Thank you mod Sommie for the permission :) I dont wanna annoy you or anyone else by sending in a big ol comfort character thingamajig. There's no point in doing this on anon because I think people will figure out it's me 😅
The main complaint I see about Deirdre is how she's the reason everything goes wrong. And to an extent, yeah, she's a pawn in Manfroy's game, but she can't exactly control it, can she? She wasn't as lucky as Robin to be able to change her fate. It's not her fault she got kidnapped and mind wiped, nor is it her fault Julius got possessed. In fact, she sacrificed her life to let Julia escape-- but also because she blamed herself for these same things. Again, she couldn't control her fate, so please stop victim blaming her. Same for her mother. It's Victor Velthomer's fault that Genealogy happens, because he was a huge jerk and made Cigyun want to leave him in the first place.
Another is a lack of character. This... Well, I understand this one, honestly. The SNES had a lot of technical limitations that messed up a bunch of what they wanted to do in game. There's scrapped content for a bunch of characters, such as the arcs for Tailitu, Azelle, Lachesis, and Ayra (if I remember correctly). We still get a fair amount of characterization from her screentime, though. She's kind, risking everything to help Sigurd defeat Sandima. She's idealistic and a dreamer, going after what she thinks is the right path for her even if it means leaving everything behind. She's a good mother, making sure Seliph was in good hands before she left (intending to come back, mind you) and warping Julia away from Julius. She's curious, leaving the forest when she can to get a glimpse of the outside world or searching for her memories in Heroes. And even after all that happened to her, all that sorrow, she still loves everyone in her life.
I remember seeing someone say Ninian was likely an attempt at doing a character like her again, which makes a lot of sense. They'd be friends! Perhaps she'd get along with Emmeryn or Marianne as well. There's a lot of untapped potential for friendships in Heroes, honestly... Still waiting on that Edelgard/Arvis duo, FEH.
Anyways, to finish it off, I hope they keep her love for fairy tales in a remake. It's only in the Oosawa manga, but it fits her really well.

Now that Fire Emblem Heroes has opened it's yearly Choose Your Legends voting period.... I am kindly asking you to consider sparing a vote (or two!) to two of my favorites in the series: F!Robin and Sigurd!
Why?
Well let's start with Robin,
Tumblr media
Robin fans won out last year when their Male counterpart won the male division of CYL 7 alongside Soren and I'm sure many F!Robin fans (myself included) helped him reach that victory by voting, just as we did in previous years with Chrom and A!Tiki. F!Robin has waited for her time to shine and has supported her competition for several years now. It's time for her to receive the Awakening vote love!
If that wasn't enough to sway you, let's look at F!Robin's legacy in FEH.
1. Her base version was a year 1 grail unit with a mediocre (affectionate) refine that takes max investment to work around
2. Her summer alt is a year one seasonal with a bad weapon and book 1 era stats (but she sure is cute!)
3. Her legendary alt isn't even her- it's Grima. Grima took away her chance at being a legendary unit
4. Her Halloween alt is another Grima alt. She didn't even get to participate in Halloween because Grima took the spot :(
5. Her Valentine's alt is adorable but still a seasonal locked unit
6. Her rearmed version is yet another Grima.
HALF of all F!Robin's in FEH are Grima alts. There is no F!Robin available to summon in the normal 4/5 star pool. Getting a brave alt would be a big deal for her and her fans.
Please, spare a vote to the best tactician around, F!Robin!
~
Now, let's talk about Sigurd
Tumblr media
Sigurd comes from FE4, Genealogy of the Holy War, a game I know many of you may not have played yet. That's okay though! I get it! It's a bit old and jank to play and you need to emulate it with a translation patch if you don't understand Japanese. So I'm gonna explain who this man is to you....
Sigurd is the heir to house Chalphy and a descent of the crusader Baldr in Judgral, which makes him kind of a big deal. Throughout his game, he makes allies with many people throughout Judgral in an attempt to unify and fight back against the rising corruption.
Along his journey, he meets Deirdre and the two fall in love and end up having a son together, Seliph. Sigurd is devoted to his family and loves Deirdre more than anything in the world. Sigurd is a family man. Look at this Cipher art if you need more explanation:
Tumblr media
(*SPOILERS ahead for FE4, but FEH and Engage already spoiled this so if you somehow don't know what happens to Sigurd, maybe stop reading here*)
Tragedy befalls the couple not long after their son is born... Deirdre is kidnapped and her memories are wiped clean as she is needed for a sinister plot... Her holy blood is needed to help the Loptous cult resurrect their dark God so they use Deirdre as a pawn and marry her off to Arvis.
Sigurd is distraught with his wife gone and searches and searches for her but ultimately must continue through on his plans. He returns to his home and is met by Arvis, the Duke of Velthomer, and the descendant of the imperial family. He welcomes them in as a deceitful trick and declares Sigurd a traitor and calls for his execution. Before he issues the order, Arvis lets Sigurd meet his new wife- Deirdre as a sick and twisted punishment. With that, Arvis calls down Valflame and kills Sigurd and many of his army members.
Sigurd's legacy is carried by his son, Seliph, who will free Judgral from the horrors that the dark cult inflicted many years later.
~
So that was heavy. But do you understand why he's such a compelling character??? He has such an unfortunate heroes tale, but FEH let's us see him again and be able to reunite him with his love and his son.
Seliph got his own brave alt two years ago in CYL 6 and it feels right for it to be his father's time to step up and shine as a brave hero.
Let's look at Sigurd's legacy in FEH:
1. His base version is a year 1 sword cavalier who's a bit outdated but not unusable by any means with proper skill investment
2. His duo dancer alt is Deirdre is one of the best arts in the game and I won't let anyone convince me otherwise
3. His Legendary alt was a meta threat at one point in time and the art is gorgeous
4. Lastly, this year he got his second seasonal alt, a tea time Butler alt that just cute. He definitely is serving tea for Deirdre and making sure she's happy.
A brave alt just seems perfectly fitting for him at this point!
~
In conclusion, these are two characters who are ready for their moment to shine in FEH with a brave alt. They've waited for their friends or family members to get there first and now it's (potentially) their time for the brave win. Thank you for reading all this and may the CYL odds be in our favor!
TLDR: Vote for F!Robin and Sigurd in CYL 8!

