I love the idea that everyone gets involved when Zuko and Katara finally decide to get married. They decide to get married in the Fire Nation but make sure to include customs from the Water Tribe. This causes Sokka to be way too involved. Katara as already decided to wear her mom's old wedding dress because she just couldn’t say no to her grandma along with knowing her dad would be happy to see her use it. Suki and Toph help Katara with her vows and picking out jewelry. Aang and Sokka help Zuko pick out wedding bands. Even Azula gives Zuko her opinion on Zuko's vow and what he should wear and what should be included in the ceremony because " Not because I actually care, but I don't what you disgracing what is left of the royal family", so she claims.

Along with pleasing the fire court and sages, almost all decisions somehow need to be run by Sokka because he has an opinion on EVERYTHING. From the time the ceremony starts, what direction guest should be facing, should Zuko be standing 5cm to the left or 2 cm to the right to get the perfect lighting for pictures.

A week before the wedding it all became way too stressful for Zuko and Katara. They just want to be married and start their life together but everyone (specifically Sokka) has become way to invested and what they wanted to be a simple ceremony has somehow become the social event of the century. This is why 3 days before the big day Zuko and Katara disappear.

While Sokka is having a mild cardiac event and the fire court is in shambles. Zuko and Katara escape to Ember Island.

''I wish we could stay here forever, without having to worry about any crazy wedding planning" hums Katara while laying in Zuko's arms on one of the private beaches of Ember Island.

" I know my love, but duty calls Fire Lady Katara"

"Future Fire Lady Katara. If we even make it in time for our own wedding or the fire sage don't burn us both alive for running away"

"I'm more concerned about your brother killing both of us"

"Oh god. I know that marrying the FIRE LORD would never have allowed us to just have a simple wedding but how did we let it become this giant circus orchestrated by Sokka. I'm pretty sure I overheard him discussing where to place a box of fireworks before we ran off"

" We love are family and they just wanted to give us the best, Kitkat'

" I know but my dream wedding you be just me and you here on the beach. No one else"

With that, a lightbulb goes off in Zuko's head and he slowly gets up and brings Katara up to her feet.

" Marry Me Katara"

" I was supposed to tomorrow but we ran away if you didn't remember" Katara chuckles.

" Sorry. I meant marry me right now"

"What?"

" There's an old chapel on the other side of the island run by an old fire sage who retired a few years ago. We go right now and get married"

" We can't"

" Why not?"

" Be..be..because..."

"You're right we have allowed this whole wedding to be turned into a circus to please our families, but this is our marriage. This should have always been something we planned together something between just me and you. Why can't we be selfish this one time. Let's get married right now. Our vows should be between us anyways not spilled out in front of the entire Fire Nation when doves are flying around and fireworks going off"

Katara stays silent for a few moments too many to make Zuko comfortable.

"Kitkat?"

"Ok"

"OK?"

"YES! Let's do it!" Katara yells as she jumps into Zuko's arms

"Let's do it" Zuko catches her and smiles.

And with that Zuko and Katara get married just the two of them and and fire sage (who promises to keep it between them) in an old broken down chapel on Ember Island. Tears streaming down both their faces as they make their promise and vows to be together forever, through thick and thin, just the two of them.

They make it back in time for their "actual" wedding the next morning. Sokka spots them first walking hand and hand down a palace hallway. Beyond pissed but just happy they are finally back in the palace, Sokka rushes them to get ready as they quietly whisper ( Bye Wife/ Bye Husband) as they are separated. Luckily, Sokka doesn't hear them.

Later that night they are officially presented as Fire Lord Zuko and Fire Lady Katara in front of their family, friends, and Fire Nation. Sokka and the rest of their family forever questioning why they always celebrate their anniversary a day early.

So I'm currently watching Gossip Girl and there are these side characters who also show up to demand certain main couples get together (basically they're in-show shippers)

My headcanon is that the Gaang are famous enough that this also happens to them on occasion and Katara is horrified when some girls in a village believe that she belongs with Fire Lord Zuko and keept bombarding her with questions about their relationship. She can't tell them that it's impossible because she is in a secret relationship with his sister haha Zuko is his usual awkward self and is completely unhelpful

Although I'm Zutara through and through, I've come to peace with Maiko.

Why? Because of the iconic line ''I love Zuko more than I fear [Azula]''.

I thought the chemistry was great between Zutara, plus the old woman said to Katara she would marry a powerful bender so I thought for a moment that there was a chance for Zutara. They were both strongheaded, both the older sibling (yeah Katara is younger than Sokka, but she's more of a grown up) and both had lost an important part of their family, taken from them by Ozai or his men. Their journeys revolved around Aang and his quest for peace, they were both underestimated but a lot of pressure was put on their shoulders nevertheless, and, let's be honest, I love a good ship ''stern-and-hurt-by-life-young-man''x''mother friend of the group and somehow geek (she wanted that waterbending scroll so badly!)'' (which is more or less the LizziexDarcy relationship, she's not a geek but she reads a lot)

And what I didn't like with Mai was that she didn't seem to have much personnality compared to Ty Lee or Azula, apart from being Azula's dogsbody and the goth of the cast.

