Reader is a DeLuca and Andrew calls her for help with Amelia's brain tumour. (R is a double certified neuro and cardio surgeon, she's also the best neuro and cardio dr in Italy.) (Amelia can't act straight around her, basically has a gay panic moment everytime she's near the Italian dr.)

a/n: so reader is only a cardio surgeon, sorry! i still hope you enjoy this fanfic because i had a ton of fun writing it!

You missed everything about Italy, the sand of the beaches, the sweet air, something about the people, you missed it all. There were two things that Italy didn’t have that you loved more, Amelia Shepherd and one of the best cardiothoracic surgery programs in the whole world.

Unfortunately, when you’d heard Amelia had a brain tumor that was tricky at best, you worried that soon, you might lose half of the reason you’d fallen in love with America. You remembered when they’d told you that you couldn’t be in the O.R. with her to monitor her vitals, it felt like you’d had a heart attack, your heart almost stopped, you swore it had. Amelia couldn’t bare to look at you.

“Hey,” she’d asked you to stay back after, “I know Andrew called you in to monitor my heart function and-and all that while the surgery was happening, and our relationship kind of… well it kind of puts a wrench in that. If you wanted to go home-.” You stop listening, and you cut her off quickly, “No. Amelia, stop it. I’m not going home! If they needed me in there after they learned their stupid lesson and I’d gone home, I don’t know… I don’t know what I’d do with myself!” You put your head into your hands, sighing a bit, you look up to see Amelia with a wide grin on her face, laughing softly, “You know, you sound sexy even when you’re upset at me,” You laugh a bit with her, hitting her arm softly. “You say that to all the Italian girls,” You joke with her as she rolls her eyes, “Only the ones that I love.”

You smile at her wearily, you haven’t been together long, you wouldn’t want her to do that to placate you should she… should she die, “You don’t have to do that, Amelia. If you aren’t there yet.” Your hand holds her tightly, rubbing your thumb over hers softly. She shakes her head, smiling at you, “I don’t have to, but, I’m there. I love you, and you’d better make sure the way that Koracick shaves my head looks fucking cool.” You laugh a bit as you kiss her forehead, “Duh, that’s about the only say I’m getting in this surgery.”

You watched as Amelia was wheeled out, leaving you alone in her room. You sat for a while until you felt your phone buzz in your back pocket, you slid it out, only to see the contact: Andy… Andrew… Shit. You burst out of your seat, your fear carrying your feet down the hallway and into the O.R. hallway, past the red line on the floor and into the halls, you grab an O.R. mask, pull it on, and run into the O.R. “What is happening to her?” You hear Koracick groan as he chastises Andrew, “You called your big sister because you didn’t like a call I made?” Andrew sighs, “Her heart is getting arrhythmias, figured you should stay and check it. Koracick didn’t like that.” Tom rolls his eyes, “Look wonder twins, I know you two leaned on one another and all that but you can not tag team me with Shepherd’s girlfriend, I have it handled and I’m almost done!” He’s tense but working at a steady pace. You sigh, he has a point, and as a doctor, you know that you’d never let a patient's significant other do this at all. You turn out of the room until you hear Tom mutter something, “Fine. DeLuca, go scrub in, get some gloves on and monitor her heart rate, don’t make me regret this.” You nod, smiling to yourself as you scrub in. When you re-enter the operating room, you shoot your brother a small smile, one that he can discern even with your mask on. You hold Amelia’s hand as you watch her heart rate, for just a second, when you pick up her hand, it picks up before settling down. It’s the reaction to stimuli but it causes your heart to well up a bit. Tom chuckles a bit to himself, considering you for a moment, “You know that Amelia and me at one point-” You roll your eyes, “I did but right now really isn’t the time for that considering that you are wrist deep into her brain.” He rolls his eyes, “Touche. I just have to do this and…” You feel yourself hold a breath in for just a moment, “We’re good to close up.” You exhale, leaving Tom to eye you for a moment, “The two of you can step out now, thank you for your expertise, DeLuca.” You roll your eyes and smile at him, “I’ll be waiting in her room, Tom.” You and your brother step out, scrubbing out as you look over at him for just a moment, “Andy? Thank you for calling me in there… Even though Tom is definitely going to hate you for that later.” You laugh as he smiles at you, “Hey, I did it for you, just use those super-talented surgeon powers to get me out of the bind later?” You shoot him a wide smile and nod, “Always, brother.” When you finish, you and Andrew walk up to Amelia’s hospital room, being greeted by Meredith, Owen, and Maggie, also awaiting for Amelia to come up from surgery. They turn and look at the both of you with questioning stares, “She was perfectly fine, besides a few arrhythmias, she should wake up with absolutely no tumor and no risky behaviors.” Owen looks relieved and pulls you into a hug, you chuckle as he realizes what he just did, “Not there yet Owen, I’m still the new girlfriend and you’re her ex-husband.” He chuckles as you pull away, seeing Andrew and Meredith talking in hushed whispers by the door, the atmosphere changes when Amelia is wheeled into her hospital room. She’s more awake, though still groggy.

Koracick sighs, “You all need to stop crowding her, let me make sure she’s all there first.” You all take a collective step back, Andrew taking a step out alongside Owen backing away to being closer to the door. “Alright, Amelia… Do you know who the president is?” She nods, “Unfortunately, I do,” She laughs a bit, “Comment s'est passé l'opération?” She asks as you all share confused looks around the room for a moment, “Does she know French normally?” You ask as Owen shrugs, “She never knew French… I don’t think..?” Meredith suddenly lights up, “The Shepherd children all went to French preschool!” She practically squeals, dragging the attention from Andrew and Jo in the hallway, she quietly apologizes and Tom nods, “Besides the French, she seems to be… alert.” She’d reacted to Meredith’s loud exclamation prior as the rest of you had, as well as the regular post-brain surgery tests seemed to have gone swimmingly. After a bit of commotion, people slowly began to make their way out of her hospital room, all except for you, you kept your hand in hers as you lay against her lap, “I just wanted you to know… You did awesome in there, Amelia.” She laughs a bit, “High praise from the famous heart doctor.” You shake your head, “Being serious here, I just am happy that you’re okay.” She nods as you look up at her, she’s still a bit loopy but she’s all there.

“I’m also being serious here, I’d never leave you hanging like that, I’m here for you for as long as you want.” You smile, pecking her on the cheek, “I’ll be holding you to that, Amelia Shepherd.”

"I realise that I can't live out of a hotel forever, but at least we got somewhere with looking for houses. I'm still going to miss the bacon on the buffet. Ooh, and the Danishes." Teddy expressed as she, you and Tom stepped out of the elevator.

"Maybe it's the hormones, but just mentioning the word 'Danish'-"

"Do you want me to order you some for later?" You enquired, smiling as Teddy grinned at you.

"Hey!" Owen walked over with Leo, not really giving you or Tom a second look as he focussed on Teddy.

"Uh, Tom and I just realised that we're staying at the same hotel, and Y/n's apartment is a few blocks away." Teddy explained, sipping her drink.

"Wow, that's..." Owen began, glancing between Tom and Teddy as you checked your phone.

"Convenient." Tom finished, leaving Teddy to announce that she needed to check up on a patient from last night.

"What are you getting yourself into, Braces?" Jo whispered, pausing as she spotted the photo of Alex on the wall with all the photos of the past chiefs of surgery.

"What in god's name is that sound?" Webber exclaimed, the sound of bagpipes and drums echoing through the ER.

"Are those- why are we having a parade in the ambulance bay?" You enquired, appearing on Alex's left to make him jump.

"I don't know, but I think there's a broken wrist in bed three you could take a look at?" Alex asked, turning to look at you before watching the bagpipe players some more.

"Yeah, yeah, sure. Enjoy... whatever that is." you chuckled, gesturing to the band with a smirk.

"So, which one are you torchbearer, the one getting burned, or the one who doesn't see there's someone else holding a torch for you too? I'm done." Tom retorted, heading out of the OR as Teddy blinked in confusion.

"S/n, I need to know something." You paused, looking up from the computer to meet Koracick's eyes.

"What's the problem?"

"Do you have feelings for Altman?" Koracick asked, staring at you as you frowned, ignoring how much your stomach bubbled.

"She's having Hunt's baby." You deflected, frowning more as Koracick sighed and walked away.

"Doctor Koracick?" Your call went ignored as Tom walked down the corridor.

A knock at the door interrupted your thoughts as you stood at the counter, reading over the ingredients for the third time in your head.

Padding over in socks to the door, you smiled softly as you realised it was Teddy.

"Hey."

"Hey, what's up?" You tilted your head to the side, leaning into the door in the process.

"I just wanted to get something off my chest, can I come in?" Teddy asked, biting her lip as you opened the door for her to come in.

Her eyes followed you as you returned to the counter, reading over the recipe again.

"I remembered what you said about co-parenting but having no romance there. Then I had a patient today who made me realise that some friendships are just friendships... Owen and I are just friends, I don't want to be with him romantically, because I have never been and will never be his first choice." Teddy began, letting out a breath as she walked over to stand on the other side of the counters.

"Where are you going with this, besides deciding you don't want to date Owen?" You asked, grimacing at how blunt you sounded.

"You, Y/n, have put me first ever since we met, and I realised that you are one of the reasons I stayed in Seattle, because I could have stayed in Germany and raised my baby girl there, but I saw you playing with those children on Christmas Eve, and Arizona told me about how you would talk to those orphaned newborns." Teddy stated, watching as you looked at her with wide eyes.

"How much as Arizona talked about me to you-"

"Enough that I want you in the delivery room with me and Owen." Teddy interjected, biting her lip as your jaw dropped for a moment.

"You know Hunt's going to hate that-"

"You're my closest friend here besides Owen, Y/n. We haven't known each other anywhere as long as I've known Owen, but I want you there, if you'll-"

"Yeah, yeah, I'll be there as long as you want me, Teddy. You're my friend too. Owen's your person, like Joey is my person, so I get it, but I'll be here if you need me." You smiled, taking her hand so she'd stop lightly hitting the worktop of the counter.

"Y/n? Y/n S/n? You want her? Torres' Ortho Goddess in training who I had to fight tooth and nail for to not run away to New York for a fellowship?" Bailey asked as she walked in the hospital with Teddy.

"I know, she's amazing, so supportive. Look, I didn't expect to find anyone whilst being 30 weeks pregnant, but she's kind and fun, a little bit chaotic too, plus her singing calmed down the baby - she plays guitar. How about you and Ben now that-"

Teddy and Bailey were cut off as a car came speeding into the ambulance bay, throwing a person out of the vehicle before speeding off again.

"Hey, Bailey, pinpoint pupils!"

"Yeah, get some narcan, a crash cart and some O2. I think we got an OD." Bailey instructed to the nurse coming out of the ER doors to see what had happened.

"ER 911, Mass OD?" You murmured as you stepped off the bus, jogging towards the hospital.

"What the hell happened? Are these all ODs?" You exclaimed as you ran over, spotting Warren taking someone in on a gurney.

"Triage situation - red tags to the ER - walking wounded to the clinic - thank you." The megaphone was choppy as you heard Hunt's voice, you waved at him before hurrying into the ER.

"Y/n! Nico's in the OR with Schmitt, I need you to take this patient into an OR and fix their leg." Link ordered, passing you the chart to glance over.

"Okay, let's go!" You murmured to yourself, ignoring how you felt Teddy and Jo watching you from different places of the room.

You were exiting the OR, having finished fixing the patient's leg when Jo appeared, tackling you into a tight hug.

"Whoah, hey, are you okay?" You murmured, wrapping one arm around Jo's waist whilst the other cradled the back of her head. Jo's arms tightened around you as you felt her let out a sob.

"Just wanted to make sure you were okay." She whispered into your shoulder, tensing as you shuffled. She only relaxed when she felt you kiss the crown of her head, smiling as you held her.

Neither of you saw Teddy's confusion as she stood down the corridor, watching the two of you.

Teddy, Link and Webber were all sat in a quiet ER, staring into space. Jo had gone to give Alex hot chocolate, leaving you to tell Link that the patient was in post-op, being monitored.

You paused as you caught Teddy watching, not really thinking as she looked away. Your stomach bubbled but the tiredness washed it out.

