Born on feast day of St. Elizabeth, she was christened Elżbieta, Elyzaveta, or Halshka (under this latter name she came down into history). Halshka’s father was Prince Illia Ostrozkyi (Ostrogski), a weathly magnate and a member of ancient Ukrainian (Ruthenian) powerful aristocratic family, that traced their origins back to the semi-legendary prince Rurik. The representatives of this family held great offices in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland. At the royal court in Krakow, Illia Ostrozkyi met Beata Kościelecka, a notable beaty, and, according to the rumours, an illegitimate daughter of King Sigismund I of Poland. The couple was married in 1538, but their happiness did not last long: Illia was wounded during the tournament, and died soon after, in August 1539. In November Beata gave birth to their only child, a daughter.

According to her father’s will, Halshka stood to inherit half of his vast estates (including the cities of Ostroh and half of Rivne, along with many more), that were to be under her mother’s control until the heiress reached adulthood. Beata was also to keep control of her husband’s younger half brother’s Vasyl’s inheritance. The latter, who was to become powerful magnate and patron of religion and education under the name of Vasyl Kostyantyn Ostrozkyi (Ostrogski), soon took measures to retain the power of his estates his estates and rule them on his own. In his testament, Illia had also entrusted the care of his daughter to the King Sigismund, his wife, Queen Bona Sforza, and their son, Sigismund II Augustus.

Since Halshka was the recipient of such a magnificent inheritance, it soon became a matter of almost national importance to find her a suitable husband. Here, the interests of Lithuanian and Polish nobility also clashed. Suitors, eager for wealth and influence were not slow to appear. Among them were Dymitr Sanguszko, starost of Kaniv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr, Jan Mielecki, voivode of Podilia, and even, according to a legend, Dmytro Vyshnevetskyi, the famous founder of the first stronghold on the Khortytsya island. Halshka’s uncle, Vasyl Kostyantyn Ostrozkyi, who was gradually growing in power, supported the candidature of Dymitr Sanguszko, while both the King of Poland and Beata Kościelecka were against him. Sanguszko married Halshka all the same, but was soon sentenced to infamy (deprivation of noble status and threat of death sentence if he did not agree to annul his marriage), and murdered.

The next match for Halshka, proposed by the King Sigismund II, was Łukasz Górka, voivode of Poznań, Kalisz, Łęczyca and Brześć Kujawski. Beata Kościelecka had at first agreed to it but later changed her mind towards this marriage. Once again, her protests availed nothing: the wedding took place in the presence of the royal family in Warsaw. Halshka was told that her mother agreed to the marriage, but when she learned that this was not the case, Princess appealed to the royal council to annul it, and fled to Lviv with Beata.

Halshka’s third union was orchestrated by Beata. This time the groom was Prince Siemion Slutski, who, for the sake of conspiracy, had to meet his bride in a monastery disguised as beggar. The couple wed in 1559, but this marriage was also short-lived. Though neither Halshka nor Beata regarded Łukasz Górka as the Princess’s true husband, Górka himself was evidently of different opinion. He rushed to Lviv with arms and took Halshka captive. Prince Siemion Slutski died in 1560. Górka placed Halshka – virtually a prisoner – in the castle of Szamotuły, near Poznań, where she spent fourteen years until his death, isolated from the world. It is said that during her imprisonment Halshka was wearing the black mourning robes, which was why she got nicknamed “the Black Princess”.

After the death of Łukasz Górka in 1573, Halshka Ostozka was finally free and able to return to her homeland. During the reign of Henri Valois as the King of Poland, Halshka’s uncle, Vasyl Kostyantyn Ostrozkyi saw to it that the estates, left to her by her father, were returned to the Princess. The rumours that Halshka has got insane during her confinement in Szamotuły, do not seem to be true, as in her later years she actively participated in the works of patronage, attended court hearings, and financially supported a prominent educational institution – the Ostroh Academy, established by Prince Vasyl Kostyantyn Ostrozkyi. She died in 1582, leaving her estates to Vasyl Kostyantyn.

Halshka Ostozka was said to be a remarkable beauty, but sadly none of her life portraits survived. She is featured in famous painting Kazanie Skargi (Sermon of Piotr Skarga, painted in 1862-64) by Jan Matejko, where Halshka is depicted as a young richly dressed woman, covering her forehead with her hand in sad contemplation; she is placed a little behind Anna Jagiellonka, sister to Sigismund II, and once Queen of Poland.

Another renown portrait of Halshka Ostrozka was painted in 1996 by Ukrainian artist Yurii Nikitin, who did a research among the portraits of Ostrozky family. The portrait features a young serious woman with delicate features, dressed in strict black gown, adorned with rich jewels, and a white headwear that covers her hair and neck closely. In her hand she is holding a book – most likely a Holy Scripture.

Ahoy Chai, I’ve been cooking up my own little rewrite for Hazbin/Helluva for funzos and I wanted to get your opinion on some ideas I’ve got.