But then, everything changed with the episode of the Boiling Rock prison or something. Mai was clearly pissed off by Zuko's departure, which was completely understandable, but she was showing a bit of emotion!

And then, she drew her knife against Azula and said her line, and not only did her other characteristic that I didn't like (her blind obedience for Azula) disappear, but that was a nice reversal of allegiances which I simp for almost as much as a good period drama hat-waving. Plus, it made Ty Lee react and break free of Azula's chains, so it was nice for that too, because nobody want to see bubbly Ty Lee in a toxic relationship.

So anyway, still loving Zutara (in my personnal headcannon, which is possible because I never watched LoK, they wrote a lot while she was rebuilding the southern water tribe and he was de-warculture-ing the fire nation, they became adults and at 20-something they got married, since he was firelord and Sokka could take over as Chief after Hakoda instead of Katara, they moved to the Fire Nation and had kids, Aang became a nomad and married a bendless girl in the group that reinvested the temples with flying machines and restarted the air people, Sokka et Toph got in cursed-lovers-mode since she couldn't see with ice and he had to rebuild the tribes...) but I get why Maiko is how it ended, and I see that Mai loved Zuko enough to stop pretending being without emotions (which might have been a coping mechanism with the fact she's the daughter of a fire official in a political regime she doesn't agree with), so... yeah.

If Zutara isn't possible, Maiko is the second best.

Zutara shippers are guilty of this too, but Kataang shippers are way more guilty of it.

The fact that a Zutara shipper can be expressing their genuine feelings about Kataang, and get accused of rage bait and not watching the show really bugs me.

Ultimately it’s not that serious. This is tv show from like ten years ago, with a huge fan base, theirs going to be different interpretations of characterization and romances.

If you can’t handle that, you really don’t deserve to be in the fandom. These aren’t real people, they’re fictional characters, and people having headcannons and disagreeing with your ship does nothing to stop you.

Like I said I am biased, since I am a Zutara shipper but I honestly think Kataang shippers are way more guilty of it.

Like me talking about Aang and Kataras relationship wasn’t handled well, doesn’t stop you from shipping them. But you harassing me and saying borderline insulting that I didn’t watch the show, is rude. Plain and simple.

Once again, this is a children show from ten years ago with a wide fanbase, so if you find someone you disagree with, there is no need to be mean to them, and act like these are real people.

I remember that one of your first posts i've seen in the zutara tag what's about writing a fic that explores a bit of swt customs with hair more specifically about a katara haircut i'd love to read it bc i feel like the cartoon don't explore any of the cultures in depth and in fics i see a lo about fire nation culture i want to read about swt culture bc as many i headcannon it different than nwt culture

I will actually be covering those traditions in the current fic I'm writing. I haven't gotten to that point yet. But with Zuko and Katara's recent talks, I'll be sliding in some of those traditions.

I also feel that Zuko would embrace Katara's cultural traditions because he becomes much more open-minded about change post-war. I think Katara and the rest of the Gaang had that impact on him.

But as far as traditions go in indigenous cultures, they all view marriage differently. I know pre-christianization my Tribe saw it as you live in the same home as your partner. Therefore, you are bonded together in spirit. If you had sex with someone, it was for life. That kind of thing.

Some tribes have ceremonies, some didn't. I'll be reading up on Inuit traditions here in a bit.

Then there is the practice of tattoos. I really want to explore that as I do believe that Inuit's practice some sort of ritual with tattooing. I have to do my research on that.

Cutting the hair is a big no in most tribes. Mine is a bit more lax about it.

But anyway, that is the plan!

Phantom of the Opera x Avatar (Zutara)

First off, I'm a bit of a softy for a redeemed Phantom so "my casting in a word is... Ideal."

Obvious casting is Katara as Christine and Zuko as the Phantom. I know the mask would cover the opposite side of the Phantom's face to cover the scar. I'm cool with that, where do you think this idea came from?

The rest of the acting troupe HAS to be the Ember Island Players. It's what makes it funny.

Bonus casting:

Suki as Meg (Christine's friend)

Sokka as one of the managers of the theatre. Especially bearded Sokka 🤣🤣

Aang as the Viscount (Christine's suitor). But wait! I said Zutara! Cannon they get together, bit for this they don't. I'm not the biggest fan of this character sooooo..... *shrug* is not like he's an evil character anyway. He's meh (not talking about Aang). This is reformed Phantom headcannon where Phantom and Christine end up together.