Luckily, there was a fresh bed in the hallway, leaving you to curl up on it.

When you woke up, someone had put a blanket over you, you just had no idea who.

You didn't expect to be invited to a party by Jackson. Nor did you expect Jo to try drag you out to find something nice to wear.

You and Jo had a rule, the two of you couldn't shop together for certain things. One of the things was underwear, another was vegetables.

Jackson had invited you because Catherine viewed you as important to the hospital, due to your New York connections, plus, only like 4% of ortho doctors were women.

"So, which pantsuit are you going with?" Jo had asked, but you just rolled your eyes and said the one that was your favourite colour.

"Oh, hey!" Teddy spotted Amelia and Owen from where you and her had been chatting in the corridor.

"Wow, the gang's all here then." Tom Koracick chuckled as he approached, leaving the five of you to exchange looks as Tom hit the doorbell.

"Hey, welcome, guys, welcome. Come on in, make yourselves at home." Jackson instructed as Tom said he would go to the bar to grab the drinks.

"Nothing for me, thanks!" Amelia shouted after Owen as he walked off.

A gasp caught Amelia and Teddy by surprise as they turned to look at you.

"What's-"

"He has a ping pong table!" You exclaimed, not seeing how Teddy smiled at your reaction, whilst Amelia raised an eyebrow.

"Baby daddy is really not happy about you two being close." Tom pointed out, leaving you to grimace as you realised Owen was glaring.

"Yeah, not his best moment... I don't understand why he doesn't like you, Y/n."

"Neither do I, besides you're not that mermaidy." Tom joked, leaving you to sigh and sip the fruit juice you'd ordered.

"But, in fairness, he and Amelia had to say goodbye to both their kids." Teddy admitted, leaving Tom to admit he would fake diarrhea if the two of you wanted to leave.

"Helen?" Jo whispered, looking around before giving Teddy an awkward smile.

"I think Jo and Alex lost Alex's mother." You whispered as Teddy pulled a face.

"I do hate this party." She admitted, leaving you to nod in agreement.

"On top of that, I think Owen still has feelings for Teddy... and I'm worried that Y/n does too. You should have seen how he reacted, especially since Teddy said she wants Y/n in the delivery room too."

"Teddy is always going to be in Owen's life. Baby or no baby. It was this way for Cristina. It's been this way your whole marriage. And your divorce. It's not gonna change. Just make peace with it." Meredith stated, leaving Amelia to take a sharp intake of breath.

"This isn't a love triangle, I thought it was a circle that kept going around and around, but Y/n's going to get her heart broken, just like mine. I'm definitely staying at your place tonight." Amelia stated, walking away to go find you.

"Y/n, I need to talk to you, about Teddy." Amelia pulled you away, leaving Tom to stay with Teddy.

"What's going on?"

"Owen still has feelings for Teddy, and it's only going to get stronger, and you are going to get your heart broken. The moment he sees her, holding his child, he is going to fall even more in love with her, Y/n. I don't want to see you get your heart broken because you're in love with Teddy too." Amelia warned, her hand going to your shoulder as you froze, stomach churning.

"In love with Teddy?" You murmured, looking across the room to spot Tom, Teddy and Owen talking.

"Yeah. Owen's in love with Teddy. This is an impossible situation, Y/n." Amelia replied, not realising that wasn't what you meant.

"Time's never on my side." You chuckled sadly, walking away.

"Y/n!" Amelia called out but you had already gone back over to Teddy.

"What if you go into labour and only S/n's there?" Owen asked as he walked over to Teddy.

"Y/n knows what to do-" Teddy began but Owen frowned.

"But I wouldn't be there. Only her. I wanna be there."

"I want you there, and I want Y/n there." Teddy stated, putting down the glass she was holding.

"You seriously want that, frat girl, in the delivery room? She's an idiot-" Owen retorted, offending Teddy.

"Y/n isn't a frat girl..." Teddy trailed off, glancing at where you were, leaning against the wall with a far away look in your eye.

"Owen, I think Y/n is great, okay? She's been nothing but kind and respectful, and I want her around." Teddy reaffirmed, hand going to her bump subconsciously.

"Teddy, where are you-" Owen's face fell into a glare as he realised Teddy was walking over to you.

"Can S/n not go one evening without causing crap-" Owen grumbled, but he was cut off as Jackson announced that Catherine had arrived.

"She isn't causing crap-"

"She's always causing crap, she's an idiot, she should have been gone intern year, she isn't reliable and I don't want her around our daughter!" Owen's voice was loud enough that the rest of the guests had gone quiet.

Tom was about to step in when you spoke.

"I'm going to go-"

"You seriously think you can be a good parent? You will never be a good parent because you never had them!" Owen shouted, loud enough that everyone looked at you. A sharp intake of breath from Jo had Alex looking worriedly at his wife.

Your limbs were heavy, yet you felt like someone had just thrown ice water over you. Everyone's voices were muffled, like your head was in a fish tank, but autopilot took over. You were already out the door before Jo could get to you, or Teddy could catch up.

The last glimpse of you that Amelia got was you walking out, tears streaming down your face.

   Y/N is dating the one and only Tom Koracick and though they both work at Grey Sloan, they’ve somehow managed to keep it a secret from their co-workers. Is that secret going to stay a secret though when Y/N gets injured?

I am so sorry that it is taking me so long to get through these requests. Life has been kicking my ass lately. 

   You weren’t sure how you two had managed to date for so long without anybody in the hospital knowing. 

It was a miracle. 

   You hadn’t kept it a secret that you were dating someone though...just who you were dating.

“Let’s get Mrs. Mason up to CT,” You looked down at the patient’s chart, “And then page neuro for a consult.”

   With the onset of colder weather and icier conditions, there has been an influx of patients from car accidents. You were always busy whenever on shift, everyone was really, and you partially credited that for being the reason you and Tom were still a secret. 

   You managed to stay busy and away from Tom the rest of your shift. It wasn’t that you were purposely avoiding him, it just happened that your paths didn’t cross. 

   Once you packed up your belongings and bundled up for the walk from the hospital to your car, you wished everybody a good night and headed out. 

“Are you seeing your date tonight?” Meredith teased as you passed her on your way out.

   You laughed, “We’ll see.”

   You walked through the parking lot and got into your car, rubbing your hands once you turned the car on. You saw that Tom had texted you and smiled when you saw that he was just telling you that he would see you soon. 

   Starting to warm up a little, you pulled out of the hospital parking lot and started to head home.

   You weren’t sure how it happened or what even really happened but the last thing you remembered was feeling as if someone had hit your car.

Which was true. 

   It was a tad more severe though. What happened was that someone had lost control of their car due to the ice and crashed into yours, knocking you into the ditch at the side of the road. 

   They were okay, and called 911. Since there was so much ice and you were currently knocked out in your car that had rolled into the ditch, it took rescue services to get you out and into the ambulance. 

   Back at the hospital, Tom was preparing to call it a night when he was called down to the pit for a consult. 

   Just as he walked in, he was nearly run over by paramedics wheeling in an injured person.

   At first, Tom paid no attention, his presence needed somewhere else, but he did a double take when he recognized the face of the injured person.

“What happened?” He asked, rushing over to your side, “Y/N...oh my god...”

“She was in a car accident,” The paramedic informed Tom, “GCS 6. Intubated on the field. Do you know her?”

“She’s a doctor here,” April Kepner jumped in before Tom could say anything. She immediately started calling out orders as the paramedics rolled you into a room and helped move you off the gurney. 

“She’s my girlfriend...” Tom stood there in shock, “Y/N...Y/N is my girlfriend.”

   There was a pause as everyone processed what Tom had just said. It didn’t even last a second though, as April quickly snapped back into action.

“Someone get him out of here,” She ordered, shooting Tom a fast glance before turning her attention back to you.

   Tom was escorted by a nurse to the waiting area. News traveled around fast at Grey Sloan and soon, every person who walked passed him was giving him the sympathetic look. Some people who knew you or Tom better would sit down at tell him that you were strong but he already knew that. 

You had to be okay.

   He wasn’t sure how long he sat in that plastic chair before April came out, an unreadable expression on her face.

“Is she okay?” Tom quickly stood up.

   When April nodded, Tom let out a breath that he didn’t even realize had been held. 

“She’s in the ICU right now...” April said quietly, “She needs lots of rest but I see a full recovery ahead.”

“Oh thank god,” Tom put his hands on his head and April offered to take him up to your hospital room. 

   Tom knew that you were in rough shape but nothing could have prepared him for the pain that he felt when he saw you still unconscious on the hospital bed. 

   You looked so fragile in your current state, a complete opposite to how you usually were.

   Tom walked over to the side of your hospital bed and slowly eased into the chair. He reached out and took your hand into his, gently stroking it.

“Just always have to go and prove that you can bounce back from anything huh...” Tom shook his head, trying to keep the tears in.

   Tom watched as your chest rose and fell, the sight bringing him an immense amount of comfort along with the steady beeping from the heart monitor. 

“I’ll admit,” Tom chuckled, “You scared me Y/L/N...pretty bad too.”

   He watched as you turned your head a little but sighed when you didn’t open your eyes. 

“It doesn’t matter though,” Tom looked down at your hand, “You’re okay...Kepner agrees.”

   Tom went back to looking at your face before gently reaching and touching your cheek with his fingers, almost as if to make sure that you were really here. 

“God...I love you so much.”

"Doctor S/n, I didn't know you were working today." Helm spotted you walking in, lab coat on over your Yale hoodie.

"I'm not, I'm here to write a paper- did I miss you show Doctor Grey the cake?" You enquired, gesturing to the cake that now had slices taken out of it.

"Yeah, she said it was the best day of her life too! Here, take a slice!" Helm grinned, passing you a paper plate with a slice on.

"Thanks. DeLuca, I think it's time for rounds." You nodded to DeLuca, eating a mouthful of cake before heading up to the lab.

"Whoah, no, no, this room is occupied! Take your hormones somewhere else!" You exclaimed as Amelia and Link walked in, about to start making out.

"Oops!" Link gave you a nervous grin as you raised an eyebrow at him.

"Sorry Y/n, we'll just- yep!" Amelia apologised, pulling Link out of the room to go find one that was empty.

Joey: Safe Haven just called, a baby was dropped off at Station 19

Braces: be safe

"Hiding up in the lab today?" Teddy's voice broke your concentration from the text Jo had sent you about her arriving at Station 19.

"I like the quiet." You smiled, smiling even more when Teddy walked over, standing between your legs as you were sat on the desk.

"Yeah, it's nice. Do you know what else is nice?" Teddy smiled, leaning in as your hands went to her shoulders.

"Tell me?" You whispered, about to close the gap when Teddy's pager went off.

"Pierce is paging me, I have to go see what she wants." Teddy sighed, leaving a chaste kiss on your lips before she hurried out, leaving you to huff, reaching for your phone to message Jo back.

Brace: didn't realise pagers could be annoying until they start interrupting things

Joey: haha

Joey: picked up the baby, 3 days old

Braces: are you okay?

Teddy: scrubbing in on a valve replacement with Pierce

Y/n: i almost miss scrubbing in on those

Y/n: almost

Teddy: hmmm

Y/n: I like scrubbing in with you

Teddy: I know

"What?"

"Just take it from me, it's a slippery slope." Webber warned Owen, putting his glasses in his pocket as he raised his eyebrows.

"I'm not dead inside okay? Teddy is in love with Y/n, and I have Leo to look after, and Allison basically has three parents." Owen replied, frowning as Webber smirked.

"Has Altman asked S/n on a date yet?"

"How should I know?" Owen shrugged, leaving Webber to huff.

"I didn't fire Pierce, she quit. But I do think, you should be my cardio chief. And Teddy, you should take Y/n out. You, her and Owen are basically co-parenting Allison, yet you two haven't been out on a date. Take her out, Teddy." Tom stated, turning to walk away as Teddy blinked in realisation that she had forgotten to ask you this morning because she was paged.

Link: get to Jo's now

Link: she didn't give up the baby

Y/n: what?

Y/n: I literally said, "this isn't going to end with you kidnapping a baby, is it?"

Y/n: she bonked me on the nose with a spoonful of ice cream

Link: hurry

"Oh god, it's the police-" Link cut Jo off by opening the door, revealing you in the doorway.

