to Picard:
Tumblr media
Even though in the scene in Tsukantse it's been 3 years since she left the Borg, the skin around the implant on her right arm looks like it's still taking time to heal.
Tumblr media
20 years later it's healed over, you can still the Borg implants there but it's much less prominent.
But also thanks to Picard S1 we can see how much the Borg implants were fused into her body.
One of the more disturbing parts of Timeless episode of Voyager was when EMH!Doctor cut in half Seven's head and we see that Seven's left side is completely made of metal.
(Warning for the disturbing image below)
Tumblr media
Technically, Seven doesn't need a comms unit to communicate with people, there's a communication thing right in her head. But also it's very disturbing to see Seven like this. It saved Seven and the crew of Voyager's life but man, its still disturbing.
I forget sometimes a half of Seven is cybernetics.
Tumblr media
And Seven's left eye is a cybernetic prosthetic eye. Her heart also has implants; Root (Person of Interest) would be so jealous.
But also, oof, the Borg just took out part of Seven's skull and we don't even know what age they started with her.
Rewatching Scorpion 2 and The Gift also re-affirms how different she is from the other former drones we encountered because so far as we know Seven was the only one we're introduced to who grew up in the Borg and knew nothing beyond it until Janeway cut Seven off from the Borg.
I can see how a paranoid, fresh from Dominion War Starfleet would regard Seven with both paranoia and suspicion and refuse her entry into their ranks despite years of service on Voyager.

So it's clear Doctor Who doesn't really know what to do with Gallifrey, but what I wanted to ask was - do you think the reboot should've destroyed it in the first place? Like don't get me wrong, I love S1 and Christopher Eccleston is one of my favourite doctors and it's all brilliantly acted and it works...but would you, if you'd been in charge of bringing the show back, have wiped out Gallifrey as a narrative choice?
That's a tricky question, because would I have done it? No, I don't think so. But RTD uses it very effectively to create drama, and so I don't think it was a mistake either. It worked for the story he was telling.
But imo bringing it back for the 50th was also a good choice, which for me personally doesn't diminish the weight of the RTD era, because it's not just a reset that ignores what came before - it's precisely because of the Doctor's experiences post-Time War and dealing with the emotional fallout of the choice he made that he can now find a way to make a different choice. (Meanwhile, destroying it again in S12 does feel like a reset back to the status quo of the RTD era, in a way that undercuts not only the emotional significance of that story, as the Doctor isn't the one responsible this time and Gallifrey isn't even her home planet anymore, but also its own story because the Timeless Child plot is far more interesting if the Time Lords are alive for the Doctor to confront.)
So I guess in summary I'm fine with the first destruction of Gallifrey, hate the second one, and I really wish someone would come along who knows how to utilise the Time Lords properly, because they have a ton of narrative potential that New Who has largely ignored.

thoughts while rewatching the pilot:
(happy 30th bday x-files 👽🛸)
scully is smiling and being adorable walking through the hoover building. guys, she is so happy about this new assigment.
i think it's so cute that both of them know each other beforehand - scully knows "spooky mulder" who caught monty props and mulder has read her senior thesis. they haven't even met and they're already obsessed with one another.
scully is literally smiling the whole time sparring with mulder in the basement. she was definitely unfulfilled teaching at the academy and has finally found someone just as smart as she is!
mulder is trying to be a jackass but not really succeeding bc he's so enamored by his new partner.
those plane seats look so big and comfy. what happened in the last 30 years?
scullys says "i don’t know, i’ve never had the pleasure" when mulder asks if she's ever exhumed a body. i think she may be speaking literally...(she's a weirdo at heart)
at the cemetery, mulder and scully are SO snarky to dr. nemmins - "we're not insinating anything sir" and "guy obviously needed a longer vacation" -- they are already best friends excluding the other kids at recess.
i've seen the pilot a bunch of times and finally got the steven spielberg joke (it's a reference to ET). i'm dumb ok.
it's been said before, but this pilot is so good. i recently watched the first episode of another procedural and it was pretty lackluster, especially compared to the x files. mulder and scully are interesing characters on their own, their chemistry is outstanding right off the bat, and the storyline of the episode is engaging.
i love how many great scenes we get between mulder and scully -- their initial meeting, the mosquito bite/motel scene, the cemetery rain scene. all of them develop the characters and their relationship in creative ways. we learn about mulder's sister and his mission and we see scully become invested in the x files even during their first case.
seeing my precious baby agents always makes me happy, especially when they are innocent in s1 so the pilot is always an enjoyable rewatch.
while i haven't been a fan for 30 years, i can definitely see myself enjoying this show for the next 30. it's timeless and i'm so so excited to see new fans enjoying my favorite tv show.

