Another Echo/Frankenstein Parallel
I'm far from the first one to point out a connection between Echo and nods to Mary Shelley's famous novel, but might I add:
Wat Tambor. As in Tambora. As in Mount Tambora the volcano that erupted and led to the Year Without a Summer and subsequent writing of Frankenstein.
You cannot tell me its a coincidence that the leader of the Techno Union is named Tambor, and has that Victorian-esque, Steampunk mad-doctor look about him, and creates a scientific horror in his lab. ("scientific horror" in reference to what was done to him, not Echo himself, my sweet boy).
Like, yes, the parallels are there, but man! They had to be intentional if we're pulling cuts like this.

when Vader struck down Wat Tambor on Mustafar, do you think, in some small part of Anakin that still remained, he thought of Echo?

Left For Dead
[read on ao3][masterlist]Febuwhump prompt: left for dead
General Skywalker, a droid is manning one of those turrets. It's going to blow up the shuttle, Sir! "I do believe it's still alive." This is our only chance! We've got to stop it! "That is an ARC trooper. Very, very valuable, that one. They were fools to leave it for dead. Put it in stasis." Aaah!

General Skywalker, a droid is manning one of those turrets. It's going to blow up the shuttle, Sir!
"I do believe it's still alive."
This is our only chance! We've got to stop it!
"That is an ARC trooper. Very, very valuable, that one. They were fools to leave it for dead. Put it in stasis."
Aaah!
"It's doable, if a bit… experimental."
"I think it's the perfect candidate. The brain is wholly intact."
What…
"The body is a problem, however."
"How so?"
"Well, there's not much left to work with, is there?"
Where… where am I…
"I think he's a perfect candidate for nerve grafting. There's plenty of dead clones lying around, we only need a few for parts."
For… parts?
"What are you thinking?"
"A complete overhaul of the right arm—I believe a scomp attachment would be interesting, especially if I can interface it with a cybernetic brain implant."
No, no, why can't I move?
"A standard cryfibril nanofibre for the legs. I think if we add some power jacks right… there, this could be very, very interesting."
"I agree. I look forward to your drafts."
Fives… Fives, where are you? Brother?
"Does it need an anesthetic?"
"It's completely paralyzed, I don't see the need."
"Ah, yes, I forgot. Please, ignore me."
Get away! GET AWAY!
"Making incision."
GET AWAY PLEASE GET AWAY PLEASE STOP STOP STOP STOP
"I think we'll have to thread the wire through the bone marrow. Hand me that drill, would you?"
STOP STOP STOP STOP STOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOP
"That is troubling."
Fives
"You said the brain was undamaged."
"It was. There's been rapid degradation in the medial prefrontal cortex over the last few weeks."
"Perhaps it's the surgeries. Can pain cause brain damage in Humans?"
I can't feel anything anymore
"Perhaps. Well, we planned on installing the AJ6 anyway. The algorithm is ready."
"We will not be able to completely override its personality with the present damage."
"I don't think it'll matter in the long run."
Rex
"I defer to you as always, Doctor."
"Clear surgical suite five. I don't want to risk any further degradation interfering with the implant."
Am I still real
"Right away."
"Don't go braindead on me yet, CT-1409. I have big plans for you."
"Oh, excellent work, Doctor."
"I hate to preen, but I agree. It's a flawless transfer."
CT-1409
"And the algorithm?"
"Already working like a dream. Look at the way the program is interfacing with his brain."
CT-1409
"You should be proud of your masterpiece. We will be rewarded greatly for what we've done here."
"I could not have done it without you, old friend. This is our masterpiece."

the separatists are the best star wars faction because it’s so funny that the galaxy’s leading corporate executives ultimately just got scammed by an old monk who then tricked them into getting trapped in a room with a mentally unstable 20 year old with a sword

Star Wars: The Clone Wars AU fanfic…
Where a legal battle between the GAR and Techno Union over Arc Trooper Echo sparks the movement for clone rights across the Galactic Republic.
So I recently watched the deleted scenes from the Clone Wars season 7 and there was an interesting scene between Anakin and Wat Tambor around how Echo ended up in the hands of the Techno Union. According to Wat Tambor, the neutral system “legally purchased” Echo after his capture at Lola Sayu, where he was pronounced KIA. Now, in the show the Techno Union just takes the loss and doesn’t actually try to “recoup on their investment” as Wat Tambor says at the end of the third episode. BUT could you imagine if they decided to fight the legality of the GAR swooping into a neutral system’s territory and stealing their property?!?
Like, imagine the Techno Union initiating a whole legal campaign saying that the Republic stole Echo from a neutral system and was therefore in the right to demand the return of their property.
Imagine, the Jedi and the GAR arguing that Echo cannot be legally purchased by anyone because he is a sentient being and purchasing a sentient being is illegal. Imagine, the Techno Union and Separatists trying to take the moral high ground by pointing out that the Jedi/Galactic Republic purchased the clones for warfare and were never naturalized as citizens of the Republic. Cue Anakin, having the biggest existential crisis wherein in he realizes he is part of a system that has rubber stamped slavery. Cue the legal and ethical pissing match between the Republic and Techno Union sparking a movement to naturalize the clones as citizens of the Republic. Cue the entire GAR questioning their role in the war when the Galactic Senate is totally divided over the naturalization of the clones.
- Fox and Corrie Guard just yeet their way to a full labor strike on Coruscant
- Obi-Wan, Cody, Rex and The Bad Batch take Echo to a far of Jedi temple and claim sanctuary
- Anakin leading a full standstill of the Outer Rim sieges because he refuses to participate in legal slavery and taking full dive into investigating just why the fuck Sifo Diyas commissioned a clone army 10 years before the war (sooo annoyed that was not picked up on after that one throw away episode in season 6!)
- the Jedi Council actually start to question how this war started, which leads them on the trail of Darth Sidious
- Plo Koon adopting his Wolfpack and hyperspacing them all to safety
- Bail Organa, Riyo Chuchi and Padme Amidala write up a Clone Rights bill so fast that Palpatine has no idea how to keep all his plans from going off the rails
- Ahsoka rallying Coruscant citizens into a full on movement to make clones citizens and ending the war
OMG do I wish I had the writing chops to pull this story off….