The rewrite is called ‘Charlie’s Sinners’ cuz I like the reference to Charlie’s Angels, but it’ll be changed in the future for a couple reasons

This rewrite will condense Hazbin and Helluva into one narrative, but the main focus will be on Hazbin. So the story will be Hazbin’s but Helluva characters will appear.

The setting will be on Earth, not in Hell. This is because viv hasn’t done anything really interesting with Hell in any of her work, her Hell just feels like a shittier Earth. Plus, while this will be a narrative that has religion as a theme, religion will not be the primary focus of the story. So characters will be inspired by, but NOT explicitly based on religious/demonic figures. One more thing, other religious concepts and figures besides Christian ones may be included as well, so the setting being in Christian Hell wouldn’t make sense. Of course, I’ll be doing my homework to accurately and respectfully represent these religions and their cultures, since viv cannot be fucked to do that either.  There will 7 main characters: Charlie, Vaggie, Angel, Alastor, Husk, Nifty, and Baxter. I specifically went with 7 characters because they’re meant to represent the 7 deadly sins in their personalities, interests, goals, etc. (Charlie=Pride, Vaggie=Wrath, Angel=Lust, Alastor=Gluttony, Husk=Sloth, Nifty=Envy, and Baxter=Greed) 

The big, overall theme of this rewrite will be how we as intelligent mammals can improve. Whether it be ourselves, our relationships, our jobs, our society, even our world, the big question is how can we be better people? Also, how do we maintain being better people? It’s similar to Hazbin’s theme of redemption, but more down to earth and personal methinks. Bojack is gonna be a big inspiration for this, though I’ll have to check out Morel Orel as I’ve heard that has religious themes and is very dark. 

Now while I haven’t redesigned any characters yet, I have been experimenting with body diversity in the characters because we all know how allergic viv is to such. For Charlie, I’ve made little change to her admittedly, mostly because she’s the most human of the main cast in the og Hazbin. Though having been inspired by other redesigns I may make her a little more plump since in my rewrite, Charlie is not royalty, but is still part of a powerful and weathly family and lives a luxurious yet sheltered lifestyle. For Vaggie, I intend for her to act as a foil for Charlie, so she’s short and stout, built like a cement brick because she’s lived a rough and tumble dog eat dog life. Tbh, I haven’t thought super hard how her physical appearance would tie into her story/personality/motifs yet, I just wanted a swole Vaggie because god’s gift to the earth is buff women. I also plan on giving her plenty of scarring, not only because wrath and violence, but so they could resemble the patterns of a moth’s wings.

For Angel, I’ve made them plus sized. This is because I’m keeping the spider motif with Angel, though much more subtle. Since tarantulas can be hairy/fuzzy, I liked the idea of Angel outwardly looking soft and cuddly, but inwardly holding some bite and venom that shines through their words and actions. My Angel is still a known sexual figure, though here they’re going to be a semi independent Onlyfans type model instead of an adult film star, so they’re very bottom heavy in comparison to Vaggie’s top heavy bulk and Charlie’s more evenly distributed body. Also they’re gonna have a fat ass cuz thorax, I just couldn’t show it super well from this angle. Angel is also gender fluid here, going by he/she/they pronouns

Finally is Alastor. He’ll be the only character in the main cast that’s keeping the spindly bodies viv is known for, though I’ve translated that into him having an uncomfortablely thin, almost emaciated body, based off Jack Skellington. This would also fit in with a deer motif, what with their long and thin limbs. I also liked the idea of a figure/representative of gluttony being anorexic in their physical appearance, like their so gluttonous that no matter how much they try to fill themselves up, they will always feel a terrible ache within themselves for more. All that so say Al is super thin, but he ain’t no glutton for food here, he just doesn’t take good care of himself. Currently, Alastor is the character that I’m both not changing that much but also radically departing from his og incarnation.

And that’s pretty much it for now. I’ll have Husk, Nifty, and Baxter sketched out soon, I’ve got classes atm so I can’t do that right now, but if I have piqued your tea interests I’d love to share more!

These are awesome ideas, and I love the sketches! They're a much needed breath of diverse body type air!

Watching deserter pursuit and one thing i dont like is that the soldiers look so old. Jun ho, ho yeol, all the deserters, are there for their mandatory military service. Boys usually do that at age 20 and are required to have it done by 30. But the actors are SO old. Jun ho's actor is 35. Ho yeol's is 40!!

Now imagine all the trauma and violence happening and you look on screen and its happening to a fresh faced 20 year old boy. A child.

Also, and i think western audiences are missing this mostly, koreans get it, its as much an indictment of class as it is military toxic masculinity. Lower class boys and boys from rural areas get sent to more dangerous parts of the country. They get fewer privileges. And it results in that kind of atmosphere of hurt others or be hurt yourself. Its a scarcity mindset. The children of the professional class, seoul national university students, the weathly - this doesn't happen to them

Fergus family are very weathly wizards,less respected as Orson Drawn family but still very popular among wizards.

