“60 per cent of the mass of all mammals are domesticated animals - cattle, swine, sheep, horses, cats and dogs. For birds, it is even more stark. Sixty per cent of birds on Earth are from a single species - domesticated chickens. Taken as a whole, the mass of human produced material is, as of 2020, about equal to the mass of living material on earth.

If we were to sample the planet today in the same way that we sample the fossil record, we would look at the distribution of bones, and conclude that something very strange was going on so that so much of the vertebrate biomass was made up of so few species. We would be talking in terms of catastrophic environmental damage, of mass extinction.

Indeed, the biomass of wildlife has declined at a horrifying rate. The world into which Emilio Marcos was born in 1978 was home to 2.5 times as many wild vertebrates as the one in 2018. In a geological snap of the fingers, we have lost more than half of the living individual vertebrates on the planet.”

Where are you vegans and animal rights activist who supports israel?Perhaps the animals from Palestine are lower than animals in your country. Make some excuses. But, it's not my business.

"Most people don’t think about the fact they’re eating animals. When they’re eating a steak or eating chicken, most people don’t think about the tremendous suffering that those animals endure simply to become food products to be consumed by human beings.

I think the lack of critical engagement with the food that we eat demonstrates the extent to which the commodity-form has become the primary way in which we perceive the world. We don’t go further than what Marx called the exchange value of the actual object. We don’t think about the relations that the object embodies, and were important to the production of that object. Whether it’s our food or our clothes or our iPads. That would really be revolutionary, to develop a habit of imagining the human relations and non-human relations behind all of the objects that constitute our environment.

The food we eat masks so much cruelty. The fact that we can sit down and eat a piece of chicken without thinking about the horrendous conditions under which chickens are industrially bred in this country is a sign of the dangers of capitalism, how capitalism has colonized our minds. The fact that we look no further than the commodity itself, the fact that we refuse to understand the relationships that underlie the commodities that we use on a daily basis.

I think there is a connection between the way we treat animals and the way we treat people who are at the bottom of the hierarchy. Look at the ways in which people who commit such violence on other human beings have often learned how to enjoy that by enacting violence on animals. So there are a lot of ways we can talk about this." -Angela Davis

People need to understand, the focus on individuals doing things to stop climate change is only problematic when it’s companies pushing that idea to distract from the fact that they’re the bigger polluters.

We need to to try and minimise our impact, especially if you’re in a higher emissions nation. In a similar vein, buying eco friendly, vegan and fair trade things are important too.

If you can see how donating helps a cause, then surely you can see how giving money to an unethical company hurts a cause right?

just kind of frustrating that so many leftists shut down veganism. i see so many of my peers posting about how boycotts are a no-brainer, how our current comforts are based on the oppression of others. and its just frustrating to not see the logic extend to it's obvious vegan implications