was looking at some very old posts of mine and i just. when i finished s2 of ted lasso i was certain that a) ted would be going back to kansas and that b) ted and rebecca would not end up together on our screens. and i didn't have a problem with either of those things bc i was certain they'd be done with the same thoughtfulness that was present in s1 and most of s2. and i ended up being right about both things but so totally wrong about the execution of both??? yeah okay i hear you there was a three season arc, there was a plan, but wrt s3 you cannot convince me that plan consisted of anything that happened outside of "ted goes home". and even that decision felt shoved to the wayside.
i was dead certain that teds decision to go back was going to be informed by a deep exploration of ted and his past and his trauma and how the loss of his dad affects his own sense of fatherhood, that it was going to be ted's season entirely and would be as heart wrenching and uplifting as the rest of his story — so much so that by the time he decided he needed to go back, that we'd all be so on board. we'd all feel "oh of course he has to go back, look how much henry needs him and how much ted needs henry, how deep his fear of not being there for his son goes". why didn't we get that why did ted feel like a supporting character in his own show in his own SEASON why didn't the deeply traumatic event that informs almost all of ted as a character ever come up when it's so relevant to all of this why!!!! i need a 30 page essay from each of the ted lasso writers and a week long conference with js to explain it to me like im 5!!!!! am I stupid!!!
right anyway
when it comes to ted and rebecca i have less gripes but still am so baffled at the number of parallels drawn and connections made and support given to say "yes they're kind of intrinsically tied" for ZERO acknowledgement of it? which brings me back to the first point because that journey for ted could've leant itself so nicely to rebecca returning the kind of support to ted that he gave her? which in turn could've added a lovely extra layer to rebecca's story by seeing her find additional comfort and confidence in her own ability to support someone else and give love? it all could've woven together so neatly?? like??? am i stupid????? whether they ever hit the romance threshold or not (setting aside the fact of just how many and how often they tried to invoke rom coms but went "oh ew romance? no" when given a perfect opportunity to say something timeless but refreshing about second chance loves) continuing to see them grow together the way they had already accentuated through the whole rest of the show would've been more than enough for me personally. even if there was a heartbreaking parting it would've felt......earned? it would've felt right? just as fair to the viewer after absorbing all these things as it was to the story?
anyway......i feel like I'm missing something every time I think about it