It was pleasant. He was loathe to admit it, and felt his lip twitch upwards in indignation as he found his way to his seat. Ever the perfect gentleman, he pulled back the chair for Deirdre and was about to sit down when he saw him.
Sigurd.
Of course he knew he would be here. It's his damn party after all, but that doesn't make the anger that he felt less potent. As Sigurd sat Arvis locked eyes onto his, his expression not faltering as he grabbed his chair --
-- and dragged it across the floor. Slowly, deliberately. Making it so the sound rang out across the hall, and with a distinctive thump he let the four feet sit nicely on the stone floor. His new seat: the head of the table, directly across from the man who tormented him for too long. He hoped that when Sigurd looks upon his face he sees someone better than him. Someone who won.
He smiled, a devilish sort of expression, and sat down in his chair. He ignored any looks or murmurs that might have come from this, and crossed his legs as he looked again at Sigurd.
Let the game begin.
They'd tried to be conscientious with the seating arrangement - as much as they could, for such a large party, anyway - but there were some concessions neither he, nor Ethlyn, had been prepared to make.
With the matter of the Velthomers, Ethlyn had been firm - she didn't want them there, and if they must come, then let them be far away from their families. Sigurd couldn't disagree, much as it sank barbs into his heart - for what was Deirdre if not family? the mother of his son? - and agreed that they could enjoy themselves at his table, where he could keep an eye on them.
He would be at the head, after all, and would be able to see if they were enjoying themselves, or disdainful and prepared to cause a scene. He hoped not, but he'd been at less refined dinner events.
Their last meeting had ended in a manner less than civil, but even so Sigurd did not expect that Lord Arvis would have done anything rash or horrid to mess up such a lively - densely populated - event.
And so he did keep an eye out, the corner of his eye specifically, while focusing on the things that mattered at the moment: his family, and his friends, were here, with him, and they were happy. He gave Seliph's hand a squeeze, he laughed along to his own joke as he regaled Ayra, and he pressed a drink insistently into Edain's hands.
The screeeeeeech and thump sounded clear in the acoustics of the hall, and his eyes flickered up from his family to find the issue -
Ah, merely Lord Arvis, adjusting his chair.
Strange man.
- before he went back to beaming at those he loved most.

✧ fool's guilt: a pulse of shame you feel even though you've done nothing wrong.
She should get used to this, the woman explains, as she very gently removes her circlet. The future Duchess of Velthomer will have maids to tend to her hair, help her dress, even fix her bath for her. Deirdre is not sure she needs all that but she smiles politely, not wanting to upset the woman now applying a serum to her hair that is supposed to tame her curls. Deirdre is not sure she needs that either but it smells lovely, sweet and floral so she simply watches in the mirror until the woman focuses on her bangs.
There is a gasp and the bottle drops, breaking on the stone floor. The woman's face is white and her eyes big and wide staring at the mark in the middle of Deirdre's forehead.
She knows it is there. She has seen it herself in the mirror after each bath she has taken. She has tried to scrub it off but it seems it is stuck there. Deirdre paid it little mind since realizing it will not wash off but she had never considered it might cause such a reaction.
Deirdre is asked if the duke knows. No, she answers, no one does. The duke needs to see this immediately, the maid explains and rushes off to find him.
No one bothers to explain and Deirdre is left alone with her reflection in the mirror. What is this mark that it would elicit such a frantic reaction? What will he think when he sees it? Will he take one look at it and turn away?
The door is thrust open and her fiance storms inside. She hangs her head, frantically trying to cover her forehead with her bangs.