"I texted her and told her to come over." Link explained with an exasperated sigh as you ignored him in favour of making a beeline to Jo holding the Safe Haven baby.

"He had a really hard day."

"Yeah, and it just got even harder 'cause now he's been kidnapped." Link put his hands on his hips, pacing around as you rolled your eyes.

"I didn't kidnap him. I just didn't take him to the hospital right away. He wasn't ready." Jo began to talk in baby voice, leaving Link to make annoyed noises whilst a sigh left your lips.

"Technically kidnapping, so, I'm not going to say I told you so, but I told you so. And, I think you weren't ready, more than him. Now I get why Bailey was so bothered about me spending so much time in the NICU, you're near one baby and you imprinted." You retorted, running your hands down your face.

"I did not imprint. I just wanted him to have one cosy night before a social worker turns him into a pile of paperwork." Jo gasped as a knock at the door had you, Link and Jo jumping.

"Oh my god. It's the cops."

"Who is it?" Link shouted, leaving you to check your phone.

"It's Meredith!"

"Oh, it's Meredith, let her in!" Jo let out a sigh of relief.

"You're not Alex..."

"He's in Iowa with his mom." Jo explained as Meredith walked in with a bottle of wine.

"Well, Cristina sent an obnoxious Irishman as a gift and he stole your husband's old job. And who is that?" Meredith rambled, walking over to spot you sat on the couch next to Jo holding the baby.

"Jo stole a baby." Link stated as Jo asked him to get Meredith a glass for the wine.

"I did not steal a baby."

"Well, that's what I said when I stole a baby." Meredith stated, sitting on the other side of Jo on the couch.

"Why are people stealing babies?" Link asked, looking at you as you shrugged.

"Oh no, multiple traumas. We should go back to the hospital." Meredith announced, leaving Link to come up with a plan to sneak the baby into the nursery.

"Doctor Karev is a Safe Haven volunteer and she is taking the baby to the nursery, right, Doctor Karev?" Meredith explained as Amelia asked who the baby was.

"Yep. Here I go." Jo smiled, leaving you to sigh and follow before Bailey called you over to jump in instead.

"Everyone, gowned and gloved, and keep up." Bailey ordered as Webber and Hunt arrived to help.

"Taryn Helm, hemodynamically stable, tib-fib fracture, but complains of pain in the pelvis, so we need a pelvic x-ray, chest x-ray, F.A.S.T. exam, the works. Webber, Lincoln, Grey, S/n, go." Bailey ordered, leaving you to nod and glove up as the four of you headed into the trauma room.

Your eyes widened as Helm began to talk, under the influence of a whisky sedative and a little bit of fentanyl.

"Can I scrub in?"

"Sure." Link smiled, leaving you to chuckle as you began to prep Helm to go into the OR.

"He got the love of my life fired. Which is you. Surprise. I love you, Meredith Grey. And I know it's stupid and I should get over it, and I will if I ever meet anyone else. I'm starting to think I never will. I thought Y/n S/n was pretty. But she's dating Doctor Altman. I accidently interrupted them about to kiss. I'm embarrassed now, so I'm gonna go prep myself." Helm rambled, her eyes widening when she realised what she had said.

"Thank you for that, Helm. Thank you, we'll have Doctor S/n prep you, okay?" Meredith chuckled, turning to tell Schmitt to head back downstairs.

That was until Schmitt collapsed, grasping his chest.

"I do not miss that guy." Owen admitted as Tom walked out of the OR.

"Altman could do so much better." Hannah Brody added, not noticing how Owen frowned.

"Meaning?"

"Are you serious? Altman's a badass. She's smart and skilled and hot. Koracick's just like a creepy frat-house uncle." Hannah replied, leaving Jackson to interject.

"She has done better, Brody. She's with S/n."

"S/n? She's one of the good ones... I would know." Hannah admitted, leaving Owen and Jackson to raise eyebrows.

"You and S/n?"

"When I was an intern, we broke up because she didn't want to put my medical career at risk." Hannah explained, swearing under her breath when she realised she wasn't supposed to have told anyone that.

"Skin hooks, please."

"Almost done here. If you want to tap out and check on Jo, it's cool."

"No, I'm just hoping she dropped the baby off and isn't still attaching to him. Helm needed a plate and screws, so that's what I'm doing." You replied, hearing Link whisper a 'fair enough'.

"She's hypotensive and tachycardic." You realised as the vitals machines began to set off alarms.

"Page Bailey!"

"Do you think Y/n's okay?" Teddy asked as she and Amelia began to go over the CCTV footage to find Parker.

"She wasn't in the bar. She came in with Meredith, Jo and Link... and a baby from Safe Haven."

"I mean, do you think she's happy? It was pointed out that we haven't been on a date yet." Teddy admitted, leaving Amelia to nod.

"Where would you go? If the two of you went on a date?"

"Talk to me." Bailey stated as she ran into the OR to help with Helm.

"We repaired her leg but her vitals just plummeted."

"She's hypotensive with a worsening base deficit." You added, Bailey asking if Helm's abdomen had been checked, in which it hadn't.

You let out a breath as you walked down the corridor, the injured residents were all out of the woods and you were technically still on your day-off.

You didn't expect a hand to reach out and pull you into an empty patient room.

"Whoah-hey!" You squeaked, hearing the door shut behind you as Teddy smiled.

"Hey."

"What's wrong? Is everyone okay?" You asked, eyes darting over Teddy's face to analyse her facial expression.

"No, I mean, yes everyone is okay, but I need to ask you something, or I want to... uh, I want to take you on a date, do you want to go out on a date?" Teddy asked, smiling as you grinned.

"I'd love to. When?" You murmured as you leaned into kiss Teddy.

"Coffee and now?" Teddy asked as the two of you broke apart from the kiss.

"That would be amazing." You smiled, tangling your fingers with Teddy's as the two of you went to change out of scrubs.

Y/n: i'm back to work today, finally over the flu

Teddy: lucky you, because I now have the flu

Y/n: i'll come over when i have a chance, i'll bring supplies

Y/n: does owen have Leo and Allison?

Teddy: he's got them at daycare, but daycare know to contact you if he's in surgery

Y/n: for both of them?

Teddy: Leo likes you, he heard Jo call you Braces, so now you're 'bwaces' in his eyes

Y/n: wow

Y/n: gtg talk later, remember to hydrate

"Jo's spiralling about Alex and apparently Amelia once camped out at your apartment to avoid Owen?" Link's voice had you raising an eyebrow as you turned to face him.

"You told her Alex will talk to her when he's ready, right? Also Amelia crashed at mine, yes, but that was a long time ago... she basically decided back then she was adopting me as her baby sister... long story." You rambled, confusing Link even more as you were paged to the ER to look at a patient's injury.

"My patient is in love with someone else but her husband has a nose in his arm because he jumped infront of a bear for her!" Jo exclaimed as she found you at the vending machine.

"Uh... that sounds complicated." You raised an eyebrow, throwing the granola bars in your backpack as Jo frowned.

"Why are you stockpiling granola bars? Are you going to hibernate?" Jo asked, picking up one of the bars until she realised it was the flavour she hated.

"Teddy has the flu, Owen had Leo and Allison, so I'm doing a supply run. I know she's a Major and she's all military, cool as a cucumber, but-"

"You're a clingy little kitten when you're sick and now you're really worried about her." Jo realised, rolling her eyes as you grimaced at being called a kitten.

"I thought I grew out of being called kitten. Anyway, I'm going to head over to Teddy's now, I'll see you after you do that patient wash-out with Owen." You smiled, kissing Jo on the forehead before heading out.

"Braces. You don't think Alex has ran into some old girlfriend and left me, right?"

"He'd be an idiot to leave you, Joey." You sighed, almost walking into the door frame before you hurried out to drive over to Teddy's.

Leaving the supplies on the kitchen counter, you ran Teddy a bath and stayed outside the bathroom door as she laid in the water, checking over your phone as Amelia and Jo had messaged you.

"How are you feeling?" You asked after Teddy got out of the bath.

"Better. Thank you Y/n." Teddy smiled, keeping her distance as you nodded, your phone buzzing in your hand.

"Do you need anything else-"

"No, I'm okay, thank you." Teddy nodded, spotting the supplies on the counter as she persuaded you to head out.

Joey: I called Alex, left him a voicemail

Braces: I'm heading over to Grey's to check on Amelia, do you want to meet me after?

Joey: can we go for waffles?

Braces: I love that idea

Y/n: i'm outside

Amelia: Maggie's coming down to let you in

Y/n: okay

"Hey, I brought the snacks you requested." You walked into Amelia's bedroom, spotting her laying in bed.

"Thanks Y/n." Amelia wiggled her fingers, reaching for either the snacks or you, you weren't sure.

"Get over here, you!" Amelia chuckled, pulling you into a hug once you got close enough.

"Thought you wanted the snacks." You admitted, carefully wrapping your arms around Amelia to hug her back.

The hugging only ended when the two of you heard Link's voice downstairs alongside Maggie's.

"I need to talk to him." Amelia stated, raising an eyebrow as you tried to help her as she headed towards the stairs.

"Y/n?" Link raised an eyebrow, leaving you to sigh and pull your backpack closer to you.

"I'm heading out, taking Joey out for waffles because her husband is scaring her by not answering her calls or texts." You announced, slipping past Maggie and Link as you left.

"What waffle are you getting?" Flipping the menu over in your fingers, you glanced up to spot Jo staring into space.

"He's still not answering, is he?" You asked, watching Jo blink back to reality and looking up to meet your eyes.

"What? Uh, no, he's not... anyway, what waffle are you thinking of getting?" Jo replied, raising an eyebrow as you reached over to point at her menu.

"Ooh, that one looks good! I think I'll get... this one!" Jo pointed to the one she wanted, leaving you to playfully roll your eyes.

"What? What was that look for?"

"I missed you." You simply stated, taking Jo back as she frowned momentarily.

"I missed you too." She admitted before the worker came over to see if the two of you knew how to order the food on the app.

/// One Shift Later ///

Teddy paused in walking to the elevator as she spotted how you were staring out into the blizzard, arms folded and jaw clenched.

"What's unnerved you?" Teddy hummed as she walked over, standing next to you to look out into the blizzard for a moment.

"I don't like the cold, reminds me of my parents." You admitted, shivering slightly before you headed back towards the sick ER patients, whilst Teddy went up to the attending's lounge to get changed into scrubs and ready for shift.

Teddy: Leo's stir-crazy at Owen's mom's and keeps trying to open the door

Teddy: But Allison rolled over twice

Y/n: there's a lot of patients with frostbite

Y/n: brings back memories

Teddy: are you okay?

Y/n: i will be

"How'd you know I was out here?" Teddy asked as Tom walked over with two cups of some hot drink.

"I came down to the ER with cocoa, I was looking for S/n, but I saw you and figured Y/n would be nearby." Tom admitted, pausing as he spotted you and Jo huddled up on a bench in full-on coats, hats, scarfs and gloves.

"I'm worried that Owen is the father of Amelia's baby, which is crazy, right? I can't shake it, it's the first thing that went through my mind when I found out that Amelia was pregnant."

"Why do you think that is?" Tom asked, sipping the cup of cocoa he had.

"Because I'm worried it'll throw off our dynamic. Owen, Y/n and I co-parent Allison, then we help Owen with Leo too... another baby in the mix will really rock the boat, and Y/n doesn't sleep if she's looking after them on her own, she's terrified something will happen when she's asleep." Teddy rambled, staring off down the ambulance bay as Tom just nodded along.

"You love Y/n, Y/n loves you and she loves babies, she's just afraid that if something happens, you won't love her anymore." Tom pointed out, waving as Jo and you ran inside, shouting something about your patients.

Teddy: Are you on your way to your apartment?

Y/n: Yeah, I'm setting up to hibernate

Teddy: I'm on my way

"I think Owen is the father of Amelia's baby." Teddy began as you opened the door to your apartment to let her in.

"I don't really know what's going on, but from what I know, Amelia wants Link, regardless of the baby's biology-" You were cut off as Teddy's hands went to your waist, pulling you into a kiss.

"What's happening-" You murmured as Teddy moved to kiss your jawline.

