Well, here I am.

I made it. I’m in Spain.

I forgot how it would look like after coming here, I remember something along the lines of finding who I am or who I wanted to be. I feel like I was too consumed in the process of getting here and now that I am here, I have no idea what to do next.

I viewed this as an end goal rather than part of the process itself. I figured that it was a different country with different people and that their world was in another language and culture. I assumed that in the process of discovering this new world, I would also come across discovering myself.

I’ve traveled to Spain, Italy, and Switzerland so far. I kept asking myself, “Is this it? Taking pictures, eating good food, and having a few laughs?” In no way am I discounting all of these experiences, I just wanted to see something different. Something out of the norm.

I was expecting to see a different me every time I saw the mirror. Maybe I expected her to smile more, to love herself more, to see the shade of her hair or slantedness of her eyes differently.

I’ve seen some of the greatest wonders of the world but I feel like I wore too many varied shades of rose-tinted glasses that I feel detached to the different countries’ realistic colors.

The realization happened in the case like how any of my other realizations happened, a basic pondering while walking. It was in a random bridge in Venice where I realized that discovering myself didn’t come through the grandiose “Eureka” moments or through the blues of life-changing scenarios.

It happened through the little things. It happened through how I appreciated different cities, it happened through how I carefully chose the postcards that I buy, it happened through looking at the city wall’s graffiti and discovering what they felt like.

I feel like at this point it’s harder to comprehend or remember these little lessons because when we travel, we expect that they’d come to us in large puzzle pieces sprinkled with brightly-tinted oil paint.

But I’ve realized that that was how I appreciated the world differently. I feel the world through my emotions triggered by either sight or sound. Through all these musings, I have yet to decode what I’ve actually learned and what part of me should I reassess.

But it is through my writing where I get to say these thoughts out loud and carefully consider them. I reread my old blog posts and see the development of my thoughts.

To be honest, it’s quite fascinating to see how I spend so much time worrying over every little thing. This is how I view my sincerity even though the panicking seems completely unnecessary.

Maybe this is one of the small steps where I can start loving myself.