you may have seen my previous theory on wtf is going on with john doe malevolent, but i have more proof this time to show for my hypothesis!
in episode one, we first hear someone turning on a radio, presumably in a car, listening to “You call it madness (but I call it love)” by Russ Columbo (not the 1946 version by nat king cole trio we all put in playlists lol), then arthur gain consciousness
afterwards, they are in bookstore when a radio starts playing the song again, the entity doesn’t see the radio, but he does recognise the song
Tumblr media
both arthur and the entity recognise this is odd, since atp the entity had only been in arthur’s body for 20 odd minutes
but, if you’re caught up, you’ll recognise that this is moment directly parallels a scene in part 33
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this, however is not the only time something like this happens. in part 5, john uses a turn of phrase
Tumblr media
this moment is soon after arthur’s month-long coma, so unless lily had been reading robert frost to arthur (which john would’ve most certainly mentioned when arthur brought it up), he shouldnt have any way of knowing this sentence.
the first time we hear the poem in full is in part 26
Tumblr media
but even still, in the context of the moment, why does john know this poem? he’s had no moment since he came back to learn anything of the sort, even ignoring the time it’d take to memorise something like this.
before this, there are only two instances of 'miles to go before i sleep' appearing, once at the end of part 17 and just before arthur leaps of the edge in part 23
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so now, my answer to all these questions is a bit weird.
in part 1, the entity says as follows regarding time in other worlds and the dark world as being timeless
Tumblr media
which initially led me to reach the idea that john's forgetfulness in part 33 has to do with the time he spent away from arthur in s3, which he claims he does not remember.
i think he was actually sent back to the dark world and spent an indefinite time there, since there is none, causing him to forget finer details. but that raises leaves many questions unanswered, like why did the entity know the song before ever being with arthur?
i think it's time fuckery. the entity we see in part one could be some sort of future!john, at some point he could be sent back to the dark world indefinitely once more, than brought back via the book at a different moment in time that from which he left, the past.
this theory makes a lot of leaps, but it also gives reason to why john already knows call it madness and miles to go, i believe he might use both of these as some sort of anchor to not go mad himself in the dark world, thought he does end up losing parts of himself and of arthur. still, he isnt completely gone, which is why he's eventually capable of becoming john again
it also kind of explains the first sentence the entity ever says in the show
Tumblr media
of course, on your first listen you assume he means what happened to arthur a few moments prior, but with the context of a timeloop, he could be referring to the whole shows events, even what we havent seen
later, when john says he doesn't remember who he is either, and arthur says
Tumblr media
i understand that the entity knowing what he is might help them both, but it's still a weird thing to say. arthur has just woken up with a corpse and voice in his head, and acts like it's not his first time doing this? i'm not saying he'd remember, but it would make more sense if he was partially amnesiac to the future/past loops like the entity/john
also, i think it's important to distinguish the entity and john, the former being an amnesiac john who has only the potential to become john, but could just as easily become yellow.
last point is, obviously, also a massive stretch.
in part 9, after their first consequential argument (as in it nearly gets them imprisoned), arthur tells this fable to john
Tumblr media
which yeah, could be foreshadowing john being the king in yellow in the s1 finale, but. it wouldn't make much sense since john doesn't permanently get him and arthur killed?
i think it goes like this, if it lines up with my theory.
john starts forgetting about the dark world, starts getting dicier and riskier with his and arthur's choices, whether it be about his deal with kayne or other future lies, but he pushes and he keeps pushing until both he and arthur meet their end. at some point, he gets himself sent back to the dark world and arthur killed/otherwise indefinitely unavailable, and as he does, he says "it is in my nature", so the last thing he tell arthur isnt sorry, but an excuse. perhaps they end on bad terms, after all he's promised to not let him drown.
he is left there to rot in his misery with only faint memories of his new self (significant moments, like him telling arthur the poem) and after he starts forgetting, a long time for a place with no time, he is pulled into the book in the past, eventually reaching arthur again. he might recognise arthur's voice, but he might not remember enough at this point, having turned back into the entity, no longer being john.
but hey. this is based on my relisten of s1 and little else. i love stretching the canon to make it make sense lmao
edit 05/12/23 — further proof i only now noticed in episode 30 “The Tenant”

✨rating pedro pascal characters based on nothing but costuming (non-exhaustive)✨
considerations:
*real housewives voice* thats my OPINION!!! also subject to change upon reflection, just going off my current feelings.
not really discussing whether the costuming is good or bad for character, context, or source material but just how much I like them if that makes sense.
some of these costume designers knocked it out of the park but would I be a little grumpy if I went on a date and they showed up in a walmart denim button up and ripped their $300+ jacket to shreds? Yes. Was that costume absolutely perfect for Joel? Yes again.
Mostly discussing costuming in context modern/21st century settings. The Mandalorian+GOT+ etc. in part two?
Minimal discussion on hair+cosmetics, only really when it applies to the whole look
Javier Gutierrez: The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Rating: 10/10

Comments:
They did not have to go so crazy on these outfits!!!
Why does one of my favorite looks apparently not even appear in the movie!?
every look is so *chefs kiss*
I feel like mustard yellow is such a good color on him.
Like call up those people on tik tok who make nonsensical categories like “strong winter” “ambivalent fall” and find out why mustard yellow always works.
The palette is a cute mix of like warm bricky colors like red, brown, mustard yellow mixed with baby blue and eggshell white. its actually perfect.
What really makes him stand out is the fact he accessorizes.
Lots of men don't accessorize because they don’t think its important - they couldn’t be more wrong.
It’s one of the many injustices of the world that a man’s outfit looks 10x better by adding one necklace or in this case- pinky ring.
Do I like the sunglasses? No. But I like that they are there.
Obligatory hair mention: The hair looks great. With longer hair becomes more responsibility, ie sometimes the part is a little too deep making the front pieces have a combover look. This is only when its messy though so that may have been the point?
If I included every outfit I liked it would just be a slideshow of the whole movie so I picked my favorites