"I want you. I love you, Y/n. And I'm not going to stop loving you." Teddy admitted, pulling you into another kiss.

The two of you were laying on the couch, naked bodies entwined with each other as your phone began to ring.

"Oh shit. I'm going to kill him." You growled as you read your messages.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Teddy murmured, pulling the blanket over you as you sat up.

"Joey called Alex's mom, he was never there, he was never in Iowa. He left Joey. He left her, Teddy!" You exclaimed, getting up to pull on your clothes.

"I'll drive you over, there's no way you're driving when you're this riled up." Teddy interjected, standing up with a small wobble.

"So, now you can feel your legs?" You sassed, grimacing as you realised now was not the time for sassy remarks.

It was Link who opened the door, you shoved past him as Jo launched herself at you, breaking down even more in your arms. Teddy and Link exchanged looks, as Teddy walked in the doorway, meeting your eyes as you gave her a pained expression.

Alex Karev had left your baby sister.

He broke her heart, so you now were allowed to break all 206 bones, just like you'd threatened when Jo and Alex first started dating.

Alex Karev broke your baby sister's heart.

Doctor Y/n - Ortho Fellowship - 5 - Grey's Anatomy x Fem!Reader

"I mean, as it turns out, I am pregnant. With Owen's baby. And Owen and Amelia Shepherd are back together again, and Amelia's sisters have issues with me. Rightfully so. It's not, it's not undramatic, but um, Y/n S/n, she's been kind, so it's not like everyone hates me. And still, Doctor Bailey, I need a job. I really need a job. I need to be occupied with work-"

"I'm guessing S/n didn't mention that Alex Karev is the new chief of surgery-" Bailey interjected, leaving Teddy to pause and lean in to whisper.

"She mainly was grossed out about the state of his office-"

"You're going to need to say all of that again, to Alex Karev... maybe not the office part, tell S/n to tell him that, he might clean it up if she pesters him enough." Bailey explained, picking up her files to walk away.

"Morning Grey, S/n."

You waved at Link as you spotted him propped up against the wall, eating crisps.

"There's a trauma coming in." Meredith stated, looking out at the ambulance bay entrance.

"Yeah, that's why I'm here." Link smiled into his crisps.

"That's how you wait for a trauma?"

"I think I'm gonna go over there-"

"Hey, where's the rig?" Jo asked as she walked over, pulling her gloves on as you hopped from one foot to the other.

"It's not here yet."

"See, Jo and Y/n know how to wait for a trauma." Meredith pointed out, hearing the ambulance sirens approach.

"And now I stand up straight-"

"Nothing about me is straight." You retorted, jumping as fingers poked you in the back.

"Yeah, including your posture." Jo pointed out, chuckling as you stuck your tongue out at her.

"Altman's the tall blonde that that lady-loving ortho fellow hangs out with, right?" Tom Koracick asked, turning to Amelia.

"I am trying to focus, also, the lady-loving ortho fellow is called Y/n, she's basically my baby sister." Amelia stated as she began to look at the skeletal model of the spinal cord for Catherine Fox's tumour.

"What's the story there?" Tom enquired before Amelia gave him a look that told him to stop breaking her focus.

"Post-ops are done, Link. What'd I miss?" Nico asked as he walked in, nodding to you as you quirked an eyebrow.

"You tell me." Link gestured to the x-rays as you and Nico took a closer look.

"She's got a windswept pelvis."

"Windswept?" Jo repeated, frowning as she turned to Link.

"Combination, AP compression on one side, lateral compression on the other." You stated, leaving Link to nod as he pointed out more.

"You see the SI joint here and the sacral fracture there?"

"Are you at least going to put a binder on her first, she has a pelvic fracture?" Meredith asked, glancing at you but you bit your lip and followed Link and Nico up to the OR instead.

"What made you think Link and I would be a good match?" Meredith asked as she walked over to scrub in.

"Okay, listen, before I met Alex, Braces and Link were the best people I knew, and Alex would say the same thing about you, so..." Jo trailed off, turning to look at Meredith.

"How many units have we gone through?" Link asked as he removed lap pads from the patient.

"Eleven." You answered, glancing at Meredith as she spoke to Parker.

"Parker, just so you're clear, we would have gone through fewer units had we stabilised her in the ER."

"Retraction here, Y/n."

"On it."

"Who is she?" Tom Koracick whispered to Amelia as Jo walked in and started talking.

"She's a surgical fellow, studying the future of medicine... Y/n, hey!" Amelia waved as you walked in, nosying over Jo's shoulder.

"Am I dreaming, because she just walked in with a miracle, and she looks like a mermaid..." Tom whispered, leaving you to quirk an eyebrow at him.

"He thinks you look like a mermaid." you whispered into Jo's ear, smirking as Tom stared at you and Jo.

"Thanks?" Jo raised an eyebrow as you chuckled, whilst Koracick tried to wipe the smile off of his face.

"Hey, how's Hunt?" You enquired, eating a mouthful of the weird stew that the cafeteria was doing.

"He's awake, no longer intubated, but he's on fluids since it's flu season." Teddy explained as she sat down next to you.

"That's good, last thing we need is the chief of trauma dying, especially since Kepner quit-"

"He gave me his job." Teddy interrupted you, watching as you dropped the piece of bread you'd been pulling apart.

"So he's not a complete ass, just to me. Oh well." You replied, ignoring how Teddy frowned at you.

"Why does he treat you like that anyway?"

"He reminds me of someone, one of my foster fathers, pushy, grumpy, demands a lot... I had a foster sister called Chrissy, she broke because he pushed too hard and too much, even over simple things, like maths homework. I didn't handle being pushed by him during my intern year, so I ran out of the OR. Callie and Arizona found me crying and they basically adopted me after that, Callie took me under her wing in ortho, and Arizona's like an older sister to me." You explained, pushing the spoon around in the stew as Teddy nodded.

"Owen and I have very different teaching methods." She admitted, glancing up to meet your gaze as you nodded.

"You two will be good parents, as long as there's not too much pushing. I hate seeing people break."

"Do you work for a carnival?" Teddy asked, watching as Tom Koracick walked in with a plate of chips.

"Every other week. Do you want a ticket? I'm Tom."

"I'm sorry I can't hear you over the smell of those fries- oh thank god, Y/n, thank you!" Teddy exclaimed as you walked in, bringing the milkshake she had been craving.

"I have feet on my hands."

"I'm not gonna feed you, unless I have to, or Y/n could do it? What do you say, lady-lover?" Tom asked, leaving you to roll your eyes before offering Teddy the milkshake straw.

"Did you walk all the way to the drink stand on the other side of the hospital-"

"I wanted a smoothie anyway." You interjected, about to grab a fry when Tom pulled the plate away.

"What? Am I not mermaidy enough?" You retorted, sipping your smoothie with an eye-roll.

"Oh, you heard that? Anyway, I tried to introduce myself but you interrupted with your milkshake delivery service." Tom replied, leaving you to glance at Teddy.

"Teddy Altman, new chief of trauma."

"Tom Koracick, world-renowned neurosurgeon. You really want one, don't you?"

"I really do want to dip it in that milkshake..." Teddy admitted, leaving you to chuckle as you removed the milkshake lid, grabbing a fry so you could dip it and offer it to Teddy.

"See, you have two food services, fries and milkshakes." Tom smirked as you passed Teddy another chip.

"If any patients see you like that, they might go to another hospital." Teddy remarked as she spotted Tom playing Operation.

"Always gets me in the mood. Plus, lady-lover won't play it with me, she's too busy with her lacrosse stuff, I mean, lacrosse really?" Tom remarked, looking up as you glared at him from the other bench.

"It was one of two sports I was semi-good at. Also, I won't play because I don't know how to play whatever that is." You retorted, glaring at the lacrosse stick mesh as it detangled itself.

"Funny bone, not as easy as it looks. S/n, see, that's how you play Operation!" Tom teased, leaving you to roll your eyes.

"Okay then, I have real patients. Y/n, are you coming?" Teddy asked, glancing over at you, you stood up quickly, lacrosse stick in hand as you walked back with Teddy into the hospital.

"Hey, Braces, what are you doing today?" Jo asked as she spotted you walking in with Teddy.

"I have two video calls, then I have a surgery in the afternoon with Link." You explained, checking your phone for the time.

"Wait, who are you videocalling?" Jo frowned, grabbing you by the wrist before you made a getaway.

"Torres then Robbins. I will see you two around." You smiled, waving before hurrying away.

"Y/n! How are you doing? You look happier!" Arizona cheered as her face popped up on the screen of the video call on your end, whilst her end of the call showed you sat in an empty lab, chin propped up on your palm.

"Yeah, I know Teddy! I'm so glad you two know each other, you're like little lights in each other's lives- we've talked, Teddy mentioned you a couple of times, you two seem to be really great together!" Arizona grinned, leaving you to pause.

"Yeah, she wanted a fresh perspective on everything-"

"You gave her more than a fresh perspective Y/n. You're one of the reasons she stayed in Seattle, she even spoke to Callie about the project you and her are doing, she seemed interested-"

"I'm the ortho fellow, who, as a resident took a 5 hour flight to keep working on her day off." You deadpanned, ignoring the bubbling in your stomach as you and Arizona kept chatting.

"Y/n, do you want to get a drink?" Teddy enquired as Tom Koracick walked away from her.

"I know a place that does really nice hot chocolates?" You suggested, tilting your head to the side slightly as Teddy smiled.

"Sounds great!"

You smiled as you sat with Teddy, sipping your hot chocolate as Teddy chuckled, pointing out the whipped cream mustache you'd acquired.

Your phone buzzed as it lit up with notifications from the photo you'd taken of the two hot chocolates you and Teddy ordered. But it went ignored as you and Teddy kept talking.

Doctor Y/n - Ortho Fellowship - 6 - Grey's Anatomy x Fem!Reader

"Hey. It's snowing." Owen announced, smiling as Teddy grinned at the idea.

The two of them stood in coats, watching the snow fall.

Until they heard a shriek, spotting you being pelted by snowballs thrown by three children of a patient who had gotten too impatient for the waiting room.

"She's having fun. What are you guys doing for Christmas?" Teddy enquired, her eyes still on the snow as Owen turned to look at her.

"Oh, you know, Leo's too young to absorb any of it. But, I think we're going to do presents and cocoa and cinnamon buns and all that. Hopefully some of it will stick." Owen explained, smiling as Teddy kept looking at the snow, until he realised she was watching you play with the children on the other side of the area too.

"And Amelia has to visit Betty. So we're gonna um, have Christmas dinner tomorrow night, and Amelia wanted to invite you."

"No, no, no thanks, no. I'm covering for you in the pit, remember?" Teddy reminded him, her hand subconsciously going to her bump as she looked up at the sky.

"We're gonna find our own traditions, too." Owen smiled, leaving Teddy to nod.

"I know, I've already found one I may have borrowed from Y/n. Merry Christmas Owen." Teddy smiled before heading inside.

Owen paused as he watched you guide the three children back inside into the warm of the ER, a frown on his face as he thought.

"Braces! You're coming to our New Year's Eve party, right?" Jo caught you drying your clothes with a towel.

"Uh, yeah, do you need me to bring anything?" You enquired, tilting your head to the side as Jo grinned.

"Yourself, maybe some of those dried oranges? They'd contrast the decorations really well if we put them on a cake?" Jo asked, smirking as you looked at her confusedly.

"How'd you know I was drying oranges-"

"Because you smell like dried oranges, and cinnamon, you smell really good actually." Jo complimented, laughing as you paused to sniff your scrubs.

"Don't let the rumour mill hear that, Joey." You chuckled before walking away, waving at Link dressed as Santa.

"So, you're spending Christmas on shift too?"

You paused as you sipped the coffee you'd just poured, meeting her eyes with amusement.

"It's that or sitting in my apartment alone. The apartment smells like christmas, but I don't really celebrate, besides food. The presents depend on my friends love languages." You explained, turning so you and Teddy could walk down the hallway together.

Your eyes widened as you arrived at the Karev's loft for the New Years Eve party.

"You look grumpy. What's up?" You enquired as you spotted DeLuca frowning.

"I got stood up." He grumbled, shrugging before walking away to the bar, leaving you to frown at the empty space left behind.