Skakoans as watches
Given that Skakoans and watches are both fragile parts in heavy cases, it's surprisingly easy to find watches that look like them.
Wat Tambor: Tissot Titanium T-Touch Solar Expert ($1300)
Tumblr media
Withstanding 100 meters of water pressure while somehow having a touch screen and solar power at the same time, this watch is seriously well-engineered while being comparatively affordable. Perhaps even over-engineered. With calendars, timers, alarms, compass, altimeter, and barometer, AND iOS, Android, and HarmonyOS compatibility, who could you possibly be trying to impress? For all our sakes, please take a break.
Jul Tambor: Rolex Gold Daytona ($80,000)
Tumblr media
With a name linked to wealth and prestige and to pointless death and destruction, how long can you keep coasting off brand recognition? Is your successful micromanagement admirable, or proof that you have nothing better to do? Withstanding 100 meters of water pressure is the only thing you have in common with your predecessor. Even the most outrageously frivolous things are valuable investments when your survival depends on flexing on gangsters as hard as you can.
Kul Teska: Casio Resin G-Shock GA700UC-3A ($100)
Tumblr media
Every timekeeping feature expected from a watch, withstanding 200 meters of water pressure, as well as a blindingly powerful LED flashlight, looking like a grotesque tacticool monstrosity and being pretty cheap prevent this watch from being worn in prestigious company.
Clongor: Hublot Carbon Fiber MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis ($200,000)
Tumblr media
Purposefully unreadable, ergonomically terrible, withstanding 30 meters of water pressure, exposed screw heads that look one hard hit away from falling out, five times more expensive than the second most expensive watch on this list, the few timekeeping features this watch has beyond the absolute bare minimum make it even worse. If you thought all luxury watches are tastelessly impractical displays of wealth, take a look at this fucking thing and be grateful at least they aren't all this bad.
Hallio Bas: Skmei Plastic 1698 Digital ($5)
Tumblr media
You tried.

My first concept for a supporting antagonist in my video game idea, “the Chamberlain.” Heavily inspired both design- and appearance-wise by his namesake from *The Dark Crystal*, Chamberlain SkekSil. Also inspired in part by Wat Tambor from *Star Wars*.

Often i think about how during the Clone War the Techno Union claimed neutrality while Wat Tambor was ON THE SEPARATIST COUNCIL????
Not only that but they were also holding a prisoner of war??? And if i remember correctly they were also in possession of Separatist battle droids??
And they STILL tried to claim neutrality after that was discovered???
Like y’all
Also where exactly did the Trade Federation stand?
Because i know they had a representative in the Republic Senate but Nute Gunray was constantly working with the Separatists so…?

Vader saved Nute Gunray for last.
More than that, he gave Gunray a chance to beg for his life, knowing full well that nothing the grubby little viceroy could say would ever save him. After cutting down every other Separatist leader in front of him, possibly actively timing his movements to make it seem that Gunray was just lucky, possibly deliberately trying not to kill him and to give him hope of survival in the process, Vader leapt across the room, stood before the pathetic Neimodian, and waited. Waited for him to realize that he might be able to save his skin, waited for him to start begging. None of the others had gotten the opportunity. Vader had cut them down without a moment’s hesitation, but Nute got a few moments to try and talk his way out of his imminent demise, got a small dose of hope mixed with the additional moments of added terror, before Vader had ended him.
Because of all of the Separatist leaders, Nute Gunray was the one Anakin had hated the most.
Wat Tambor had tried to burn Ryloth and it’s people when he lost. Poggle had tried to turn him and Obi Wan into mindless slaves and had been ready to let Ahsoka become one as well. The Muuns had likely enabled Clovis, or at least been associates of his.
But Gunray? Gunray had tried to invade Naboo, and had spent years afterwards trying to murder Padme. He’d sent bounty hunter after bounty hunter after her, gloated as she had been sentenced to death on Geonosis, and had even tried luring her into his clutches on Rodia. He’d taken time out of the middle of the largest war in over a thousand years, a war in which he was a crucial figure, to try and hurt Padme.
And for that, Gunray needed to suffer, as anyone else who would hurt Padme would suffer.
In Gunray’s final moments, as he pleaded with the new dark lord to see that the massacre was a pointless betrayal, Vader felt his fear, and felt it strengthen him. He felt it flow through him, along with the quiet hatred he’d tried to suppress since Naboo, the hatred he now unleashed in full, as his saber slashed across Gunray’s torso. In Gunray’s final scream of pain and terror, Vader felt a rush of power. It was the first time Vader had used someone’s fear, but it would not be the last.

Me @ me: get the heck off the internet and get ready for work. stop reblogging things! You can blog about it later!
So after rewatching Umbara I, of course, had to move on to even more excrutiatingly emotional and sad bits of The Clone Wars and I have too many thoughts about all of that. Suffice to say there are so many things implied or mentioned that happened off screen that I need to see damnit. If anyone ever makes a Tales of the Clones, I will be there with bells on. okay. be back later.  👀
