lemme just talk kareem and waleed for a second. (slightly long post).
so the red daggers are a mantle, which means that waleed trained kareem to someday succeed him. we don't see or hear about kareem's biological parents in the episode, which centers around the red daggers.
each situation kareem and waleed find themselves in, kareem defers to waleed. every fight, he knows what to do and he knows his priority isn't to make some big, dramatic stand. the red daggers have a purpose bigger than both of them, and kareem knows that far too well for someone who was trained merely in his teen years. he has the same quirks during fights that waleed does (ie. the little bring it on hand thing they both do), and he trusts waleed enough to turn his back and trust waleed to watch it.
kareem fights and moves with the confidence of someone who is not only assured in his skills, but assured in the lessons he has learned through their acquiry. lessons of patience, trust, determination, and perseverance that we see him put into play all throughout the episode reflect the fact that while he is a kid, he's not only trained to be able to carry out the purpose of the red daggers, but he has been raised on the same values. when we first meet him, there's a careful balance between the exhilaration he feels when he's fighting kamala and the genuine knowledge he has that this isn't about how fun the fight is, it's about the fact that he has to protect her. that the bangle on her wrist is the priority.
when waleed dies, he has a choice. he can either save himself or save kareem and kamala. his final act represents that selflessness that he's taught kareem. and instead of stopping to grieve, kareem allows himself only one second of shock and anger before he's moving again.
so i think that waleed raised kareem. i think he might've been the only father figure kareem actually knew. and i think that makes even the journey they go through in just this one episode that much more painful.

Najma's like, "We are the Djinn!"
And then Waleed is like, "Okay, dial it back. The Clandestines are not literally the founding basis for the mythical Djinn. Our forefathers called them Djinn because that was already an established concept for supernatural creatures, so what else were we supposed to think?"

Guys Waleed (Farhan Akhtar) isn't dead. He's alive in Kareem's flashbacks as well as in another universe of the multiverse we have.
just gotta ask America Chavez to fetch him for us..:')

As much as I am still clinging to Bruno x Kamala endgame...
[...and after a lifetime spent in Enemies-To-Lovers bias, I like to hope I am maturing a bit in at least being open to Friends-To-Lovers possibilities馃榿馃榿馃榿馃榿.] I would not be mad about Kamala Khan having feelings for Kareem, who I personally prefer, in looks and overall, to Kamran. (Though no shade to him -- I feel like I am the only person in the world that actually ships Kamran x Nakia馃敟馃敟馃敟馃敟that would be a really hot couple.) I have only had our Red Dagger for one episode, but he is my new fave, and adopted son, and I need him to be a Permanent Fixture in the MCU in any capacity, and not go out like his mentor. (Though being played by a Bollywood star, I could see why Waleed could only be a cameo馃様馃槕.) Please and thank you, Kevin Feige and the rest of Marvel.

Waleed is such a cool character. Kamala's initial fight with Kareem showed us how formidable the Red Daggers are. Despite her powers, Kareem was able to think quickly and fight her to a standstill with just his wits and his signature daggers. And Waleed? Waleed's the guy who taught him all of that.
Waleed is the type of supporting protagonist who's literally too cool to live. He has a fountain of knowledge to pass off to Kamala as well as a mission to prevent Najma from doing exactly what she intends to do, which he's spent his whole life carrying out - And he demonstrates exactly how when he fights off multiple Clandestines at once.
Waleed's continued existence would make it impossible for the plot to continue escalating. This is precisely why wise old masters tend to get merced in the second act. It's hard to justify an epic final battle between Luke and Vader if Obi-Wan's chilling out just offscreen.
The dude was a walking Death Flag from the instant we met him. It comes as no surprise when he sacrifices his life to protect Kaleem and Kamala. From start to finish, he's played more or less to formula. But it's a formula for a reason. Even in death, he's still the coolest guy in the room.