"Oh, would Ben think it's a booty call? He might think that that's a booty call." Bailey asked Teddy, who raised an eyebrow as you walked over.

"Well, maybe that's not such a bad thing." Teddy suggested, running a hand over her bump.

"I second that." You stated, smiling as Jo gave you a side hug.

"Hey everyone, it's almost midnight!" Jo announced as Alex began to hand out champagne.

"I'm good, I have cake!" You smiled, laughing as Alex chuckled at the slice of cake in your hand.

"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!"

Everyone cheered as you turned to meet Teddy's eyes, her smile meeting them as you mouthed "happy new year!" to her.

"Happy new year, Y/n." Teddy mouthed back, smiling as you ate the slice of cake you'd been holding.

It was only when you'd eaten the slice of cake that she moved forwards so she could ask you to dance.

"Y/n, Owen's running late, can you walk me up to my scan?" Teddy enquired as she spotted you by the nurses station.

"Sure, is everything okay?" You replied, walking with Teddy towards OB.

"It's just an ultrasound, but I think we'll be able to find out the sex today." Teddy admitted, smiling as you nodded.

"I'm happy for you, Teddy." You smiled, about to leave when Teddy grabbed your hand.

"Owen's late, I need to get back to the pit, can you stay?" Teddy asked, smiling as you took her hand, standing to the side in case Owen arrived.

"Hey, sorry I'm late- you already started? What is she doing here? S/n, what are you doing here?" Owen asked as he walked in.

"This gel is really cold, and I have to get back to the pit. I wanted Y/n here." Teddy stated, shivering at the coldness of the gel.

"You said we were going to do these things together. You can't just- S/n, you can go now." Owen dismissed you, but Teddy didn't let go of your hand.

"What do you want me to do? Every time I have to be a parent, I wait for you?"

You zoned out, chatting to the nurse who was doing the ultrasound as Teddy and Owen began to argue.

Luckily, the heartbeat of the baby shut both of them up, leaving you to smile softly and try not to feel awkward as they had their happiness.

"We're having a baby girl." Owen smiled, hugging Teddy as she dropped your hand to hug him back.

You smiled at the two of them, ignoring the ache in your chest by slipping towards the door.

"Don't judge me. I saw a bed. I laid down on it. My feet are very angry at me." Teddy stated as Tom found her laying in a bed, running her hand over her bump.

"I know what you need. You should get S/n to take you, her name is Mimi at Pink Bunny. Best mani-pedi in Seattle."

"Why does that make perfect sense that you have a favourite nail salon?" Teddy chuckled, leaving Tom to mention not wanting to dig around someone's brain with sloppy cuticles.

"If you ever want to experience pure bliss for $29, let me know, and I'll wrangle S/n in somehow, I know, I'll tell her it'll make her more mermaidy." Tom smirked before heading out.

"Hey, I got you... whatever this is, I know you can't help your cravings, but this is a unique combination." You stated, arriving with what Teddy had admitted she had been craving for a few days.

"You are a lifesaver!" Teddy admitted, taking the food with a grin as you rolled your eyes.

"Are you talking to me or the food?"

"Braces spending Valentines Day alone?" Jo gasped as she spotted you picking through a box of chocolates that had been left in the fellows lounge.

"Oh please, I only ever spent one Valentines Day with someone, so it's nothing new." You retorted, flicking one of the foils from the chocolates at her face.

"Mm, you and Leah, I remember-"

"You knew?" You murmured, ignoring her eyes as Jo sat down next to you.

"I figured it out at my wedding, you and Leah had vibes... and now I know who defiled you by covering you in hickies-"

"Oh my god!" You cut Jo off by throwing a chocolate into her mouth.

"Hey. Are you ready?" Teddy's voice had you looking up from the fellows lounge sofa.

"Yeah, do you want a chocolate?" You enquired, gesturing to the chocolate on the table.

"I'd love one, thanks lady-lover." Tom interrupted, taking a chocolate as you playfully rolled your eyes.

"This isn't a date, is it?" Tom chuckled, leaving you to roll your eyes as you and Tom followed Teddy to help her search for houses to move into, so she wouldn't be staying in the hotel anymore.

Then, after that, Tom had persuaded you to go with them to the nail saloon.

"This is better than sex." Teddy admitted as she got a pedicure, leaving you to chuckle as Tom admitted that every pregnant woman he'd brought to the establishment had said the same thing.

"Am I here as a third-wheel-"

"If anything, Y/n, I am the third-wheel here." Tom admitted, raising an eyebrow as you gave him a confused look.

"Oh, oh, dinner is here- nice colour you went with by the way Y/n." Tom added, giving you a soft smile as you tensed.

"You sound like the foster father I never had and that is terrifying because-"

"Oh, god no, I was aiming for fun uncle or older brother. Shepherd and apparently Robbins have already adopted you." Tom remarked, winking at Teddy as she quirked a brow.

You were laying in bed when your phone begin to ring, revealing Arizona wanting to video call.

"Why are you in bed, it's like 7pm for you-" Arizona began, pausing as you rolled your eyes and wrapped the blanket further around you.

"I'm cold and lonely, why are you calling at 10pm? Is Sofia asleep? Am I interrupting anything? Wait, you called me." You realised as Arizona chuckled.

"No, no, nothing like that, Callie's on shift and I realised we hadn't spoken since before Valentines, which I saw you spent with Teddy and Tom Koracick? Were you third-wheeling that or-"

"He said he was the third-wheel, like, yeah, Teddy's absolutely amazing and beautiful, and a badass, but she's having Hunt's baby." You rambled, not noticing how Arizona was smirking more and more as you spoke.

Because it sounded an awfully lot like you liked Teddy Altman.

"If you're not gonna leave, at least be quiet so I can sleep." Jo grumbled as Meredith woke her up.

"Are you like this when Y/n has nightmares?" Meredith let out a breath, recovering from her bad dream.

"How long are you planning on doing this for?"

"Until you talk to me. Altman's doing the same thing with Y/n, after she broke down in Teddy's arms." Jo frowned, turning away from Meredith so she couldn't see the tears forming in Jo's eyes.

Teddy paused in brushing the piece of hair from your face, your eyes snapping open as a sad whine left your lips.

"Oh god, sorry, I did not mean to wake up and whimper at you." You apologised, sitting up from where you had fallen asleep on Teddy's couch.

"Did you build that before going to sleep?" Teddy asked, gesturing towards the now-built rocking chair.

"Maybe... are you happy with what colour the walls are? I painted Sofia's bedroom walls with Arizona before, I can repaint them?" You asked, taking the offering of coffee as Teddy presented you with the mug.

"No, it's fine, it's perfect, her nursery is becoming perfect. You've been a huge help, Y/n. I just wish I could help you in return." Teddy sighed, looking down as you wouldn't meet her eyes.

"What's happening?" You enquired, walking over to where Webber, Link and Amelia were looking into the conference room.

"Nothing good." Webber replied, folding his arms as you glanced in.

"That looks like a legal team... forget I said that." You chewed your lip, hurrying away as you saw the looks of panic on the others' faces.

"We're wasting time, I already know he's got a broken coccyx, he's got a textbook presentation-"

"Textbook implies certainty, which I prefer to get from the scans. Now, I see why you and Y/n don't get along, besides your assumption she was in peds."

"I didn't realise she was gay, I just assumed it was a rainbows and unicorns scrub cap." Nico grumbled, ignoring how Teddy raised an eyebrow at him.

Meredith: it's just as bad as you said it was, maybe worse

"Paul? Everything he did to me? Everything I escaped. That was my birthright, Meredith." Jo whispered, blinking back tears, "that was my inheritance."

"My birthright was to be created as part of the facade of a family, and when that facade grew too tiresome, I was to freeze to death on the streets of Seattle, aged 10. The reasons we came into this hot mess of a world weren't because of love, but that doesn't mean we don't deserve it, Joey." Your voice had Jo glancing up from her bed, spotting you walking through the door before you flopped on the bed, getting hit with a pillow by Meredith as you landed.

"You should have told me you were on your way." Meredith stated as you looked up from the mattress.

"Well that would take away from my dramatic entrance, wouldn't it?" You replied, smile fading as you saw Jo's face.

It was only when Meredith began to argue that Jo wasn't the trauma and the violence that had happened to her in her life that a small smile crossed your face.

"Is this you telling me you need a few more days under the covers until you can go back to work? Or is this you telling me that you want to stop?" Meredith asked, watching as Jo wiped a tear from her face.

"I don't want to stop. And I do."

"Okay, so we are going to go talk to Bailey. We're gonna talk to Alex. Y/n's literally lying on your legs, so you can talk to her, I know you don't want to talk to them, but we have to get you the right kind of help. We have to get you a proper leave of absence so that your career is waiting for you when you come back. Come on, Jo. We have you, please. All you have to do is get up and take a shower." Meredith stated, gesturing for you to get up as she got out of Jo's bed.

"Are you telling me that I stink?"

"Actually, I think that's my job, since Steph is busy exploring the world and sending postcards every once in a while. And, I never lie to you, Joey... so I brought you some cherry body wash to persuade you." You giggled, passing her the bottle of body wash as Jo burst into laughter.

"How many Yale hoodies do you own anyway?" Meredith teased as you, her and Jo went looking for Bailey.

"I am not at liberty to answer that... and Cody and Mac have been calling me about Rory, crap, I'll be right back!" You stated, kissing Jo on the forehead before hurrying to find an empty room to call Cody back.

Teddy paused as she walked out of the OR with Tom, spotting you running around on your phone, wearing a Yale hoodie instead of your usual navy blue scrubs.

"She's running around like a chicken on a mission- are you okay?" Tom enquired, as Teddy said she needed to do something.

"Teddy!"

"Oh, I, I, did I just open a time portal?"

"Oh, Leo has a cold, Owen is stuck in traffic-"

"Are you two back together again, because I do not want to go down that road-"

"No, no, no, I'm with Leo, I'm just here with Leo... Auntie Amelia, uh, come in, we're making a bottle. I'm also about to call Y/n, I need to check up on her and her pending heartbreak-"

"Pending heartbreak? Is Y/n okay?"

"Uh, doesn't matter, uh, just out of curiosity, what road are you going down?" Amelia enquired as she put Leo down in the high chair.

"I love Y/n, and it's scary, because she's young and-"

"You love Y/n, not Owen? She's going to kill me..." Amelia exclaimed, leaving Teddy to frown.

"What, why would Y/n want to kill you?"

"Because I told her to she's going to get her heartbroken because I was so sure that you were in love with Owen, and Y/n's in love with you-"

"Y/n's loves me back?" Teddy realised, "I have to tell her I love her, before my daughter is born and she slips away because she thinks I'll get with Owen-"

"You are aware that you are leaking?" Amelia pointed out, leaving Teddy to look down at her feet.

"Yeah, my water broke around 'Auntie Amelia' but I had to say all of that before I go into labour." Teddy admitted, leaving Amelia to ask if they should be heading to the hospital.

"Thanks Bailey, we'll be in soon. Okay, babysitter's on the way, Bailey is expecting us." Amelia carefully put Leo down.

"I want my mom."

"Oh, uh, okay? Can I, should I call her?" Amelia asked as Teddy began to cry.

"She died a long time ago."

"Uh, okay, what would she say, if she were here?" Amelia asked, passing Teddy a chunk of tissues.

"She was a planner. She made lists, so she'd be so angry with me. The only reason I have the nursery set up is because Y/n and Owen actually put up with each other and built the stuff with Tom. We never did make it to the birthing classes, and we haven't even talked about baby names... can you call Y/n? My mother would be so mad that I want her, she's not the baby's father, but I want her, my mom would see that I want her so badly it hurts- whoah, oh god!"

"Okay, first contraction and here, it's dialling Y/n's mobile." Amelia stated, prepping the phone up on the couch as she began to time Teddy's contractions.

"Amelia? Are you calling to lecture me about being in love with Teddy again-" You were cut off as you heard Teddy's cries.

"Oh my god, ow, ow, ow! This is not normal!"

"Teddy? Are you- that sounds like a contraction!" You exclaimed, grimacing as Amelia was told to shut up.

"Because it is a contraction! I'm sorrry, I'm sorry I snapped." Teddy began to apologise as Amelia stated that it was okay and that is what women in active labour do.

