In this chapter, we focus on mother-son bond and an important decision is made regarding Serena's future!

As for why kid Ash has grey eyes and not brown... in the old anime he is described to have black eyes, so adapting it to the new graphic we decided to keep his eyes dark grey as a kid and brown grown up. Many people experience a change in eye color while growing, so this is the case for Ash in our headcanon!

In Memory of Unshō Ishizuka (石塚運昇) 1951-2018

Today’s trivia will be a short and sweet one since I did this last minute upon hearing Ishizuka-san’s passing last week. For those of you that don’t know, Unshō Ishizuka is the Japanese voice actor for Professor Oak AND the Narrator of the Pokémon anime since the very beginning in 1997. He also did other voices for the anime such as Unova Champion Alder, Principal Samson Oak, Gurkinn (grandfather of Korrina) and numerous Pokémon that he’s voiced over the years! He is also known for lending his voice in other hit series like Naruto, Dragon Ball, Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, Tekken, Persona, Attack on Titan, Digimon Tamers, Initial D, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Gin Tama, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, and Xenosaga to name only a few of his works. His deep and strong voice is what made him a very talented voice actor for mature male characters. This post will be dedicated to him <3

DID YOU KNOW?

Out of over 1,000 episodes of the anime’s history, and being the only Pokémon professor to appear in ALL series/regions that Ash has traveled to, Rotom is currently the only Pokémon that Professor Oak caught on-screen when he traveled through the Decolore Islands meeting up with Ash, Iris & Cilan to help him with research work. It also MIGHT be the only Pokémon he personally owns in hand since we always see Rotom lurking around in the background whenever Ash gets a calls Oak’s lab in Pallet Town, and was even featured in all of Okido’s Holo Casters during the duration of the XY series. However it could be argued that he still owns a Pidgey (caught off-screen in EP245) and a Dragonite (battled with in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon special), but the status of those Pokémon are unknown...maybe we’ll them again in future?

One thing’s for sure is that all of Ash’s past Pokémon are under his gracious care at the lab, and we couldn’t have asked a better professor to do so!

Thoughts on all the ridiculous edits 4Kids did (these jelly filled donuts are great!) and them removing/adding scenes in some of the movies?

Some edits are fun but I really prefer keeping dubs close to original source material as much as possible. And I only know of 4ever adding that scene that further explains that Yukinari is Prof Okido but honestly, it was meant to be subtle hint, 4kids doesn’t trust kids being able to figure it out? XD (I actually haven’t seen that scene so I’m not truly judging it atm!).

Yeh I’m ‘keep dub close to source material‘ gal but outside of being rude to japanese culture and all it’s fiiiiine.

Regarding birthdays for people in my fics, I tend to look at a few things. The first is whether or not there’s already a canon birthday. If there is, great. Fantastic, actually. If not...

That’s when the research starts.

Despite not being into it myself, I tend to look up birthday personalities/horoscopes a lot when deciding on a birthday. I feel like it adds a nice hidden element to a character. Sometimes I’ll narrow it down by looking up first appearance dates in manga/anime, release dates for games where they appeared, or even VA birthdays. Other times I’ll just go through as many as I can before I find one that I like.

As you can imagine, this process takes a while. 

Anyway, the whole reason I’m explaining this is because this is what I was doing for my pokemon fic this morning. You know, before I wrote myself into a hole somewhere down the line because I didn’t establish it now. I kind of already tripped up a bit with Riley, but it’s going to be fixed by the next chapter.

Oh feck kid!Kukui has Firium-Z! I thought it was Gaogaen-Z but I guess Firium makes more sense!

How I know? Pokenchi preview showed Kukui showcasing the crystal to Satoshi. I’m quite intriqued to know what the story is gonna be like between kid!Kukui and Satoshi. What details does Kukui remember.... this is truly Pokemon 4ever vibes (btw, I rewatched it a week ago, man I like the movie. I remember not realising that Yukinari was Okido until I watched a an episode of.... might have been Sun and Moon’s Kanto episodes where I heard Professor Okido being called by his first name, Yukinari. Or maybe even Diamond & Pearl, or Best Wishes! It was somewhere... XD)
