The difference between these monologues is obvious imo
Mike's monologue to Will:
Shot like a love monologue
Mike starts talking on his own because he wants to save Will
Will is flooded by light, personal close up with emotions of love behind his eyes even when he can't respond
It feels like Mike and Will are the only two in the room even if other people are there
The moment is delicate so it has no music and distractions
Will and Mike are looking at each other in the eyes
They don't lose anybody of the party in season 2 and they win against the bad guy
Simple and well written without clichés
Mike's monologue to El:
Shot like a tragic moment, harsh ugly light, El is literally in a red light and being suffocated
Prompted by Will after a lie he told Mike that Mike believed
Will is framed purposefully behind Mike in the most important parts of the monologue
There are shots of Will and Jonathan in the middle of the monologue making it feel like Mike and El are not alone at all
Full of distractions and with a score called "the Heart" ... From Will's speech and feelings... And we are in the middle of the action with people dying feeling the anxiety from the fear
Even if it gave a bit of strength to El it's not enough to win, they lose Max in the end
When El revives Max they put in the words "there's more to life than stupid boys" right after the love monologue from Mike
It feels impersonal, they don't look at each other face to face really
Full of old ugly romantic clichés instead of being good quality writing that they did with other couples like they didn't really care for it to be good
Finn literally improvised some lines and made it more ugly than the script that was already ugly and they decided it was okay to show to people
No romantic flashbacks of Mike and El, just a platonic one even if they do have romantic scenes that could have conveyed the feelings of love to the fans... They decided to not use them
??????????? This is supposed to be romantic???? To make us feel the romantic feelings between them and make us like this ship ??? I just can't believe this sorry lmao it completely goes against everything I know about cinematography and I do not believe the Duffers suddenly lost their minds

Queer kids deserve to become queer adults. To grow up supported. To go through adolescence finding themselves, instead of going through their 20s grieving the years they weren’t safe and had to pretend to be someone else. To be safely queer before financial independence. Wanting queer youngsters to not have a lifetime of conditioning and trauma to unpack isn’t child abuse, it is literally the opposite. Queer kids deserve to be safe.

max mayfield using comic book characters’ drawings to explain how some people find different people attractive.
max mayfield doing her best to explain even things like aro/ace and transgender to el, even if she herself doesn’t quite understand them.
max mayfield gently and carefully bringing up bisexuality and explaining it in an unbiased way until el stops her by saying, “you… are bi?” and max just starts to cry a little because she’s never really told anyone that before.
max mayfield patiently letting el ask questions until finally her question is two simple words: “and mike?” and max goes still.
max mayfield helping el understand that someone’s sexuality is theirs to discover and not ours to speculate over. that who they are or love or don’t love is not ours to decide, ever.
max mayfield watching tensely as el quietly takes all of this in. “will,” she begins, and max’s blood runs cold. “he is like you?” it is a question. max does not know the answer for sure, but she shakes her head. max starts to say, “he likes boys — he is like you,” but el shakes her head. “i do not know,” she says, and max freezes once again. “mike, he is different,” el says, carefully. “i love him, but it is…” she hesitates, thinking hard. “it is like the love in the movies. not like the love in the world.”
max mayfield sitting back a little to take this all in. finally, max mayfield asking the question she is burning to ask. “how do you know?”
and el hopper smiling that peaceful, small smile of hers and replying, “because mike is happier with will, and i know this, because i am happier that he is happy than i would be if he were with me.” max mayfield’s heart swelling out of her chest as el takes her hand. “and you have told me this is okay.”
max mayfield throwing her arms around the beautiful girl in front of her and holding her so tightly as tears stream down both of their faces.
max mayfield knew el hopper would understand.