"Are we thinking that maybe we should have called an ambulance?!" Teddy yelled as Amelia realised half the city was covered in fog and the freeway was closed due to a multi-car pileup.

"What are you doing? Where are you going?" Teddy asked as Amelia took her seatbelt off and got out the car.

"Stay here!"

"Where would I possibly go?" Teddy yelled as Amelia ran off somewhere.

"Y/n, please, please, please, tell me you're at the hospital and you're going to be there when I arrive and deliver this baby, please-" Teddy whimpered, hearing you panting as you began to sprint around the hospital.

"I'm heading to the ambulance bay, I am going to be there, Teddy." You affirmed, squeaking as you almost crashed into a crash cart.

"Nico, you have a new job, Y/n's going to be busy helping Doctor Altman give birth, so it's all you." Link stated, heading over to where Nico was sulking.

"I really think that in another life, you and I could be friends." Teddy admitted to Amelia as they sat in the back of a police car, heading to the hospital.

"Well, then, why don't we just decide to be friends in this one?" Amelia asked, wincing as she realised you were still on the phone line.

"Because you told Y/n that I would get with Owen, when I don't want Owen. I want him to co-parent, but I don't want to date him, I don't want to marry him, I want to marry her!" Teddy exclaimed, pausing as Amelia covered the phone speaker.

"I think that you should tell Y/n that, when you're not in active labour, and she's not running around the hospital like a headless chicken." Amelia replied, removing her hand from the phone speaker.

"Are you still in love with Owen?"

"I mean... maybe a little. But I fall in love easily and quickly. I mean, I could very well be in love with someone else by the time your baby comes." Amelia replied, glancing at her phone as she heard crackling noises.

"Y/n?"

"I'm the opposite. I used to be so determined to not attach to anyone, because I thought they would leave. But then I caught feelings and it didn't work out because she was an intern. Then it didn't work out with my other ex because she was looking at fellowships not in Seattle. Then I caught feelings for a third time, and I'm told it's only going to end in heartbreak, but I keep falling, freefalling, y'know..." You rambled, pausing as you remembered you were on speaker and Teddy could hear.

"You know, the last time Owen and I broke up, I walked in on him and Carina, and I was more jealous of him because I had a little crush on her, which is, like, the reason I masturbated for her in that study, which led to my brain tumour being diagnosed-"

"Oh god, that study, I forgot about that. All the women got asked to do it..." You chuckled for a moment.

"Owen and Carina? Like, my OB Carina?" Teddy exclaimed, leaving Amelia to bit her tongue.

"Ohhhh no..."

You were silent as you were stuck listening to Teddy yelling in pain over the phone.

"Doctor Bailey! Y/n!"

"Shepherd, what the hell?" Bailey exclaimed as Teddy and Amelia arrived in the back of a police car.

"You dated my OB and you didn't think to mention it?" Teddy shouted as you helped her out of the car, walking her towards the ER entrance.

"I am so sorry!" Amelia shouted as she ran to you both with a wheelchair.

"Ohh, that's complex." Bailey added, as Owen tried to explain himself.

"Owen, she's in active labour!" You exclaimed as you, Amelia and Owen began to run Teddy in the wheelchair towards the ER.

"You called him Owen!" Amelia realised, making you grimace.

"Yeah, now my mouth tastes funny."

"No, no, no one knows but Y/n-" Amelia explained to Maggie as they sat at Meredith's kitchen table.

"And me, who somehow knows about everyone's wombs."

"Tell me more about Jackson and the firefighter." Amelia suggested, wanting a distraction from the topic of her pregnancy.

"Wait why did you tell Y/n?"

"She is a good secret keeper." Amelia retorted, noticing that Maggie was nodding in agreement.

"Hm, yeah. Anyway, he says that they're just friends, but he's lying."

"Owen got paged to trauma, so I dropped off Leo." Teddy explained as she bumped into Amelia whilst pushing the pram with Allison in.

"How are you holding up?" Amelia enquired, looking up at Teddy instead of cooing at Allison.

"Three hours of sleep last night. Y/n didn't get any, I think she's too terrified to sleep in case something happens. New record either way." Teddy admitted, letting out a breath.

"Wow. Yeah I have no idea how I'm gonna, um, how I would ever... hey Y/n!" Amelia waved, spotting you walking over with a very large cup of coffee.

"Precious my precious." You whispered, letting out a small moan as you sipped the coffee.

"Well, that's a noise I wouldn't expect in this context." Amelia smirked, noticing how Teddy cleared her throat and you avoided looking at both of them.

"I have been running on coffee since intern year, I think my blood is becoming coffee... hey, I'm being paged, I have a couple of surgeries in a bit, if you wanna sit in the gallery?" You suggested, smiling timidly as Teddy smiled back, nodding in thanks.

"Hey."

"Hi, hi, what are you doing here?" Teddy looked up from where she was changing Allison's nappy on a bench.

"Koracick. What are you doing here?" Owen enquired, frowning at the mention of Koracick.

"Failing. I mean, really, deeply failing, in the poo-covered publicly humilating way. Even Y/n's better at this than me and she just babysits Rory." Teddy whined, moving over as Owen took over and cleaned up Allison.

"Why don't we talk a tour of the hospital? I got a couple of scans to look at and I'm not ready to say goodbye to you both yet." Owen suggested, heading around to push the pram.

"You're just humouring me, like I'm not missing the smell of blood and going to sit in the OR of Y/n's surgeries today." Teddy chuckled, leaving Owen to roll his eyes.

"Hey, you want to help me find a new hiding spot?"

"How about the OR? Y/n's in surgery, oh, don't look like that, Y/n isn't as bad as you think." Teddy replied, carrying Allison as she and Owen headed up to the OR where you were working.

Teddy smiled as she spotted you working in the OR, waving as you grinned under your surgical mask. You were about to place the pins in, a similar surgery you'd performed with Doctor Torres when you were an intern.

"Wow, time has flown. I should go-" Teddy began to pull her coat on, realising it was getting dark outside.

"I think you should stay."

"If I don't get her down, she is gonna be a nightmare in the morning." Teddy chuckled, pausing as your voice came through the intercom.

"I think Owen means you should stay at work."

"As much as it pains me say this, Y/n's right. Teddy, I think you should stay at work, okay? Come back. I'll stay with Allison for a while..." Owen grunted, looking constipated as he looked down at you, "Y/n can help out too, since you want her around. And she is good with Allison, and Rory..." Owen admitted, grimacing as you looked up at him with a quirked brow. Almost like you were in disbelief that he just complimented you.

"Teddy, you're happier when you're at the hospital, ever since she was born. In fact, you're happier whenever... Y/n and/or I are around to help. You love it here, and a happy mom is a better mom, so just do this. We're all going to be better off." Owen pointed out, leaving Teddy to smile.

"You really want to stay at home with her?"

"He doesn't want to play hide and seek with Koracick anymore!" You retorted, laughing as Owen ended up nodding in agreement.

"Okay, I'll go change, Y/n, I'm scrubbing in!" Teddy declared, hurrying out of the gallery.

Owen raised an eyebrow as he looked down into the OR, spotting you looking confused.

"Looks like I'm getting a cardio consult?" You asked, looking up at him as he shrugged.

"Hey! Did you hear about my ALPPS procedure that I did with Meredith over video call?" Jo asked as she turned on the intercom to the gallery, pausing as she spotted Teddy watching you as she stood by you in the OR, "oh, hey, Teddy! Didn't realise you were working!" Jo exclaimed, smirking as she noticed how you awkward you were under her gaze, plus Teddy's.

"Maybe we shouldn't read the news today, should we, Allison?" You murmured as Jo sent you a link to an article that Meredith had apparently written.

Allison cooed in response, stirring as you walked around Teddy's apartment, rocking her gently as you walked.

"She's going to Owen's mom's today; he's going to drop Leo off at daycare too." Teddy explained, pausing to take in the view of you holding Allison.

"Don't look at me like that," you chuckled, carefully passing Allison to her.

"Look at you like what?" Teddy quirked a brow, looking up at you as you pulled Jo's Harvard hoodie on over your head.

"Like you're in love with me, or something."

"But I am." Teddy stated, stepping into your personal space for a moment, the two of you sharing intense eye contact until Allison let out a cry.

"I think she wants your full attention." You replied, grabbing your backpack so you could head out, feeling Teddy's gaze on you until Allison let out another noise.

"I think I scared Bailey." Jo announced as she found you walking away from CT.

"What? How did you scare Bailey?" You looked up from the CT results on the tablet, raising an eyebrow as Jo chewed her lip.

"She complained she was too warm and I asked if it was her heart and she had this look on her face... oh, god, Braces, what am I going to do?" Jo whined, grabbing your arm so you would face her.

"Not dig a deeper hole for yourself? I'm being paged, I'll see you later, okay, Joey?" You replied, kissing Jo on the forehead before you headed out.

"Pelvis x-ray shows a type II A.P. compression fracture. Wait, a guy fell on her?" You asked as you looked over the x-rays.

"Yeah, the guy fell on her. Cops think he was a stowaway on an international flight." Vic explained, leaving you to frown slightly.

"Helm, get the ultrasound. Reminds me of a guy in Germany who snuck into the wheel well of a 757. All was fine and good until they hit cruising altitude." Teddy stated as she set up the tubes.

"What happened at cruising altitude?" Helm enquired, prepping the ultrasound gel on the patient.

"It's colder than Everest and even less O2. Brody, let's order some bilateral leg films." You explained, pausing as you met Hannah's eyes.

"And when the landing gear opens, it's like dropping an ice pack on the ground from a mile high." Teddy added, leaving Vic to finish.

"But the ice pack is made of blood and muscle tissue, so, splat."

"As soon as I finish getting this binder on, you can move her." You stated as Maggie asked for more scans to be ran.

"I think that's her boyfriend out there panicking." Hannah pointed out, leaving you to glance up as you spotted Link going over.

"I think Link has the boyfriend covered." You stated, swallowing as you met Teddy's eyes.

"Good to be back?" Maggie asked, glancing up at Teddy as they worked on the patient.

"You have no idea. But I love being a mom, too." Teddy replied, looking up at Maggie.

"No judgement here, Meredith calls bowel resections her 'me time'." Maggie replied, smiling as Teddy chuckled.

"Would you be willing to tell her how much I loved her article?" Helm interjected, leaving you to snort.

"Um, yeah, Helm, sure." Maggie blinked in confusion, looking at you as you chuckled to yourself.

"How amazing and important and just perfect it is?" Helm added, leaving you to finally interject.

"Helm, I'd cool it and just go with one of those three."

"And that she's still my mentor even if she doesn't work here anymore?" Helm added, leaving you to sigh, giving up.

"I will pass it along. Alright, clamping the aorta." Maggie announced, moving to the next step.

"Alright, we are going to stop the heart with cardioplegia so we can replace the aortic root."

"That's weird, the heart's not stopping..." Maggie noticed, leaving you to frown.

"Cardioplegia's not working?"

"Looks like the blunt injury also caused a coronary artery dissection, so we're gonna have to pass the cardioplegia through the coronary sinus so we can get this heart to stop. Y/n, can you harvest a vein from her leg-" Teddy was cut off as the aortic root started rupturing, leaving you to shuffle down in attempts to set up for vein harvest.

"Time of death, 16:04. Injury was just... it caused too much damage." Maggie announced, sighing as she looked down at the deceased patient, still open on the table.

"It's not just the medical system that's broken, it's the whole world. Why'd the stowaway have to fall out of a plane? And how bad was his life that he had to climb in the plane to begin with? And why did this girl, who could have been anywhere in the world, been in the worse possible place? The whole world is broken. Now I have a baby and it just makes the world so much scarier." Teddy's voice crackled as she stared down at the deceased patient.

The patient was only nineteen.

"I can close." Maggie stated, letting you and Teddy leave.

"Yeah, well, um, thanks, but, you didn't fire me. I quit and I have already taken a job at a very up and coming area hospital. Y/n, you've got Karev trying to sneak up on you." Owen pointed out, leaving you to spin around and spot Jo about to kangaroo jump hug you.

"You did?" "What hospital?"

"Oh, Alex told me you went to Pac-North!" Jo realised, leaving Owen to hide his grimace as you put your hand over Jo's mouth.