Toph as not sure. I think she'd be funny as any character but especially the dance instructor. Like seriously, if this was just a Halloween picture idea I'd probably get a kick out of her being the "Melon Lord of the Opera"

Hi Anon, thank you for the ask, and your patience! I've been neglecting my asks, but not today! lol

I do have some Taang headcanons! Believe it or not, they were my OTP back in the day, and they still have a special place in my heart :) But enough chatting. Let's talk about headcanons!

I like to think of Toph and Aang as the people in the Gaang that get together last, but they somehow end up married first (that is, in a Zutara/Sukka/Taang universe lol). They deny their feelings for quite a while because they're best friends, but then they can't ignore it anymore and they start to date! And then a month or so later, they end up married (kind of a What Happens in Vegas vibe haha!) But Toph and Aang are rather chill about this, and they just move on as a married couple LOL.

They settle in Republic City, mostly because they like the area and because they are prominent figures in getting the city up on its feet.

I like to HC that they have four oops kiddos haha! All were happy accidents, and the dunebaby names are Lin, Gyatso, Suyin, and Kenji. The girls are earthbenders, and the boys are airbenders. The babies are pretty spread out, but I like to think that Lin and Su are still born in 120 AG and 126 AG respectively. Helps me keep track of the timelines haha!

The Beifongs have a very busy and hectic life, but Toph and Aang always find the time to be with their family and to travel around the world. As the kids get older, they take them on Avatar business trips more often than not. But when they were little, Toph and Aang typically left them with their grandparents. They liked having their work trips and family trips separate as much as possible in the beginning.

Aang and Toph aren't big on PDA, but I like to think Toph's love language is touch, so she'll often stand close to Aang so their arms touch, or she'll pat his hand or lean her head on his chest for a second. Aang definitely likes to prolong these moments lol.

Aang is an early riser, and Toph isn't. But she's a light sleeper, so even though Twinkletoes gets out of bed quietly, she knows that he's awake and she finds it hard to fall back asleep without Aang there. So she's usually up with him, albeit a lil grumpy lmao.

Aang and Toph are the fun uncle and aunt. They like to wreak a bit of havoc and convince the steambabies or bladebabies that breaking the rules is okay LOL. The other members of the Gaang get a bit of a headache whenever Auntie Toph and Uncle Twinkletoes visit, but they are grateful for a bit of parenting reprieve.

They don't argue with each other much. Well, they do, but it's typically about things that aren't that important. They did argue a bit early on with some of Aang's responsibilities and him splitting his time at home and out working, and it's typically a battle for Aang to have Toph open up to him, but over the years they've been able to figure out a pretty good way to communicate with one another and talk through these issues.

Aang loves to cook, and Toph loves to eat! But whenever she has a hankering for meat, they agree to go out to eat. Sometimes, Aang will cook the main dish and Toph orders a side of meat from some nearby restaurant lmao. That, or Sokka's in town and he cooks the meat while Aang cooks the veggies haha!

So I was just drawing some Zutara and since I've been obsessed with Phantom of the Opera since I saw it on Saturday, I had the idea of a Christine/Raoul crossover (specifically 'All I Ask of You'). Then I got to thinking 'who would be their Phantom? Probably not Aang. Jet?

I feel like most people would instantly dub Zuko as the Phantom because of his scar. And while he might fit the role pre-redemption arc, the character of the Phantom seems to align a bit more to Ozai (although that's not quite right either)

Someone please help me with this headcannon, I seem to be stuck

thought I would post this here too...since both zuko and katara love the beach hehe. zuko is a little shy cause he’s not quite in his element and only has memories of when his family was all there together. but with a little coaxing, katara makes him join her :)

I’d also like to think that while they were there, zuko would give katara a seashell or some other kind of memento and she would love it.

Zutara, swap

the first time katara and zuko were separated from each other for an extended period of time, katara gave him her mother’s necklace and he gave her his engraved pearl dagger. he wore her necklace around his wrist, hidden beneath the sleeves of his robes every day as he attended meetings and filled out paperwork. and katara kept his dagger in the waistband of her underskirts, the cool metal pressed against her warm skin as she trudged through hills of snow.

at nights, zuko traces the smooth carvings with the pad of his thumb, methodically running over the lines as he wonders what she’s doing. meanwhile, katara sits on some thick furs in gran gran’s hut listening to her father and sokka banter in terrible puns as she rhythmically opens and closes the sheath to his dagger. she laughs and laughs as sokka tells a particularly awful joke, but her family doesn’t know that the tears that spring to her eyes are partly from mirth but mostly from her longing for zuko to be there laughing with her (it was just the kind of corny joke that he would have loved, after all.)

and three months later—when hakoda’s boat finally docks in the fire nation bay, when she’s flung herself at his awaiting arms, when their cheeks hurt from grinning so hard—the dagger and the necklace are no longer just his or hers, but theirs.