At this point, given the edit wars and stuff, it's not the Fire Emblem wiki at least for Fodlan related material. It's the Edelgard wiki.
Not only for Fodlan, anon.
Arvis was also heavily edited, we have this :
Tumblr media
Jury's out on what Arvis was doing to "atone", rescuing the children being hunted with Ishtar? Maybe, because child hunts BaD, but what about torching innocent peons? Like how did he atone for Lex's funeral, did he do something for Lex's children? Ditto for Brigid (who totes died guys) - she will forever be remembered a traitor ?
I also hope Jugdral Echoes, if it is ever released, will explain more why the fuck Arvis couldn't fry Manfroy when he caught Julia under his nose, no amount of "I'm powerless" can work when we meet him later - is it psychological manipulation or something? And yet he gives her Deedee's circlet, but let's be real, if Manfroy didn't went bananas for plot reasons, Julia would be dead, and Jugdral fucked (because Seliph, lore-wise, cannot defeat Loptyr-Julius, only Julia can!).
There's also no mention that in the ideal world he built before Julius read a book, Isaach was a giant brothel, Silesse was embittered in War and people are starving (revealed in FE5) and Reptor was sending his armies to slaughter a child (revealed again in FE5). Not the "Tru Piss" - I mean, ideal world free from prejudice we could expect.
There's also this tidbit I love :
Tumblr media
Arvis loved Azelle so much in FE4 that he, uh, respected his decision to join Siggy's army, and torched him.
At least the manga tries to have him "convince" his brother to switch sides!
(and of course, this page doesn't mention Saias nor Aida at all because eff FE5 I guess)
I love Arvis, as the red Emperor he is without any uwufest and who becomes Oldvis when he realises how fucked Jugdral is with his actions (and how he had been manipulated by Manfroy), and I really like his end, how it is revealed he and Ishtar saved all children (somehow) and how he ultimately helps Seliph...
But there is a lot of fuckery regarding the Julia plot point (seriously he accepts to die for Seliph but doesn't put his life on the line for Julia???) and ultimately, Saias's existence reveals a lot about his dad.

Thoughts on the roles of Julia and Altena post-game? Strange that they both have holy weapons yet get passed over for their brothers. Would it be better if Altena became the monarch of Thracia rather than Leif, for instance?
Judgral do be weird and maybe even sexist when it comes to the topic of inheritance and who gets to be the heir to a kingdom or house. Julia’s case somewhat makes sense since Seliph was the firstborn of Deirdre and she herself would want to stay at Belhalla to be around her half-brother (including Saias too) so her not wanting to claim Velthomer makes sense from that angle. However, they make no mention of what Altena exactly does aside from support Leif in uniting Thracia and apparently being given “old Thracia’s lands” to govern (Poor Arion). I guess the idea is that each of Quan’s children now control both North and South Thracia in order to try and mend the hostilities both sides have with each other. Fe5 doesn’t really cover much of Altena either and her role in all this since the liberation of Thracia was something Leif fought for while Altena was on the same side as Travant for a long while though through no fault of her own. Northern Thracians would dislike her but Southern Thracians would adore her while the opposite is likely true for Leif.
Though one thing to note about holy blood in the context of Jugdral and its politics is that it’s not really the end all be all of things when it comes to who deserves to rule. Agustria for instance used to have its king be of minor Hezul blood while Nordion’s lords have the major blood yet pledge loyalty to the minor blooded kings. Lewyn, despite having Major Forseti holy blood, is fought against by his two minor blooded uncles for Silesse’s crown and they do have supporters who fight for their ambitions (Dithorba & Pamela). There are even nobles who don’t have Holy blood yet are prominent figures within their country’s politics such as Dorius, who is a count, and Reinhardt who is not only from a noble house but also a venerated figure within the Gelbenritter. Most of Agustria’s lords like MacBeth and Clement also don’t even have Holy blood yet govern their lands as they see fit, it’s quite complicated in hindsight. At the end of the day though, I do think Julia and Altena were somewhat shafted due to how Jugdral society tends to be patriarchal.
…Except for Yngvi. For some reason, even if she has Major Forseti/Bragi blood, Patty will always go and govern Yngvi over Febail if their dad isn’t a commoner.

✧ insoucism: the inability to decide how much sympathy your situation really deserves, knowing that so many people have it far worse and others far better.
obscure sorrows / also sent by @ulircursed
Yours has always been a life that others kill for.
Or so mother tells you, anyway. She says this as she drapes pearls around your neck, as she hands you letters signed from the Velthomer's prince. "Do you know how many girls cried the day that boy chose you?" You can recall still how the hiss of her breath tickled the curve of your ear, how her nails dug into the skin of your arms, how you could hear the grin in her voice.
"How many?" You had asked, because mother never tired of answering.
"All of them."
But on particularly cold nights, ones where the ghost sobs of children echo against the stone walls of your room, you think that maybe those girls were better off. You dare to think, with guilt and shame hot in your throat, that you wish it had been one of them.
You wish this blood stained hands that were not yours, that you did not have to know the boy to whom your heart was sold. It would be easier if you had not come to love him, if your sins were not in the name of something so pure.
You should be grateful. you know, because to wear this blood is an honor. It is a testament to your worth, it is proof that you love and are loved.
It is what you are worth, that crimson. Hundreds would slit your throat to take it.
And you dare to wish for something else.