"It's not a dirty word-"

"Yeah, but it's a dirty place. You call me, when you see the error of your ways." Tom replied before walking away.

"Wow. Wow. I hate that guy." Owen grumbled, leaving you to chuckle before yelling an 'ew' as Jo licked your hand.

You didn't think that Cody would want his bachelor party by renting a beach house and a speedboat. Or that you would be invited to said bachelor party.

"You are not parading around the speedboat in a wetsuit, we aren't even hiring a jetski!" Cody laughed as you walked over, clad in shorts and a tank top.

"Ugh, I knew you'd say that, I just hate-"

"All your scars, yeah, I know, I lived with you in college dorms, Lacrosse." Cody replied, his hand on your shoulder as you folded your arms.

"I don't like-"

"If anyone comments, I'll shut them down, okay?" Cody stated, squeezing your shoulder before letting go so you could change.

"How are you and Mac doing with Rory?" You enquired as you sat down, having changed into your swim gear.

"Rory loves it when you babysit, but Mac is handling it so well, and I thought I'd be terrible at first, but I can run on coffee if it means that Rory is okay." Cody grinned, sipping his iced coffee as you smiled at him.

"Rory misses you both too, you know. Don't go thinking there aren't tears when you two go off on date night." You chuckled, messing with the metal straw of your drink.

"OH MY GOD! HELP!"

You and Cody immediately jumped up, spotting the problem.

"Holy- TURN THE MOTOR OFF! Cody!" You exclaimed, not even hesistating as you jumped from the speedboat into the water.

"You know, Cody, Mac and I used to go to karaoke bars in college. I'd always sing Paramore, I wouldn't sing anything else, it was always some Paramore song..." You reminisced, resting your head back on the couch so you could stare up at the ceiling.

You didn't see Megan mouthing words to Teddy, who kept getting caught watching you in awe.

"How old are you anyway?" Megan asked, biting back a smile as Teddy spluttered her water.

"You can't just ask her that-"

"I took a gap year, I'm actually a year older than everyone assumes. I'm a year older than Joey too... I don't know when my birthday is, only the month." You explained, eyes on the ceiling as your fingers ran across the guitar strings without really thinking about it.

"How do you not know when your birthday is?"

You didn't really acknowledge who spoke, your eyes still trained on the ceiling as a tear escaped your eye, rolling across your face.

"I never celebrated it, social services also had issues with my birth records, plus, I wasn't really abandoned with my birth certificate." Your sarcasm had Teddy reaching for your hand, as Megan frowned in concern at what you were saying.

"They figured out the month, I knew I was ten, but it was the nurse who treated me for hypothermia that figured out I was ten and so many months, I guess. I used to celebrate the month with Joey, but we forgot after our intern year, I guess." You replied, momentarily closing your eyes as you remembered intern year.

Your eyes only snapped open when you felt Teddy holding your hand, squeezing it gently.

"You look like shit- wait are you going in today?" You looked up from where you were sat on Jo and Alex's couch.

"Wow, Braces, thanks." Jo grumbled, leaving you to climb over the couch, tackling her into a hug that had her landing on the bed.

Jo didn't giggle like she used to, leaving you to sigh as you rested your ear in place to hear her heartbeat.

"I love you, Joey. Don't say it back, I don't want you to... I love you, all of you, don't forget that." You murmured, kissing Jo on the forehead before getting up and grabbing your bag to head to work.

"I'll see you at work." You called out as you headed towards the door.

"I'll be in the lab." Jo brushed you off, leaving you to sigh before heading out.

Teddy: No, actually, Megan really likes you

"My Altman or my S/n? Y/n is basically my baby sister I never had, so I have no idea where you're going with this-"

"Somebody so good and unbroken and kind, that they just seem wrong for you, but really? should be together. Altman and S/n don't realise it, but the chemistry they have? It's stunning." Tom rambled, leaving Amelia to sigh.

"Oh, Tom. You poor guy, poor Y/n too, Teddy's going to end up with Owen and Y/n's going to get her heart broken, even more than it was when Owen's sister turned up and thought Owen and Teddy were together." Amelia replied, pausing as Tom frowned.

"What? What's that face?"

"Owen hates Y/n, but Megan likes Y/n. Y/n loves Teddy, Teddy loves Y/n back, but you think Owen and Teddy are still going to happen." Tom replied, frowning more as Amelia frowned.

"Because I could see that Owen only has eyes for Teddy."

"She rejected Owen, Amelia. Why not give her the benefit of the doubt with Y/n?" Tom suggested, meeting Amelia's eyes as doubt washed over her.

"Because I don't want to see Y/n get hurt again. Last time she got her heartbroken, she didn't even realise she had appendicitis. Arizona and Jo found her at Seattle Pres, then weeks later, she's getting the crap beat out of her by Jo's ex-husband. I can't see Y/n get hurt. Tom, I'm telling you this as a friend, Owen and Teddy are inevitable, and Y/n's going to get hurt." Amelia explained, leaving Tom to frown before Link arrived with the stem cells for a surgery.

"S/n, whatever you have to tell me, better be better than Doctor Kim managing to kill his patient after a percutaneous vertebroplasty." Bailey exclaimed as she found you waiting in her office.

"Doctor Torres will be flying in so that she and I can perform a surgery here at Grey Sloan, the patient is in British Columbia, Canada. Doctor Lincoln is also aware of the procedure and has been discussing it with Doctor Torres and I. It's part of the collaboration that Doctor Torres and I have in place... but that look on your face says I've chosen the worse time to tell you-"

"No, no, I just wonder if the same mistake would have been made in the percutaneous vertebroplasty if it had been you doing it. Email me what you have about this surgery with Torres, S/n." Bailey replied, dismissing you from her office as you nodded.

Y/n S/n: She made me go to work before her, she must have started drinking after I left, dammit

Y/n S/n: I can't excuse her behaviour, but what happened in Pittsburgh, it uprooted everything she knew and stole her happiness away

"I know you think you're being brave, by fighting for Teddy and Y/n to happen, but I don't think that's what's happening here. I don't think Teddy and Y/n will happen, your hopes about their chemistry or whatever, are way up-"

"Hope scares you, it scares Y/n. That's why she hides in the NICU, that's why you're hiding behind a very pretty, very decent guy to cover up the fact that you're still hung up on Owen Hunt. Y/n hides up in the NICU so she can hide from her feelings." Tom replied, chuckling as Amelia pulled a face.

"The thing I've learned, is that life is a series of choices. And that sometimes, there is an easier, softer way. Link is uncomplicated, yeah. And it is so refreshing, it is like, diving into a cold pool on a hot day. Am I hung up on Owen? Sure. Maybe I always will be. But am I using Link? No. I'm just choosing an easier path. Y/n needs to find a path that doesn't end in heartbreak. Because she's been hurt too much, by the people she loves... she might want to try the easier path for once." Amelia admitted before walking away, leaving Tom to spot you. You had heard everything.

You sighed as Arizona left you on read, about to throw your phone when a message from Alex lit up the screen.

Alex: She threatened to leave me if I ever went to Pittsburgh

Y/n: Don't go to Pittsburgh! I'm serious, don't, she'll never forgive you, just like she won't forgive me if I tell you what happened

Alex: I know. She won't forgive either of us, and you two are basically sisters.

"Hey!" Teddy called out to Owen as she spotted him waiting for the incoming trauma.

"Hey. How's the furniture hunt?"

"Crappy, especially when I think about what I had in Germany, but Y/n's been helping build things, and you helped too-" Teddy was cut off as she spotted you walking over to stand on the other side of Owen.

"Y/n, have you been crying?" Teddy pointed out, watching as Owen glanced at you.

"I'm fine. The trauma case is inbound... Schmitt?" You raised an eyebrow as you, Teddy and Owen went over to the ambo.

"What are you doing in there?" Teddy frowned as Levi jumped out.

"I was on the scene, John Doe, collapsed and passed out on the street outside the flower shop. Loss of consciousness, GCS 13, systolics in the 130s, has a scalp lac from hitting the pavement. No respiratory distress."

"Alright, let's get him into trauma One." Teddy announced, pausing as she spotted you running back into the ambulance bay as another trauma came in.

"He is mildly tachycardic." Levi added as they moved to trauma one.

"Schmitt, you just saved the Fire Chief of the City of Seattle."

"Hydrating? Nice work, Altman. What about Kegels? You keeping those up?" Tom asked as he found Teddy drinking from her water bottle.

"Stop now. Don't even make me laugh, I'll pee. Anyway, what I haven't been keeping up with is Y/n. Does she look like she's been crying, to you?" Teddy enquired, gesturing to where you were checking over a patient in one of the trauma rooms.

"Hmm, let's see. Y/n, get over here!"

"Tom!" Teddy squeaked, pausing as you walked over.

"You beckoned, Koracick? Teddy, are you okay? You know, with your due date being only three weeks away?" You asked, your eyes softening as you turned to Teddy.

"As long as you're okay with still being in the delivery room with me and Owen?" Teddy raised an eyebrow, leaving you to let out a breath that almost sounded like a sad sob.

"I told you, as long as you want me there, I will be there... I need to take my patient up to CT, I'll see you two later." You nodded to them before walking away.

Tom quirked a brow as he noticed that Teddy was watching you walk away, only looking at him when you were out of sight.

"Yeah, she's been crying." He confirmed, pausing to look at Owen as he walked over.

"What do you think Y/n was crying about?" Teddy enquired over her bag of crisps.

"You should probably talk to her about it, she threw a tube of pringles at me when I tried talking to her. But, from what I could figure out, it's a lot of things she's upset about- oh, speak of the lady lover and she shall appear." Tom remarked, pointing you out as you walked in, lunch in hand.

"Do you want my lunch? I'm not hungry." You gestured to it, placing it on the desk as Teddy reached for it.

"Doctor Altman, I need your help!" Jo exclaimed as she ran in, avoiding your eyes as you flicked the empty packet of crisps that Teddy was holding into the bin.

"I'm gonna go... bother Link." You murmured, heading out.

"Braces-" Jo was cut off as Teddy gave her her undivided attention.

Teddy: Jo's not quite alright and neither are you, what happened in Pittsburgh

Y/n: I'm not messed up about Pittsburgh

Teddy: What's upsetting you?

Y/n: That I'm cursed.

Y/n: I have to go into the OR, later.

"S/n, Bailey needs you in her office."

"I don't know, they went to Pittsburgh to look up her birth mom and she came back a totally different person. S/n's locked up tight, won't talk about it, but she knows. And I have no clue what happened, and I'm not allowed to ask. She's my wife and I'm not allowed to ask!" Alex exclaimed, pausing as you knocked on the door.

S/n, do you know what's going on with Jo Karev? Is there anything you can tell us, since you won't-"

"It's not my story, it wasn't my bio mother that she met with, it was hers, and the story that was told, broke her. She won't let anyone else pick up the pieces, not me, not you, Alex. And if we try to pick them up, we get slashed by the sharp edges. So, stop asking me, because getting slashed by the sharp edges, hurts like hell." You snapped, tears dripping down your face before you hurried out.

"You called me for a consult?" Teddy asked, finding Tom in one of the neuro rooms.

"Well, S/n paged me, so-" Tom's smile fell as you appeared in the doorway, tears flooding your face as you gasped for breath, sobs replacing your breathing.

"Oh my god, Y/n-" Teddy shuffled forwards, immediately wrapping her arms around you as you broke down.

Doctor Y/n - Ortho Fellowship - 10 - Grey's Anatomy x Fem!Reader

"How was Pittsburgh?" Teddy enquired as she walked around the apartment that she had admitted would be perfect to raise her daughter in. It was a three bedroom apartment, which Teddy had also admitted would be easier to keep clean than a three bedroom house.

"Joey came back a completely different person, but I don't blame her." You admitted, picking up the screwdriver so you could continue to construct the changing table.

Owen had wanted to do the crib, so you were sat on the floor in the living room, pouring over the instructions as Teddy sorted things out from her spot on the couch.

"Does she regret going?" Teddy asked, folding up clothing as you glanced up, giving her a hesitant look.

"I think she wishes she could go back and unlearn what she learned, but that isn't an option." You replied, letting out a sigh as the changing table began to actually look like a changing table.

