"You're so pretty," Yuri says softly as he sets his makeup brush down on the countertop, smiling. "Here, try these on." He goes through his closet and finds a pair of red high heels that surprisingly fit Demetria. "What do you think?"

Demetria stares at herself in the mirror. Her hair is still short and pretty and blond, and she hopes to grow it out long and pretty like Yuri's. She feels her heart racing as she looks closer into the mirror. Yuri is delicate when applying makeup; Demetria looks and even feels pretty for a change.

But what will Felix think? In actuality, Felix doesn't know. And all this time, Felix thought he'd been dating a guy. He never explicitly stated whether he was gay or not, but often says he "doesn't care about gender" as long as his partner can defeat him in battle.

"Do you have a different dress?" Demetria asks quietly, still getting used to the makeup on her face.

"I do, yeah," says Yuri as he enters his closet again, sorting through all of the dresses in Constance's collection. "I think you'd look pretty in purple, princess."

Demetria smiles shyly as Yuri takes out a beautiful purple sundress with flower embodiments stitched along the hem. And it fits someone as tall as Demetria, thankfully. Yuri helps Demetria out of her school clothes and into the dress.

"Oh, I have matching thongs too," Yuri quickly realises. "We can switch the heels out for those?"

"I think that's okay," says Demetria. She can only hope that Felix also thinks it's okay. "Do you think Felix will–"

"Don't worry about him," Yuri waves off Demetria's concerns. "Because I'm taking you out instead."

"What?"

"You heard me," Yuri smirks. "I'm taking you out on the town. You're the princess of Faerghus, after all."

Princess... it's going to take a lot of getting used to. It makes Demetria's heart flutter. Yuri continues, "And if anyone gives you a hard time, they'll wake up with a knife up their ass."

Demetria chuckles softly, smoothing out her dress. "Well... I'll come along. But then I have to meet Felix in the dining hall."

Yuri almost looks disappointed, but hides it very well behind his charming smile. "Not a problem. If you need anything else, just let me know, princess."

...Is Edelgard being written in a male gaze-y way a hot take...? Like, look at her cipher cards. She's very clearly filling a "cute girl who calls me teacher" need. Like, play CF with M!Byleth and I guarantee Edeleth starts looking grosser and worse.

They have no comment to those Cipher cards, or the boobs-and-butt pose in the Premium Arrange II artwork, or the various modifications to her designs in Heroes alts (boob armor, a more human-looking Hegemon), and whenever they talk about AG it's always how she's a poor tortured trauma victim...whereas if you stop looking at her as a real person with real trauma and start looking at her as a collection of graphical and voice assets then everything that happens to her in AG is blatant fetish fuel. She even has a brief panty/underwear shot in the final cutscene! Male FE characters are never framed that way, even when placed in similar circumstances; contrast, say, Lyon in Sacred Stones or Takumi in Conquest.

I do think there's a lot of hostility to this reading though, because it exposes the reality that Edelgard was always designed to appeal to straight men, with F/F Edeleth as an incidental byproduct of the writers not wanting to bother with writing two different scripts for certain story scenes. For straight male Edelstans it's undercutting all their Very Serious walls of text by calling them horny - and worse, just as horny as they accuse Dimitri's (female) fans of being, the horror! On the other hand, well...

I'm going to have to word this very carefully, because I can absolutely see someone screencapping this out of context to call me a transphobe, but I have noticed that a fair number of the lesbian Edelstans active on Tumblr are specifically trans lesbians. I find this noteworthy, as trans lesbians are still partially within the designated demographic for Edelgard's sexual appeal in that they are also AMAB people (whom the male gaze is designed around) who are attracted to women. As such, they're more likely to be aware of how the games write and frame Edelgard as a sexual object for the player, and thus resent when people suggest that straight men are the intended recipients of her in that way because on some level they understand that too. It's easy for someone like me to take note of this because I also have a unique relationship with the male gaze, being AMAB but not attracted to women. I'm therefore aware when a piece of media is trying to tell me that I should find a female character attractive...but I'm not feeling anything. Quite a few Edeleth scenes feel this way, and that goes for both genders of Byleth equally. Edelgard may appeal to some queer women, but she was not designed for queer women, and as a queer person I cannot call her good representation.

Note that that's not even commenting upon her politics or her morality or anything like that; it's purely an observation based on her role in Houses's Avatar dating sim - and its weird extension into Hopes, where she's still inexplicably drawn to Byleth and is only the leader whose ending changes (for the better, naturally) if you recruit Byleth.