Javier Peña: Narcos

Can you tell I like 70s inspos?
Its unique but true to someone who grew up in RGV and now on his own
ie good luck getting him out of boots. you can’t do it
When he dresses up in s1+2, damn i love a tan suit!
Its very formulaic, but not to the extent that it looks like he bought 7 colors of the exact same shirt. He’s pretty much always wearing a short sleeve button up and fitted jeans. which makes the times he isn’t stand out
ie the tan suit. what can i say i am an american who is up to date on politics i always defend a tan suit when i see one
also occasionally breaks out this like tan vest situation?
I think it’s a good balance between like clearly not being inspired by like their “current day” but not so 70s that it would be odd. It’s kinda timeless.
He tends to follow one of my outfits rules: max 3 colors
Rules are meant to be broken obvi
But I do feel like as a general rule of thumb and since he doesn’t wear a ton of patterns, wearing more than three colors starts to make an outfit look random and not put together
For Javi, this usually means
color 1: *shirt color*
color 2: pants (pretty much just blue or black, he does throw in some brown pants)
color 3: brown (pretty exclusively wears brown belts/shoes)
Short note on hair/grooming: I love how season 1 has some more length in the back and generally has a shaggy sort of look? By season 3 his hair is more cropped probably bc of his new role.
Something about the extra length in the back makes him look young- not in the sense of like actual age but maybe looking more hopeful or green, even when dressed up
Also every so often you can see when they mess up the stick on sideburns. It tickles me.
He’s a menace to society. And he knows it
Tumblr media
Pietro Alvarez: If Beale Street Could Talk
Rating:  8/10
Crew:
Caroline Eselin (Caroline Eselin-Schaefer): Costume Designer see also: Moonlight (2016), Father of the Bride, Troop Zero, The Underground Railroad
full cast and crew
Comments:
We don’t see much and what we see! Is so good
This deep deep red is very nice and I like that is a monochromatic look (I don’t think we see his pants in the movie but collecting pics for this I saw the pants are the same color)
It also has my favorite type of collar- that extra pointy extra long collar.
And he *drum rolls* accessorized! Its only a necklace but the choice to have it OVER the shirt, over an already perfectly monochrome outfit makes it pop
The things that bring it a little down for me is, well, there is only one scene to work with so it feels wrong to rank higher than projects with multiple outfits, and the grooming
The mustache didn’t have to be so thin.
Hair wise I don’t understand why we always have to exaggerate the side burns to achieve the “deep sideburn” look.
I feel like we could still make the hair look “of the time” by taking some of the weight from the sides and leaving it up top and working with his natural side burns (even if that means making them darker, just not necessarily longer)
Even though I get the hair of the time was very um... spherical
side note: everyone in this movie is dressed spectacularly. I am appreciating through the tears in my eyes

Have I watched in full? Maybe a few years ago? I remember the first one quite clearly bc the water filling up the bedroom scene YIKES!
The snowsuit is so good. It’s functional, it’s sassy. It has one of my favorite western top details I don’t know the name of but the little patch details on the front of the shoulders.
Who’s idea was it for the belt buckle to be a FLASK!!! thats gold
I love a color SCHEME!!!
brown leather deserves love
The rain boots- a practical choice in the middle of like the least practical movie ever? Leave him in cowboy boots you cowards
Like oh the grounds might get muddy he needs rain boots. His belt buckle was a flask guys be real

Have I watched in full? No. I caught a few episodes it was when it was airing but I don’t think i could tell you a single plot line
(there is a LOT of FBI Department of Pseudo Psychology shows ok)
I do remember in one of his early eps they use the murder house from Nightcrawlers.
*Abby Lee voice* you didn’t stick out to me
Very government employee of you to wear ill fitting suits
Not to be irrational but v-neck t shirts don’t rub me the right way.
This is a completely personal ick that I don’t expect anyone else to agree with.
I just ~~ just do a crew neck you know?
Maybe WHY I don’t like it is because its very 2010-2014.
Which, in Marcus’ defense, just makes v-neck t-shirts something of the time
Does nothing crazy with his suits, but nothing that makes me cover my eyes either

Joel we get it you are nOT like other girls
It makes sense for who he is.
And who he is is someone who is not thinking about how much cunt he is going to serve with his outfit that day.
unFORTUNATELY.
His pants ARE suspiciously fitted. Not so utilitarian when it comes to pants are you Joel?
But! I love the big coat. Could live in the big coat. The big coat deserves an award
The best part of the big coat is the main defense against the simplicity of Joel’s outfits are “oh it’s the apocalypse” or “oh he’s not thinking about that”
Really? bc this is a SHEARLING lined coat. Do you know how quickly those fluffy shearling/sherpa etc. liners start to look like shit? if its a real shearling lining (the one he uses is real) you need to avoid getting it wet and store in dry areas.
I am not even talking about price here! Because I have already explained why I think its not that weird to have people wearing expensive clothes 20 years into the apocalypse.
Its the utility of having a shearling lined coat when you don’t have a closet full of DampRids
No way he had it in Boston since they only travel with regular sized backpacks. He saw it, liked it, wanted it, got it.
He got that coat for the cunt of it all, you can’t convince me otherwise.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for coming on this ride with me it was a fun exercise to look at just the clothes and not my feelings toward the character/movie/show.
Who should I do next time? I have plenty of more thoughts hehe