When he been confronted to a dragon in the magyar hall and when his cousins almost died

It depend he resort fast from a physical confrontation but magical it take more time ( 5 weeks)

He is ready to improve himself for become a better guy if it’s necessary.

As a funny , pleasant, kind , rowdy, attentive guy. The type of guy we like hanging time with .

He act more distant and don’t pay attention to them but if they touch him on a sensive point ( like his family or something /someone he care about) he is ready to hit back . So Everett Clopton and Medea Pharmak are on his black list .

He will remove a problem if it that bother him or the others

Ideas I've had but never fleshed out, for your pleasure:

-Grateful patient that Anders saved becomes Clinic Volunteer, develops HUGE crush on Anders.

-Mage Underground Agent, lots of late nights at a table overlooking and collaborating on plans, life, or death scenarios bring people closer together.

-Noble that comes down to the clinic for discreet healing becomes Anders benefactor, slowly this evolves from not only giving the clinic money but sending Anders more personal items.

One of my half-baked OCs is basically your Mage Underground agent as well. It just fits so well 👌

I haven't considered the third option before, but I'm finding it so crunchy delicious 💯 the possibilities and parallels (with Hawke past-Act 1) here! Anders not thinking much about this noble because, you know, he's a noble. But the more the noble sees of Darktown, and the more he speaks with Anders, the more he begins to really see and care, and ofc Anders greatly approves of that. First it is about the refugess, then about the mages.

Hawke not using his money to woo Anders bc he doesn't think it would be a winning strategy, but then sees another weathly person doing exactly that and it's working (not really, it just looks that way) and immediately goes into "!!!!!!" mode and tries the same strategy himself lmao

Anders being buried in expensive gifts, donation money, lurium potions of dubious origins, etc, etc

Hawke and the noble duking it out during some fancy Hightown party and nobody knows why lmao

Regarding the MCU Moon Knight vs comics

Let me gush about both because no one IRL will let me and I am having a pique of hyperfixation.

In the comics:

Marc is absolutely insane. I have read at minimum 100 issues and a dozen arcs and STILL do not have a solid backstory on him. Every arc you're left wondering if that entire arc happened in his head during a meditation session or if he's actually in aental hospital, etc. He seems to own a dilapidated mansion or hotel in which ghosts appear to have him help them. There is an arc about escaping a mental ward in which Ammit is his doctor and her orferleys are jackals. I still don't know about his brother, if he had one. In one issue he said he killed his brother over a girl. He wears the Moon Knight armor and will only answer to MK in it, and is generally gruff and doesn't talk (aside from quips) while wearing it.

Steven is the weathly, popular, charismatic entrepreneur who knows everyone, goes to every fund raising function, scores multi million dollar investments... And then turns around and purs that money directly into helping the homeless and provertous in Hell's Kitchen. His suit is the Mr Knight suit but he will not answer to Steven or Marc in it, and acts like Sherlock Holmes with his own police chief giving him cases.

Jake doesn't talk unless he's fighting. He comes out when they're losing a fight and kills everyone, and he is clearly the protector in the system. In fact, Jake is so unpersonable that Marc's long term girlfriend in the comics picks Jake out before she does Steven. Jake father's a child with that girlfriend because Marc won't be with her at one point, and when Marc finds out, this happens:

In the MCU show:

Marc is running on empty. He is a man whose own mind is against him to the point where he has lost his desired career (military) for "going in a fugue state and going AWOL". He has borne so much pain and emotional and physical abuse that his mind literally snapped. He has mired in grief and a deep sense of guilt his entire life, but still has reverence for life and wants peace. He wants to be wanted. Every promise he gives is to disappear from someone's life, so they'll be happier.

Steven is simple, happy in his naivete, loves a good book and to gush about a hyperfixation. He is charismatic and overly friendly to a fault, honest and kind even to the street workers in his area of London but also determined and has a strong sense of justice. It's Steven who negotiates the terms of his second deal with Khonshu, and Steven who wins back the girl, and Steven who gets Marc thru times that he cannot handle. (Also: see the canon that he has no idea how his flat is paid for- he said it's his mum's flat, which implies that it's paid for and not by his piddly gift shop job. Suggests that Marc or Jake is the money-maker in the MCU) also that scene when Marc is crying in the street and yanked Steven up to block himself from the unbearable pain is heartbreaking, and no one can tell me that Steven didn't get a solid idea about "the point of him[self]" right then and there.

Jake: all we know about MCU Jake is he appears to be Latino and quite ruthless regarding killing. So far that tracks with the comics. Since in the comics he is a protrctor, and is especially protective of Steven, I hope that he develops similarly and the still-intact service to Khonshu is, to Jake, an act of protecting his system from a master the other two do not want while also getting his adrenaline-junkie kicks in, because comic Jake likes to fight and fuck and pretty much does not talk. I am curious to see if the spanish-speaking is how they handle Jake not having much dialogue.