steve wasn't trying to humiliate anyone.
"come on, harrington. bet ya 5 bucks, whatcha say?"
but's it's eddie's fault for forgetting how competitve he could get.
smirking, steve leaned on his hand, nonplussed, "you could just give me the money, save us both from wasting time."
the kids around them "Oooooohed" and snickered. the confident, smarmy smile never faltered on eddie's face.
"well damn, tell me how you really feel. alright. ten bucks."
steve's eyes brows shot up in surprise, "are you that eager to lose your hard earned cash, munson? don't want your uncle to come at me for exploitation."
"put up or shut up, big boy," eddie answered, slapping a ten dollar bill on the table.
letting out an exaggerated sigh, steve pulled out his wallet and placed his own tenner next to eddie's, "it's your funeral, dude."
robin gleefully put her own hands over eddie and steve's as they got into position, elbows on the table, hands clasped.
they stared each other down, waiting for robin to release them. eddie's mouth opened in realization the moment robin stepped away, "oh shit, i forgot."
steve blinked, "wha--" and found lips over his own in a soft, tender kiss.
SLAM!
there was yelling and insults thrown around, cackling from various people. all steve could focus on was his own arm, flat on the table, his mouth still tingling from the phantom pressure.
he looked up and saw eddie fanning himself with both bills like some sort of victorian noble, his eyelashes fluttering.
he winked, "thanks for lunch, stevie." but steve couldn't hear him. his eyes targeted the flush of eddie's cheeks, how the redness trailed down his neck and up his ears.
slowly, taking in every twitch and movement from the man across from him, steve leaned forward until his mouth was right up against that crimson ear and whispered, "if you wanted to slam me down, all you had to do was ask."
he stood up and walked away, fist bumping robin on his way to the kitchen while the kids asked eddie why he was coughing so loudly all of the sudden.
no one could call steve harrington a sore loser.

One day, seemingly out of the blue, Max starts calling Steve "Skippy".
No one knows why, no one knows where it comes from. And no matter how many times they all ask her to elaborate, she never does. She never tells them why.
They look to Steve for clarification, but even Steve is confused where it comes from.
Until one day she calls him "Skippy", then pointedly looks between him and Eddie, that mischievous quirk of her lips growing and one eyebrow arching slyly. It clicks then, for Steve, and he sinks back into the couch, blushing and grumbling under his breath about not having any privacy with these kids, jesus christ.
Because.
Max got the nickname from that one night a few weeks ago when she hadn't been able to sleep, so she'd wrapped herself in her blanket and slipped out of her front door to sit on the porch. She found that breathing in the shock of the cool night air helped ground her. Helped give her something else to focus on.
So that night she'd snuck outside, quietly so she didn't wake her mother. The Munson trailer was just a hop, skip, and jump away, and from her perch on her front steps she had the perfect view of it. And of the maroon Beemer parked right out front (as it so often was these days).
And of Eddie and Steve where they stood just outside the door. Where Steve's hands cradled Eddie's face, and Eddie's arms embraced his waist.
Where they were kissing.
It hadn't lasted long, just a short, sweet little thing. But when they two of them broke apart, they'd shared these shy looks, matching smiles curling their mouths. And, though it was too dark for Max to see, matches blushes painting their cheeks too.
They'd shared a bit more conversation that Max couldn't hear either, then one more fleeting kiss before Steve started to back away. He laughed as Eddie stepped forward, following him, and he'd put his hand between them, pressed it against Eddie's chest to stop him. Steve shook his head, and said something else that made Eddie pout, but reluctantly take his own step backwards.
Steve paused at the top of the stairs, watching Eddie retreat back to his front door. Eddie had blindly felt for the knob behind him, so he didn't have to look away from Steve, and when he found it and pushed the door open, he'd slowly slipped back inside. He paused in the archway, hanging onto the door, and had said something else (another goodbye, Max thought), and he'd waved one last time before the door finally closed.
Steve stayed put through it all, watching with stars and hearts alike in his eyes (not that Max could see those either, but if she knew Steve, and she did, they were definitely there). After the door shut, he lingered still, until he finally turned away.
He'd hopped down the stairs, and then, to Max's shock and absolute delight, god damn skipped the entire way to his car.
She'd had to stifle her laughter into her hand so as to not draw his attention.
Thus, "Skippy" was born.
But, after the initial surprise at finding out that Max had been (unintentionally) lurking in the shadows, Steve found that he didn't really mind the silly little nickname. In fact, he kind of loved it.
Because that night had been the night of Steve and Eddie's first kiss. That night had been the start.
A really good start.
And Steve kind of loved the reminder of that.