Aziraphale didn’t want to go to heaven, not even to “make it a better place if I’m in charge”, not until he was told he could restore Crowley.
Because restoring Crowley to angelic status seems to him, is to him a perfect solution for the problems they seem to have, together: their opposing sides, status of natural enemies, their shared loneliness of being outsiders in their worlds. They can be friends, anything, if Crowley is an angel. He won’t have to push down his goodness in fear of hell (although honestly I think Crowley’s aversion to being “good” is much more than that), and angels won’t have to be cruel, since Aziraphale would be there, making decisions, with Crowley by his side to help him figure out what is truly better and kinder (like he does throughout the season).
To Crowley however being restored to an angel is missing the point entirely. It’s like being given forgiveness when you are owed an apology. If they give you “forgiveness” you are just brought back in until they decide you should be cast away again, when you become too inconvenient, when you demand to be heard, to be treated right. Of course he doesn’t want to go back to heaven — the whole system is his personal hell, more than actual hell ever was.
Just as when Crowley feels betrayed when Aziraphale offers him to go back, so does Azi when Crowley asks him to run off, to continue as things are. To Aziraphale (as of right now) there can be no peaceful happiness for them while they remain as they are. They will always be an angel and a demon, pretending, hiding, struggling to survive one disaster after the other. They can change all that, he feels, he offers Crowley peace, safety, and Crowley refuses it to (seemingly) keep things as they are.
That’s what his “nothing lasts forever is about”. He offers a reprieve and Crowley refuses it. While to Crowley he is throwing away “them” to drag him back to the broken system he knows from experience will only chew them up and destroy everything, in the end.
“I don’t think you understand what I’m offering you,” is the line that hits me the hardest, somehow. Because Crowley indeed doesn’t. He is right about understanding better than Aziraphale could about what it would truly be like. But he doesn’t understand the intent, the offer: be with me, without hiding, without fear, working for the betterment of everything as you used to, as we’ve been doing in secret last 6000 years.
“No nightingales”, oh how Aziraphale face changes at that. Because for them, finally, here, Crowley made subtext text. Yes, they are, were in love. Yes, they had their perfect pocket of a starry night, falling in love. But now the sun is up, and the nightingale isn’t there, maybe even wasn’t here ever. It was just a perfect dream, given up now. For Aziraphale — given up as he offered Crowley to make it a daylight reality, a partnership not on the spy benches, or in an old timeless bookshop, or in the private conversations. A reality where Crowley doesn’t have to hide his eyes all the time.
For Crowley — the dream is given up, because once again Aziraphale is choosing heaven over him. He doesn’t know he’s doing it for him.
So of course the kiss doesn’t save them. They both feel rejected, feel like the one is trying to drag another into a tortured existence. I still struggle to decipher the “I forgive you”. An obvious nod to s1, and to general Christian forgiveness. Does he forgive the fall, the rejection, no nightingales? The fight? As many people said, it’s generally Aziraphale’s “holier than thou” attitude, and there is a bit of it here, some spite as he collects himself. “I know what’s better for us and I forgive you for not realizing it. I forgive you for leaving me alone (in our shared loneliness) to make a better world for us.” Maybe it’s that.
I honestly don’t think one honest conversation could fix things right now for them. They need to change. Crowley needs to grow over his cynicism, to figure out a way to exist in the world so unfair he refuses to acknowledge he is constantly changing it for the better. He needs to stand his ground in a sustainable way.
While Aziraphale needs to realize the current system won’t cut it. It’s cruel and uncaring, it’s following the supposed word and whim of a god who’s left the building. He honestly believes it just needs right people on top, but well, it had Gabriel who cared just for a little bit, and threw him away instantly. Heaven won’t cut it, and this is gonna burn him badly next season. But he’s still not there.
Anyway, I love good conflict, god bless this tragic clown mess, thanks for the gorgeous drama. Nice gays, sorry about depression.