Sexuality Headcanon: Well, she's canonically bi. I do think she has a pretty strong leaning towards girls, though. Gender Headcanon: Cis woman. I could go on about how I think her story is a trans narrative and her dysmorphia is a huge trans mood - buuut at the end of the day I do think she's cis. A ship I have with said character: Edelgard is my shipping bicycle. I ship her to some minor extent with nearly every female character in FE3H (including Kronya but maybe not Cornelia) and a select few of the boys. Edeleth, Edelthea and Petragard all take up a similar amount of space in my brain. A BROTP I have with said character: Hubert and Edelgard are such a hot mess as far as friends go and I love them dearly. The way that Hubert is willing to do anything for Edelgard, even things Edelgard explicitly does not want him to do. It's very good. Also, I think Dimitri and Edelgard's relationship has a lot of potential that was kind of unexplored in the game since we only get Dimitri's perspective on it. A NOTP I have with said character: M!Edeleth takes a dynamic that I really love and turns it into the most sexist shit imaginable lmao. Beyond that... I'm not crazy about Claude/Edelgard. Don't really know why. That might change after I play Three Hopes. A random headcanon: After the war with both Those Who Slither and The Church concluded, Edelgard adopted several cats, all of which the rest of the Black Eagles (except Ferdinand) agree are the ugliest cats imaginable but she is convinced they're beautiful. General Opinion over said character: Best girl, love of my life, did absolutely nothing wrong in her life. She's both a girlboss and the lamest failgirl I have ever seen in my life. I like the contrast between embracing her place as a villain/antichrist after feeling as if the stories she grew up on about the Goddess and the saints are all full of lies, while simultaneously hoping that she could have a happy ending and make the world into something kind. She's a stone cold bitch and a hopeless romantic, and I love her.

In honor of Pride month, which of your characters are LGBTQIA+?

Okay, answering that...

Okay, first of all, ALL MY DRAGONS are both Intersex and Pansexual. But, on the eyes of the onlookers there's terms used in Astreia called 'perceived sex', 'preferred appearance' and 'preferred role', the first referring to what sex they seem to be when in human form (often "male", "female" or just "dragon"), and the second referring if they have a specific preference for one sex over the other when picking human lovers. The third is something only for dragons as they can prefer to be egg seeders, egg carriers or both (ambivalent).

Saying that you are percieved as a gender is different than identifying as that gender. Most dragons don't identify themselves as male or female nor care what pronouns people use for them. The term perceived means this is how people see them according to how the dragon chooses to dress, speak or appear, not truly caring if they're treated as male or female.

But let's talk about my characters:

Imortal

Mal - Pansexual, intersex, but perceived as male because it gives him advantages.

Arlo - Intersex, perceived as male. Has a preference for male sex and masculine builds, due to his sexual trauma (yes, some people, when they suffer sexual trauma, instead of growing an aversion towards the sex that caused it, they gain an attraction, sometimes almost to unhealthy levels);

Apollo - Intersex, but identifies as male;

Syra - Intersex, but identifies as female.

Alcina - Intersex, identifies as female and is a lesbian.

Dimitri - Asexual male.

Maeve - Bisexual woman.

Fannar - Intersex, non binary.

Izzy - Intersex, identifies as male.

Libby - Intersex, perceived as female, later transitions to be perceived as male.

Killian Hastur - Homossexual af.

:: HEADCANON // gender identity.

     Dimitri is a TRANS MAN. He was assigned female at birth, but has never felt that he quite fit into the category of “GIRL.” To dig into this a bit more I’ll first say I like to think, in general, that MOST people of Faerghus couldn’t care less how you present— as long as you can HUNT and FISH and FIGHT, you’re good in their book. So when Dimitri tells his family that he is a BOY, not a girl, at around the age of 10, it’s a SOMEWHAT smooth change.

     Because of his crest, it is VERY easy for Dimitri to build muscle mass— this helps him to feel more MASCULINE and therefore comfortable in his own skin. It's part of why he starts doing strength training daily on top of what he’s already made to do by Gilbert & co. He also happens to grow rather TALL, which is helpful. He’s blessed with a smaller chest that's easy enough for him to bind— though if given the option, he would get top surgery. He does not really experience bottom dysphoria, but his hips make him feel insecure. Feminine clothing doesn’t necessarily make him dysphoric, but if it accentuates the features that he doesn’t like ( chest & hips ), he won’t wear it. He tends to go BACK AND FORTH between being okay with and hating long hair.

     One problem with being the HEIR TO THE THRONE is that EVERYBODY from Dominic to Gautier knows about his transition. Because of this, he is HYPER AWARE that he cannot truly pass as a guy-- or at least, that’s what his DYSPHORIA tells him when he looks in the mirror. The way his family handles the change isn’t the BEST-- they simply go from calling him Princess Phoebe to Prince Dimitri and wait for everyone else to catch up. While he is grateful that they don't make a big deal of it, Dimitri is often fearful that he will have to EXPLAIN himself to people he hasn’t met before who perhaps have not yet gotten the memo, as it has happened a few times.