You chuckled as you heard Hunt grumbling over the instructions for the crib, feeling Teddy give you a playful look as you shrugged.

"I did offer to help."

"Y/n, what the hell happened in Pittsburgh?" Alex caught you walking down the corridor, gently taking you by the arm so you'd stop walking.

"Nothing good." You stated, gently pulling away so you could continue down the corridor.

"S/n, please tell me why an assistant district attorney is sat in my office, waiting for you?" Bailey said loud enough that almost the entire ER heard it.

Owen's face melted into a glare as Teddy raised an eyebrow, looking for your reaction. Alex frowned, reaching for your arm again, but you let out a breath as Bailey passed you the business card she'd been given.

"Oh, oh my god!" You squealed, immediately grinning as Bailey raised an eyebrow, following as you all but ran up to the chief's office.

"Well, I don't think it's a lawsuit..." Teddy admitted as Alex realised.

"Oh, it's that ADA!"

"Mackenzie Griffin Lawson, you should have called first! You made my co-workers think you were delivering me a lawsuit!" You exclaimed as you spotted Mac standing in front of the chief's desk.

"Wow, full name, I actually scared you. Sorry, Lacrosse, we were so excited to meet Rory, especially since the paperwork was approved." Mac grinned, walking over to hug you.

"I'm sorry, it appears Doctor S/n here did not inform me of your reason to be here." Bailey interrupted, giving you a look that had you swallowing nervously.

"Mac is my friend from Yale-" you began, but Mac squeezed your shoulder, silently asking to explain.

"Lacrosse here, Doctor S/n, to you, had some contacts in the adoption agencies, my fiance and I are looking to foster Rory. The paperwork was approved, so I came here to tell Lacrosse, along with give you this, an invite to our wedding." Mac explained, passing you the envelope.

"Please join us for the marriage of Mackenzie Lawson and Cody Washington... oh my god!" You grinned, turning to Mac who beamed at you.

"Wait, wait, Cody Washington as in, the Cody Washington?" Bailey realised, leaving you to chuckle.

"Cody Emilio Washington, my college dormmate, and yeah, that electrical engineering computer science guy who has his face on a magazine, despite the fact he hates the picture." You explained, smiling as you spotted Cody talking to someone.

"Codes is here too, he's chatting with the social worker, we wanted you to take us up to Rory?" Mac asked, glancing at Bailey before squeezing your shoulder again.

"Rory passed the car seat test last week, but has been kept in the NICU for development due to the lungs not being fully developed at 7 months. I take it with the paperwork, you've got everything set up?" You asked as you walked Mac, Cody and the social worker up to the NICU.

"Yeah, Lacrosse, you were a big help suggesting pinterest." Cody admitted, grinning as you turned to face him.

"Bet you had fun building it all, Tinkerer." You teased, smiling as you waved at the NICU staff, making a beeline for where Rory was.

"This is Rory." You smiled, walking over to where Rory was napping.

"My ex-husband he hurt me. Not in the way that you were hurt, he hit me, he hurt me, for years. And I was so, so terrified, and so convinced that no one would believe me, and I was so, so alone... the only reason I got out, was because the girl who has become my sister, saw something and got me out. I never had the chance or the choice to hold him responsible, for the pain he caused me, and the pain he caused her... I can't imagine how you are feeling right now, I can't. But one day, you might feel differently. You might want justice, and I want you to have everything you need to do that." Jo whispered, feeling Teddy's eyes on her as Teddy realised who else Jo was talking about.

You were sat with Cody and Mac when a bad feeling washed over you. Mac frowned, watching you shift in your seat.

"Are you alright?" Mac whispered, Rory was asleep in Cody's arms.

"Bad feeling... excuse me." You replied, slipping out of the room quietly so the social worker could talk to Cody and Mac.

Your phone buzzing had you running to where you needed to be.

Taking your spot, your back against the wall as you stood with all the other women of the hospital, united.

Your eyes met Jo's, a mutual understanding as you nodded slightly, meeting Teddy's eyes next as she gave out a soft smile of thanks.

A tear dripped down your face as they went into the OR, your legs wobbling as you headed back up to the NICU.

"Hey, what's-" Cody began, but he fell silent as you sat down next to Rory, letting out a breath as you watched Rory look around the room.

"You two are going to be great dads." You murmured, watching as Rory's whole hand wrapped around Mac's finger.

"Lacrosse, Y/n, we plan to foster than adopt Rory, but if anything happens to us, we want you to be the legal guardian of Rory." Mac explained, glancing up to meet your wide eyes of shock.

"Me?"

"You're good with kids, Lacrosse... you're also stronger than you think." Cody whispered, his hand on your shoulder before you hugged them both.

Teddy found you in the car park, pacing up and down instead of going to the bus stop.

"Hey... hard day?" She asked, but you just quirked a brow, knowing her day was worse.

"Remember Rory? Well, I pulled some strings and Rory has some really amazing foster parents now, I went to college with them... and got invited to their wedding... I can't get what happened with yours and Joey's patient out of my head. How are you doing?" You replied, reaching out to touch Teddy's shoulder.

You didn't expect her to pull you into a hug.

"Jo's ex-husband hurt you both?" Teddy whispered into the crown of your head, leaving you to tense.

"He showed up here, I had to make sure he was leaving, but he caught me... if it wasn't for DeLuca, I would have been beaten to a pulp. But what he did to me in that car park? Nowhere near as bad as what he did to Joey in the past. That's why I wasn't going to let him hurt her ever again." You affirmed, pulling back slightly to explain before Teddy pulled you close again.

"Do you want me to build anything tonight? I don't think I can shut my mind off to sleep." You enquired, pausing as Teddy brushed a piece of hair from your face.

"I don't want you to be alone right now." She stated, her arm still around you as the two of you walked over to her car.

Alex: Jo still says she's sick

Y/n: I don't blame her, after everything

Y/n: don't push her, okay?

Alex: I'm not going to, I love her

Y/n: I know you do

Braces: are you okay?

Joey: I'm fine

Braces: I don't think you are

Joey: then why did you ask

Braces: because i care about you

"The apartment's really coming along, Y/n's been helping a lot-"

"Does she sleep over there? Oh fun, reunion!" Tom remarked, cutting Teddy off as she kept rambling about you.

"So, the apartment's coming together?" Owen asked, leaving Amelia to state she was going to see a consult in the pit.

"So is Y/n building the breakfast nook yet-"

"You called her Y/n and not lady-lover?" Teddy realised, leaving Tom to smirk as Teddy walked away.

"What is wrong with you? Why didn't you two tell me that you had finally gotten together?And we're having a baby! Oh my god!" Megan Hunt exclaimed loud enough that you heard across the ER.

"You okay?" Amelia murmured, spotting how you had winced.

"No... no I'm not." You admitted, your hand hovering over your chest as the feeling like a boulder was crushing it washed over you.

Teddy winced as she was pulled into a hug, pausing as she spotted you having trouble breathing.

"Well, I kind of want to defend you, but it never goes well whenever I get in between you and Megan... and, I don't want to be with you like that, Owen. There many potentially be someone else I have my eye on..." Teddy admitted, leaving Owen's face to fall as Megan have her an incredulous look.

"Y/n, what's going on?" Tom walked over, pausing as he spotted you curled up on the floor with Amelia.

"That's Hunt's sister, she thinks Teddy and Hunt are together and I think I am having a panic attack, or a heart attack, or my heart is just shattering in my chest-" You rambled, curling further into Amelia until she spoke.

"I warned you not to fall in love with Teddy!"

"Well, it wasn't a planned fall, I free-falled!" You exclaimed but Tom had already walked off and into the trauma room where Teddy, Owen and Megan were.

"Altman, you know, a human has 206 bones but only one heart, right?" Tom walked in, leaving Owen and Megan to raise eyebrows.

"Yes, I know that, where are you going with this?"

"Y/n's is falling apart out there-"

"Where's Y/n?" Teddy immediately forgot everyone else in the room, clearing her throat as Megan spoke.

"Who's Y/n?"

"Ortho fellow, Hunt here hates her for unknown reasons, but she's actually rather charming, and that's coming from me." Tom remarked, ignoring how awkward the room was getting.

Link: you went with Jo to find her birth mom?

Y/n: It didn't go well, don't push her

Link: how bad did it go?

Y/n: bad.

"I'm having great sex, I'm having aerobic sex! I mean, I'm waking up with endorphins-" Maggie cleared her throat, spinning the chair around so Amelia would stop talking.

Her eyes met yours as you covered your face with your hands, having been brought to the blue room to calm down from your heartbreak over Teddy. Now, you were trying not to laugh your ass off.

"Doctor Shepherd, meet the students from the STEM leadership program. Doctor Shepherd is our Chief of Neurosurgery." Bailey explained, giving Amelia a glare as she blinked in realisation.

"Who can define 'endorphins'?" Amelia asked, acting like she hadn't just been talking about aerobic sex a minute ago.

Joey: did you send Link over to my home?

Braces: No, I think that was Alex, I'm busy getting heartbroken

Joey: what happened?

"What are you doing?" Megan asked as she found Teddy sat on her laptop.

"Hey. Oh, I'm trying to baby shop, but I have no idea what I'm doing and I am going to fall at new parenting. Oh, and apparently, I need more clothes and rags than I think I do, or whatever Y/n said." Teddy rambled as Megan looked over her shoulder.

"You're baby shopping, without Owen, Teddy?"

"Owen and I are going to co-parent, but-"

"I watched you suffer from afar for years, I watched you love him for years, and I watched you suffer some more. What changed? My brother is single and you love him and you always love him-"

"I don't... I don't see him like that anymore, because he has seen me as a second choice. There is someone who put me first..." Teddy admitted, pausing as she spotted you walking by.

"He has Leo and a crib- is that her, you want her?" Megan realised, spotting Teddy watching you.

"I don't know, I just, she makes me feel loved, she's so kind and considerate, and gentle, she actually considers my feelings, but she's young and would never see me that way." Teddy replied, playing with her fingers as Megan's eyes widened.

"Teddy, that neurosurgeon said you were breaking her heart, what if she overheard me think you and my idiot brother were together?" Megan theorised, leaving Teddy to pause.

"But I want her there... I want her in the delivery room, she's amazing with babies, you should have seen her with Rory. I'm so glad you're here." Teddy smiled, reaching for Megan's hands to squeeze.

"I did the same thing to a guy in high school, and then there was Paul..." Jo rambled, leaving Link to interject.

"Now, you left Paul to save your life."

"No, Braces helped me, she refuses to leave, even if I tried, she's stuck with me, not like a tumour, but she made me feel worthy, even when it's in my wiring. My mother was a runner, she still is. Apparently she can't even sit in the same room as me, even if she says she loves me. And my father... I always run, it's what I do." Jo grumbled, getting up to grab another bottle of vodka.

"I think you've had enough-"

"I don't really care what you think." Jo snapped, opening the bottle's lid.

"But you care what I think." Your voice had Jo and Link looking up, spotting you in the doorway with your arms folded to your chest.

"What are you doing here?"

"Bothering you, apparently. I'm kinda hard to get rid of, it's the abandonment issues you see. I'm terrifed to get close to people in case they leave, but then, I'm terrified to let them go once they get close." You retorted, grabbing the bottle of vodka from Jo and putting it out of reach.

"You're not drinking?" Link enquired, watching how you hadn't even eyed the bottle.

"I have to meet Hunt's sister. Depending on how it goes, I might be crying into a tub of ice cream later." You replied, raising an eyebrow as Jo began to giggle at cartoons.

"Aren't you going to help her?" Link whispered, but you chewed your lip.

"Her entire belief in her existence was uprooted, I have no idea how to help because I have kept myself from uprooting my existence for years. I have four unopened envelopes with explanations I have never been able to think about reading. Joey went out with hope and came back with her soul crushed. I don't know how to comfort her, because she'll push me away. I have to go, tell Alex I'll be by later, might crash on his couch." You replied, heading out as Link frowned.

"Y/n-"

"I'm in love with someone who doesn't love me back, because time's never on my side, that's my curse. Joey and I? We're both cursed." You shrugged, standing in the doorway before you headed to go meet Megan Hunt at Teddy's new place, the place you'd been helping her put together.

This was going to be interesting.