     The first time he feels the need to cut his hair is probably after Catherine calls him a YOUNG MAIDEN when he’s around 11, as mentioned in their C support. He lets it grow out again for a couple years until the Tragedy takes place. Some of his hair is BURNT OFF in the incident, and he ends up cutting it short again with or without the help of Dedue. When he is depressed, he tends to IGNORE his hair, and when he has a crisis, he cuts it. A couple days before he heads off to join the Academy, he looks in the mirror and decides he looks TOO FEMININE to be around a bunch of new people and so he cuts it again with one of his daggers.

     All in all, Dimitri passes easily enough as a guy, but it does little to help his gender dysphoria.

Tournament of Souls is an wip interactive fiction. The story follows the MC as they're thrust into Tournament against their will. Being the child of the most famed winner of the Tournament, the choice to enter was never really theirs.

The Tournament sees the MC traveling to another dimension, the Solace, in order to bring back a girl who's fate has long since been decided for her. To win the Tournament, they will need to be the first competitor to bring their girl back to the Circle, a group of six past winners. Upon their return, they must undergo a series of tests to determine if they’re deserving of the win.

The Tournament of Souls is the time to make a name for yourself, to prove you're worthy of standing amongst legends. If you win, that is...

For the 'send a character' asks, how about Naoto Shirogane (Persona 4) and Marianne + Dimitri? (Fire Emblem 3 houses). And yes, I'm playing a dangerous game by sending my favourites :)

Naoto

Rate them from 0-10 (0 being least favorite, 10 being all time favorite): 6! Would probably rate them higher if they showed up earlier in the game. If we're counting spin offs too then 7 or 8. Sexuality HC: Demiromantic, asexual, bisexual Gender HC: Hmm... though many would disagree I feel like both cis female and trans HC are valid depending on which sort of struggle speaks most to the player. For me personally I don't really assign any particular gender so idk 😅 Fav Moment: I liked Naoto playing the straight man during the bar scene. They put up with so much from these idiots dklfjls I also love Naoto's dancing style in the P4D, if that counts. Random HC: Idk why but Naoto kind of feels like a secret nerd to me. I feel like they don't take much time to relax in general but if they did I think they'd be quite into tabletop games, especially ones where they got to set up mysteries for others to solve. Opinion: I love Naoto! Certain a fave! The only thing I dislike is how much Atlus likes to make characters that look like carbon copies of eachother (Jun, Minato, Yusuke, etc.), Naoto included.

Marianne

Rate them from 0-10 (0 being least favorite, 10 being all time favorite): 10!!!!!!! She is one of my three favorite characters from this game Sexuality HC: Pansexual Gender HC: Cis female Fav Moment: Um, well I am 100% biased because this is one of my fave pairings but I love all of her interactions with Ignatz. Their supports had a certain softness to them that a lot of her others supports lacked. I loved her being able to build up a bit of confidence and self esteem in a scenario where she wasn't being judged and where no one was harassing her about her past or her crests. Random HC: Firstly, autistic headcanon because I just love projecting 😌Secondly, despite her inability to communicate well with others, she's actually quite talented as an poet and lyricist, though she lacks the confidence to actually share her work with anyone. I think she writes a lot of devotional songs since she's quite religious, but I feel that she would write personal pieces about her daily struggles as well. I think she'd include a lot of animal imagery in her works (and if I want to tie it back to the Ignatz supports then I think she'd also try to replicate some of the beautiful scenery that people often take for granted). Opinion: She's definitely my favorite character in the game. She's so sweet and I relate to her a lot. Her voice is very soft and pleasant to listen to and her healing powers have saved my ass many times.

Dimitri

(Disclaimer: I haven't played all of his route yet, I'm still pre-timeskip so this is based soley on what I've seen so far/the tiny bits I gathered from seeing my friend play his route) Rate them from 0-10 (0 being least favorite, 10 being all time favorite): 4! But mostly because I don't know him that well yet, this will probably go up later!

Sexuality HC: Bisexual

Gender HC: Trans male (idk why, just for fun!)

Fav Moment: It's not a particular moment but I found it quite interesting to join his house. I played Golden Deer first and knew that I had the wrong initial impression of Claude but that was only basing it on the first meeting with him (before you choose) so it wasn't too alarming. With Dimitri, however, I was quite shocked to have seen this serious and uptight man from the outside this whole time, only to join his house and find out that he can be a little goofy and kind of a sweetheart at times but also that he has this scary and cryptic side to him (well, that it's present under the surface from the beginning I should add). I liked it a lot, it was a nice surprise!

Random HC: I don't think I've fully decided on any head canons yet, though I'd like to think he's a little more hurt and frustrated by Felix's treatment of him than he lets on.

Opinion: I do love a blonde man with trauma. I forsee him being a favorite soon, I am really liking him so far! I cannot wait to see this man become unhinged. ----------- Thanks for the asks, I didn't think anyone would even send one lol. Good taste in faves! :D
